Introduction: Many studies conducted so far have shown that sleep has a great impact on physical and psychological health. In parenting, on the other hand, the sleep quality of the person deteriorates and problems such as depression and eating disorders may occur. In this study, it was aimed to shed light on the effects on the psychological and physical health of parents by examining the relationship between sleep quality and eating attitude and anxiety-depression of parents who have babies aged 0-24 months. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted prospectively on 260 parents who had babies aged 0-24 months, who applied to the Pediatrics Polyclinic of Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Medical Faculty Hospital between August-November 2019. A questionnaire including sociodemographic characteristics, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PUKI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD), Eating Attitude Scale (EAS) were filled in by face-to-face interview method. Statistical analysis R 3.5.1. program and statistical significance level was accepted as p<0.05. Results: The mean PUKI score was significantly higher in women than in men (p<0.001). As the child's waking frequency increases, both the parent's PUKI score (p<0.001) and the frequency of poor sleep quality increase significantly (p=0.002). The frequency of poor sleep quality was significantly more common in women (69.3%) than men (46.3%) (p=0.002). There is a moderately positive correlation between the total PUKI score and the HAD depression score (r=0.41, p<0.001), and a strongly significant positive correlation between the total PUKI score and the HAD anxiety score (r=0.50, p<0.001). There is a strong and significant positive correlation between HAD depression and HAD anxiety score (r=0.64, p<0.001). There was a weak and positive correlation between HAD depression score and total EAS score (r=0.19, p=0.010). There is also a moderately significant positive correlation between HAD anxiety score and total EAS score (r=0.27, p<0.001). Conclusion: It should not be forgotten by every healthcare professional that not only mothers but also fathers are affected by the problems experienced in the postpartum period, and that parents should be followed up as well as the baby in the follow-up and management of this process in health services after birth. Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the clinical effects of levofloxacin (LEVO) and moxifloxacin (MOXI) prophylaxis during the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Methods: This study had a prospective observational design and included AML patients who were scheduled for standard remission-induction (RI) or consolidation (C) chemotherapy. Prophylactic LEVO or MOXI was started at a ratio of 1:1 when neutropenia developed, and two groups were created. The primary endpoint was the frequency of febrile neutropenia (FN) and the time to FN. Results: 120 patients (60 patients in each group) were enrolled in the study. The frequency of FN tended to be higher in the LEVO group but was statistically insignificant (82.1% vs. 75.5%; p=0.702). The time to FN was 10.8±5.7 days and 10.1±5.7 days in the LEVO and MOXI groups, respectively (p=0.393). Microorganisms were izolated in 50.8% of patients who developed FN. The documented infection and bacteremia rate tended to be higher in the MOXI group (71.1% vs. 56.6%; p=0.331 and 87.5% vs. 80.5%; p=0.906). The rates of quinolone resistance were 69.2% and 75% in the LEVO and MOXI groups, respectively (p=0.451). The frequency of FN was higher during the RI phase than the C phase (89.1% vs. 70%; p=0.010). The frequency of documented infection was higher during the C phase than during the RI phase (77.1% vs. 49.1%; p=0.008). Conclusion: This study showed that prophylactic MOXI and LEVO have similar efficacy in AML patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This study aimed to determine the 28-day hospital admission incidence and risk factors related to the hospitalization of COVID-19 patients who were followed as outpatients in a university hospital. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was designed in which the sociodemographic characteristics, symptoms on the first visit, presence of comorbidities, and viral load predictor cycle threshold (Ct) value were defined as independent variables and hospital admission in the first 28 days after the first visit was defined as dependent variable. Factors related to hospital admission were evaluated with univariate and multivariate analyses. Cox regression analysis was used for multivariate analyses, and the effect size was determined with a hazard ratio (HR). Statistical significance was defined as p<0.05. Results: 368 patients were included in this study. The median (25-75th percentile) age was 36 (28-45) years, and 46.1% of the patients were female. Sixty-five patients (17.7%) were hospitalized in the first 28 days. When age ≤29 referenced, age≥50 (HR=4.1, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.7-9.6), 40-49 (HR=3.0, 95% CI=1.3-6.6) and 30-39 (HR=1.6, 95% CI=0.6-3.6), fever or chills, (HR=2.3, 95% CI=1.3-4.1), dyspnea (HR=2.0, 95% CI=1.1-3.4), fatigue (HR=1.9, 95% CI=1.0-3.5), vomiting (HR=3.0, 95% CI=1.5-5.8), and sore throat (HR=0.4, 95% CI=0.2-0.8) were defined as independent risk factors according to multivariable analysis. Hypertension was the only comorbidity independently predicting hospital admission (HR=2.2, 95% CI=1.0-4.4). Conclusion: Advanced age, systemic and lower respiratory tract infection signs, and hypertension independently increased the 28-day hospital admission. The presence of a sore throat was not a factor for hospital admission. A lower risk of hospital admission in patients with sore throats may indicate that the patient will have a mild upper respiratory tract infection and will not progress to severe disease. Due to missing data, this study could not fully evaluate the hospital admission risk factors. Studies that include clinical, laboratory, and radiological findings are needed to generate a more accurate model predicting hospital admission risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The consensus report on the management of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) was first published in 2014 by the Viral Hepatitis Study Group of the Turkish Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. The need for updating has arisen due to reestablished stages of the infection course, changes in treatment indications, new biomarkers used in diagnosis and follow-up, and new biomarkers that are not yet in daily use. Therefore, we prepared a new consensus report by reviewing the current literature and international evidence-based guidelines. We hope the updated consensus report will be a valuable resource for CHB, which is still an essential problem in our country. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: It has been shown that the incidence of VAP decreases with compliance with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) precautionary bundles. However, the effect of these bundles on the incidence of ventilatorrelated events (VIO) is still controversial. The aim of this study is to investigate the incidence of VIO and compliance with the VAP prevention bundle in a certain period in the intensive care units (ICU) of a training and research hospital. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective observational case-control study investigating the incidence of VIO and compliance with VAP prevention bundles between April and June 2019 in ICUs of a tertiary education and research hospital. VAP prevention bundle created; The incidence of VIO was determined according to the 2013 United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) surveillance criteria. The effects of patient characteristics and distribution of patients in ICUs on the development of VIO were investigated. Results: The study was completed with 98 patients. It was determined that the rate of compliance with VAP prevention bundles varied between 65% and 85% among ICUs. It has been shown with other important risk factors that every 10% decrease in compliance with the VAP prevention bundle increases the risk of developing VIO. Conclusions: According to the 2013 CDC criteria, the incidence of VIO in the ICUs of our hospital is 20.4%. The risk of developing VIO increases with low compliance with the VAP prevention bundle, patient characteristics, and many factors arising from ICU treatments. Differences in ICUs in terms of compliance with VIP measure bundles show the necessity of training activities on the subject. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Thrombosed external hemorrhoids (TEH) and anal fissure are benign anorectal diseases that seriously impair the quality of life during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The actual incidence of these lesions in the population and the relationship between their progression and pregnancy are not well known. The aim of our study is to determine the incidence of TEH and anal fissure that develop from the last trimester of pregnancy to the first postpartum month and to reveal the relationship between this condition and the weight gained during pregnancy, newborn weight and the duration of the second phase of labor. Materials and Methods: Among the pregnant patients who applied to the gynecology and general surgery outpatient clinic between July 25, 2021 and October 25, 2021, patients who had TEH and anal fissure in the third trimester and the first postpartum month and whose records were complete were followed prospectively and analyzed retrospectively. Weight gain of patients in the third trimester was calculated as a percentage. All third trimester pregnant patients were examined at least three times by an obstetrician or general surgeon while they were asymptomatic and in the first postpartum month. Patients with a previous history of surgery due to hemorrhoidal disease were not included in the study. Results: In patients developing TEH; Weight gain during pregnancy, baby birth weight, and prolongation of the second phase of labor were determined as risk factors (p=0.003, p<0.001, p<0.001, p<0.001, respectively). Among the risk factors for anal fissure, weight gain during pregnancy, baby birth weight, and prolongation of the second phase of labor were determined (p=0.003, p<0.001, p<0.001, p<0.001, respectively). It was observed that the first birth being a normal spontaneous vaginal birth and being overweight before pregnancy did not cause an increase in the frequency of TEH and anal fissure. Conclusions: Weight gain during pregnancy, baby birth weight and prolongation of the second phase of labor can be considered as risk factors for the development of Anorectal diseases such as TEH and anal fissure. Objective: Pregnancy causes changes in the duration and quality of sleep. Insomnia, insufficient sleep time, and symptoms associated with restless legs syndrome/Willis-Ekbom disease (RLS/WED) are frequently described during pregnancy. We aimed to evaluate the deterioration in sleep quality during pregnancy according to trimesters and to examine the effect of RLS/WEH and its correlation with clinical and biochemical markers. Materials and Methods: Hundred pregnant women were included in the study prospectively and consecutively. Pregnant women were evaluated to determine their clinical characteristics, including demographic data, habits, and medical backgrounds by using a questionnaire. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), disease duration, severity, triggering factors, and family history for RLS/WEH were recorded. Complete blood count, fasting blood glucose, kidney function tests, ferritin, iron and iron binding capacity were also analyzed. Results: The mean age was 28.8±6.0 years. PSQI values were significantly higher in the third trimester (p=0.044), and ESS values were similar between trimesters (p=0.524). RLS/WEH was detected in 34% of the pregnant women; there was no difference between trimesters (p=0.188). The PSQI score was significantly higher in RLS/WEH patients (p=0.013). There was no significant difference in clinical and biochemical parameters between pregnant women with and without subjective poor sleep quality at night (PSQI >5 points). Conclusion: It is shown that night sleep quality is deteriorated in pregnant women, especially in the last trimester. The fact that the frequency of RLS/WEH is not different in pregnant women with poor sleep quality suggests the existence of other factors underlying poor sleep quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The aim of this study is to investigate the knowledge and attitudes of hypertension patients in Şanliurfa regarding the use of traditional complementary medicine (TCM) methods. Materials and Methods: This prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted with 258 hypertension patients receiving service from family health centers in Şanlıurfa province between July and December 2021. A questionnaire consisting of 25 questions was developed by the researchers about the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants and their knowledge and attitudes about the use of TCM methods such as phytotherapy, mesotherapy, acupuncture, hypnosis, cupping, music therapy, larva, apitherapy, osteopathy, which are included in the GETAT regulation in Turkey, was administered face-to-face. In addition, the 13-item "Attitude Scale for Using Complementary Therapies" was used. Results: Of the participants, 55.4% (n=143) were female, 44.6% (n=115) were male, and 32.9% (n=85) were aged 60 years and over. 82 participants (31.8%) had hypertension for 10-19 years. 79.8% (n=206) of the participants were using TCM methods for the treatment of hypertension, and the most preferred TCM method was phytotherapy with a rate of 73.6% (n=190). The majority of the participants (65.1%, n=168) stated that they did not know about the situations in which TCM methods should not be used. Conclusions: It was observed that the majority of the participants with hypertension disease preferred TCM methods for treatments, and more than half of them were not aware of the situations in which these methods should not be used. In order for patients to benefit from TCM methods in the most correct way and to prevent possible harm that may arise from misuse, they need information and counseling from reliable sources, especially family physicians, who are the primary caregivers. INFORMATION technology , *STATISTICAL sampling , *ORGANIZATIONAL performance , *PANEL analysis , *LONGITUDINAL method - Abstract
The aim of the research is to determine the relationship between Information Technology Competency (ITC) and Business Performance (BP) within the framework of Resource Based Approach (RBA). ITC is conceptualized as strategically valued human-oriented capabilities that are applied to transform organizational resources into more valuable outputs. Due to the lack of an accepted conceptualization in IT and the multidimensional nature of ITC and BP, different results have been obtained in the studies on the relationship between IT investments and BP within the framework of ITC, the findings have been insufficient, generalizations have not been made, and there has been little consensus. In addition to these, it has been determined that there is no study on the relationship between ITC and BP in the domestic literature. For this reason, the relationship between ITC and BP was examined on all enterprises in the top 1000 enterprises in Turkey. Research data were collected by questionnaire method. Stratified systematic random sampling method was used. All 274 businesses operating in 25 different sectors were included in the study as a sample. SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs were used in data analysis. The ITC scale, which includes the dimensions of IT Objects, IT Knowledge and IT Operations, developed by Tippins and Sohi (2003) was used in the research. In the findings obtained from the research sample, it was determined that there was no statistically positive relationship between ITC and BP (p<0.05), and that ITC did not have a positive effect on BP (p<0.05). Based on the findings obtained in the study, suggestions were made to researchers who will study the relationship between ITC and BP in the future. In this context, it has been suggested that the data to be obtained for the research should be obtained from enterprises in one industry area, the use of random sampling method and longitudinal data, the weighting of the scale items in the literature for market share in the determination of BP, and the research of BP results over a period of more than three years. Objective: The primary aim of the study was to analyze the changes in time in HIV care and management and virologic success rates. The secondary aims were to analyze the epidemiological features, clinical and laboratory findings, and factors affecting survival. Methods: HIV-infected individuals aged ≥ 18 years presenting to our clinic between January 1996 and December 2015 were included. Data were collected retrospectively from medical records, and two decades (1996-2005 and 2006-2015) were analyzed. Results: Overall, 80% were male; the median age (min; max) was 36.43 (17; 77) years. Patients with stage 3 disease were significantly higher in the first decade compared to the second decade (p=0.00). The median (min; max) CD4+ T lymphocyte count at baseline was 160 (3; 650) and 355 (0; 1800) cells/mm3 in the first and second decades, respectively (p=0.00). The treatment initiation rate was 94.2%; virologic suppression rates at six months of treatment and throughout the total follow-up time were 70.1% and 78.1%, respectively. The difference between the two decades in virologic suppression was significant (p=0.004). AIDS-defining disease developed in 12.9% (52.6% in the first and 11% in the second decade) (p=0.01). The adverse event rate was 60.8%; hyperlipidemia was the most common (60.2%). The death rate was 6.5% and lymphoma (14.3%) and tuberculosis (10.9%) were the most common causes of death. The estimated survival time was 272 months (95% confidence interval 225-320). The inability to achieve virologic suppression, an AIDS-defining disease, and a baseline CD4+ T lymphocyte count <200 cells/mm³ was inversely correlated with survival time. Conclusion: Significant improvements in HIV care and management were recorded in time in our cohort in line with the improvements in global HIV care. Treatment and viral suppression rates were above the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS -- UNAIDS 90-90-90 target in the second decade. This may be attributed to the recent developments in antiretroviral treatment and the competence of the HIV team in the Aegean University Medical Faculty Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Department. Objective: This study included participants from Hacettepe University 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students of Medical School and 4th and 5th-grade students of Dental School; and aimed to evaluate the general health status, COVID-19 history, vaccination status, and SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels of the participants to support their physical and social health, during the pandemic period. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted with an integrated, matched, nested case-control study. Sociodemographic characteristics, life habits, COVID-19 history, vaccination status, compliance with mask-distance-hygiene rules, and risks (if any) for COVID-19 were inquired via online questionnaires. Physical examinations, complete blood count, biochemistry tests, and anti-SARS-CoV-2 anti-spike antibody tests were conducted for all consenting participants. All analyses were established using depersonalized data. Results: Of the 778 participants completing the baseline visit in June-July 2021, the percentages of those vaccinated with at least one, two, and three/more doses of COVID-19 vaccine were 99.1%, 98.0%, and 11.7%, respectively; one had four doses. The median (minimum-maximum) time since the last vaccination was 134 (34-166) days for those vaccinated with two doses [CoronaVac (Sinovac Life Sciences, Beijing, China)] and 25 (14-56) days for those vaccinated with three doses [two doses of CoronaVac and a last dose of Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA vaccine (Comirnaty®). The third dose was applied at a median of 164 (151-202) days after the second dose, and all were heterologous in type. The median (minimum-maximum) antibody level for the overall group was 53.55(0-5680) BAU/mL: 47.19 BAU/mL in those who received two doses, with a more than 100 times increase after a third dose (4943.64 BAU/mL). Of the 522 participants followed up to October 1, 2021, 6 PCR-positive symptomatic participants were diagnosed with COVID-19: the incidence rate was 4/1000 person-months. Conclusion: A 100-fold neutralizing antibody level following the third dose demonstrated the importance of a booster dose. Given the time lag between doses, antibody measurements of BioNTech recipients should be repeated in the upcoming months. Booster selection should involve antibody level, variant sensitivity of the vaccine, and individual characteristics of the recipient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Despite advances in obstetric care, the prematurity rate is increasing all over the world with the use of assisted reproductive techniques. However, the survival rates of these babies have increased thanks to the developments in neonatal and perinatal care. The specific problems and complications seen in early prematurity, determine the long-term neurodevelopmental outcome. One of the most important determinants of neurodevelopmental outcome is intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). In this study, risk factors that could cause IVH and severe IVH were investigated in premature infants. Materials and Methods: In this study, inpatient files in the neonatal intensive care unit of our hospital in a 10-year period were analyzed retrospectively. As the patient group, 40 patients with a gestational age below 37 weeks and diagnosed with IVH; the control group was selected from patients who were hospitalized on similar dates, did not have IVH, and whose body weight and gestational age were similar to the IVH group. Results: Prolonged mechanical ventilation, hypoxemia, hypercarbia and recurrent hypercarbia attacks, hypotension, recurrent surfactant need, erythrocyte transfusion, bicarbonate therapy, use of volume expander and pregnancy with assisted reproductive techniques were found to be risk factors for IVH. Mortality rate was significantly higher in IVH group and severe IVH (stage III-IV bleeding) group compared to the control group. In IVH group, periventricular leukomalacia was observed in 4 patients and hydrocephalus in 10 patients. Conclusion: IVH is a complication of prematurity that increases long-term morbidity and mortality. Use of blood transfusions, volume expanders and bicarbonate therapy which are identified as risk factors in this study should be minimized in neonatal intensive care. Since most important risk factor is prematurity, prevention of preterm birth should be main objective of medical care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Considering the classical vaccine development processes, COVID-19 vaccines were developed in a concise period. However, safety cannot be compromised for the rapid development of vaccines. Therefore, we aimed to investigate and compare the incidence of acute adverse events between vaccine doses and vaccine types in patients who were previously diagnosed with COVID-19 and those who were not. Method: The study was conducted prospectively between July 1, 2021, and October 31, 2021. Participants who were vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine and the Sinovac inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CoronaVac) were recruited in the cohort study. The cohort was divided into two vaccine categories and sub-branches: those with COVID-19 in each vaccine category and those without. Eight days after the vaccination, all participants in the cohort were provided with an assessment questionnaire regarding the adverse events they experienced. Results: A total of 1607 vaccine doses were followed in the study, 18.7% (n=301) of which were the inactivated SARS- CoV-2 vaccine and 81.3% (n=1306) were the BNT162b2 vaccine. According to the statistics, the risk of developing adverse events with the BNT162b2 vaccine was shown to be 5.8 times higher than the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (OR: 5.83; 95% CI: 4.34-7.84). In addition, the risk of suffering such adverse events was 1.6 times higher in patients who were previously diagnosed with COVID-19 (OR: 1.61; 95% CI: 1.29-2.00) as opposed to patients who were not. Conclusion: Based on the results, we can conclude that acute adverse events were more prevalent after vaccination with the BNT162b2 vaccine than the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Furthermore, compared to those who did not have COVID-19, it was evident that patients who were previously diagnosed with COVID-19 were prone to experience mild, temporary, and manageable adverse events. Objectives: The probability of detecting viral and atypical agents in pneumonia patients has increased with the molecular methods used in recent years. We aimed to investigate pneumonia pathogens in endotracheal aspiration samples (ETA) of patients with severe community-acquired (CAP), hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP), and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (m-PCR) and culture method. Methods: A prospective study was performed between December 2019 and October 2020. Patients 18 years and older with pneumonia followed in ICU on the mechanical ventilator were included. COVID-19 patients were excluded. Patients were grouped as CAP, HAP, and VAP. Two ETA samples were obtained from patients within 48 hours of the pneumonia diagnosis. Respiratory pathogens were investigated in samples by viral-bacterial m-PCR and bacterial culture methods. Results: 74 patients were included in the study. m-PCR of ETA samples achieved pathogen detection in 87.8% of patients compared with 58.1% with culture methods. The most common pathogen detected by m-PCR was Streptococcus pneumoniae in both CAP and HAP patients and Klebsiella spp. in VAP patients. The most common pathogen isolated by culture was Staphylococcus aureus in both CAP and HAP patients and Klebsiella spp. in VAP patients. Atypical pneumonia pathogens were positive for 14.9% of the patients. Atypical pathogens were recovered from 28.5% of CAP patients and 23.1% of HAP patients. Viruses constituted all of the atypical pathogens recovered from HAP patients. No atypical pathogen was found in VAP patients. Conclusion: In this study, S. pneumoniae was the most common pathogen detected with m-PCR, and S. aureus and Klebsiella spp. were the most common pathogens detected with culture. Determination of microbial etiology of lower respiratory tract samples by molecular methods for diagnosing severe CAP and HAP may be beneficial in terms of treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ALTRUISM , *PEARSON correlation (Statistics) , *ONE-way analysis of variance , *LONGITUDINAL method , *SCHOOL year , *STATISTICAL sampling , *EMPATHY - Abstract
This study aims to investigate the predictive effect of spirituality and empathy levels of students studying in faculties of theology on their altruism attitudes. In addition, it was investigated whether there was a relationship between the scale scores of the participants and whether the scale scores differed according to some socio-demographic variables. It is thought that it is valuable to know the altruism levels of the students studying in faculties that train staff for professions that are based on helping people and where leadership and exemplary are expected. In the theoretical framework of the research, the relationship between the concepts has been tried to be revealed. This research is a descriptive study structured with the relational survey model, one of the general survey models of quantitative research. The study sample was 343, 77.8% (n=267) female and 22.2% (76) male, selected by random sampling among the students studying at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences of Kütahya Dumlupınar University in the 2021-2022 academic year and voluntarily participated in the research. It consists of students 16.3% (n=56) of the participants were in the preparatory class, 25.4% (n=87) were in the first year, 18.1% (n=62) were in the sophomore year, 16.9% (n=58) were third year students and 23.3% (n=80) were fourth-year students. The data collected using the Altruism Scale, the Spirituality Scale, and the Toronto Empathy Scale were analyzed using the SPSS 25 program. The level of significance in the analysis was determined as 0.05. In the analysis of the data, the frequency, percentage, average, etc., of the students who make up the research group. Descriptive statistics, Independent Samples t-Test was used to determine the differences in comparisons between variables with two groups, and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used for comparisons between variables with more than two groups. Pearson Correlation analysis was used to determine whether there is a linear relationship between the scale scores and, if so, the degree and direction of this relationship. Finally, the Multiple Linear Regression Test was used to determine the predictive power of the independent variables on the dependent variable according to the participants' scores on the scales. According to the analysis results, a positive and moderately significant relationship was found between the altruism and spirituality scores of the participants. The variance explained by the altruism and spirituality variables on each other is 16.72%. A positive and moderately significant relationship was found between altruism and empathy scores. The variance explained by the altruism and empathy variables on each other is 12.46%. According to the results of the analysis performed to determine the effect of spirituality and empathy on the altruism levels of the participants, the adjusted R² value was calculated as 0.200. It has been determined that the independent variables, spirituality, and empathy, can explain 20% of the changes in altruism, which is the dependent variable; that is, the variables of spirituality and empathy have a positive and significant effect on altruism. The results obtained in this research can be developed with the findings of new studies in which longitudinal and experimental research models are preferred that reveal cause-effect relationships. Introduction: Our aim in this study is to evaluate the data of native and transplant kidney biopsies in our tertiary pediatric nephrology center in terms of demographics and clinico-pathology, to determine biopsy indications and to evaluate the compatibility of indication and histopathological diagnosis. Materials and Methods: In our study, the files and biopsy results (a total of 134 biopsy results) of 126 pediatric patients aged 1-17 years who were followed up in our Pediatric Nephrology clinic and underwent percutaneous kidney biopsy between 2011 and 2021 were evaluated retrospectively. All patients' age, gender, biopsy adequacy, compliance with the indication and histopathological diagnosis, and follow-up status were recorded. Results: Of 126 patients who underwent kidney biopsy, 62 (49.2%) were male; 64 (50.8%) were girls; mean age was 9.5±4.1 years. The most common biopsy indication was nephrotic syndrome (32.5%). Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) was the most common histopathological diagnosis (23%). The concordance between clinical preliminary diagnosis and histopathological diagnosis was as high as 82.6%. Conclusion: The high rate of compatibility between the histopathological diagnosis and our preliminary diagnoses should not question the necessity of pathological evaluation, and even all kinds of examinations should be used to reach the most accurate diagnosis with the contribution of genetic studies. Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the lower extremity muscle strength of type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM) patients with and without polyneuropathy (PNP) using isokinetic methods and to determine the effect of possible losses of muscle strength on patients' daily lives and quality of life. Materials and Methods: 60 patients with type 2 DM patients and 30 healthy individuals aged 40-70 years were included in this prospective controlled study. Of the 30 DM patients with PNP were defined as Group 1, 30 DM patients without PNP as Group 2 and 30 healthy individuals were defined as Group 3. Short Form-36 (SF 36) was used to evaluate the quality of life for all participants. Stair climb test (SCT) and timed up and go test (TUG) were performed for functional evaluation. The muscle strength of all participants was measured with the aid of a Biodex isokinetic device. Results: SF-36 parameters measuring quality of life and muscle strength were significantly lower in DM patients compared to the control group. Also, TUG and SCT tests of patients with DM were significantly longer than the control group. There was no significant difference between DM groups with and without PNP in terms of muscle strength, SF-36 parameters, TUG and SCT tests. Conclusions: This study showed that DM affects the quality of life of patients by causing a decrease in muscle strength independent from the presence of polyneuropathy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHEMICAL cleaning , *PSYCHOEDUCATION , *CLEANING compounds , *HOME environment , *LONGITUDINAL method , *PSYCHOACOUSTICS , *SELF-efficacy - Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of a psychoeducation about the harmful effects of chemicals used in cleaning on the frequency of using chemicals, the stages of change regarding the intention to reduce the amount of using chemicals, and perception of self-efficacy. The research is a longitudinal study which utilized weak experimental design. 44 women voluntarily participated in the study. Participants were provided with a psychoeducation about the harmful effects of chemical cleaning agents used in homes to the environment and human health. The stages of change and selfefficacy of the participants before, after and 3 months after the psychoeducation were evaluated. At the same time, the frequency of using chemical cleaning materials, their thoughts on chemicals and the way of using them were evaluated before the psychoeducation and this evaluation was repeated 3 months later. The change in the self-efficacy perceptions of the participants was evaluated with the Friedman test and the change in the frequency of using cleaning agents with the Marginal homogeneity test. When the analysis results were examined, it was found that the self-efficacy perceptions of the participants increased significantly right after the psychoeducation (p <0.05), after three months the effect diminished but still lasts compared to pre-pschoeducation and there was a significant decrease in the usage frequency of chemical cleaning materials (p <0.05). It is observed that after the psychoeducation the number of people in the preparation stage and in the follow-up period the number of people in the movement stage of the deacreasing the use of chemicals increased. Conclusion: Psychoeducation has contributed to positively change the intention and behavior of people in reducing the chemicals they use at home and increased people's self-efficacy perceptions. Objective: Polysomnography (PSG) is a standard test used in the diagnosis of sleep-related breathing disorders. However, carbon dioxide monitoring is not routinely implemented in adults. This study aimed to investigate the necessity of full-night carbon dioxide monitoring during PSG in patients with pulmonary disease. Materials and Methods: This retrospective cohort study enrolled adult patients with pulmonary disease and a control group who had PSG recordings and carbon dioxide monitoring for the last 3 years. Results: The study group included 36 individuals with asthma and 27 individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), whereas the control group included 52 individuals without any pulmonary diseases. The three groups were comparable in terms of age, gender and body mass index. Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome was most commonly observed in patients in the COPD group (p=0.003). However, no difference was observed between patients in the asthma and control groups. Partial carbon dioxide pressure during wakefulness, non-rapid eye movement and rapid eye movement sleep were not significantly different among the three groups. In the control group, no patient had sleep-related hypoxemia and/or hypoventilation. Two patients with asthma (5.5%) and one patient with COPD (3.7%) had sleep-related hypoxemia, while one patient with COPD had sleeprelated hypoventilation (3.7%). Conclusion: In this study, sleep-related hypoventilation was not detected in any patient with asthma and in controls, while one patient with COPD was diagnosed with sleep-related hypoventilation upon routine carbon dioxide monitoring. Defining some criteria using additional correlations with respiratory parameters would help monitor carbon dioxide level in a selected subgroup of patients with COPD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: We aimed to investigate the use of serum prolidase activity as a treatment and follow-up parameter by following the oxidative and nonoxidative status of serum prolidase activity during the treatment process of patients with developmental hip dysplasia (DDH). Materials and Methods: This prospective study includes two groups of 30 babies with DDH between 0-6 months and 30 healthy babies between 0-6 months. Blood samples were taken 3 times from the babies in the patient group and once from the babies in the control group. Total antioxidant stress (TAS), total oxidative stress (TOS), oxidative stress index (OSI) and prolidase enzyme activity were measured in these blood samples. The results were compared each others. Results: TOS, OSI and serum prolidase levels were found to be significantly higher in the babies in the patient group compared to the control group. TAS level was found to be lower than the control group. After 6 weeks of pavilic harness treatment applied to the patients group, an improvement was observed in the TAS, TOS, OSI and serum prolidase levels of the patients group, Statistically, they got closer each other. Conclusion: It was concluded that increased TOS and OSI levels cause oxidative stress in the context of this disease and increased prolidase activity causes increased collagen metabolism as seen in degenerative diseases. We can say that serum prolidase activity and oxidative-nonoxidative status parameters can be helpful tools in the evaluation of DDH severity and follow-up of treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The aim of this study is to assess the correlation between the level of disc herniation and pelvic and lumbar vertebral incidences in patients operated for lumbar disc herniation. Material and Method: This retrospective study included those patients whose file records were analyzed. The demographic data and clinical findings of 59 patients diagnosed with single level lumbar disc herniation and underwent unilateral microdiscectomy were recorded. In the analysis of the variables, SPSS 25.0 (IBM Corparation, Armonk, New York, United States) was used. Results: The patients involved 28 men and 31 women whose median age was found as 43.31±4.27 (38-54) years. With regard to location, it was determined that in 28 (47.5%) patients, the herniated discs were located on the right and in 31 patients (52.5%), they were located on the left. In terms of levels, in patients with herniated discs at level L5-S1, the median pelvic index and L4 index were found to be significantly lower than those of patients with herniated discs at levels L4-5 and L3-4 (p=0.002, p=0.001), whereas in patients with herniated discs at level L4-5, the median L5 incidence was found to be significantly high (p=0.001). Conclusion: In this study, the pelvic index and L4 and L5 indexes were found to be significantly low in patients with herniated discs at level L5-S1. It is considered that future prospective and multicentered studies with long-term follow-up are necessary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LONGITUDINAL method , *CRITICALLY ill , *ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY , *SCIENTIFIC observation - Abstract
Objective: This study aims to assess the agreement between the cardiac index (CI) measured by pressure recording analytical method (PRAM) and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) before and after the passive leg raise (PLR) maneuver. Methods: This is a prospective observational study in critically ill patients who were monitored with MostcareUp/PRAM (Vygon, Vytech, Padova, Italy). Cardiac index (CI) values and percent changes in CI values in response to PLR were recorded by TTE and PRAM. Results: Data of a total of 25 patients were collected. The median CI values that were calculated by TTE before and after PLR were 2.5 (1.2-4.7) L/min/m2 and 2.9 (1.4-5.6) L/min/m2, respectively. The median CI values that were calculated by PRAM before and after PLR were 2.5 (1.5-4.8) L/min/m2 and 2.6 (1.7-5.7) L/min/m2, respectively. There was significant correlations between the measured CI values both by TTE and PRAM before and after PLR (r=0.635, p=0.001 and r=0.610, p=0.001, respectively). The median percent changes in CI with TTE and PRAM were -0.13 (-0.7-0.4) and -0.11 (-0.5-0.5), respectively. Sixteen patients were determined as FR by TTE (64%) and 13 patients were determined as FR by PRAM (52%). The Kappa test showed moderate agreement between TTE and PRAM for predicting fluid responsiveness (k=0.595; p=0.002). The mean biases between the CI values measured by TTE and PRAM before and after PLR were 0.04±0.77 L/min/m2 and 0.22±0.88 L/min/m2, respectively. Conclusion: This study showed a significant correlation for CI values measured by both methods. For predicting fluid responsiveness there was agreement between the two methods after PLR.
