The current replication study aims to examine the effects of learners’ attention to lexical and grammatical forms on meaning comprehension while listening to a passage in Spanish. The registered protocol and materials in the aural mode from Morgan-Short et al.’s (2018) multisite replication study were used, with first language (L1) Chinese–second language (L2) English participants (N=122) learning Spanish as the third language (L3). The results partially reproduced the previous findings that there was no effect of attending to a lexical item (sol) on meaning comprehension. However, a small to medium effect was found on comprehension scores for simultaneously attending to a grammatical form (la). This finding reveals a site-specific effect with learners from different L1 backgrounds, suggesting that learners’ attending to a grammatical form absent in their L1 is detrimental to their meaning comprehension even if this form exists in their earlier learned L2.

Trichomes that originate from plant aerial epidermis act as mechanical and chemical barriers against herbivores. Although several regulators have recently been identified, the regulatory pathway underlying multicellular trichome formation remains largely unknown in tomato. Here, we report a novel HD-ZIP IV transcription factor, Lanata (Ln), a missense mutation which caused the hairy phenotype. Biochemical analyses demonstrate that Ln separately interacts with two trichome regulators, Woolly (Wo) and Hair (H). Genetic and molecular evidence demonstrates that Ln directly regulates the expression of H. The interaction between Ln and Wo can increase trichome density by enhancing the expression of SlCycB2 and SlCycB3, which we previously showed are involved in tomato trichome formation. Furthermore, SlCycB2 represses the transactivation of the SlCycB3 gene by Ln and vice versa. Our findings provide new insights into the novel regulatory network controlling multicellular trichome formation in tomato.

Viral metagenomics has been used in numerous animal virus discoveries. Recently, an unprecedented diversity of CRESS DNA viruses was identified using this method, and this has expanded our understanding of the environmental distribution and host range of CRESS DNA viruses. In this study, using an unbiased viral metagenomics approach, we investigated the fecal virome of chickens collected from two farms of Anhui Province, China. Five novel CRESS DNA viruses were obtained and characterized. The genome of the five viruses is 2,401-2,742 bp in length, containing two ORFs in the same orientation. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that all five viruses have a closer genetic relationship to smacoviruses than to other viruses in the order Cremevirales. Pairwise comparison of Rep amino acid sequences showed that these five viruses had only low amino acid sequence identity (8.9%-30.6%) to members of the family Smacoviridae, and the sequence identity among the five smaco-like viruses and other unclassified smacovirus strains was 70.3-95.8%. These findings broaden our knowledge of the genetic diversity of CRESS DNA viruses and provide a basis for classification of unclassified smacoviruses.

Background Many studies have reported a possible strong relationship between poor sleep quality, sleep disruption, sleep disorders, and erectile dysfunction (ED). Aim This study aimed to investigate the relationship between sleep quality and ED. Methods Patients diagnosed with ED by the International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) questionnaire and 72 healthy adult men were included. Participants completed the questionnaire, underwent a detailed physical examination, and provided blood samples. All enrolled subjects then wore the Fitbit Charge 2 that monitored sleep throughout the night. Outcomes Primary outcome measures included scores on the IIEF-5, General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale, Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and sleep monitoring parameters obtained from Fitbit Charge 2. Results Finally, a total of 107 ED patients and 72 healthy adult men were enrolled in this study. Univariate analysis indicated that the GAD-7 (P < .001), PHQ-9 (P < .001), and PSQI scores (P < .001) significantly differed according to the presence/absence of ED. Further multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the PHQ-9 (odds ratio [OR]: 1.227, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.070-1.407; P = .003) and PSQI scores (OR: 1.220, 95%CI: 1.116-1.334; P < .001) were independent risk factors for ED. Analysis of objective sleep monitoring parameters showed that total sleep time (TST) (P = .001), sleep onset latency (SOL) (P = .026), deep sleep (N3) duration (P = .011) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep duration (P < .001) were significantly differed between the 2 groups, with durations in the ED group significantly lower than those in the non-ED group. In addition, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis indicated that the REM sleep duration had the highest area under the curve (AUC: 0.728) of all sleep parameters, with a P value < .001, a sensitivity of 72.2% and a specificity of 73.8%. Clinical Implications Urologists and andrologists should be aware of impacted sleep quality and depression in ED patients. Strengths & Limitations The strength of this study is that the relationship between sleep quality and ED was assessed with both a subjective scale and an objective sleep monitoring tool. However, our study only described an association between sleep quality and ED and did not establish a causal relationship. Conclusion Sleep parameters are strongly associated with ED, indicating that poor sleep quality may increase the likelihood of ED.

In recent years, with the extensive use of fossil fuels, the global environment has deteriorated sharply, and human beings are facing the problem of energy conversion. Due to the high calorific value, light weight, abundant reserves, and pollution-free combustion of hydrogen energy, many countries hope to use hydrogen energy as a new sustainable energy instead of fossil energy. Through the introduction of proton exchange membrane fuel cells in class and literature research, it is found that proton exchange membrane fuel cell is a very representative energy technology with high efficiency, low noise, and cleanness in several new energy sources. Especially after the two goals of carbon neutralization and carbon peak are proposed, hydrogen energy has received high attention from basic research and industrial application. To further optimize the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells, this paper analyzes the flow field structure and energy management strategy of proton exchange membrane fuel cells for vehicles and makes a systematic summary on the basis of previous studies.

Ascorbic acid (AsA) is an important nutrient component contributing to major flavor value of tomato fruit and human health. Although transcription regulation of AsA biosynthetic genes have been well demonstrated, epigenetic modification underlying AsA accumulation remains unclear. In this study, we exposed immature tomato fruits to a methyltransferase inhibitor (5-azacytidine) and detected the impacts on AsA accumulation. Inhibition of DNA methylation enhanced AsA accumulation in tomato leaves and fruits. We further isolated a AsA biosynthetic gene, SlGalUR5, which encodes a D-galacturonic acid reductase. SlGalUR5 showed reduced DNA methylation levels and higher transcription levels in Slmet1 mutant while have converse pattern in Sldml2 mutant. 5-azacytidine treatment significantly decreased DNA methylation levels of SlGalUR5 in fruits. Conversely, transcription profiles of SlGalUR5 and enzyme activity of GalUR were enhanced in 5-azacytidine–treated fruits. Our finding revealed a new insight into epigenome modification of SlGalUR5 involved in ascorbic acid accumulation and provide a potential means of increasing AsA levels for tomato breeding.

C-reactive protein (CRP), as a marker of inflammation, may be closely related to erectile dysfunction (ED), however, there is no meta-analysis exists for it.We aimed to verify the relationship between CRP and erectile dysfunction and to explore the changes of CRP levels in ED patients after first-line treatment.We searched databases including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and MEDLINE to identify studies up to January 1, 2022. We performed a comprehensive analysis of the included studies by STATA software and calculated standardized mean differences (SMDs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals.A total of 12 studies were included and the analysis showed that CRP levels were higher significantly in patients with erectile dysfunction than the healthy controls (p 0.001) and decreased by a mean of 0.38 mg/L after first-line PDE5i drug treatment (p = 0.001).This novel meta-analysis suggests that CRP is statistically significantly associated with erectile dysfunction and may be a predictor or risk factor for the assessment of ED. However, further original studies with large sample sizes are needed to validate this.

Background A connection between multiple sclerosis (MS) and erectile dysfunction (ED) has been debatable. Aim To assess the pooled prevalence of ED among men with MS and whether MS was a risk factor for ED. Methods A systematic review of the literature was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library to find relevant English-language studies published up to February 2022 that assessed the prevalence of ED in MS patients. Two authors independently evaluated the full text of the enrolled studies to determine eligibility, and if there was disagreement, the decision was made by a third author after discussion. Assessment tools adapted for prevalence studies were used to evaluate the quality of cross-sectional studies, and the quality of case-control studies was assessed by Newcastle-Ottawa scale. The relative risk (RR) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to assess the strength of association between MS and the risk of ED. The sources of heterogeneity were investigated by subgroup analysis. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate the stability of the results. Outcomes The pooled prevalence of ED in MS patients as well as 95% CIs were estimated, and the RR and its 95% CI were used to assess the strength of association between MS and the risk of ED. Results Sixteen studies included collectively gave information about ED in 2,760 MS men, resulting in a pooled prevalence of 49% (95% CI = 42–56%) for ED with a large heterogeneity. Synthesis of results revealed that MS was significantly associated with an increased risk of ED (RR = 3.17, 95% CI = 2.31–4.36, P < .001; heterogeneity: I2 = 0.0%, P = .716). The pooled prevalence estimates of ED were 55, 63, and 57% in the age >40, IIEF diagnostic tool, and mean disease duration >10 years subgroups, respectively. Clinical Implications The present meta-analysis indicates that MS patients had a significantly increased risk of ED, which should raise awareness of the potential association between MS and ED by clinicians. Strengths & Limitations This is the first meta-analysis to provide the global prevalence of ED in MS patients and to demonstrate that MS is a risk factor for ED. However, all enrolled studies were observational in design, which may reduce the robustness of this evidence. Conclusion Results of this meta-analysis showed that ED was highly prevalent in adult men with MS and MS was a potential risk factor for ED development.

We have proposed, for the first time, an OpenCL implementation for the all-electron density-functional perturbation theory (DFPT) calculations in FHI-aims, which can effectively compute all its time-consuming simulation stages, i.e., the real-space integration of the response density, the Poisson solver for the calculation of the electrostatic potential, and the response Hamiltonian matrix, by utilizing various heterogeneous accelerators. Furthermore, to fully exploit the massively parallel computing capabilities, we have performed a series of general-purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU)-targeted optimizations that significantly improved the execution efficiency by reducing register requirements, branch divergence, and memory transactions. Evaluations on the Sugon supercomputer have shown that notable speedups can be achieved across various materials.

Background The prevalence of erectile dysfunction (ED) in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients was reported rarely and with small sample. Aim The study sought to explore the prevalence of ED in men with AS and to determine whether AS is a risk factor for ED. Methods A systematic search was conducted in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, VIP Database, CBM, PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library. The search was restricted to the articles published up to October 2022. Assessment tools adapted for prevalence studies were used to evaluate the quality of cross-sectional studies, and the quality of case-control studies was assessed by Newcastle–Ottawa scale. The relative risk (RR) and the standard mean difference (SMD) were used to evaluate the association between AS and ED. The subgroup analyses were conducted to identify the resources of heterogeneity. The sensitivity analysis was performed to assess the stability of the pooled estimates. Data were analyzed and graphed using STATA 16.0. Outcomes The pooled prevalence of ED in AS patients was calculated and the RR and the SMD were used to evaluate the association between AS and ED. Results A total of 393 AS patients, enrolled in the 8 included studies, were assessed for the prevalence of ED. The pooled ED prevalence estimate was 44% (95% confidence interval [CI], 25% to 63%, P < .001) with the statistical heterogeneity (I2 = 95.1%, P < .001). After pooling the data for RR, the results showed that men with AS were at a significantly higher risk for ED when compared with the general population without AS (RR, 2.04; 95% CI, 1.28 to 3.25, P = .003; heterogeneity: I2 = 72.6%, P = .003). The pooled results of 5 studies, which provided the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) score, demonstrated that patients with AS had significantly lower values in the IIEF erectile function domain as compared with the healthy control subjects (SMD, −0.60; 95% CI, −0.80 to −0.41; P < .001; heterogeneity: I2 = 34.4%, P = .192). Additionally, the other domain of the IIEF also showed lower values when compared with the general population without AS (P < .05). Clinical Implications The present meta-analysis provides evidence of the management of ED in men with AS. Strengths and Limitations This is the first meta-analysis to provide the prevalence of ED in AS patients and to demonstrate that AS is a risk factor for ED. However, the results after pooling the included studies showed significant heterogeneity. Conclusion Our meta-analysis demonstrated the high prevalence of ED in men with AS and that AS is a potential risk factor for ED.

Plant mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis (mtFAS) appears to be important in photorespiration based on the reverse genetics research from Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) in recent years, but its roles in plant development have not been completely explored. Here, we identified a tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) mutant, fern-like, which displays pleiotropic phenotypes including dwarfism, yellowing, curly leaves, and increased axillary buds. Positional cloning and genetic and heterozygous complementation tests revealed that the underlying gene FERN encodes a 3-hydroxyl-ACP dehydratase enzyme involved in mtFAS. FERN was causally involved in tomato morphogenesis by affecting photorespiration, energy supply, and the homeostasis of reactive oxygen species. Based on lipidome data, FERN and the mtFAS pathway may modulate tomato development by influencing mitochondrial membrane lipid composition and other lipid metabolic pathways. These findings provide important insights into the roles and importance of mtFAS in tomato development.

Multipath parallel transmission has become an important research direction to improve big data transmission efficiency of connected vehicles. However, due to the heterogeneity and time-varying characteristics of parallel transmission paths, packets transmitted in parallel are usually out-of-order delivered to the destination, which greatly limits the throughput. To Lift the restriction of out-of-order delivery on the efficiency of big data transmission, this paper proposes a packet-granular real-time shortest delay scheduling scheme for multipath transmission based on path characteristics prediction. The scheme first clusters and models the heterogeneous network, which greatly reduces the complexity of the network. Subsequently, a prediction algorithm that can quickly converge to real-time delay is proposed. Then the details of the scheduling scheme are introduced by modules, and the bandwidth aggregation efficiency close to the theoretical upper limit is proved through simulation. Finally, we summarize the applicable scenarios and future work of the scheme. Background Leptin, which was only discovered in humans in 1994, has recently been shown to have a possible link with premature ejaculation. Aim To evaluate whether serum leptin levels differed between patients with premature ejaculation and healthy men, and to analyze the changes in leptin levels before and after treatment. Methods Six studies assessing the relationship between leptin and premature ejaculation published up to October 2021 were identified from multiple databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane) and the data were analyzed by Stata software. Outcomes Differences in leptin levels in premature ejaculation patients and healthy people, and changes of leptin levels in premature ejaculation population before and after treatment. Results Analysis of studies assessing differences in leptin concentrations between patients with PE and healthy men showed that there was a statistically significant difference in leptin levels between PE patients and controls (WMD (95% CI) = 17.89 (8.64, 27.14), P < .001). On the other hand, the analysis of data from 3 studies describing serum leptin levels in PE patients before and after treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) showed that there was a significant decrease with leptin levels in PE patients after treatment (WMD (95%CI) = 22.06 (17.21, 26.92), P < .001). Clinical Implications It is possible that leptin can be used as a new marker for premature ejaculation. Strength & Limitations The strength of this study is that it is the first meta- analysis to assess the differences of serum leptin levels between patients with premature ejaculation and healthy subjects and the changes of leptin levels before and after treatment in patients with premature ejaculation. A major limitation is that a greater heterogeneity was identified through our analysis, however we did not find a definitive source of heterogeneity. Conclusion There was a statistically significant relationship between serum leptin levels and patients with PE. In addition, serum leptin levels in patients with PE decreased significantly after 8 weeks of treatment with SSRIs.

Sleep is a fundamental biological requirement, and lack of sleep has increasingly been recognized to cause metabolic consequences and adversely affect immune function. Recent articles have pointed to how sleep and sexual functions may be interlinked, involving inflammation, vascular alterations, tissue damage, and endothelial dysfunction.We examined the effect of paradoxical sleep deprivation on sexual behavior and hemogram parameters in male rats. In addition, we also explored whether 7 days of recovery sleep is sufficient to offset these detriments.Male rats were given sexual experience through training. At the fifth test, the sexually vigorous males were randomly separated into three experimental groups: paradoxical sleep deprivation (rats submitted to 96 h of paradoxical sleep deprivation, n = 6), recovery sleep (recovery sleep 7 days after paradoxical sleep deprivation, n = 6), and control (n = 10). We evaluated the sexual behaviors of three groups. Blood samples were collected to analyze hemogram parameters.In this study, we recognized that repeated copulatory tests can lead to changes in sexual behavior over time. We found that 96 h of acute sleep deprivation impaired the sexual behavior of male rats. Our results demonstrated that 96 h of paradoxical sleep deprivation also increased levels of white blood cell subpopulations, in particular neutrophils. Recovery sleep after sleep deprivation has a certain reversal effect on white blood cell subgroups and impairment of sexual behavior, with some signs that not all levels were back to baseline even after 7 days of recovery.In general, we found that 96 h of paradoxical sleep deprivation impaired the sexual behavior of male rats. Our results demonstrated that paradoxical sleep deprivation can cause systemic inflammation by affecting white blood cell subpopulations, in particular neutrophils. Seven days of recovery sleep after sleep deprivation has a certain reversal effect to these impairments.

To investigate the correlation between paraspinal muscles features and osteoporosis in lumbar spine.A total of 367 subjects who underwent quantitative computed tomography (QCT) examination were enrolled in this study. QCT pro workstation was used to obtain the mean bone mineral density (BMD) of the lower lumbar spine. Fat fraction (FF) and cross-section area (CSA) of the paraspinal muscles at the corresponding levels were measured. All participants were divided into normal, osteopenia, and osteoporosis groups. One-way ANOVA and independent samples t tests were performed to compare differences between groups. Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients and partial correlation analysis after controlling for confounding factors were used to analyze the correlation between BMD and paraspinal muscles measurements.Among the 367 participants included, 116 were in the normal group, 130 in the osteopenia group and 121 in the osteoporosis group. There were significant differences among the three groups for the mean and multifidus FF. BMD showed negative correlations with the FF of the paraspinal muscles. Multifidus and mean FF showed the best correlation (r = - 0.654, - 0.777). There were also significant differences in the mean and multifidus FF between different age groups, while after controlling for confounding factors, there was no correlation between age and FF of the paraspinal muscles.This preliminary study demonstrated the association of BMD with fatty infiltration of paraspinal muscles. Different muscles might have specific effects in different sex and age groups.

N(6)-methyladenosine (m(6)A), as the most pervasive internal modification of eukaryotic mRNA, plays a crucial role in various cancers, but its role in multiple myeloma (MM) pathogenesis has not yet been investigated. In this study, we revealed significantly decreased m(6)A methylation in plasma cells (PCs) from MM patients and showed that the abnormal m(6)A level resulted mainly from upregulation of the demethylase fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO). Gain- and loss-of-function studies demonstrated that FTO plays a tumor-promoting and pro-metastatic role in MM. Combined m(6)A and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and subsequent validation and functional studies identified heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) as a functional target of FTO-mediated m(6)A modification. FTO significantly promotes MM cell proliferation, migration, and invasion by targeting HSF1/HSPs in a YTHDF2-dependent manner. FTO inhibition, especially when combined with bortezomib (BTZ) treatment, synergistically inhibited myeloma bone tumor formation and extramedullary spread in NOD-Prkdc(em26Cd52)il2rg(em26Cd22)/Nju (NCG) mice. We demonstrated the functional importance of m(6)A demethylase FTO in MM progression, especially in promoting extramedullary myeloma (EMM) formation, and proposed the FTO-HSF1/HSP axis as a potential novel therapeutic target in MM.

To investigate the correlation between fatty infiltration of the paraspinal muscle and bone mineral density (BMD). In total, 367 subjects (182 men and 185 women) who underwent quantitative computed tomography (QCT) examination were enrolled in this study. A QCT Pro workstation was used to obtain the mean BMD of the lower lumbar spine (L3, L4, L5) and fat fraction (FF) of the paraspinal muscle (psoas and erector spinae) at the corresponding levels. The patient's age, sex, body mass index, number of previous vertebral fractures, physical activity level, and visual analog scale (VAS) score for lower back pain were recorded. For categorical variables, one-way ANOVA and independent-samples t tests were performed. Spearman and Pearson correlation coefficients were used to analyze the correlations among continuous variables. Influential factors were analyzed by multivariate linear regression analysis. Regarding the mean paraspinal muscle FF, there were significant differences between the different vertebral fracture groups (P 0.05). Age and VAS score showed a positive correlation with the mean paraspinal muscle FF (r = 0.389, 0.454). BMD showed a negative correlation with the mean paraspinal muscle FF (r = - 0.721). The multiple linear regression analysis showed that vertebral fracture (β = 0.851, P = 0.021) and BMD (β = - 4.341, P = 0.004) were independent factors of the mean paraspinal muscle FF. This study demonstrated that an advanced age, a greater VAS score, a higher number of vertebral fractures, and a lower BMD may be associated with more severe fatty infiltration of the paraspinal muscle.

Introduction: A few studies involved the relationship between vitamin D and diabetes mellitus (DM) with erectile dysfunction (ED), and no meta-analysis was conducted to pool these data. The main purpose of our study was to examine the changes in serum vitamin D levels in patients with DM combined with ED. Methods: An extensive search was performed, including the following words: “erectile dysfunction,” “diabetes,” and “vitamin D.” Databases, including Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Web of Science, were retrieved to identify studies published up to September 30, 2021. Four studies were eligible for our meta-analysis. Results: The weighted mean difference and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals were calculated to the data we selected. The results showed that the level of vitamin D in DM with ED was significantly lower (12.5 nmol/mL) than patients with diabetes alone (p = 0.002). Conclusion: Our novel meta-analysis suggests that vitamin D may be a risk factor for DM with ED, which can provide a new idea for the treatment and prevention of DM with ED.

The controversial tetrahedral intermediate of the reaction between acetyl chloride and ethanol was detected using novel methodology. The results demonstrate that the reaction proceeds via an addition/elimination mechanism.

Malic acid (MA) is an important flavor acid in fruits and acts as a mediator in a series of metabolic pathways. It is important to understand the factors affecting MA metabolism for fruit flavor improvement and to understand MA-mediated biological processes. However, the metabolic accumulation of MA is controlled by complex heredity and environmental factors, making it difficult to predict and regulate the metabolism of MA. In this study, we carried out a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on MA using eight milestone models with two-environment repeats. A series of associated SNP variations were identified from the GWAS, and 15 high-confidence annotated genes were further predicted based on linkage disequilibrium and lead SNPs. The transcriptome data of candidate genes were explored within different tomato organs as well as various fruit tissues, and suggested specific expression patterns in fruit pericarp. Based on the genetic parameters of population differentiation and SNP distribution, tomato MA content has been more influenced by domestication sweeps and less affected by improvement sweeps in the long-term history of tomato breeding. In addition, genotype × environment interaction might contribute to the difference in domestication phenotypic data under different environments. This study provides new genetic insights into how tomato changed its MA content during breeding and makes available function-based markers for breeding by marker-assisted selection.

Domestication and improvement are important processes that generate the variation in genome and phonotypes underlying crop improvement. Unfortunately, during selection for certain attributes, other valuable traits may be inadvertently discarded. One example is the decline in fruit soluble solids content (SSC) during tomato breeding. Several genetic loci for SSC have been identified, but few reports on the underlying mechanisms are available. In this study we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for SSC of the red-ripe fruits in a population consisting of 481 tomato accessions with large natural variations and found a new quantitative trait locus, STP1, encoding a sugar transporter protein. The causal variation of STP1, a 21-bp InDel located in the promoter region 1124 bp upstream of the start codon, alters its expression. STP1Insertion accessions with an 21-bp insertion have higher SSC than STP1Deletion accessions with the 21-bp deletion. Knockout of STP1 in TS-23 with high SSC using CRISPR/Cas9 greatly decreased SSC in fruits. In vivo and in vitro assays demonstrated that ZAT10-LIKE, a zinc finger protein transcription factor (ZFP TF), can specifically bind to the promoter of STP1Insertion to enhance STP1 expression, but not to the promoter of STP1Deletion, leading to lower fruit SSC in modern tomatoes. Diversity analysis revealed that STP1 was selected during tomato improvement. Taking these results together, we identified a naturally occurring causal variation underlying SSC in tomato, and a new role for ZFP TFs in regulating sugar transporters. The findings enrich our understanding of tomato evolution and domestication, and provide a genetic basis for genome design for improving fruit taste.

PurposeThis study was performed to assess the association of calcium channel blockers (CCB) and other potential factors with postoperative lymphatic-related morbidity in patients with cervical cancer and endometrial carcinoma.MethodsPatients diagnosed with cervical cancer or endometrial carcinoma with pelvic lymphadenectomy between January 2017 and January 2022 were enrolled. Postoperative lymphatic-related morbidity was evaluated by calculating the lymph cyst occurrence within 3 months after surgery and the duration of pelvic drainage. Univariate analyses evaluating the risk factors for lymphatic-related morbidity were performed.ResultsOf a total of 251 patients, 52 patients were diagnosed with lymphatic cysts by B-ultrasound or computed tomography, and the duration of drainage from 110 patients exceeded the average number of days. Univariable analysis revealed that hypertension, CCB, and lymph node metastasis were independent predictors of postoperative complications.ConclusionsThis study demonstrated that CCB may be a factor associated with the incidence of postoperation lymph cysts, and CCB usage prolongs the duration of pelvic drainage.

With the increasing utilization of machine learning (ML) to enhance products’ capabilities, the design research community has begun to explore how to support the conceptual design of ML-enhanced products. However, UX value creation of ML-enhanced products is still challenging because of ML's unique characteristics and numerous complex factors in conceptual design. To help designers create UX value for ML-enhanced products, we developed the UX value framework and the CoMLUX design process. The proposed framework describes how ML, stakeholders, and context co-create the UX value of ML-enhanced products, and identifies the growability and opacity of ML, helping designers systematically understand the co-creators while avoiding cognitive overload. The CoMLUX design process provides practical guidance for designing ML-enhanced products with growability and transparency. At last, we demonstrate the usage methods of the framework and process in an actual project and summarize the inspirations and limitations of our work.

The deficits in sensory pathways caused by peripheral edema, pain, and inflammation of the damaged ligaments may induce maladaptive changes within the central nervous system. The purpose of this study was to determine whether patients with lateral ankle instability (LAI) exhibit morphological differences of brain grey matter when compared with healthy controls, and then assess the relationships between the observed differences and the characteristics of patients.Cross-sectional.Thirty patients with LAI and 32 healthy controls without LAI underwent MRI scans using anatomical T1 sequences. A voxel-wise general linear model was used to compare the grey matter volume throughout the whole brain between patients and controls. Linear regression analyses were performed for the grey matter volume within the significant clusters to assess their relationship with age, sex, the existence of acute injury, pain level, sports activity level, and the duration of LAI within the patient group.The grey matter volume of a cluster within the cerebellar vermis (Vermis_4_5 in automated anatomical labeling template) was significantly reduced in patients with LAI (Gaussian Random Field corrections with two-tailed p-cluster 0.05 and p-voxel 0.001). Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that the duration of LAI tended to be passively associated with the grey matter volume of this LAI-related vermal cluster (p = 0.092).Participants with LAI exhibited a reduced grey matter volume of a cluster within the cerebellar vermis compared with participants without LAI, and the degree of volume reduction tended to be positively associated with the duration of LAI.

Acer catalpifolium is a perennial deciduous broad-leaved woody plant, listed in the second-class protection program in China mainly distributed on the northwest edge of Chengdu plain. However, extensive anthropogenic disturbances and pollutants emissions (such as SO2, NH3 and NOX) in this area have created a heterogeneous habitat for this species and its impacts have not been systematically studied. In this study, we investigated the leaf nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) content of A. catalpifolium in the natural distribution areas, and a series of simulation experiments (e.g., various water and light supply regimes, different acid and N deposition levels, reintroduction management) were conducted to analyze responses of N and P stoichiometric characteristics to environmental changes. The results showed that leaf nitrogen content (LNC) was 14.49 ~ 25.44 mg g-1, leaf phosphorus content (LPC) was 1.29~3.81 mg g-1 and the N/P ratio of the leaf (L-N/P) was 4.87~13.93. As per the simulation experiments, LNC of A. catalpifolium is found to be relatively high at strong light conditions (80% of full light), high N deposition (100 and 150 kg N ha-1), low acidity rainwater, reintroduction to understory area or N fertilizer applications. A high level of LPC was found when applied with 80% of full light and moderate N deposition (100 kg N ha-1). L-N/P was high under severe shade (8% of full light), severe N deposition (200 kg N ha-1), and reintroduction to gap and undergrowth habitat; however, low L-N/P was observed at low acidity rainwater or P fertilizer application. The nutrient supply facilitates corresponding elements uptake, shade tends to induce P limitation and soil acidification shows N limitation. Our results provide theoretical guidance for field management and nutrient supply regimes for future protection, population rejuvenation of this species and provide guidelines for conservation and nutrient management strategies for the endangered species.
