Introdução: Pacientes em tratamento oncológico estão sujeitos a desenvolver complicações bucais, que comprometem a integridade e função da cavidade oral. Isso se deve ao fato de que a destruição causada pela terapia antitumoral (quimioterapia e radioterapia) não se limita apenas as células neoplásicas, ela acomete também células normais, principalmente as que estão em constante renovação. As principais complicações causadas pelo tratamento oncológico na cavidade bucal são: mucosite, xerostomia, hemorragias gengivais, perda de paladar, trismo e osteorradionecrose. Objetivo: Avaliar por meio de um questionário, o nível de informação acerca de saúde bucal de pacientes portadores de neoplasias. Metodologia: Foram entrevistados 100 pacientes, atendidos no ambulatório de oncologia do Hospital Regional do Vale do Paraíba. Resultados: Ao serem questionados sobre a última consulta odontológica, menos da metade (45%) alegaram ter ido nos últimos 12 meses, 42% usavam como artifícios para a higienização somente escova e pasta, 51% acreditavam que a quimioterapia não teria efeito algum a cavidade bucal. Conclusão: O conhecimento dos pacientes em tratamento oncológico sobre saúde bucal ainda é deficiente e existe falta de instrução e informação quanto à higiene bucal e acompanhamento do cirurgião-dentista ao paciente oncológico.

Aim. Alveolar deficiency is considered one of the main limitations for placement of osseointegrated implants, as well as for their long-term success, especially in the anterior region of the maxilla. Objective. To report a clinical case of reconstruction of atrophic maxilla with deproteinized bovine bone associated with platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and titanium mesh and to assess the linear and volumetric bone gains and rehabilitation with implants in a 5-year follow-up. Case. Patient with bone deficiency in the anterior maxilla region underwent bone reconstruction with deproteinized bovine bone associated with PRF and titanium mesh. After six months, the necessary bone height and volume were obtained for placement of implants, and the bone contour was restored in the anterior region, providing functional and aesthetic improvement. The amount of linear and volumetric bone gains was compared to baseline computed tomography scans. Three implants were placed in the grafted region, and a bone tissue sample was obtained at the time of their placement. Histological analysis showed neo-formed bone tissue in contact with the remaining particles of the biomaterial. After six months, the implants were activated, and the prosthesis was placed on the implants, which were monitored for five years. Conclusion. Implants can be placed predictably in regions with vertical and horizontal bone augmentations by using xenogeneic bone grafts associated with titanium mesh and PRF.

Splenic epithelial cysts are rare in humans and have not been reported in animals, to our knowledge. During a routine medical examination of a 12-y-old castrated male Maltese dog, a splenic mass was found and subsequently removed via splenectomy. Histologically, a well-defined multilocular cyst in the spleen was lined mostly by simple cuboidal, multifocally by stratified cuboidal, or occasionally by stratified squamous epithelium. Immunohistochemically, the lining cells were positive for cytokeratin and negative for vimentin, CD31, and Wilms tumor protein 1. The case was diagnosed as a primary splenic epidermoid cyst.

Introduction: Mucositis has been a complication of great importance in antineoplastic treatments of head and neck tumors because when not treated properly it can lead to the interruption of radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Knowing that mucositis is a common inflammatory condition in patients undergoing radiotherapy and that nitric oxide (NO) can be a marker of inflammation. Aim: to seek an association between mucositis, pain and NO levels in patients diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in different periods of radiotherapy. Methodology: Clinical examination was performed weekly to investigate presence of mucositis, in which the degree and intensity of pain were evaluated by using the visual analogue scale (VAS) and mouthwash samples were collected from twenty patients. In the collected samples, the concentrations of NO were measured by using the Griess method. Results: of the twenty patients, two were excluded due to worsening of the clinical picture. Of the 18 patients who had their treatment finished, ten had some degree of mucositis and pain, with the highest levels being observed in the last week of treatment. As for the levels of NO, it was observed that low values varied widely among the patients and weeks studied. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between mucositis degrees and pain intensities, although the NO levels were correlated neither with mucositis nor with pain intensity throughout the experimental weeks. Conclusion: Although NO is an inflammatory mediator involved in diseases of the oral cavity, its presence cannot be associated with mucositis and pain in patients with head and neck cancer who are on radiotherapy.

Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS) has several trigger factors, including physical exertion, pregnancy, and the intake of vasoconstrictive agents. These triggers activate the sympathetic nervous system and induce vasoconstriction, thereby leading to an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. In this study, we describe case of RCVS in a 73-year-old woman who complained of sudden bilateral leg weakness after taking cyclophosphamide for anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody associated vasculitis. She was diagnosed with concurrent cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction with multiple intracranial vasoconstrictions on imaging analyses.

Background and Overview Patients seropositive HIV and AIDS represent a group of patients who experience longer longevity at the expense of effective therapies for infection control and related opportunistic diseases. However, the prolonged use of these drugs is often associated with adverse events, which theoretically may influence dental management and the long-term stability of dental implants. The objective of this study was to prospectively evaluate a group of HIV-positive people from a previous study who had received dental implants for 12 years after oral rehabilitation and functional loading. Case Description Nine patients with a total of 18 implants participated in this study. Viral load was undetectable in 8 patients, with 1 who had 48 copies/milliliter. The cluster of differentiation 4 T lymphocyte count ranged from 227 through 1,000 cells/cubic millimeter, mean (standard deviation [SD]) 564 (271.13) cells/mm3. Five of the 9 (55.5%) patients had visible plaque, and 5 (55.5%) had bleeding on probing with no implant mobility. Radiographs obtained at 6 months, 12 months, and 12 years of functional loading showed mean (SD) marginal bone losses of 0.32 (0.23) mm, 0.37 (0.23) mm, and 2.43 (1.48), respectively. Conclusion and Practical Implications These results suggest that dental implant treatment in HIV-positive patients achieved long-term survival, with a success rate comparable with that observed in healthy patients, indicating that implant rehabilitation is not a contraindication for HIV-positive patients.

Hydrazine is an important industrial chemical and fuel that has attracted considerable attention for use in liquid fuel cells. Ideally, hydrazine could be prepared via direct oxidative coupling of ammonia, but thermodynamic and kinetic factors limit the viability of this approach. The present study evaluates three different electrochemical strategies for the oxidative homocoupling of benzophenone imine, a readily accessible ammonia surrogate. Hydrolysis of the resulting benzophenone azine affords hydrazine and benzophenone, with the latter amenable to recycling. The three different electrochemical N–N coupling methods include (1) a proton-coupled electron-transfer process promoted by a phosphate base, (2) an iodine-mediated reaction involving intermediate N–I bond formation, and (3) a copper-catalyzed N–N coupling process. Analysis of the thermodynamic efficiencies for these electrochemical imine-to-azine oxidation reactions reveals low overpotentials (η) for the copper and iodine mediated processes (390 and 470 mV, respectively), but a much higher value for the proton-coupled pathway (η ~ 1.6 V). A similar approach is used to assess molecular electrocatalytic methods for electrochemical oxidation of ammonia to dinitrogen.

Carotid stenosis is an important etiology of ischemic stroke. Most of the strokes associated with carotid stenosis are caused by artery-to-artery embolism. The risk of embolism highly depends on the stenosis degree and the vulnerability of the carotid plaque. Carotid ultrasonography is useful for evaluating the characteristics of carotid plaque. This review aims to provide information on performing and interpreting the result of carotid ultrasonography and the treatment of carotid artery disease based on the current guidelines. The degree of stenosis can be measured by the diameter reduction and flow velocity criteria. The risk of embolism is highest when the stenosis degree is around 70% to 80%. A heterogeneous echolucent plaque with an irregular surface or an ulcer shows a high risk of embolism. Appropriate treatment is important for the patients with carotid stenosis. In symptomatic patients, a potent antiplatelet treatment, especially during the acute stage, is beneficial. Patients with asymptomatic stenosis over 50% can also be considered for antiplatelet treatments. The associated risk factors should be managed according to the targets. Medically intractable cases or patients with high risk of embolism may receive carotid endarterectomy or carotid artery stenting depending on the concomitant disease and the degree of carotid stenosis. Considering the safety of ultrasound imaging, treatment may be followed-up by carotid ultrasonography.

Significance The Hippo pathway plays a crucial role in maintaining tissue homeostasis. Generally, activated Hippo pathway effectors, YAP/TAZ, induce the transcription of their negative regulators, NF2 and LATS2, and this negative feedback loop maintains homeostasis of the Hippo pathway. However, YAP and TAZ are consistently hyperactivated in various cancer cells, enhancing tumor growth. Our study found that LATS2, a direct-inhibiting kinase of YAP/TAZ and a core component of the negative feedback loop in the Hippo pathway, is modified with O-GlcNAc. LATS2 O-GlcNAcylation inhibited its activity by interrupting the interaction with the MOB1 adaptor protein, thereby activating YAP and TAZ to promote cell proliferation. Thus, our study suggests that LATS2 O-GlcNAcylation is deeply involved in Hippo pathway dysregulation in cancer cells., The Hippo pathway controls organ size and tissue homeostasis by regulating cell proliferation and apoptosis. The LATS-mediated negative feedback loop prevents excessive activation of the effectors YAP/TAZ, maintaining homeostasis of the Hippo pathway. YAP and TAZ are hyperactivated in various cancer cells which lead to tumor growth. Aberrantly increased O-GlcNAcylation has recently emerged as a cause of hyperactivation of YAP in cancer cells. However, the mechanism, which induces hyperactivation of TAZ and blocks LATS-mediated negative feedback, remains to be elucidated in cancer cells. This study found that in breast cancer cells, abnormally increased O-GlcNAcylation hyperactivates YAP/TAZ and inhibits LATS2, a direct negative regulator of YAP/TAZ. LATS2 is one of the newly identified O-GlcNAcylated components in the MST-LATS kinase cascade. Here, we found that O-GlcNAcylation at LATS2 Thr436 interrupted its interaction with the MOB1 adaptor protein, which connects MST to LATS2, leading to activation of YAP/TAZ by suppressing LATS2 kinase activity. LATS2 is a core component in the LATS-mediated negative feedback loop. Thus, this study suggests that LATS2 O-GlcNAcylation is deeply involved in tumor growth by playing a critical role in dysregulation of the Hippo pathway in cancer cells.

Background. The aim of this study was to assess the volumetric stability and bone formation in grafts with Bio-Oss and autogenous bone at different proportions in rabbit calvaria. Material and Methods. Ten rabbits received four titanium cylinders in their calvaria and randomly divided into the following groups: Group I: Bio-Oss (100%), Group II: Bio-Oss (75%) + autogenous bone (25%), Group III: Bio-Oss (50%) + autogenous bone (50%), and Group IV: autogenous bone (100%). After twelve weeks, the animals were euthanized, and samples were collected for clinical and histological analysis. Results. Clinical analysis showed that Groups I (90.43 ± 8.99) and II (90.87 ± 7.43) had greater dimensional stability compared to Group IV (P=0.0005). Histologically, Groups I, II, and III showed areas of bone formation with particles of biomaterial remaining in close contact with the newly formed bone. However, there were no significant differences between the groups regarding the newly formed bone area. Conclusion. It was concluded that the use of Bio-Oss either alone or associated with the autogenous bone at a proportion of 25% showed superior dimensional stability compared to the use of autogenous bone in the proposed experimental model.

Conjugate addition of thiols to benzoquinones has been coupled to in situ electrochemical oxidation of the resulting hydroquinone to enable full substitution of quinone C–H bonds. The sulfonated thioether-substituted quinones exhibit high solublity and stability in aqueous solution and have redox potentials ranging from 440–750 mV vs. SHE. The electrosynthetic protocol is effective on >100 g scale.

Computer-guided implant surgery facilitated by intraoral scanning may enhance the efficiency of the digital workflow. However, it is necessary to assess technique accuracy to evaluate the accuracy of implant placement.The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the accuracy of a virtual computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) static guided surgery technique associated with intraoral scanning in partially edentulous participants by analyzing the overlap among preoperative and postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans, virtual planning, and the guided surgery performed.Eleven partially edentulous participants underwent CBCT and intraoral scanning (TRIOS3). Data were integrated into a software program (ImplantViewer 3.5) for the virtual planning of implants and 3-dimensional (3D) printing of the prototype CAD-CAM surgical guide. A total of 18 implants were placed using the CAD-CAM static computer-aided implant surgery technique (Strong SW). After 15 days, postoperative CBCT scans were made and 4 variables (angular, coronal, apical, and vertical deviation) were measured to compare the virtually planned implants and the implants placed by analyzing the overlap between preoperative and postoperative of the virtual planning and guided surgery performed using the ImplantViewer 3.5 and Rhino 6 software programs.Deviations were found in all parameters analyzed. The mean angular deviation was 2.68 ±1.62 degrees; mean coronal deviation, 0.82 ±0.44 mm; mean apical deviation, 1.14 ±0.44 mm; and mean vertical deviation, 0.62 ±0.44 mm.The implants placed using the CAD-CAM static guided surgery technique associated with intraoral scanning in partially edentulous participants exhibited angular and linear deviations when compared with virtual planning implants. However, these deviations were not clinically significant.

A 30-year-old Caucasian man presented with an 18-month history of an asymptomatic calcified mass, located on the buccal side of the alveolar ridge. Medical records did not present any underlying conditions. On intraoral examination, the lesion was located on the right side of the maxilla, showing mucosal fenestration with mineralized tissue measuring approximately 1 cm in diameter. Radiographic examination showed multiple radiopaque masses. Incisional biopsy was performed, and histological analysis revealed a presence of enamel matrix, dentin, and cementum, resembling tooth-like structures. Surgical removal was offered after the diagnostic confirmation of peripheral odontoma, but the patient refused because of the asymptomatic nature of the lesion.

Hypertension is a complex disorder caused by genetic and environmental risk factors. Recently, genome-wide association studies (GWASs) identified more than 100 genetic variants for blood pressure traits and hypertension. However, the interactions between these genetic variants and environmental factors have not been systematically investigated. Therefore, we examined the interaction between genetic and environmental risk factors in blood pressure traits using the genetic risk score (GRS). Two Korean community-based cohorts, Cohort I (KARE; N = 8,840) and Cohort II (CAVAS; N = 9,599), were used for this study, and GRSs were calculated from 42 GWAS single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that were validated for their association in these cohorts. We calculated GRSs in both ways by considering the effect sizes of each SNP (weighted GRS) and not considering the effect sizes (unweighted GRS). The unweighted GRS was strongly associated with systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and hypertension (p = 9.03 × 10 -47 , p = 9.41 × 10 -48 , and p = 3.22 × 10 -55 by meta-analysis, respectively) and the weighted GRS showed the similar results. The environmental factors of body mass index, waist circumference, and drinking status were significantly associated with blood pressure traits, and the interaction between these factors and GRSs were examined. However, no interactions were found with either the GRS or the individual SNPs considered for the GRS. Our findings show that it is challenging to find GRS-environment interactions regarding blood pressure traits.

Background Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is an important complication of ischemic stroke, although the incidence of DVT is regarded as being lower in Asian than in non-Asian patients. Here, we investigated the incidence and factors associated with DVT in Asian patients with ischemic stroke. Methods Acute ischemic stroke patients received lower extremity ultrasonography (LEUS) to diagnose the presence of DVT. Clinical characteristics and laboratory results, including D-dimer level, were compared between patients with and without DVT. Independent risk factors for DVT were investigated using multivariable analysis. Similar analysis was performed to identify factors associated with elevated D-dimer level (> 0.5 mg/dl) in acute ischemic stroke patients. Results During the study period, 289 patients were enrolled, and 38 (13.1%) showed DVT. Female sex (OR = 2.579, 95% CI = 1.224–5.432; p = 0.013) and a high National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score (OR = 1.191 95% CI = 1.095–1.294; p = 0.005) were independently associated with the presence of DVT, although D-dimer level was not. Stroke mechanism, especially cardioembolic stroke (OR = 3.777, 95% CI = 1.532–9.313; p = 0.004; reference: large artery atherosclerosis), NIHSS score (OR = 1.087, 95% CI = 1.002–1.179; p = 0.001) and thrombolysis (OR = 12.360, 95% CI 2.456–62.213; p = 0.002) were independently associated with elevated abnormal D-dimer levels. Conclusion The severity of ischemic stroke, but not the D-dimer level, was associated with the presence of DVT in Asian ischemic stroke patients. D-dimer level was influenced by the stroke mechanism. LEUS in patients with severe neurological deficit, rather than screening with D-dimer, may be more beneficial for diagnosing DVT in Asian patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Introduction: Obesity results from an imbalance in the intake and expenditure of calories that leads to lifestyle-related diseases. Although genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have revealed many obesity-related genetic factors, the interactions of these factors and calorie intake remain unknown. This study aimed to investigate interactions between calorie intake and the polygenic risk score (PRS) of BMI. Methods: Three cohorts, i.e., from the Korea Association REsource (KARE; n = 8,736), CArdioVAscular Disease Association Study (CAVAS; n = 9,334), and Health EXAminee (HEXA; n = 28,445), were used for this study. BMI-related genetic loci were selected from previous GWAS. Two scores, PRS, and association (a)PRS, were used; the former was determined from 193 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from 5 GWAS datasets, and the latter from 62 SNPs (potentially associated) from 3 Korean cohorts (meta-analysis, p < 0.01). Results: PRS and aPRS were significantly associated with BMI in all 3 cohorts but did not exhibit a significant interaction with total calorie intake. Similar results were obtained for obesity. PRS and aPRS were significantly associated with obesity but did not show a significant interaction with total calorie intake. We further analyzed the interaction with protein, fat, and carbohydrate intake. The results were similar to those for total calorie intake, with PRS and aPRS found to not be associated with the interaction of any of the 3 nutrition components for either BMI or obesity. Discussion: The interaction of BMI PRS with calorie intake was investigated in 3 independent Korean cohorts (total n = 35,094) and no interactions were found between PRS and calorie intake for obesity.

Introduction: Genetic variants may play a role in determining the location of cerebral atherosclerosis. Hypothesis and aim: We aimed to investigate the association between RNF213 , MMP2 , and genetic polymorphisms linked to vascular tortuosity with the location of cerebral arterial atherosclerosis. Methods: A prospective case-control study was conducted on patients with ischemic stroke and age- and sex-matched stroke-free controls. The stroke patients were categorized into those with intracranial artery atherosclerosis (ICAS), extracranial artery atherosclerosis (ECAS), and small vessel occlusion (SVO). Six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) including rs2118181 ( FBN1 ), rs2179357 ( SLC2A10 ), rs1036095 ( TGFBR2 ), rs243865 ( MMP2 ), rs1800470 ( TGFB1 ), and rs112735431 ( RNF213 ) were analyzed with the TaqMan Genotyping Assay, and the distribution of genotypes across groups was compared. Results: None of the six SNPs were associated with stroke on comparing the 449 stroke patients (71 with ECAS, 169 with ICAS, and 209 with SVO) to the 447 controls. In the subgroup analysis, the adjusted odds ratios (aORs) for age and sex indicated a significant association between rs112735431 and ICAS in the allele comparison analysis and in the additive and dominant model analyses. rs112735431was associated with anterior circulation involvement and increased burden of cerebral atherosclerosis. rs2179357 was significantly associated with ICAS in the recessive model analysis, and rs1800470 was significantly associated with ECAS in the recessive model analysis when compared to controls. Conclusion: rs112735431 was associated with ICAS, and increased atherosclerosis burden in the Korean population. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of rs112735431, and to confirm the association of rs2179357 and rs1800470 with cerebral atherosclerosis.

The aim of this study was to evaluate, by means of histology and immunohistochemistry (IHC) the effects of Artin-M on wound healing in the palatal mucosa in dogs. Three full thickness wounds of 6 mm diameter were surgically created in the palatal mucosa of twenty dogs and randomly divided into three groups according to one of the treatment assigned: Group C—Control (coagulum); Group A—Artin-M gel; Group V—Vehicle (carboxymethylcellulose 3%). Each animal received all the three experimental treatments. Afterwards, four animals were killed at 2, 4, 7, 14 and 21 days post-surgery. Wounded areas were photographed and scored for macroscopic evaluation. Biopsies were harvested and used for descriptive histological analysis, proliferating cell nuclear antigen IHC and measurement of myeloperoxidase activity. The results demonstrated faster wound closure in group A in comparison to the other groups in all the periods evaluated. Histological analyses exhibited improved re-epithelialization and collagen fiber formation resulting in faster maturation of granulation tissue in group A compared to the other groups by day 14. Treatment with Artin-M gel significantly induced cell proliferation and increased volumetric density of fibroblasts at day 2 and 4 (p < 0.05). Neutrophil infiltration in group A was significantly higher than the other groups (p < 0.05) at the same time points. Collectively, our findings demonstrated that Artin-M may potentially favor wound healing on palatal mucosa lesions via recruitment of neutrophils and promotion of cell proliferation. Through the lessons learned during the ITER control, data access and communication (CODAC) tasks and the interaction with various domestic and overseas communities, the KSTAR control system is being improved with new functions. We have adopted ITER synchronous data bus network (SDN) and time communication network (TCN) to increase the flexibility of control system design and improve system performance. Absolute time-based discharge operations and high-speed data communication interfaces are standardized as KSTAR standard software components. We used the reconfigurable I/O (RIO) library provided by CODAC for the renovation of a fast interlock system, and effectively implemented a real-time core structure through ITER for the next generation real-time control systems. A new hardware platform standard has been adopted for system standardization and convenience of maintenance international collaboration.

In this study, lead-free (K0.5Na0.5)1−xAg x NbO3 (x = 0.00, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, and 0.30) ferroelectric ceramics were fabricated using solid-state synthesis without A-site and B-site manufacturing step. The (K0.5Na0.5)1−xAg x NbO3 ceramics were sintered at 1110 °C for 4 h after calcination at 800 °C for 3 h. The sintered sample was dense, and the grain size was 1.02 ~ 7.8 μm. For x ≤ 0.2, the sintered ceramic samples had a single perovskite structure. The temperature dependence of the dielectric constant in the (K0.5Na0.5)1−xAg x NbO3 was measured at 1 kHz using an LCR meter. The high dielectric constant properties could be obtained in (K0.5Na0.5)1−xAg x NbO3 ceramics. The orthorhombic-to-tetragonal phase transition temperature and ferroelectric Curie temperature decreased linearly with increasing mole fraction of the Ag content. The Curie temperature shifted from 393 °C for (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 ceramics to 317 °C for (K0.5Na0.5)0.7Ag0.3NbO3 ceramics. The maximum dielectric constant was 8930 at 330 °C in the (K0.5Na0.5)0.8Ag0.2NbO3 ceramics.

Dental implants became a viable alternative involving the Odontology field developing the aesthetics function and the patient’s comfort. The choice of which type of prosthesis connection is based on their clinical situation of each case and also for own professional preferences. There are two types of prosthetic restorations commonly used in Implantology: the cemented one and the screw retained prosthesis; both have their own advantages and limitations. The decision of which prosthetic method to use starts during the planning stage and can imply the aesthetics, dental occlusion, retention, effect over the peri-implant tissue, among other complications, influencing the implant survival rate. The peri-implant marginal bone loss is one of the problems related to the late failure of the osseointegration of the implants, being a relevant cause of failure, because it may promote the implant removal due to the osseointegration loss. The goal of this study was to analyze and identify the relation of different types of prosthesis (cemented and screw retained) through a literary point, with the peri-implant marginal bone loss, as well as relate the used type of prosthesis with the implant survival rate. Therefore, it is concluded that the marginal peri-implant bone loss owns multifactorial etiology and there are other factors that influence the implant survival, which is not possible to obtain a straight bone loss comparison with the types of prosthesis installed. Nevertheless, the screw-retained prosthesis presented more biomechanical complications such as the screw loosening and the ceramic fracture; and the cemented prosthesis showed more biological complications involving the peri- implant tissues.

Zn1−xLixO films were spin-coated on platinum substrates by using sol-gel method. The XRD pattern demonstrated that the Li doped ZnO films exhibits the hexagonal wurtzite structure. And, the 18.5 ◦ peak was found at dopant content from 0.15 to 0.2, which could be attributed to the (003) plane of Li2PtO3. The effect of Li doping and emission in relation to defects is investigated using CL. Zn1−xLixO films show two characteristic emission peaks centered at near 383 nm and near 530 nm, respectively. The peak position of the UV emission is not changed when the Li content is increased from 0.0 to 0.2. The green emission peak increase abruptly at 0.1 Li content, however, decreases gradually with increasing Li content. The dielectric constant increases with increasing Li content up to 0.15, and decreases when lithium is added at 0.2. The ferroelectric polarization was measured using a polarization-electric field hysteresis loop. At x = 0.15, the measured values of spontaneous polarization and coercive field were 0.25 μC/cm2 and 1.6 kV/cm at room temperature, respectively.

Métodos Foram incluídos no estudo 115 pacientes em hemodiálise. Os parâmetros clínicos periodontais avaliados foram: índice de placa, índice gengival, profundidade de sondagem e perda de nível de inserção clínico. Os pacientes foram classificados de acordo com a presença e a gravidade da doença periodontal, bem como de acordo com o risco periodontal. Resultados Quanto aos parâmetros clínicos, 107 pacientes dentados (93%) apresentaram média de índice de placa de 1,53±0,78 e gengival de 0,95±0,85, profundidade de sondagem de 2,2±0,6mm e nível de inserção clínica de 3,18±1,75mm. Em relação à doença periodontal, 1 (0,94%) era saudável, 55 (51,40%) apresentavam periodontite leve, 28 (26,17%) moderada e 23 (21,49%) avançada. Com relação ao risco, dos 107 pacientes, 37 apresentavam risco baixo, 35 moderado e 35 alto. To evaluate the characteristics of a novel human cell line, F2N78, including growth performance, physicochemical properties, and biological activity via direct comparison with CHO cells. The culture performance and physicochemical properties of antibodies produced from F2N78 and CHO cells were compared. For charge variants, antibodies produced from F2N78 cells contained a greater acidic charge variants than CHO cells. Regarding main glycoforms, degree of galactosylation was 52% in CT-A produced from F2N78 cells compared to CHO cells (37%). For sialic acid forms, α-2,6-linked sialic acid and N-acetylneuraminic acid (NANA) residues were observed in antibodies produced from F2N78 cells. In contrast, only α-2,3 linked sialic acid forms were detected in antibodies produced from CHO cells, and NANA and N-glycolylneuraminic acid were detected. Hybrid structure and bisecting structure were only observed in F2N78 cells. F2N78 cells stably produced antibodies with human specific N-glycan. The novel expression system based on human cells may facilitate the development of an alternative host cell for production of recombinant proteins.

It is well known that borehole fluid effects in crosshole electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) can produce serious image artifacts using conventional inversion algorithms that do not account for borehole effects. Using the analytical solution for an infinitely long borehole model in a half-space, we demonstrated that the borehole effects depend on the borehole radius and on the resistivity contrast between the borehole fluid and the surrounding rock formation. The results also show that the borehole effects arise mainly for the inline data where the current and potential electrodes are placed at the same borehole, and they are not severe for the crosshole data. To overcome the borehole effects in the crosshole ERT surveys, we developed a new 2.5D inversion algorithm incorporating the boreholes. The new inversion algorithm yielded an electrical resistivity image that was devoid of artifacts around the boreholes.

Background: Genetic variants may play a role in determining the location of cerebral atherosclerosis. We aimed to investigate the association between RNF213, MMP2, and genetic polymorphisms linked to vascular tortuosity with the location of cerebral arterial atherosclerosis. Methods: A prospective case-control study was conducted on patients with ischemic stroke and age- and sex-matched stroke-free controls. The stroke patients were categorized into those with intracranial artery atherosclerosis (ICAS), extracranial artery atherosclerosis (ECAS), and small vessel occlusion (SVO). Six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) including rs2118181 (FBN1), rs2179357 (SLC2A10), rs1036095 (TGFBR2), rs243865 (MMP2), rs1800470 (TGFB1), and rs112735431 (RNF213) were analyzed with the TaqMan Genotyping Assay, and the distribution of genotypes across groups was compared. Results: None of the 6 SNPs were associated with stroke on comparing the 449 stroke patients (71 with ECAS, 169 with ICAS, and 209 with SVO) to the 447 controls. In the subgroup analysis, the adjusted odds ratios (aORs) for age and sex indicated a significant association between rs112735431 and ICAS in the allele comparison analysis and in the additive and dominant model analyses. rs112735431 was associated with anterior circulation involvement and increased burden of cerebral atherosclerosis. rs2179357 was significantly associated with ICAS in the recessive model analysis, and rs1800470 was significantly associated with ECAS in the recessive model analysis when compared to controls. Conclusion: rs112735431 was associated with ICAS and increased atherosclerosis burden in Korean stroke patients. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of rs112735431 and to confirm the association of rs2179357 and rs1800470 with cerebral atherosclerosis.

Accumulating evidence indicates that sex of adolescents is a major factor affecting mental health. This study aimed to compare mental health profiles and longitudinal effects of various factors on mental health between male and female adolescents using the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. Results showed that females were more depressed, aggressive, and likely to develop somatic symptoms than males, while males exhibited more attention deficits than females. Moreover, abusive parenting behavior was associated with a lower level of mental health in both male and female adolescents. In addition, we found significant differences in the effects of individual factors (subjective health status and smartphone addiction), family-related factors (living with both parents, working mother, and neglectful parenting behavior), and school-related factors (school adjustment and satisfaction with grades) on mental health between male and female adolescents. These findings indicate sex differences in adolescent mental health profiles in South Korea. Further studies are needed to develop comprehensive mental health strategies that consider personal, family, and school-related factors and sex differences.

Purpose Cigarette smoking (CS) is one of the major risk factors of cerebral atherosclerotic disease, however, its level of contribution to extracranial and intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ECAS and ICAS) was not fully revealed yet. The purpose of our study was to assess the association of CS to cerebral atherosclerosis along with other risk factors. Materials and Methods All consecutive patients who were angiographically confirmed with severe symptomatic cerebral atherosclerotic disease between January 2002 and December 2012 were included in this study. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify risk factors for ECAS and ICAS. Thereafter, CS group were compared to non-CS group in the entire study population and in a propensity-score matched population with two different age-subgroups. Background: Decompressive hemicraniectomy reduces secondary brain injury related to brain edema and increased intracranial pressure (ICP) in patients with malignant middle cerebral artery infarction (MMI). However, a substantial proportion of patients still die despite hemicraniectomy due to refractory brain swelling. Objective: We aim to investigate whether ICP measured immediately after hemicraniectomy may indicate decompression effects and predict survival in patients with MMI. Methods: We included 25 patients with MMI who underwent ICP monitoring and brain computed tomography within the first hour of hemicraniectomy. Midline shifts were measured as radiological surrogates of decompression. The Glasgow Coma Scale and pupillary enlargements during the first day after hemicraniectomy were assessed as clinical surrogates of decompression. Long-term survival status at 6 months was used as the final outcome. We analyzed the relationships between early ICP and findings of midline shift, Glasgow Coma Scale, pupillary enlargement, and survival. Results: Initial ICP was correlated with mean ICP ( P < .001) and maximal ICP ( P < .001) during the first postoperative day. Intracranial pressure was associated with midline shifts ( P = .009), lower Glasgow Coma Scale scores ( P = .025), and the pupillary enlargement ( P = .015). Sixteen (64.0%) patients survived at 6 months. In a Cox proportional hazard model, elevated ICP was associated with mortality at 6 months (hazard ratio: 1.13; 95% confidence interval: 1.03-1.24; P = .008). Conclusion: Increase in ICP soon after hemicraniectomy was associated with midline shift, poor neurological status, and mortality in patients with MMI. Measurements of ICP soon after hemicraniectomy may permit earlier interventions as well as more refined clinical assessments.
