Bu çalışmada imam hatip ortaokulu öğrencilerinin okuma kültürü düzeylerinin tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma, tarama modelinde betimsel bir araştırmadır. Çalışmada, veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen ve 20 sorudan oluşan ‘Okuma Profili Anketi’ kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Antalya ili Alanya ilçesindeki imam hatip ortaokullarında öğrenim gören 271 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde yüzde ve frekans analizleri ile ki-kare analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Çalışmada öğrencilerin çoğunun boş vakitlerini geçirmek ve keyif almak için kitap okudukları; roman, hikâye, masal gibi kurgusal türleri ve macera/polisiye, kişisel gelişim konulu eserleri tercih ettikleri belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin yabancılardan ziyade yerli yazarları okudukları, dijital araçları ve interneti genel anlamda kitap okuma amacıyla kullanmadıkları da tespit edilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra öğrencilerin kitapları genellikle kitapçıdan satın alarak temin ettikleri ve baskı hâlinde okudukları, kitap seçiminde en çok kitabın konusuna ve kapağına dikkat ettikleri de ortaya konmuştur. Ayrıca araştırma sonuçları, öğrencilerin kütüphaneye gitme oranlarının düşük olduğunu ve süreli yayınları takip etmediklerini de ortaya koymuştur.

Bu çalışmada PISA 2018 Türkiye verilerinden hareketle öğretmen desteği, okuma öz-yeterliği, okuma alışkanlığı, okuma zevki ve PISA okuma okuryazarlığı performansı arasındaki ilişkilerin incelenmesi ve öğretmen desteği ile motivasyon kaynaklarının PISA okuma okuryazarlığı performansına katkısının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. İlişkisel tarama modeliyle yürütülen çalışmada değişkenlerin PISA okuma okuryazarlığı performansına katkısını belirlemek için hiyerarşik lineer model kurulmuştur. Çalışmanın örneklemi PISA 2018 Türkiye katılımcılarından oluşan on beş yaş grubu 5670 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Çalışma sonucunda PISA okuma okuryazarlığı performansı ile okuma öz-yeterliği, okuma alışkanlığı, okuma zevki ve öğretmen desteği arasında pozitif yönde ilişki bulunmuştur. Değişkenlerin PISA okuma okuryazarlığı performansına katkısına bakıldığında okuma öz-yeterliği, okuma alışkanlığı ve okuma zevki, performansın %11,5’ini açıklarken öğretmen desteği ise %1’ini açıklamaktadır. Ulaşılan sonuçlar, ilgili araştırmaların sonuçlarıyla tartışılmış, Türkiye’deki okuma eğitimi ile ilgili önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, okuma kültürünün geliştirilmesine yönelik aile farkındalık programının (OKGYAFP) çocukta okuma kültürü oluşturmaya yönelik aile yeterliliğine etkisini belirlemek ve ailelerin OKGYAFP deneyimlerinin okuma kültürü oluşturmaya yönelik yeterliliklerini nasıl değiştirdiğini keşfetmektir. Bu nedenle çalışmada karma yöntem araştırma desenlerinden açımlayıcı sıralı karma desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel aşamasında öntest-sontest kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen tercih edilmiştir. Nitel aşamasında ise odak grup görüşmeleri yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel boyutunun katılımcılarını Aydın ili Köşk ilçesinde bulunan bir devlet okulunun iki 2. sınıf şubesinin gönüllü velileri (n=30) oluşturmuştur. Nitel boyutunun çalışma grubunu ise araştırmanın deney grubunda yer alan velilerden gönüllü 10 kişi oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Okuma Kültürü Oluşturmada Aile Yeterliliği Ölçeği ve görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırmanın nicel verilerinin analizi için betimsel istatistiklerin yanı sıra tek yönlü kovaryans analizinden (ANCOVA) yararlanılmıştır. Nitel veriler ise içerik analizi yöntemiyle çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre deney grubu velilerinin okuma kültürü oluşumunda aile yeterliliği son test puanlarının anlamlı düzeyde farklılaştığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca OKGYAFP’nin deney grubunu oluşturan veliler üzerinde okuma kültürü ediniminde aile yeterliliği noktasında yüksek etkiye sahip olduğu bulgusuna da ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda aileler programın okuma kültürü bağlamında farkındalık oluşturduğunu ifade etmiştir. Katılımcı ailelerin programın sonunda okuma kültürü oluşturmada aile yeterliliği düzeyleri ile programa ilişkin görüşlerinin tam olarak örtüştüğü de görülmüştür.

Reading is as well as language teaching it is tool for acquiring knowledge and learning. Students' acquisition of necessary skills for their linguistic, cognitive and affective development can be achieved by making reading skills a habit. For this reason, reading habits have an important place in the academic, social, individual development and progress targeted by the education system for students at all levels of formal education. The purpose of this research, is to examine the findings obtained from the studies on the reading habits of the students studying in primary secondary and higher education intitutions in the Turkish publication literature between the years 1990-2020, using with the meta-synthesis method. Within the scope of the inclusion criteria determined in this research, the data of the postgraduate thesis, article and notice studies related to the reading habits of the students in Turkey with qualitative and quantitative method were collected and analyzed in accordance with the meta-synthesis research method. The examination and analysis of the collected research data was carried out according to the application/analysis stage of the meta-synthesis method. The findings obtained as a result of the meta-synthesis study are as follows: In Turkey, students mainly read in order to increase their accumulation of knowledge, academic success and to spend their spare time. Students do not have adequate reading habits in Turkey. Students use libraries mostly. However, the use of the library does not usually play a positive role in helping students acquire reading habits. Course load/exams, watching television and using computers are standing out as obstacles to students' reading habits. Parents and teachers are mostly effective on students' reading habits. The fact that, students spend more time watching television and playing games on the computer/internet than reading, affects their reading habits negatively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Teknolojinin kitaba izdüşümü olan e-kitap olgusu modern çağın yeni okuma biçimini oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın öncül amacı da üniversite öğrencilerinin e-kitap okuma alışkanlıkları olarak belirlenmiştir. Söz konusu amaca ulaşmak için çalışma nitel veri toplama teknikleri içerisinde yer alan, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma evrenini, 2019-2020 öğretim yılında Kırıkkale Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören lisans öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler frekans değerleri alınarak tablolaştırılmıştır. Buna göre araştırmada, üniversite öğrencileri arasında e-kitap okuma aracına sahip olma düzeyi oldukça düşüktür. Katılımcıların büyük çoğunluğu okumalarını cep telefonu üzerinden gerçekleştirmektedirler. Buna karşın basılı kitaplar halen en çok tercih edilen okuma araçları olarak yerini korumaktadır. Yine katılımcıların büyük çoğunluğunun e-kitap ya da bilgisayar üzerinden okumalarını kısa aralıklarla yaptıkları ve baştan sona bir kitabı okumadıkları tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca e-kitabın gözü ve bedeni yorması gibi nedenlerle tercih edilmediği de belirlemeler arasındadır.

10. Okuma Alışkanlığı ve Üstbilişsel Yazma Stratejileri Farkındalığının Yazma Başarımı Üzerindeki Etkisi: Bir Yapısal Eşitlik Modellemesi

Bu çalışma, okuma alışkanlığının ve üstbilişsel yazma stratejileri farkındalığının yazma başarımı üzerinde yordayıcı rolünün olup olmadığını ve bu değişkenlerin açıklayıcılık oranlarının ne düzeyde olduğunu saptamak amacıyla ilişkisel tarama modelinde desenlenmiştir. Araştırma, sekizinci sınıfa devam eden 100 öğrenci ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma verilerinin toplanmasında üstbilişsel yazma stratejileri farkındalığı ve ortaokul kitap okuma alışkanlığı ölçekleri ile öğrencilerin oluşturduğu yazılı anlatım metinleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular; yazma başarımının (YB) okuma alışkanlığı (OA) tarafından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde yordanmadığı, üstbilişsel yazma stratejileri farkındalık düzeyinin (ÜYSFD) OA tarafından ve YB’nin de ÜYSFD tarafından pozitif yönde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı biçimde yordandığı yönündedir. Açıklayıcılık oranlarına bakıldığında OA’nın YB’ye ait varyansın %21.2’sini; OA’nın ÜYSFD’ye ait varyansın %61.9’unu; ÜYSFD’nin YB’ye ait varyansın ise %34.4’ünü açıklayabildiği görülür. Ayrıca araştırmada OA’nın YB üzerindeki dolaylı etkisi istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur. Sonuçlara toplam etki açısından bakıldığında, YB’nin en baskın yordayıcısının 0.64 toplam etkiyle ÜYSFD olduğu, bunu 0.50 etkiyle OA’nın takip ettiği görülmektedir.

The aim of the study is to examine the reading habits and social media usage behaviors of high school students. The participants of the descriptive study are 517 high school students studying in different classes in the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. Descriptive statistics, Chi-Square and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze the data. As a result of the findings of the study, it was seen that half of the high school students do not have a reading habit. It has been determined that as the grade level increases, reading habits decrease and female students have better reading habits than male students. In terms of social media use, students spend approximately three hours on their smartphones with social media. Whatsapp, Instagram and Youtube are the most used mobile social media applications. In addition, it has been observed that students who use social media intensively during the day are in the "not reading enough books" or "not reading books" group. Finally, it has been seen that among the reasons why students who do not have the habit of reading, do not find reading fun, being bored while reading a book and spending time with digital games. The aim of this study is to investigate preservice classroom teachers' reading motivations, metacognitive reading strategies and attitudes towards reading habits. Data were collected from 217 students in Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Education during the spring semester of 2016-2017 academic year. The design of the study is correlational survey method. Adult reading motivation scale, metacognitive reading strategies scale and attitude scale related to reading habits were used as data collection tools. Descriptive and predictive statistical methods were used to analyze the data and statistical package program was used for data analysis. Mean and standard deviation values were used to determine metacognitive reading strategies, reading motivations, and the attitudes of reading habits, Pearson correlation analysis method to test the relationship between them, unpaired t test and ANOVA were used to determine their differences according to university student's demographic characteristics. According to the results of the analysis, the participants frequently use metacognitive strategies and their reading motivation and attitudes towards reading habits are high. Moreover, there are positive and meaningful relationships between metacognitive reading strategies, reading motivations and reading habits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rapidly developing information technology affects the reading habits of young people. At the present time, research on reading habits of young people is still important. There is not a lot of intercultural studies on reading habits in Turkish literature. In this study were comparatively examined the similar and different features about reading habits of Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University (KMU) Turkish Language/Literature and Baku State University (BSU) Azerbaijan Language/Literature Departments last year students that despite having common culture taking place in different regions (Turkey and Azerbaijan). In this context, the main aim of the study is to determine the similar and different characteristics of the reading habits the last year students of KMU Turkish Language/Literature Department and BSU Azerbaijan Language/Literature Department. In this research were used description and comparison methods. For this purpose, a total of 187 students from both universities were surveyed. The results were evaluated using SPSS 21 statistical program. The chi-square analysis was applied to the data obtained from the two groups of students included in the study. According to the results of the research, the students are reading a book monthly. The students of the both departments, enjoy reading books at a mid level and they think that it is absolutely important for a teacher to gain reading habits. Students in these departments think that they do not have all the necessary knowledge and skills to gain reading habit. At the end of the study, it is suggested to put the lecture/content related to reading habit into the involved department programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bu araştırmanın amacı, 1990-2020 yılları arasında Türkiye yayın literatüründe ulaşılan ilköğretim, ortaöğretim ve yükseköğretim kurumlarında öğrenim gören öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlığı ile ilgili yapılmış çalışmalardan elde edilen bulguları meta sentez yöntemiyle incelemektir. Bu araştırmada belirlenen dâhil edilme kriterleri kapsamında Türkiye’de öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlığı ile ilgili nitel ve nicel yöntemle yapılmış lisansüstü tez, makale ve bildiri çalışmalarının verileri meta sentez araştırma yöntemine uygun olarak toplanmış ve analiz edilmiştir. Meta sentez çalışması sonucu ulaşılan bulgular şöyledir: Türkiye’de öğrenciler ağırlıklı olarak okumayı bilgi birikimlerini, akademik başarılarını artırmak ve boş zamanlarını değerlendirmek amacıyla yapmaktadırlar. Türkiye’de öğrenciler yeterli düzeyde okuma alışkanlığına sahip değildir. Öğrenciler çoğunlukla kütüphaneleri kullanmaktadırlar. Ancak kütüphane kullanımının öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlığı kazanmasında çoğunlukla olumlu bir rolü yoktur. Öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlığına engel durumlar olarak ders yoğunluğu/sınavlar ile televizyon izleme, bilgisayar kullanımı öne çıkmaktadır. Öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlığı üzerinde çoğunlukla ebeveynleri ve öğretmenleri etkili olmaktadır. Reading is as well as language teaching it is tool for acquiring knowledge and learning. Students’ acquisition of necessary skills for their linguistic, cognitive and affective development can be achieved by making reading skills a habit. For this reason, reading habits have an important place in the academic, social, individual development and progress targeted by the education system for students at all levels of formal education. The purpose of this research, is to examine the findings obtained from the studies on the reading habits of the students studying in primary secondary and higher education intitutions in the Turkish publication literature between the years 1990-2020, using with the meta-synthesis method. Within the scope of the inclusion criteria determined in this research, the data of the postgraduate thesis, article and notice studies related to the reading habits of the students in Turkey with qualitative and quantitative method were collected and analyzed in accordance with the meta-synthesis research method. The examination and analysis of the collected research data was carried out according to the application/analysis stage of the meta-synthesis method. The findings obtained as a result of the meta-synthesis study are as follows: In Turkey, students mainly read in order to increase their accumulation of knowledge, academic success and to spend their spare time. Students do not have adequate reading habits in Turkey. Students use libraries mostly. However, the use of the library does not usually play a positive role in helping students acquire reading habits. Course load/exams, watching television and using computers are standing out as obstacles to students’ reading habits. Parents and teachers are mostly effective on students’ reading habits. The fact that, students spend more time watching television and playing games on the computer/internet than reading, affects their reading habits negatively.

This research was conducted to reveal the enriched library experiences of students with a case study. Atatürk Elementary School, located in the city center of Artvin, constituted the sample of this research. The enriched library environment was observed every two weeks for a year, one year after the opening of the library, and 15 students were interviewed, the library documents were examined. Findings of the study show the following results. Students were aware of the features of the enriched library in general, showed considerable interest in the early months after the library was opened, and used the library primarily for circulation. The library also contributed to the reading habits of the students. Despite these benefits, it was clear that some problems stemming from the nature of the enriched library emerged during the process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

25. Prospective Teachers’ Reasons: The Importance of Reading a Book

Prospective teachers play an important role in establishing the literacy proficiency of future generations. However, this situation also suggests such points as types of prospective teachers’ attitudes towards reading and the reason of their reading. In order to investigate these points, this study was designed descriptively. An open-ended questionnaire was used to collect the data through 132 prospective teachers from Instructor Training Program of Education Faculty at Pamukkale University. The data was analyzed based on the rules of content analysis. The results about prospective teachers’ views on the importance of reading were categorized into three themes as academic, social and personal reasons and each theme was presented by frequencies and percentages of participants’ responses. The findings of this descriptive study indicated that prospective teachers viewed reading as important for academic, social and personal reasons. The academic theme is divided into three sub-themes as acquiring the knowledge, improving language skills and developing critical and creative thinking skills. The social theme is comprised of five sub-themes as appreciating alternative perspectives, participating in society, recognizing and understanding different peoples and cultures, learning about current events, establishing empathy. Finally, the personal theme is divided into five sub-themes as developing personal identity, organizing one’s life, relaxation, experiencing enjoyment, happiness.

Reading has an undeniable importance in human life. The reading habits of teachers who educate future generations are extremely important in their education as weel as in their professional lives. In this study, we aimed to determine preservice teachers' reading habits, leisure time activities and reading motivations. In this context, reading was taken in a broader sense that includes reading of new technological materials and environments besides traditional materials. According to the results of the research preservice teachers could be classified as –genrally- aliteratetype reader and they don’t have the habit of using libraries. Students read technological tools and environments every day, while the usage ofbooks and traditional reading materials is relatively small. Some suggestions proposed at the end; such as, the technological progress to be taken into consideration while developing the habit of reading and reading traditional materials should be handled with technology together not as contestant.

Ancak kütüphane kullanımının öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlığı kazanmasında çoğunlukla olumlu bir rolü yoktur. However, the use of the library does not usually play a positive role in helping students acquire reading habits. Course load/exams, watching television and using computers are standing out as obstacles to students' reading habits. Parents and teachers are mostly effective on students' reading habits. The fact that, students spend more time watching television and playing games on the computer/internet than reading, affects their reading habits negatively.

Okuma eyleminin bireysel bir davranıştan alışkanlığa, alışkanlıktan kültüre evrilmesi ve demokratik, uygar bir toplum olmanın gereği olarak bir yaşam şekline dönüşebilmesi için alışkanlıkların edinildiği dönem olan bireyin ortaokul yılları önem arz etmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma kültürü edinme süreçlerini çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelemektir. Bu araştırma, tarama türünde betimsel bir çalışmadır. Araştırmanın evrenini, 2020-2021 eğitim öğretim yılında Diyarbakır ili Sur ilçesindeki bir devlet ortaokulunun 5, 6, 7 ve 8. sınıflarında öğrenim gören toplam 641 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında örneklem alma yoluna gidilmeyip evrenin tamamına ulaşılmaya çalışılmıştır. COVID-19 pandemisi nedeniyle öğrencilerin okula devam durumları göz önünde bulundurularak okula gelen öğrencilere ölçek yüz yüze uygulanmış, pandemi nedeniyle okula gelemeyen öğrencilere ise online anket yöntemiyle ölçekler ulaştırılmıştır. Gerek yüz yüze gerek online yöntemleriyle bu ortaokulda öğrenim gören 641 öğrencinin tamamına ölçekler ulaştırılmış, 602 ölçeğe yanıt alınabilmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak “Kitap Okuma Alışkanlığına İlişkin Tutum Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde ise SPSS istatistik paket programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular, ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma alışkanlıklarının “yarar” boyutuna ilişkin tutumları en yüksek düzeyde iken “sevgi” boyutuna ilişkin tutumlarının diğer boyutlara kıyasla düşük düzeyde olduğunu göstermiştir. Okuma alışkanlığına ilişkin tutum düzeylerinin genel olarak “yüksek” seviyede olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca yapılan analizler sonucunda öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlıkları ile cinsiyetleri, sınıf düzeyleri, anne ve baba eğitim durumlarına göre anlamlı farklar olduğu tespit edilmiştir. In order for the act of reading to evolve from an individual behavior to a habit, from a habit to a culture and to transform into a life style as a necessity of being a democratic and civilized society, the middle school years of the individual, which is the period in which habits are acquired, are important. The purpose of this research is to examine the process of acquiring a reading culture of secondary school students in terms of various variables. This research is a descriptive study in survey type. The population of the research consists of a total of 641 students studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades of a public secondary school in Sur district of Diyarbakır province in the 2020-2021 academic year. Within the scope of the research, sampling was not used, since the whole population was tried to be reached. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, taking into account the attendance of students to school, a face-to-face scale was applied to the students who came to the school, and the scales were delivered to the students who could not attend school due to the pandemic via an online questionnaire method. Scales were delivered to all 641 students studying at this secondary school, both face-to-face and online, and answers to 602 scales were obtained. In the research, “Attitude Scale Regarding Reading Habits” was used as a data collection tool. SPSS statistical package program was used in the analysis of the data. The findings obtained from the study showed that while middle school students’ attitudes towards the “benefit” dimension of their reading habits were at the highest level, their attitudes towards the “love” dimension were at a low level compared to the other dimensions. It has been determined that the attitude levels towards reading habits are generally at a “high” level. In addition, as a result of the analyzes made, it was determined that there were significant differences according to the reading habits of the students, their gender, grade levels, and educational status of their parents.

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of parents’ reading habits, shared-reading activities, and socio-cultural characteristics on the receptive and expressive language development levels of their children. In this correlational study, 302 parents and their 48-72 month olds children, who were selected through random sampling, participated. Data were collected using the Turkish Early Language Development Test (TELD-3) to measure children’s language development, and Child-Parent Shared Reading Activities (ÇEBOE) to determine co-reading habits and activities. For data analysis, the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation coefficient and hierarchical regression were used. The results of the study showed that as the education level of the parent, the age of the child, and the frequency of reading increases, the language development scores of the children increase. On the other hand, as the number of children in the family increased and the age of purchasing the first book for the child increased, the language scores of the children decreased. Except for the “opinions about shared reading” dimension, there was no significant relationship between reading activities and children’s language development. Socio-cultural factors including the age children, income and parental education level, and the time of purchasing the first book and the frequency of reading had significant effects on predicting language development © 2022, Milli Egitim.All Rights Reserved.

The present study is an investigation of the reading habits of the fourth/final year students at the Faculty of Education, Uludag University. The study employs the method of scanning through utilizing a questionnaire based on the native and foreign language reading habits of a total of 228 teacher candidates enrolled in either one of the English, French, and German Foreign Language Teaching Department. The questionnaire administered, originally designed by Shen (2006), “the student weekly reading habit questionnaire,” was slightly adapted and translated by the researchers from English to Turkish. Findings of the research display that while the type of reading source shows distinctive results, the teacher candidates based on their foreign language divisions also vary in their habits of reading.

[Turkish abstract]Okuma alışkanlığı, okuma eyleminin sürekli, düzenli ve eleştirel olarak sürdürülmesidir. Okuma alışkanlığının özünde sürdürülebilirlik yaklaşımı bulunmaktadır. Sürdürülebilir okuma alışkanlığı, bireyin yaşamının her döneminde okuma eylemini kalıcı ve düzenli olarak devam ettirmesini ifade eder. Türkiye’de okuma kültürünün gelişmiş ülke ortalamalarının oldukça altında olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu bakımdan çalışmanın temel amacı Türkiye’nin genel yapısında gözlemlenen bu olumsuz tablonun üniversite öğrencileri üzerine ne düzeyde yansıdığına ilişkin durum saptamasıdır. Çalışmada ilk olarak okuma alışkanlığı kavramsal olarak irdelenmekte, daha sonra Türkiye’de okuma alışkanlığının durumu ortaya konmakta ve son olarak da Ankara Üniversitesi lisans öğrencileri üzerinde yapılan anket uygulamasının sonuçları değerlendirilmektedir. Çıkan sonuçlar yüksek öğrenim boyunca öğrencilerin okuma becerisinde gelişme olduğunu, buna karşın yeterli okuma alışkanlığına sahip olmadıklarını göstermektedir. [English abstract] Reading habit is the realization of reading activity in a continuous, systematic and critical way. In the essence of this habit, the marking approach is sustainability. Sustainable reading habit is that an individual continues with his/her reading activity at every of his/her life’s phases, and in a permanent and proper form. It is known that, reading habit as a cultural attitude in Turkey is on the average lower than those being exercised in developed countries. This study aims at examining effects of this negative situation on university students. In the first part of the paper, conceptual analysis of reading habit is made and then, the intensity of the reading habit in Turkey is examined. Finally, the results of survey study conducted among Ankara University students are evaluated. Results reveal that although there seems to exist a relative developedness in reading habits of the sample, inadequacies are discernible.

ÖzBu çalışma, Türkiye’de 2005–2006 öğretim yılında uygulanmaya başlanan 2004 İlköğretim Programı’nın okuma ve kütüphane kullanma alışkanlıklarını hangi düzeyde ve nasıl bir yaklaşım içinde ele aldığını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma, Ankara Büyükşehir Belediyesi sınırları içinde bulunan 2’si özel 7 ilköğretim okulunda görev yapan sınıf öğretmenleri üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çerçevede, bu okullardaki 118 öğretmene anket uygulanmıştır. Çalışmada, öğretmenlerin, okuma ve kütüphane kullanma alışkanlıkları açısından ilköğretim programlarına ilişkin görüşleri analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, öğretmenlerin okuma ve kütüphane kullanma alışkanlıklarının sözü edilen programda sistematik bir yaklaşımla ele alınmadığı görüşünde oldukları anlaşılmıştır.AbstractThe purpose of the research was to determine how the reading and library use habits were approached in 2004 primary school program, of which the implementation took place in the 2005–2006 school year. The empirical study was made by means of a survey of class teachers who worked in 5 state and 2 private elementary schools, all being located in the municipality of Ankara. In this context, data out of 118 questionnaires were collected from the teachers. Thus the teachers’ views on primary school program in terms of reading and library use habits could be analyzed. The teachers shared overwhelmingly the opinion that the program did not handle the reading and library use habits properly and by means of a systematic approach.

- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine attitudes of preschool teacher candidates regarding reading habit in terms of online learning. Relational model was used in the research. While the population of the study consisted of teacher candidates receiving education in the Faculty of Education on Inonu University, the sample group consisted of 134 preschool teacher candidates selected from the population by using criterion sampling method. The data were collected by using "General Information Form" and "Attitude Scale Towards Reading Habit" developed by Gömleksiz (2004). Kolmogorow-Smirnov, Independent Samples t Test, and One Way Analysis of Variance (One Way Anova) were used to analyze the data. In conclusion, it was determined that attitudes towards reading habit of teacher candidates did not change in terms of variables of internet access, having a computer, and intended use of the internet; while there was a significant difference in the benefit and effect subscales in terms of the variable of having a smart phone, there was no significant difference in the other subscales. Okuma eyleminin bireysel bir davranıştan alışkanlığa, alışkanlıktan kültüre evrilmesi ve demokratik, uygar bir toplum olmanın gereği olarak bir yaşam şekline dönüşebilmesi için alışkanlıkların edinildiği dönem olan bireyin ortaokul yılları önem arz etmektedir. Bu bağlamda bu araştırmanın amacı, ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma kültürü edinme süreçlerini etkileyen değişkenleri incelemektir. Araştırmanın evrenini, 2020-2021 eğitim öğretim yılında Diyarbakır ili Sur ilçesindeki bir devlet ortaokulunun 5, 6, 7 ve 8. sınıflarında öğrenim gören toplam 641 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında örneklem alma yoluna gidilmeyip evrenin tamamına ulaşılmaya çalışılmıştır. COVID-19 pandemisi nedeniyle öğrencilerin okula devam durumları göz önünde bulundurularak okula gelen öğrencilere yüz yüze ölçek uygulanmış, pandemi nedeniyle okula gelemeyen öğrencilere ise online anket yöntemiyle ölçekler ulaştırılmıştır. Gerek yüz yüze gerek online yöntemleriyle bu ortaokulda öğrenim gören 641 öğrencinin tamamına ölçekler ulaştırılmış, 602 ölçeğe yanıt alınabilmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak "Kitap Okuma Alışkanlığına İlişkin Tutum Ölçeği" kullanılmıştır. Bu ölçek, 6 faktör ve 30 maddeden oluşmaktadır. Ölçeğin Cronbach-Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı .90 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde ise SPSS istatistik paket programı kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlıklarına yönelik görüşlerini ortaya çıkarmak için betimsel istatistiklerin (frekans, yüzde, aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma vb.) yanı sıra İlişkisiz Örneklemler için t Testi (Independent Samples t Test), tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA), Kruskal Wallis-H testi ve Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular, ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma alışkanlıklarının "yarar" boyutuna ilişkin tutumları en yüksek düzeyde iken "sevgi" boyutuna ilişkin tutumlarının diğer boyutlara kıyasla düşük düzeyde olduğunu göstermiştir. Okuma alışkanlığına ilişkin tutum düzeylerinin genel olarak "yüksek" seviyede olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca yapılan analizler sonucunda öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlıkları ile cinsiyetleri, sınıf düzeyleri, anne ve baba eğitim durumları, kütüphane kullanımları, okul öncesi eğitim alma durumlarına göre anlamlı farklar olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçları bir bütün olarak değerlendirildiğinde çocuklarda okumanın bir kültür haline gelebilmesi için okuma alışkanlığının sevgi ve istek boyutuna ilşkin tutumlarının yüksek düzeyde olması gerekmektedir. Öğretmenlerin, yöneticilerin ve ebeveynlerin paydaşları olduğu okuma alışkanlığı paydasındaki süreç; progmatik ve pragmatik olduğu kadar duygu temelli de olmalıdır. Bu amaca istinaden ebeveynlere ve öğretmenlere büyük görevler düştüğü ve çocuğun aile ortamı, etkilendiği kişiler, kitaplara ve kütüphaneye maruz kalmasının okuma alışkanlığı sürecinin önemli değişkenleri arasında yer aldığı göz ardı edilmemelidir. In order for the act of reading to evolve from an individual behavior to a habit, from a habit to a culture and to transform into a life style as a necessity of being a democratic and civilized society, the middle school years of the individual, which is the period in which habits are acquired, are important. In this context, the purpose of this study is to examine the variables that affect the processes of secondary school students' acquisition of reading culture. The population of the research consists of a total of 641 students studying in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades of X secondary school in Sur district of Diyarbakır province in the academic year of 2020-2021. Within the scope of the research, sampling was not used and the whole population was tried to be reached. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, taking into account the attendance of students to school, a face-to-face scale was applied to the students who came to the school, and the scales were delivered to the students who could not attend school due to the pandemic via an online questionnaire method. Scales were delivered to all 641 students studying at this secondary school, both face-to-face and online, and answers to 602 scales were obtained. In the research, "Attitude Scale Regarding Reading Habits" was used as a data collection tool. This scale consists of 6 factors and 30 items. The Cronbach-Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated as .90. SPSS statistical package program was used in the analysis of the data. Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, etc.) as well as Independent Samples t Test for Unrelated Samples, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Kruskal Wallis-H test and Mann-Whitney U test was used to reveal students' views on reading habits. The findings obtained from the study showed that while middle school students' attitudes towards the "benefit" dimension of their reading habits were at the highest level, their attitudes towards the "love" dimension were at a low level compared to the other dimensions. It has been determined that the attitude levels towards reading habits are generally at a "high" level. In addition, as a result of the analysis, it was determined that there were significant differences according to students 'reading habits and gender, grade levels, parents' education status, library usage, and pre-school education status. When the results of the study are evaluated as a whole, in order for reading to become a culture in children, it is necessary to have a high level of attitudes towards the dimension of love and desire in reading habits. The process in the denominator of reading habits in which teachers, administrators and parents are stakeholders; It must be emotion-based as well as progmatic and pragmatic. For this purpose, it should not be overlooked that parents and teachers have great responsibilities and that the child's family environment, affected persons, exposure to books and library are among the important variables of the reading habits process.

- Abstract
The aim of this study is analysing the metaphors developed in regard to the book concepts of 4th and 8th grades of primary and secondary schools students. In this study, phenomenology model, one of the qualitative research methods was used. In this study, activity papers of 245 girls and 270 boys were used, and it was 515 in total. Analysis of documents of the metaphors developed in regard to the book concepts of students was made by content analysis method. Analysis of data obtained was consist of transferred to electronic and extracting of documents, classification of metaphors and their reasons, the development of conceptual categories, reliability and validity studies and quantitative data analysis. Students developed 185 metaphors. Although there was not much difference between the number of participating studentsin the study, 4th grade students developed more metaphors than 8th grade students. When it was analysed the metaphors developed in regard to the book concepts, it was showed that 21 of 185 metaphors had the same expression. Similar metaphors were the most repeated metaphors. 185 metaphors were created from the eight conceptual categories; the book as a source of information (45), the book as an object (43), the book as description (26),the book as nature (20),the book as a person (18), the book as a place (14), the book as an action (13) and the book as acartoon hero (6). Reading has an undeniable importance in human life. The reading habits of teachers who educate future generations are extremely important in their education as weel as in their professional lives. In this study, we aimed to determine preservice teachers' reading habits, leisure time activities and reading motivations. In this context, reading was taken in a broader sense that includes reading of new technological materials and environments besides traditional materials. According to the results of the research preservice teachers could be classified as -genrally-aliteratetype reader and they don't have the habit of using libraries. Students read technological tools and environments every day, while the usage of books and traditional reading materials is relatively small. Some suggestions proposed at the end; such as, the technological progress to be taken into consideration while developing the habit of reading and reading traditional materials should be handled with technology together not as contestant. The aim of this study is determination of level and characteristics of students reading habits in Department of Persian Language and Literature of Tabriz University of Iran. This Research includes 64 students that they studied at last year in Department of Persian Language and Literature of Tabriz University of Iran. According to the results obtained from investigation of answersheets in 2011, mostly "middle-level readers" are students who were reading books that were related to their educational courses, preferring qualitative literary books that mostly were borrowed from the library and they were studying in first opportunity. Studied sections had moderate effect on reading habits. Students often used the university library's books for research purposes. Reading habits of online journalism growing rapidly in recent years and traditional journalism were compared in this study by addressing to questions of "Does online journalism will take over the leadership of traditional journalism? What kind of Journalism do young generations prefer?" Sample constituted 240 students at Akdeniz University. Students' newspaper reading habits were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results revealed that university students often considered online journalism and traditional journalism individually and they didn't prefer one to the other. They believed that online journalism cannot replace traditional journalism, no matter how much it develops. Those who preferred online journalism indicated that being more visual, up-dated and freedom were the key factors to prefer. Significant relationship was found between families' income level and traditional newspaper reading rate, but families' income was not correlated with online newspaper reading rate. This research is providing an opportunity to review of reading habits for online journalism and traditional journalism comparatively and we believe that this research will assist further ones. The purpose of the present study is to determine the level of reading habits of students attending the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Science and Letters at Celal Bayar University in Manisa and to discuss the obtained results according to their demographic features. The sampling of the study consists of 447 students from these two faculties. They completed an 18 items questionnaire. The data was analyzed using an arithmetic mean, Chi-square and percentages. The present study is an investigation of the reading habits of the fourth/final year students at the Faculty of Education, Uludag University. The study employs the method of scanning through utilizing a questionnaire based on the native and foreign language reading habits of a total of 228 teacher candidates enrolled in either one of the English, French, and German Foreign Language Teaching Department. The questionnaire administered, originally designed by Shen (2006), "the student weekly reading habit questionnaire," was slightly adapted and translated by the researchers from English to Turkish. Findings of the research display that while the type of reading source shows distinctive results, the teacher candidates based on their foreign language divisions also vary in their habits of reading. This study aims to evaluate the effects of 100 Essential Reading Application which was put into effect by the Ministry of National Education of the 59th Government in 2005 on students' reading habits. In addition, it tries to find out the effect of libraries on this application in relation to the views of primary Turkish teachers. A questionnaire was conducted to 141 teachers working in 54 primary schools in county of Çankaya, Mamak and Yenimahalle in Ankara. The results show that the application is not very successful with respect to the main elements of the study. The findings of the study also reveal the teachers' view about the application. According to them, the application is not 'very convenient' and it is not proper to make 100 Essential Reading obligatory for students because this obligation causes them to dislike the books in the list. In addition, teachers think that students do not read 100 Essential Reading willingly and tastefully and school libraries and classroom libraries do not function effectively in this application.
