- Abstract
This article, written in Spanish, proposes to incorporate the subject "Anglophonism" into the curriculum of English as a Foreign Language (EILE) with a view to providing universities with an intercultural division. It provides a brief summary of John Dewey's philosophy with regard to anthropology, politics, and education. It explains the term "anglophonism," the study of the English language in a cultural context, and its relevance for EILE in setting up anglophone studies. Finally, emphasizes the importance of postcolonial English-speaking literature for providing students with thoughts on intercultural issues. (AS)

- Abstract
The use of English-language films as tools for teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) at the university level is examined. The perspective in this paper is that both strong communicative skills and cross-cultural understanding are crucial components of ESL instruction, thus authentic English-language films (i.e., those made for the entertainment of native English speakers and not for ESL didactic purposes) are ideal pedagogical tools to accomplish this dual goal. Three main themes are developed in the discussion: (1) the interconnection between language and culture; (2) use of anglophone films as a window on the popular culture of English-speaking societies; and (3) inclusion of film in ESL courses as a way of providing students with academic experiences that are both aesthetic and intellectual rather than purely cognitive. In addition to presenting a review of relevant literature, examples from ESL courses at the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana at Iztapalapa (Mexico) using film as an integral part of English language and cultural instruction are highlighted. 6. Modelo Crosscultural de Pasantias para Lideres de la Educacion: Cooperacion entre Estados Unidos y Venezuela (Designing an Effective School Administrator Internship Program: United States and Venezuela Cooperation).

A model was developed of an internship program designed to give valuable cross-cultural experience to school administrators in training at universities in the United States and Venezuela. A naturalistic approach was used to develop the model. Leading school administrators and educational leadership theorists in both countries were interviewed by using a standardized set of questions. Interview responses were analyzed and grouped by similar constructs. Similar needs and wants were corroborated in both groups. The resulting list of components of an effective internship model included the following: (1) understanding of leadership theories; (2) comprehension of school district daily operations; (3) development of a school administrators network; (4) evaluation of personnel and programs; (5) management of conflict; (6) development of problem solving skills in dealing with diversified populations; and (7) mentoring of junior administrators. Consequently the Universidad Pedagogica Experimental Libertador in Caracas, Venezuela, and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo are working to develop a collaborative project to provide such an internship opportunity. The target population will include building principals, central office administrators, and district superintendents. The 2-month summer program will be under the supervision of field professionals and educational leadership professors. The population of the United States is growing more culturally diverse each year, and this diversity is clearly evident among families with young children; however, individuals who work in early childhood programs are not as diverse as those they serve. Moreover, many early childhood professionals have little preparation for working with families from a wide range of cultures and linguistic backgrounds. Even among interculturally competent service providers and teachers, choosing materials to distribute to families is sometimes difficult. This Spanish-language Digest focuses on how to identify and select culturally and linguistically appropriate materials for parents and family members. The Digest suggests that service providers get to know their own culture, and the culture and people they serve. The Digest also discusses ways to determine the strengths and limitations of specific materials, assess translated materials, and adapt materials. (LPP)

This 10-lesson curriculum unit provides teachers with some basic tools to help Latino students improve their communication skills. Primary goals are to help students analyze how a person's belief system affects the communication process, and to develop and improve decision-making and communication skills. The following key components are included in each lesson: (1) a "Dicho," a Spanish saying or proverb that sets the tone of the lesson; (2) background and rationale; (3) teacher preparation; (4) time; (5) outline of activities; (6) procedure; (7) summary; (8) homework; and (9) student activity sheets. The following lessons are included: (1) "Communication as a Process"; (2) "Communication across Generations"; (3) Communication between Boys and Girls"; (4) "Culture and Communication"; (5) "The Values Auction," which examines how people's values affect the communication process; (6) "Communicating With Respect"; (7) "Listening with Respect"; (8) "Accepting and Expressing Feelings"; (9) "Thinking and Communicating"; and (10) "Final Circle," which discusses how to communicate and get along with someone who doesn't think the way you do. Spanish language is used throughout the curriculum in a way that reflects how Spanish is naturally incorporated into the daily lives of Hispanic Americans. The following materials are appended: (1) a historical and ethnic profile of Latinos or Hispanic ethnic groups in the United States; (2) demographic trends and family life issues concerning Latinos; (3) student workbook features; (4) a Spanish surnames list; (5) a Spanish word list; (6) a glossary of special terms; (7) parent participation sheets, in both Spanish and English; and (8) a list of 18 references. The separate 67-page "Student Workbook" matching with this curriculum unit has been combined here to form one document. The Transnational Spanish Language Project curriculum is a set of instructional materials designed to enhance intercultural business communication between North American and Spanish American cultures. The curriculum covers three areas: office procedures; banking; and import/export business. Lessons, all in Spanish, are intended for English-speakers with at least 2 years of Spanish language instruction. Microcomputer-based exercises are included. The instructional materials include: two introductory lessons; an eight-lesson unit on office procedures; a six-lesson unit on banking; a seven-lesson unit on exports and imports; four lessons using supplementary readings; an answer key; a guide to use of the related computer program (software not included); information on related literature, including an annotated bibliography; and a list of individuals and organizations. This research focus on the divergences in linguistic action patterns and the effect of intercultural communication through in conversations in lingua franca. The above in order to identify speech acts produced in the social interactions between members of different cultures, specifically Chinese and Colombian. Therefore, an analytical methodology was applied in relation to the dyadic conversation among a Chinese and a Colombian teacher who interacted in English. The results show the obstacles overcoming among both participants, who took into account cultural dimensions, as well as signs of gestural and body language to solve any difficulties presented by verbal communication. However, the lack of knowledge about linguistic rules in relation to the use of language and the cultural standards, such as stereotypes, social distances, besides the cultural iceberg could cause certain difficulties in the pragmatics of communication. Introduction. Leadership has an impact on the work culture of companies, this is the product of the communication flows that emerge within it. Objective. To compare the relationship between leadership and organizational culture of two international maquiladora companies, one located in Mexico and the other in South Korea. Materials and methods. A quantitative case study was made from 283 questionnaires. The variables of interest were organizational culture and leadership. Results. There is a positive link between leadership and the organizational culture of companies. Regarding the context of the company, the geographical location has a great influence, not only due to the physical environment that surrounds it, but also due to cultural, economic and political factors that affect its way of operation. Conclusion. The closer the leader is to his collaborators; the culture will be strengthened and there will be better labor synergy. Despite the fact that different leaderships prevail in the two companies studied, in none of the cases was an authoritarian or transforming leadership observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

La palabra mediación se emplea en muchos ámbitos. En el de la enseñanza de lenguas, conviene reivindicar y entender el matiz que aporta el término, más específico, de mediación lingüística. Como se argumenta a lo largo de este libro, no todas las actividades de mediación que se desglosan tras los tres focos de atención que proponen los documentos del Consejo de Europa (mediar textos, mediar conceptos, mediar la comunicación) son de mediación lingüística, porque esas actividades no siempre suponen la transformación o la gestión de los códigos lingüísticos que intervienen en la comunicación. Esta obra explora qué es la mediación lingüística y cómo se convierte en una competencia comunicativa específica del hablante. Se revisan los distintos tipos de mediación lingüística y se propone una extensa lista de actividades que permitirán trabajarla en el aula. Se muestran los elementos que han de intervenir en el proceso de mediación para que pueda evaluarse y cuáles son las estrategias que se activan en cada fase del proceso. Tras dar las pautas para diferenciar qué es una actividad de mediación lingüística y qué no lo es, se reflexiona sobre cómo el hecho de trabajar la mediación lingüística en el aula puede ayudar en el desarrollo de otras competencias comunicativas como la producción, la percepción o la interacción. Por último, se plantea un modelo objetivo de evaluación de la mediación lingüística que es fácilmente adaptable a distintos contextos académicos. El lector encontrará claves nuevas para una didáctica de la mediación lingüística en el aula, desde una perspectiva técnica, esencialmente práctica, y a partir de la voz crítica de los profesores de lengua.

La publicación del Volumen Complementario del MCER (2020) supone un cambio de paradigma en la enseñanza de lenguas. Se supera la tradicional división en destrezas y se presta mayor atención al uso y propósito social de la lengua, en línea con la realidad comunicativa actual, donde las culturas conviven y las personas se comunican haciendo uso de todo su acervo digital y plurilingüe. Este libro aborda el concepto de mediación y su relevancia en el aula de lenguas desde una perspectiva teórico-práctica. Así, se acerca a la definición y características de la competencia en mediación lingüística, además de a su importancia en el contexto actual a partir de la normativa europea en materia lingüística. De igual modo, revisa estudios recientes en torno a su desarrollo, alcance y repercusión en la enseñanza de lenguas en distintos niveles y contextos educativos. También se presentan una serie de metodologías y estrategias útiles en el ámbito del diseño de tareas de mediación. This research analyzes the acculturation stress created by migratory flows in the peoples of the city of Guayaquil. With a quantitative approach and with a descriptive exploratory scope, behavioral differences, affective, cognitive and procedural factors that produce inequality and imbalance in contact between the immigrant and the native are analyzed, starting from the concepts of perceived threat. The Acculturation Stress Scale in Native Americans (Carmen Ramírez et al., 2012) was used as the study instrument. The results showed the reliability and validity of the questionnaire in the Guayaquil context. The factors that cause the most stress are: competition for resources, preferential programs for migrants; as well as elements of group identity. The purpose of the work is the identification of the elements of intercultural communication through the stories about the experience of Living in Chile of eighth grade students from Antofagasta, Chile. The method is biographical-narrative based on oral reports of a school case study, semi-structured interviews and content analysis of eight stories of adolescent students between 13 and 14 years old of the eighth grade of the basic year. The results reflect the need for a communicative immersion period at school for effective intercultural communication interaction in the verbal and non-verbal dimension. It is concluded that, in the entry, permanence and graduation of students to education, the importance of the support of the speech therapy professional for mediation and immersion in intercultural communication at school. En la actualidad nos hallamos ante un amplio abanico de posibilidades mediáticas y narrativas, donde las comunidades convergen para construir nuevos escenarios de aprendizaje y creatividad. Un contexto en el que priman temáticas heterogéneas, convenciones, contenidos efímeros y plataformas que dan rienda suelta al contenido generado por el usuario. El auge de estos emplazamientos ha introducido en nuestra vida diaria modelos de interacción y prosumo de imágenes, vídeos, memes y emoticonos que van más allá de los límites conceptuales y funcionales de antaño. Y es que, en esta vorágine de contenidos, la cibercultura da muestra de un intercambio de intereses y una capacidad colectiva para construir nuevas identidades, compartir inquietudes y aprender en línea.

Hoy por hoy no existe en castellano ningún material de consulta sobre atención sanitaria con pacientes de diversas culturas, las cuales ya son una realidad en nuestra sociedad y en las consultas médicas de nuestro país. El presente volumen, pionero en este sentido, se inspira en guías existentes como fuentes de información para el personal sanitario, los mediadores interculturales y los intérpretes, y para la formación especializada de trabajadores sociales y otra figuras profesionales del ámbito social. Los contenidos atienden a aspectos esenciales de antropología médica e interacción comunicativa en la comunicación médico-paciente, y se basan en el conocimiento de las culturas sanitarias de diverso origen por parte del equipo de autores, a partir de sus estudios y el desarrollo de diversos proyectos de investigación, en los que se llevaron a cabo encuestas con personal sanitario, mediadores interculturales y pacientes de diversas culturas, para recopilar datos desde una perspectiva cualitativa. No sólo se enumeran los posibles comportamientos problemáticos, sino que se ofrecen una explicación cultural de los mismos que permite un tratamiento lo más coherente y fructífero posible. El volumen cuenta con ejemplos comentados de interacciones comunicativas médico-paciente, así como con una selección de referencias bibliográficas comentadas. Su intención es servir de guía didáctica, para fomentar la atención sanitaria transcultural.

La comunicación intercultural es una realidad inherente a la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras. Partiendo de una aproximación simbólica, dinámica y humana de la cultura, este libro analiza cómo se llevan a cabo los procesos de comunicación entre personas que reconocen sus identidades como diferentes. Desde un enfoque eminentemente pedagógico, opone los enfoques transculturales a los propiamente interculturales, y reflexiona sobre cómo se pueden trasladar estas perspectivas a la práctica docente. Asimismo, el autor analiza los principales modelos teóricos y aplicados de la Competencia Comunicativa Intercultural, así como las herramientas de medición más extendidas en este campo, para, finalmente, ofrecer a futuros investigadores un nuevo instrumento, la Escala de Recursos Interculturales (ERI).

The following article presents an analysis of the use of educational radio in intercultural education contexts and how, from its implementation, elements of media and information literacy are noticed, which facilitates and encourages the construction of adequate intercultural communication. The research has been carried out in Chile, specifically in rural schools in the communes of San Juan de la Costa and San Pablo, with the participation of students and teachers of basic and high school education, mostly of Mapuche huilliche origin, a native people of the south from that country. The methodology used has a qualitative approach, having as data collection strategies semi-structured interviews with key informants, participant observation in situ (both face-to-face and virtual) and virtual ethnography. The main results have shown that: Educational radio can generate training content to enhance the processes of cultural emancipation, generating, at the same time, spaces for reflection and critical thinking in students. Media and information literacy is pertinent as a pedagogical tool to mainstream the teaching and learning processes in the Chilean educational context, as it allows taking from the media, elements for the construction of democratic societies. And as communication intercultural, the ability of students to create and produce radio content from their own realities, which can be disseminated and put at the service of their cultures while promoting their ways of life. This article introduces the results of an experimental intercultural English class (IEC) using the flipped classroom methodology. thematic units were developed with the 5 E's instructional model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) based on the constructivist approach to learning. A mixed-method research approach collected data from 20 students at Atlántico University. the questionnaires used in the analysis of the 2 survey rounds rate Students' responses in relation to learning of contents, methodology of the class and autonomy. Results based on the second round led to four major conclusions: (i). there is satisfaction with the use of the Flipped Classroom strategy, in terms of time management and freedom to prepare classes. (ii). Practical activities are more engaging to work collaboratively. (iii) Teachers have a subtle presence which provides more opportunities for students to negotiate control and participation. (iv) Although autonomous learning is possible, teacher support is pivotal to increasing it. these findings are discussed within the framework of the didactical component of teaching and its implications for this public university. The purpose of this theoretical research is to analyze and explain the contribution of public relations in intercultural dialogue within social organizations. To do this we resorted to investigating the social conflicts occurred during 2020; as well as to describe how the use of communication tools, in particular intercultural dialogue, can promote understanding and empathy in the face of different social problems. The communicative management that a public relations professional must carry out through effective communication must aim at mutual understanding between government and citizens, highlighting the active participation of the community, emphasizing the active participation of the community and the value represented by the continuous debate between the citizens and their institutions. For public relations professionals, it is a challenge to carry out intercultural communication with the purpose of solving the serious problems of dialogue and lack of understanding, thus recognizing the importance of maintaining a strategic organizational communication, where the messages are bidirectional, generating thus greater interaction and, above all, the resolution of social conflicts. La educación intercultural es el gran reto de la sociedad del siglo XXI. El contenido de este libro está pensado para que la teoría y la práctica de la educación intercultural estén íntimamente ligadas, de tal manera que permita no sólo reflexionar sobre el tema sino también, y fundamentalmente, actuar. El libro aborda algunas consecuencias de la inmigración, referidas tanto al mercado de trabajo y la economía como a sus consecuencias en el aspecto más humano, entroncado con los derechos de ciudadanía, el racismo y sus diversas manifestaciones. Se argumenta cómo la educación intercultural constituye un medio fundamental para desarrollar valores democráticos. De la misma manera, se hace un somero análisis del concepto y los tipos de mediación, la figura del mediador y las circunstancias que han hecho surgir la necesidad de la mediación intercultural: qué significa y su conexión con el sistema educativo, incluyendo estrategias de mediación que han demostrado ser altamente eficaces, además de numerosos ejemplos muy didácticos y clarificadores y pautas concretas para fomentar el diálogo intercultural. La segunda parte del libro, la más práctica, se centra en las estrategias de trabajo colaborativo e incluye gran cantidad de ejemplos para construir grupo, fomentar los procesos de comunicación, analizar la realidad, detectar problemas y necesidades, plantear juntos posibles soluciones y evaluar que han sido refrendados por la experiencia.

The presence of the Other, (which in this document will be presented in capital letters due to the deliberate intention of giving it dignity and value of equality), is the axis of the literary review in which it is exposed from the field of communication, that there is not possibility of dialogue without an Other. The Other is not seen as the antagonist or as the enemy, but as the very reason for the communicative fact. Thus, the literature of Husserl, Buber, Gadamer, Freire, Prieto, Quintanilla, Theunissen, Panikkar, among others, is traversed to recover their references made about the Other and the qualities resulting from dialogue as an experience of encounter with otherness. The relational encounter with the Other that the communicative experience becomes effective is assumed from both an existential and a humanistic dimension, showing the difference between a dialectical dialogue, telegraphic or unidirectional, and the dialogical dialogue, as a space and environment conducive to construction and equitable exchange of senses. El objetivo prioritario de este ensayo es generar una sensibilidad sobre la importancia de esta nueva figura del ‘asesor cultural'en el panorama de la actividad empresarial española. Una actividad que ha sufrido un cambio considerable desde el momento en el que tanto las medianas como las grandes empresas españolas han tenido que salir al exterior, bien como consecuencia de la globalización, o bien como consecuencia de la crisis. En este contexto de proyectos, contratos, inversiones y negocios en el extranjero por parte de las empresas, la figura del ‘asesor cultural'adquiere una relevancia excepcional en la medida en la que propone y asesora sobre contratos, proyectos, tratamiento de los trabajadores, políticas de negocio… en las que las pautas culturales son determinantes. Muchos de los fracasos de las empresas que se ubican en el exterior obedecen al desconocimiento del ‘fenómeno cultural'que tan importante resulta para una adecuada –por rentable– política de la actividad empresarial. Estamos convencidos de que en este momento de fuerte expansión de las empresas españolas en el contexto internacional, esta novedosa figura del ‘asesor cultural'puede, y debe ser un referente importante que una cultura empresarial sensible, moralmente hablando, no puede dejar de lado por una cuestión de responsabilidad.
