This article discusses the role of Guatemalan deputy Antonio Larrazábal in the development of the Constitution of Cádiz in 1812. The author comments on the application of the constitution in the Spanish colonies at the time, including Guatemala, and describes the impact of Guatemala's independence in 1821 on the implementation country's own constitution.

The article presents a historiographical analysis of the events leading up to the first Battle of Olmedo, which took place in Spain during May of 1445. The author focuses on the role of the royal courts and the Spanish monarchy in the legal preparation for and causes of the battle, which took place between Castilian troops and those from Aragon and Navarre. Specifically discussed are the legal decrees imposed by King Juan II regarding the taxpaying regulations for the town of Medina del Campo, Spain, which resulted in an invasion by Juan II and his brother Alfonso V of Aragon and Navarre.

The article reflects on the influences of the Peruvian press on public opinion relating to governmental policy, cultural politics and Spanish liberalism during Peru's transition to independence between 1820 and 1824. The author addresses the three stages of government during the time period, including the protectorate, the establishment of the Constitutional Congress and the dictatorship of Simón Bolívar. This paper analyzes a group of judicial decisions from the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, in matters connected to Tax Law. In them, it is possible to observe the jurisprudential lines, the minority votes, and the matters that normally are debated in Chile. This work tries to make observations about aspects that the judgments normally do not mention, or that are treated poorly. The article examines ties between Spanish historian Francisco López de Gómara and Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés and his offspring, including son Martín Cortés and daughter María Cortés, based on testimony given by López de Gómara in legal cases in 1549 and 1551, just before publication of his book "Historia de las Indias y conquista de México." It explains that, according to his testimony, López de Gómara met Hernán Cortés in 1529 or 1530 after the latter returned from the New World for the first time, that he had a friendship with Martín Cortés, and that he did not know María Cortés.

The article focuses on local political relations between Indian leaders, municipal government and the archbishop of Guatemala in early 19th century Totonicapán, Guatemala. The author discusses the alliance between popular sectors and local government in opposition to the Spanish colonial government. He examines the issues, including the refusal to answer to colonial authorities (in representation of the Spanish Courts of Cadiz) and the protest against the tax requirements, which led to the political alliance between Indian groups, lower class peasants and municipal leaders in Totonicapán. This article provides a reprint of the Declaración de los Derechos del Ciudadano y de Constitución of Guatemala. The author presents a brief description of the drafting of the declaration and of the constitution, which was approved by the Cabildo (Council) of Guatemala in 1810. The document outlines the civil rights of the citizens and indigenous groups of Guatemala and served as an important antecedent to other such declarations throughout Central America, according to the author.
