Background: Hair transplantation for the treatment of secondary cicatricial alopecia has recently become a more widely used technique. Objective: The aims of this study were to evaluate the results of use of hair transplantation surgery in patients with secondary cicatricial alopecia, to compare the results of the procedure with regard to different etiologies and to evaluate patient satisfaction. Patients and Methods: Forty-five patients with a definitive clinical diagnosis of secondary cicatricial alopecia were included in this retrospective study. Patients' characteristics were obtained retrospectively from medical records. The percentage of amelioration of cicatricial alopecia and patient satisfaction was obtained by interviewing patients. Results: Thirty-nine patients (86.7%) were satisfied and very satisfied with the procedure. While all patients who underwent hair transplantation for the treatment of facial cicatricial alopecic areas were satisfied, patients with hypertrophic scars were not satisfied significantly. Patient satisfaction was correlated to the percentage of amelioration of cicatricial alopecia. While patients with permanent alopecia as a result of developmental defects were satisfied the most, patients with postoperative and posttraumatic scars were satisfied the least. There was no difference between two different hair transplantation methods with regard to patient satisfaction. Conclusion: Hair transplantation done directly into scar tissue could be the first line treatment in selected cases with secondary cicatricial alopecia as this method is less traumatic and easier to perform in comparison with other surgical treatment methods.

BOTULINUM toxin , *OPERATIVE surgery , *SKIN aging , *HAIR transplantation , *PHYSICIANS , *LIPOSUCTION , *CONFIDENCE - Abstract
Skin aging differs in men and men shows poorer facial aging signs than women. There is an increased trend in surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures among men to reverse the facial aging signs. Nowadays, men are the consumers of close to 10% of all cosmetic treatments. While hair transplantation and liposuction are mostly performed surgical cosmetic procedures, botulinum toxin injection is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure in men patients. The main concern of men regarding cosmetic procedures is possibility of gaining an unnatural and feminene appearance. Cosmetic procedures, which were performed with consideration the anatomical and behavioral differences of men, will change the male patients 'perspective on cosmetic procedures and increase the male patients' confidence to the doctors and also will cause an increase in the number of male patients who are willing to these procedures. Background and Design: Primary excision and hair transplantation are infrequently used to treat stable primary cicatricial alopecia (PCA). Follicular unit extraction (FUE) method has gained popularity in recent years. In this study, we aimed to investigate long-term results and effectiveness of hair transplantation in the treatment of PCA. Materials and Methods: In this study, 9 patients with stable (at least for a year) and histopathologically proven PCA, who were treated with FUE hair transplantation between 2011 and 2014, were evaluated retrospectively. Medical archive data was used to retrieve treatment details and results of the treatment. Patient satisfaction was evaluated by using a five-point Likert scale. Results: Nine patients with a median age of 41 years were included retrospectively in this study. Median disease duration was six years and median stable disease duration was two years. Histopathological diagnoses were lichen planopilaris (4 cases), frontal fibrosing alopecia (2 cases), pseudopelade (2 cases), and folliculitis decalvans (1 case). Test transplantation sessions were performed in three patients who were under 30 years of age or who were clinically suspected to have non-stable PCA. Hair transplantation was not performed in one patient due to disease activation after the test transplantation session. Median 1250 grafts were transplanted in eight patients with using FUE technique. The patients were regularly followed up for a median of 26 months duration. Only one patient, out of eight transplanted, experienced reactivations in donor and recipient area in the postoperative second year. In seven transplanted patients, there was not any reactivation and five patients were very satisfied with the result of hair transplantation. Conclusion: Optimal long-term results following surgical treatment can be achieved in PCA patients with proper patient selection. In this selected group of PCA patients, FUE method of hair transplantation is a reliable choice of surgical treatment method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
