Infographics are used to display information in a visual form with a graphic component, and have become widespread due to the convergence of the media space, which has transformed the processes of collecting, processing, broadcasting, and, most importantly, presenting information. The purpose of the article is to consider infographics as a media format for self-presentation of an organisation, as a tool for managing its image. The conducted analysis allows us to show a classification of the infographics according to the following criteria: display method, data type, purpose, presentation format, presence of interactivity, and time perspective. The functionality of the infographics is quite wide: these are functions, such as cognitive, analytical, factual, instructive, argumentative, ascertaining, attractive, expressive, aesthetic, identification, decorative, etc. However, some functions are still not sufficiently disclosed. The article examines the function of presenting the infographics in the media space and, based on a rapid survey, shows its importance in terms of informing the audience about the content of the organisation’s activities, revealing the viral potential of the infographics and its impact on the positive perception of the audience. This all points to the possibility of using the infographics as a media format for self-presentation of an organisation in various target communities, as an effective tool for managing image perception.

The article is a critical analysis of the "500+ Family" Programme, a new instrument of demographic and family policy in Poland. The article seeks to answer the question: what are the effects of the Program implementation from the perspective of various structural categories and social actors which we can find in the Polish scientific and journalistic discourse? The "500+ Family" Programme, officially aimed to encourage people to have the second and more children, improving the educational potential of families and increasing the scope of economic security in families with children, is actually an instrument of social policy with a wide spectrum of both positive and negative influences in the areas of income, labour market, mental health, citizens' financial situation, their subjectivity and women's empowerment. The study offers a presentation and organisation of all effects of changes induced by the "500+ Family" Program which currently exist in the public debate in Poland. The authors of the article tried to collect data and expert comments present in public discourse regarding the broad spectrum of the Program's impact on the socio-economic situation of various social groups and categories. With the introduction of a new school curriculum in South Africa in 1998, Technology as a school subject was introduced for the first time. Implementation by the National Department of Education took place over a very short time frame allowing very little time for adequate training of technology teachers by the provincial departments of education. Teachers were expected to implement technology in schools without being adequately trained. They needed to develop their professional knowledge which comprises school knowledge, subject knowledge and pedagogical knowledge. This could mainly be done through continuing professional teacher development (CPTD). To address the lack of CPTD opportunities and to develop these teachers’ professional knowledge, the Unit for Technology Education at a university in South Africa established a Community of Practice (CoP) as a strategy to develop teachers’ professional knowledge in Civil Technology. However, after a number of CoP workshops, and although these CoPs have been designed to serve as a tool for CPTD, we do not know to what extent it succeeds in developing teachers’ professional knowledge. The purpose of this article is to determine to what extent the CoP succeeded in developing teachers’ professional knowledge. A qualitative study was conducted. Data were collected through the observation of the teachers during the CoPs, open-ended questionnaires and field notes taken during workshop discussions. The main findings were that the teachers gained discipline knowledge and acquired instructional methodology (pedagogy) from which learners may benefit. Drawing from seven months of fieldwork among independent artists and their communities in Guangzhou, China, in 2020–2021, this paper investigates the feminist alternative practices in response to the experiences of gender marginalisation of independent artists. Along with being sexualised and discouraged by some of their art colleagues and the public, there has been an emergence of alternative practices among female independent artists in Guangzhou, including alternative art production, space cultivation, and community development. Alternative art practices have not only diversified the expression and representation of female artists; they have also helped female and non-binary people connect to discuss gender-related issues and provide mutual support. Altogether, these expanding feminist practices, spaces, and communities have yielded everyday life strategies to negotiate and contest existing patriarchal conventions and imbalanced power relationships. Can law graduates contribute to the development of fair technology in a world where rapid technological innovation often outpaces societal considerations? This paper explores the gap between the skills required for a career in "responsible tech" and the skills taught in law and technology courses in the UK. It uses a literature review to identify four types of skills that are relevant for job applicants in this field: technological skills, legal knowledge, context awareness and soft skills. It then analyses 200 job advertisements from three "responsible tech" job boards to determine which skills are most in demand by employers. Finally, it discusses these findings in the light of the current state of law and technology education in the UK. The paper argues that there is a need for more alignment between law and technology curricula and the real-world needs of the "responsible tech" sector. It also suggests some ways to improve legal education in this area, such as interdisciplinary collaboration, experiential learning and critical thinking. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses the use of AI chatbots in education and its potential impact on liberal education. It highlights concerns that AI chatbots may homogenize students' thinking and presentation of ideas, discourage engagement with valuable learning processes, and prioritize performance over effort. The author suggests that the use of AI chatbots in education should be accompanied by a redesign of assessment methods and a shift towards an education system that values learning over grades. Purpose: Integrated marketing communications (IMC) is possibly "the richest and most accessible service-learning experience" in the marketing curriculum (Petkus, 2000, p. 68). Yet, despite this recognition, scholars and practitioners continue to lament the pronounced theory-practice gap between how IMC is taught and the practice of it in industry (Schultz and Patti, 2009; Kerr and Kelly, 2017). This research embeds IMC practice within a classroom setting and subsequently explores student marketers' perceptions of their skill development through experiential client-based learning. Design/methodology/approach: An in-depth qualitative study demonstrates the value of integrating experiential learning within an IMC course, captured through students' reflective practice. Findings: Evidence suggests that experiential, client-based projects are suitable for fostering key practice-based skills in the classroom through students "experiencing" IMC at work. However, this is not always easy. In fact, building key skills such as leadership, motivation, communications, organisation and teamwork presents various challenges for students, whilst students appear unaware of other pertinent skills (e.g. persuasion, critical thinking) gained through exposure to "real-world" IMC tasks. Practical implications: Instructors adopting experiential learning in the marketing classroom have an opportunity to actively design tasks to embed key workplace skills to bridge the theory-practice gap. Client-based projects offer fertile ground for students to experience marketing in action whilst ultimately bolstering their confidence in their workplace skills. Originality/value: This research contributes to the marketing education literature and acknowledges the importance of embedding key workplace skills into the contemporary marketing curriculum. An overview of challenges and solutions for instructors seeking to adopt experiential learning via client-based projects in the IMC classroom is presented within this research. Ongoing advancements are being made in mathematics education to meet the demands of modern pedagogy and student learning. Therefore, it is imperative to understand contemporary research trends in mathematics textbooks to align with contemporary pedagogical standards and accommodate diverse student learning needs. The current bibliometric review aims to analyse the publication trends of studies about mathematics textbooks. This review employed datasets from the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases and analysed them using ScientoPy and VOSviewer. The examination of publication trends revealed a substantial surge in academic engagement in mathematics textbooks, particularly in recent times in both databases. The surge in publications signifies an expanding scholarly focus and commitment to advancing knowledge in mathematics education, with a particular emphasis on mathematics textbooks. An examination of source titles unveiled that Journal of Physics: Conference Series articles impact the discourse within the field. Some prevalent keywords, including "mathematics textbooks", "problem-posing", and "statistics education", have surfaced in contemporary research, attesting to the field's evolving trends. The growing emphasis on "design" and "cognitive demand" indicates an expanding aspiration to foster enhanced conceptual comprehension and cognitive involvement among students. Further investigation into the impact of instructional design and cognitive demand on fostering more profound understanding and active participation in mathematics is warranted, particularly emphasising the practical ramifications for curriculum designers and educators. Introduction. Online customer reviews present one of the most important factors in book purchasing or borrowing decisions. Given that only well-organized reviews are useful, Amazon has already started linking multiple formats and editions of the same book. Nevertheless, this method is not suitable for books that have appeared in many formats and editions as some attributes do not apply to all versions. Research questions. In our study we were interested in the aspects of a book users perceive as important and the extent to which these attributes match FRBR entities. We were also interested in the relation between specific attributes in the reviews and the numeric rating of the book. Methods. We used content analysis on two random samples of Amazon customer reviews. The sample included a total of 600 reviews of three well-known fiction book titles that have many formats and editions that accommodate the different preferences of readers. Results. The results show that readers take into consideration book information at various abstraction levels that match those in the FRBR model. Most reviewers comment on the book content while review readers consider reviews that comment on different aspects of a book as more helpful. Conclusions. Given that subjective opinion is an important factor in the users' book selection decision, it would be reasonable to rethink the presentation and organisation of online book reviews. Field practice is an important part of training geography research talents. However, traditional teaching methods may not adequately manage, share and implement instruction resources and thus may limit the instructor's ability to conduct field instruction. A possible answer is found in the rapid development of computer-assisted instruction ( CAI), a new teaching mode for the Information Age. A 'virtual field trip' is an amalgam of Internet and multimedia techniques with great potential for geography field instruction, as it can arouse students' enthusiasm and immerse them in learning. However, limited by available technology, virtual field trips have disadvantages in terms of content presentation, data organisation, and loss or inadequate representation of spatial information. To overcome the above shortcomings, a map-based, spatially correlated design method was proposed for a CAI system in geography. By integrating spatial information technology ( Geographic Information System, Global Positioning System, remote sensing, etc) and information delivery methods (web services, databases, etc), a WebGIS-based teaching assistant system for geography field practice ( TASGFP) was established, realising an effective spatial management scheme and forming a shared platform for instruction material. Its efficiency was verified through the actual application, although there remains room for improvement. Nevertheless, the TASGFP stands as an effective CAI tool in geography instruction. Background: In recent years, healthcare systems have progressively adopted several technologies enhancing access to healthcare for older adults and support the delivery of efficient and effective care for this specific population. These technologies include both assistive technologies designed to maintain or improve the independence, social participation and functionality of older people at home, as well as health information technology developed to manage long-term conditions. Examples of such technologies include telehealth, wearable devices and mobile health. However, despite the great promise that health technology holds for promoting independent living among older people, its actual implementation remains challenging. Methods: This study aimed to conduct an integrative systematic review of the research evidence on the factors that facilitate or hinder the adoption of different types of technology by older individuals with chronic diseases. For this purpose, four electronic databases (PsycArticles, Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed) were queried to search for indexed published studies. The methodological quality of the selected papers has been assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). Results: Twenty-nine articles were selected, including 6.213 adults aged 60 or older. The studies have been synthesised considering the types of technological interventions and chronic diseases, as well as the main barriers and facilitators in technology acceptance. The results revealed that the majority of the selected articles focused on comorbid conditions and the utilisation of telemedicine tools. With regard to hindering and facilitating factors, five main domains were identified: demographic and socioeconomic, health-related, dispositional, technology-related and social factors. Conclusion: The study results have practical implications not only for technology developers but also for all the social actors involved in the design and implementation of healthcare technologies, including formal and informal caregivers and policy stakeholders. These actors could use this work to enhance their understanding of the utilisation of technology by the ageing population. This review emphasises the factors that facilitate technology adoption and identifies barriers that impede it, with the ultimate goal of promoting health and independent living. This paper is a collaborative interdisciplinary examination of the scientific, political, and cultural determinants of the conservation status of mammal species that occur in both Canada and the USA. We read Canada's Species at Risk Act as a document of bio-cultural nationalism circumscribed by the weak federalism and Crown–Indigenous relations of the nation's constitution. We also provide a numerical comparison of at-risk species listings either side of the US–Canada border and examples of provincial/state listings in comparison with those at a federal level. We find 17 mammal species listed as at-risk in Canada as distinct from the USA, and only 6 transboundary species that have comparable levels of protection in both countries, and we consider several explanations for this asymmetry. We evaluate the concept of 'jurisdictional rarity', in which species are endangered only because a geopolitical boundary isolates a small population. The paper begins and ends with reflections on interdisciplinary collaboration, and our findings highlight the importance of considering and explicitly acknowledging political influences on science and conservation-decision making, including in the context of at-risk-species protection. Postgraduate writing is a major academic feature through which students' learning progress is assessed. It is thus of paramount importance that students must meet the academic writing demands required by their respective academic schools and departments in order to pass their chosen courses. The study strives to explore the extent to which native and non-native English-speaking postgraduate students are required to conform to the norm of native-speakerism preferable to native English faculty members in some United Kingdom (UK) universities. This study is mainly qualitative and it involves three research instruments: (a) open-ended surveys targeting 111 native and non-native postgraduate students and 65 lecturers from different departments, (b) semi-structured interviews conducted with 13 lecturers and 10 students, and (c) an analysis of lecturers’ feedback on 53 students’ written productions. The findings show that the recommendations to conform to native English conventions exist only in some theoretical research. In practice, however, UK universities and academic staff do not save efforts to enable their students to express their ideas in clear comprehensible academic English. These results yield some insightful penetrations not only to the host universities but also to overseas governments as well. This article reflects the personal experiences of its author: a musician, teacher and current leader in the secondary independent sector. It provides an initial exploration of the link between leadership and musicianship, pivoting on the concept of performance and how specific socialised and embedded skills and experiences developed through musical performance resonate with notions of leadership in education. The intention is to raise awareness of the positive attributes of musicianship which are sometimes lost in the mist of artistic endeavour. Setting technical mastery aside, a raft of experiences, including presentation, formality, organisation, collaboration, a blend of aesthetic and academic enrichment and emotional sensitivity equip a capable musician with skills that transpose seamlessly into the role of leadership. Many of these experiences apply to other artistic fields within education and perhaps this debate will encourage those who appoint leaders to reconsider the attributes of artistic experiences. Bourdieu’s conceptual lens provides a theoretical foundation highlighting habitus and field as useful tools to filter leadership experience in a musical context. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

In Imāmī legal theory, the akhbār of the Imams form one of the material sources of law, alongside the Qur'ān and Prophetic hadīths. The akhbār are presented in compendia, assembled by Shi'ite collectors in the fourth and fifth century AH/tenth and eleventh century CE, four of which subsequently came to be regarded as "canonical" in Imāmī law. In this essay, I examine the processes at work in the collation of these "canonical" akhbār collections. These processes, I argue, were influenced by an emerging juristic tradition in Imāmī Shi'ism. As Imāmī thinkers became increasingly concerned with fiqh and the elucidation of the Sharī'a, the collectors developed new techniques of selection, presentation and organisation. The akhbār collections became a material source upon which jurists could draw in their fiqh discussions, rather than the law itself. As an example of the processes at work in the collection and presentation of akhbār, I examine the issue of tayammum, ritual purification by sand rather than water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Within the wider drive in higher education to promote students' use of information and communications technology (ICT) it is assumed that the Internet will be a key application. Popular conceptions of a 'wired' generation of students at ease with on-line learning persist through official literature and the media. From this basis, the present paper takes an empirical perspective in students' use of the Internet, via focus group interviews with 77 students in two UK universities, and explores the factors underlying their use (and non-use) of the Internet in university. Four crucial themes were identified, namely.' (i) the ways in which students were introduced to using the Internet; (ii) operational problems encountered when using the Internet as an information resource; (iii) treatment of information retrieved from the Internet; (iv) the social element of learning in on-line environments. This article introduces research papers published in the September 1980 issue of "European Journal of Marketing." This issue is concerned with the use and potential use of multivariate techniques as an aid to marketing decision making. The objective of this issue is to expose managers, in a non-technical whenever possible, to several of the most useful of the multivariate techniques currently available. This is done through the use of practical example and discussion of where the techniques may aid managers. The author of the article hopes that this issue would serve to whet the appetite of marketing managers for a more imaginative presentation and organisation of marketing information by indicating where the various techniques may be relevant to their individual problems. The failure of researchers to tackle fully the original problems of management has led to skepticism and lack of interest amongst practitioners, a lack of communication between researcher and management. Here the problem lies mostly with academics and quantitative researchers for not taking a truly marketing perspective, or customer orientation, in seeking to meet the needs of the manager.

Background: There is limited research into how midwives use social media within their professional role. Small pilot studies have explored the introduction of social media into maternity practice and teaching but there is little evidence around how midwives use social media professionally. This is important as 89% of pregnant women turn to social media for advice during pregnancy, and how midwives use social media could be influencing women, their perception of birth and their decision making. Methods: Aim: To analyse how popular midwives portray birth on the social media platform Instagram. This is an observational mixed methods study using content analysis. Five 'popular' midwives from each country (UK, New Zealand, USA and Australia) were identified and their posts about birth collated from a one-year period (2020–21). Images/videos were then coded. Descriptive statistics enabled comparison of the posts by country. Categorisation was used to analyse and understand the content. Results: The study identified 917 posts from the 20 midwives' accounts, containing 1216 images/videos, with most coming from USA (n = 466), and UK (n = 239), Australia (n = 205) and New Zealand (n = 7) respectively. Images/videos were categorised into 'Birth Positivity', 'Humour', 'Education', 'Birth Story' and 'Advertisement'. Midwives' portrayals of birth represented a greater proportion of vaginal births, waterbirths and homebirths than known national birth statistics. The most popular midwives identified mainly had private businesses (n = 17). Both the midwives and women portrayed in images were primarily white, demonstrating a disproportionate representation. Conclusion: There is a small midwifery presence on Instagram that is not representative of the broader profession, or the current picture of midwifery care. This paper is the first study to explore how midwives are using the popular social media platform Instagram to portray birth. It provides insight into how midwives post an un-medicalised, low risk representation of birth. Further research is recommended to explore midwives' motivation behind their posts, and how pregnant and postnatal women engage with social media. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper reflects on depictions of islands in two novels by the Austrian author Raoul Schrott (born 1964): his first novel, Finis Terrae: Manuscripts, from 1995, and the later Tristan da Cunha or Half of the Earth from 2003. I argue that Schrott's concepts and explorations of islands strongly influence the presentation and organisation of his texts. Finis Terrae and Tristan da Cunha exhibit distinctly different concepts of the insular. Whereas the earlier text accentuates a frail, fragmented, and almost mythical condition, the later novel Tristan evokes a plethora of Western topoi about islands and heavily relies on dualities. In both cases, island concepts are also reflected in narrative gestures: oppositions are central to interpreting and analysing Tristan da Cunha, and Finis Terrae revolves around fragmentation, vagueness, and loss. Computerised rehabilitation programs can be used to address cognitive deficits typically caused by multiple sclerosis (MS). However, there are still doubts on their effectiveness, due to mixed results obtained in clinical trials. The objective of this paper is to improve cognitive rehabilitation (CR) practices in MS, by presenting and assessing a MS-specific cognitive rehabilitation software. We conducted a detailed analysis of how CR is carried out in practice in MS rehabilitation centres. From the analysis, we elicited a reference CR process, and identified the essential features a software supporting the process should have. We designed and implemented MS-rehab, a novel MS-specific computerised rehabilitation system having the identified features. We experimented MS-rehab in a pilot study involving eight MS patients. To highlight the improvement with respect to the state of the art, we compared MS-rehab with available professional tools selected using well defined criteria. This paper has three main contributions: (1) the identification of a set of essential features a computerised tool for CR in MS should provide; (2) MS-rehab, a novel CR system designed for MS therapists and patients, which embodies innovative MS specific features; (3) the assessment of MS-rehab efficacy in a pilot study with MS patients. The availability of a MS-specific CR system like MS-rehab fosters the design of more rigorous clinical studies on the effectiveness of computerised rehabilitation in MS. MS-rehab demonstrated its potential and innovativeness as a tool for cognitive rehabilitation in MS. Computerized tools for cognitive rehabilitation (CR) in multiple sclerosis (MS) can be improved by a set of MS-specific features. The availability of advanced home-based cognitive rehabilitation mechanisms is fundamental for supporting standardized cognitive rehabilitation protocols in MS. A MS-specific CR system has given promising results in a pilot study involving MS patients. Hardly do state-of-the-art professional tools include all the required MS specific features. The assessment of attention in neuropsychological patients could be performed with visual search tests. The Broken Rings enVision Search test (BReViS) here proposed represents a novel open access paper-and-pencil tool in which layout and crowding are varied among four cards. These manipulations allow the assessment of different components of attention: a selective component, the visuo-spatial orientation of attention, and the focal attention, involved in a crowding phenomenon. Our purpose was to determine the characteristics of the BReViS test, provide specific normative data, and assess these components across the lifespan. The test was administered to a sample of 550 participants aged between 20 and 79 years old and to a series of patients. Three indexes targeting different components of visuo-spatial attention (selective attention, strategic orientation of visual attention, focal attention) were obtained by combining execution times and accuracy together with the total errors. The results showed that age, education and gender influenced, in different combinations, the four indexes, for which specific norms were developed. Regression-based norms were provided in percentiles and equivalent scores. All patients showed pathological scores and specific patterns of attentional deficits. The BreViS test proved to be a free and easy valuable tool which can be used in the clinical environment to assess attentional deficits in neuropsychological patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Four teacher educators working in two higher-education institutes conducted a SCoTENS-funded self-study of possibilities and pitfalls of integrated arts practices in initial teacher education. Issues examined include most effective interdisciplinary methods, resolutions to issues encountered, professional development, and lived experiences. Using Guskey's five levels of professional development evaluation model as a lens for critique, and the SCoTENS research report as a data source, this article describes the nature and quality of professional learning stemming from integrated arts education practices. Findings indicate that all five levels of professional development had progressed. De-privatisation of practice, reciprocal exchange, and shared knowledge co-creation resulted in enjoyable and fulfilling differences to practice regarding methodologies, collaboration, and reflexivity. Benefits to students included a superior learning experience, increased theoretical insight, a better learner-teacher relationship, and increased modelling of practice. Guskey's model, though adequate in many respects, needed extending to account for the professional transformation experienced through engagement with integrated arts education practices and which encompassed other ways of perceiving, working, and being. Library's website have increased in number at a very rapid rate over the last few years and the content of these websites has been developing in parallel. The majority of libraries now have a website. With the increasing number of websites and considerable investment in them, website quality evaluation has become an important activity. Through the evaluation of selected websites, it was found that structure of the websites was not fully satisfactory. Each website lacks some structural components and features. As students transition to higher education, study skills, executive functioning skills, and life skills, are an important set of transferable skills in enabling them to learn and work more efficiently under more demanding conditions, thereby maximising their potential as well as the full benefit of their time and effort. Therefore, as dyslexia is a life-long learning difference, there is a need for specialist support even as individuals at risk or diagnosed with dyslexia transits into post-secondary education or tertiary education. Certainly, with the acquisition and competence in essential study skills and techniques, these students may become self-directed, independent and responsible learners, which are invaluable traits and characteristics for any tertiary learner. More importantly, these skills provide a strong foundation for them to be able to reach their goals and aspirations not only in school but also in their future workplace. The English Language and Literacy Division (ELL) at the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) developed the iStudySmart™ programme, which adopts an online learning approach that aims to empower students with learning differences in the areas of time management and prioritisation, planning and organisation, tertiary writing and presentation skills. The aims of iStudySmart™ were not only to bridge the gap in intervention and resources catered for students with learning challenges at the tertiary level but also to keep abreast with changing times, demands and expectations observed in the education sector. This paper evaluates the relevance and effectiveness of iStudySmart™ and also measures student self-confidence, motivation, and independence through the administration of pre- and post-questionnaires and a post-questionnaire or interview six months after. Further, qualitative data comprising testimonials from parents revealed high levels of satisfaction and recognition of the value of the online approach. Results from post-questionnaire and interview six months after indicate that all aspects of the iStudySmart™ intervention were effective, with moderate and large effect sizes for planning and organisation, tertiary writing and presentation. On the other hand, time management and prioritisation strategies learnt through the programme would need more time and practice before students can apply these in their daily lives. This paper analyses the possible causes of the replacement of certain Latin particles in the text of De Tristitia Christi, the only original Morean manuscript available. In contrast to those who have seen More's way of proceeding as a kind of excessive and fastidious concern with the choice of a specific particle, the current analysis seeks to show that the author must have possessed a fine knowledge of the possibilities and implications of the particles he uses. The application of the theoretical framework of Functional Discourse Grammar and its distinction of levels (grammatical, textual and situational) helps to identify and explain some of the reasons underlying More's final choices here. In addition, it is also possible to see the role that various different criteria - stylistic, communicative, lexical, etc. - play in the selections of the author, who took great care to ensure that the message he wanted to convey was indeed clearly rendered. Growth in e‐mental health services in the past decade has been significant, corresponding with rising rates of mental health concerns and amplified by social isolation strategies imposed by the COVID‐19 global pandemic. Governments, mental health services and practitioners have identified this as a significant area for investment and highlight its capacity for widespread reach, prevention and early intervention. At a time of growth and investment, it is critical to evaluate the extent to which online mental health platforms are effective in reaching the diverse populations they aim to serve. The current study used content analysis to evaluate 33 Australian mental health websites receiving government funding for the availability of translated materials and resources for culturally and linguistically diverse people. The websites analysed covered a range of mental health topics and overall had limited translated materials available. Only four websites (12.12%) provided a translation tool and none of the interactive tools offered, such as web chat services, were available in languages other than English. From a total of 1100 subsections across all websites, eight subsections (0.73%) were specifically targeting populations identifying as culturally and linguistically diverse. Strategic reconsideration and investment are required to enhance the capacity of current mental health platforms to engage and support the mental health needs of the diverse communities they intend to serve. International borderland landscapes have a shared history through the movement of ideas, people, culture, and even conflict. Understanding the similarities and nuanced differences of temporal landscape change between frontiers requires approaches that can effectively detail and explain the territorial evolution of both countries. Historic Landscape Characterisation (HLC) is a valuable methodological tool originally used for landscape studies in the United Kingdom. Its application outside of Britain has been limited. In this pilot study, HLC is used in the Duero River borderland context of Spain and Portugal. It is a rural region with a common history, but it also presents new methodological challenges in the acquisition of source data and the creation of a typology that effectively characterises the region while also recognising the distinctiveness between nations. This article investigates the L2 English writing of junior secondary students in Spain by analysing their argumentative texts for clausal embedding in nominal groups, or noun phrases. The ability to pack information into nominal groups has been identified in L1 and ESL contexts as crucial to the development of written English, but it is still relatively neglected in EFL syllabuses. Using understandings from systemic functional linguistics (SFL), the students' argumentative texts were examined for their use of clausal embedding in nominal groups, and for the role these expanded nominal groups play in the texts. Student texts were found to use clausal embedding to facilitate presentation and organisation of ideas, but varied in their ability to exploit the potential of the nominal group expansion. Variety was found in both extent of embedding and in control of relevant language resources. It is suggested that teachers could help their students' writing development by focussing on this generally neglected language area, and some suggestions for such help are given. A growing dissatisfaction with the political class has emerged in Italy. Inspired by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the original strategy adopted by the Five Star Movement (FSM) was to connect citizens and institutions directly, thanks to ICTs. A participation platform called "Rousseau" was created to this end in 2016. However, after the Movement's great success in the 2018 national elections, digital utopianism was gradually abandoned. In 2021, the statute was reformed, creating new roles and organs making the FSM more akin to a traditional party, and the 'Rousseau' platform was replaced by another one with limited functions. This evolution leads to three theses: first, the reference to Jean-Jacques Rousseau had a mainly symbolic value for FSM; second, as recent facts show, this ideal reference weakened with the action of governing and the 'normalisation' of the party; third, this evolution confirms that the Rousseauian ideal is difficult to realise in a complex society. Syllabus, as one of the most important tools of teaching-learning, must contain necessary contents. A clearly designed, well-presented syllabus with the contents following the best practices in the field is a prerequisite for effective teaching. To analyze the contents of the syllabi of English language development courses of Bangladeshi university English departments, this study prepared a checklist of an ideal syllabus following the relevant literature and theories. The study has found that the contents in those syllabuses are presented in a haphazard way. They cannot the meet most of the criteria of an ideal syllabus in terms of contents. Most of them have only some learning topics or items as contents; and names of some books as materials. Regarding the other aspects like goals and objectives, assessment, rubric, teaching-learning methodologies, types of useful materials etc., the syllabuses present a very poor scenario. In the presentation and organisation, a linear fashion is found seemingly without any grading.

Speech anxiety is one of the most common problems among university students. The relevance of this fear is that it considerably affects the students' participation in class and therefore their learning. This work analyses the evolution of a sample of 427 Teaching and Social Work students from the University of Zaragoza throughout the academic year with the use of a Personal Report of Confidence as a Speaker. The results show that students reduce their fear when faced with this situation and that variables such as level of previous speech anxiety, type of studies, small working groups with tasks that require a presentation, the organisation of classes as well as the teacher's behaviour, are all related with change. Amid the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, preprints in the biomedical sciences are being posted and accessed at unprecedented rates, drawing widespread attention from the general public, press, and policymakers for the first time. This phenomenon has sharpened long-standing questions about the reliability of information shared prior to journal peer review. Does the information shared in preprints typically withstand the scrutiny of peer review, or are conclusions likely to change in the version of record? We assessed preprints from bioRxiv and medRxiv that had been posted and subsequently published in a journal through April 30, 2020, representing the initial phase of the pandemic response. We utilised a combination of automatic and manual annotations to quantify how an article changed between the preprinted and published version. We found that the total number of figure panels and tables changed little between preprint and published articles. Moreover, the conclusions of 7.2% of non-COVID-19–related and 17.2% of COVID-19–related abstracts undergo a discrete change by the time of publication, but the majority of these changes do not qualitatively change the conclusions of the paper. During the COVID-19 pandemic, preprints in the biomedical sciences are being posted and accessed at unprecedented rates, but can we trust them? This special issue gathers together a selection of short articles reflecting on the historical construction of inequality and race in the histories of archaeology. The articles also suggest ways in which the discipline might grapple with the--often obvious, sometimes subtle--consequences of that historical process. Solicited via an open call for papers in the summer of 2020 (one made with the aim of speedy publication), the breadth of the topics discussed in the articles reflect how inequality and race have become more prominent research themes within the histories of archaeology in the previous five-to-ten years. At the same time, the pieces show how research can--and should--be connected to attempts to promote social justice and an end to racial discrimination within archaeological practice, the archaeological profession, and the wider worlds with which the discipline interacts. Published at a time when a pandemic has not only swept the world, but also exposed such inequalities further, the special issue represents a positive intervention in what continues to be a contentious issue. This article examines the affordances and limitations of textbooks for promoting action competence for sustainable development. Based on a content analysis of Swedish lower secondary level textbooks in geography and biology, we investigated how content about sustainable development is organised and formulated, the ways its multidimensional character is described, and how conflicts relating to achieving sustainability are addressed. We found that for both subjects, textbooks provided a fair amount of content about sustainable development, but that relations between its ecological, economic and social dimensions and between different subjects are routinely underdeveloped. We also found that the content about sustainable development obscures complexities and conflicts that are crucial for understanding the challenges involved with achieving sustainability, and taking action. In conclusion, we argue that such textbooks substantially limit the potential for promoting action competence for sustainable development, i.e. through cross-curricular approaches and critically assessing problem-oriented actions at collective and individual levels. Mobile phones have a rapidly growing language teaching and learning potential due to various technologies and applications including instant messaging. However, the related literature mostly documents studies aiming at investigating their role for teaching vocabulary, pronunciation, and content, and thus there are calls to focus on other skills, including writing. Responding to these calls to solve the problem of research scarcity on other skills, I opted for a qualitative research design to investigate the pedagogical potential of WhatsApp©, perceive my students' experiences, and evaluate the process with all strengths and weaknesses. I attempted to make contributions to the existing knowledge on the role of WhatsApp© as one of the most commonly utilised mobile instant messaging applications for language teaching. At the end of a 4-month-period, I gathered my detailed qualitative data from 44 preparatory programme English majoring students at a large-size public university in the northeast of Turkey via a self-devised open-ended questionnaire and conducted a thematic content analysis. My findings highlighted the potential of WhatsApp© as an educational tool to enhance language skills and allow practice chance, offer entertainment and increase interest, decrease anxiety and increase motivation, encourage participation, offer a better communication between the teacher and the students, and help self-improvement. However, no classroom implementation is without limitations, and WhatsApp©-geared interaction was no exception as the implementation had some challenges such as student inconvenience, emotion-related issues, technical problems, content-related and language issues. Based on my dual role, that is, both an academician and practitioner (pracademic), I offered some pedagogical implications for those who want to utilise mobile phones to bring classroom and outside world together to enhance language teaching. The scarcity of Malaysian undergraduate students' course experience and their overall satisfaction in higher education literature has prompted this study to examine the effects of five course experience quality factors on students' overall satisfaction and gender difference perspective. Data were collected from 315 undergraduate students at a Malaysian research university using a Malay version course experience questionnaire (CEQ). This quantitative study used partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) for data analysis. Findings of Henseler's multigroup analysis and the permutation methods revealed no significant differences between male and female groups with the five course experience quality factors on students' overall satisfaction. However, findings of the pooled dataset revealed good teaching, clear goals and standards, appropriate workload and appropriate assessment have significant effects on students' overall satisfaction. The roots of Savate in France stretch back at least 200 years, and there is extensive interdisciplinary research in French showing changing interpretations of its meaning and purpose. Savate is now a globalised combat sports with potential to enter the Olympic Games. To help remedy the lacuna of English-language research, this paper considers: (1) Documentaries and rare instructional literature; (2) online videos and discussions of archival Savate footage; (3) contemporary documentation from the Great Britain Savate Federation; and, (4) ongoing fieldwork in one UK Savate school. Through our multimodal study of printed, televised, digital and physical action, we add to the discussions to the constant reinvention of Savate to a modern, seemingly inclusive combat sport. Using John Urry's framework of mobilities, we introduce the notion of 'mobile masculinities' underpinned by a European sense of relatively elite individualistic cosmopolitanism. Savate provides a rich case study of gender inclusivity in sport – how a previously male-dominated activity incorporates women in positions of power and responsibility and teaches men to acquire elegance in style and elite levels of stamina. Mobile devices are becoming ubiquitous among older adults, but have also caused unprecedented challenges due to the high demands of interaction techniques and changeable design patterns found across various applications. This paper aims to investigate how older adults navigate with mobile interfaces and identify their potential usability challenges while navigating. To do so, we summarised six state-of-the-art mobile interface design patterns and conducted individual usability test and in-depth interview with 22 older adults. Participants were asked to perform 19 navigation tasks that contain these design patterns under realistic usage scenarios. Follow-up interviews were held to collect their detailed comments on usability issues regarding visual design, ease of understanding, and interaction and navigation of the design patterns, as well as their personal experience. The results found that overall older adults were able to navigate contents more effectively than menus and buttons. Participants experienced great challenges in directing their attention to the menus and buttons, understanding the meaning of icons, and interacting with these menu components. In contrast, the content-oriented navigation design performed better in understanding, navigation, and interaction, which could be a promising direction for elderly-friendly mobile application design. Background Diagnostic errors have often been attributed to biases in physicians' reasoning. Interventions to 'immunise' physicians against bias have focused on improving reasoning processes and have largely failed. Objective To investigate the effect of increasing physicians' relevant knowledge on their susceptibility to availability bias. Design, settings and participants Three-phase multicentre randomised experiment with second-year internal medicine residents from eight teaching hospitals in Brazil. Interventions Immunisation: Physicians diagnosed one of two sets of vignettes (either diseases associated with chronic diarrhoea or with jaundice) and compared/ contrasted alternative diagnoses with feedback. Biasing phase (1 week later): Physicians were biased towards either inflammatory bowel disease or viral hepatitis. Diagnostic performance test: All physicians diagnosed three vignettes resembling inflammatory bowel disease, three resembling hepatitis (however, all with different diagnoses). Physicians who increased their knowledge of either chronic diarrhoea or jaundice 1 week earlier were expected to resist the bias attempt. Main outcome measurements Diagnostic accuracy, measured by test score (range 0-1), computed for subjected-to-bias and not-subjected-to-bias vignettes diagnosed by immunised and not-immunised physicians. Results Ninety-one residents participated in the experiment. Diagnostic accuracy differed on subjected-to-bias vignettes, with immunised physicians performing better than non-immunised physicians (0.40 vs 0.24; difference in accuracy 0.16 (95% CI 0.05 to 0.27); p=0.004), but not on not-subjected-to-bias vignettes (0.36 vs 0.41; difference -0.05 (95% CI -0.17 to 0.08); p=0.45). Bias only hampered non-immunised physicians, who performed worse on subjected-to-bias than not-subjected-to-bias vignettes (difference -0.17 (95% CI -0.28 to -0.05); p=0.005); immunised physicians' accuracy did not differ (p=0.56). Conclusions An intervention directed at increasing knowledge of clinical findings that discriminate between similar-looking diseases decreased physicians' susceptibility to availability bias, reducing diagnostic errors, in a simulated setting. Objective To develop a tool to assess the quality of peerreview reports in biomedical research. Methods We conducted an online survey intended for biomedical editors and authors. The survey aimed to (1) determine if participants endorse the proposed definition of peer-review report quality; (2) identify the most important items to include in the final version of the tool and (3) identify any missing items. Participants rated on a 5-point scale whether an item should be included in the tool and they were also invited to comment on the importance and wording of each item. Principal component analysis was performed to examine items redundancy and a general inductive approach was used for qualitative data analysis. Results A total of 446 biomedical editors and authors participated in the survey. Participants were mainly male (65.9%), middle-aged (mean=50.3, SD=13) and with PhD degrees (56.4%). The majority of participants (84%) agreed on the definition of peer-review report quality we proposed. The 20 initial items included in the survey questionnaire were generally highly rated with a mean score ranging from 3.38 (SD=1.13) to 4.60 (SD=0.69) (scale 1–5). Participants suggested 13 items that were not included in the initial list of items. A steering committee composed of five members with different expertise discussed the selection of items to include in the final version of the tool. The final checklist includes 14 items encompassed in five domains (Importance of the study, Robustness of the study methods, Interpretation and discussion of the study results, Reporting and transparency of the manuscript, Characteristics of peer reviewer’s comments). Conclusion Assessment of Review reports with a Checklist Available to eDItors and Authors tool could be used regularly by editors to evaluate the reviewers’ work, and also as an outcome when evaluating interventions to improve the peer-review process. Objective: Undergraduate and postgraduate medical education providers are increasingly looking to online options for lecture delivery, training and resources. This trend has been encouraged by arguments of flexibility, accessibility and the ability to individualise content. A narrative review of the literature was completed, aiming to consider the opportunities and challenges associated with online psychiatric teaching. Additionally, initiatives to introduce online learning to complement traditional approaches in psychiatric education in the Australian context are discussed. On the basis of this review, a range of strategies are suggested to facilitate the effective implementation of online learning, maximise student engagement and enhance educational outcomes.Conclusion: The effective introduction of online learning in psychiatric training will be enhanced by paying attention to challenges related to content, format and those arising when attempting to convey the art of psychiatry. Newspapers as an infrastructural form both circulate and construct security knowledge. In analysing South African national newspapers' pivotal role in the securitisation of Muslims, this paper displays the political rationality behind such securitisation. It identifies and examines instances of securitisation within the South African press. Specifically, utilising discourse analytical tools to operationalise the theory and to identify how the securitisation of Muslims have taken place, this paper analyses newspaper utterances that label Muslims as the 'enemy' with the expectation that such speech-acts result, instantaneously, in the introduction of emergency measures to stop the threat. The intention is to show that the South African press is integral to a network that enables the aims of the so-called 'War on Terror'. Labelling the press a securitising agent is consistent with contemporary theorisation but challenges the original conception of securitisation theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article seeks to present the current status of foresight in France in the state public service.1 First, it provides information that will help understand the field and identify the stakeholders and the topics on which they work. Second, it considers the instability of foresight activities in ministries, the low level of development of foresight in parliament and the search for a new posture by deconcentrated state services vis-à-vis foresight activities conducted by local and regional authorities. There has not been such a synthesis in French or in English before. It is primarily targeted at non-French speakers and at the civil servants from other Member States of the European Union who wish to understand the field of foresight inFrance and possibly work with their French counterparts.2. Our goal in this article is to organise an epistemological matrix for the concept of rational number that contemplates its different meanings. Aiming at understanding the various ways to signify the rational numbers and based on the theoretical-methodological approach of conceptual profiles, we produce and analyse data from various sources, including the sociocultural and ontogenetic domains, namely data extracted from secondary sources on the history of mathematics, mathematical analysis of subconstructs of rational numbers, analysis of textbooks for the middle and high school, as well as textbooks for higher education, research data on students' alternative conceptions, interviews with 3 teacher educators and 4 in-service teachers from middle and high school. Such data allowed us, by means of an active interpretation of the researchers, to list 11 themes from which the rational numbers can be signified and to organise them into an epistemological matrix. Finally, we conduct a theoretical discussion that compares our epistemological matrix with an already quite widespread perspective in mathematics education, which is Kieren's subconstructs.
