This paper reports on computational results of continuum spectra of atomic lithium in white-dwarf-strength magnetic fields. The adiabatic-basis-expansion method with R -matrix propagation has been used to study photoionization of magnetized alkali metal atoms. The R -matrix propagation technique and the two-dimensional matching scheme were utilized to obtain wavefunctions of the continuum states. Cross-sections of photoionization are calculated for lithium atoms in magnetic fields. Continuum spectra for its various bound-free transitions in magnetic white dwarf stars are presented as a function of field strengths ranging from 11.75 to 117.50 MG. Comparison is made between continuum spectra of diamagnetic hydrogen and lithium atoms. The comparison shows good agreement or remarkable difference for final continuum states with different symmetries in the photoionization processes concerned. A detailed analysis has been performed to understand the obtained results. The good agreement displayed manifests the reliability of the extended adiabatic-basis-expansion method. This method is suited to produce a large number of photoionization cross-section data for alkali metal atoms in a strong magnetic field, and therefore can serve as a tool to simulate continuum spectra observed in the atmospheres of magnetic white dwarfs with alkali metal atoms. We extended the two-dimensional B-spline approach recently developed to investigate the influence of a strong electric field on atomic structures and spectra for hydrogen atoms in magnetic fields of white dwarfs. Spectral lines for hydrogen in parallel magnetic and electric fields have been calculated. Wavelengths and oscillator strengths are presented for 14 Balmer α transitions as a function of magnetic and electric fields. The magnetic and electric field strengths involved span a scope, respectively, from around 23.5 to 2350 MG, and from 0 to 108 V/m. Our calculations show that the shift of Balmer-series spectral lines induced by a strong electric field reduces as the magnetic field strength increases. The obtained energy levels, wavelengths, and oscillator strengths are compared to available results in the literature, and excellent agreement was discovered. The spectral data reported in this paper can be applied to interpret the shifts of spectral lines of hydrogen in magnetic white dwarfs due to the presence of electric fields, and to predict additional spectral lines dipole-forbidden in a pure magnetic field. The two-dimensional B-spline approach recently developed has been applied to calculations of absorption spectra from the n  = 3 manifold states of Li atoms in magnetic fields of white dwarfs. A total of 28 magnetized atomic states of five symmetries, 20±, 2(− 1)±, and 2(− 2)+, for this atomic system are involved in the current calculations. Wavelengths and oscillator strengths are presented for 60 transitions as a function of magnetic fields ranging from 2.35 to 2350 MG, typical of magnetic white dwarfs. Zeeman spectral lines of all these transitions lie in the region of ultraviolet, visible light, and infrared except for the six transitions, in which energy levels of the initial and final states are inversed at some magnetic field strength. Our results in the field-free case are compared to available data in the literature. Excellent agreement is observed between our spectral data and those from the NIST data base as well as the other theoretical calculations in the field-free case. In this work, the evolution of the InGaN layer growth on the ridge shaped GaN was studied. A mass transport model was presented to simulate the epitaxy process of the InGaN layer. The model consisted of two consecutive components, gas-phase diffusion process and surface diffusion process. The mean lifetime of adatoms on epitaxial surface was associated with their reaction rate in this model. An InGaN layer on ridge shaped GaN, including (0002) and [formula] facets, was grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition to confirm the mass transport model. Gradient indium content distribution and inhomogeneous thickness of the InGaN layer were observed. Simulation of the InGaN layer growth process was performed by finite difference method with the mass transport model. By analyzing the results from calculations and experiments, the origins of the InGaN layer characteristics were attributed to the two diffusion components in the growth process. Surface diffusion resulted in the inhomogeneous thickness and gas-phase diffusion chiefly led to the gradient indium content. In addition, the adatoms reaction rate on epitaxial surface determined their mean lifetime as speculated by the analysis. OBJECTIVE: To explore the protective effect of liraglutide on renal damage in rats with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) through the protein kinase B-mammalian target of rapamycin (Akt-mTOR) pathway. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 45 specific pathogen-free male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into healthy group (no diabetes, n=15), diabetes group (diabetes, n=15), and liraglutide group (diabetes + liraglutide intervention, n=15). The differences in the biochemical indexes, lesion degree, glomerular Nephrin expression level, and mRNA and protein expressions of Akt-mTOR in renal tissues were detected in three groups via hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and quantitative Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR), respectively. RESULTS: The albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) and levels of serum creatinine (Scr), urine microalbumin (UmAlb), fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and total cholesterol (TC) in renal tissues were the lowest in healthy group and the highest in diabetes group, while they significantly declined in liraglutide group compared with those in diabetes group. Also, there were statistically significant differences (p<0.05). The level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in renal tissues was the highest in healthy group and the lowest in diabetes group, while it was significantly increased in liraglutide group compared with that in diabetes group. Also, there were statistically significant differences (p<0.05). In healthy group, the mesangial structure and renal tubules were normal, the tubular basement membrane was smooth and intact, and there were no interstitial widening and inflammatory cell infiltration. Compared with diabetes group, the mesangial cell proliferation and vacuolar degeneration were alleviated, while the tubular dilatation or atrophy, fibrous tissues, and inflammatory cells were reduced in liraglutide group. Moreover, the results of immunohistochemical staining revealed that the glomerular Nephrin protein was arranged uniformly and showed the blue-black particles in healthy group. The glomerular Nephrin protein expressed was significantly decreased and arranged disorderly in diabetes group compared with that in healthy group, while it was increased in liraglutide group compared with that in diabetes group (p<0.05). The protein expression of Akt-mTOR in renal tissues was the lowest in healthy group and the highest in diabetes group, while it markedly declined in liraglutide group compared with that in diabetes group, displaying statistically significant differences (p<0.05). Similarly, the mRNA expression of Akt-mTOR in renal tissues was the lowest in healthy group and the highest in diabetes group, while it markedly declined in liraglutide group compared with that in diabetes group, displaying also statistically significant differences (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Liraglutide can significantly reduce the blood glucose and improve the renal function in rats by suppressing the protein expression of AKT-mTOR, thereby exerting a protective effect on renal damage in rats with DKD. The finite-basis-size method previously developed has been extended to calculate discrete spectral lines of H atoms in magnetic fields with field strengths ranging from 2.35 to 2350 MG, typical of magnetic white dwarf stars. Wavelengths and oscillator strengths for electric dipole transitions are presented for the spectral lines of Lyman and Balmer series. The current calculations involve energy levels for 30 electronic states with five symmetries 0±, (−1)±, and (−2)+. The obtained wavelengths and oscillator strengths are compared with available theoretical data in the literature, and excellent agreement has been found. OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy of melatonin on acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning (AOPP). PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this randomized control trial, a total of 59 AOPP patients with subsequent delirium were randomly divided into two groups, the melatonin group (n=29) and the placebo-controlled group (n=30). Patients in the melatonin group (n=29) underwent oral administration of melatonin in addition to the symptomatic treatment, while those in the placebo-controlled group took a placebo in addition to the symptomatic treatment. Before and 12 weeks after treatment, adverse events of participants in both groups were classified according to their scores in the assessment of the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS), Clinical Global Impression-Severity of Illness (CGI-SI) scale, and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS). RESULTS: The excellence rates of patients in the melatonin group and the placebo-controlled group were 82.75% and 30.00%, respectively (χ2 = 17.054, p < 0 .01). Within the framework of the method of the complex-coordinate rotation, a computational scheme has been developed to investigate influence of plasma environments on photoionization for atoms and ionized atoms. The Debye screening potential is used to describe effects of the plasma environments. Photoionization cross sections are reported for hydrogen and hydrogen-like helium in the ground states and compared with the available data. Investigation shows that near the ionization thresholds, photoionization is sensitive to the plasma screening. The strong screening remarkably alters the photoionization cross sections near the ionization thresholds. It is concluded that a great error may arise if photoionization cross sections for isolated atoms or ions are employed for numerical simulations of astrophysical and laboratory plasmas. The paper presents a new method of time integration for structural dynamic responses. In comparison with well-known methods, it is advantageous in several aspects. It satisfies the governing equations in continuous intervals rather than at discrete time instants (collocation, SSpj) or in average form (weighted, GNpj). It approximates the structural response with user-controllable order of accuracy. It automatically controls the convergence and accuracy so that a correct answer can be assured via auto-adjusted stepping and expansion terms. As far as the accuracy of velocity and acceleration is concerned, the method is much better since rapid convergence can be obtained with ease. Like the explicit integration method, this approach does not demand solution of simultaneous equation sets, yet it can be used with a time increment much larger than that of the implicit methods. Hot phosphor acid (H3PO4) etching is presented to form a roughened surface with dodecagonal pyramids on laser lift-off N face GaN grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. A detailed analysis of time evolution of surface morphology is described as a function of etching temperature. The activation energy of the H3PO4 etching process is 1.25 eV, indicating the process is reaction-limited scheme. And it is found that the oblique angle between the facets and the base plane increases as the temperature increases. Thermodynamics and kinetics related factors of the formation mechanism of the dodecagonal pyramid are also discussed. The light output power of a vertical injection light-emitting-diode (LED) with proper roughened surface shows about 2.5 fold increase compared with that of LED without roughened surface. A kind of phosphor-free GaN based white light-emitting diode was fabricated with a strain adjusting InGaN interlayer. The origin of the strain adjusted white luminescent properties was studied with cathodoluminescence, asymmetrically reciprocal space mapping with high resolution x-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. The yellow and blue components of the electroluminescence spectrum were attributed to the high indium core and the adjacent indium depleted region in the inverted pyramidal pits on the device surface, respectively. We report on the feasible fabrication of microfluidic devices for noncontact particle trapping. A half-wavelength resonator was constructed using standard soft lithography to generate ultrasonic standing waves through a miniature piezoelectric transducer. Microparticles (400 nm to 10 μm in diameter) flowing through polydimethylsiloxane microchannels were efficiently trapped to levitate in the middle depth of a resonance cavity. Polycrystalline Fe3O4/amorphous Si heterostructure was prepared by facing-target sputtering and its microstructure and electrical transport properties were studied. The polycrystalline Fe3O4 layer was grown in column structure. The electrical transport mechanism across the disordered interface between polycrystalline Fe3O4 and amorphous Si layers is tunneling above the Verwey temperature [Nature (London) 144, 327 (1939)] of 120 K. Nonlinear I-V characteristics of the Schottky diode reveal thermionic emission/diffusion mechanism below the Verwey temperature, and Schottky barrier height is 0.27 eV, calculated by a standard theory of thermionic emission/diffusion. Based on silicon on insulator (SOI) technology, a novel high temperature pressure sensor with high frequency response is designed and fabricated, in which a buried silicon dioxide layer in the silicon material is developed by the separation by implantation of oxygen (SIMOX) technology. This layer can isolate leak currents between the top silicon layer for the detecting circuit and body silicon at a temperature of about 200 °C. In addition, the technology of silicon and glass bonding is used to create a package of the sensor without internal strain. A structural model and test data from the sensor are presented. The experimental results showed that this kind of sensor possesses good static performance in a high temperature environment and high frequency dynamic characteristics, which may satisfy the pressure measurement demands of the oil industry, aviation and space, and so on. Objective: To explore the related factors of negative conversion time (NCT) of nucleic acid in children with COVID-19. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted. A total of 225 children who were diagnosed with COVID-19 and admitted to Changxing Branch of Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from April 3 rd to May 31 st 2022 were enrolled in the study. The infection age, gender, viral load, basic disease, clinical symptoms and information of accompanying caregivers were retrospectively analyzed. According to age, the children were divided into<3 years of age group and 3-<18 years of age group. According to the viral nucleic acid test results, the children were divided into positive accompanying caregiver group and negative accompanying caregiver group. Comparisons between groups were performed using Mann-Whitney U test or Chi-square test. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the related factors of NCT of nucleic acid in children with COVID-19. Results: Among the 225 patients (120 boys and 105 girls) of age 2.8 (1.3, 6.2) years, 119 children <3 years and 106 children 3-<18 years of age, 19 cases were diagnosed with moderate COVID-19, and the other 206 cases were diagnosed with mild COVID-19. There were 141 patients in the positive accompanying caregiver group and 84 patients in the negative accompanying caregiver group.Patients 3-<18 years of age had a shorter NCT (5 (3, 7) vs. 7 (4, 9) d, Z =-4.17, P <0.001) compared with patients <3 years of age. Patients in the negative accompanying caregiver group had a shorter NCT (5 (3, 7) vs. 6 (4, 9) d, Z =-2.89, P =0.004) compared with patients in the positive accompanying caregiver group. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that anorexia was associated with NCT of nucleic acid ( OR =3.74, 95%CI 1.69-8.31, P =0.001). Conclusion: Accompanying caregiver with positive nucleic acid test may prolong NCT of nucleic acid, and decreased appetite may be associated with prolonged NCT of nucleic acid in children with COVID-19.

Background and Purpose: Endovascular recanalization has been attempted in patients with symptomatic chronic ICA occlusion, however, the heterogeneity of recanalization outcomes and the perioperative complications present challenges for the clinical application. Our aim was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of endovascular recanalization for symptomatic chronic ICA occlusion and identify potential predictors for successful recanalization., Materials and Methods: This study included 47 consecutive patients with symptomatic chronic ICA occlusion who underwent endovascular recanalization at our institution. Patients' clinical information, radiologic characteristics, procedural results, and outcomes were recorded. Factors related to technical success were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analyses., Results: The technical success rate was 74.5% (35/47); 12.8% of patients (6/47) experienced intraoperative complications, but none had permanent neurologic deficits. Three months after recanalization, 21 of the 29 recanalized patients (72.4%) and 3 of the 10 failed patients (30.0%) demonstrated improved mRS scores. Restenosis or re-occlusion occurred in 12.9% of patients (4/31) with successful recanalization. Multivariate analysis showed that tapered or blunt stump ( P  = .016), distal ICA occlusion segment (below the cavernous segment versus at or above the ophthalmic segment, P  = .003; at the cavernous or clinoid segment versus at or above the ophthalmic segment, P  = .027), and radiologic occlusion to recanalization of ≤3 months ( P  = .044) were significantly associated with successful recanalization. Patients were assigned points according to the coefficients of the prediction model, and the technical success rates were 0%, 46.2%, 90.5%, and 100% in patients with 1, 2, 3, and 4 points, respectively., Conclusions: Endovascular recanalization is a safe and effective treatment for symptomatic chronic ICA occlusion in selected patients. Objectives: To explore the relationship between total bilirubin (TBil) and stroke risk in older patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS)., Methods: A total of 1,007 patients with OSAS without stroke history aged ≥ 60 years and with complete serum TBil records were enrolled in this study. The median follow-up was 42 months. Participants were divided into four groups based on the quartile of the baseline serum TBil concentration. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards analysis and restricted cubic spline (RCS) were used to investigate the association of TBil with the incidence of new-onset stroke., Results: The PRIMARY part: the third quantile TBil level group had the lowest prevalence of stroke among the four groups. The RCS functions depicted a J-type curve relationship between TBil (3.3-33.3 µmol/L) and stroke (nonlinear P < 0.05). When the TBil level was in the range of 3.3 to 11.5 µmol/L, the possible protective influence of bilirubin against stroke in patients with OSAS enhanced with an increasing TBil level. However, when the TBil level exceeded 11.5 µmol/L and gradually increased, the effect of TBil on stroke risk became more and more pronounced. The SECONDARY part: for every 1 µmol/L increase in TBil levels in the range of 11.5 to 33.3 µmol/L, the risk of stroke in patients with OSAS increased by 16.2% (P < 0.001). In addition, there was a higher risk in women with OSAS (hazard ratio (HR)=1.292, 95% confidence interval (95%CI): 1.093-1.528; P = 0.003). Moreover, an increased TBil level alone was significantly associated with stroke in subjects aged < 75 years (HR: 1.190, 95%CI: 1.069-1.324), patients with mild-to-moderate OSAS (HR: 1.215, 95%CI: 1.083-1.364), and individuals without atrial fibrillation (AF) (HR: 1.179, 95%CI: 1.083-1.285) within a TBil level in the range of 11.5 to 33.3 µmol/L., Conclusions: Both lower and higher bilirubin levels may increase the risk of stroke in older persons with OSAS, and there was a J-type dose-response relationship. Background and Purpose: The association between infarct location and hemorrhagic transformation of acute ischemic stroke after mechanical thrombectomy is not understood. We aimed to evaluate the association between CTP-based ischemic core variables at admission and hemorrhagic transformation after a successful thrombectomy., Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent endovascular thrombectomy for acute anterior circulation large-vessel occlusion between October 2019 and June 2021. We enrolled 146 patients with visible ischemic core on pretreatment CTP who had successful reperfusion. The ischemic core infarct territories were classified into the cortical and subcortical areas and then qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by CTP. Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were performed to determine the association between ischemic core variables and hemorrhagic transformation., Results: Of the 146 patients analyzed, 72 (49.3%) had hemorrhagic transformation and 23 (15.8%) had symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage. Multivariate analysis showed that subcortical infarcts were independently associated with hemorrhagic transformation (OR, 8.06; 95% CI, 2.31-28.10; P = .001) and subcortical infarct volume was independently linked to symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (OR, 1.05; 95% CI, 1.01-1.09; P = .039). The receiver operating characteristic curve indicated that subcortical infarcts can predict hemorrhagic transformation accurately (area under the curve = 0.755; 95% CI, 0.68-0.82; P  < .001) and subcortical infarct volume can predict symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (area under the curve = 0.694; 95% CI, 0.61-0.77; P = .002)., Conclusions: Subcortical infarcts seen on CTP at admission are associated with hemorrhagic transformation in patients after successful thrombectomy, and subcortical infarct volume may influence the risk of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage., (© 2023 by American Journal of Neuroradiology.)

As a common soil-borne nematode, hookworm is mainly parasitized in the intestine, and the clinical manifestations of hookworm infections mainly include gastrointestinal symptoms and iron-deficiency anemia. In addition, hookworm may be also parasitized in other organs in addition to gastrointestinal system, resulting in development of disorders in other systems. Proteinuria caused by hookworm infections is rare and easy to be misdiagnosed in clinical practices. Hereby, the diagnosis and treatment of a case of proteinuria associated with hookworm infections was reported, in order to increase the understanding of hookworm infection-associated proteinuria among clinicians.

Currently, CTA is the imaging technique most frequently used to evaluate acute ischemic stroke, and patients with intracranial large-vessel occlusion usually undergo endovascular treatment. This single-center, prospective, cohort study showed that consecutive, multidose use of contrast during CTA and DSA does not increase the incidence of acute kidney injury in patients with acute ischemic stroke, though acute kidney injury tended to have a higher incidence in the contrast multiexposure group ( P = .172)., (© 2019 by American Journal of Neuroradiology.)

As a common chemotherapy drug, methotrexate (MTX) has achieved remarkable clinical success. However, high inter-individual variability and unpredictable toxicity continue to challenge its use in clinical practices. Some studies suggest this variation is associated with a methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene polymorphism, but results remain unclear. In this meta-analysis, we include 14 studies that focus on MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms in pediatric patients with malignancy. We found significant associations of the MTHFR C677T polymorphism with hepatotoxicity (grade ⩾2; CC vs CT/TT: risk ratio (RR): 0.82, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.67-0.99; P=0.04), hematological toxicity (grade 3-4; CC vs CT/TT: RR: 0.65, 95% CI: 0.44-0.97; P=0.03) in a dominant genetic model and mucositis (grade ⩾3) in all models (CC vs CT/TT: RR: 0.18, 95% CI: 0.04-0.87; P=0.03; CC/CT vs TT: RR: 0.10, 95% CI: 0.03-0.32; P⩽0.0001; CC vs TT: RR: 0.10, 95% CI: 0.02-0.50; P=0.005). No significant association was found with the MTHFR A1298C polymorphism. For children with malignancy, genotyping of the MTHFR C677T polymorphism is expected to be a useful tool in reducing toxicity and improving outcome in personalized MTX therapy.

Background and Purpose: Segmental intracranial dolichoectasia of the distal ICA is a feature of PHACE syndrome or a sporadic phenomenon. We evaluated the relationship between intracranial dolichoectasia of the distal ICA and PHACE syndrome and illustrated the characteristic radiologic findings of the lesions., Materials and Methods: Intracranial dolichoectasia of the distal ICA was identified in 20 patients at our institution from 2005 to 2016 through a review of diagnostic cerebral angiography results. All radiologic images were reviewed to determine the vascular morphologic dispositions around the distal ICA, including dysplasia, mural calcification, vessel wall enhancement, lumen narrowing, and aneurysm formation. Medical records were reviewed to determine the symptoms of PHACE syndrome. Subsequently, the correlation between radiologic findings and PHACE syndrome was assessed., Results: In this cohort, which had a strong female predominance (male/female ratio= 2:18), intracranial dolichoectasia had a more ipsilateral vascular morphologic disposition. Mural calcification was detected more frequently in elderly patients, whereas vessel wall enhancement was detected more frequently in younger patients. Follow-up images showed a slow progression of the lesions. However, no significant differences in the vascular morphologic disposition and brain structural changes were observed between patients with ( n = 11) and without ( n = 9) PHACE syndrome., Conclusions: The striking elongation and tortuosity of the distal ICA generally appeared to be a type of congenital lesion occurring early in embryogenesis as either a sporadic phenomenon or an arterial change associated with PHACE syndrome.
