Diffuse midline gliomas (DMG), including diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DIPG), are the most lethal of childhood cancers. Palliative radiotherapy is the only established treatment, with median patient survival of 9 to 11 months. ONC201 is a DRD2 antagonist and ClpP agonist that has shown preclinical and emerging clinical efficacy in DMG. However, further work is needed to identify the mechanisms of response of DIPGs to ONC201 treatment and to determine whether recurring genomic features influence response. Using a systems-biological approach, we showed that ONC201 elicits potent agonism of the mitochondrial protease ClpP to drive proteolysis of electron transport chain and tricarboxylic acid cycle proteins. DIPGs harboring PIK3CA mutations showed increased sensitivity to ONC201, whereas those harboring TP53 mutations were more resistant. Metabolic adaptation and reduced sensitivity to ONC201 was promoted by redox-activated PI3K/Akt signaling, which could be counteracted using the brain penetrant PI3K/Akt inhibitor, paxalisib. Together, these discoveries coupled with the powerful anti-DIPG/DMG pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of ONC201 and paxalisib have provided the rationale for the ongoing DIPG/DMG phase II combination clinical trial NCT05009992. Significance: PI3K/Akt signaling promotes metabolic adaptation to ONC201-mediated disruption of mitochondrial energy homeostasis in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, highlighting the utility of a combination treatment strategy using ONC201 and the PI3K/Akt inhibitor paxalisib.

Microplastic contamination has become a topic of interest and concern worldwide due to its persistence and the possible effects it may cause to the environment. When microplastics are present, they can alter their physical properties, negatively affecting the surrounding fauna, such as sea turtles that use the beaches to nest in the sand. In this study, the exposure of sea turtle nests to microplastics on the beaches of Nautla and Vega de Alatorre, Veracruz, one of the main nesting areas for the green turtle Chelonia mydas, as well as Kemp’s ridley turtle Lepidochelis kempii from the Gulf of Mexico, was determined. Sand samples were obtained directly from the nests in situ on four beaches in the area and from two nesting pens, revealing the presence of microplastics in 100% of the nests in situ, with an average abundance of 2.43 ± 2.66 #MP/kg SS and a concentration of 0.00672 ± 0.02286 mgMP/kg SS, predominantly the form of foam, white in color, and from 1 to 2 mm in size.

The organic carbon (Corg) stored in seagrass meadows is globally significant and could be relevant in strategies to mitigate increasing CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. Most of that stored Corg is in the soils that underlie the seagrasses. We explored how seagrass and soil characteristics vary among seagrass meadows across the geographic range of turtlegrass (Thalassia testudinum) with a goal of illuminating the processes controlling soil organic carbon (Corg) storage spanning 23° of latitude. Seagrass abundance (percent cover, biomass, and canopy height) varied by over an order of magnitude across sites, and we found high variability in soil characteristics, with Corg ranging from 0.08 to 12.59% dry weight. Seagrass abundance was a good predictor of the Corg stocks in surficial soils, and the relative importance of seagrass-derived soil Corg increased as abundance increased. These relationships suggest that first-order estimates of surficial soil Corg stocks can be made by measuring seagrass abundance and applying a linear transfer function. The relative availability of the nutrients N and P to support plant growth was also correlated with soil Corg stocks. Stocks were lower at N-limited sites than at P-limited ones, but the importance of seagrass-derived organic matter to soil Corg stocks was not a function of nutrient limitation status. This finding seemed at odds with our observation that labile standard substrates decomposed more slowly at N-limited than at P-limited sites, since even though decomposition rates were 55% lower at N-limited sites, less Corg was accumulating in the soils. The dependence of Corg stocks and decomposition rates on nutrient availability suggests that eutrophication is likely to exert a strong influence on carbon storage in seagrass meadows.

Las consecuencias del cambio climático en los cultivos son motivo de preocupación, ya que éstos no pueden adaptarse rápidamente a las nuevas amenazas patógenas. En este artículo se hace una revisión sobre el uso global de modelos matemáticos en fitosanidad durante el periodo 2000-2020; a través, de Scopus y Google Académico. El objetivo del estudio es presentar la modelación y simulación como una opción en la protección de cultivos ante los riesgos meteorológicos o variaciones que se producen por el calentamiento global. La modelación matemática no es en sí un fin, sino una herramienta que ayuda en la toma de decisiones para el manejo sustentable de los cultivos. La predicción del riesgo de ocurrencia de una plaga o enfermedad favorece la reducción de uso de pesticidas disminuyendo así las pérdidas económicas y el daño al ambiente. Por otra parte, la simulación o solución numérica de los modelos matemáticos, permite la exploración de hipótesis, es un medio invaluable en la investigación, ya que permite explorar posibles escenarios futuros y encontrar opciones de sistemas de manejo que en algún momento serán necesarias. En México es necesario realizar investigaciones para la generación e implementación de modelos matemáticos que permitan un menor costo de producción y menor impacto negativo a la salud humana y al ambiente.

Objective. To identify the associated factors to the consumption of non-nutritive sweeteners (NNS) in the Mexican adult population since its consumption has increased exponentially worldwide. Materials and methods. An online survey was applied to 5 038 Mexican adults to evaluate the frequency of NNS consumption and classify the population in tertiles. The sociodemographic, lifestyle and health status characteristics of the participants were compared by gradient of NNS consumption, and a multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine the associated factors to the NNS consumption. Results. The variables that showed a positive association (p≤0.01) with the consumption of NNS were economic income, BMI, smoking, physical activity, diet quality, the presence of chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemias), and the consumption of fruit. La actividad física (AF) es fundamental para el desarrollo de una vida saludable. Sin embargo, los profesores del sistema educacional chileno tienen extensas jornadas laborales y actividades curriculares, lo que podría restringir la práctica de actividad física y con ello, favorecer el deterioro de su calidad de vida. El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar la relación entre el nivel de actividad física y calidad de vida relacionada con la salud de profesores de ambos sexos de colegios públicos. Este estudio es de tipo cuantitativo, descriptivo-correlacional y evalúo 70 profesores de educación primaria de ambos géneros (19 hombres y 51 mujeres) entre 20 a 60 años pertenecientes a 5 colegios públicos de la ciudad de la ciudad de Villa Alegre, Chile, obtenidos a través de un muestro no probabilístico por conveniencia. Se utilizó el International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) versión corta y el cuestionario Short From Health Survey (SF-36) para medir la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud. Se realizó la prueba no paramétrica de Spearman para establecer la correlación entre variables. Como resultado destaca que existe una relación débil entre el nivel de AF con las dimensiones función física (p=0,003; r= 0,348), rol físico (p=0,026; r= 0,266), salud general (=0,012; r= 0,299) y una relación moderada con dolor corporal (p=0,001 r= 0,425). Similares resultados se observaron al separar a la muestra por sexo. Considerando que los profesores actualmente se ven expuestos a una alta carga laboral y mental que trae consigo dolor, alteraciones físicas y emocionales, es sumamente necesario promover la practica regular y sistemática de AF en esta población. Physical activity (PA) is fundamental for the development of a healthy life; however, the teachers of the Chilean educational system have extensive working hours and curricular activities, which could restrict the practice of physical activity and with it, favor the deterioration of their quality of life. The objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between the level of physical activity and health-related quality of life of teachers of both sexes from public schools. This study is of a quantitative, descriptive-correlational type and evaluated 70 teachers at primary school of both genders (19 men and 51 women) between 20- and 60-years old belonging to 5 public schools in the city of Villa Alegre, Chile obtained through a non-probability sampling for convenience. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short version and the Short From Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaire were used to measure health-related quality of life. Spearman's non-parametric test was performed to establish the correlation between variables. As a result, it stands out that there is a weak relationship between the level of PA with the dimensions physical function (p=0.003; r= 0.348), physical role (p=0.026; r= 0.266), general health (=0.012; r= 0.299) and a moderate relationship with bodily pain (p=0.001; r= 0.425). Similar results were observed when separating the sample by sex. Considering that teachers are currently exposed to a high work and mental load that brings with it pain, physical and emotional alterations, it is extremely necessary to promote the regular and systematic practice of PA in this population. Introduction: The purpose of this study is to assess the evolution of motor coordination deficits in upper limbs in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Methods: This is a narrative review of studies monitoring the PRISMA guidelines that were followed during the design, research, and reporting. Results: The articles were screened by reading the titles and abstracts or full articles. This process resulted in a total of 11 studies that met the selection criteria and were therefore included in the narrative review and considered eligible for quality assessment through the MINORS scale, NIH quality assessment tool for Observational Cohort and Cross-Sectional Studies and CASP checklist. Conclusion: Factors that include body structures and functions, time and age of the child, the relationship between factors, and assessment tools can influence the assessment and presentation of upper limb coordination in children with CP. High level research that focuses on interventions that address the factors found in this review are warranted. Keywords: cerebral palsy, children, upper extremity.

Como estrategia para contener los efectos de la crisis social y económica generada por la pandemia de la COVID-19, la Fundación WWB Colombia diseñó e implementó el Plan Reactívate para fortalecer la actividad económica y comercial de emprendedoras y emprendedores por necesidad del Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Así, el objetivo de este artículo es el de presentar la evaluación de impacto del Plan Reactívate usando la metodología cuantitativa cuasiexperimental propensity score matching y métodos cualitativos para validar los impactos logrados. Entre los resultados se tiene que la brecha en términos de la recuperación de ingresos entre los emprendimientos participantes del Plan y los no participantes, fue al menos del 40 % mostrando la importancia de este tipo de programas para fomentar la recuperación económica en este tipo de unidades productivas y la necesidad de diseñar políticas y programas focalizados para el fortalecimiento de los emprendimientos.

An analysis of the documentation of wild animals received by Cetras/IEF from Patos de Minas, MG, Brazil, during the year 2020 was carried out, obtaining data on the origin of animals, release and death rates, permanence in captivity and data on clinical conditions at the arrival. During the period, 1,306 animals were received, 86.9% of which were birds. The most common form of admission was apprehension by competent authority (36.1%), followed by voluntary delivery (33.2%) and collection in urban/rural areas (30.8%). Of the total, 44.3% animals were reintroduced, 39% died, 10% remained at Cetras until the end of the period and 6.7% were destined to other institutions. Injured animals and offspring had a mortality rate of approximately 50%. It is observed that the voluntary delivery has increased and almost equaled the apprehensions. The reintroduction rate is considered satisfactory in relation to similar institutions.

26. Risk of melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer with immunosuppressants, part I: Calcineurin inhibitors, thiopurines, IMDH inhibitors, mTOR inhibitors, and corticosteroids

Immunosuppression is a well-documented risk factor for skin cancer, as exemplified by the 65- to 250-fold higher squamous cell carcinoma risk, 10-fold higher basal cell carcinoma risk, and 0 to 8-fold higher melanoma risk in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs) receiving potent, prolonged courses of immunosuppressive therapies. Numerous immune system components have been shown to either suppress or promote tumor growth, and immunosuppressive drugs may have additional effects on proliferative pathways independent of the immune system. Thus, evaluation of the specific regimen by the dermatologist is key for assessing skin cancer risk in each patient. In the present manuscript, the immune-mediated mechanisms of skin cancer development and regression are first reviewed. Next, a synthesis of the evidence shows the differing effects of immunosuppressive agents commonly used in SOTRs on melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer risk. These include systemic calcineurin inhibitors, thiopurines, IMDH (inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase) inhibitors, mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) inhibitors, and systemic corticosteroids. Finally, recommendations for skin cancer screening in SOTRs are discussed. We further offer recommendations for select nontransplant patients who may benefit from routine skin cancer screening due to risks associated with specific immunosuppressant exposure, and we propose evidence-based strategies for minimizing high-risk immunosuppressant use in clinical practice.

27. Abstract OT2-11-01: A phase 1 study of the novel immunotoxin MT-5111 in patients with HER2+ tumors: interim results

MT-5111 is a 55kD engineered toxin body targeting HER2 in solid tumors that binds to an epitope distinct from trastuzumab and pertuzumab, offering potential combination strategies with other HER2-targeting agents. MT-5111 works by internalizing, self-routing through intracellular compartments to the cytosol, and inducing potent cell-kill via the enzymatic and permanent inactivation of ribosomes. This is a phase 1 study in adults with advanced HER2+ solid tumors. MT-5111 is dosed weekly IV over 30 min in every 21-day cycle until disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, death, or withdrawn consent. The study has dose escalation (Part A) cohorts enrolling patients (pts) with any HER2+ cancer (CA) and expansion (Part B) cohorts for HER2+ breast cancer (BC), Gastric or Gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (GEA), or other HER2+ solid CA. As of 30 June 2022, 42 total pts had enrolled (36 in Part A on 0.5-23 µg/kg/dose, 6 pts with BC in Part B1 on 10 µg/kg/dose). Median age 65 years, 28 (66.78%) pts were female, median of 4 prior systemic and 2 prior HER2-targeting treatment (tx). 17 pts with BC, 6 with biliary CA, 9 with GEA, and 10 with other solid CA have enrolled. Of the 17 BC pts, 15 received ≥ 10 µg/kg/dose. Tx emergent adverse events (TEAEs) have been reported in 40 (95%) pts, and tx-related AEs (TRAE) occurred in 23 (55%) pts. No pt experienced G4-G5 TRAE. G1 troponin elevations were noted in 5 pts without clinical signs of cardiotoxicity (1 pt 6.75 µg/kg, 2 pts 10 µg/kg, 1 pt 17 µg/kg, 1 pt 23 µg/kg). Reversible G1/G2 infusion-related reactions were reported in 2 pts. Tx-related G1-G3 rash was observed in 5 pts (4 pts ≥ 10 µg/kg/dose); maculopapular in 2 pts, acneiform in 1 pt and associated with pruritus in 3 pts. The G3 rash developed one wk after first dose of 23 µg/kg, was declared a DLT, improved with systemic steroid therapy and the pt continued tx at the same dose without recurrence. Best overall response per RECIST thus far is stable disease (SD) in 17 pts, non-CR/non-PD in 1 pt, and progressive disease (PD) in 14 pts. 1 pt had non-CR/non-PD for 30 wks (1 μg/kg, BC); 1 pt had SD for 24wks (10 μg/kg, pancreatic); 1 pt is on tx with SD through 8 cycles (10 μg/kg, BC). Of the 10 BC pts who received ≥ 10 μg/kg/dose, the best response was 5 SD. The mean serum concentration of MT-5111 has increased in a dose-proportional manner starting at 6.75µg/kg/dose (Table 1). The soluble HER2 (sHER2) levels at end of tx were higher compared to baseline in cohorts that received ≤ 4.5µg/kg/dose, but similar or lower in cohorts that received ≥ 6.75µg/kg/dose. Higher MT-5111 doses have been well tolerated and may saturate circulating sHER2, leading to more predictable serum concentrations and tumor penetration. The Cmax in humans at doses ≥6.75 µg/kg/dose is above the in vitro IC50 for high HER2+ cell lines (0.029nM) and at 17 µg/kg/dose, above the IC50 for moderate HER2+ cells (1.6nM). In conclusion, the dose proportionate increase in serum concentration with levels above the in vitro IC50 and the leveling off/reduction of sHER2 indicate exposure to MT-5111 is at clinically therapeutic levels. Skin toxicity at higher doses may indicate on-target effect as observed in other EGFR-targeted therapies where it is associated with clinical response and a better prognosis. sHER2 biomarker data is expected for all cohorts with PK correlation and 23µg/kg safety and efficacy data. 28. Clinical Laboratory Approaches for Diagnoses of Sleep-Disordered Breathing and ADHD-Like Behavior in Children

Background Impaired breathing during sleep, as in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), can lead to behavior symptoms like those observed in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Obstructive sleep apnea can be effectively treated, thus avoiding problematic pharmacotherapies associated with managing ADHD. Diagnosis of OSA relies on sleep studies as the gold standard, but in children, sleep studies are inherently difficult, cumbersome, and expensive and are not practical tools in the differential diagnosis of behavior disorders. Therefore, development of clinical laboratory tests for diagnoses of sleep apnea would change the standard of care for attention deficit syndromes. Content We review the status of potential laboratory tests for diagnosis of OSA in children with emphasis on markers linked to intermittent hypoxia and cardiovascular responses. In the context of ADHD, we focus on preliminary evidence and rationale for urocortin 3 and erythropoietin as urinary markers with physiologic relevance for diagnosis of OSA. Summary Laboratory tests that correlate with both OSA and ADHD-like syndromes would be useful to diagnose root causes of behaviors and identify a subset of children who may not need psychotropic medications. The discovery of laboratory biomarkers for OSA is evolving, but several candidates show promise and provide a segue to more focused development in laboratory diagnostics.

29. Origination of the modern-style diversity gradient 15 million years ago

The latitudinal diversity gradient (LDG) is a prevalent feature of modern ecosystems across diverse clades1,2,3,4. Recognized for well over a century, the causal mechanisms for LDGs remain disputed, in part because numerous putative drivers simultaneously covary with latitude1,3,5. The past provides the opportunity to disentangle LDG mechanisms because the relationships among biodiversity, latitude and possible causal factors have varied over time6,7,8,9. Here we quantify the emergence of the LDG in planktonic foraminifera at high spatiotemporal resolution over the past 40 million years, finding that a modern-style gradient arose only 15 million years ago. Spatial and temporal models suggest that LDGs for planktonic foraminifera may be controlled by the physical structure of the water column. Steepening of the latitudinal temperature gradient over 15 million years ago, associated with an increased vertical temperature gradient at low latitudes, may have enhanced niche partitioning and provided more opportunities for speciation at low latitudes. Supporting this hypothesis, we find that higher rates of low-latitude speciation steepened the diversity gradient, consistent with spatiotemporal patterns of depth partitioning by planktonic foraminifera. Extirpation of species from high latitudes also strengthened the LDG, but this effect tended to be weaker than speciation. Our results provide a step change in understanding the evolution of marine LDGs over long timescales.

32. Análisis espacial y temporal de la enfermedad neumocócica invasora por serotipos resistentes a eritromicina

Resumen Objetivos Estudiar la distribucion espacio-temporal de los casos de enfermedad neumococica invasora (ENI) por serotipos resistentes a eritromicina y su relacion con el consumo comunitario de macrolidos y la cobertura vacunal infantil. Metodos Se seleccionaron los casos de ENI en mayores de 59 anos residentes en la Comunidad de Madrid (CM) notificados en el periodo de 2007 a 2016. Las variables estudiadas fueron obtenidas de los sistemas de informacion vacunal y de Prestacion Farmaceutica. Se utilizo el punto de corte (concentracion minima inhibitoria de eritromicina > 0,5 mg/L) de la clasificacion de EUCAST para definir los serotipos resistentes a eritromicina. Mediante JointPoint se estimaron las tendencias de las incidencias de casos por serotipos resistentes a eritromicina incluidos en la vacuna trecevalente (STVCN13) y no incluidos (STnoVCN13). La asociacion de esas incidencias con el consumo comunitario de macrolidos y la cobertura vacunal se hizo mediante modelos de Poisson. Para la deteccion de clusteres espacio-temporales se utilizo el estadistico Satscan. Resultados Se identificaron 1.936 casos, de ellos, se detecto que 427 serotipos eran resistentes a la eritromicina. La incidencia de todos los casos por serotipos resistentes fue descendente (AAPC: -5,40%). La incidencia de casos por STVCN13 resistentes a la eritromicina fue descendente con un porcentaje anual del cambio (APC: -13,8) y estuvo asociada inversamente a la cobertura vacunal infantil (IRR 0,641), mientras que la de casos por STnoVCN13 resistentes a eritromicina fue ascendente (APC: 4,5) y no se asocio con la cobertura. Se detecto un cluster por STnoVCN13 y ninguno por STVCN13 tras la inclusion de la trecevalente en el calendario vacunal infantil. Conclusiones El descenso de ENI por STVCN13 resistentes se asocio con el incremento de la cobertura vacunal infantil. La presencia de clusteres de casos por STnoVCN13, en el periodo posterior a la inclusion de la VCN13, indica reemplazo de serotipos. El aumento de los casos por STnoVCN13 resistentes podria estar relacionado por el reemplazo de los serotipos vacunales en la colonizacion nasofaringea, facilitada por el consumo de macrolidos todavia a niveles altos en la CM.

We present the results of a model-based search for continuous gravitational waves from the low-mass X-ray binary Scorpius X-1 using LIGO detector data from the third observing run of Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo and KAGRA. This is a semicoherent search which uses details of the signal model to coherently combine data separated by less than a specified coherence time, which can be adjusted to balance sensitivity with computing cost. The search covered a range of gravitational-wave frequencies from 25Hz to 1600Hz, as well as ranges in orbital speed, frequency and phase determined from observational constraints. No significant detection candidates were found, and upper limits were set as a function of frequency. The most stringent limits, between 100Hz and 200Hz, correspond to an amplitude h0 of about 1e-25 when marginalized isotropically over the unknown inclination angle of the neutron star's rotation axis, or less than 4e-26 assuming the optimal orientation. The sensitivity of this search is now probing amplitudes predicted by models of torque balance equilibrium. For the usual conservative model assuming accretion at the surface of the neutron star, our isotropically-marginalized upper limits are close to the predicted amplitude from about 70Hz to 100Hz; the limits assuming the neutron star spin is aligned with the most likely orbital angular momentum are below the conservative torque balance predictions from 40Hz to 200Hz. Mixed method design.Conceptualizing the desired characteristics of a student for a clinical site is vital information during the matching process.The objective of this study was to identify the specific student characteristics preferred by the hand therapy clinician educator.A questionnaire was emailed to members of the American Society of Hand Therapists. A semi structured interview was developed to investigate the topic further. Data was collected and analyzed to determine descriptive statistics and themes regarding the preferred student characteristics.The most common themes found regarding desired student characteristics by hand therapists were students that possess strong interpersonal skills, a willingness to self-study and learn independently, and students that exhibit professional behaviors.If students are successfully matched to clinical placements, this may encourage sites to take students in the future and also reduce the need for the clinical educator or university to address problems that arise during the experience.Hand therapy clinical educators desire students with strong interpersonal skills, a willingness to self-study and learn independently, demonstrate professionalism and clinical reasoning skills, who possess a sincere interest in hand therapy and demonstrate cultural competence when interacting with patients from different backgrounds and social environments. Finally, hand therapy clinical educators want students to be honest about what they know and what they don't know regarding hand therapy.

According to recent research on the application of graphene materials as sensors and particularly polypyrrole-graphene materials, which are especially promising, the functionalization of graphene with a pyrrole molecule might be considered a viable alternative as a NO2 and NH3 sensor. In this way, a graphene sheet simulated as a coronene molecule was used in order to test whether this kind of functionalization could be useful for detecting the NO2 and NH3 toxic gases with a relatively high sensitivity. NO2 was studied as an example of an electron acceptor molecule, and NH3 as an electron donor molecule. Both molecules were adsorbed on two different regions of the functionalized adsorbent, and the energy ranges found for adsorption were reported and compared with those of the pristine graphene. The results indicated that in the coronene-pyrrole system, pyrrole tends to lie almost parallel to the coronene sheet in a π-π stacking interaction between the two conjugated systems, being the closest distances of 3.0 and 3.2 Å. The use of Δ (ΔHOMO-LUMO) as a descriptor confirmed that the coronene-pyrrole system is a good option as a NO2- and NH3-sensor; therefore, it might be an easy and suitable descriptor for characterizing the performance of a sensor; all calculations were made using a Density Functional formalism, through a functional M06-2X in combination with the 6-31G(d,p) basis set.

El daño hepático inducido por medicamentos representa una causa frecuente de falla hepática aguda y engloba una serie de reacciones asociadas a daño directo de las células hepáticas mediante mecanismos inmunes o reacciones idiosincráticas. Su incidencia es difícil de determinar; sin embargo, se reconoce como un efecto adverso poco frecuente. Dependiendo del tipo de alteración enzimática, se pueden dividir en 3 grandes grupos: colestásicas, hepatocelular y mixtas. Debido a la diversidad de mecanismos asociados, la presentación clínica es heterogénea y puede presentarse con distintos grados de severidad, desde pacientes asintomáticos hasta el desarrollo de falla hepática aguda fulminante. Es un diagnóstico de exclusión y se deben descartar todas las posibles causas previo a encasillar a un paciente con este diagnóstico. El tratamiento, en términos generales, consiste en suspender el agente causal junto con tratamiento de soporte; no obstante, dependiendo de la etiología, pueden ofrecerse terapias específicas.

Se utilizó la información financiera de las empresas de producción de lácteos del Ecuador y se aplicó tres medidas de desempeño: Throughput, beneficio neto y rendimiento sobre la inversión para una empresa industrial. Se observó que el Throughput tiende a incrementarse moderadamente sin afectar a la utilidad neta a pesar de que se han generado incrementos o disminuciones progresivas en los gastos operativos e inventarios. Esto conlleva a la generación creciente de dinero en los próximos ejercicios económicos.

Upper Devonian and Lower–Middle Mississippian strata of the North American midcontinent are ubiquitously fine-grained and silt-rich, comprising both so-called shale as well as argillaceous limestone (or calcareous siltstone) that accumulated in the Laurentian epeiric sea. Although long recognized as recording marine deposition, the origin and transport of the fine-grained siliciclastic material in these units remains enigmatic because they do not connect to any proximal deltaic feeder systems. Here, we present new data on grain size, whole-rock geochemistry, mineralogy, and U-Pb detrital-zircon geochronology from units across Oklahoma; we then integrate these data with models of surface wind circulation, refined paleogeographic reconstructions, and correlations from the greater midcontinent to test the hypothesis that wind transported the siliciclastic fraction to the marine system. The exclusively very fine silt to very fine sand grain size, clear detrital origin, widespread distribution over large regions of the epeiric sea, Appalachian sources, and paleogeographic setting in the subtropical arid belt far-removed from contemporaneous deltaic feeder systems are most consistent with eolian transport of dust lofted from subaerial delta plains of the greater Appalachian orogen and incorporated into subaqueous depositional systems. Delivery of dust that was minimally chemically weathered to Devono-Mississippian epeiric seas likely provided essential nutrients that stimulated organic productivity in these commonly organic-rich units.

Paleoclimatic records provide valuable information about Holocene climate, revealing aspects of climate variability for a multitude of sites around the world. However, such data also possess limitations. Proxy networks are spatially uneven, seasonally biased, uncertain in time, and present a variety of challenges when used in concert to illustrate the complex variations of past climate. Paleoclimatic data assimilation provides one approach to reconstructing past climate that can account for the diverse nature of proxy records while maintaining the physics-based covariance structures simulated by climate models. Here, we use paleoclimate data assimilation to create a spatially-complete reconstruction of temperature over the past 12,000 years using proxy data from the Temperature 12k database and output from transient climate model simulations. Following the last glacial period, the reconstruction shows Holocene temperatures warming to a peak near 6,400 years ago followed by a slow cooling toward the present day, supporting a preindustrial global mean surface temperature maximum during the mid-Holocene. Sensitivity tests show that if proxies have an overlooked summer bias, some apparent mid-Holocene warmth could actually represent summer trends rather than annual mean trends. Regardless, the potential effects of proxy seasonal biases are insufficient to align reconstructed global mean temperature with the warming trends seen in transient model simulations.

Green synthesis may be a useful approach to achieve selective cytotoxicity of silver nanoparticles on cancer cells and healthy cells. In this study, the concomitant biosynthesis of silver (Ag)/silver chloride (AgCl) nanoparticles from pineapple peel extracts and their behavior on the breast cancer cell line MCF-7 is shown. Bioreactions were monitored at different temperatures. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–vis), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques were used to characterize nanoparticle development. The breast cancer cell line MCF-7 was used as a test model to study the cytotoxic behavior of Ag/AgCl nanoparticles and, as a counterpart, the nanoparticles were also tested on mononuclear cells. Ag/AgCl nanoparticles with spherical and triangular morphology were obtained. The size of the nanoparticles (10–70 nm) and the size distribution depended on the reaction temperature. A dose close to 20 µg/mL of Ag/AgCl nanoparticles considerably decreased the cell viability of the MCF-7 line. The best cytotoxicity effects on cancer cells were obtained with nanoparticles at 60 and 80 °C where cell viability was reduced up to 80% at a concentration of 50 µg/mL. A significant preference was observed in the cytotoxic effect of Ag/AgCl nanoparticles against cancer cells in comparison to monocytes.

Los hábitats anfibios son ecosistemas naturales en los que conviven los grupos humanos entre agua y tierra e inundación y sequía. El problema es la falta de estudio, ya que desde los autores de referencia hay una brecha de 10 años en los que son necesarios enunciar el asentamiento, tipología de vivienda con materiales y sistemas constructivos. El objetivo consistió en identificar las afectaciones por el cambio climático en una comunidad rural del corregimiento de Bocas del Atrato de Turbo-Antioquia, a través de una investigación colaborativa entre la comunidad, el sector público y la academia por medio de la metodología participativa en construcción “Acciones Transformadoras”. Como resultado se obtuvo la proyectación conceptual de estrategias basadas en la naturaleza y se concluyó que aún deben seguirse estudiando en estos paisajes anfibios en territorios similares para generar diferentes rutas a explotar desde el conocimiento del saber local y la academia, a través del emprendimiento.
