and purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of melatonin on sleep quality and cognitive function of individuals undergoing hemodialysis. In this randomized controlled clinical trial, 102 eligible individuals were assigned to two equal intervention and control groups. The intervention group received melatonin 3 mg tablets half an hour before going to bed for six weeks, while the control group was given a placebo with similar conditions. This study had 102 participants who were divided into intervention and control groups. The mean age of the participants was 58.30 (SD = 12.10). Among the participants, 54.90% were female. Moreover, 33.33% of the individuals received dialysis for four years or longer. After the intervention, the mean and standard deviation of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was 12.66 (SD = 3.09) in the intervention group and 18.86 (SD = 3.8) in the control group (P < 0.001). Moreover, the mean sleep quality index in the intervention group showed a statistically significant difference before and after the intervention (P < 0.001); the PSQI score declined from 20.21 to 12.66. Likewise, there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups after intervention in the mean Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) index (P = 0.002); it was 24.27 (SD = 3.42) in the intervention group and 22.15 (SD = 2.3) in the control group. The mean MoCA score in the intervention group showed a significant difference before and after the intervention (P < 0.001), increasing from 21.19 to 24.27. Aim: This study aimed to determine the effects of acupressure on the intestinal function of patients undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery. Background: Studies indicated that cardiovascular patients are prone to constipation. Acupressure is one of the therapeutic and palliative approaches that can be used by doctors, nurses, and even patients themselves. Methods: The present three-group randomized clinical trial study was conducted on 90 patients undergoing CABG surgery. In the intervention group, 48 hours after surgery the patients received acupressure points LI4 and ST25 twice a day (10 am and 6 pm) for three sequential days. In the sham group, the patients received acupressure at a 1.5 cm distance from the LI4-ST25 points, and the patients in the control group received only the usual care. This research used a demographic and medical information questionnaire, Rome IV scale, Bristol stool scale, symptom registration checklist, and daily excretion assessment checklist. The intestinal function indices were completed 24 hours after surgery (before intervention), 48, 72, 96, and 120 hours after surgery. Results: All three intervention, sham, and control groups were without defecation in 24 hours (before intervention) and 48 hours after surgery. There was a significant difference between the three intervention, sham, and control groups in the number of stools after 72 hours, 96 hours, and 120 hours after the intervention (p<0.001). Also, a significant difference was observed among the three groups in terms of stool consistency 96 hours after the start of the intervention (p=0.032) and 120 hours after the start of the intervention (p<0.001). Conclusion: The results showed that patients had a significant improvement in the number of bowel movements and stool consistency in the intervention group. Background and Objectives: High workload, insufficient resources, and many stressors in the workplace have led to the imposition of physical and psychological pressures on nurses, which exposes them to Death Anxiety (DA). This systematic review aimed to assess the DA and factors associated with its in nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods: An extensive search was conducted on Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, Iranmedex, and Scientific Information Database (SID) databases via keywords including "Death", "Death Anxiety", "Nurses", and "COVID-19", from December 2019 to November 10, 2021. Results: 818 nurses were enrolled in four papers. Nurses' mean age and work experiences were 31.21 (SD=5.43) and 7.60 (SD=6.73) years, respectively. The mean DA of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic was 7.30 (SD=2.23). Also, 31.05% of nurses had a high DA level during the COVID-19 pandemic. Age, sex, work experience, working hours per week, childbearing, several patients needing end-of-life care, direct participation in resuscitation operations, patient death, depression, mental health status, and life satisfaction were influential factors in DA nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Thus, nursing policymakers should pay special attention to these factors related to nurses' health maintenance and promotion programs to increase the quality of nursing care for COVID-19 patients. Purpose: Forensic nursing is a specialty in the nursing profession based on legal procedures. This study aimed to assess the effect of a forensic nursing virtual education course on knowledge and clinical decision-making among master's nursing students. Methods: In a quasi-experimental study with a pre- and post-test, 106 master's nursing students at Guilan (n=65) and Mazandaran (n=41) Universities of Medical Sciences, Iran were enrolled. Data were collected using census sampling from March to April 2021. Participants in the intervention group received a forensic nursing virtual education course in three 90-minute sessions for 2 days. Results: A total of 88 out of 106 master's nursing students were enrolled in this study. The mean post-education score for knowledge in the intervention group was significantly higher than in the control group (12.52 vs. 7.67, P<0.001). The mean post-education score for clinical decision-making in the intervention group was significantly higher than in the control group (16.96 vs. 13.64, P<0.001). Conclusion: The level of knowledge and clinical decision-making of master's nursing students regarding forensic evidence improved after the forensic nursing virtual education course in the intervention group compared to the control group. Nursing managers and policy-makers can develop appropriate strategies to improve the knowledge and clinical decision-making of nursing students by using forensic nursing education courses in the curricula of nursing programs, especially in postgraduate education as an elective or mandatory course. Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus infection /acquired immunodeficiency syndrome has grown to be one of the world's most momentous pandemics. The present study aimed to explore the effects of stigma on people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and recommend coping strategies to reduce this phenomenon. Materials and Methods: Using a narrative literature review, the related articles were searched, retrieved, and selected from the databases of Noor Specialized Magazines (Noormags), Elmnet, Scientific Information Database of Academic Center for Education, Culture, and Research (SID), IranMedex, and Magiran via the keywords of "Stigma, Social Stigma, Labeling, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, AIDS, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, and HIV" in Persian and in the databases of PubMed and Scopus in English. The same procedure was further performed in Google Scholar in both languages. The inclusion criteria were the full-text articles in Persian and English and the exclusion criteria were no access to the full-text articles, while review articles were removed. Results: Considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria and excluding the duplicate studies, 16 articles were recruited in total for review purposes. The effects of stigma on PLWHA consisted of individual and social consequences. As well, the most appropriate coping strategies to reduce stigma were acknowledged as "providing psychosocial support for infected people", "raising awareness in the public and medical staff", "cultivating spirituality and a close relationship with God", "developing and implementing counseling strategies", and "establishing specialty clinics for PLWHA". Conclusion: Given the study findings, it can be suggested that policy-makers and community healthcare managers pay much more attention to the individual and social consequences of HIV/AIDS and make further efforts to increase awareness in the public and medical staffs, strengthen spirituality in PLWHA, and set up specialty clinics for such individuals to cope with stigma. Depression can lead to increased medical costs, impaired individual and social functioning, nonadherence to therapeutic proceeding, and even suicide and ultimately affect quality of life. It is important to know the extent of its prevalence for successful planning in this regard. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of depression in the Iranian elderly. This systematic review and meta-analysis study was done through Medline via PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, ProQuest, SID, Embase, and Magiran with determined keywords. Screening was done on the basis of relevance to the purpose of the study, titles, abstracts, full text, and inclusion and exclusion criteria. The quality of the articles was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa standard scale. After primary and secondary screening, 30 articles were finally included in the study. According to the 30 articles reviewed, the prevalence of depression in the Iranian elderly was 52 percent based on the random-effects model (CI 95%: 46–58). According to the results of the present study, depression in the Iranian elderly was moderate to high. Therefore, more exact assessment in terms of depression screening in elderly people seems necessary. Coherent and systematic programs, including psychosocial empowerment counselling for the elderly and workshops for their families, are also needed. This descriptive correlational study was aimed at determining the relationship of hemodialysis shift with sleep quality and depression in 310 hemodialysis patients. Demographic and Clinical Questionnaires, the Pittsburgh sleep quality index, and Beck's Depression Inventory were used to ascertain the aforementioned relationship. Among the patients, 59.6% reported poor sleep quality and 44.8% reported experiencing depression. Results show that these conditions were significantly related to many factors. Although dialysis shift was not significantly related to sleep quality and depression, sleep quality was found significantly associated with age, female gender, illiteracy, unemployment, residence in rural areas, diabetes, addiction to sedatives, and phosphorus levels. A significant relationship was also found between depression and phosphorus levels. Logistic regression predicted age, gender, illiteracy, unemployment, residence in rural areas, and addiction to sedatives as factors for poor sleep quality. Objectives: Futile medical care is considered as the care or treatment that does not benefit the patient. Staff of intensive care units experience moral distress when they perceive the futility of care. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between perceptions of nurses regarding futile medical care and their caring behaviors toward patients in the final stages of life admitted to intensive care units. Method: This correlation, analytical study was conducted with 181 nursing staff of the intensive care units of health centers affiliated to Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, Mazandaran, Iran. The data collection tool included a three-part questionnaire containing demographic characteristics form, perception of futile care questionnaire, and caring behaviors inventory. To analyze the data, statistical tests and central indices of tendency and dispersion were investigated using SPSS, version 19. Pearson's correlation coefficient, partial correlation, t-test, and analysis of variance tests were performed to assess the relationship between the variables. Ethical considerations: The study was reviewed by the ethics committee of the Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences. Informed consent was obtained from participants. Results: Our findings illustrated that the majority of nurses (65.7%) had a moderate perception of futile care, and most of them (98.9%) had desirable caring behaviors in taking care of patients in the final stages of life. The nurses believed that psychosocial aspects of care were of utmost importance. There was a significant negative relationship between perception of futile care and caring behavior. Conclusion: Given the moderate perception of nurses concerning futile care, and its negative impact on caring behaviors toward patients, implementing suitable interventions for minimizing the frequency of futile care and its resulting tension seems to be mandatory. Background: Many patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) experience fatigue due to their disease process and its long period of treatment. Using nonpharmacological methods to help reduce their fatigue is a reasonable endeavor. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of Benson's relaxation technique on fatigue levels in patients after HSCT. Materials and Methods: Thirty-seven patients were randomly selected to the intervention (n = 19) and control group (n = 18). In the intervention group, the participants performed Benson's relaxation exercises for 20 min twice per day over a period of 15 days. The data collection tools used included a demographic and medical information form and the Brief Fatigue Inventory, completed by both groups on three different occasions (upon admission and days 8 and 14 after the HSCT). The data obtained were analyzed in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version-20 using statistical tests. Results: The results of the independent t-test showed no significant preintervention differences in fatigue levels between the two groups. On days 8 (t = 11.21, p < 0.001) and 14 after the transplant (t = 15.62, p < 0.001), a significant difference was observed in the mean level of fatigue between the two groups. Background: The number of patients with chronic renal failure is increasing in Iran. Quality of life is an important indicator that reveals the sense of well-being, positive understanding of their, and the effectiveness of health care in patients undergoing dialysis, which could be affected by duration of dialysis. Objectives: This study aimed at investigating the relationship between quality of life and duration of dialysis in hemodialysis patients. Methods: In this descriptive correlational study, 246 patients with chronic kidney failure were selected by Single-stage stratified cluster sampling. Hemodialysis patients were put into 2 groups with a duration of hemodialysis less than and more than 36 months andwere thencomparedwith each other. The quality of lifewasmeasuredusing the kidney disease quality of life shortform(KDQOLSF36). Data analysis was performed by the Pearson correlation coefficient, independent t-test, and ANOVA Results: The mean duration of hemodialysis patients was 34.03 months. There was no significant relationship between the quality of life in patients and duration of hemodialysis. Poor quality of life had a significant correlation with old age (P< 0.001), educational level (P < 0.001), job, and income (P < 0.001). Conclusions: The findings showed poor quality of life in patients on dialysis. The length of the disease and other accompanying diseases reduced the quality of life in dialysis patients as their age increased. Fatigue is one of the main complaints of patients undergoing allogeneic and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Since nonpharmacological interventions are cost-effective and causes fewer complications, this study aimed to review the studies performed on the effects of nonpharmacological interventions on fatigue in patients undergoing HSCT during September 2016. MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scientific Information Database, IranMedex, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Magiran, and IRANDOC databases were searched using Persian and English keywords. A total of 1217 articles were retrieved, 21 of which were used in this study. Exercise is known as an effective intervention in alleviating physical and mental problems of patients undergoing stem cell transplant. This review-based study showed that nonpharmacological methods such as exercise might be effective in decreasing fatigue in patients undergoing stem cell transplant. There is a multitude of studies on some of the complementary and alternative therapy methods, such as music therapy, yoga, relaxation, and therapeutic massage. These studies demonstrated the positive effects of the aforementioned therapies on reduction of fatigue in patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. All the investigated methods in this study were nonaggressive, safe, and cost-effective and could be used along with common treatments or even as an alternative for pharmacological treatments for the reduction, or elimination of fatigue in patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. Given the advantages of complementary and alternative medicine, conducting further studies on this issue is recommended to reduce fatigue in patients after stem cell transplantation. Ethical Climate is an important aspect in organizational climate and a positive ethical climate is required for supporting the nurses' professional actions. Therefore, it seems essential to do studies across the country in order to know about the hospitals climate. Hence, the aim of the present study was to survey the nurses' perception of the ethical climate of the educational hospitals in Sari. This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 151 randomly selected nurses in educational hospitals of Sari in 2016. A two-part questionnaire was used for data collection which the first part was related to demographic features and the second part was a standard ethical climate questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed in SPSS 19 software by using descriptive statistical tests, variance analysis and t-test. The participants' average age was 31.56 ± 5.63. There were 60 male among the participants, 6 associated nurses, and 124 bachelors of nursing as well as 21 MSc. in nursing. Also 65 nurses had 1-5, 45 individuals had 5-10 as well as 41 of them had more than 10 years' work experience. The relationship between perceived ethical climate of the nurses and participants' demographic features was not significant. Introduction: The staff who have safe work environment, do their best to make their work environment better and more efficient. These staff act more successful and most probably have high job involvement. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between ethical climate and job involvement among the nurses working in educational hospitals of Sari. Implementation method: This study is a descriptive-analytical one which was conducted on 151 nurses of educational hospitals of Sari in 2016. For data collection a three-part questionnaire was used, the first part of which was related to demographic features. The second part was a Kanungu standard job involvement questionnaire while the third part was related to the Olson's ethical climate questionnaire. Finally the collected data were analyzed by SPSS19 software using t-test statistical tests and variance analysis. Findings: The participants of this study were the nurses working in educational hospitals of Sari whose average age was 31.56 ± 5.63, 91 individuals were female and 96 of them were passed the ethics courses. The relationship between the gender and ethical climate was not significant while its relationship with job involvement was significant. Also the relationship of age and ethics course passing was not significant with ethical climate and job involvement. The ethical climate mean score was 93.72 ± 13.41 while job involvement's was 29.51 ± 6.35 and their relationship was significant. Conclusion: The results indicated that although the staff had a good perception of ethical climate but they had low job involvement and the relationship between ethical climate and job involvement was significant. Background and purpose: One of the main goals of nursing education is training appropriate and efficient nurses. The purpose of this study was to discover the perceptions of nursing students and their teachers about professional competency of academic staff. Materials and methods: In this qualitative content-analysis approach study, the data were collected through unstructured in-depth interviews [30 individual and 1 focusing (Focus Group) interviews]. The participants were chosen using purposeful sampling from Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, Iran, during July 2012 to June 2013. Formal or conventional qualitative content analysis was performed. Results: 11 categories and 4 themes were achieved. The themes included making the theoretical training efficient and useful (with 4 subthemes), gaining qualificative nursing science and skills (with 4 subthemes), making the clinical education efficient and effective for students (with 8 subthemes), and making the evaluation logical and objective (with 3 subthemes). Conclusion: This study found four basic themes of professional competency of academic staff and the indicators related to these features according to nursing students and their teachers' viewpoints. Background: Pain is a common phenomenon after surgery. Cardiac surgeries are no exception and patients generally experience acute pain after these surgeries. Inadequate pain management after cardiac surgery predisposes patients to many complications. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effects of listening to preferred music on pain intensity after open heart surgery. Materials and Methods: This study was a randomized clinical trial (RCT) conducted in open heart intensive care unit (ICU) of a university hospital in Sari, Iran. A total of 60 patients who were scheduled to undergo open heart surgery were randomly allocated in two groups. Patients in the intervention group (n = 30) listened to their preferred music by headphones for 30 minutes, whereas those in the control group (n = 30) did not listen to music. Using a Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), pain intensity was measured among the patients before the intervention, and immediately, 30 minutes and one hour after the intervention. Data was analyzed by Chi-square test, student's t-test and repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA). Findings: Mean pain intensity in the intervention group before, immediately after, 30 minutes and one hour after the intervention were 5.8, 3.1, 2.5 and 2.4, respectively. Corresponding numbers in the control group were 4.7, 4.7, 4.8 and 4.9, respectively. Repeated measures ANOVA showed music to significantly reduce pain intensity (p = 0.0001) Conclusions: Music can be effective as a non-pharmacological, inexpensive, non-invasive and side effect free method for pain management after open heart surgery. Background and purpose: The monitoring of the patients' hemodynamic status and vital signs is a routine practice in ICU and the use of a low-cost and soothing method to maintain stable physiological parameters is necessary. This study aimed at investigating the effect of music on the vital signs and SpO2 of patients after open heart surgery. Materials and methods: This study was a randomized clinical trial (RCT) conducted on 60 patients hospitalized in the open heart surgery ICU of Mazandaran Heart Center. Patients were randomly assigned into case and control groups. In the case group, the patients listened to the music, which they selected before, through headphones for 30 minutes, while headphones without playing any music were used for patients in the control group. Vital signs and SpO2 of the patients were assessed before the intervention, immediately, 30 and 60 minutes after the intervention. The data were analyzed using Chi-square; T -test and repeated measure statistical tests. Results: Findings showed that music led to a significant decrease in the rate of heart beat, systolic blood pressure, and mean arterial pressure and a significant increase in SpO2 rate (P<0.05) was also observed. But music had no significant effect on the respiratory rate and diastolic blood pressure (P>0.05). Background and purpose: Prevalence of over weight and obesity is increasing in the world. Those over weight are more susceptible to cardiovascular diseases than other individual's. Studies indicate that body fat distribution has a determining role in the identification of risk factors. Also, the relation between BMI, cardiac ischemic pains and exercise test condition in such patients, is in need further investigation. The aim of this study was to determine the relation between BMI with exercise tolerance test in patients with cardiac ischemic pains, who were referred to the Cardiac Center of Mazandaran Province, in Sari Township. Materials and methods: In this case control study considering the BMI in ischemic patients, 65 were selected as case and 65 persons as control using Tread mill and according to Bruce Protocol, results and tolerance test time was recorded. Independent T test was used for comparison of quantitative indexes mean, while x2 test using SPSS soft ware was used for comparison of the ratio of persons with the qualitative features. Results: Data indicated mean weight of 57.1 kg and height of 1.64m in the case group. Also, 58.5% had history of hyperlipidemia (Cholesterol higher than 200mg/dl) and 78.8% with history of blood sugar (higher than 120mg/dl (P<0.001). Even 63.6% had hypertension of 140/9o mm Hg. Our findings showed that BMI in the case and control groups were (26.95±3.94) and (25.95±3.49) respectively. Moreover, a significant relationship between high BMI with cardiac ischemic pains and exercise tolerance test (P<0.001) were demonstrated. Conclusion: Cardiac ischemic pains in individuals with high BMI is common. Purpose: Hemodialysis is the common kidney replacement therapy in Iran. Doing an adequate and effective dialysis can improve patients' quality of life and reduce kidney failure complications. Additionally, dialysis quality is an important factor in reducing mortality in patients with chronic kidney failure. This systematic review has investigated the adequacy of dialysis in studies done on hemodialysis patients of Iran. Materials and Methods: All articles related to the dialysis adequacy in hemodialysis patients in English and Farsi (contemporary Persian) were identified by searching the related keywords in various electronic databases. According to the inclusion criteria, 21 studies were identified. The results were analyzed using Stata software version 11. Results: A number of 6677 patients had been enrolled in 21 studies that were chosen for this systematic review. Based on the random effects model, the overall dialysis adequacy (KT/V) (K: clearance of urea, T: duration of dialysis, V: distribution of urea) more than 1.2 and its confidence interval were 36.3% and 26.4-46.2, respectively. Also, based on random effects model more than 65% urea reduction ratio in all studies was 28.8% and the confidence interval was 14.4-43.3. Conclusion: KT/V and urea reduction ratio were much less desirable in hemodialysis patients and the dialysis quality was also undesirable. It seems that inadequate dialysis prescription, use of inappropriate filters, low pump speed (blood flow speed), and the short duration and few times of dialysis are the major causes of this inadequacy. Background and purpose: Coma results from brain damage and patients in intensive care units (ICU) are often more at risk for sensory deprivation. This study compares the effects of familiar and unfamiliar voices on recovering the consciousness level in comatose patients. Materials and methods: This double blind clinical trial (patient and assessor) was performed in 45 traumatic comatose patients with Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) ⩽8 within the age range of 15-75 years, admitted to ICU training centers affiliated to Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences. The subjects were randomly allocated into three groups. Group A was stimulated with a familiar voice, group B's auditory stimulation was done by the researcher introduced as a nurse) and no intervention was done for group C (control group). The interventions were conducted twice a day for 1-5 minutes. The level of consciousness was measured using the GCS scale. To analyze the data descriptive and inferential statistics (Logrank Test) were used. Results: In the day before the intervention the mean levels of GCS in groups A, B, and C were 6.40, 5.66, and 5.53, respectively. Logrank test revealed significant differences between the groups in the time to reach CGS= 15 which happened sooner in group A (P<0.0001). Conclusion: Familiar voice could highly influence the auditory level of patients in ICU. Therefore, auditory stimulation programs are recommended for comatose patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Violence is a critical phenomenon in clinical settings, which negatively affects the nurses' quality of working life (QoWL). Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine occupational violence and its association with nurses' QoWL in intensive care units. Methods: This was a descriptive, analytical, correlational study, the participants of which were 220 nurses working in the intensive care units of Mazandaran educational-medical centers. The participants were selected by using the stratified random sampling method in 2019. Data collection instruments were three questionnaires, namely Dumont Occupational Violence, Walton QoWL, and Demographic Information. The data were analyzed using SPSS, version 24, and descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Overall, 63.2% of the participants rated their QoWL as average, and 68.3% of the nurses stated that they had experienced violent behaviors from their nursing colleagues. Also, people with higher incomes had significantly higher QoWL (P = 0.003). In general, there was a significant negative correlation between occupational violence and QoWL (P = 0.01, r = -0.173). Conclusions: By taking into account the various aspects of QoWL, nurse managers should adopt effective strategies to create favorable working conditions to improve the QoWL of nurses and reduce the incidence of violent behaviors. Background: One of the results of burn injuries is the appearance of scars and deformities in various organs of the body, which can cause many physical and psychological challenges to burn patients. Lack of proper communication between nurse and patient leads to inaccurate identification of psychological and social needs of these patients and thus affects the quality of care.Aim: This study aimed to investigate the effect of seeing the patient's pre-burn face photo on the quality of care and empathy of nurses with patients admitted to the burn intensive care unit.Methods: The present study is a quasi-experimental interventional study conducted on 26 Burn Intensive Care Unit (BICU) nurses who were selected by census sampling method in 2018. Data were collected through QUALPAC Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire, Lumonica Empathy Questionnaire and Demographic Questionnaire, which were completed by nurses before and after the intervention. Pre-burn photos of patients with facial burns were displayed at the nursing station for one month and the data were compared before and after the intervention. Descriptive statistics and paired t-test and independent t-test, Mann-Whitney and Pearson correlation tests were used to analyze the data.Findings: The results of present study showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the quality of nursing care (p = 0.001) and its psychological dimension (p < 0.001) before and after the intervention in the group of nurses. However, no significant relationship was found between nurses' empathy with patients before (p = 0.901) and after intervention (p = 0.001).Conclusion: Seeing the photo of the patient's pre-burn face and establishing a relationship between the nurse and the patient had an effect on the quality of nursing care and especially its psychological dimension. However, in order to generalize the results and implement this low-cost, convenient and low-complication intervention for all patients admitted to the intensive care unit, more studies are needed in this field. Background and purpose: Intense and prolonged exercises generate reactive oxygen species that leads to cell damage. It seems that using antioxidant supplements reduce exercise-induced oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of omega-3 supplements on oxidative stress in elite karate athletes. Materials and methods: Sixteen elite male karate athletes were randomly divided into two groups, receiving Omega-3 supplements (experimental) and placebo (control). The subjects consumed 1200 mg omega-3 (720 mg EPA and 480 mg DHA) and placebo daily for four weeks. Both groups participated in increased karate training programs (three days a week for a month). Blood samplings were performed pre and post-training period to analyze oxidative stress index (malondialdehyde), antioxidative index (superoxide dismutases), and lipid profile (cholesterol and triglycerides). The student's ttest was used to analyze the data. Results: Taking omega-3 led to a significant reduction in resting malondialdehyde levels in experimental group (t= 2.38, P= 0.045) but there was no significant change in resting malondialdehyde for the placebo group (t= 0.708, P= 0.506). Also, the resting malondialdehyde levels were not significantly different between the experimental and placebo groups (t=2, P=0.065,). Superoxide dismutases rate had no significant increase in experimental and the placebo groups (t= 0.272, P= 0.792, t=1.39, P= 0.186, respectively). There was also no significant difference between the two groups (t=1.39, P=0.186). After four weeks cholesterol concentration was significantly lower in the experimental group (t=2.97, P=0.018) while this reduction was not significant in the placebo group (t=0.694, P=0.514). Also, the difference between the two studied groups was not significant (t=1.44, P=0.172). Concentration of triglyceride significantly decreased in both groups (t=0.835, P=0.428, t=1.38, P=0.217, respectively). There was no significant difference between the two groups (t=1.04, P=0.315). Conclusion: Omega-3 supplements increased the serum levels of antioxidant biomarkers and reduced the resting levels of lipid profiles in exercise-trained men, but it was not enough for exerciseinduced attenuation in oxidative stress. Therefore, more research is needed to draw accurate conclusions regarding the effects of omega-3 and exercise on oxidant/antioxidant factors on excersise-trained people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study evaluated the occupational burnout (OB) and spiritual well-being (SWB) of emergency nurses as well as the associations between these variables., Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted in six hospitals and emergency medical centers affiliated with Ardebil University of Medical Sciences (Ardebil, Iran), in 2020. Data were collected via socio-demographic, Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS), and Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaires., Results: This study included 239 emergency department nurses. The mean age of the participants was 34.4±6.4 years. The mean of existential well-being and religious well-being was 40.3±8.7 and 41.0±9.2, respectively. The results indicated that moderate (P=0.007) and severe (P<0.001) personal accomplishment was a positive and significant predictor of the SWB in emergency department nurses., Conclusion: Proper planning and provision of suitable educational programs in the dimension of the SWB of nurses prevent the creation and continuation of OB and increase the self-efficacy and job satisfaction of emergency medical staff, resulting in better patient care., Competing Interests: None declared.
