The paper discusses changing conditions of care and domestic work in Greece in the context of the ongoing health crisis, which follows a long period of successive and simultaneous crises (financial, social, pandemic, refugee, war) and extreme neoliberal policies implemented to control them. The focus is on the burden that women (have to) assume in conjunctures which reinstate care (and domestic work) as "women's work", with particular emphasis in the periods of "lockdown" adopted by the government in order to control the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The general overview is supported by research in Athens and material from interviews with women who juggle with space and time as they struggle to care for the self and for others while adhering to personal goals and aspirations, as well as to the "social benefits" of previous decades of relative prosperity. L'article analitza les condicions canviants del treball de cura i domèstic a Grècia en el context de la crisi sanitària, que s'afegeix a un llarg període de crisis successives i simultànies (financera, social, pandèmica, de refugiats i de guerra) i de polítiques neoliberals extremes implementades per controlar-les. El focus se centra en la càrrega que les dones han d'assumir en una situació conjuntural que torna a situar la cura (i el treball domèstic) com a «feina de dones», especialment durant els períodes de «confinament» adoptats pel Govern per controlar la propagació de la pandèmia de COVID-19. La visió general es qualifica a partir de la investigació a Atenes i d'entrevistes a dones que fan malabarismes amb l'espai i el temps per tenir cura de si mateixes i dels altres, alhora que han de mantenir els seus objectius i aspiracions personals i els «drets adquirits» en dècades anteriors de relativa prosperitat. El artículo analiza las condiciones cambiantes del trabajo de cuidado y doméstico en Grecia en el contexto de la crisis sanitaria, que se añade a un largo período de crisis sucesivas y simultáneas (financiera, social, pandémica, de refugiados y de guerra) y de políticas neoliberales extremas implementadas para controlarlas. El foco se centra en la carga que las mujeres deben asumir en una situación coyuntural que vuelve a situar el cuidado (y el trabajo doméstico) como «trabajo de mujeres», especialmente durante los períodos de «confinamiento» adoptados por el Gobierno para controlar la propagación de la pandemia de COVID-19. La visión general se califica a partir de la investigación en Atenas y de entrevistas a mujeres que hacen malabarismos con el espacio y el tiempo para cuidar de sí mismas y de los demás, a la vez que deben mantener sus objetivos y aspiraciones personales y los «derechos adquiridos» en décadas anteriores de relativa prosperidad.

What Is Known? In elderly inpatients, potential inappropriate medication (PIM) is a prominent prescription challenge. However, there is limited information available regarding PIM in patients with central nervous system (CNS) diseases in China. Objective. To evaluate and improve the rational use of drugs for the treatment of CNS diseases in elderly inpatients. Method. A retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted among elderly inpatients (≥65 years) admitted to the Ninth People’s Hospital of Zhengzhou in China from March 2020 to March 2021. PIM was identified based on the 2019 Beers criteria at admission and discharge. The patients recruited in March 2020 were considered a baseline group, which was used as a comparison to evaluate PIM of CNS disease-related drugs in June 2020, September 2020, December 2020, and March 2021. Results. A total of 1500 patients were included in the evaluation. There was a statistically significant difference in the number of average hospitalization days, drug varieties used, and PIM detection ( p < 0.05 ), as determined by X2 test. A total of 332 cases of PIM were identified, and 226 cases were detected for the interaction with CNS disease dementia. Multifactor logistic regression analysis showed that male, length of stay ≥15 days, and >10 medication types were risk factors for the occurrence of PIM ( p < 0.05 ). After clinical supervision and training based on the High-Risk Drug Replacement Program for the Elderly, the rate of irrational medication under medical advice decreased from 34.67% in March 2020 to 14.0% ( p < 0.001 ) in March 2021. What Is New and Conclusion. There was certain rationality based on the High-Risk Drug Replacement Program for the Elderly, and the rates of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, 5-hydroxylamine/norepinephrine re-intake inhibitor, rotenone, quetiapine, and proton pump inhibitor use were improved. These results provide a reference for the continuous improvement of the PIM catalog for elderly patients.

Patients discover that exhaustion following a stroke is both frequent and upsetting. Which method to employ to alleviate this fatigue needs to be decided. Various techniques might be beneficial. Between 25 and 75 percent of stroke survivors report feeling worn out. Patient’s quality of life and neurological rehabilitation are negatively impacted by post-stroke fatigue (PSF), which is frequently incapacitating. PSF is defined in various ways, but they all include subjective feelings of weakness and exhaustion that make it difficult to go about daily activities. Both biological and psycho-cognitive factors influence PSF. The assessment of PSF, contributing variables, therapy modalities, and nursing implications will all be covered in this paper.

The purpose of this article is to reflect on the notions of home, body and care considering the contributions of the Social Studies of Science (STS) and feminist studies on care and intersectionality, based on research and teaching experiences. The cases on which I reflect come from two distinct moments: an ethnographic research carried out between 2015 and 2018 in a primary health care center and situations experienced by medical students during their internship in this same area and accompanied by the author as a supervisor, between 2021 and 2022. The relation between the cases and the environments where these people live constitute the guiding thread of this reflection, in which I try to demonstrate the centrality of the space understood as home and of human and non-human relationships that permeate the corporeity of patients, in its possibilities and ways of generating care. Finally, I propose to think about the need for an epistemic reflection in the formative field of medicine, in order to understand living bodies and the people in their lives., A proposta do artigo é articular as noções de casa, corpo e cuidado à luz da contribuição dos estudos sociais da ciência e dos estudos feministas sobre cuidado e sobre interseccionalidade, a partir de experiências de pesquisa e ensino. Os casos apresentados são oriundos de dois momentos distintos: uma etnografia realizada entre 2015 e 2018 em uma unidade de atenção primária à saúde e situações vivenciadas por estudantes de medicina ao longo do internato também na atenção primária e acompanhadas pela autora enquanto supervisora, entre 2021 e 2022. A relação entre os casos apresentados e os ambientes onde vivem as pessoas que deles fazem parte constituem o fio condutor desta reflexão, na qual procuro demonstrar a centralidade do espaço entendido como casa e de relações humanas e não humanas que permeiam a corporeidade dos pacientes, em suas possibilidades e formas de gerar cuidado. Finalmente, proponho pensar na necessidade de uma reflexão epistêmica no campo formativo da saúde, para compreensão dos corpos vivos e das pessoas em suas vidas.

The aim of the SI is to bring to the fore the places in which cross-sector partnerships (CSPs) are formed; how place shapes the dynamics of CSPs, and how CSPs shape the specific settings in which they develop. The papers demonstrate that partnerships and place are intrinsically reciprocal: the morality and materiality inherent in places repeatedly reset the reference points for partners, trigger epiphanies, shift identities, and redistribute capacities to act. Place thus becomes generative of partnerships in the most profound sense: by developing an awareness of their emplacement, CSPs commit to place, and through their place-based commitments produce three intertwined modalities of place-specific ethics that bind CSPs and place: ethic of recognition, an ethic of care, and an ethic of resilience. Our authors have found vivid examples of how emplaced CSPs embody these ethics, signaling hope for the sustainability of our (always hyper-local) life-worlds.

Today our daily life appears a multifaceted and articulated mix of ordinary and extraordinary, stability and change: a context inside which a range of latent “possibilities” is nested, on which human creativity committed to building the future seems to find expression (Jedlowski 2017, Augé 2012, Appadurai 2014). Investigating the theme of spaces and living has a lot to do with reflection on change – and on the subject’s ability to imagine and build the future – because it implies questioning a world that is changing and arouses new expectations and needs. Compared to a period in which, in our country, (little or) almost no reflection was carried out on this phenomenon, the house today appears (to be) one of the universal places from which to try to rethink ourselves and the word we live in. This essay will consider the contribution that some innovative collaborative housing practices, including co-housing, seem to offer to the rethinking of urbanity. Such practices in fact make explicit the inclination to be open to others, the aspiration to care, to feel in tune with the neighbourhood and surrounding spaces, and more generally with the world, in a perspective of trust towards the future.

The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted both the importance of care and a global crisis in care. Since its beginnings in the US in the 1980s as a feminist theory within virtue ethics, care ethics has emerged from the margins of the domestic sphere in the West to become a species theory and a force for radical societal change. Influenced by Joan Tronto’s work, Alexandre Gefen has integrated the approach into literary studies in France as an interventionist reading strategy, offering therapeutic benefits to the reader as well. In a new intersectional approach, I argue that reading literature through a care ethics model can improve lives. I compare literary testimonies on either side of the patient/carer divide, Annie Ernaux’s pre-Covid-19 care home narrative and Michael Rosen’s Covid-19 patient testimony, which, read together, expand the field of medical humanities to promote a relational reconception of society over individualist neoliberalism.

Digital technologies induce organised immaturity by generating toxic sociotechnical conditions that lead us to delegate autonomous, individual, and responsible thoughts and actions to external technological systems. Aiming to move beyond a diagnostic critical reading of the toxicity of digitalisation, we bring Bernard Stiegler’s pharmacological analysis of technology into dialogue with the ethics of care to speculatively explore how the socially engaged arts—a type of artistic practice emphasising audience co-production and processual collective responses to social challenges—play a care-giving role that helps counter technology-induced organised immaturity. We outline and illustrate two modes by which the socially engaged arts play this role: 1) disorganising immaturity through artivism, most notably anti-surveillance art, that imparts savoir vivre, that is, shared knowledge and meaning to counter the toxic side of technologies while enabling the imagination of alternative worlds in which humans coexist harmoniously with digital technologies, and 2) organising maturity through arts-based hacking that imparts savoir faire, that is, hands-on knowledge for experimental creation and practical enactment of better technological worlds.

Decision-making for reimbursement and clinical guidelines (CGs) serves different purposes although the decision-criteria and required evidence largely overlap. This study aimed to assess similarities and discrepancies between health technology assessment (HTA) reports as compared to CGs for multiple sclerosis (MS) medicines. All HTA reports and corresponding CGs for MS from the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and the European Union were assessed to identify synergies in recommendations for MS medicines (approved 1995–2020). A content analysis of HTA reports and CGs was performed to identify similarities and discrepancies in wording of treatment recommendations across documents. We assessed 132 HTA reports and 9 CGs for 16 MS treatments. Final recommendations for reimbursement and inclusion in CGs were mostly similar (90%), albeit with considerable differences in treatment lines and subindications. Since 2010, HTA reports refer to the use of CGs in 42% (55/132) and to consultations with clinicians in 43% (57/132) of cases. Six of nine CGs referred to HTA reports and two referred to HTA consultations, in one case having a formal relation to the HTA organization. CGs referenced pharmacoeconomic studies (4/9) for costs and cost-effectiveness. To date, not all new HTA recommendations for MS treatments are included in CGs. Some synergy exists between treatment recommendations in HTA reports and CGs, although discrepancies were seen in timelines and in recommended treatment lines and subindications. More stakeholder dialogue and/or consultation of each other's publications may further improve synergy, facilitate transparency, and enhance patient access.

In recent years, feminist pedagogy has been advanced as a strategy for disrupting the neoliberal corporatization of the university classroom. In this paper, we both recognize and trouble this disruptive potential, examining how the working conditions faced by adjunct instructors affect our ability to put our commitments to feminist pedagogy into practice. Based on our own experiences as sessional instructors, we argue that conditions such as heavy workloads, alongside limited access to institutional resources and community, contribute to faculty burn-out and hinder our ability to build and maintain feminist student-instructor relationships. Drawing on existing scholarship on feminist pedagogy, and emerging work exploring the challenges of teaching within the neoliberal university, we argue for the need to extend and complicate dominant understandings of feminist pedagogy as a series of values and practices that individual instructors can implement, and to recognize how its enactment is limited by the adjunctification of higher education. This paper pertains to instructors, particularly those in feminist departments, seeking to apply feminist pedagogy across the university., Au cours des dernières années, la pédagogie féministe a été mise de l’avant comme stratégie pour entraver la privatisation néo-libérale de la salle de classe de l’université. Dans cet article, nous reconnaissons et nous bouleversons ce potentiel perturbateur, en examinant la façon dont les conditions de travail des professeurs auxiliaires ont une incidence sur notre capacité à mettre en pratique nos engagements par rapport à la pédagogie féministe. En fonction de nos propres expériences à titre de chargés de cours à temps partiel, nous estimons que des conditions, comme de lourdes charges de travail, jumelées à un accès limité à des ressources pédagogiques et au milieu institutionnel, contribuent à l’épuisement professionnel du corps professoral et entravent notre capacité à forger et à entretenir des relations féministes entre les étudiants et leurs professeurs. En nous appuyant sur les connaissances existantes en matière de pédagogie féministe ainsi que sur de nouveaux ouvrages qui explorent les défis posés par l’enseignement dans une université néo-libérale, nous soutenons le besoin d’accroître et de complexifier les interprétations dominantes de la pédagogie féministe sous forme de série de valeurs et de pratiques que les professeurs peuvent mettre en oeuvre et de reconnaître les limitations de son adoption en raison de la structuration de nature agrégée et auxiliaire de l’enseignement supérieur. Cet article concerne les professeurs, surtout dans les départements universitaires féministes, qui aspirent à mettre en œuvre la pédagogie féministe dans l’ensemble de l’université.

IntroductionThe study of crisis events provides important lessons to prepare for upcoming events. The Great Recession’s impact on perinatal health in Europe can provide relevant insights into the healthcare and social protection systems’ response to the protection of the health of the most vulnerable groups.ObjectiveTo assess time trends and international disparities in perinatal mortality rates (PMR) and infant mortality rates (IMR), following the Great Recession, and their association with socioeconomic indicators in Portugal, Greece, Italy and Spain.MethodsAssociations were assessed through generalised linear models for all four countries. A Poisson joinpoint regression model was applied to explore PMR and IMR trend changes between 2000 and 2018. Country disparities were analysed using mixed-effects multilevel models.ResultsIMR and PMR have decreased overall in the four selected countries between 2000 and 2018. Still, whereas in Spain, Italy and Portugal the decreasing pace was attenuated after 2009, in Greece a positive trend was found after the 2008 crisis. IMR and PMR were significantly associated with socioeconomic indicators in all four countries. National disparities in the evolution of IMR and PMR were significantly associated with most socioeconomic indicators between 2000 and 2018.ConclusionOur results confirm the impact of the Great Recession on PMR and IMR trends in all four countries, taking recurring associations between macroeconomic cycles, variations in mortality trends, macroeconomic volatility and stagnation of IMR and PMR into account. The association with socioeconomic indicators stresses the need to strengthen social protection and healthcare systems to better protect the population’s health from the earliest days.

BACKGROUND: Self-Administration of Medication allows capable patients to manage their medication regimen throughout hospitalisation. It is assumed to facilitate continuity of care, increase medication safety and patient empowerment. To enable sustainable implementation stakeholders should support it. Knowledge about stakeholders' views regarding Self-Administration of Medication is currently lacking. DESIGN: A qualitative study was conducted among stakeholders using semi-structured interviews. METHODS: Using purposive and snowball sampling fourteen representatives from Dutch healthcare associations, organisations and authorities were interviewed between April and July 2019. These stakeholders were asked to reflected on Self-Administration of Medication and its implementation. Data were examined using inductive thematic content analysis and reported following the COREQ checklist. RESULTS: Most stakeholders were positive towards Self-Administration of Medication and foresaw benefits in terms of the following: improvements to patient-centred care, contributions to sustainable use of healthcare assets and the need and opportunity for change. Critical concerns included reflecting potential risks for patient safety, concerns about implementation feasibility and questions regarding implementation necessity. Stakeholders highlighted prerequisites pertaining to the implementation process in which the following two themes emerged: (1) initiate a supported change and (2) perform research for best practices and identification of benefits. Other prerequisites concerned distinct levels within healthcare including individual patients (i.e. adequate communication), hospital organisation (i.e. to establish a workflow to secure medication safety) and healthcare system (i.e. to facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration in healthcare). CONCLUSION: Stakeholders were predominantly positive about Self-Administration of Medication. For successful and sustainable implementation of Self-Administration of Medication, prerequisites identified in this study should be met. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: This study provided knowledge about stakeholders' views which could foster implementation and evaluation of Self-Administration of Medication, which may, in turn, promote effective deployment and patient empowerment. 01 juni 2023

RESUMO Este artigo discute a importância da água na vida cotidiana de mulheres que vivem em favelas e ocupações da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, pensando a água como bem vital, imprescindível para as relações de cuidados. O texto articula o debate sobre infraestrutura urbana com o de cuidado para pensarmos sobre os modos generificados e racializados de fazer cidade. Por meio de pequenos eventos domésticos, de diálogos que as autoras tiveram com suas interlocutoras ou de descrições etnográficas mais longas, o trabalho mostra como a água carrega a força do ordinário e é um dos objetos que permite ver a potência e a vulnerabilidade que a vida diária carrega em termos de gênero, classe e raça. Descreve-se o trabalho das mulheres nos processos de fazer cidade ao relacionar a precariedade de acesso à água com a subalternidade do trabalho do cuidado como aspectos coexistentes que visibilizam as condições de profunda desigualdade dos moradores de periferias. ABSTRACT This article discusses the importance of water in the daily lives of women living in favelas and squatter settlements in the city of Rio de Janeiro, articulating the debates on urban infrastructure and careful thinking about the gendered and racialized ways of making cities. Through small domestic events, dialogues between the authors and their interlocutors, and more extensive ethnographic descriptions, the article shows how water bears the power of the ordinary and is one of the objects that allow us to see the potency and vulnerability of daily life in terms of gender, class, and race. It describes women’s work in the processes of city-making by relating the precarious access to water with the subordination of care as coexisting aspects that make visible the conditions of profound inequality of the residents of peripheries.

Cognitive-behavioral treatments for depression typically address both behavioral (e.g., activation) and cognitive (e.g., rumination) components, and consequently improve quality of life (QOL) and function in high-resource settings. However, little is known about the cross-cultural applicability and relative contribution of these components to depression symptom severity, QOL, and functional impairment in South Africa and other resource-limited global settings with high HIV prevalence rates.Persons with HIV (N = 274) from a peri-urban community outside Cape Town, South Africa, were administered multiple measures of depression (Hamilton Depression Scale, Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale, South African Depression Scale), cognitive and behavioral components related to depression (Ruminative Response Scale, Behavioral Activation for Depression Scale), and measures of QOL and functioning (Sheehan Disability Scale, Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Scale—Short Form). Basado en entrevistas a profesionales que actúan o actuaron en la asistencia a partos domiciliarios e institucionales en la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires y periferia, este artículo indaga la práctica de algunas intervenciones y su relación con los “buenos cuidados”, las inteligencias corporales y la gestión/producción de autonomías de les parturientes. Se focaliza especialmente en la acción de la oxitocina endógena, oxitocina sintética y anestesia, para analizar cómo las elecciones y decisiones de acompañamiento de les asistentes configuran y co-crean micropolíticas del cuidado, produciendo fisiologías, temporalidades y relaciones. Based on interviews with professionals acting in institutional and home deliveries in Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires and its peripheries, this article probes into the practice of some interventions and their relationship with “good care”, body intelligence and production/management of labouring women’s autonomies. It focuses specially on the action of endogenous and synthetic oxytocin and anaesthesia, understanding the ways in which the assistants’ choices and decisions shape and co-create care micropolitics, producing physiologies, temporalities and relationships.

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the professional quality of life and care experiences of nurses who provide care for patients with COVID-19.Materials and Methods: The sample of this descriptive and cross-sectional study consisted of 181 nurses working in İstanbul (Turkey) which takes the first place according to the spread of the epidemic.Results: The nurses working for 1-4 years, 3 or more shifts per week, working in COVID-19 services, and providing care for 100 or more patients had higher compassion satisfaction scores.The compassion fatigue scores of those who were university graduates and worked 60 hours or more per week were found to be high. Those without children, high school graduates, those working 60 hours or more per week, those having 3 or more shifts per week, and those providing care for 100 or more patients in emergency services had higher mean scores on the professional quality of life.Conclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic process, it is predicted that the level of compassion fatigue and burnout of nurses alarms. It is thought that reducing the workload and improving working conditions of nurse managers and leaders, the rotation of nurses between clinics, using methods of overcoming the stress., Amaç: Bu çalışma Covid-19 hastalarına bakım veren hemşirelerin mesleki yaşam kalitesi ve bakım deneyimlerinin belirlenmesi amacı ile yapıldı.Materyal ve Metot: Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tipte olan bu araştırmanın örneklemini, salgının yayılımına göre ilk sırada yer alan İstanbul'da (Türkiye) çalışan 181 hemşire oluşturdu.Bulgular: 1-4 yıl arası çalışan, haftada 3 ve üzeri nöbet tutan, covid 19 servisinde çalışan, pandemi süresince 100 ve üzeri hastaya bakım veren hemşirelerin mesleki tatmin puanları daha yüksektir. Lisans mezunlarının, 60 saat ve üstü çalışanların ise, merhamet yorgunluk puanlarının yüksek olduğu saptandı. Çocuk sahibi olmayanların, lise mezunlarının, haftada 60 saat ve üzeri çalışanların, haftada 3 ve üzeri nöbet tutanların, acil serviste ve 100 ve üzeri hasta bakanların, mesleki yaşam kalitesi ölçeği puan ortalamaları yüksek çıkmıştır.Sonuç: Covid-19 pandemi sürecinde hemşirelerin manevi yorgunluk ve tükenmişlik düzeylerinin alarm verdiği, sürecin devam etmesi durumunda artarak devam edebileceği ve ruh sağlıklarının bozulacağı öngörülmektedir. Hemşire yöneticilerin ve liderlerin iş yükü ve çalışma koşullarında iyileştirme, hemşireler ve klinikler arasında rotasyon, stresle baş etme yöntemlerinin öğretilmesi mesleki yaşam kalitesini artırmada yararlı olacağı düşünülmektedir.

Resumo Introdução No Brasil, apesar da legislação vigente garantir a assistência à saúde para Pessoas Privadas de Liberdade, o cenário prisional é considerado um problema de saúde pública. Objetivo Compreender os desafios para garantia da integralidade no contexto da Política Nacional de Atenção à Saúde das Pessoas Privadas de Liberdade no Sistema Prisional. Método Estudo qualitativo realizado com 75 pessoas privadas de liberdade que cumpriam pena em penitenciárias do estado da Paraíba. A coleta dos dados deu-se via questionário sociodemográfico e entrevista semiestruturada. Utilizou-se a Análise de Conteúdo para a interpretação dos dados. Resultados Os participantes eram em sua maioria jovens, oriundos do Estado da Paraíba, casados, católicos, com média de um a três filhos, recebiam a visita de familiares, possuiam ensino fundamental incompleto, renda familiar inferior a um salário mínimo, encontravam-se em regime fechado e eram reincidentes. Após a análise das falas, conformaram-se as categorias: Assistência à saúde e Estrutura física. Conclusão Os desafios para garantia da integralidade no cuidado às PPL no contexto brasileiro remetem às carências estruturais das políticas públicas de saúde, acentuadas no contexto prisional pela desarticulação entre os processos de trabalho da saúde e da justiça, assim como pela fragilidade formativa dos atores envolvidos na assistência à esta clientela. Abstract Background In Brazil, despite the current legislation guaranteeing the health care of Persons Deprived of Liberty, the prison scenario is considered a public health issue. Objective To understand the challenges to guarantee integrality in the context of the National Comprehensive Healthcare Policy for People Deprived of Liberty in the Prison System. Method A qualitative study was carried out with 75 persons deprived of their liberty who were serving sentences in prisons in the state of Paraíba. The collection took place through a sociodemographic questionnaire and semi-structured interview. Content Analysis was carried out. Results The participants were mostly young, from the State of Paraíba, married, Catholics, with an average of one to three children, received visits from family members, with incomplete elementary education, family income below one minimum wage, were in a closed regime and were repeat offenders. After the analysis of the statements, the categories were conformed: Healthcare and Physical structure. Conclusion The challenges to guarantee comprehensive care in the PLP in the Brazilian context refers to the structural deficiencies of public health policies, accentuated in the prison context by the disarticulation between the health and justice work process, as well as the formative fragility of the actors involved in assisting this clientele.

We start this invited perspective with two excerpts. The first is an advertisement for A+, a Belgian architecture journal, which devoted an issue to architecture for children to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the implementation of the Convention of the Rights of the Child. The second comes from the website of a Dutch architecture firm (LIAG) describing their acclaimed design of the Princess Máxima Pediatric Oncology Centre in Utrecht, Netherlands. For people engaging in design (research), these ordinary excerpts will not sound uncommon, and apart from the understandingly somewhat commercial tone, nothing written in them seems worrisome. The same may be true for people outside of design as they will not oppose the general idea that spaces for children or pediatric oncology wards are designed with young people’s well-being and development in mind. Yet, as argued in this essay, contemporary discourse of children’s spaces seems to be divided into two separate domains: on the one hand, everyday life and on the other hand, care environments, where children are seen as vulnerable and passive with an emphasis on a positivist approach to research. The environmental crisis has created a demand for practices that build awareness about the interconnections of diverse forms of life, allowing humans to understand complex earthly relationships and reconnect with the land they inhabit. This paper contributes to this debate by investigating bird watching activities and their relevance for architects and landscape architects. Drawing upon multispecies studies and the notion of landscape thinking, it examines the potential of birding as a caring landscaping practice. It analyzes the relationship between birders and sand martins in two case studies and probes how birders develop attentiveness for the birds and their shared environment. The investigation suggests that birding fosters care beyond the observed species. It can trigger a landscaping practice comparable to landscape thinking that helps humans reconnect with the land, fostering response-able spatial design practices. ISSN:2095-2635 ISSN:2095-2643

Cet article propose un retour d’expérience sur les stratégies d’adaptation et les apprentissages qui ont permis à dix doctorant.es du Centre de recherches internationales (CERI, CNRS/Sciences Po) de poursuivre leurs recherches après l’instauration des mesures liées à la crise sanitaire du Covid-19. Malgré des méthodes et des terrains variés, nos recherches, tant sur la forme que sur le fond, ont été radicalement affectées par la pandémie. Nous montrons comment la conduite d’une recherche doctorale « sans contact » nous a poussés à développer des méthodes alternatives de récolte des données, à reformuler nos questions de recherche et à modifier nos objets d’analyse. Selon nous, la recherche qualitative à distance conduit à opérer un recentrement épistémologique, tant géographique qu’institutionnel. Elle détourne également le regard des chercheurs et chercheuses des acteurs et actrices non connecté.es ainsi que des pratiques informelles. Nous interrogeons enfin la dimension heuristique de ces « bricolages » méthodologiques, en réalité contingents à toute recherche en sciences sociales, et la valeur épistémologique de ces méthodes alternatives en proposant une formalisation de celles-ci. This article discusses the adaptation strategies and lessons that enabled ten PhD students from the Centre for International Studies (CERI, CNRS/Sciences Po) to continue their research after the implementation of the Covid-19 lockdown measures. Despite the variety of methods and fields, our research, both in form and substance, has been radically affected by the pandemic. We show how conducting “contactless” research led us to develop alternative methods of data collection, reformulate our research questions and modify our objects of analysis. We posit that qualitative remote research tends to operate an epistemological refocusing, both geographic and institutional, and to distract researchers from unconnected actors as well as informal practices. Finally, we question the heuristic dimension of this methodological “patchwork”, which is contingent to all research in social sciences, and the epistemological value of these alternative methods by formalising them.

La pratique nommée « camstudy » consiste à se connecter volontairement avec d’autres internautes inconnus pour des sessions de travail, en gardant la caméra allumée dans le but de se surveiller les uns les autres et de bloquer les distractions, ce qui favorise la concentration sur le travail. Cette nouvelle pratique s’est développée dans le contexte de la généralisation des modes de vie sans contact connue depuis 2017 en Corée du Sud sous le terme « untact », néologisme d’un mot-valise « un- » (préfixe négatif en anglais) et « contact ». S’appuyant sur une enquête de terrain par observation participante réalisée en 2021 pendant la crise sanitaire, cet article explore cette pratique de camstudy et propose de montrer comment l’appropriation par les utilisateurs conduit à une diversité des formes et des contenus dans les interactions personnelles qui prennent place par le biais d’un écran. Pour finir, cette recherche suggère la possibilité de « liens sans échange » ayant émergé des interactions limitées de cette pratique. The practice called “camstudy” consists in voluntarily connecting to other unknown users for work sessions with the camera on, to monitor one another and to avoid distractions so that users can concentrate on their work. This new form of interaction has developed in the context of contactless lifestyles in South Korea, known since 2017 as “untact” a neologism combining the prefix “un-” and “contact”. Based on a field survey through participant observation carried out in 2021 during the health crisis, this article explores the practice of camstudy, and proposes to show the diversity of forms and contents of interpersonal interactions through a screen, achieved by the appropriation of users. Finally, this research suggests the possibility of “links without exchange” that have emerged from the limited interactions of this practice.

La phobie sociale ou anxiété sociale est actuellement un trouble psychique largement reconnu et diagnostiqué à travers le monde. C’est toutefois au Japon d’abord, entre les années 1960 et 1990, que cette forme de timidité pathologique a acquis une légitimité médicale, en tant que diagnostic psychiatrique, et sociale, en tant que modalité reconnue d’expression de la souffrance psychique, sous le nom de « phobie interpersonnelle » (taijin kyôfu ou taijin kyôfushô). Ce qui peut sembler étonnant rétrospectivement est que les psychiatres japonais considèrent alors qu’il s’agit là d’une névrose japonaise, ce qui conduira dans les années 1990 à sa reconnaissance au niveau international en tant que « syndrome lié à la culture ». Nous analysons dans cet article le déploiement d’une lecture culturaliste dans la réflexion psychopathologique sur la phobie interpersonnelle, les circulations et les réagencements conceptuels qui la déterminent, dans le contexte historique des années de haute croissance économique. Social phobia or social anxiety disorder is currently a widely recognised and diagnosed psychological disorder throughout the world. However, it was in Japan, between the 1960s and the 1990s, that this form of pathological shyness first acquired both medical legitimacy –as a psychiatric diagnosis– and social legitimacy, as a recognised mode of expression of psychological suffering, called “interpersonal phobia” (taijin kyôfu or taijin kyôfushô). What may seem astonishing in retrospect is that Japanese psychiatrists then considered this to be a Japanese neurosis, which led in the 1990s to its international validation as a “culture-bound syndrome”. In this paper, I analyse the development of the culturalist perspective in psychopathological theories on interpersonal phobia and the conceptual circulations and rearrangements that determined it, in the historical context of the decades of high economic growth.

Dans cet article, nous choisissons de mettre en commun nos travaux sur le toucher et l’écoféminisme afin de proposer une réflexion épistémologique sur ce sens. Nous étudions les conséquences de la politique de la mise à distance sur l’expérience sensible et, par conséquent, les manières de se réapproprier le contact au moyen du toucher. À partir d’une grille de lecture écoféministe et d’une critique du « visiocentrisme » (terme que nous définissons à cette occasion), nous questionnons la manière dont les procédés de mise à distance structurent nos paradigmes scientifiques et nos représentations sociales, donc nos actions. À travers l’exemple filé de l’endométriose et des conditions d’exercice du soin, nous interrogeons les paradoxes de l’expérience sensible en contexte productiviste et patriarcal, en développant les concepts de « travail sensible » et de « toucher sans contact ». Enfin, nous soulignons les potentialités épistémologiques et politiques radicales d’un toucher écoféministe, qui permettrait, d’une part, de multiplier les sujets de connaissance et, d’autre part, de proposer des théories alternatives sur la compréhension du monde social. In this article, we brought together our researches on the sense of touch and ecofeminism to introduce a new epistemological approach to this sense. We study the consequences of the politics of distancing on sensitive experiences and the possibilities of reclaiming contact through touch. Using an ecofeminist and a critical visiocentric conceptual grid, we question how “distancing” structures our scientific paradigms, social representations and, therefore, our actions. Through the extended example of endometriosis and care practices, we discuss the paradoxes of sensitive experience in a production-driven and patriarchal context through the development of concepts such as “sensitive work” and “touch without contact”. Eventually, we underline the epistemological and radical political possibilities of an ecofeminist sense of touch which could, on the one hand, multiply epistemic agents and, on the other hand, introduce renewed and alternatives understandings of the social world.

The creation of knowledge by pediatric nurse scientists that informs and directs everyday nursing practice is essential to delivering safe and effective nursing care to children. The health of our children is at stake due to current statistics showing a steady decline in pediatric nurses and a lack of pediatric nurse scientists with PhDs. The objectives of this paper are to: Summarize the demands on pediatric health care. Express our concern that there are insufficient pediatric nurse scientists to produce the fundamental knowledge needed to direct pediatric nursing practice. Discuss the factors that may affect the number of pediatric nurse scientists. Make recommendations for nursing leaders, faculty, and professional nursing organizations to increase the depth of knowledge in pediatric health care.

Literature on the effects of parental migration on the education of children who stay at origin, what we call 'stayer' youth, mainly focuses on educational outcomes without looking at the process leading to such outcomes. This article addresses this gap by showing how the educational trajectories of stayer youth unfold. Stayer youth may encounter a range of obstacles and interruptions to their education when their parents move overseas, and we explore the agency these youth exert and the support networks they activate to try to overcome them. We employ a youth-centric methodology, based on 15 months of ethnographic fieldwork in three cities in Ghana, with young people whose parents migrated internationally. We find that frequent changes in residence, limited financial means, and lack of academic support cause interruptions in educational trajectories. In response, the young people mobilize support from local social networks to compensate for what they lack from their transnational connections.

As research has become part of chaplaincy, many chaplains become involved in research, often in the double-role of chaplain-researcher. Despite the increase of involvement in research, how conducting research benefits chaplains’ professional care for clients has not been studied. The present study aimed to describe how chaplains perceive the impact of participation in the Dutch Case Studies Project (CSP) on their professional expertise and positioning in theinstitution. A survey was distributed among participants of the CSP (N=50) and was completed by 48 participants. We found that participation in research contributed to the expertise of chaplains (e.g., its goal-orientation, the use of theory and method) and their positioning as they try to legitimate their profession. This study thus substantiates the presumption that chaplains’ engaging in research as chaplain-researcher contributes to the perceived improvement of the quality of chaplaincy care and its legitimation.

In Senegal, the growth of horticulture has been particularly rapid in the last decade or so, partly coinciding with the 2007–2008 ‘land rush’ and a boom in agricultural investment. This article analyses the implications of the rise in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the horticultural sector in northern Senegal. Specifically, it examines FDI’s effects on labour migration and the social reproduction of rural classes of labour through an intersectional feminist and gendered lens. It argues that invisibilised ‘care chains’ that overly burden women, and communities of solidarities, play a crucial role in the social reproduction of horticultural workers, most specifically migrant workers, and provide a subsidy to agrarian capital. Yet, capitalist development does not always translate to better wages and more inclusive laws and policies for horticultural wage workers and providers of caring labour who are adversely incorporated in these political economies. As a result, this requires further attention from policy-makers and political leaders. Using a combination of working-life histories and survey data gathered through two rounds of fieldwork over two years, and secondary data from relevant databases, this article focuses on the River Valley Region and Louga to analyse the emerging challenges of labour migration, social reproduction and caring labour in rural Senegal.

Introduction In the last decade, substantial differences in the epidemiology of, antiretroviral therapy (ART) for, cascade of care in and support to people with HIV in vulnerable populations have been observed between countries in Western Europe, Central Europe (CE) and Eastern Europe (EE). The aim of this study was to use a survey to explore whether ART availability and therapies have evolved in CE and EE according to European guidelines. Methods The Euroguidelines in Central and Eastern Europe (ECEE) Network Group conducted two identical multicentre cross-sectional online surveys in 2019 and 2021 concerning the availability and use of antiretroviral drugs (boosted protease inhibitors [bPIs], integrase inhibitors [INSTIs] and nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors [NRTIs]), the introduction of a rapid ART start strategy and the use of two-drug regimens (2DRs) for starting or switching ART. We also investigated barriers to the implementation of these strategies in each region. Results In total, 18 centres participated in the study: four from CE, six from EE and eight from Southeastern Europe (SEE). Between those 2 years, older PIs were less frequently used and darunavir-based regimens were the main PIs (83%); bictegravir-based and tenofovir alafenamide-based regimens were introduced in CE and SEE but not in EE. The COVID-19 pandemic did not significantly interrupt delivery of ART in most centres. Two-thirds of centres adopted a rapid ART start strategy, mainly in pregnant women and to improve linkage of care in vulnerable populations. The main obstacle to rapid ART start was that national guidelines in several countries from all three regions did not support such as strategy or required laboratory tests first; an INSTI/NRTI combination was the most commonly prescribed regimen (75%) and was exclusively prescribed in SEE. 2DRs are increasingly used for starting or switching ART (58%), and an INSTI/NRTI was the preferred regimen (75%) in all regions and exclusively prescribed in SEE, whereas the use of bPIs declined. Understanding and communicating the risk of pregnancy complications post-living kidney donation is imperative as the majority of living kidney donors (LKD) are women of childbearing age. We aimed to identify all original research articles examining complications in post-donation pregnancies and compared the quality and consistency of related guidelines. We searched Embase, MEDLINE, PubMed, society webpages, and guideline registries for English-language publications published up until December 18, 2020. Ninety-three articles were screened from which 16 studies were identified, with a total of 1399 post-donation pregnancies. The outcome of interest, post-donation pregnancy complications, was not calculable, and only a narrative synthesis of the evidence was possible. The absolute risk of pre-eclampsia increased from similar to 1%-3% pre-donation (lower than the general population) to similar to 4%-10% post-donation (comparable to the general population). The risks of adverse fetal and neonatal outcomes were no different between post-donation and pre-donation pregnancies. Guidelines and consensus statements were consistent in stating the need to inform LKDs of their post-donation pregnancy risk, however, the depth and scope of this guidance were variable. While the absolute risk of pregnancy complications remains low post-donation, a concerted effort is required to better identify and individualize risk in these women, such that consent to donation is truly informed.

Resumo É possível discutir humanização em saúde sem dar centralidade para as expressões do racismo nos processos de adoecimento? Seria possível pensar práticas humanizadas de cuidado sem considerar o racismo estrutural e institucional na saúde? Uma resposta afirmativa para uma dessas perguntas reforça o vigente mito da democracia racial brasileira, que nos impede de reconhecer ou validar o quanto o racismo está presente em nossa sociedade e produz experiências desiguais de viver, adoecer e morrer para a população negra, que contabiliza mais de 56% da população brasileira. Neste artigo, procuro, em diálogo com a produção de Ayres sobre Projetos de Felicidade e saúde, refletir sobre a produção de cuidado em saúde no contexto brasileiro, considerando o racismo estrutural e o vigente mito da democracia racial na centralidade desta produção de cuidado. Enquanto instituição saúde e objetivando garantir saúde como direito à cidadania, deveríamos nos comprometer com projetos de felicidade ou viabilizar e apoiar projetos de emancipação e liberdade? Abstract Can we discuss humanization in health without bringing the expressions of racism in the health-ilness process to the centrality of the debate? Would it be possible to think of humanized care practices without considering structural and institutional racism in health? An affirmative answer to one of these questions reinforces the current myth of Brazilian racial democracy, which prevents us from recognizing or validating how much racism is alive in our society and produces unequal experiences of living, sickening, and dying for the black population, which accounts for more than 56% of the Brazilian population. In this article, in dialogue with Ayres’ production on Happiness Projects and healthcare, I seek to reflect on the production of health care in the Brazilian context, considering structural racism and the prevailing myth of racial democracy in the centrality of this care production. As a health institution aiming to ensure health as a right to citizenship, should we commit to projects of happiness or enable and support emancipation and freedom projects?

Çalışmada simülasyon tabanlı eğitimin ebelik öğrencilerinin tıbbi hata yapma eğilimleri ve hasta bakım davranışlarını algılamaları üzerine etkisini belirlemek amaçlandı.Yöntem: Çalışma tek körlü, prospektif ve randomize kontrollü olarak yürütüldü. Çalışmaya deney ve kontrol gruplarında 60 olmak üzere toplam 120 öğrenci dâhil edildi. Veri toplamada bireysel bilgi formu, Tıbbi Hata Eğilim ve Bakım Değerlendirme Ölçekleri kullanıldı. Veriler Mann Whitney-U testi, Bağımsız gruplarda t testi, pearson, spearman korelasyon testleri ve regresyon testi ile değerlendirildi. Testlerde p0.05). Öğrencilerin Bakım Değerlendirme ölçeğinden aldıkları puan ortalamaları deney ve kontrol grupları için sırasıyla 309.15±17.58, 255.42±44.00 olarak saptandı. Deney ve kontrol grupları için Tıbbi hataya eğilim puan ortalamaları ise sırasıyla 201.25±31.09, 146.08±37.89 bulundu (p=0.000). Tıbbi hata yapmaya eğilim oranının kontrol grubunda deney grubuna göre 2.734 kat arttığı bulunmuştur. Deney grubunun bakım davranışlarını uygulama sıklığının ve algılamalarının oranının ise kontrol grubuna göre 3.577 kat olumlu yönde arttığı saptanmıştır.Sonuç: Çalışmada simülasyon tabanlı eğitim, ebelik öğrencilerinin tıbbi hataya eğilimlerini azalttığı ve bakım davranışlarına yönelik algılarını arttırdığı görülmüştür. The study aimed to determine the effect of simulation-based training on midwifery students’ malpractice trends and perceptions of care behaviors.Method: This study is a single blind, prospective, and randomized controlled trial. A total of 120 students, 60 in the experimental and control groups, were included in the study. The students were given theoretical training and practical training with simulation method. The data were collected using a personal information form, Medical Malpractice Tendency Scale and Caring Assessment Questionnaire. Data were evaluated with Mann Whitney-U test, independent groups t test, pearson, spearman correlation tests and regression test. A p value of .05). Mean scores of the students in the experimental and control groups from the caring assessment questionnaire were 309.15±17.58 and 255.42±44.00, respectively. The mean scores from the medical malpractice tendency scale were 201.25±31.09 and 146.08±37.89, respectively (p=.000). The results showed that the control group had medical malpractice tendencies 2.734 times more than the experimental group. However, the experimental group showed a 3.577 times higher rate of providing and perceiving care behaviors than the control group.Conclusion: In the study, it was seen that simulation-based training reduced midwifery students' malpractice trends and increased their perceptions on care behaviors. The use of simulation-based training applications during midwifery profession training is important in raising competent and qualified professionals.

The purpose of this paper is to attempt to re-create and present the relationships between Helena Radlińska and the historical generation of pre-war Łódź, i.e. the generation representing the scientific/academic, educational, and local government environments. My interests are focused on the nature of mutual relationships, their context, intensity, the circumstances of forming an acquaintance/friendship, but also on the results of meetings, discussions, and projects analyzed from the perspective of sharing experiences. When searching for such relationships, and considering the historical and pedagogical nature of the research, I conducted an archival study of the selected works and papers of Helena Radlińska, as well as materials collected in archives in Łódź, including press from 1918–1939, social-pedagogical periodicals, and publications analysing the political, economic, and social reality of that period. Przedmiotem artykułu jest próba odtworzenia i ukazania związków, jakie łączyły Helenę Radlińską z pokoleniem historycznym międzywojennej Łodzi – pokoleniem reprezentującym środowisko naukowe/akademickie, oświatowe i samorządowe. W kręgu moich zainteresowań pozostawała istota wzajemnych relacji, ich kontekst, intensywność, okoliczności nawiązania znajomości/przyjaźni, ale również – z punktu widzenia procesu uwspólniania doświadczeń – rezultaty wspólnych spotkań, rozmów, projektów. Poszukując takich związków, mając na uwadze historyczno-pedagogiczny charakter badań, przeprowadziłam kwerendę źródłową wybranych prac zwartych i artykułów Radlińskiej, łódzkich archiwaliów i prasy z okresu 1918–1939, wydawnictw periodycznych o profilu społeczno-pedagogicznym oraz publikacji analizujących realia polityczno-ekonomiczne i społeczne tamtego okresu.

Objective: This study aims to determine the clinical leadership levels of nurse managers and related factors Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 109 nurse managers working at six hospitals – including four public hospitals, one private hospital, and one university hospital. The data was collected using Clinical Leadership Scale (CLS) including their personal and demographic information, as well as their clinical leadership traits. Results: The participants had a total mean score of 2.72±0.19 on clinical leadership scale. The mean scores of the improving services subscale were higher in female nurse managers than those of male counterparts. Participants who formally studied on management earned higher mean scores for the overall CLS and its setting direction subscale than those who did not. Likewise, the participants who formally studied on leadership earned higher mean scores for the overall CLS and its personal qualities subscale than those who did not. Objective: In our research, we determined the oral health behaviors and knowledge levels of the Turkish population with diabetes.Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a self-reported questionnaire was used to assess the oral health practices, knowledge, and awareness items of the patients with a confirmed diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.Results: A total of 439 respondents completed the questionnaire in a 6-month period. A majority of the participants (67%) were unaware about diabetes -periodontal disease relationship. However, only 9.6% of patients with diabetes were referred to a dentist for oral health. The rate of participants who received information about diabetes related increased periodontal risks by dentists was 19.4%. Conclusion: Our findings showed that type 2 patients with diabetes had poor attitudes and knowledge about oral health.

Migrants are often perceived as a group of vulnerable victims, especially within a legal context such as the one in this study: lawyer-client consultations in the field of immigration law. The literature describes how institutional limitations often translate into asymmetric lawyer-client dynamics. The linguistic-ethnographic data gathered for this study shows, however, that the reality is more complex. In operationalizing the concept of agency, this study focuses on the dynamic-relational nature of power differences, which implies a move away from the binary conceptualization of structure and agency. The ethnographic lens helps to unpack agency and reveals a picture of strategic behaviour that is contextually embedded and multi-layered. In this light, the performance of agency and vulnerability is shown to be (1) interactionally achieved, (2) indicative of an awareness of macro-level processes, and (3) reflective of the philosophy behind the authorities' migration management.

Introdução: O Brasil é o segundo maior país em casos de depressão na América, e durante a gravidez, a mulher passa por intensas modificações, o que faz com que o período gravídico-puerperal ofereça uma vulnerabilidade à depressão pós-parto (DPP).Objetivo geral:. buscou revisar a literatura para abordar como a equipe de Enfermagem auxilia nesse período de depressão pós-partoMétodo:. foi a revisão integrativa da literatura. qual foi baseada na consulta de trabalhos publicados nos últimos 5 anos (2018 a 2023), utilizados como critérios de inclusão esta pesquisa, artigos com textos completos em português a partir de 2017, os quais foram utilizados como critérios de exclusão estudos que não apoiaram a questão norteadora.Resultados:encontraram 10 artigos acerca do tema, DPP no contexto da saúde da mulher e abordagem da equipe de saúde na DPP. Discussão:os fatores de proteção da DPP têm relação direta com os sintomas antes e durante a gravidez, tais sintomas, são associados aos fatores psicossociais que exercem influência sobre a manifestação da patologia, como o sentimento de despreparo, incapacidade antes a maternidade e a situação financeira. nos bancos de dados da LILACS- Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, BDENF – Bases de Dados de Enfermagem e MEDLINE-Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online.Conclusão:a intervenção do profissional de enfermagem primariamente, esteve direcionada ao cuidado com o bebê, amamentação, mas que reconhecem a importância dos cuidados com as condições físicas e psicológicas da puérpera em todas as fases do pré-natal.&nbsp

Este estudo traz evidências a respeito da assistência de enfermagem ao paciente com carcinoma epidermóide. Em se tratando de uma patologia invasiva e com grande complexidade no tratamento, o carcinoma epidermoide, assim como qualquer patologia crônica provoca um grande impacto no indivíduo, pois, muitos ignoram os sinais da doença e negligenciam na busca de um tratamento e, quando é diagnosticado como câncer, por vezes está bem avançado dificultando assim a eficácia do tratamento. Tem-se como objetivo compreender assistência de enfermagem ao paciente com carcinoma epidermóide, assim como, descrever as principais causas do carcinoma epidermóide, relatar estratégias de prevenção e promoção, relatar a atuação da enfermagem no acolhimento e tratamento de pacientes com o carcinoma epidermóide. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa a partir das seguintes bases de dados:Scientific Eletronic Library Online(SciELO); Base de dados de Enfermagem (BDENF); Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LiLACS);Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online(MEDLINE); e o Google Acadêmico. A partir dos dados coletados observou-se que o profissional da enfermagem pode contribuir significativamente para um acolhimento mais humanizado. Porém, para esse acolhimento, faz-se necessário reconhecer o papel relevante desse profissional no âmbito hospitalar no atendimento a pacientes com câncer.&nbsp

The pandemic had a huge impact on people in need of long-term care (LTC) because of the reduced possibility (or even impossibility) of obtaining the amount of good-quality care they needed during the crisis. At the same time, the pandemic reminded society of the value of our health and care systems, and the essential role performed by people who work as carers, whether they are formally employed in the sector or work informally as unpaid carers. Despite this, not enough attention was paid during the pandemic to the issue of how to make LTC systems more resilient, while the negative effects of the crisis on both carers and the people being cared for are likely to persist (if not worsen) in the coming years if no action is taken. &nbsp

Elder abuse is a multifactorial public health issue deeply affected by silence and discrimination. This paper aims to analyze the social representations of violence among older people with functional dependence based on the theory of social representations. A qualitative exploratory– descriptive study was conducted with a sample of 21 older people enrolled in a home-based program in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil. A sociodemographic survey and an interview script were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using the content analysis technique and QSR NVivo® software. Concerning the social representations of violence, older people’s narratives revealed a broad perception of the phenomenon through the following categories: multivariate phenomenon, ageism, neglect, and denial. The identification of the subtle forms of violence against older people and the exploration of this issue from the perspective of these vulnerable people can contribute to the production of new knowledge and the creation of mechanisms by which to raise awareness of and prevent this issue, as well as to break the silence surrounding it through reporting. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Purpose Mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the most common causes of morbidity worldwide. Patients at risk of unfavourable outcome may benefit from additional attention and help but identification of these patients necessitates the development of diagnostic methods to assess indices of brain injury at an early stage. The aim of this overview is to highlight studies that reflect the growing scientific attention to the early diagnosis and prognostication of mild TBI. Recent findings The value of serum biomarkers for the diagnosis of TBI severity has been acknowledged in recent studies. The diagnostic and prognostic utility of several biomarkers of brain injury, such as glial fibrillary acidic protein, and of inflammation, such as interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-10, holds promise for application in daily clinical practice in a point-of-care platform. Besides head CT imaging, early advanced MRI brain imaging has been reported as a tool for assessment of injury severity and prognostication. The introduction of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) has raised new challenges for the treatment of intracranial traumatic haemorrhage at the Emergency Department. Promising findings of new diagnostic markers of brain injury severity highlight the potential prognostic value of serum biomarkers and early MRI imaging. The accurate assessment of patients at risk of incomplete recovery after mTBI will enhance more timely and individualized treatment.

Health system governance has been receiving increasing attention in health system research since the 1980s. The contemporary challenges that the German health system is faced with are often closely linked to governance issues. Although Germany has the highest health expenditure as a share of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the European Union (EU), the spending on healthcare is out of proportion to the health outcomes of the population. The reason for this lies mainly in the complexity of the German health system which is hard to steer due to several administrative levels in the country and numerous policy actors to whom the decision-making power on healthcare provision is delegated. In this paper, we present the results of focus group discussions on governance and build upon the insights gained through the Neustart project of the Robert Bosch Foundation. Based on an internationally recognised health governance framework from the World Health Organization (WHO), experts who work in, on or for the German health system addressed health governance challenges. They provided evidence-based recommendations for the new legislative period (2021-2025) on transparency, accountability, participation, integrity and capacity of the German health system.

To invite more than imitation, institutional models—of writing and beyond—must leave space for individuals to bring their specific creative intelligence to bear on the rhetorical context. This reciprocal use of models depends on preparing for all students but also on having an open stance to the individual students not adequately accounted for in those preparations, an open stance through which the presence of actual students can disrupt harmful or limited models. Adopting new tools and practices is one thing; adopting a new stance with which to find, approach, understand, and use new tools and practices is something else—something more difficult to bring into public discussion and explicit consideration. I use the practice of book recommendation as an example through which to consider this knowing on the go.

The COVID-19 crisis compromised and revealed the importance of different forms of communication in the organizations and their impacts on the subjectiveness of their members. Particularly informal, caring, communal, and gestural interactions are very different from those between individuals who are supposed to be, or who suppose themselves to be, autonomous, facilitating them, repairing their effects, or escaping from them or even opposing them. The article thus shows that beside, beyond, and outside of organizing communication, there is also the place, need, and reaction of non-organizable communication. Especialmente as interações informais, de solicitude, comunitárias e gestuais são muito distintas do que aquelas entre indivíduos que supostamente são, ou pensam que são, autônomos, facilitando-as, reparando seus efeitos, fugindo delas ou opondo-se a elas. O artigo mostra que ao lado, além e fora da comunicação organizante há também o lugar, a necessidade e a reação de uma comunicação não organizável. La crisis provocada por el Covid-19 afectó y reveló la importancia de las diferentes formas de comunicación en las organizaciones y sus impactos en la subjetividad de sus integrantes. En particular las interacciones informales, de solicitud, comunitarias y gestuales son muy diferentes de las que se dan entre individuos supuestamente autónomos, o que se suponen autónomos, al facilitarlas, restaurar sus efectos, huir de ellas u oponerse a ellas. Este artículo muestra que al lado, más allá y fuera de la comunicación organizadora está también el lugar, la necesidad y la reacción de una comunicación no organizable.

Contains fulltext : 287686.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) years after hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) and its association with HG severity. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This prospective cohort study consisted of a follow-up of 215 women admitted for HG, who were eligible to participate in a randomized controlled trial and either declined or agreed to be randomized between 2013 and 2016 in 19 hospitals in the Netherlands. Participants completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) six weeks postpartum and during follow-up and the PTSD checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) during follow-up. An anxiety or depression score ≥8 is indicative of an anxiety or depression disorder and a PCL-5 ≥ 31 indicative of PTSD. Measures of HG severity were symptom severity (PUQE-24: Pregnancy Unique Quantification of Emesis), weight change, duration of admissions, readmissions, and admissions after the first trimester. RESULTS: About 54/215 participants completed the HADS six weeks postpartum and 73/215 participants completed the follow-up questionnaire, on average 4.5 years later. Six weeks postpartum, 13 participants (24.1%) had an anxiety score ≥8 and 11 participants (20.4%) a depression score ≥8. During follow-up, 29 participants (39.7%) had an anxiety score ≥8, 20 participants (27.4%) a depression score ≥8, and 16 participants (21.9%) a PCL-5 ≥ 31.Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that for every additional point of the mean PUQE-24 three weeks after inclusion, the likelihood of having an anxiety score ≥8 and PCL-5 ≥ 31 at follow-up increased with OR 1.41 (95% CI: 1.10;1.79) and OR 1.49 (95% CI: 1.06;2.10) respectively. CONCLUSION: Depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms are common years after HG occurred.

The 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) establish as a principle the need to "leave no one behind". Achieving these SDGs currently poses a challenge for care in the context of the pandemic, due to the social vulnerability that is signposted when caring for these groups, such as gender inequalities, aging and access to food. Access to food is made harder during lockdowns due to the marked vulnerabilities among many Latin American families. Cuba does not escape this reality; the active involvement of social work remains insufficient in the relationship between care, family food security and vulnerable groups. This article is intended to assess the integration of food security, care and attention to vulnerable groups based on family-level social work actions during Covid-19 in the Santiago de Cuba municipal area. Scientific observation and surveys were used for the study, representing qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The study findings generally show that social work with families must both foster cultural capital that makes it possible to redirect dietary practices in terms of caring for vulnerable groups, and reinforce family/social capital by facilitating greater links with institutions and organizations. La Agenda 2030 y los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) sitúan como principio la necesidad de "no dejar a nadie atrás". Alcanzar estos ODS constituye, en la actualidad, un desafío para el cuidado en el contexto de la pandemia, debido a la vulnerabilidad social que signa la atención de estos grupos, por ejemplo: desigualdades de género, envejecimiento y acceso a los alimentos. Éste último, se complejiza en el confinamiento físico ante las marcadas vulnerabilidades que emergen en muchas familias de Latinoamérica. Cuba no escapa a esta realidad, donde la participación activa del Trabajo social aún es insuficiente en la relación cuidado, seguridad alimentaria familiar (SAF) y grupos vulnerables. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo: valorar la integración de la seguridad alimentaria, el cuidado y la atención a grupos vulnerables desde la acción del Trabajo social a nivel familiar en Covid-19, municipio Santiago de Cuba. Para el mismo, se emplearon las técnicas de observación científica y el cuestionario, correspondientes a la metodología cualitativa y cuantitativa. Los resultados de la investigación evidenciaron, de manera general que, el trabajo social con familias debe, por un lado, potenciar un capital cultural que permita renovar las prácticas alimentarias hacia el cuidado a los grupos vulnerables, y por el otro, reforzar el capital social familiar posibilitando mayor vínculo con instituciones y organizaciones.

OBJECTIVE: A structured and transparent approach is instrumental in translating research evidence to health recommendations and evidence informed clinical decisions. The aim was to conduct an overview and analysis of principles and methodologies for health guideline development. METHODS: A literature review on methodologies, strategies, and fundamental steps in the process of guideline development was performed. The clinical practice guideline development process and methodology adopted by the European Society for Vascular Surgery are also presented. RESULTS: Sophisticated methodologies for health guideline development are being applied increasingly by national and international organisations. Their overarching principle is a systematic, structured, transparent, and iterative process that is aimed at making well informed healthcare choices. Critical steps in guideline development include the assessment of the certainty of the body of evidence; evidence to decision frameworks; and guideline reporting. The goal of strength of evidence assessments is to provide well reasoned judgements about the guideline developers' confidence in study findings, and several evidence hierarchy schemes and evidence rating systems have been described for this purpose. Evidence to decision frameworks help guideline developers and users conceptualise and interpret the construct of the quality of the body of evidence. The most widely used evidence to decision frameworks are those developed by the GRADE Working Group and the WHO-INTEGRATE, and are structured into three distinct components: background; assessment; and conclusions. Health guideline reporting tools are employed to ensure methodological rigour and transparency in guideline development. Such reporting instruments include the AGREE II and RIGHT, with the former being used for guideline development and appraisal, as well as reporting. CONCLUSION: This guide will help guideline developers/expert panels enhance their methodology, and patients/clinicians/policymakers interpret guideline recommendations and put them in context. This document may be a useful methodological summary for health guideline development by other societies and organisations.

Le travail hospitalier psychiatrique, comme celui de l’hôpital général, réunit des acteurs de formations, de statuts et de milieux sociaux très différents qui œuvrent de concert à la prise en charge des patients. Or, les logiques hiérarchique et économique ont engendré une délégation en cascade, renforcée par la distribution officielle et officieuse des tâches. Ainsi, l’application du soin est déléguée par le psychiatre à l’infirmière, qui transfère à son tour à l’aide-soignant les tâches les moins techniques et les moins valorisées symboliquement. Ces derniers héritent des « sales boulots », ce qui les place dans une situation d’illégitimité, tant sociale que professionnelle, observable lors des décisions d’équipe. En s’appuyant sur des observations prolongées au sein de trois unités psychiatriques, cet article présente le fonctionnement de l’Unité 3, où les aides-soignants, pourtant en bas de la chaîne hiérarchique, pèsent d’un poids considérable dans les prises de décisions de leur équipe. En développant une analyse au croisement de la sociologie de la psychiatrie et de la sociologie du travail, nous élucidons les ressorts de ce fonctionnement, en explorant l’histoire de l’unité, ainsi que son idéologie psychiatrique construite localement. Work in psychiatric hospitals, much like in general hospitals, brings together actors from widely diverse professional and socioeconomic backgrounds, who nevertheless work as a team in caring for the patients. However, the influence of hierarchical and economic factors in management decisions has led to a cascading task drop further consolidated by both the formal and informal organization of labor. Indeed, the less prestigious and technical tasks are relegated from psychiatrists to nurses, who then pass on their own less rewarding tasks to nursing assistants. The latter, thus, are left in charge of the larger share of “dirty work”, which forces them into a socially and professionally illegitimate position; a position that is particularly visible in their exclusion and self-exclusion from team-wide briefings. Basing our reflection on long-term field work in three mental health units, we will present the unconventional mechanics present in the third unit wherein nursing assistants have significant sway over workplace decisions despite their hierarchical position. From a mixed perspective of both the sociology of psychiatry and the sociology of professions, we will attempt to elucidate the root causes of this framework through an exploration of the history of the unit, as well as the psychiatric ideology to which it subscribes.
