Corporate social performance (CSP) and corporate financial performance (CFP) have been studied widely in the last fifteen years. These major efforts in research and publication might have been expected to produce aligned results but is it not the case; this paper aims to study why there is no consensus among them. By using the bibliometric data obtained from Scopus, this paper looks at four bibliometric indicators (journals, authors, countries, areas) for published work. We look for papers between 1977 and 2018 and identify a total of 371. The findings reveal that there are at least five key journals publishing in CSP-CFP relationship. There is a lack of co-occurrence between authors, regarding areas, two distinct perspectives are detected: one based on sustainability and social responsibility and the other linked more closely to marketing, and both perspectives can be connected via stakeholder theory. It contributes using bibliometric approach, it shows a reason to align the results around the relationship between CSP-CFP and open the windows to create a theory. Finally, the findings of this paper provide insights to the researchers on the development of social responsibility. The disparity of results in this line enriches analysis but does not outcome in a single line of contribution to science, thus decreasing the potential for channelling studies into a single theory. This only seems possible if contributions can be focused on the nexus that unites them: stakeholder theory.

This work analyzes the role of governance of financial entities in the current crisis. Neoliberal economic policies, deregulation and liberalization have characterized financial globalization, giving rise to the financialization of the economy. This paper, using the analysis-synthesis method, shows that the corporate governance of entities has adapted to the new social environment under the influence of the interests of the investors. The results of this paper suggest the need to monitor the over-emphasis on the maximization of short-term shareholder value without relativizing the risk taken to achieve it, as such, the emphasis on short-term shareholder value is considered a crucial contributing factor to the present crisis.

Businesses in technical bankruptcy are part of the European context, many of them in such financial distress that they have lost all their equity and a very high percentage of them have even incurred negative equity. There is a very little literature analysing these companies; moreover, they are considered as out of the ordinary because they do not fit into conventional theories of business, and are removed from most samples. They are largely neglected. The research questions posed here are a step towards remedying this: “What are the scale and the economic impact of negative equity companies in terms of risk transference?”, “Does this problem differ from one European country to another?”, “Is it an effect of the crisis?”. Using the Bureau Van Dijk’s Amadeus database, we find that nearly 20% of companies have negative equity. Such companies handle more than one billion Euros, i.e. nearly 10% of European GDP. So the results suggest that negative equity companies have a high weight in Europe and, based on the country cluster studied, it seems that neither culture nor geographical area is determinant in explaining their distribution across countries. Nor is the crisis a determinant in explaining their existence, so the problem is not cyclical but structural. These findings have potentially important implications in encouraging European decision makers to factor such companies into their policies and to include them in economic models.

Más allá de las reformas de carácter institucional, la construcción del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES) en el ámbito pedagógico ha traído consigo dos cambios: el impulso en la utilización de metodologías activas de enseñanza y de sistemas de evaluación continua. Nuestro objetivo es contrastar si estas innovaciones se han reflejado en el rendimiento del alumnado, a partir de un concepto multidimensional del mismo, adaptado a la Sociedad del Aprendizaje, la cual recoge no sólo la perspectiva del profesorado sino también la del alumnado, e incluye tanto conocimiento de carácter técnico como otro tipo de conocimiento. A través de una muestra de 1,276 alumnos de la Universidad del País Vasco y mediante OLS se observa una mejora, que en el caso de las calificaciones conferidas por el profesorado es estadísticamente significativa. En cuanto a la percepción del alumnado, la mejora en la adquisición de competencias de tipo instrumental y sistémico es estadísticamente significativa, no así en las de tipo interpersonal.

The amount of firms that chose going to external financial markets, in order to obtain better credit facilities or to make more attractive investments that the ones available inside the national frontiers, is getting higher. The decision to internationalize firm’s financial area can be the result of an specific strategy that looks for the better use of the opportunities offered by the financial globalization process (which is having a vertiginous development lately). This process, on the one hand, is entailed to some factors that bring about a more efficient allowance of the financial resources, being this a driving force for the internationalization of the firm’s financial area. But, on the other hand, working in an international context can lead to some costs that reduce the financial efficiency. The purpose of this paper is to make a balance of this duality in Basque Country firms.

El objetivo de este trabajo es identificar y analizar -mediante el planteamiento de un modelo conceptual explicativo- los factores que determinan la relación entre la globalización financiera y las crisis financieras. La principal característica diferenciadora de estos desequilibrios es su imprevisibilidad, al ser las expectativas autorrealizables y los efectos de contagio de las crisis entre distintos países las causas más importantes de la misma. Ahora bien, para el análisis de la posible vinculación entre las crisis y el proceso de globalización financiera es necesario estudiar otros dos aspectos, por una parte, la situación previa al inicio del proceso de integración en los mercados financieros globales, respecto del nivel de desarrollo económico y financiero de las diferentes naciones, y, por otra, la forma en que se desarrollan en ellos los procesos de apertura conducentes a dicha integración.

Danka Multimedia is a cooperative society, which offers integral communication services due to the areas of Marketing and Formation by means of new technologies. Because of the sector in which its activity takes place, as well as its own business vocation, Danka Multimedia has shown from its beginnings a gradual growth. This growing is increasingly making progress, and, as a consequence of this feature, the firm has to clash with some problems. These conflicts caused by the growth, which affect to every form of business organization, are more important in the case of Danka Multimedia because of its corporate personality, its culture and values, and the sector in which Danka Multimedia develops its activity. The Danka Multimedia’s growing management is the central issue with what this case deals.
