Abstract

The finite-basis-size method previously developed has been extended to calculate discrete spectral lines of H atoms in magnetic fields with field strengths ranging from 2.35 to 2350 MG, typical of magnetic white dwarf stars. Wavelengths and oscillator strengths for electric dipole transitions are presented for the spectral lines of Lyman and Balmer series. The current calculations involve energy levels for 30 electronic states with five symmetries 0±, (−1)±, and (−2)+. The obtained wavelengths and oscillator strengths are compared with available theoretical data in the literature, and excellent agreement has been found. The current atomic data would be applicable to analysing discrete atomic spectra of magnetic white dwarfs with hydrogen-dominated atmospheres. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
