This article analyzes the literary and historical legacies of two female characters from San Basilio de Palenque: Wiwa and Orika, two Africans, mother and daughter, originally from Guinea Bissau who were enslaved in Cartagena de Indias at the end of the 16th century. From a sociological and literary approach, centered on cultural studies and the theoretical contributions of decolonial feminism and black feminism, the study analyzes the fragmented representations of Wiwa and Orika in Colombian literature and history. Specifically, it explores their depiction in the short story "Orika de los palenques" by Germán Espinosa, and more generally in the collective memory observed in Cartagena and San Basilio during our fieldwork with the social leader Solvay Cáceres. This approach allows to redefine the profiles of these two Afro-Colombian heroines who, while not forgotten, are subject to stereotyped representations that are questionable nowadays. Helena Araújo's literary criticism holds a fundamental position in the Colombian literary scene of the second half of the 20th century. This article aims to explore her metaphors and proposals, enabling a reconsideration of the function of literary criticism by segmenting her critical work into two temporal periods: on one hand the decades between 1960 and 1970 and on the other hand, the eighties. Through the concept of "writing against", Araújo's literary criticism is outlined as a practice of frequent confrontation and dialogue not only with texts and writers but also with the literary work's creation, production, and distribution context, as well as the significant debate scenario formed by the 20th century's intellectual field. This article proposes a semiotic analysis of the feminist Street art provided by the Spanish artist BToy and the Chilean artist Isonauta, putting the focus on their ability to express themselves in the streets, to make women visible and to pose a coherent imaginary that allows them to dialogue with the observer. In the context of several social movements that have contributed to strengthen feminist networks, both globally and locally, since 2018, their works expose messages with clear symbols that reinforce the social identity of women, develop a powerful iconographic memory and allow to contemplate new feminist perspectives in their societies. Sara Ahmed addresses the construction of collectives through the circulation of affects. With this in mind, and given the gentrification threatening various regions, the discourse emerging from localism and, more specifically, from neighborhoods could be considered counter-hegemonic. After all, it concerns a reality that affects the identity of the people who inhabit these spaces and, in turn, their conception of the world and work, especially manual and artisanal labor. Therefore, the main objective of this text is to ideologically analyze the discourse of the San Julián neighborhood's artisan association in Seville; an association of women who champion the neighborhood's sounds and defend the identity of its people, despite the gentrification affecting their area. To this end, a focus group was conducted with the artisans of Recoveco Market who are in charge of the association's communication. This revealed aspects such as the circulation of affects among them and towards the neighborhood in which they live, as well as their conception of feminism and how it influences their shared reality. This article analyzes how different activisms in Chile – feminists, LGTBIQ+, anti-hegemonic masculinities, and groups opposing sexual and reproductive rights – contested the gender order during the country’s constituent process, which unfolded between 2020 and 2023. In particular, we explore the way in which anti-abortion groups mobilized, showing that they not only oppose the interruption of pregnancy, but they also try to re-signify gender as a social construct. From the logic of methodological assemblage, we combined the observation of street demonstrations and digital ethnography through a series of interviews with cyber-activists of “pro-life” organizations. From the analysis conducted on the practices and discourses of these groups, three types of political operations have been identified: a redefinition of the framework of rights at stake when debating abortion; a broadening of the affected subject otherwise restricted to the fetus; and a resignification of feminism. These findings allow us to conclude that such activisms do not represent “anti-gender” positions but rather correspond to a neoconservative gender countermovement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The founding conditions of the public (de)limits its scope of action and interpellation. Over time, numerous groups have problematized this framework and have tried to reformulate their insertion into it through collective actions. To explore its inconsistencies, alternatives and vanishing points, the gender vector is taken. After describing the public regime, the research moves to the public space, which, as a territorialized extension of the public realm, presents in its classic conception the same limitations as the public. In an attempt to go beyond that institutional public space, groups and social movements have created their own spaces, as loudspeakers and places to make themselves visible. The article focuses on how Social Centers, as spatial and infrastructural experiments, reinvent the public encounter by producing a public space. To do this, it delves into the dissidence practiced by the feminist project La Eskalera Karakola and the challenge they launch against the current public space and the insertion of women in that public space and, therefore, in the public realm. The film industry remains a male-dominated sector, particularly in managerial, creative, and technical positions. In this context, we explore the work of female directors in Spanish cinema concerning ETA terrorism (1977-2023) to observe and assess the contribution of women in a doubly masculine environment: film direction and terrorist violence. Within the framework of the so-called “battle of the narrative” and film and gender studies, and based on a qualitative methodology involving textual analysis of feature films and the study of existing literature, we trace the presence and voice of female directors. We investigate who they are, their number, and their contribution to cinema concerning ETA and Spanish cinema in general. We examine the stories, genres, and themes they choose and the perspectives from which they approach them. We consider both the form and contextual issues related to the production and reception of their works. The results show that female directors are a minority in films about terrorism in Euskadi. We conclude that their work can be seen as a disruption in an adverse environment. They prefer genres such as drama or documentary, focus on a human perspective, several depict real or based-on-true-events stories featuring strong, free female protagonists, and several works approach the stories of victims. They feature characters, predominantly female, who defy stereotypes. Overall, they contribute to the memory of past events with a critical view of violence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this article is to analyze, from new conceptual tools, the role of digital platforms and feminist cyberactivism as spaces of dispute against structural violence and state authoritarianism. This research is conceived as qualitative, supported by grounded theory for the understanding of emerging categories; The view is supported by feminist critical theory. The use of the category of cyberactivism, over others used in the field, to understand the feminist dispute in the digital space is analytically supported. The particularity of the function and usefulness of these spaces in contexts marked by authoritarianism and control of the public and digital square is a key element in this analysis, which I name as feminist digital resistance against the dispossession of the State-capital. The rescue of the cyberactivism category is valuable to understand agency and feminist dispute in fenced digital spaces. The analysis of the place that socio-digital platforms and networks have in feminist political participation in the face of state authoritarianism outlines new research agendas to understand the complexity of the current sociopolitical dispute. This work addresses the masculinities that Manuel González Prada expressed in the essays he dedicated to women and indians in Horas de lucha. Reviewing these texts allows me to appreciate the nuances that differentiated his masculinities from the hegemonic masculinities of his time. To that end, I begin by explaining concepts of the masculinity approach from Connell and Messerschmidt's theory. Then, I briefly introduce González Prada, explain a periodization of his work, and situate it in relation to the movement that dominated in its last stage. Next, I review the essay "Las esclavas de la iglesia" with the objective of discussing whether the author in question presents an allyship masculinity. Afterwards, I analyse the essay "Nuestro indios" and compare it briefly with the prevailing ideas of the time on the subject. This allows me to show the masculinity Gonzalez Prada assigns to the Indians and the masculinity he expresses in relation to them. Finally, I conclude that, although the Peruvian politician expressed masculinities that differed from those of his time, those masculinities continued to be hegemonic in most cases, and he could only be considered an ally with respect to the women around him. Within feminism there is no unified perspective on surrogate pregnancy (sp). Feminist disagreement generally translates into a debate between the defense of autonomy and the protection from exploitation and oppression. This formula, however, overlooks the common feminist framework of the debate, within which limiting oppression and promoting women's autonomy should be considered shared goals. I will advance the debate by analyzing these shared objectives by appealing to contemporary literature on personal autonomy. I will argue that the models of autonomy assumed by those who defend sp as a form of self-determination mask significant forms of oppression in contemporary contexts and that it is only by adopting a particular conception of autonomy that feminist proposals contrary to sp can be seen as hostile to autonomy. I conclude that reflecting and legislating on sp requires models of autonomy that are sensitive to different forms of oppression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The women of the Andes serve as a testament to resilience and fortitude in the face of constraints imposed by social structures and stereotypes. The objective of this study is to analyze the narratives employed by women leaders regarding women's political participation in the Andes. A qualitative methodology based on a hermeneutic-dialogical foundation was employed, whereby eight women of andean altiplano origin were interviewed using an in-depth interview guide. The questions addressed the following categories: the right to be elected, the role of women in political participation, and the obstacles faced by women in the political environment. As a result, a number of emerging subcategories were identified, including gender participatory democracy, the evolution of female political principles, the characteristics of a female leader, the socio-political aspects of women, the marginalization of women, the transition to female management, gender-related obstacles, and female vindication. These subcategories provide insight into the challenges faced by women in the struggle against sexual harassment, gender-based violence, and all forms of discrimination. The meanings that people construct about concepts influence public policy; therefore, identifying them is significant for achieving a successful implementation process. In Mexico, the obligation of public officials to mainstream the gender perspective (GP) coexists and comes into tension with social debates surrounding the GP and its growing disapproval by conservative groups. The objective of the study was to understand and analyze the social representations (SR) of the gender perspective (GP) among teachers during the 2017-2018 school year in three public primary schools in León, Guanajuato, as well as its influence on the application of the GP in the school environment. The methodological design was qualitative and based on feminist theory and SR theory. Group interviews were conducted with 21 teachers from 1st, 4th, and 6th grades. Findings suggest that the SR held by teachers about the GP do not lead to actions that result in a correct application of the GP because their way of meaning gender and the GP lacks adequate information and is based on notions acquired from colloquial and media use. This poses an obstacle to achieving substantive equality in the educational field and is a consequence of a broader problem where the concept of gender has been trivialized, causing a theoretical and practical issue that needs further analysis. One of the key elements of feminist theory and practice is the questioning of the preestablished structures for relating that dictate who we should get close to and when, and the insistence on creating affective bonds that go beyond those allowed by the mandates. Coming from the field of children's studies we invoke those elements as we intend to study the ways in which teenage girls and adult women -members of a social organization called AulaVereda- bonded with each other while participating in the feminist movement, in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the years of 2018/2021. Using an ethnographic approach, we identified two different ways of bonding between the age groups emerging in the daily life of the organization. A pedagogical bond, on the one hand, and what we are calling a compañeras bond, on the other. We analyze these two styles using the metaphors of occupying knowledge and occupying the street, respectively. Františka Plamínková was a highly esteemed Czechoslovak feminist, secularist, and an internationally renowned socialist. Despite this, the conservative dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera invited her to Spain. The objective of this article is to analyse the dictator's motives, the reasons why her visit was well received by Spanish Catholic activists, and the consequences (or lack thereof) of the international criticism these activists faced for not challenging Plamínková's ideas. This investigation primarily utilised Spanish, Czechoslovak, and American sources, mainly newspapers, but also archival materials. Through a qualitative analysis of these sources, the article examines not only her visit to Spain but also its aftermath, as it initiated a period of reflection on the extent and influence of socialism within European women's organisations, and on the best strategies for Catholic women to counteract it. The most significant findings of the research are the confirmation that Spanish Catholic activists engaged in dialogue with women from other political cultures during Primo de Rivera's dictatorship, and that they did not capitulate to the criticism from foreign Catholics. Luisa Valenzuela's collection of short stories Cuentos de Hades (1993) retrieves and reinterprets traditional folktales from what some experts call a feminist perspective. Using a Lausbergian approach, this work aims to reveal how, in these stories, elocutio emerges from rhetorical devices such as questions, ellipses, and anaphora, as well as from syntax and grammar. Therefore, this work reveals the technical mechanisms involved in a statement for the opening of the senses, possibility and transformation of the protagonists. Those who desire (Elena López Riera, 2018) and Rapa das bestas (Jaione Camborda, 2017) emerge as two distinctive endeavors within the contemporary Spanish cinematic landscape. Rather than overtly showcasing their feminist stance by directly denouncing female inequality, they do so tangentially, probing into a social practice seemingly distant from gender conflict (a pigeon competition and an ancient tradition of horse shearing). In this study, the meticulous formal work of the two short films is analyzed, drawing upon the destabilization strategies of the gaze utilized in the so-called sensory documentary, evoking an audience experience that transcends purely intellectual engagement to also involve them emotionally and viscerally. It is through the estrangement operated on both the expressive and content levels that these two examples allow for the activation of a political reading of the androcentrism that pervades social spaces without having to explicitly articulate it. Though uncommon, the intertwining of the phenomenological and the semiotic proposed here sketches out new and hopeful paths of feminist positioning within the audiovisual landscape.
