The problem of short-term sea level forecasting in the area of Сape Kamenny in the Ob’ Bay has become important since the Novoportovsky terminal (known as “Arctic Gate”) began operating for year-round oil shipment. The tankers loading the oil from the terminal have to pass through relatively shallow waters, located to the north, limiting the vessels draft. Thereby a short-term water level forecast is required relative to the lowest theoretical level for tankers loading at the terminal. The year-round hourly observations using buoy level gauges with a satellite channel of data transmission are organized for quick level monitoring directly in the area of Cape Kamenny. The results of the harmonic analysis of water level observations in the area of Cape Kamenny for 2016–2021 showed significant seasonal variability of amplitudes and phases of the wave М2 in the annual cycle, as well as their interannual variability due to various ice conditions of the Ob’ Bay (light, medium, heavy). Based on these results, the processing and analysis of observations data over the last month are performed by the end of each month. According to these results, the current values of harmonic constants, dependent on actual ice conditions are specified and calculation of the tide is carried out for the next month. The calculation of the forecast values of the total level is composed of calculated tide and short term (with a lead time of up to 5 days) forecast of non-periodic level fluctuations using the three-dimensional hydrodynamic model of joint water and ice circulation AARI-IOCM. At the final stage of the forecast preparation, the predicted level, usually calculated relative to the conditional long term average annual value, is bound to the lowest theoretical level (according to the current values of the level gauge) and transferred to the operator of the terminal and to the tanker. The hourly observations of water level in the area of Cape Kamenny and level forecasting have been carried out since 2017 and are still continuing.

Publisher Copyright: © 2023, The Author(s). Participatory modeling (PM) is a craft that is often learned by training ‘on the job’ and mastered through years of practice. There is little explicit knowledge available on identifying and documenting the skills needed to perform PM. In the modeling literature, existing attempts to identify relevant competencies have focused on the specific technical skills required for specific technical model development. The other skills required to organize and conduct the stakeholder process seem to be more vaguely and poorly defined in this context. The situation is complicated by PM being an essentially transdisciplinary craft, with no single discipline or skill set to borrow ideas and recommendations from. In this paper, we aim to set the foundation for both the practice and capacity-building efforts for PM by identifying the relevant core competencies. Our inquiry into this topic starts with reviewing and compiling literature on competencies in problem-solving research areas related to PM (e.g., systems thinking, facilitated model building, operations research, and so forth). We augment our inquiry with results from a PM practitioners’ survey to learn how they perceive the importance of different competencies and how the scope of these competencies may vary across the various roles that participatory modellers play. As a result, we identified five core competency areas essential for PM: systems thinking, modeling, group facilitation, project management and leadership, and, more recently, designing and running virtual workshops and events.

In this paper, the process of technological design of small-sized carbon fiber parts with complex geometry used in the design of unmanned aerial vehicles is considered. Approaches to the placement of splicing points in preform layers are presented. Regularities have been established that relate the number and location of splicing points in the reinforcing layers of carbon fiber reinforced composite and its mechanical characteristics.

This paper proposes a new variational RVR-method for calculating the three-dimensional stressed-strained state of statically loaded shell elements of structures with holes of arbitrary shapes and sizes. The scientifically substantiated RVR method is based on the use of the Reissner variational principle, the Vekua method, the theory of R-functions by Rvachev, and the general equations of the spatial theory of elasticity. The use of mixed Reissner variational principle leads to an increase in the accuracy of solving boundary value problems due to the independent variation of the displacement vector and the stress tensor. The Vekua method makes it possible to replace the solution to a three-dimensional problem with a regular sequence of solutions to two-dimensional problems. The theory of R-functions at the analytical level takes into account the geometric information of boundary value problems, which is necessary for the construction of solution structures that accurately satisfy all boundary conditions. At the same time, the developed algorithm for bilateral integral accuracy assessment makes it possible to automate the search for such a number of approximations in which the process of convergence of solutions becomes stable. The possibilities of the RVR method are shown in numerous examples of solving boundary problems of calculating cylindrical shells with an elliptical hole when setting centrifugal loads according to a deformed scheme. Calculations according to the specified load scheme of the anisotropic cylinder lead (at certain values of the angular velocity of rotation) to a significant increase in stresses. Therefore, to obtain reliable results, it is necessary to set a centrifugal load that takes into account the change in the size of the body in the process of its deformation. The characteristic features of the proposed RVR-method, which can be used effectively in the manufacture of shell elements of structures in various branches of technology, are discussed.

The global production created by the mankind has an intensively increasing harmful effect on the environment. As a result, we are facing the problem of the saving of natural environment and now the global community tries to find solution for this environmental problem. The power generation sector is the most environmentally aggressive of all industry branches. Technical power engineering facilities differ by a high degree of complexity making it difficult to increase the level of their environmental friendliness. In particular, centralized heat supply systems are rather complicated and responsible components of the power engineering industry. These differ by a high level of environmental aggressiveness. Hence, these need to increase a degree of their environmental friendliness. The purpose of this research was to analyze the condition of the interaction of the power generating sector with the natural environment and search for harmonization solutions of available contradictions of such an interaction. An increase of the environmental friendliness of the worn-out power equipment used by centralized heat supply systems is a topical problem. The purpose of this scientific paper was to suggest a solution for the problem of the environmental interaction of the centralized heat supply systems with natural environment using an approach of their partial renewal. The most environmentally aggressive elements of these systems are the boiler plants that emit heat and harmful substances into the environment. Domestic boiler plants have completely been worn-out. Therefore, the development of the domestic boiler building industry is of vital importance. It will enable the production of modern boiler plants instead of worn-out boiler systems. This process is impeded at the moment by the insufficiency of available resources. Contemporary requirements to the technological level of the functioning efficiency of the centralized heat-supply systems are rather high, especially as for its environmental component. Available centralized heat-supply systems have low efficiency due to a high wear-out level of their elements on the whole. There is an urgent need for an increase in the efficiency of these systems. One of the available ways of such an increase in the efficiency is a partial renewal of the equipment. The program of the partial renewal of available boiler plants allows us to provide an appropriate increase in the environmental friendliness of the worn-out equipment used by centralized heat-supply systems. The coverage of the entire fleet of the equipment available for the centralized heat-supply systems by this partial renewal program will allow for an increase in the level of its ecological friendliness on the whole.

The research of the blood-brain barrier began at the turn of the 18th19th centuries. To date due to the large number of studies conducted, it is obvious that this system has an impossibly complex structure at the organ, tissue and molecular genetic levels. Scientific interest in the changes in the blood-brain barrier that occur during pathological neoplastic processes is increasing. As it turned out, the restructuring of this system is an important and integral stage in the pathogenesis of glioblastoma, a tumor of the central nervous system with the most unfavorable prognosis. Heterogeneous structure with the formation of areas of altered cellular composition, uneven and uncontrolled permeability, provided by a large number of transport vesicles and the destruction of tight contacts between endotheliocytes, active outflow of molecules from the parenchyma due to the continuous synthesis of new portions of ABC-carrier proteins, the creation of an immature vascular network under the influence of high expression of VEGF by tumor cells the main characteristics of the hematopoietic barrier, formed in glioblastoma and supporting its survival. The further research of the features of the structure and mechanisms of functioning of the blood-brain barrier in glioblastoma is a new and promising task in modern neurooncology, the solution of which will not only expand the understanding of the biology of the most common and malignant brain tumor but will also improve the effectiveness of treatment of patients and improve the prognosis.

This article focuses on the latest edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of primary tumors of the central nervous system (CNS), which was released in 2021, and the changes in it that may have an impact on clinical practice in neurooncology. The literature review considers a modern hybrid histo-molecular approach to the taxonomy and nomenclature of primary CNS tumors. The considered aspects of the 5th edition of the classification are necessary for pathologists and specialists in the field of neurooncology.

Coastal dunes play an essential role in defence against the sea in many countries, including the Netherlands. Sandy Anthropogenic Shores (SAS) is the recent nature-based human intervention for dune reinforcement. SAS are coastal zones (including shores, dunes, lagoons, etc.) that are created or heavily modified by moving large amounts of dredged sand from offshore to near the coast. This allows natural processes (waves, winds, and currents) to spread the sand and reinforce the foredune for longer-term coastal safety. Not only the natural processes but also vegetation cover near the dune foot and on the foredune play essential roles in trapping windblown sand from the coast, steering embryo dune development and dune growth. The Sand Motor and Hondsbossche Dunes are two examples of SAS in the Netherlands. Previous studies of vegetation on SAS have mainly assessed the influence of natural conditions such as climate change, nutrient availability, sand burial, beach shape (morphology and width), hydrodynamic wave characteristics, etc., on vegetation propagation. The impacts of short-term human management of the coast and recreational activities still need to be addressed. We chose an agent-based model (ABM) approach to simulate human activities, including management and use of SAS and coupled it with a biophysical model similar to DUBEVEG. DUBEVEG is a biophysical model simulating the interactions between natural processes caused by wind, wave and tide, vegetation cover, and beach-dune sediment dynamics. We conducted several interviews and workshops with stakeholders from the management sectors. We also surveyed the beach users to elicit knowledge about social dynamics and their interaction with the biophysical system (morphology and vegetation). Using NetLogo, we developed an ABM, translating the elicited knowledge into a quantitative model. The developed ABM was used to analyse how various landscape designs of the modified coast (e.g., types and locations of recreational facilities such as restaurants, beach houses, artificial lagoons, entrances, car parking, etc.) influence human activities. Then, we used the model to explore the impact of human dynamics on vegetation growth and embryo dune development in the long term. The developed ABM model improves the sustainable design and management of the SAS by exploring the influence of SAS's initial design and short-term decisions about recreational activities and flood safety measures on the long-term evolution of the landscape (vegetation and morphology).

A physical coagulator of fines was employed to separate suspensions comprising refined sulphate cellulose and waste paper, where no reagents were required. The physical coagulator was a porous cylinder with a rotating disk placed in its cavity. Using the MorFi Neo fibre analyser and the Hitachi SU 3500 digital microscope, a dispersed size distribution of well-developed fines in a suspension derived from softwood and hardwood pulp was obtained. The kinetics of fine sedimentation in the suspension was studied. The sedimentation rate of both individual agglomerates and a mass of them, as well as the magnitude of mass concentration in a cleared liquid, was determined. A relationship between the concentration of fines in the suspension and the structure of the pulp during their sedimentation was established. To intensify the fines sedimentation process, it was proposed to return a part of the sediment to the suspension passing into the physical coagulator. Process parameters for the sedimentation process and the construction of the sedimentation tank were obtained. The unit designed for collecting fines from the suspension is shown schematically. Use of this unit reduced the fibre sedimentation time, decreased the loads in wastewaters, and retained the consumer value of the pulp fibres.

Background. Currently, the frequency of occurrence of neoplasms is emerging in the world. Under conditions of a general tumor, brain tumors are rare (0.7–1.5 %). However, high mortality, disability, limited life expectancy of patients, high economic and social inferiority, raise concerns about the medical organization of care, development and social adaptation. Of particular importance among the causes of primary brain tumors is the congenital or acquired growth of immunodeficiency. The growth in the number of drug addicts led to the elimination of the annual epidemic at the end of the 70s and the increase in the number of patients with immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), due to which the growth of a brain tumor began to develop in this population group. The number of Russian patients with lymphoma is also steadily increasing.Objective. Consider an illustrative clinical case that reflects the expected continuity in patients with ordinary CNS lymphoma.Design and methods. A 50-year-old patient with moderate memory loss was examined using various methods: MRI, PET-CT and etc.Results. Based on histological and immunohistochemical studies, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the CNS was diagnosed. There was a positive trend in the reduction of tumor size after radiation therapy.Conclusion. Primary CNS lymphoma is becoming an active epidemiological problem of society, requiring comprehensive multidisciplinary monitoring. Only high vigilance in terms of lymphoma and well-coordinated work of multidisciplinary specialists can help to perform the correct diagnostics and patient management.

Background. Craniopharyngiomas are benign epithelial tumors. According to embryogenetic theory, these neoplasms develop from the remains of the cells of Rathke’s pouch, which connects the cavities of the primary oral tube with the pituitary gland in the embryonic period. The metaplastic theory assumes the occurrence of craniopharyngiomas as a result of metaplasia of epithelial cells in the chiasmal-sellar region.Objective. To present a clinical case of ectopic adamantium-like craniopharyngioma of the right cerebellopontine angle associated with Gardner’s syndrome.Design and methods. The analysis of SCT, MRI, histological, histochemical and other special studies, as well as data from four other similar observations published in the literature, was carried out.Results. We describe a case of a rare case of ectopic adamantium-like craniopharyngioma of the right cerebellopontine angle associated with Gardner’s syndrome (familial adenomatous polyposis, multiple skull osteomas and soft tissue tumors) diagnosed in a 27-year-old patient. It is noted, while inexplicable, the correlation of craniopharyngiomas in patients with Gardner’s syndrome in the region of the cerebellopontine angle.Conclusions. In the case of patients with adamantine-like craniopharyngiomas, the including of collection of a family history and special studies to exclude adenomatous intestinal polyposis and Gardner syndrome in the complex of treatment and diagnostics id highly recommended.

In the clinic of neurosurgical treatment of tumors of the brain and spinal cord, more and more cases of diagnosis in patients with primary multiple cerebral tumors of various histological structures began to occur. And although such clinical situations are still very rare, each of them requires a personalized treatment approach, and their careful study will provide valuable new information about the biology of carcinogenesis. This article demonstrates a rare case of the development of synchronous CNS tumors of various histological structures (glioblastoma and malignant meningioma) in a patient.

A review of vortex apparatuses and processes in which a rotating gas-liquid flow is used as an intensification of heat and mass transfer is presented. It is shown that tangential swirlers, which are easy to manufacture and compact, have found the greatest application in industrial practice for creating gas (steam) rotation. It is experimentally established that tangential swirlers with annular walls of channels intended for gas passage have the lowest hydraulic resistance. The data on the hydraulic resistance of tangential swirlers with annular channels, velocity and pressure obtained experimentally and by calculation in a wide range of variation of the design parameters of the device are presented. The dependences between the hydraulic resistance of the swirler and its design parameters are revealed. Numerical simulation of the parameters of the gas flow in the channels is carried out. Diagrams of the pressure and velocity distribution are presented and analyzed, and experimental data on the influence of the design parameters of the swirler channel, such as width and length, on its hydraulic resistance are confirmed. An empirical dependence for determining the hydraulic resistance coefficient of a tangential swirler with annular channels is presented for engineering calculations.

The paper is devoted to the issue of blood donation and possible ways to promote this activity using modern information technologies. Existing software solutions are analyzed and new Web application is proposed to implement all features required for potential blood donors to make this process clearer and more comfortable.

The mankind created the global production that has an increasingly harmful effect on the natural environment. The present-day condition of natural environment causes much concern. A global environmental problem has inevitably emerged and now it requires a decrease in the intensity of the harmful action of available productive facilities. The purpose of the research done was to substantiate and find a potential opportunity for the use of a new approach to an increase in the level of ecological compatibility due to a partial renewal of the worn-out equipment. A substantial portion of the domestic energy equipment has a low level of the process-related functioning efficiency (including ecological efficiency). A global practice shows that the problems of the improvement of technological parameters can be solved in a different way to provide failure –free functioning of power facilities. The analysis of the circumstances existing nowadays in the field of the interaction of domestic power engineering and natural environment gives us an opportunity to adhere to the opinion that the use of the method of partial renewal is objectively affordable and it is a highly efficient tool for the reduction of the degree of harmful action on the part of power equipment. The purpose of this research paper was to show technological opportunities of the method of a partial renewal of worn-out engineering facilities (first of all power equipment and especially boiler plants) as an affordable tool for a decrease of the degree of their harmful action on the environment. Among the branches of the domestic industry, the power engineering branch needs badly a partial renewal and in the first turn these are boiler plants. This type of renewal is of vital importance for Ukraine that possesses a huge fleet of completely worn-out boiler plants. It is advisable to perform an integrated partial renewal. The partial renewal can involve all or individual parts of the entire chain of process elements. A successful fulfillment of the program of partial renewal is defined by a high quality control of the system of scientific and organizational-&-engineering problems relating to the renewal arrangement and realization. An issue relating to an index of the estimation of the extent of renewal of engineering facilities is of great importance. The capital inputs into the partial renewal are always justified for all intents and purposes. As for the conception of the renewal of the worn-out equipment the partial renewal can become an important launching low-cost step that will simplify the expected realization of the program of complete renewal.

Nitroxide spin probes and spin labels are broadly utilized in EPR oximetry studies ranging from in vivo investigation to profiling heterogeneous environment of lipid bilayer membranes and proteins by site-specific oxygen-accessibility experiments. In such experiments, effective collision distances of the spin exchange interaction between the nitroxide and molecular oxygen are typically assumed to be the same even though localization of spin density over the nitroxide moiety is known to be affected by local polarity. Furthermore, some biophysical studies, such as those involving lipid bilayers, are often carried out with structurally different nitroxides but the results are analyzed under an assumption that proportionality between changes in the nitroxide electronic relaxation times and the product of the local oxygen concentration and translational diffusion coefficients remain the same. Here, we present an experimental verification of such a prevailing but not yet verified assumption by measuring effects of molecular oxygen in air and pure oxygen at atmospheric pressure on continuous wave EPR spectra of six structurally different nitroxides including those capable of reversible protonation. The data were analyzed using a convolution fitting model, which, by comparing EPR spectra measured at two different oxygen concentrations, allows one to extract the peak-to-peak width $${\Delta }B_{{{\text{p}} - {\text{p}}}}$$ of a Lorentzian function that characterizes the effect of oxygen broadening. While the data on oxygen broadening measured by comparing EPR spectra of nitroxide solutions equilibrated with nitrogen and pure oxygen show clear trends that are rationalized by differences in the nitroxide structure, the overall variations in $${\Delta }B_{{{\text{p}} - {\text{p}}}}$$ for various nitroxides fall within ca. ± 5%. Such variations are comparable to the effect of “salting-out” of molecular oxygen in aqueous solutions when electrolytes are present in physiological concentrations. Overall, the data further establish nitroxides as robust EPR molecular probes to measure the product of local oxygen concentration and its translational diffusion coefficient under a wide range of conditions such as pH and electrolyte concentrations.

We record stimulated Raman scattering spectra in chemically-pure glycerol with the formation of two Stokes satellites with equidistant Raman frequencies ν = 2889 cm−1. To excite the scattered radiation, we employ short pulses of the second optical harmonic of a YAG:Nd3+ laser with a wavelength of 532 nm. Using the fundamental harmonic of the YAG:Nd3+ laser λ = 1064 nm, we convert the infrared Stokes component of stimulated Raman scattering into the visible range of the spectrum with the help of a nonlinear crystal of barium titanate. The large Raman shift of the Stokes components of stimulated Raman scattering makes it possible to use glycerol to convert laser radiation into different spectral ranges.

Post-translational modifications (PTMs) on intact histones play a major role in regulating chromatin dynamics and influence biological processes such as DNA transcription, replication, and repair. The nature and position of each histone PTM is crucial to decipher how this information is translated into biological response. In the present work, the potential of a novel tandem top-"double-down" approach─ultraviolet photodissociation followed by mobility and mass-selected electron capture dissociation and mass spectrometry (UVPD-TIMS-q-ECD-ToF MS/MS)─is illustrated for the characterization of HeLa derived intact histone H4 proteoforms. The comparison between q-ECD-ToF MS/MS spectra and traditional Fourier-transform-ion cyclotron resonance-ECD MS/MS spectra of a H4 standard showed a similar sequence coverage (∼75%) with significant faster data acquisition in the ToF MS/MS platform (∼3 vs ∼15 min). Multiple mass shifts (e.g., 14 and 42 Da) were observed for the HeLa derived H4 proteoforms for which the top-down UVPD and ECD fragmentation analysis were consistent in detecting the presence of acetylated PTMs at the N-terminus and Lys5, Lys8, Lys12, and Lys16 residues, as well as methylated, dimethylated, and trimethylated PTMs at the Lys20 residue with a high sequence coverage (∼90%). The presented top-down results are in good agreement with bottom-up TIMS ToF MS/MS experiments and allowed for additional description of PTMs at the N-terminus. The integration of a 213 nm UV laser in the present platform allowed for UVPD events prior to the ion mobility-mass precursor separation for collision-induced dissociation (CID)/ECD-ToF MS. Selected

The operating parameters of a tray having new vortex contact devices for adiabatic and nonadiabatic fractionation are investigated. In the vortex device, the vapor moves through tangential channels of the vortex tray for adiabatic and nonadiabatic fractionation, acquires swirling motion, and disperses in the fluids, forming thereby a swirling gas-liquid layer where intense heat and mass transfer takes place. Such a tray design ensures a small fluid volume in the stage and intimate mixing of the gas-liquid mixture. The investigations showed high productivity and efficiency of the vortex tray in a wide gas (vapor) load variation range. The parameters of the swirling gas-liquid layer, such as height, gas content, angular velocity, hydraulic resistance, phase contact area, and coefficient of mass transfer are determined, and an equation is proposed for their calculation. The experimental investigations of the vortex tray efficiency for adiabatic and nonadiabatic fractionation demonstrated that mass transfer in the vapor phase is intensified in nonadiabatic conditions.

In this paper, we present the results of the first beam tests of the detection system at the focal plane of the Dubna Gas-Filled Recoil Separator-2 (DGFRS-2), which receives beams from the DC-280 FLNR cyclotron. The high beam intensity of 48Ca+10 heavy ions from the cyclotron enables us to obtain a number of superheavy recoils sufficient to compare both the measured and calculated spectra of superheavy recoils implanted into a silicon detector. A real-time algorithm to search for an Evaporation Residue (ER) — α correlated sequences is described in brief. It should be noted that the DGFRS-2 spectrometer operates in conjunction with the 48 × 128 strip DSSD (Double-sided Silicon Strip Detector; 48 × 226 mm2) detector and a low-pressure pentane-filled gaseous detector (1.2 Torr; 80 × 230 mm2). A block-diagram of the spectrometer and the event format are also presented. Special attention is paid to the response of a low-pressure pentane-filled ΔE multiwire proportional chamber for recoils of Fl, synthesized in the 242Pu + 48Ca → 287Fl + 3n complete fusion nuclear reaction. Some actual parameters of the detection system have also been extracted from natYb + 48Ca, 232Th + 48Ca, 243Am + 48Ca, 238U + 48Ca reactions. The effect of neighbor strip charge sharing for the ohmic side of the DSSD detector is also under consideration.

Electron-based dissociation (ExD) produces uncluttered mass spectra of intact proteins while preserving labile post-translational modifications. However, technical challenges have limited this option to only a few high-end mass spectrometers. We have developed an efficient ExD cell that can be retrofitted in less than an hour into current LC/Q-TOF instruments. Supporting software has been developed to acquire, process, and annotate peptide and protein ExD fragmentation spectra. In addition to producing complementary fragmentation, ExD spectra enable many isobaric leucine/isoleucine and isoaspartate/aspartate pairs to be distinguished by side-chain fragmentation. The ExD cell preserves phosphorylation and glycosylation modifications. It also fragments longer peptides more efficiently to reveal signaling cross-talk between multiple post-translational modifications on the same protein chain and cleaves disulfide bonds in cystine knotted proteins and intact antibodies. The ability of the ExD cell to combine collisional activation with electron fragmentation enables more complete sequence coverage by disrupting intramolecular electrostatic interactions that can hold fragments of large peptides and proteins together. These enhanced capabilities made possible by the ExD cell expand the size of peptides and proteins that can be analyzed as well as the analytical certainty of characterizing their post-translational modifications.

The paper describes an up-to-date approach to searching for an optimal blade shape for the airplane propeller while considering geometric and technological restrictions. This approach uses the advanced parametric optimization methods. The paper shows an application of the approach developed to obtain an optimal aerodynamic blade shape for different engine operation modes.

The extremely important role of innovation management in the digital transformation age determines the relevance of this research. The development of the theory of innovation, which began in the first half of the 20th century, has gained numerous apologists and antagonists. However, the process of evolution of innovative views in the society of the cyber industries is being further updated. The research aims to consider the prospects of information systems in knowledge management in the search for new resources for the growth of the real sector of the economy and, in particular, through the organization of the process of commercial use of intellectual property objects in industrial production in the period of digital transformation. The following research tasks are set: to determine contemporary methodological approaches in innovation management, to identify new opportunities for the growth of the real sector due to the use of the strategy of intellectual capital management, to consider specific trends for bringing knowledge-intensive products to the market in branches 4.0.
