Background: Occupational contact dermatitis (OCD) is a prevalent, often chronic disease that poses a risk for job loss and decreased quality of life. In Germany, a multi‐step prevention programme emphasising early detection and highly specialised multidisciplinary treatment has been implemented with great success. Objectives: To examine the effectiveness of a Danish‐adapted version of the German prevention effort on OCD severity, quality of life and occupational consequences at 3‐month follow‐up. Methods: Randomised, controlled trial. Participants were recruited after the first referral from General Practitioner to Dermatologist with suspected OCD. The intervention group (IG) received a Danish‐adapted, multidisciplinary intervention, while the control group (CG) navigated the Danish healthcare system without interference from the study. OCD severity, occupational consequences and quality of life were assessed at 3‐month follow‐up using self‐reported questionnaires. Results: A statistically significant decrease in the severity of eczema was found at 3‐month follow‐up in the IG compared to the CG. The IG were statistically significantly more likely to have seen a dermatologist at 3‐month follow‐up. Higher treatment level in the IG was indicated by the results but was not statistically significant. No significant difference was found in quality of life or occupational consequences. Objectives: Individuals with genital warts may be particularly susceptible to human papillomavirus since they have failed to clear the virus. Consequently, women with genital warts could be at increased risk of cervical dysplasia. In this cohort study we aimed to compare the incidence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or worse (CIN2+) in women with a diagnosis of genital warts with that of the general female population without genital warts.Methods: Using the Danish nationwide population-based health data registers, we identified women between 15 and 45 years and followed them for diagnoses of CIN2+ from 1995 to 2006. Genital wart diagnoses were recorded from birth, and Cox regression with attained age as underlying scale was used to estimate age-dependent HRs for the risk of CIN2+ with genital warts as a time-varying exposure.Results: Among 918 609 women without genital warts and 32 218 women with genital warts, 30 209 and 1533 women, respectively, had a subsequent diagnosis of CIN2+. A significantly higher risk of CIN2+ was found among women with genital warts relative to those without (HR, 2.43; 95% CI 2.30 to 2.56). Treatment-resistant genital warts posed a significantly higher risk of CIN2+ than did transient genital warts (HR, 1.20; 95% CI 1.01 to 1.43). The risks remained elevated more than 4 years after the genital wart diagnosis.Conclusion: Clinicians should ensure that women with genital warts are screened for cervical cancer after the genital wart diagnosis and that they continue to be screened on time. Dental eruption disorders occur frequently, affecting almost 20% of the population. They include canine impaction, with an incidence of 0.9-4.3% of patients. The aim of the study was to present the authors' experience in bringing impacted mandibular canines to the occlusal plane using fixed appliances. Two case reports of patients who presented for treatment at the Orthodontic Clinic of Medical University of Gdansk have been described. Two 11-years-old patients were orthodontically diagnosed. In both cases, impacted canines were revealed. Treatment plan included orthodontics and surgical treatment of tooth 43, so that it could be aligned into the arch. The treatment was performed with fixed straight wire appliance. The effect of treatment in both cases was good, with toot 43 its right positions. Treatment time lasted 3 and 2.5 year, respectively. Impacted mandibular canines are of rare occurrence, of which management poses therapeutic difficulties. Both aesthetics and occlusion determine the proper choice of treatment, so that the canine is brought back to the arch by using surgical and orthodontic extrusion. In order to minimize the risk of complications, early diagnosis is necessary as well as close interdisciplinary cooperation of an orthodontist and surgeon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The winter climate in northwestern Europe is commonly influenced by the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). Its intensity, expressed as an index (NAOi), has been suggested for use in assessing nutrient leaching from arable land to water and the effects of mitigation measures. We found significant (p < 0.05) positive linear relationships between NAOi and an air freezing–thawing index in central and southern Sweden for 2004 to 2016. This period covered winters with both extreme low and high NAOi. There were significant negative linear relationships between NAOi and a snow depth index. Management and nutrient leaching were studied simultaneously in two agricultural catchments (20.7 ha, code 11M; 788 ha, code M36) in southwestern Sweden. Catchments 11M (silty–clay soil) and M36 (sandy hills with a central, heavy clay plain) are both artificially drained. Total N and total P leaching increased significantly with winter (November–April) NAOi in both catchments. In contrast, leaching of dissolved reactive P (DRP) was not related to NAOi. The highest DRP concentrations were observed in connection with specific agricultural practices, whereas moderately elevated DRP concentrations were linked to snowmelt events. Concentrations of P in other forms (other P) were even more elevated (1.02 mg L−1) in 11M in winter 2014–2015, probably due to a large (32% of area) internal buffer (ley–fallow) in a central ravine being plowed down in autumn 2014. No general trend in P or N fertilization was found in catchment M36. Thus NAOi may be appropriate for use in trend analyses of nutrient load in the study region. Abstract Veterinary antiparasitic pharmaceuticals have been detected in surface waters and several of these pharmaceuticals act on the nervous system on the target organisms implying that neurological effects also might be of concern in non-target animals such as fish. We tested if exposure to antiparasitic pharmaceuticals affect swimming activity in 6 days old zebrafish larvae. The results revealed that most pharmaceuticals did not cause any effects in swimming activity. However, larvae exposed to 0.58 mg/L doramectin displayed reduced swimming activity even though they were classified as normal, having no morphological abnormalities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HPV 6 or 11 were not detected in any samples. Hand warts after the age of 24 years was more common among dermatology than among non-dermatology personnel (18% vs. 8.0%, p = 0.03). Mucosal HPV types are infrequent in the oral and nasal cavity of health care personnel, however, employees at departments of dermato-venereology are at risk of acquiring hand warts. The article presents a case study of a 71-year old male crematory operator presented to clinic in 2017 with severe actinic damage on the right side of his face, and had a history of multiple basal and squamous cell carcinomas on the scalp and face because of the unilateral actinic damage. The article discusses that crematory equipment was contaminated with a radiopharmaceutical, lutetium Lu 177 and a radioactive isotope, technetium Tc 99m, was detected in the urine of a crematory operator.

The article presents information regarding a study, evaluating the effect of discontinuation of folate antagonist, Methotrexate (MTX) for treatment of psoriasis. It informs that that the study reviewed the records of all patients of psoriasis, registered as having an international classification of disease (ICD 10) in the period of 1997-2007. It is concluded that the efficacy, prevalence and the severity of MTX depends on treatment dose.

The article presents a case study of a 52-year-old man with a long year history of chronic psoriatic arthritis involving multiple joints who developed hyperpigmentation of the face after treatment with adalimumab. Mild psoriasis limited to a single lesion was observed in the patient's ear before treatment. The authors note that hyperpigmentation remained unchanged after discontinuation of adalimumab and methotrexate (MTX).

• Nitrate retention was estimated by flow-proportional sampling and sensors. • Summer nutrient retention was efficient (%), but was a small part of yearly mass. • Organic nitrogen retention was efficient in the first winter, but not the second. • Sensors are essential for evaluating nutrient dynamics and retention. Constructed free water surface wetlands (CWs) are used to reduce nutrient and sediment loads to receiving waters in highly impacted catchments by e.g., agricultural land use. In this paper, we evaluated the retention effectiveness of a Swedish CW in two consecutive hydrological years, 3–4 years after construction respectively. We compared nutrient loads based on concentrations from flow-proportional sampling (C fp) and turbidity and nitrate concentrations measured with optical sensors (C s). CW's retention was estimated based on differences between inlet and outlet concentrations and flow (Q) at both the inlet and outlet (2Q), or only at the inlet (1Q). In the first year (2012/2013), with a cold winter (mean topsoil temperature −0.2 °C), nitrate-nitrogen (NO 3 N) retention was 32% (C fp and C s , 2Q). In the second year, with a mild winter (mean topsoil temp 1.8 °C) and less water runoff, the corresponding values were 37% (C fp , 2Q) and 39% (C s , 2Q). Nitrate-nitrogen retention was significantly correlated to water residence time and temperature, and was most effective relative to the load (80%) in summer and least effective (40%) in winter. Quantitatively, however, summer NO 3 N retention contributed only 7% (2Q) or 8% (1Q) of yearly NO3N mass retention. Particulate phosphorus (PP) concentrations were significantly correlated with suspended solids (SS) concentrations at both inlet and outlet. Seasonal PP retention (C fp , 2Q) was related to particle residence time estimated from turbidity measurements by sensors, and was less effective in the cold winter (3%) than in the mild winter (32%) (C fp , 2Q). Yearly retention (2Q) as a mean of the two years was: SS 40%, total P 36%, PP 34%, dissolved reactive P 30%, total N 56%, NO 3 N 35%, organic N 75%, and organic C 30%. Overall, the wetland satisfactorily removed nutrients from agricultural drainage water. However, longer-term studies over a range of flow and temperature conditions are needed to evaluate climate conditions and hydrological residence time as key factors in nutrient removal efficiency. Background: Reducing the number of doses in the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination regimen from 3 to 2 could increase coverage rates. In this cohort study, we assessed the risk of genital warts (GWs) according to timing and number of doses of quadrivalent HPV vaccine., Methods: From population-based registries, we identified all girls in Denmark born during 1985-1999, for whom information on HPV vaccinations was retrieved. The cohort was followed for GW occurrence during 2006-2012. Incidence rate ratios (IRRs) were calculated by Poisson regression to determine differences in GW rates by number of vaccine doses., Results: Of the 550,690 girls in the cohort, 361 734 had been vaccinated. Of these, 25.9% had been vaccinated twice and 58.8% 3 times. The risk of GWs decreased significantly with each additional dose of vaccine. For girls who received 2 doses, extension of the interval between doses reduced the incidence of GWs. In comparison with a 2-month interval, the incidence of GWs was reduced by 45% (95% confidence interval [CI], 20%-62%), 55% (95% CI, 35%-69%), and 63% (95% CI, 44%-75%), with an interval of 4, 5, and 6 months, respectively. The IRR of 2 vs 3 doses was close to 1, with an interval of about 6 months between the first 2 doses., Conclusions: With the original vaccine schedule, completion of 3 doses seems to be required to obtain full protection against GWs. A 2-dose regimen may be as effective if the dosing interval is extended to around 6 months, although the long-term effectiveness of this regimen is unknown., (© The Author 2015. Introduction: In 2003 the national guidelines for the treatment of patients with oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) were established. Patients with clinically negative neck are now treated with surgery as opposed to radiotherapy previously. The aim of this study is to evaluate the surgical morbidity for these patients., Materials and Methods: This study included patients with primary diagnosed OSCC classified as T1-T2N0M0 treated between June 2003 and June 2005 at the Department of Otolaryngology--Head & Neck Surgery, Copenhagen University Hospital. The patients had their charts reviewed and 30 went to a clinical examination and were interviewed about complaints following the surgical treatment., Results: 60 patients were included. In order to be able to determine the complications of the surgical treatment, 30 of the 60 patients were excluded from the clinical examination. All patients attended and the median follow-up was 9 months. The transient complication most frequently registered was postoperative bleeding. The most frequent permanent complications were damage of the marginal branch (10%) and the sensory nerves, the major auricular nerve and the lingual nerve (13%). Patients undergoing bilateral neck dissection have an increased risk of complications., Conclusion: The majority of complications were transient, and the patients had few complaints after the operation. The most frequently encountered complication was nerve damage, but the general morbidity was estimated to be reasonable. It is important that the guidelines are followed consistently and that the surgical skills are evaluated.
