1. Ozone therapy for high-grade glioma: an overview

Abstract: High-grade gliomas (grades III and IV) are highly malignant and aggressive brain tumors that present significant treatment challenges. Despite advances in surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, the prognosis for patients with glioma remains poor, with a median overall survival (mOS) range of 9–12 months. Therefore, exploring new and effective therapeutic strategies to improve glioma prognosis is of utmost importance and ozone therapy is a viable option. Ozone therapy has been used in various cancers, such as colon, breast, and lung, yielding significant results in preclinical studies and clinical trials. Only a few studies have been conducted on gliomas. Furthermore, since the metabolism of brain cells involves aerobic glycolysis, ozone therapy may improve the oxygen condition and enhance glioma radiation treatment. However, understanding the correct ozone dosage and optimal time of administration remains challenging. Herein, we hypothesize that ozone therapy should be more effective in gliomas compared with other tumors. This study provides an overview of the use of ozone therapy in high-grade glioma, including mechanisms of action, preclinical data, and clinical evidence.

2. Quantitative analysis of high-resolution computed tomography features of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: a structure-function correlation study

Abstract: BACKGROUND: The quantitative analysis of high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) is increasingly being used to quantify the severity and evaluate the prognosis of disease. Our aim was to quantify the HRCT features of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and identify their association with pulmonary function tests. METHODS: This was a retrospective, single-center, clinical research study. Patients with IPF were retrospectively included. Pulmonary segmentation was performed using the deep learning-based method. Radiologists manually segmented 4 findings of IPF, including honeycombing (HC), reticular pattern (RE), traction bronchiectasis (TRBR), and ground glass opacity (GGO). Pulmonary vessels were segmented with the automatic integration segmentation method. All segmentation results were quantified by the corresponding segmentation software. Correlations between the volume of the 4 findings on HRCT, volume of the lesions at different sites, pulmonary vascular-related parameters, and pulmonary function tests were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 101 IPF patients (93 males) with a median age of 63 years [interquartile range (IQR), 58 to 68 years] were included in this study. 3. Dextro-transposition of the great arteries in one twin: case reports and literature review

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Dextro-transposition of the great arteries (D-TGA) is a rare congenital heart disease, as it affects only 0.02–0.05% of live births. It is the second most common cyanotic heart disease following Tetralogy of Fallot. It has a male predominance. Fetal echocardiography is an optimal method for prenatal diagnosis of fetal D-TGA. In twin pregnancies, fetal D-TGA in one twin is very rare, especially in monochorionic-diamniotic twin pregnancies. Herein, we report a case of D-TGA in one twin in two dichorionic-diamniotic twin pregnancies and one monochorionic-diamniotic twin pregnancy from January 2018 to June 2021. CASE DESCRIPTION: One twin with D-TGA was diagnosed by fetal echocardiography in the second trimester, and the co-twin was normal in all three cases. A multidisciplinary team provided extensive counseling regarding the D-TGA twin and the co-twin, and adequate perinatal management was provided. In cases 1, 2, and 3, the mothers underwent cesarean sections at 37 weeks + 2 days, 34 weeks + 5 days, and 36 weeks + 1 day, respectively. In case 1, which involved a female D-TGA neonate with birth weight 2,410 g, an emergent atrial septostomy was performed at 20 h after birth, and the neonate underwent atrial switch operation (ASO) 24 days after birth. In case 2, involving a male D-TGA neonate with a birth weight of 2,380 g, ASO was performed 24 days after birth. In case 3, involving a female D-TGA neonate with birth weight 2,240 g, ASO was performed 19 days after birth and delayed sternal closure was performed 4 days later. All six infants showed normal development during follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Early antenatal diagnosis of D-TGA in one fetus of a twin pregnancy is significantly important. A multidisciplinary team should carry individual evaluation and integrated management of the D-TGA twin and co-twin during the pregnancy and perinatal period. After birth, delayed ductus arteriosus closure in the D-TGA twins should be performed when necessary and individualized timings for arterial switch operation should be considered.

4. Machine learning algorithms to predict atypical metastasis of colorectal cancer patients after surgical resection

Abstract: BackgroundThe prognosis of colorectal cancer with atypical metastasis is poor. However, atypical metastasis was less common and under-appreciated.MethodsIn this study we attempted to present the first machine learning models to predict the risk of atypical metastasis in colorectal cancer patients. We evaluated the differences between metastasis and non-metastasis groups, assessed factors associated with atypical metastasis using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, and preliminarily developed the multiple machine learning models to predict atypical metastasis.Results168 patients were included. Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) [OR = 0.998; P = 0.030], Cancer antigen 19–9 (CA19-9) [OR = 1.011; P = 0.043] and MR-Distance [-mid OR = 0.289; P = 0.009] [-high OR = 0.248; P = 0.021] were shown to be independent risk factors for the atypical metastasis via multivariate analysis. Furthermore, the machine learning model based on AdaBoost algorithm (AUC: 0736) has better predictive performance comparing to Logistic Regression (AUC: 0.671) and KNeighbors Classifier (AUC: 0.618) by area under the curve (AUC) in the validation cohorts. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the model trained using the Adaboost method in the validation set are 0.786, 0.776 and 0.700, while 0.601, 0.933, 0.508 using Logistic Regression and 0.743, 0.390, 0.831 using KNeighbors Classifier.ConclusionMachine-learning approaches containing PNI, CA19-9 and MR-Distance show great potentials in atypical metastasis prediction.

Abstract: In recent years, novel view synthesis has gained popularity in generating high-fidelity images. While demonstrating superior performance in the task of synthesizing novel views, the majority of these methods are still based on the conventional multi-layer perceptron for scene embedding. Furthermore, light field models suffer from geometric blurring during pixel rendering, while radiance field-based volume rendering methods have multiple solutions for a certain target of density distribution integration. To address these issues, we introduce the Convolutional Neural Radiance Fields to model the derivatives of radiance along rays. Based on 1D convolutional operations, our proposed method effectively extracts potential ray representations through a structured neural network architecture. Besides, with the proposed ray modeling, a proposed recurrent module is employed to solve geometric ambiguity in the fully neural rendering process. 12. Rice and millet cultivated in Ha Long Bay of Northern Vietnam 4000 years ago

Abstract: Research has generally outlined that the Neolithic East Asian farmers expanded into Southeast Asia, leading to substantial social and cultural transformations. However, the associated archaeobotanical evidence until now has been insufficient to clarify the exact timing, dispersal route, and farming package of the emergence of agriculture in Mainland Southeast Asia. To clarify these issues, the micro-plant remains of phytolith and starch from three Neolithic sites in Ha Long Bay were extracted and analyzed. This study validates the earliest evidence of co-cropping in northern Vietnam, involving the cultivation of rice together with foxtail millet at 4000 years BP or slightly earlier. Moreover, the results indicate that at least two patterns of subsistence strategy were practiced simultaneously during the initial farming phase in the region. The Trang Kenh people, a regional variant of the Phung Nguyen cultural group often have been seen as the first farmers in northern Vietnam, and they mainly practiced a cereal-based subsistence strategy with more vital cultural characteristics of southern China origin. Meanwhile, the Ha Long people, mainly composed of indigenous hunter-gatherer descendants, continued to utilize a wide range of their preferred plant resources such as taros, yams, and acorns, while they absorbed and incorporated new elements such as millet and rice into their food system. This study provides solid information to understand the diverse economic systems among different cultural groups in Vietnam.

13. Before Rice and the First Rice: Archaeobotanical Study in Ha Long Bay, Northern Vietnam

Abstract: Mainland Southeast Asia experienced a long, sustained period of foraging economy before rice and millet farming spread into this area prior to 4,000 years BP. Although hundreds of individuals from dense cemeteries are found in several hunter-gatherer sites in Guangxi, Southern China, and Northern Vietnam, dating from the early to middle Holocene (ca. 9,000–4,500 years BP), so far, little has been known about food sources in these pre-farming contexts. In particular, plant food resources have been unclear, although they likely were crucial to supporting rather large populations of hunter-gatherers in this region. To investigate this issue, micro plant remains, including starches and phytoliths, were recovered from stone tools excavated at the Cai Beo site in Ha Long Bay of coastal Northeastern Vietnam, and those findings revealed new understanding of the ancient diet. Examinations of those residues indicated that the hunter-gatherers at Cai Beo as early as 7,000–6,000 years BP exploited a broad spectrum of plants, such as taros, yams, acorns, palms, and more. This study exemplifies how maritime hunter-gatherers interfaced with the local plants and generated population growth from about 7,000 to 4,500 years BP. The results help us to conceptualize the early exploitation, management, and potential cultivation of subtropical and tropical plants over the broad geography of Asia and the Pacific before the arrival of rice and millet farming. In particular, the result validates the significance of roots and tubers in the ancient subsistence economy of Southeast Asia. Moreover, from the archaeological context of 4,500 to 4,000 years BP, the rice discovered in this study represents one of the earliest known in Mainland Southeast Asia.

14. Chest wall muscle mass depletion is related to certain pulmonary functions and diseases in patients with bronchiectasis

Abstract: Background and objective Many bronchiectasis patients suffer dyspnea, decreased exercise tolerance, and low body mass index. Chest wall muscles play a special role in respiratory movement and make up parts of skeletal muscles. This study aimed to examine the chest wall muscle thickness and their relationship with disease severity in bronchiectasis. Methods We retrospectively included 166 patients with bronchiectasis and 62 patients with pneumonia as comparators. The thickness of chest wall muscle as determined in chest CT, pulmonary function, and Bronchiectasis Severity Index (BSI) score were recorded. We compared the thickness of the chest wall muscle in two groups and assessed the relationships among chest wall muscle thickness, pulmonary function, and BSI score. Results Chest wall muscle thickness of the anterior midclavicular line and posterior exterior scapula were thinner in bronchiectasis patients than comparators both above the aortic arch level and at the aortic arch window level. Muscle thickness of the posterior interior scapula above the aortic arch level was significantly thinner in bronchiectasis patients. Chest wall muscle thickness at the anterior midclavicular line both the above aortic arch level and at the level of the aortic arch window were related to diffuse capacity in bronchiectasis patients. Anterior chest wall muscle thickness above the aortic arch was found to be a risk factor of disease severity. Conclusion Anterior chest wall muscles in the upper and middle chest were thinner in bronchiectasis patients than in comparators, and had relationship with spirometry and diffuse compacity factors. We provide another method to conveniently assess bronchiectasis severity.

15. Long-Acting β2 Adrenergic Receptor Agonist Ameliorates Imiquimod-Induced Psoriasis-Like Skin Lesion by Regulating Keratinocyte Proliferation and Apoptosis

Abstract: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects approximately 1%–5% of the population worldwide. Considering frequent relapse, adverse drug reactions, and large costs of treatment, it is urgent to identify new medications for psoriasis. Keratinocytes play an essential role during psoriasis development, and they express high levels of β2-Adrenergic receptor (β2-AR), which increases intracellular cAMP levels when activated. Increased level of cAMP is associated with the inhibition of epidermal cell proliferation. In the present study, we observed the effect of salmeterol, a long-acting β2-AR agonist, on the proliferation and apoptosis of keratinocytes as well as imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like skin lesions in mice. As phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitors increases intracellular cAMP concentration by inhibiting its inactivation, we further explored the synergetic effect of a PDE4 inhibitor and salmeterol on psoriasis-like skin lesions in mice. Our results indicated that salmeterol effectively inhibited the proliferation of HaCaT cells induced by TNF-α and serum, and this effect was accompanied by significantly increased apoptosis and CREB phosphorylation, which were reversed by the PKA inhibitor, H89. Salmeterol ameliorated imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like skin lesions in mice, but salmeterol combined with a PDE4 inhibitor had no synergetic effect in improving skin lesions in mice. Of note, the synergistic effects of anti-proliferation and induction of apoptosis in HaCaT cells appeared by inhibiting ERK signaling. In summary, salmeterol, a long-acting β2-AR agonist, alleviates the severity of psoriasis via inhibiting the proliferation and promoting apoptosis of keratinocytes, partially by activating the cAMP/PKA signaling pathway.

18. Establishment of a Necroptosis-Related Prognostic Signature to Reveal Immune Infiltration and Predict Drug Sensitivity in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Abstract: Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common type of primary liver cancer and has a poor prognosis. In recent times, necroptosis has been reported to be involved in the progression of multiple cancers. However, the role of necroptosis in HCC prognosis remains elusive.Methods: The RNA-seq data and clinical information of HCC patients were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) databases. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and prognosis-related genes were explored, and the nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) clustering algorithm was applied to divide HCC patients into different subtypes. Based on the prognosis-related DEGs, univariate Cox and LASSO Cox regression analyses were used to construct a necroptosis-related prognostic model. The relationship between the prognostic model and immune cell infiltration, tumor mutational burden (TMB), and drug response were explored.Results: In this study, 13 prognosis-related DEGs were confirmed from 18 DEGs and 24 prognostic-related genes. Based on the prognosis-related DEGs, patients in the TCGA cohort were clustered into three subtypes by the NMF algorithm, and patients in C3 had better survival. A necroptosis-related prognostic model was established according to LASSO analysis, and HCC patients in TCGA and ICGC were divided into high- and low-risk groups. Kaplan–Meier (K–M) survival analysis revealed that patients in the high-risk group had a shorter survival time compared to those in the low-risk group. Using univariate and multivariate Cox analyses, the prognostic model was identified as an independent prognostic factor and had better survival predictive ability in HCC patients compared with other clinical biomarkers. Furthermore, the results revealed that the high-risk patients had higher stromal, immune, and ESTIMATE scores; higher TP53 mutation rate; higher TMB; and lower tumor purities compared to those in the low-risk group. In addition, there were significant differences in predicting the drug response between the high- and low-risk groups. The protein and mRNA levels of these prognostic genes were upregulated in HCC tissues compared to normal liver tissues.Conclusion: We established a necroptosis-related prognostic signature that may provide guidance for individualized drug therapy in HCC patients; however, further experimentation is needed to validate our results.

21. Cofiniteness with respect to extension of Serre subcategories

Abstract: Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be an ideal of a commutative noetherian ring $R$, $\mathcal{S}$ a Serre subcategory of $R$-modules satisfying the condition $C_\mathfrak{a}$ and $\mathcal{N}$ the subcategory of finitely generated $R$-modules. In this paper, we continue the study of $\mathcal{NS}$-$\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite modules with respect to the extension subcategory $\mathcal{NS}$, show that some classical results of $\mathfrak{a}$-cofiniteness hold for $\mathcal{NS}$-$\mathfrak{a}$-cofiniteness in the cases $\mathrm{dim}R=d$ or $\mathrm{dim}R/\mathfrak{a}=d-1$, where $d$ is a positive integer. We also study $\mathcal{NS}$-$\mathfrak{a}$-cofiniteness of local cohomology modules and the modules $\mathrm{Ext}^i_R(N,M)$ and $\mathrm{Tor}_i^R(N,M)$., Comment: 14 pages, comments welcome

22. Hartshorne's question on cofinite complexes

Abstract: Let $\mathfrak{a}$ be a proper ideal of a commutative noetherian ring $R$ and $d$ a positive integer. We answer Hartshorne's question on cofinite complexes completely in the cases $\mathrm{dim}R=d$ or $\mathrm{dim}R/\mathfrak{a}=d-1$ or $\mathrm{ara}(\mathfrak{a})=d-1$, show that if $d\leq2$ then an $R$-complex $X\in\mathrm{D}_\sqsubset(R)$ is $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite if and only if each homology module $\mathrm{H}_i(X)$ is $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite; if $\mathfrak{a}$ is a perfect ideal and $R$ is regular local with $d\leq2$ then an $R$-complex $X\in\mathrm{D}(R)$ is $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite if and only if $\mathrm{H}_i(X)$ is $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite for every $i\in\mathbb{Z}$; if $d\geq3$ then for an $R$-complex $X$ of $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite $R$-modules, each $\mathrm{H}_i(X)$ is $\mathfrak{a}$-cofinite if and only if $\mathrm{Ext}^j_R(R/\mathfrak{a},\mathrm{coker}d_i)$ are finitely generated for $j\leq d-2$. We also study cofiniteness of local cohomology $\mathrm{H}^i_\mathfrak{a}(X)$ for an $R$-complex $X\in\mathrm{D}_\sqsubset(R)$ in the above cases. Epidemiologic data is however unavailable. We aimed to provide an international picture of the extent of pressure injuries and factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries in adult ICU patients. Methods: International 1-day point-prevalence study; follow-up for outcome assessment until hospital discharge (maximum 12 weeks). Factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injury and hospital mortality were assessed by generalised linear mixed-effects regression analysis. Results: Data from 13,254 patients in 1117 ICUs (90 countries) revealed 6747 pressure injuries; 3997 (59.2%) were ICU-acquired. Overall prevalence was 26.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 25.9–27.3). ICU-acquired prevalence was 16.2% (95% CI 15.6–16.8). Sacrum (37%) and heels (19.5%) were most affected. Factors independently associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries were older age, male sex, being underweight, emergency surgery, higher Simplified Acute Physiology Score II, Braden score < 19, ICU stay > 3 days, comorbidities (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, immunodeficiency), organ support (renal replacement, mechanical ventilation on ICU admission), and being in a low or lower-middle income-economy. Gradually increasing associations with mortality were identified for increasing severity of pressure injury: stage I (odds ratio [OR] 1.5; 95% CI 1.2–1.8), stage II (OR 1.6; 95% CI 1.4–1.9), and stage III or worse (OR 2.8; 95% CI 2.3–3.3). Conclusion: Pressure injuries are common in adult ICU patients. ICU-acquired pressure injuries are associated with mainly intrinsic factors and mortality. Optimal care standards, increased awareness, appropriate resource allocation, and further research into optimal prevention are pivotal to tackle this important patient safety threat.

Abstract: This study isolated and characterized a novel polysaccharide (PNPS-0.3) from the residue of Panax notoginseng by gradient elution. PNPS-0.3 mainly consisted of a backbone of →4)- α-D-GalAp-(1 → 4-β-L-Rhap-1 → 4)-β-D-Galp-(1 → residues, with an α-L-Araf-1 → 5)-α-L-Araf-(1 → branch connecting to the backbone at O-3 of →4-β-L-Rhap-1 → and a molecular weight of 76,655 Da. Furthermore, the adjuvant potential of PNPS-0.3 with bone marrow dendritic cells (BMDCs) was investigated. The results suggested that PNPS-0.3 could induce maturation of BMDCs by reshaping the morphology, upregulating the CD40, CD80, CD86 and MHC II membrane phenotypic markers, and by promoting the secretion of TNF-α and IL-12 proinflammatory cytokines. Moreover, PNPS-0.3 can trigger the DC-induced T-cell immune response, as indicated by the higher expressions of CD4, CD8, CD69, and MHC II in T cells with increased secretion of INF-β. Furthermore, PNPS-0.3 can bind to the pattern recognition receptors (PRR) of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR 4), Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR 2), and mannose receptor (MR) on BMDCs. PNPS-0.3 also upregulated the expressions of Myd88, IKKβ, PP65, T-P65, and NF-κB, suggesting that the TLR4/TLR2-NF-κB signaling pathway was involved in the immunomodulatory mechanism. In conclusion, the immunoadjuvant potential of novel PNPS-0.3 was characterized, which is beneficial for the future utilization and development of P. notoginseng.

This article takes ARM9 as the hardware platform and combines the transplantation of Linux and Qt application software to design a general development system for HMI. Using this HMI universal platform, the human-machine interface of the 4-head placement machine is designed. The test results show that the HMI system has a fast response speed, each functional module runs normally, and the graphical interface is friendly, which fully meets the needs of the patch operation.

Abstract: With the development of data achieving ability of high resolution remote sensing satellites and the enhancement of data receiving ability on the ground, the data processing workload of the existing ground application system for remote sensing satellites is growing, and the demand of real-time data processing is increasingly higher. In recent years, stream computing has become a research hotspot due to the high performance for real-time concurrent processing and distributed computing. In this paper, a new real-time processing method of remote sensing satellite data is proposed by the framework of stream computing. Firstly, according to the characteristics of remote sensing data processing, the stream computing is modeled, the processing time of the instance is abstracted, and the multi-task optimization and scheduling methods are given. Then the real-time data processing system of remote sensing satellite is implemented by using this method, and the data tuples, processing components and task topology are redesigned. Finally, the data processing time and throughput rate of the system are tested and analyzed. Experimental results show that the real-time performance of the system is greatly improved.

Abstract: Salicylic acid (SA) and nitric oxide (NO) are key signal molecules involved in the reduction of Al accumulation in many plants. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether they could reduce the root content of Al and/or its binding to the root cell wall (CW) fractions in Panax notoginseng, and to investigate the corresponding regulatory mechanisms. Effects of Al treatments on the endogenous SA and NO contents of P. notoginseng were detected. Exogenous SA and paclobutrazol (PAC, a SA synthesis inhibitor) treatments were conducted to test the effects on endogenous NO content; exogenous sodium nitroprusside (SNP, a NO doner) and 2-phenyl-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl- imidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxyde (cPTIO, a NO synthesis inhibitor) treatments were conducted to test the effects on endogenous SA content. Pectin methyltransferase (PMT) and pectin methylesterase (PME) activity and the gene expression, pectin methylesterification degree (PMD), pectin content, and the accumulation of Al in roots were also studied under the treatments described above. Al stress induced a significant increase of the activity and expression of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), and promoted the significant increase of endogenous SA content of P. notoginseng roots. The Al promoted accumulation of endogenous NO could be enhanced by exogenous SA treatment, but was reduced by PAC. Accumulation of endogenous NO that promoted by Al could be enhanced by exogenous SA treatment, but was reduced by PAC treatment. However, SNP or cPTIO treatments had no significant effect on the Al-induced endogenous SA content of P. notoginseng. This showed that NO acted downstream of SA signaling of P. notoginseng under Al stress. Al stress can increase the activity and genes expression of PME in the roots of P. notoginseng, reduce PMD, increase CW pectin content, and thus, the binding capacity of CW pectin to Al was enhanced in P. notoginseng roots. Exogenous SA or SNP both reduced the Al-binding capacity of root CW pectin by decreasing the pectin content, and increased the PMD by inhibiting the genes expression and activity of PME. The effects of PAC or cPTIO on the above-mentioned indicators under Al stress were opposite to that of exogenous SA or SNP treatments. The Al stress induced accumulation of pectin and the reduction of PMD in the root CW of P. notoginseng could be reversed by the treatments of exogenous SA or SNP, then the Al contents in root CW pectin were reduced. Al stress activated the endogenous SA and NO signaling pathways in P. notoginseng, and NO acted downstream of SA. It showed that the Al-activated NO-SA signaling pathway contributed in the reduction of Al binding to the root under Al stress.

Abstract: Panax notoginseng is normally cultivated in acidic red soil with high soluble Al, however, the distribution pattern of Al in P. notoginseng is unknown. The aim of this study is to investigate the Al distribution in different organs of P. notoginseng grown in different acid soil, in order to get a deeper insight into the Al tolerance mechanism in this species. P. notoginseng was sampled from different sites and subjected to Al determination. Al tolerance and accumulation were investigated by exposing the seedlings to different Al concentrations in hydroponic solution. The expression of pectin methylesterase genes was determined by quantitative RT-PCR. The soil pH ranged from 4.68 to 6.13. The total Al concentration in soil was 76.7–168.5 g·kg−1 and active Al was 1.34–5.01 g·kg−1. Al concentration differed with organs of P. notoginseng, following the order: rootlet > rhizome > main root > leaf and stem. Furthermore, Al concentration in the cell wall, organelle and cytoplasmic supernatant of P. notoginseng was approximately 15:2:1 and most Al in the cell wall was bound to pectin component. Al treatment significantly increased the content of pectin and enhanced the expression of PME3, PME7, and PME40 of P. notoginseng root. P. notoginseng was able to grow under high active Al condition and accumulated high Al in its underground parts. The pectin component in the cell wall was the major binding site of Al of P. notoginseng root.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to assess the genetic diversity of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus circulating in Fujian province (southeastern China). Based on 53 ORF5 nucleotide sequences collected from nine sites, both highly pathogenic (sublineage 8.7) and lineage 1 strains were circulating in Fujian in 2009-2014 along with lineages 3 and 5.1. Notably, the lineage 1 strains were closely related to the NADC30 strain circulating in North America and were the predominant strains in 2014. In addition, we found that nonstructural protein 2 (NSP2) was the most variable nonstructural protein in Fujian isolates, with a 36-amino-acid (aa) insertion and seven different deletions detected in the 53 sequences examined. Similarly, analysis of GP5 amino acid sequences showed that the isolates were highly variable in primary neutralizing epitopes. Interesting, FJ3.2 and FJ7-2 strains have the mutation N44K, but they exhibited high replication and high titers in MARC-145 and PAM cells. The complete genome sequences determined for 12 type 2 isolates were 82.1-99.3% identical and were 15,016-15,407 nucleotides (nt), in length excluding the poly(A) tail. The strains also shared 88.2-99.4% identity with strain VR2332 (the prototype North American strain), 83.4-99.2% identity with strain JXA1 (the prototype high-pathogenicity Chinese strain), 88.2-97.1% identity with strain CH-1a (the prototype classical Chinese strain), and 82.9-97.1% identity with strain NADC30 (the prototype NADC30-like strain). Strikingly, phylogenetic and molecular evolutionary analyses indicated that strain FJW05 is a spontaneous recombinant between a circulating lineage 1 virus and the vaccine strain JXA1-R, which is derived from the highly pathogenic strain JXA-1. Collectively, the data highlight the epidemiology of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome in Fujian and may aid in selecting a suitable vaccine for use on pig farms.

Abstract: From 2014 to 2015, four novel highly pathogenic PRRS virus (HP-PRRSV) strains named 14LY01-FJ, 14LY02-FJ 15LY01-FJ, and 15LY02-FJ were isolated from high morbidity (100%) and mortality (40%-80%) in piglets and sows in Fujian Province. To further our knowledge about these novel virus strains, we characterized their complete genomes and determined their pathogenicity in piglets. Full-length genome sequencing analysis showed that these four isolates were closely related to type 2 (North American type, NA-type) isolates, with 88.1%-96.3% nucleotide similarity, but only 60.6%-60.8% homology to the Lelystad virus (LV) (European type, EU-type). The full length of the four isolates was determined to be 15017 or 15018 nucleotides (nt), excluding the poly(A) tail. Furthermore, the four isolates had three discontinuous deletions (aa 322-432, aa 483, and aa 504-522) within hypervariable region II (HV-II) of Nsp2, as compared to the reference strain VR-2332. This deletion pattern in the four isolates is consistent with strain MN184 and strain NADC30 isolated from America. Phylogenetic and molecular evolutionary analyses indicated that these virulent strains originated from a natural recombination event between the JXA1-like HP-PRRSV (JXA-1 is one of the earliest Chinese HP-PRRSV strains; sublineage 8.7) and the NADC30-like (lineage 1) PRRSV. Animal experiments demonstrated that these four strains caused significant weight loss and severe histopathological lung lesions as compared to the negative control group. High mortality rate (40% or 80%) was found in piglets infected with any one of the four strains, similar to that found with other Chinese HP-PRRSV strains. This study showed that the novel variant PRRSV was HP-PRRSV, and it is therefore critical to monitor PRRSV evolution in China and develop a method for controlling PRRS.

Abstract: NiCrBSiFeCoC (Ni-based) coating was prepared by high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) technique, and its corrosion resistance was deeply investigated by an electrochemical method using a usual hard chromium coating as a reference. Overall, the corrosion resistance of Ni-based coatings was validated to be superior to that of the hard chromium coating in the 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. When the immersion time increased from 1 to 60 days, the corrosion rate of the Ni-based coating increased, but at an almost stable corrosion multiple rate. According to the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data, the total impedance of the Ni-based coating was calculated to be 4.6 KΩ, 2.2 KΩ higher than that of the usual hard chromium coating after 60 days. HVOF coating could work as a better barrier against electrolyte penetration, however, the hard chromium coating was not as good as the Ni-based coating. The corresponding microstructures of the two coatings were also observed to validate their differences in corrosion resistance.

Abstract: NiCrBSi–(Cr3C2–NiCr) coatings were prepared by high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying technique, and their cavitation erosion behaviour was investigated by a magnetostrictive cavitation method. It was observed that in the initial 8 h, cavitation occurred at higher rate, and cumulative mass loss of the two coatings was apparently higher than that of the substrate. Conversely, beyond 12 h, the former was lower than the later, indicating that the coatings depressed the cavitation erosion effectively. This study verified that the cavitation is due to mechanical shock, turbulence of liquid with bubbles and residual stresses, and therefore the formation of cracks and the delamination of coating are induced. Furthermore, an increase in the number of pores results in an increase in damage to the coatings, taking this into account distributions of pores can be termed as a key factor in determining the resistance of cavitation damage.

Abstract: Background The large family of pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) proteins is widely distributed among land plants. Such proteins play vital roles in intron splicing, RNA editing, RNA processing, RNA stability and RNA translation. However, only a small number of PPR genes have been identified in rice. Results In this study, we raised a mutant from tissue-culture-derived plants of Oryza sativa subsp. japonica ‘Zhonghua 11’, which exhibited a lethal chlorosis phenotype from germination to the third-leaf stage. The mutant was designated seedling-lethal chlorosis 1 (slc1). The slc1 mutant leaves showed extremely low contents of photosynthetic pigments and abnormal chloroplast development, and were severely defective in photosynthesis. Map-based cloning of OsSLC1 revealed that a single base (G) deletion was detected in the first exon of Os06g0710800 in the slc1 mutant, which caused a premature stop codon. Knockout and complementation experiments further confirmed that OsSLC1 is responsible for the seedling-lethal chlorosis phenotype in the slc1 mutant. OsSLC1 was preferentially expressed in green leaves, and encoded a chloroplast-localized PPR protein harboring 12 PPR motifs. Loss-of-function of OsSLC1 affected the intron splicing of multiple group II introns, and especially precluded the intron splicing of rps16, and resulted in significant increase in the transcript levels of 3 chloroplast ribosomal RNAs and 16 chloroplast development-related and photosynthesis-related genes, and in significant reduction in the transcript levels of 1 chloroplast ribosomal RNAs and 2 chloroplast development-related and photosynthesis-related genes. Conclusion We characterized a novel chloroplast-localized PPR protein, OsSLC1, which plays a vital role in the intron splicing of multiple group II introns, especially the rps16 intron, and is essential for early chloroplast development and seedling survival in rice.

Abstract: Data-driven models are becoming essential parts in modern mechanical systems, commonly used to capture the behavior of various equipment and varying environmental characteristics. Despite the advantages of these data-driven models on excellent adaptivity to high dynamics and aging equipment, they are usually hungry to massive labels over historical data, mostly contributed by human engineers at an extremely high cost. The label demand is now the major limiting factor to modeling accuracy, hindering the fulfillment of visions for applications. Fortunately, domain adaptation enhances the model generalization by utilizing the labelled source data as well as the unlabelled target data and then we can reuse the model on different domains. However, the mainstream domain adaptation methods cannot achieve ideal performance on time series data, because most of them focus on static samples and even the existing time series domain adaptation methods ignore the properties of time series data, such as temporal causal mechanism. In this paper, we assume that causal mechanism is invariant and present our Causal Mechanism Transfer Network(CMTN) for time series domain adaptation. By capturing and transferring the dynamic and temporal causal mechanism of multivariate time series data and alleviating the time lags and different value ranges among different machines, CMTN allows the data-driven models to exploit existing data and labels from similar systems, such that the resulting model on a new system is highly reliable even with very limited data. We report our empirical results and lessons learned from two real-world case studies, on chiller plant energy optimization and boiler fault detection, which outperforms the existing state-of-the-art method.

Abstract: In this paper, two novel metal-organic frameworks [Cu(bna1)(DMF)]n·nH2O·nCH3OH (complex 1) (H2bna1 = 2,2′-dihydroxy-1,1′-dinaphthyl-6,6′-dicarboxy acid) and [Co(bna2)2(bpy)(H2O)2]n (complex 2) (H2bna2 = 2,2′-dihydroxy-1,1′-Dinaphthyl-4,4′-dicar–boxyacid) have been synthesized under mild conditions and carefully characterized. Crystal structural analysis reveals that complex 1 adopts a 1D infinite chain structure, which forms 2D sheet by π–π weak interactions. Complex 2 possesses 2D sheet structure, where Cobalt ions are recognized as the nodes. So it generated a regular two-dimensional grid with the size of 1.57 × 1.15 nm. Complex 2 assembles into a 3D supramolecular network connected by the hydrogen bonds. IR spectra studies indicate that the coordination mode of carboxyl group of complex 1 and complex 2 are chelating with the metal ions. Abstract: Let $\\mathcal{A}$ be an abelian category with enough projective objects and $(\\mathcal{X},~\\mathcal{Y})$ be a complete and hereditary cotorsion pair in $\\mathcal{A}$. We introduce the Gorenstein $\\mathcal{X}$-derived category, denoted by $\\mathbf{D}_{\\mathcal{G}(\\mathcal{X})}{(\\mathcal{A})}$, and investigate $\\mathbf{D}_{\\mathcal{G}(\\mathcal{X})}{(\\mathcal{A})}$ from different perspectives. When $(\\mathcal{X},~\\mathcal{Y})$ is served as a special cotorsion pair, we obtain some known derived categories, such as Gorenstein derived categories, Gorenstein flat derived categories and so on. The bounded Gorenstein $\\mathcal{X}$-derived category $\\mathbf{D}^{b}{_{\\mathcal{G}(\\mathcal{X})}{(\\mathcal{A})}}$ and bounded derived category $\\mathbf{D}^{b}{(\\mathcal{A})}$ are described via the homology category $\\mathbf{K}^{-,gxb}{(\\mathcal{G}(\\mathcal{X}))}$ related to $\\mathcal{G}(\\mathcal{X})$ and some triangle equivalences are given.

50. Multiscale spatial patterns of species diversity and biomass in subalpine meadows on the east of the Loess Plateau, China

Abstract: Background. Researchers frequently discuss spatial distribution patterns of species diversity and biomass together with their correlations along geographical gradients. Typical subalpine meadows occur widely on the east of the Loess Plateau, China. In recent years, with a rapid development of tourism and pasture husbandry, subalpine meadows have experienced extensive and severe degradation caused by humans in the mountain systems of the Plateau, where their environments are sensitive and fragile, meadows degradation had been increasing, and biodiversity has been threatened seriously. Methods. In our study, we selected nine mountains belonging to four mountain systems from north to south on the east of the plateau. We analyzed five latitudinal and longitudinal gradients together with six elevational gradients to study the spatial distribution patterns of species diversity (including α, β, and γ diversity) and biomass plus with their relationships at various scales. Results. For diversity, α-Diversity manifested unimodal variation patterns in horizontal spaces, peaking at high latitude and low longitude. However, α-diversity was not sensitive to elevation in vertical spaces and tended to decrease with increasing elevation. With increased latitude, longitude, and elevation, β-Diversity diminished; meanwhile, the rate of species turnover decreased and the similarity of community composition enlarged. γ-Diversity demonstrated quadratic function changes that were initially incremental and then decreased with increasing longitude, elevation, and latitude from 37.5° to 40°. For biomass, changes of aboveground biomass (AB) were more obvious along latitudinal gradients, whereas variations of belowground biomass (BB) had smaller differences along longitudinal and latitudinal gradients. More biomass was allocated to BB toward the north and east, whereas total biomass (TB) allocation was more evident at greater latitude than greater longitude. With increased elevation, more TB was also allocated to BB, and the relationship of biomass to elevation was closer in AB. In addition, species diversity had the strongest positive influence on AB. The Patrick and Shannon indices had correlations of power functions with AB and root-to-shoot ratio, respectively, indicating that an allometric model could be used to model relationships between species diversity and biomass. Discussion. The unique geomorphological structures with a series of basins between mountain systems on the east of the Loess Plateau, meant that subalpine meadows were mostly distributed along latitudinal directions, so the spatial distribution of species diversity and biomass was more evident along latitudinal gradients, and thus the response of aboveground biomass was more sensitive to variations of spatial gradients and species diversity.
