High costs and time consuming associated with experimental trial-and-error result in low efficiency, creating an urgent need for a more effective strategy for ultra-high temperature ceramic matrix composites (UHTCMCs) development. Inspired by the exceptional performance of machine learning (ML) algorithms across various domains, this work employs ML algorithms to construct models and conduct in-depth analysis of the key factors and their patterns influencing the ablation resistance of UHTCMCs. A set of 26 dimensional features that could potentially impact the ablation resistance of UHTCMCs were established based on domain knowledge. Eight typical ML models were used to build and predict the linear ablation rate (LAR) of UHTCMCs. Results show that the random forest model has optimal generalization performance, with mean absolute error (MAE), mean squared error (MSE), and coefficient of determination (R 2) being 2.75 μm s−1 and 7.3 (μm s−1)2, and 0.71 respectively. The Shapley additive explanations values based on the random forest model reveal that the key features affecting the LAR of UHTCMCs are ranked as average melting point of ceramics (AMPC) > thermal conductivity of material (TCM) > thermal expansion coefficient of oxides (TECO) > fabrication temperature of material (FTM), all showing a negative influence on the LAR. Symbolic regression further indicates that AMPC, TCM, and TECO have an exponential negative correlation with LAR. These data-driven conclusions have been thoroughly validated through the use of C f /(TiZrHfNbTa)C composites. Metamaterial absorbers (MMAs) have tremendous potential for controlling and modulating Terahertz electromagnetic (EM) waves. It is challenging to design MMAs for optimal performance using conventional methods due to their time-consuming and computationally demanding nature. Machine learning (ML) regressor approaches have emerged as potential tools for optimizing the predictive modeling of MMAs in recent years. This article examined different regression techniques, such as Decision Tree, k-Nearest Neighbors, Random Forest, Extra Trees (ET), Extreme Gradient Boosting, Bagging, and Categorical Boosting. The primary goal is to assess the effectiveness of each regressor technique in forecasting the performance of MMAs using various performance metrics. The study focuses on a representative spectrum of MMAs, chosen for its key features that are common across a wide range of MMAs. The extra tree Regressor outperforms other models in the comparative analysis due to its capacity to integrate multiple decision trees and include randomness into the feature selection process, resulting in improved predictive skills. The ET regressor forecasts MMA performance remarkably well for a 70 % test size, with a Root Mean Squared Error of 0.0251, a Mean Absolute Error of 0.0074, a Mean Squared Error of 0.006, and an Adjusted R-squared of 0.9873. These findings can assist researchers in optimizing metamaterial absorber designs for Terahertz applications using ML regressor techniques and provide insights into how these methods can be generalized to other spectra with similar characteristics. Pneumonia is one of the most common complications after spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH), i.e., stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP). Timely identification of targeted patients is beneficial to reduce poor prognosis. So far, there is no consensus on SAP prediction, and application of existing predictors is limited. The aim of this study was to develop a machine learning model to predict SAP after sICH. We retrospectively reviewed 748 patients diagnosed with sICH and collected data from 4 dimensions—demographic features, clinical features, medical history, and laboratory tests. Five machine learning algorithms—logistic regression, gradient boosting decision tree, random forest, extreme gradient boosting, and category boosting—were used to build and validate the predictive model. We also applied recursive feature elimination with cross-validation to obtain the best feature combination for each model. Predictive performance was evaluated by area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. SAP was diagnosed in 237 patients. The model developed by category boosting yielded the most satisfactory outcomes overall with area under the receiver operating characteristic curves in the training set and test set of 0.8307 and 0.8178, respectively. To evaluate combinations of candidate biomarkers to develop a multiplexed prediction model for identifying the viability and location of an early pregnancy. In this study, we assessed 24 biomarkers with multiple machine learning-based methodologies to assess if multiplexed biomarkers may improve the diagnosis of normal and abnormal early pregnancies. A nested case-control design evaluated the predictive ability and discrimination of biomarkers in patients at risk of early pregnancy failure in the first trimester to classify viability and location. Three university hospitals. A total of 218 individuals with pain and/or bleeding in early pregnancy: 75 had an ongoing intrauterine gestation; 68 had ectopic pregnancies (EPs); and 75 had miscarriages. Serum levels of 24 biomarkers were assessed in the same patients. Multiple machine learning-based methodologies to evaluate combinations of these top candidates to develop a multiplexed prediction model for the identification of a nonviable pregnancy (ongoing intrauterine pregnancy vs. miscarriage or EP) and an EP (EP vs. ongoing intrauterine pregnancy or miscarriage). The predicted classification using each model was compared with the actual diagnosis, and sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, conclusive classification, and accuracy were calculated. Models using classification regression tree analysis using 3 (pregnancy-specific beta-1-glycoprotein 3 [PSG3], chorionic gonadotropin-alpha subunit, and pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A) biomarkers were able to predict a maximum sensitivity of 93.3% and a maximum specificity of 98.6%. The model with the highest accuracy was 97.4% (with 70.2% receiving classification). Models using an overlapping group of 3 (soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1, PSG3, and tissue factor pathway inhibitor 2) biomarkers achieved a maximum sensitivity of 98.5% and a maximum specificity of 95.3%. The model with the highest accuracy was 94.4% (with 65.6% receiving classification). When the models were used simultaneously, the conclusive classification increased to 72.7% with an accuracy of 95.9%. The predictive ability of the biomarkers in the random forest produced similar test characteristics when using 11 predictive biomarkers. We have demonstrated a pool of biomarkers from divergent biological pathways that can be used to classify individuals with potential early pregnancy loss. Landslides and flash floods are geomorphic hazards (GH) that often co-occur and interact and frequently lead to societal and environmental impact. The compilation of detailed multi-temporal inventories of GH events over a variety of contrasting natural as well as human-influenced landscapes is essential to understanding their behavior in both space and time and allows to unravel the human drivers from the natural baselines. Yet, creating multi-temporal inventories of these GH events remains difficult and costly in terms of human labor, especially when relatively large regions are investigated. Methods to derive GH location from satellite optical imagery have been continuously developed and have shown a clear shift in recent years from conventional methodologies like thresholding and regression to machine learning (ML) methodologies given their improved predictive performance. However, these current generation ML methodologies generally rely on accurate information on either the GH location (training samples) or the GH timing (pre- and post-event imagery), making them unfit in unexplored regions without a priori information on GH occurrences. Currently, a detection methodology to create multi-temporal GH event inventories applicable in relatively large unexplored areas containing a variety of landscapes does not yet exist. We present a new semi-supervised methodology that allows for the detection of both location and timing of GH event occurrence with optical time series, while minimizing manual user interventions. We use the peak of the cumulative difference to the mean for a multitude of spectral indices derived from open-access, high spatial resolution (10–20 m) Copernicus Sentinel-2 time series and generate a map per Sentinel-2 tile that identifies impacted pixels and their related timing. These maps are used to identify GH event impacted zones. We use the generated maps, the identified GH events impacted zones and the automatically derived timing and use them as training sample in a Random Forest classifier to improve the spatial detection accuracy within the impacted zone. We showcase the methodology on six Sentinel-2 tiles in the tropical East African Rift where we detect 29 GH events between 2016 and 2021. We use 12 of these GH events (totalizing ∼3900 GH features) with varying time of occurrence, contrasting landscape conditions and different landslide to flash flood ratios to validate the detection methodology. The average identified timing of the GH events lies within two to four weeks of their actual occurrence. The sensitivity of the methodology is mainly influenced by the differences in landscapes, the amount of cloud cover and the size of the GH events. Disposable email address services have gained popularity recently, offering users a way to register for online services without revealing their primary email. However, this poses challenges for organizations aiming to engage with genuine users. This paper introduces a novel approach combining natural language processing (NLP) and domain validation to identify disposable email addresses. The technique employs various machine learning methods, including Support Vector Classifier (SVC), Multinomial Naive Bayes (MNB), Gaussian Naive Bayes (GNB), Logistic Regression, XGBoost Classifier, K Neighbors Classifier, Random Forest Classifier, Linear, and Discriminant Analysis. As a promising strategy to mitigate carbon emissions, hydrogen enrichment of conventional fuels is gaining increasing interest, but can lead to increased propensity to damaging thermoacoustic instability. This paper demonstrates the ability of machine learning algorithms to reliably predict a key flame behavior relevant to thermoacoustic stability prediction – the flame's nonlinear response to upstream acoustic forcing. Using computational simulations of a laminar premixed flame under difference hydrogen enrichment and equivalence ratio conditions, training data for machine learning are generated. The machine learning models are then used to predict the flame response under new test conditions, including extrapolating into new hydrogen enrichment regimes. The effect of algorithm choice, data structure, data size, and extrapolation distance on the performance of different machine learning models is investigated with particular attention to performance with sparse training data. It is found that a type of neural network known as the multi-layer perceptron (MLP) model outperforms the Gaussian process and random forest models in both interpolation and extrapolation tasks. A physics-informed preprocessing strategy, involving extracting the time delay of the flame response (which can be deduced from geometry and flow parameters) prior to applying machine learning, is found to remarkably improve the accuracy of machine learning models, especially in extrapolation tasks. When the extrapolation into new hydrogen content levels is strong enough, the MLP model no longer performs well. However, for small and intermediate extrapolation, the MLP model shows a commendable level of prediction, even with small data sets, fulfilling needs relevant to thermoacoustic stability prediction. Previous research has explored the relationship between climate and external forcings such as solar activity and GCR. To establish a predictive model for prostate cancer bone metastasis utilizing multiple machine learning algorithms. Retrospective analysis of the clinical data of prostate cancer initially diagnosed in the Department of Urology of Gansu Provincial People's Hospital from June 2017 to June 2022. Logistic regression (LR) and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) are used to jointly screen the model features. The filtered features are incorporated into algorithms including LR, random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), naive Bayes (NB), k-nearest neighbor (KNN), and decision tree (DT), to develop prostate cancer bone metastasis models. A total of 404 patients were finally screened. Gleason score, T stage, N stage, PSA, and ALP were used as features for modeling. The average AUC of the 5-fold cross-validation for each machine learning model in the training set is as follows: LR (AUC = 0.9054), RF (AUC = 0.9032), NB (AUC = 0.8961), KNN (AUC = 0.8704), DT (AUC = 0.8526), XGBoost (AUC = 0.8066). The AUC of each machine learning model in the test set is KNN (AUC = 0.9390, 95%CI: 0.8760-1), RF (AUC = 0.9290, 95%CI: 0.8718-0.9861), NB (AUC = 0.9268, 95%CI: 0.8615-0.9920), LR (AUC = 0.9212, 95%CI: 0.8506-0.9917), XGBoost (AUC = 0.8292, 95%CI: 0.7442-0.9141), DT (AUC = 0.8057, 95%CI: 0.7100-0.9014). A comprehensive evaluation showed that LR performed well in interpretability and clinical applications. Current guidelines recommend use of adjuvant imatinib therapy for many patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs); however, its optimal treatment duration is unknown and some patient groups do not benefit from the therapy. We aimed to apply state-of-the-art, interpretable artificial intelligence (ie, predictions or prescription logic that can be easily understood) methods on real-world data to establish which groups of patients with GISTs should receive adjuvant imatinib, its optimal treatment duration, and the benefits conferred by this therapy. In this observational cohort study, we considered for inclusion all patients who underwent resection of primary, non-metastatic GISTs at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC; New York, NY, USA) between Oct 1, 1982, and Dec 31, 2017, and who were classified as intermediate or high risk according to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Miettinen criteria and had complete follow-up data with no missing entries. A counterfactual random forest model, which used predictors of recurrence (mitotic count, tumour size, and tumour site) and imatinib duration to infer the probability of recurrence at 7 years for a given patient under each duration of imatinib treatment, was trained in the MSKCC cohort. Optimal policy trees (OPTs), a state-of-the-art interpretable AI-based method, were used to read the counterfactual random forest model by training a decision tree with the counterfactual predictions. The OPT recommendations were externally validated in two cohorts of patients from Poland (the Polish Clinical GIST Registry), who underwent GIST resection between Dec 1, 1981, and Dec 31, 2011, and from Spain (the Spanish Group for Research in Sarcomas), who underwent resection between Oct 1, 1987, and Jan 30, 2011. Among 1007 patients who underwent GIST surgery in MSKCC, 117 were included in the internal cohort; for the external cohorts, the Polish cohort comprised 363 patients and the Spanish cohort comprised 239 patients. The OPT did not recommend imatinib for patients with GISTs of gastric origin measuring less than 15·9 cm with a mitotic count of less than 11·5 mitoses per 5 mm2 or for those with small GISTs (<5·4 cm) of any site with a count of less than 11·5 mitoses per 5 mm2. In this cohort, the OPT cutoffs had a sensitivity of 92·7% (95% CI 82·4–98·0) and a specificity of 33·9% (22·3–47·0). The application of these cutoffs in the two external cohorts would have spared 38 (29%) of 131 patients in the Spanish cohort and 44 (35%) of 126 patients in the Polish cohort from unnecessary treatment with imatinib. Meanwhile, the risk of undertreating patients in these cohorts was minimal (sensitivity 95·4% [95% CI 89·5–98·5] in the Spanish cohort and 92·4% [88·3–95·4] in the Polish cohort). The OPT tested 33 different durations of imatinib treatment (<5 years) and found that 5 years of treatment conferred the most benefit. If the identified patient subgroups were applied in clinical practice, as many as a third of the current cohort of candidates who do not benefit from adjuvant imatinib would be encouraged to not receive imatinib, subsequently avoiding unnecessary toxicity on patients and financial strain on health-care systems. Our finding that 5 years is the optimal duration of imatinib treatment could be the best source of evidence to inform clinical practice until 2028, when a randomised controlled trial with the same aims is expected to report its findings. In recent years, machine learning (ML) algorithms have gained substantial recognition for ecological modeling across various temporal and spatial scales. However, little evaluation has been conducted for the prediction of soil organic carbon (SOC) on small data sets commonly inherent to long-term soil ecological research. In this context, the performance of ML algorithms for SOC prediction has never been tested against traditional process-based modeling approaches. Here, we compare ML algorithms, calibrated and uncalibrated process-based models as well as multiple ensembles on their performance in predicting SOC using data from five long-term experimental sites (comprising 256 independent data points) in Austria. Using all available data, the ML-based approaches using Random forest and Support vector machines with a polynomial kernel were superior to all process-based models. However, the ML algorithms performed similar or worse when the number of training samples was reduced or when a leave-one-site-out cross validation was applied. This emphasizes that the performance of ML algorithms is strongly dependent on the data-size related quality of learning information following the well-known curse of dimensionality phenomenon, while the accuracy of process-based models significantly relies on proper calibration and combination of different modeling approaches. Our study thus suggests a superiority of ML-based SOC prediction at scales where larger datasets are available, while process-based models are superior tools when targeting the exploration of underlying biophysical and biochemical mechanisms of SOC dynamics in soils. The Metrisor device has been developed using gas sensors for rapid, highly accurate and effective diagnosis of metritis. 513 cattle uteri were collected from abattoirs and swabs were taken for microbiological testing. The Metrisor device was used to measure intrauterine gases. The results showed a bacterial growth rate of 75.75 % in uteri with clinical metritis. In uteri positive for clinical metritis, the most commonly isolated and identified bacteria were Trueperella pyogenes , Fusobacterium necrophorum and Escherichia coli. Measurements taken with Metrisor to determine the presence of metritis in the uterus yielded the most successful results in evaluations of relevant machine learning algorithms. The ICO (Iterative Classifier Optimizer) algorithm achieved 71.22 % accuracy, 64.40 % precision and 71.20 % recall. Experiments were conducted to examine bacterial growth in the uterus and the random forest algorithm produced the most successful results with accuracy, precision and recall values of 78.16 %, 75.30 % and 78.20 % respectively. ICO also showed high performance in experiments to determine bacterial growth in metritis-positive uteri, with accuracy, precision and recall values of 78.97 %, 77.20 % and 79.00 %, respectively. In conclusion, the Metrisor device demonstrated high accuracy in detecting metritis and bacterial growth in uteri and could identify bacteria such as E. coli , S. aureus , coagulase-negative staphylococci, T. pyogenes , Bacillus spp., Clostridium spp. and F. necrophorum with rates up to 80 %. Land surface temperature (LST) plays a crucial role in characterizing land surface processes and the energy balance. Accurate monitoring of spatial–temporal variations in LST holds great significance for global and regional climate change research. However, with the increasing of multi-source remote sensing data, it has become a challenging task to construct an LST model that reduces dependence on auxiliary data (such as land surface emissivity (LSE) and atmospheric water vapor content (WVC) synchronized with satellite observations. This study proposed an LST retrieval model based on random forest model (RFLSTR). The results of 10-fold cross-validation showed that the RFLSTR model had high modelling accuracy, the root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) were lower than 2 K. Landsat 8 images from the Beijing area and South Korea, were utilized to assess the spatial–temporal migration performance of the RFLSTR model. Additionally, Landsat 9 images from South Korea were employed to analyse the sensor migration performance of the RFLSTR model. In conclusion, the findings highlight that the proposed RFLSTR model achieve high retrieval accuracy without relying on auxiliary data (such as LSE and WVC) synchronized with satellite observations. Bianfudong (pinyin for Bat Cave) is a paleolithic site that was recently discovered in Heqing, Yunnan in southwestern China. Several hominin fossils, stone artifacts and more than 69,000 mammal fossils were unearthed in 2019. The hominin fossils and stone artifacts were excavated from the upper part (layers 1–12) of the section with an age range of 180–70 ka BP. Some large mammal fossils and micromammalian remains were collected from the lower part of the section (layers 22–30), which has an age >180 ka BP. This paper describes the micromammalian fossils collected from layers 25–30 and analyzes the fauna composition and paleohabitats. A total of 638 micromammal specimens represent 12 species, including 11 extant species i.e. Euroscaptor longirostris , Blarinella wardi , Anourosorex squamipes , Crocidura vorax , Eothenomys (Anteliomys) chinensis , E. (A.) proditor , Apodemus chevrieri , Ap. draco , Ap. latronum , Micromys minutus , and Niviventer confucianus , and one extinct species Anourosorex qianensis. The two arvicolid Eothenomys species dominate, both in the number of identified specimens and the minimum number of individuals. The composition of the Bianfudong micromammalian fauna can be compared with the faunas of Sanjiacun in Chenggong of Yunnan Province, Mawokoudong in Bijie and Xinglongdong in Fengjie, Guizhou Province. Using the random forest model with modern meteorological data, we calculated the mean annual precipitation (MAP) and the mean annual temperature (MAT) for all 11 living species in the Bianfudong. The MAP was inferred as 1008.04 mm, close to modern data in the Heqing area, while the MAT was slightly lower at 12.84 °C. With the increase in extreme climatic events globally in recent years, the increased frequency of flood hazards has had a great impact on immovable cultural heritage sites (ICHs) due to their prolonged exposure to the disaster environment. This poses a risk management challenge, especially on large scales. Most existing flood risk assessment models for ICHs are determined using common natural hazard methods directly and focus less on the characteristics of ICHs. In this paper, we propose a modified geographical weighted regression (MGWR) model to assess flood risk at ICHs, and this model considers the spatial and age properties of the ICHs. These two properties were used for the construction of the weight matrix in the MGWR model. Eleven selected indices and loss survey data with 417 sample points, including 5 types of ICHs, were utilized for model training and testing in Shanxi Province, China. The results showed that the MGWR model had good accuracy with an R2 of 0.928. A comparison between the MGWR and normal GWR models indicated that the accuracies of the older ICHs improved more in the MGWR than in the GWR. We also found that the proposed model performed better than the normal GWR model using age as an index. Moreover, in comparison with three machine learning methods (decision tree, logistic regression, and random forest), the MGWR model still performed better and was less limited by the number of training samples. This paper provides evidence that the characteristics of ICHs are crucial in the construction of flood risk assessment models, and the proposed model can benefit the risk management of various types of ICHs at large spatial scales. Most patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) have somatic symptoms, but little studies pay attention in the microbial-inflammatory mechanisms of these somatic symptoms. Our study aimed to investigate alterations in gut microbiota and its correlation with inflammatory marker levels and somatic symptoms in first-episode treatment-naive MDD. Subjects contained 160 MDD patients and 101 healthy controls (HCs). MDD patients were divided into MDD with somatic symptoms group (MDD S) and MDD without somatic symptoms group (MDD N) based on Somatic Self-rating Scale (SSS). 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing were performed to analyze the composition of the fecal microbiota. The inflammatory factors were measured using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Correlation among the altered gut microbiota, inflammatory factor and severity of clinical symptoms were analysized. Relative to HCs, MDD patients had higher levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) as well as disordered α-diversity and β-diversity of gut microbiota. Linear discriminant effect size (LEfSe) analysis showed that MDD patients had higher proportions of Bifidobacterium, Blautia, Haemophilus and lower proportions of Bacteroides, Faecalibacterium, Roseburia, Dialister, Sutterella, Parabacteroides, Bordetella, and Phascolarctobacterium from the genus aspect. Furthermore, correlation analysis showed Bacteroides and Roseburia had negative correlations with the hs-CRP, HAMD-24, the total and factor scores of SSS in all participants. Further, compared with MDD N, the Pielous evenness was higher in MDD S. Random Forest (RF) analysis showed 20 most important genera discriminating MDD-S and MDD N, HCs. The ROC analysis showed that the AUC was 0.90 and 0.81 combining these genera respectively. Our study manifested MDD patients showed disordered gut microbiota and elevated hs-CRP levels, and altered gut microbiota was closely associated with hs-CRP, depressive symptoms, and somatic symptoms. To use self-reported preconception data to derive models that predict the risk of miscarriage. Prospective preconception cohort study. Not applicable. Study participants were female, aged 21–45 years, residents of the United States or Canada, and attempting spontaneous pregnancy at enrollment during 2013–2022. Participants were followed for up to 12 months of pregnancy attempts; those who conceived were followed through pregnancy and postpartum. We restricted analyses to participants who conceived during the study period. On baseline and follow-up questionnaires completed every 8 weeks until pregnancy, we collected self-reported data on sociodemographic factors, reproductive history, lifestyle, anthropometrics, diet, medical history, and male partner characteristics. We included 160 potential predictor variables in our models. The primary outcome was a miscarriage, defined as pregnancy loss before 20 weeks of gestation. We followed participants from their first positive pregnancy test until miscarriage or a censoring event (induced abortion, ectopic pregnancy, loss of follow-up, or 20 weeks of gestation), whichever occurred first. We fit both survival and static models using Cox proportional hazards models, logistic regression, support vector machines, gradient-boosted trees, and random forest algorithms. We evaluated model performance using the concordance index (survival models) and the weighted F1 score (static models). Among the 8,720 participants who conceived, 20.4% reported miscarriage. In multivariable models, the strongest predictors of miscarriage were female age, history of miscarriage, and male partner age. The weighted F1 score ranged from 73%–89% for static models and the concordance index ranged from 53%–56% for survival models, indicating better discrimination for the static models compared with the survival models (i.e., the ability of the model to discriminate between individuals with and without miscarriage). No appreciable differences were observed across strata of miscarriage history or among models restricted to ≥8 weeks of gestation. Our findings suggest that miscarriage is not easily predicted on the basis of preconception lifestyle characteristics and that advancing age and a history of miscarriage are the most important predictors of incident miscarriage. To properly treat and care for hepatic cystic echinococcosis (HCE), it is essential to make an accurate diagnosis before treatment. The objective of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of computer-aided diagnosis techniques in classifying HCE ultrasound images into five subtypes. A total of 1820 HCE ultrasound images collected from 967 patients were included in the study. A multi-kernel learning method was developed to learn the texture and depth features of the ultrasound images. Combined kernel functions were built-in Support Vector Machine (MK-SVM) for the classification work. The experimental results were evaluated using five-fold cross-validation. Finally, our approach was compared with three other machine learning algorithms: the decision tree classifier, random forest, and gradient boosting decision tree. Among all the methods used in the study, the MK-SVM achieved the highest accuracy of 96.6% on the fused feature set. The multi-kernel learning method effectively learns different image features from ultrasound images by utilizing various kernels. Machine learning models are widely used for landslide susceptibility prediction (LSP). To better develop a landslide susceptibility prediction model for the Loess Plateau, this study compared different machine-learning models (Logistic regression (LR), support vector machines (SVM), random forests (RF), Naïve Bayes (NB), and multilayer perceptron (MLP)). Using Xunyi County, China as the study area, 1096 landslides were collected and divided into a training set (70%) and a test set (30%). Significant influencing factors were selected from 20 landslide factors using GeoDetector. The relationships between these factors and landslides were determined by normalized frequency ratios. Five trained machine learning models calculated landslide susceptibility indices and generated landslide susceptibility maps. Additionally, the accuracy (ACC), precision (PRE), recall (REC), F1 score, AUC values, LSI distribution characteristics, and overlay analysis of historical landslides with LSM were used to evaluate the performance of the models. The results show that the LSP results of the five models are generally reasonable. The results further indicated that the use of GeoDetector was able to filter out the main factors of eolian landslides, improving the predictive performance of the model and obtaining better LSMs. The RF model had the best overall performance, followed by the SVM, and the MLP model created LSM high susceptibility zones that could contain the highest number of historical landslides. The q-values of factor contributions indicate that elevation, NDVI, rainfall, POI kernel density, and RDLS are the main factors controlling landslides, which need to be paid attention to for landslide control in the Loess Plateau region. The results of this study can provide a reference for the follow-up study of landslide prevention and control, especially landslide susceptibility modeling in the Loess Plateau. In this study, we employ a Random Forest approach to estimate sea ice thickness (SIT) using Fengyun-3E (FY-3E) and Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) data. This method relies on four input parameters: incidence angle (θ), reflectivity (Γ), sea ice salinity (S), and sea ice temperature (T). In addition, FY-3E can receive both Global Positioning System (GPS) and Beidou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) reflected signals. Evaluation for the Arctic region based on data spanning from October 2022 to April 2023 reveals that the proposed models trained on GPS and BDS signals from FY-3E achieve high consistency and low error. Take GPS signals as an example, coefficients of determination are 0.97 and 0.91 and mean absolute errors are 0.019 m and 0.032 m for the training and test sets, respectively. In general, SIT inversion based on GPS signals slightly exhibits a higher accuracy than that based on BDS signals, but both approaches display high performances. The areas with the highest accuracy of SIT estimation based on GPS and BDS signals are the Shelikhov Bay and the Okhotsk Sea, followed by the Bering Sea and the Bering Strait. Soil moisture (SM) plays a critical role in the growth and management of grain in semi-humid regions. However, little is known about how to integrate satellite data with machine learning to accurately retrieve SM information in these areas. This study compares the capability of three machine learning algorithms, Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN), to extract SM information over the Northwest Shandong Plain using multi-phase dual-polarized Sentinel-1A satellite data. The backscattering coefficients were obtained through standard intensity and phase processing to calculate the SAR indices, and several characteristic parameters were extracted as impact factors using the Cloude-Pottier decomposition. The importance of these factors was analyzed, while the performance of each machine learning algorithm was comprehensively evaluated using the K-fold cross-validation method. The best-performing model was utilized to retrieve the spatio-temporal changes in SM in the study area. The findings indicate the following: (1) The first eigenvalue has the greatest impact on retrieval accuracy, followed by entropy, where the intensity component of Shannon's entropy is more important than its polarization component; (2) The addition of more impact factors does not bring a continuous improvement in model performance, but the optimal factor combinations differ for different machine learning retrieval models; (3) The RF model trained using the IM12 combination demonstrates better performance than SVM and ANN in retrieving SM information, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.55 and a root mean square error of 6.12 vol% on the validation set. The level of SM in the Yellow River National Wetland Park is higher than that of the surrounding areas, with substantial seasonal changes. Areal statistics and annual change rate were considered to analyze the categorical land use change detection. Statistical measures such as user's accuracy, producer's accuracy, kappa coefficient, and confusion matrix were employed to assess the accuracy of LULC classification. To predict future LULC and simulate the spatio-temporal change, we considered previous year LULC maps, independent spatial variables and a combined artificial neural network (ANN) multi-layer perceptron approach. The analysis revealed that there was a huge transition from agricultural lands to residential land with industry and commerce which resulting an expansion of impervious lands and a rapid decline of agricultural land as well as of scrub land and barren lands, and a changeability of forest and plantation, croplands, and waterbodies. Many patients pursue attractive smiles, and surgical-orthodontic treatment is a common method. We aimed to analyze the changes in smile parameters after surgical-orthodontic treatment in patients with skeletal Class III pattern and identify factors influencing postoperative outcomes. This retrospective study comprised 34 patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion and pure mandible prognathism who received surgical-orthodontic treatment. Hard and soft tissue parameters were assessed through lateral cephalometry, and smile esthetics were evaluated through extraoral photography. Postoperative changes in smile parameters and between-parameter correlations were analyzed. Random forest and decision tree deep learning models were used to identify factors influencing postoperative changes. Substantial postoperative changes were observed in the buccal corridor, upper lip height, and smile index. Significant between-sex differences were noted in the upper midline and right chelion. Strong, positive correlations were found between upper lip height and upper lip ratio and between lower lip height and lower lip ratio. By contrast, strong negative correlations were observed between lower teeth exposure and smile index and between interlabial gap and smile index. The highest degrees of postoperative changes were noted in asymmetry-associated smile parameters: lower lip area, interlabial gap, smile index, buccal corridor, and arc ratio. Considerable changes were noted in skeletal, dental, and soft tissue parameters after surgical-orthodontic treatment. However, the changes in smile esthetics were less prominent from the frontal view. Methane catalytic pyrolysis presents a promising avenue for producing CO 2 -free hydrogen. However, optimizing catalyst composition and process parameters through experimental studies has been resource-intensive. Machine learning techniques have been increasingly utilized to deepen the understanding of process mechanisms. In this study, machine learning models were developed to deepen the understanding of the effects of process control and catalyst design on CH 4 conversion performance. The optimal CH 4 conversion model achieved a testing R2 of 0.9999. The escalating consumption of fossil fuels has given rise to a substantial upsurge in greenhouse gas concentrations and global temperatures, which, in turn, has triggered severe climate-related consequences. The critical imperative to reduce CO 2 emissions and combat global warming has spurred extensive investigations into clean energy alternatives, with hydrogen emerging as a compelling zero-emission energy source. As a pivotal component of clean energy strategies, hydrogen requires designing compact, lightweight, and efficient storage systems. This study focuses on the development and evaluation of machine learning models for predicting the efficiency of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) in hydrogen storage, a key aspect of advancing clean energy technologies. MOFs, a class of nanoporous materials, show remarkable potential for hydrogen storage due to their high surface area and porosity. However, selecting the most suitable MOF for this application from a vast array of possible structures is a daunting task. In this context, machine learning algorithms offer an efficient alternative for predicting MOF suitability by considering their structural and chemical properties. We used ensemble learning methods, specifically Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) and Random Forest (RF), to predict hydrogen uptake of MOFs based on a dataset of 219 experimentally tested samples. Two modeling scenarios were considered: one using the entire dataset, and the other involving strategic data pre-processing, including outlier removal and feature engineering. The results demonstrate that the measures taken to refine the dataset significantly enhance the predictive performance of the developed models, reducing prediction errors and improving overall goodness of fit. Specifically, the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) values for both the LightGBM and random forest models were reduced from 0.48 and 0.94, respectively, to 0.16 for both models, and the coefficients of determination (R2) increased substantially from 0.84 and 0.72 to 0.95, in both cases. Moreover, feature importance analysis unveiled that pressure-related features make the most significant contributions to the formation of tree ensembles during the model training process. A parametric sensitivity analysis was conducted revealing that H 2 uptake in MOFs is most sensitive to changes in adsorption enthalpy, followed by surface area and temperature, while showing lower sensitivity to variations in pressure, consistent with established literature. • Auto-encoder-enhanced Random Forest models with network biomarkers accurately predict IgAN prognosis. • Personalized IgAN treatment guidance system developed using network biomarkers. • System's performance on par with nephrologists, improving healthcare decision-making. The ongoing debate surrounding the use of immunosuppressive treatments for IgA nephropathy (IgAN) underscores the demand for personalized and effective strategies. Analyzed data from 807 IgAN patients over 5+ years using three methods: Random Forest with molecular biomarkers, network biomarkers with graph engineering, and an auto-encoder model. All models were trained using identical demographic, clinical, and pathological data, employing an 80–20 split for training and testing purposes. In the comprehensive assessment of IgAN prognosis, the Random Forest model, employing molecular biomarkers, demonstrated strong performance metrics (AUC = 0.83, sensitivity = 0.51, specificity = 0.96). However, traditional graph feature engineering on patient-specific networks outperformed these results with an AUC of 0.90, sensitivity of 0.64, and specificity of 0.94. The Auto-encoder model showed the best accuracy (AUC = 0.91, sensitivity = 0.46, specificity = 0.96). The findings highlighted the superior predictive capabilities of network biomarkers over molecular biomarkers for adverse renal outcome prediction in IgAN. Consequently, we integrated Auto-encoder-derived Network Biomarkers with Random Forest Models to enhance prognostic precision in diverse IgAN treatment scenarios. The prediction for the prognosis of patients receiving supportive care, glucocorticoid therapy, and immunosuppressant treatment yielded AUC values of 0.95, 0.96, and 1, respectively, indicating high specificity. Drawing from these insights, we pioneered the development of an innovative decision support model for IgAN treatment. This model demonstrated the ability to make medical decisions comparable to those by experienced nephrologists, enabling the customization of personalized disease management strategies. The dynamic and hierarchical nature of the functional brain network. The neural dynamical systems tend to converge to multiple attractors (stable fixed points or dynamical states) in long run. Little is known about how the changes in this brain dynamic "long-term" behavior of the connectivity flow of brain network in generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). This study recruited 92 patients with GAD and 77 healthy controls (HC). We applied a reachable probability approach combining a Non-homogeneous Markov model with transition probability to quantify all possible connectivity flows and the hierarchical structure of brain functional systems at the dynamic level and the stationary probability vector (10-step transition probabilities) to describe the steady state of the system in the long run. A random forest algorithm was conducted to predict the severity of anxiety. The dynamic functional patterns in distributed brain networks had larger possibility to converge in bilateral thalamus, posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), right superior occipital gyrus (SOG) and smaller possibility to converge in bilateral superior temporal gyrus (STG) and right parahippocampal gyrus (PHG) in patients with GAD compared to HC. The abnormal transition probability pattern could predict anxiety severity in patients with GAD. Small samples and subjects taking medications may have influenced our results. Future studies are expected to rule out the potential confounding effects. Hydrogen, as a clean and versatile energy carrier, plays a pivotal role in addressing global energy challenges and transitioning towards sustainable energy systems. This study explores the convergence of machine learning (ML) for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from sucrose solution using perovskite-type catalysts, namely LaFeO 3 (LFO) and graphene-supported LaFeO 3 (GLFO). This study pioneers the practical application of ML techniques, including Random Forests, LightGBM, and Bagging Regressor, to predict hydrogen yields in the presence of these photocatalysts. LFO and GLFO underwent a thorough characterization study to validate their successful preparation. Noteworthy, the highest hydrogen yield from the sucrose model solution was achieved using GLFO as 3.52 mmol/g cat. The optimum reaction conditions were experimentally found to be pH = 5.25, 0.15 g/L of catalyst amount, and 7.5 mM of HPC (hydrogen peroxide concentration). A pivotal contribution of this research lies in the practical application of ML models, culminating in the development of an ensemble model. This collaborative approach not only achieved an overall R2 of 0.92 but also demonstrated exceptional precision, as reflected in remarkably low error metrics. Machine learning classifiers have been widely used for crop mapping; however, employing numerous features can reduce classifier accuracy. Feature selection is a widely recognized technique that addresses the issue of high dimensionality by choosing the most relevant subset of features with the highest degree of relevance and practicality. Therefore, the optimal combination of feature selection methods and classifiers for high-precision crop mapping remains an open problem. In this study, we introduce a novel hybrid feature selection approach to obtain the optimal subset of features for effective crop mapping. Initially, spectro-temporal remote sensing features from the dataset were ranked using two distinct feature selection techniques: Mutual Information (MI) and ReliefF filter. The most relevant features from each filter-based approach were combined into a union subset. Subsequently, the Gray Wolf Optimization (GWO), a metaheuristic optimization technique, was applied to enhance the feature set generated in the initial step. In the final stage, a random forest classifier leveraged the optimized feature subset for accurate crop type prediction. The effectiveness of the proposed approach was evaluated in Behiera governorate, Egypt. Comparative analysis against existing crop mapping methods demonstrated the superior performance of the proposed approach, achieving an accuracy rate of 82%. In this direction, the present study proposed a hybrid deep-learning method based on Conv-1D and LSTM layers using the classification-derived phenological with meteorological parameters for paddy crop yield prediction. The paddy crop classification has been conducted using high-resolution (10 m) multispectral imagery based on GPS coordinates collected during the paddy field visits to extract the phenological parameters for input to the prediction model. In this context, the efficiency of Random Forest, Naïve Bayes, SVM, and Gradient Tree boost classifiers was assessed. Furthermore, we have also analyzed the accuracy of Landsat-8, Sentinel-1 GRD, and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery in paddy crop classification based on area estimation. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of Leaf Area Index (LAI) estimation using three distinct sources of satellite data: Sentinel-2 imagery, drone imagery (UAVs), and Mohammed VI satellite data. The main objective was to identify the most reliable and precise dataset for predicting LAI, with a focus on evaluating the performance of Random Forest models. For Sentinel-2 imagery, our Random Forest model achieves a robust R-squared (R2) value of 0.89, signifying a strong alignment between predicted and measured LAI values. The associated root-mean-square error (RMSE) is 0.4, indicating high predictive accuracy. In the context of UAVs, our Random Forest model excels, exhibiting an impressive R2 value of 0.93, highlighting a substantial correlation between predicted and measured LAI. The RMSE for drone imagery stands at 0.37, showcasing exceptional predictive accuracy. Finally, the Random Forest model trained on Mohammed VI satellite data yields an R2 value of 0.92, underlining its strong fit with measured LAI values. Nowadays, the monitoring systems embedded with diverse sensors within the Internet of Things play an important role in how we collect data and provide in-depth insights into human behavior, environmental trends, and different industrial processes. These sensors can gather data in real-time and due to their ability to connect through various communication interfaces, it is possible to integrate such devices into existing networks ensuring that data can be transmitted in real-time to central systems or mobile devices. However, many factors such as connectivity issues, severe weather, and sensor faults, might cause missing data, thus leading to poor decision-making. In this study, an in-depth analysis was performed on environmental meteorological data collected from May 2022 to March 2023 in the East Kazakhstan region using Vaisala WXT536 multi-parameter weather sensor. The data restoration strategy that is based on the duration of data gaps is evaluated. For short-term gaps under 30 minutes in duration, the mean and median imputation achieved higher results with a root mean squared error of 0.25 for temperature than training Random Forest algorithm which achieved 3.59, while for the extended periods of missing values, the Long Short-Term Memory model was utilized with 2.47 for the temperature. The main goal of the research is to analyze the temporal patterns of missing data and potential reasons for these failures as well as to evaluate the data restoration strategies. One of the most dangerous threats in WSNs is botnet attacks, in which attackers use mutual communications between IoT devices to launch large-scale malicious activities. In this regard, developments in the field of effective and reliable means of defence against this type of threat, in particular, reliable methods for detecting, identifying, and countering botnet attacks, are becoming increasingly important and relevant. This paper presents a comprehensive study that applies machine learning techniques, namely Random Forest and XGBoost, to identify botnet attacks on IoT effectively. These algorithms are analyzed, compared, and shown to be highly effective in detecting complex patterns indicative of botnet activity, thus achieving a significant improvement in IoT security. The conducted research aims to make a useful contribution to the problem of securing WSNs and IoT in general. The results of the study demonstrated high accuracy in detecting attacks with an accuracy of 99.18% for XGBoost and Random Forest showed an accuracy of 99.21%. Thus, it was shown that the significance of applying machine learning techniques such as Random Forest and XGBoost can be one of the key approaches in combating botnet attacks and securing the IoT. This study focuses on enhancing DoS attack detection in IoT systems through a Machine Learning approach that combines class balancing, feature selection, and optimized classifiers. Utilizing the Edge IIoT dataset, we applied SMOTE and Random Un-dersampling for class balance and employed DNN, Random Forest, and PCA for feature selection. We evaluated six technique combinations across four classifiers (DNN, SVM, XGBoost, and Random Forest), finding that certain combinations notably improve detection efficiency and accuracy. This research contributes to IoT security by offering an effective methodology for DoS attack detection, setting a foundation for further advances in IoT system protection against security threats. In this work, we classified the wireless internet of things (IoT) traffic of the IoT Health intensive care unit (IHI) dataset which belongs to three general classes: patient monitoring, environment monitoring, and network attack. We trained and tested 7 machine learning (ML) models with Orange 3 including kNN, Decision Tree (tree), SVM, Random Forest (RF), Neural Network (NN), Gradient Boosting (GB), and AdaBoost (AB). With the original dataset, 5 ML models performed perfect classification. After pruning the dataset columns by keeping the features with the highest correlations with the label in the dataset, good classifications were obtained with only 4 TCP/IP features by the Gradient Boosting, kNN, and RF models with MSEs in the range 0.008-0.011, and R2s in the range 0.978-0.984. With only 6 MQTT features, Gradient Boosting, RF, Tree, and NN were the top classifiers with MSEs in the range 0.073-0.074, and R2s in the range 0.856-0.859. This work demonstrates the effectiveness of guiding the feature pruning process by the values of the correlation coefficients in order to minimize the long training times of ML models while achieving good accuracies. In light of the extensive contamination of water sources by microplastics, their substantial specific surface area makes them favorable candidates as adsorbents for the simultaneous removal of coexisting contaminants in wastewater. In this regard, polyethylene microplastics were utilized to eliminate methylene blue dye from water. MB adsorption onto microplastics reached equilibrium in just 30 min at pH 7. The better fit of fractional power and Redlich-Peterson models on kinetic and equilibrium adsorption data, respectively, revealed that the MB removal process is a chemisorption in multilayer adsorption on the heterogeneous surface of the microplastics particles. The reusability of the microplastics adsorbent was confirmed based on the promising outcomes observed after five cycles. The results of the random forest regression exhibited an R2 of 97.55% for the correlation between the model-computed and measured amounts of MB reduction. The sensitivity analysis illustrated that the MB sorption process on microplastics is highly influenced by the initial MB concentration and adsorbent mass. These results show that although microplastics may pose potential risks to water environments, their adsorption potential can be utilized to simultaneously omit other pollutants from the aqueous solutions. • Our random forest quantitative EEG (qEEG) classifier could classify delirium versus no delirium with an AUC of 0.76. • The most important delirium classification features were: theta peak frequency, relative alpha power and theta autocorrelation. • There was no evidence that qEEG features differed between postoperative and non-postoperative delirium. This exploratory study examined quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) changes in delirium and the use of qEEG features to distinguish postoperative from non-postoperative delirium. This project was part of the DeltaStudy, a cross-sectional, multicenter study in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and non-ICU wards. Single-channel (Fp2-Pz) four-minutes resting-state EEG was analyzed in 456 patients. After calculating 98 qEEG features per epoch, random forest (RF) classification was used to analyze qEEG changes in delirium and to test whether postoperative and non-postoperative delirium could be distinguished. An area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.76 (95% Confidence Interval (CI) 0.71–0.80) was found when classifying delirium with a sensitivity of 0.77 and a specificity of 0.63 at the optimal operating point. The classification of postoperative versus non-postoperative delirium resulted in an AUC of 0.50 (95%CI 0.38–0.61). RF classification was able to discriminate delirium from no delirium with reasonable accuracy, while also identifying new delirium qEEG markers like autocorrelation and theta peak frequency. RF classification could not distinguish postoperative from non-postoperative delirium. Single-channel EEG differentiates between delirium and no delirium with reasonable accuracy. Cognitive deficits are a core symptom of schizophrenia, but research on their neural underpinnings has been challenged by the heterogeneity in deficits' severity among patients. Here, we address this issue by combining logistic regression and random forest to classify two neuropsychological profiles of patients with high (HighCog) and low (LowCog) cognitive performance in two independent samples. We based our analysis on the cortical features grey matter volume (VOL), cortical thickness (CT), and mean curvature (MC) of N = 57 patients (discovery sample) and validated the classification in an independent sample (N = 52). We investigated which cortical feature would yield the best classification results and expected that the 10 most important features would include frontal and temporal brain regions. The model based on MC had the best performance with area under the curve (AUC) values of 76% and 73%, and identified fronto-temporal and occipital brain regions as the most important features for the classification. Moreover, subsequent comparison analyses could reveal significant differences in MC of single brain regions between the two cognitive profiles. Adolescent non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a major public health issue. Family factors are significantly associated with NSSI in adolescents, while studies on forecasting NSSI at the family level are still limited. In addition to regression methods, machine learning (ML) techniques have been recommended to improve the accuracy of family-level risk prediction for NSSI. Using a dataset of 7967 students and their primary caregivers from a cross-sectional study, logistic regression model and random forest model were used to test the forecasting accuracy of NSSI predictions at the family level. Cross-validation was used to assess model prediction performance, including the area under the receiver operator curve (AUC), precision, Brier score, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value. The top three important family-related predictors within the random forest algorithm included family function (importance:42.66), family conflict (importance:42.18), and parental depression (importance:27.21). The most significant family-related risk predictors and protective predictors identified by the logistic regression model were family history of mental illness (OR:2.25) and help-seeking behaviors of mental distress from parents (OR:0.65), respectively. The AUCs of the two models, logistic regression and random forest, were 0.852 and 0.835, respectively. The key limitation is that this cross-sectional survey only enabled the authors to examine predictors that were considered to be proximal rather than distal. These findings highlight the significance of family-related factors in forecasting NSSI in adolescents. To predict renal tumour growth patterns in von Hippel–Lindau syndrome by utilising radiomic features to assist in developing personalised surveillance plans leading to better patient outcomes. The study evaluated 78 renal tumours in 55 patients with histopathologically-confirmed clear cell renal cell carcinomas (ccRCCs), which were segmented and radiomics were extracted. Volumetric doubling time (VDT) classified the tumours into fast-growing (VDT <365 days) or slow-growing (VDT ≥365 days). Volumetric and diametric growth analyses were compared between the groups. Multiple logistic regression and random forest classifiers were used to select the best features and models based on their correlation and predictability of VDT. Fifty-five patients (mean age 42.2 ± 12.2 years, 27 men) with a mean time difference of 3.8 ± 2 years between the baseline and preoperative scans were studied. Twenty-five tumours were fast-growing (low VDT, i.e., <365 days), and 53 tumours were slow-growing (high VDT, i.e., ≥365 days). The median volumetric and diametric growth rates were 1.71 cm3/year and 0.31 cm/year. The best feature using univariate analysis was wavelet-HLL_glcm_ldmn (area under the receiver operating characteristic [ROC] curve [AUC] of 0.80, p< 0.0001), and with the random forest classifier, it was log-sigma-0-5-mm-3D_glszm_ZonePercentage (AUC: 79). The AUC of the ROC curves using multiple logistic regression was 0.74, and with the random forest classifier was 0.73. Predictive models of psychotic symptoms could improve ecological momentary interventions by dynamically providing help when it is needed. Wearable sensors measuring autonomic arousal constitute a feasible base for predictive models since they passively collect physiological data linked to the onset of psychotic experiences. To explore this potential, we investigated whether changes in autonomic arousal predict the onset of hallucination spectrum experiences (HSE) and paranoia in individuals with an increased likelihood of experiencing psychotic symptoms. For 24 h of ambulatory assessment, 62 participants wore electrodermal activity and heart rate sensors and were provided with an Android smartphone to answer questions about their HSE-, and paranoia-levels every 20 min. We calculated random forests to detect the onset of HSEs and paranoia. The generalizability of our models was tested using leave-one-assessment-out and leave-one-person-out cross-validation. Leave-one-assessment-out models that relied on physiological data and participant ID yielded balanced accuracy scores of 80 % for HSE and 66 % for paranoia. Adding baseline information about lifetime experiences of psychotic symptoms increased balanced accuracy to 82 % (HSE) and 70 % (paranoia). Leave-one-person-out models yielded lower balanced accuracy scores (51 % to 58 %). Using passively collectible variables to predict the onset of psychotic experiences is possible and prediction models improve with additional information about lifetime experiences of psychotic symptoms. Generalizing to new individuals showed poor performance, so including personal data from a recipient may be necessary for symptom prediction. Clara cell 16-kDa protein (CC16) is an anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory secreted pulmonary protein with reduced serum concentrations in obesity according to recent data. Studies focused solely on bodyweight, which does not properly reflect obesity-associated implications of the metabolic and reno-cardio-vascular system. The purpose of this study was therefore to examine CC16 in a broad physiological context considering cardio-metabolic comorbidities of primary pulmonary diseases. CC16 was quantified in serum samples in a subset of the FoCus (N = 497) and two weight loss intervention cohorts (N = 99) using ELISA. Correlation and general linear regression analyses were applied to assess CC16 effects of lifestyle, gut microbiota, disease occurrence and treatment strategies. Importance and intercorrelation of determinants were validated using random forest algorithms. CC16 A38G gene mutation, smoking and low microbial diversity significantly decreased CC16. Pre-menopausal female displayed lower CC16 compared to post-menopausal female and male participants. Biological age and uricosuric medications increased CC16 (all p < 0.01). Adjusted linear regression revealed CC16 lowering effects of high waist-to-hip ratio (est. −11.19 [−19.4; −2.97], p = 7.99 × 10−3), severe obesity (est. −2.58 [−4.33; −0.82], p = 4.14 × 10−3) and hypertension (est. −4.31 [−7.5; −1.12], p = 8.48 × 10−3). ACEi/ARB medication (p = 2.5 × 10−2) and chronic heart failure (est. 4.69 [1.37; 8.02], p = 5.91 × 10−3) presented increasing effects on CC16. Mild associations of CC16 were observed with blood pressure, HOMA-IR and NT-proBNP, but not manifest hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes, diet quality and dietary weight loss intervention. A role of metabolic and cardiovascular abnormalities in the regulation of CC16 and its modifiability by behavioral and pharmacological interventions is indicated. Alterations by ACEi/ARB and uricosurics could point towards regulatory axes comprising the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and purine metabolism. The estimation of material performance plays a crucial role in practical life, enabling the rational allocation of time and resources while enhancing the practical application of materials. Therefore, this study investigates the analytical and predictive capabilities of five machine learning (ML) algorithms (the Random Forest algorithm – RF, the Adaboost algorithm – AB, the Gradient Boosting algorithm – GB, the Extra Trees algorithm – ET and linear models – LM) for comprehensive performance parameters of wood ceramics (ammonia nitrogen adsorption quantity - Q , open porosity - P , burn-off , and hardness). In the analysis of model prediction capabilities, five key statistical parameters (Root Mean Square Error - RMSE , Mean Square Error - MSE , Coefficient of Correlation - R , Determination Coefficient - R 2 , and Mean Absolute Relative Error - MARE) were calculated. The results indicate the following: (1) Among various ML models, the GB model exhibits the most superior performance with an R 2 ≥ 0.9594. (2) However, in predicting the four performance parameters of wood ceramics, the AB model with an R 2 ranging from 0.0078 to 0.45, indicating notably poor predictive capabilities. Despite integrating the Support Vector Regression (SVR) module, no enhancement in predictive accuracy was observed. (3) While forecasting the four performance parameters of wood ceramics, the LM model demonstrates predictive accuracy relatively akin to that of the RF and ET models among the ML models. (4) Though the feature importance scores vary across distinct input variable models, there is a consistent trend of change. (5) Variables B and D exhibit some level of correlation with other variables. In summary, the results of this study suggest that, for the analysis and prediction of wood ceramic performance, the GB model among the five regression models demonstrates outstanding simulation performance. Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases with multifactorial and non-infectious characteristics in their origin have been a matter of growing concern for society and governments, as they put people at greater risk of complications, disability, and death. They are the leading cause of death worldwide, i.e. a global threat to health. Modern medicine relies heavily on a variety of biochemical, behavioral, clinical, etc. data to advance the chronic diseases field. Machine learning techniques have a wide range of applications, for example for diabetes classifications, phenotypic resistance of whole genomic sequences and heart disease. These approaches, in general, concentrate efforts on a single Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases. Thus, identifying multiple chronic diseases simultaneously is an open challeng. Our study demonstrated that the intelligent risk prediction platform for non-communicable chronic diseases using Multi-Label Classification methods can be used to model multiple Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases. We use ensemble methods developed on top of algorithm adaptation techniques, including Random Forest, Extra Trees and Decision Tree Classifiers. Among the models in the experiment, the Random Forest achieved the best accuracy and F1-score performance with 96.16% and 90.48%, respectively. Our results suggest that the platform is promising and can be used to support medical teams in the early diagnosis of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases, allowing them to provide adequate treatment options to patients in a timely manner in primary care, as well as contributing to reducing the risk of complications, disability, and deaths by Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases. This paper describes a suggested prototype to carry out the automatic classification of requests from a Port Help Desk. It intents to ascertain if the implementation of this framework is viable for this sector. For this purpose different models were employed, such as SVM, Decision Tree, Random Forest, LSTM, BERT and a SVM hierarchical model. To verify their efficiency these models were evaluated using Precision, Recall and F1-Score metrics. We obtained F1-Scores of 94.36% and 92.48% when classifying the request's category and group respectively. Video consultations and telemedicine play a key role in healthcare. It is crucial to assist institutions in identifying which patients are more likely to use them, increasing the adoption rate. Even though Artificial Intelligence models are important, certain cases require a human centric approach to inform patients and doctors, ensuring trust in the tools provided. This can be achieved through interpretable Machine Learning models and Statistical Analysis. In this paper we show that even though the accuracy of the Machine Learning models used (Decision Trees, Logistic Regression, and Random Forest) was between 84%-89% on the training set and 69%-76% on the test set the models lacked good ability to identify the users. Afterwards, additional statistical analysis evidenced that the main driver to use video consultations in a sample of participations with a higher-than-average education is the presence of one or more chronic diseases. Cohesion between team members is critical for surgical performance. Our previous study has shown that the experience of working together (measured by Team Familiarity Score, TFS) helps reduce procedure time (PT). However, that conclusion was found in a relatively small sample size. With a large dataset including mixed general surgical procedures, we hypothesize that team familiarity makes a significant contribution to the improvement of team performance in complex cases, rather than in medium or basic surgical cases, measured by the procedure time, length of hospital stays (LOS), and surgical cost (COST). Patient demographics, operation, and patient outcome data of 922 general surgery cases were included. The cases were divided into three subgroups, including basic, medium, and complex surgical procedures. TFS and an Index of Difficulty of Surgery (IDS) were calculated for each procedure. Simple linear regression and random forest regressions were performed to analyze the association between surgical outcomes and all included independent variables (TFS, IDS, patient age, patient weight, and team size). When applied to complex cases, procedure time (r = −0.21) and cost (r = −0.23) dropped as TFS increases. In basic and medium surgical cases, increasing team familiarity failed to shorten the procedure time on average. Team familiarity is more important in complex cases because there is greater potential for improvement through team collaboration compared to basic and medium cases. Caution will be needed when applying team familiarity scores for examining surgical team performance in large databases with skewed to basic surgical cases. • We calculated familiarity scores among surgical team members. • Higher team familiarity reduces procedure time and cost in complex cases. • Team familiarity has minor impact in Basic and Medium surgeries. • Precaution is needed when using familiarity scores in surgical teams. As primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) primarily affects the salivary glands, saliva can serve as an indicator of the glands' pathophysiology and the disease's status. This study aims to illustrate the salivary proteomic profiles of pSS patients and identify potential candidate biomarkers for diagnosis. The discovery set contained 49 samples (24 from pSS and 25 from age- and gender-matched healthy controls [HCs]) and the validation set included 25 samples (12 from pSS and 13 from HCs). Totally 36 pSS patients and 38 HCs were centrally randomized into the discovery set or to the validation set at a 2:1 ratio. Unstimulated whole saliva samples from pSS patients and HCs were analyzed using a data-independent acquisition (DIA) strategy on a 2D LC–HRMS/MS platform to reveal differential proteins. The crucial proteins were verified using DIA analysis and annotated using gene ontology (GO) and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA) analysis. A prediction model for SS was established using random forests. A total of 1,963 proteins were discovered, and 136 proteins exhibited differential representation in pSS patients. The bioinformatic research indicated that these proteins were primarily linked to immunological functions, metabolism, and inflammation. A panel of 19 protein biomarkers was identified by ranking order based on P -value and random forest algorichm, and was validated as the predictive biomarkers exhibiting good performance with area under the curve (AUC) of 0.817 for discovery set and 0.882 for validation set. The candidate protein panel discovered may aid in pSS diagnosis. Salivary proteomic analysis is a promising non-invasive method for prognostic evaluation and early and precise treatments for pSS patients. Methane is the second largest anthropogenic greenhouse gas, and changes in atmospheric methane concentrations can reflect the dynamic balance between its emissions and sinks. Therefore, the monitoring of CH 4 concentration changes and the assessment of underlying driving factors can provide scientific basis for the government's policy making and evaluation. China is the world's largest emitter of anthropogenic methane. However, due to the lack of ground-based observation sites, little work has been done on the spatial-temporal variations for the past decades and influencing factors in China, especially for areas with high anthropogenic emissions as Central and Eastern China. Here to quantify atmospheric CH 4 enhancements trends and its driving factors in Central and Eastern China, we combined the most up-to-date TROPOMI satellite-based column CH 4 (xCH 4) concentration from 2018 to 2022, anthropogenic and natural emissions, and a random forest-based machine learning approach, to simulate atmospheric xCH 4 enhancements from 2001 to 2018. The results showed that (1) the random forest model was able to accurately establish the relationship between emission sources and xCH 4 enhancement with a correlation coefficient (R²) of 0.89 and a root mean-square error (RMSE) of 11.98 ppb; (2)The xCH 4 enhancement only increased from 48.21±2.02 ppb to 49.79±1.87 ppb from the year of 2001 to 2018, with a relative change of 3.27%±0.13%; (3) The simulation results showed that the energy activities and waste treatment were the main contributors to the increase in xCH 4 enhancement, contributing 68.00% and 31.21%, respectively, and the decrease of animal ruminants contributed -6.70% of its enhancement trend. In the neurodevelopmental model of schizophrenia, minor physical anomalies (MPAs) are considered neurodevelopmental markers of schizophrenia. To date, there has been no research to evaluate the interaction between MPAs. Our study built and used a machine learning model to predict the risk of schizophrenia based on measurements of MPA items and to investigate the potential primary and interaction effects of MPAs. The study included 470 patients with schizophrenia and 354 healthy controls. The models used are classical statistical model, Logistic Regression (LR), and machine leaning models, Decision Tree (DT) and Random Forest (RF). We also plotted two-dimensional scatter diagrams and three-dimensional linear/quadratic discriminant analysis (LDA/QDA) graphs for comparison with the DT dendritic structure. We found that RF had the highest predictive power for schizophrenia (Full-training AUC = 0.97 and 5-fold cross-validation AUC = 0.75). We identified several primary MPAs, such as the mouth region, high palate, furrowed tongue, skull height and mouth width. Quantitative MPA analysis indicated that the higher skull height and the narrower mouth width, the higher the risk of schizophrenia. In the interaction, we further identified that skull height and mouth width, furrowed tongue and skull height, high palate and skull height, and high palate and furrowed tongue, showed significant two-item interactions with schizophrenia. A weak three-item interaction was found between high palate, skull height, and mouth width. In conclusion, we found that the two machine learning methods showed good predictive ability in assessing the risk of schizophrenia using the primary and interaction effects of MPAs.
