Very heavy nuclei owe their stability against spontaneous fission to quantum shell effects, which depend on the local density of single-particle states. The height but also the width and the structure of the barrier in multi-dimensional deformation space determine the fission half-lives. Other effects come into play, such as the conservation of quantum numbers and superfluidity or stiffness of the system in the fission process. This is why odd nuclei have longer fission partial half-lives with respect to their even neighbours and also why multi-quasi-particle states, such as high-K states, are thought to be more stable against fission than the ground state. We will report here on two different fission studies carried out with the GABRIELA detector array at the focal plane of the recoil separator SHELS. The first study concerns the fission properties of 253Rf, the most neutron deficient Rf isotope known to date. The second study focusses on a new measurement of the fission hindrance of the known 8- isomer in 254No.

The article reveals the influence of protein type polymer (gelatin) on the degree of anthocyanin pigment isolation from honeysuckle and blackcurrant. The authors show that the intensity of pigment extraction depends on the releasing object significantly. If one adds 0.2% gelatin into the system containing anthocyanin pigment the degree of anthocyanin pigment extraction from honeysuckle decreases. When gelatin content in the system increases from 0.2% to 0.6%, the optical density of the anthocyanin pigment decreases from 1.150 to 0.750. On the contrary, the introduction of 0.2% gelatin into the system increases the optical density of the black currant anthocyanin pigment. An increase in the gelatin content in the system up to 0.6% contributes to the isolation of anthocyanin pigment. The authors assumed that different effect of gelatin on anthocyanin pigment isolation degree is due to such factors as qualitative composition of anthocyanidins and number of OH groups which are present in their molecules, pH of thesystem and the content of such a biologically active substance as ascorbic acid in aqueous solution of anthocyanin pigment. They determined the viscosity of anthocyanin pigment-gelatin system. They show that the system gelatin-anthocyanin pigment of black currant has the highest viscosity value when gelatin content is 0.2%. Viscosity of the system containing 0.2% gelatin and honeysuckle anthocyanin pigment is much lower and equals 10.2 mPa.s. The authors developed the recipes of marshmallow production using aqueous solutions of honeysuckle and black currant anthocyanin pigment. They determined organoleptic and physical and chemical parameters of marshmallow samples. They showed that addition of a 6% solution of honeysuckle and blackcurrant anthocyanin pigment at marshmallow production makes it possible to obtain a product with high organoleptic characteristics. With such a content of anthocyanin pigment, marshmallow acquired an intense pink color and a pleasant bitter-sweet taste of honeysuckle or sweet and sour black currant taste.

Natochin (2) Abstract: The blood serum osmolality and ion concentrations were studied in 144 children (healthy or having some diseases), and no deviations from the universally accepted normal values were found. Although the mean values were in the normal range, the diseases were associated with an increased variation of serum osmolality and ion concentrations, indicating an imbalance of the regulatory system. Normally, human urine is hyperosmolal and the urination depends on the excretion of osmotically active substances. This determines a physiological paradox: an increase in diuresis is accompanied by a concurrent increase in reabsorption of osmotically free water. The analysis of fission events following the implantation of evaporation residues produced in the fusion reaction of 50Ti and 209Bi at different bombarding energies has revealed 5 millisecond decays, which are attributed to the spontaneous fission of proton-evaporation channels. The average cross sections for proton evaporation are found to be ∼100 and 10 times smaller than the largest neutron-evaporation channel cross section at the same excitation energy. These results suggest that the proton evaporation channel, albeit weak, may represent a realistic alternative to synthesize new, more neutron rich super heavy nuclei. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An experimental study of 256Rf spontaneous fission following the fusion reaction of 50Ti+208Pb was performed using the velocity filter SHELS of the Flerov laboratory at JINR. The average number of neutrons of ν ‾ = 4.30 ± 0.17 and variance of σ ν 2 = 3.2 from the prompt neutron multiplicity distribution were obtained. The alpha decay branching ratio of b α = 0.003 − 0.003 + 0.005 and the half-life of T 1 / 2 = (6.7 ± 0.2) ms of the isotope were determined. For the first time, our neutron detector system allowed us to extend investigation of the prompt neutron multiplicity study to the superheavy element region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
