This paper examines the data visualizations incorporated in the online versions of the main hybrid newspapers in Spain and the United States to find out their features and the role they play in the articles. In addition to this objective, the aim is to determine whether there are significant differences in the use of visualizations in the practice of data journalism in national and foreign newspapers. Through a content analysis, the articles published during the year 2021 in the web versions of El País, El Mundo, The New York Times and The Washington Post were analyzed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CURRICULUM , *EDUCATIONAL change , *INTERNATIONAL agencies - Abstract
In recent years, many countries and international organizations have devoted significant efforts to designing a school curriculum that responds to the educational needs of the 21st century. In Spain, the LOMLOE (Organic Law 3/2020, of 29 December, which amends Organic Law 2/2006, of 3 May, on Education) has also proposed the renewal of the curriculum as a key element for the modernization of the education system. The aim of this paper is to analyze the Spanish curriculum reform from a comparative perspective, in order to assess whether it is in line with the current trends of change on the international scene and to detect the conditions that must be met to successfully achieve its purpose, in the light of what has been learned in other countries. To this end, a comparative analysis framework has been developed based on UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and EU (European Union) publications on this subject and on various comparative studies on recent curriculum reforms around the world. The results show that, in terms of the approach and architecture of the curricular model of the compulsory education, the Spanish reform follows the recommendations of international organizations and shares to a large extent the characteristics of the reforms undertaken in many countries around us. However, it is also possible to detect some relevant differences in terms of the strategy adopted for the change and the agents involved in it, which should be considered, as they could become obstacles to the achievement of the pursued objectives. TRAINING needs , *REFERENCE sources , *CURRICULUM planning , *JOURNALISM education , *TECHNOLOGY education , *COMPUTER logic , *DIGITAL technology - Abstract
Technological transformations and, especially, the accelerated process of digitalization have changed the profiles and production routines of the media. At the same time, universities have had to adapt their journalism curricula to new training needs. This paper analyzes the evolution of the technical-digital training of the journalism degree in Spain over the last two decades through a comparative study of three stages: before, during, and after the adaptation to the EHEA (2000-2010-2020). The research brings together, as valuable reference material, the curricular offerings of 112 programs and 242 subjects that show the educational evolution of the digital environment over the last 20 years, with a longitudinal and epistemological approach. The trends identified by this diagnostic work confirm, among other aspects, how the design of journalism curricula has evolved at a slow and asynchronous pace in digital training until the last decade and with disparate speeds between universities. Added to this is the conformation of a highly varied epistemological heritage that, beyond the specific names of the subjects, denotes a progressive commitment to digital and multimedia teaching, combining generic hybrid knowledge with more specialized training in terms of languages and formats. TELECOMMUNICATION systems , *HIGHER education & state , *PUBLIC universities & colleges , *COMMUNICATION education , *GENDER inequality - Abstract
Communication studies in Spain have now become consolidated based on their evolution over the last 50 years. The aim of this paper is to provide an in-depth analysis of the current state of Spanish higher education in Communication. To this end, an analysis is carried out of the structure and composition of the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (master and PhD studies) in Communication at public and private universities in Spain, paying special attention to the centers that host these studies, the people who contribute to their operation, and their offerings and distribution. Using a descriptive methodology and the content analysis technique, an analysis form is applied to the universities composing the system of Communication studies in Spain, based on their offerings and the information available and accessible on their institutional websites. The results reveal the difficulty of accessing such data and the lack of common criteria (or compliance) for presenting such information on official websites. The results reveal a greater offering at the national level but a wide dispersion of the higher education offering in terms of type, location, type of university, and territorial distribution. We also highlight the gender gap in terms of faculty leadership as well as among teaching staff. We emphasize the phenomenon of double or combined degrees, especially at private universities. - Abstract
This study analyzes the use of Telegram as an electoral communication tool in Spain, focusing on the messages sent by the five major parties in the country (PSOE, PP, Vox, Unidas Podemos and Ciudadanos) during the campaigns corresponding to the general elections of April 28 and November 10, 2019. This research paper steps outside this somewhat still narrow area of methodology by combining two different research techniques on a methodological triangulation: traditional content analysis and data mining processes using Python. Results, which show how political parties in Spain use Telegram mainly as a mobilization tool while expressing closeness with the candidate, are contextualized thanks to the implementation of Big Data analysis techniques that improve and allow for an in-depth investigation and understanding of the study. This article is a research-based contribution to a debate expounded by Fernando Álvarez-Uría in 2013 in the journal Papers. Revista de Sociologia on the subject of the role of women in the political struggle in Spain. It contrasts the role of women whose "habitus" was located in the institutionalized and democratic "political world" in the early twentieth century and the role of revolutionary women who, by means of direct action, created new spaces for struggle and recognition, and for other types of lived experience. PUBLIC-private sector cooperation , *PRIMARY health care , *HEALTH insurance , *MEDICAL care , *DENTAL care , *PUBLIC health , *HEALTH care reform - Abstract
This paper addresses the public-private mix in the Spanish National Health System (SNS) presenting six case studies dealing with both insurance and provision: 1. The special health insurance of civil servants.' 2. The construction of public hospitals with a PFI scheme; 3. The total healthcare concessions of the 'Alzira model' in the Valencian Community and Madrid, which subcontract public insurance; 4. The contract between a large private teaching hospital and the Madrid Health Service; 5. The provision of primary health care in Catalonia through cooperative-like companies of health professionals; 6. A Children s Dental Care Program using public and private dentists. The great complexity, opacity, cost overruns and difficulty of public control of the PFI contracts, the concessions as well as the activity-based contract for hospital services, point out to the outright rejection of theses systems. The comparative nature of the public-private debate in healthcare should emphasize that the problems of 'the public' in the SNS are not due to its public nature but stem from its governance and management arrangements, clearly in need of deep reforms, many of which are included in the Conclusion-Dictamen on health of the Reconstruction Commission of the Congress. The work of Nightingale and his team in the Crimean War was significant. Their interventions were recognized in England and other countries. At that time, in Spain, care was mostly in the hands of the Church. This paper aims to identify the ideological position disseminated in the Spanish press on the role of Nightingale in the Crimean War. A bibliographic review was carried out in the Digital Newspaper Library of the National Library of Spain, obtaining 27 publications in Spanish press that referred to news of Nightingale and the Crimean War. The content was analysed following Gadamer's hermeneutics. Based on the political and religious ideology of each newspaper, the publications show discrepancies regarding the perception of Nightingale's work. Some newspapers define her as a imitator of religious institutions; others highlight a woman with an academic background and great leadership in health management. These divergences result from Nightingale's analysis in a cultural, political, and social context that was different from Protestant England. For future research it is proposed to analyse whether the information in the Spanish press in relation to the Nightingale nursing training initiative also generated discrepancies in this context. In this paper, our goal is to analyze trap music and its development in Spain in recent years. We try to understand its impact among young people, identifying their ethics and aesthetics and finding out how they are perceived among their consumers. Understanding youth cultures as metaphors for social and political changes, we study Spanish trap to find out what it tells us about our society and its recent transformations. Methodologically, we use the analysis of songs and videoclips, we develop interviews and focus groups with young consumers, trappers and producers, and we study representative trapper biographies. Appeared during the crisis that began in 2008 in impoverished areas as a song of the excluded and depoliticized youth, trap will become popular reflecting the concerns of a precarious youth. Trap, we conclude, is a contradictory genre that reproduces the logic of capitalism while opening up spaces for its response. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The aim of this work was to analyze the Spanish psychology publications and journals indexed in the Emerging Source Citation Index (ESCI) during the last three years, to provide relevant information such as the journal citation indicator (JCI), the number of published documents, the most studied topics, analysis of indicators, collaborations, etc. Using the time range 2018-2020, 17 journals were screened, and a total of 1,247 documents (1,071 articles) with 43,697 references were obtained. Excluding Spain, the most productive countries were Mexico, Brazil, and Chile. In terms of the number of authors, the same countries predominate, in the following order: Brazil, Mexico, and Chile. The journals with the highest JCI and number of citations per paper were the Revista Iberoamericana de Psicología y Salud (1.08 and 5.17 respectively) and the International Journal of Educational Psychology (0.70 and 2.14 respectively), the former being the only one in the first quartile. Those with the highest h and g indexes were the Revista Iberoamericana de Psicología y Salud (7 and 10 respectively) and Papeles del Psicólogo (6 and 9 respectively). The three most used «keywords» were psychotherapy, adolescents, and anxiety. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Globalization requires transportation systems that allow a rapid and massive exchange of goods in the face of new patterns of production and consumption. Air transport is essential for the rapid distribution of freight, where airports serve as connecting nodes between global and regional scales. The specificities of air cargo are shaping an airport network composed of a limited number of specialized terminals that concentrate the majority of the cargo volume. Due to the lack of studies on this matter for Spain, this paper aims to characterize whether Spanish airports are also joining the global air cargo dynamics. For this, an updated functional hierarchical relationship of airports is proposed through an analysis of conglomerates or clusters. The results show the concentration and specialization of air cargo in only four airports (two hubs for passengers and freight and two specialized cargo airports), according to the global processes of air freight transportation. This fact redraws the traditional airport hierarchy of freight transport and contributes new elements for the planning of transportation infrastructures and logistic activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIGITAL storytelling , *ARTIFICIAL intelligence , *DIGITAL media , *VIRTUAL reality , *HIGH technology , *ONLINE journalism , *DIGITAL video , *INTERACTIVE multimedia - Abstract
High technology has been one of the main assets used by the media around the world to stand out from the masses and reach an increasingly fragmented audience, including drone journalism, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. In this regard, the mid-2010s saw a whole phase of experimentation that began with so-called immersive journalism, a new way of producing news content using virtual reality and 360° video, which introduced various novelties in the way stories are both told and consumed/watched. Among these, 360° real-image videos are the most common form, which can be partly explained by factors such as time and cost, although it is also possible to find completely computer-generated (CG) nonfiction experiences. Legacy media such as The New York Times, El País, or the BBC have been experimenting with the possibilities of this immersive storytelling, but what about digital native media? The aim of this paper is to explore the use of 360° video by Spanish digital native media in order to observe the degree of development of immersive storytelling, as well as the quality of the pieces available more than 5 years after the start of this phenomenon known as immersive journalism. For this purpose, a content analysis of 360° videos published during the period 2015-2019 by El español, eldiario.es, El independiente, and El HuffPost has been carried out. The study of these particular cases reveals the absence of a narrative strategy aligned with the immersive format; in general, these are simple videos that provide little added value compared with the conventional format. Furthermore, the results show that the history of immersive journalism by these cybermedia has been limited in terms of both volume and time, with little guarantee that it will continue into the future. The main goal of this paper is to analyze how technological change affects the Spanish publishing industry and how it is adapting to the new digital environment. This work provides an averview of the situation of the Spanish publishing sector through the collection of data, mainly from secondary sources of information, both public and private, from 1996 to 2017, that involved the review of a large number of documents from different sources, the analysis of data obtained, and the generation of a time series allowing us to glimpse the state and evolution of digitalization in the Spanish publishing industry throughout these last twenty years. The paper refers to the new business models emerging as a result of digitization to, finally, close with some conclusions and limitations of the research. This study is not trying to be just a journey through the past, present and future of the spanish book industry in Spain, but it pretends to be the first step to continue investigating these and other aspects in a deeper way. The paper analyzes the informative coverage of 9 Latin American newspapers on the general election held in Spain on November 10, 2019. This is considered an important event that helped close a turbulent period of the national political life. A content analysis sheet was applied to all texts regarding the campaign appeared between November 1 and 11 (n = 35), considering, among other variables, location, extension, authorship, sources, genres, nature of the content and frame. The results allow concluding that the selected newspapers dedicated a wide space to the November 10 election. Furthermore, media outlet granted part of their coverage an interpretive dimension and offered a vision on the campaign dominated by the strategic and game frames, since they placed the focus on the polls and the possibility of post-electoral agreements. Equity is an unresolved issue on the Spanish healthcare agenda. This paper explores the importance that health professionals give to social determinants of health and the means they possess to address them. It also analyzes the relationship between food insecurity and increases in certain diseases. One of its objectives is to ascertain how increasing uncertainty is being addressed in primary healthcare services. We present a qualitative study carried out in six primary care centers in the cities of Reus and Tarragona between 2018 and 2019, involving 19 practitioners active in the areas of nursing, family practice, and social work. Results indicate that the lack of resources in primary care centers makes it difficult to integrate a social determinants of health approach, and thus to mitigate inequalities. Furthermore, a lack of structural actions diminishes the ability to respond to citizens’ healthcare needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to analyze the characteristics and challenges of public and private migration policies developed in Andalusian municipalities. The methodologies focus on bibliographic reviews and dialogue with selected local governments, public and private organizations, and Andalusian universities. It is concluded that local migration policies consider the socio-legal migrant condition in the access to basic rights, that is necessary to go beyond the recreational in the intercultural activities to achieve migrant integration at the local level; and, that a mestizo vision is required at the Andalusian level as a tool to demystify cultural essentialism that makes unfeasible egalitarian intercultural dialogues. The originality of this work lies in a direct dialog with the main local agents in migrant integration in Andalusia, and its limits consist of the need to continue researching the relationship between the intercultural, solidarity economies, decrease, and co-development. - Abstract
The rapid adoption of social media by public administrations deserves attention from the side of institutional information and communication. One of the points recently identified is the tone used by public sector organizations to deliver their messages, as it may encourage citizen collaboration and participation. This paper explores the tone that Spanish city councils with more than 50,000 inhabitants are using in their social media profiles. This paper is based in two research questions: (a) What is the general tone used by the city councils in their use of social media?; (b) What explanatory factors are behind the adoption of one tone or another? Studying Twitter through big data techniques and statistical analysis, this study finds a positive general communicative tone. Traditional organizational, institutional and environmental factors do not seem to have a statistical significant influence over the tone. This article concludes with proposals for improvement on future research derived from the research results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to propose different measures from urban planning to face the sea level rise in the Spanish coasts. Despite the recent changes to the Coastal Law, a new legal framework will soon have to be developed, consistent with this phenomenon. It will be necessary to identify the risk of affecting these phenomena of the current buildings based on their distance to the coastline and the erosion rates recorded in the last decades. Based on the classification in four typologies, three lines of strategies and essential measures for each one are proposed in this paper: a) project measures, affecting the design of projects buildings, (b) constructive measures, involving the used construction materials, as well as the building systems and c) urban planning and planning measures, which consist on the implantation and relocation of the buildings within the plot, as well as limiting the construction of new building. This paper analyzes the information coverage by the Spanish newspapers El país, El mundo, ABC, and La vanguardia in Twitter on the electoral campaign prior to the 10 November 2019 general elections. A content analysis of all tweets published by these media regarding the elections (n = 1,462) between Friday 1 and Saturday 9 November reveals that, although there are differences in the production patterns and features of the messages, the subject received notable attention in all the newspapers. The coverage gravitated around two main themes: the 4N electoral debate, and campaign events. The results reveal that, although most of the tweets had a neutral tone, messages with clear positioning corresponding to the editorial line of the newspaper were also published, albeit to a lesser extent. During the electoral period, the media agenda revolved around this issue, accounting for around one-fifth of all pieces published on Twitter. Newspapers do not take advantage of the dialogic nature or possibilities offered by this social network to create a community among their readers, limiting themselves to the dissemination of content from their digital edition. URBAN planning , *PUBLIC administration , *PUBLIC contracts , *CRIMINAL liability , *INDUSTRIAL management , *SOCIAL responsibility of business , *CONSUMER complaints , *BUREAUCRACY - Abstract
This paper starts from a basic premise: During the last years, there have been multiple corruption cases that affected public administrations credibility, but also the one of the private sectors of the economy. Areas such as urban planning or public contracting have been prolix regarding the occurrence of criminal activities that undermine the proper functioning of the Public Administration and business activity based on ethics and legality. Consequently, it is very important to implement internal complaint mechanisms to improve organizations (public and private ones) by prematurely discovering illicit conduct and, in turn, identifying the individuals responsible for such acts. In the same way, for some companies, the verification of the effectiveness of the complaint channels in court contributes to corporate defenses and in achieving exemption from criminal responsibility. Therefore, from a technical perspective, guidelines and recommendations are offered from different regulations point of view to increase the effectiveness of these channels and to reduce the legal uncertainty that occurs in Spain, given the limited drafting of the Penal Code. Likewise, anonymity, paid denunciation and the protection of the complainant against retaliation are addressed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AGRITOURISM , *IDENTITY (Psychology) , *RURAL tourism , *PERSPECTIVE taking , *TOURISM , *FOOD tourism - Abstract
This paper seeks to explore the current state of agritourism in Spain by taking a supplyside perspective. Following on from a theoretical-conceptual analysis of agritourism, the presence of this activity within the Spanish legal-administrative framework and the provisions made for it therein are examined, and its territorial distribution within Spain is described. Despite the existence of a tourism framework that is apparently favourable to agritourism, given current trends in tourism demand and Spain's great potential for tourism, the level of development and implementation of agritourism in Spain is not as advanced as that in other European countries. The recognition of agritourism and, consequently, the development of an identity that is distinct from that of other types of tourism have not, as yet, been adequately addressed in Spain. - Abstract
Throughout this paper, the exercise of the speaker role in the Government of Spain during the health crisis caused by COVID-19 is analyzed in perspective with the available theory and taking the case study as fundamental methodology. The classic variables on crisis speaker (profile, number of speakers, relation to the media and decision-making capacity or not of who should carry out this work) are evaluated in the light of the strategy followed by the Spanish Executive, concluding that a coordinated and mixed multi-voice system has been chosen. This format has raised some dysfunctions and in it highlights include Doctor Fernando Simón, the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa and the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. In order to be able to discuss the previous theoretical evidence, indicators are provided on the communication of this crisis and some conflicting points are collected that could serve for a future improvement of messages transmission in this type of situation. If until now it has been proven that there cannot be good crisis management without proper communication planning, in the future, the new health and ecological scenarios will generate highly mediated massive threat contexts for which the correct choice of the crisis speaker will be decisive. Doctoral dissertations enable the transfer of research skills and capacities to future generations and the consolidation of lines of research in a given area of knowledge. The field of Library and Information Science in public universities in Spain is characterized by the supervision of doctoral theses by academics in the area. We identified active professors during the 2019-2020 academic year, their date of appointment as civil servants within the public university system, the dissertations that they supervised, and their participation in papers published in scientific journals. The analysis included 644 theses. About a quarter (23%) of university faculty have never supervised a doctoral thesis, and most faculty members and tenured professors (60%) show a lower than average rate of adviserships per year since their academic appointment. There is a high concentration of PhD advisers in just a few institutions and academics (8% of university professors have supervised 42% of the dissertations), with an important gender imbalance: women supervised an average of 1.8 dissertations, compared with 2.6 for men. Information units and services, study metrics and scientific publications, and information sources are the topics of 47% of the dissertations. Many of the professors with 10 or more adviserships (n/N = 12/18) lack a subject area specialization, and their role in PhD supervision was not related to their participation in research activities oriented toward publishing in scientific journals. Our results suggest that considering supervision of doctoral theses as an important academic merit could contribute to a further concentration of power and social capital among a small group of advisers. This phenomenon could reduce the plurality of topics addressed and favor suboptimal adviserships. The imbalances described emerge as another threat, exacerbating the epistemological crisis in the discipline and in the university studies in this area of knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ACADEMIC libraries , *DIGITAL libraries , *VIRTUAL reality , *ACADEMIC departments , *COVID-19 , *SCHOOL librarians - Abstract
Spanish university libraries have had to adapt their services to the virtual environment after the classroom-based teaching lockdown in March 2020 due to Covid-19. Given the possibility of a greater virtual dimension of learning and teaching during the next academic year, these library services should be improved. This paper analyzes how university libraries are strengthening their support for online learning and are progressively being integrated into the virtual campus, as well as the actions that are necessary to enhance these services and the main difficulties perceived by their librarians. For this purpose, a sample of professionals from university libraries was interviewed, and the research literature on this subject was also reviewed to identify the main international experiences that can be considered as benchmarks for improving virtual library services. Both the research literature and the librarians interviewed agree on two aspects: the need to increase collaboration with other university departments and the wide scope for improvement in the integration of the library into online learning, which is currently limited. This paper analyses the production, themes and relations between authorship and direction of Ph.D. theses on photography in Spain (2010-2020) from a gender perspective. Bibliometric techniques have been applied using Dialnet as the main source and two thesis samples in Social Sciences and Humanities. The 354 theses in photography (54.52% female authors, and 62.16% male professors in management roles), show a weak academic model to ensure a constant scientific production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GOVERNMENT report writing , *WEB portals , *INVENTORIES , *PUBLIC relations , *SEMI-structured interviews - Abstract
Associationism, a habitual professional and academic practice in all fields, present in Spain various peculiarities in the case of Public Relations, suffering from a lack of recognition and identification as an independent discipline since its inception. In the professional field, this leads to the appearance of multiple associations that, with different names and many times obviating the words Public Relations, bring together professionals in the sector, but in the field of university research and teaching there is no such associative tradition. In order to fill this gap, AIRP, the Association of Researchers in Public Relations of Spain, was founded in 2004. 16 years after its creation, this article analyzes the meaning and usefulness of said association, both at the beginning and at present, and takes stock of the evolution of Public Relations in Spain throughout this decade and a half, in the professional field and, above all, the academic one. A methodology based on a semi-structured interview with three of the four AIRP founding professors and a content analysis of various documents, such as the census and the entity's web portal, is proposed for this. Among the results obtained, the academic impulse that the networking and associative work of the majority of Spanish researchers in the field has entailed for Public Relations, who before the existence of AIRP worked independently; a boost that translates into greater scientific recognition of the profession and a notable improvement in the indicators of scientific production associated with it, with the consequent greater presence of the discipline in the study plans and the promotion of specialized teachers. Therefore, the importance of associationism is also corroborated in the academic, non-professional sphere, especially in the case of disciplines, such as Public Relations in Spain, which needed an important work of dignity. A process to which the high level of Spanish PR researchers undoubtedly contributes, which has allowed many of them access to full professor and even professorial positions, something unthinkable a few years ago. In relation to the eternal debate on the correct translation into Spanish of the term Public Relations, the researchers are committed to maintaining the name Relaciones Públicas which, although in the professional field is elusive, in the academic field it remains, even in the name of the Degree study. Finally, in relation to the history and evolution of AIRP, the entity has notably increased the number of partners since its foundation, counting on a presence in the majority of universities that offer Advertising and Public Relations studies. This expansion, which will continue to be promoted, must be compatible, however, with its vocation as a specialized entity, absolutely focused on the study of Public Relations. The entity's most immediate challenge is the preparation of the White Paper on the Scope of Public Relations, a guide for the preparation of study plans on the subject. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COOPERATION , *GOVERNMENT policy , *NONPROFIT sector , *GREAT men & women , *GENDER inequality , *WOMEN'S empowerment - Abstract
Due to their characteristics, cooperatives have a great potential for women and men to participate on equal terms, although gender imbalances still exist. In order to explore this issue, this paper reviews the evolution of the cooperative movement with respect to gender equality, paying attention to the forces in the environment that have strengthened this position. It also analyses the elements that act in environments as disparate as those of Cuba and Spain and that favor the participation of women in cooperatives. Reference is made to Non-agricultural Cooperatives in Cuba and Associated Work Cooperatives in Spain, which are similar organizations. Using a qualitative methodology, theoretical methods of a socio-legal nature were used, which made it possible to focus on the evolution of cooperativism as part of a historical process and to compare the cases of both countries. The corpus has been made up of the main international declarations on gender and the Social Economy, as well as laws, regional and national public policies that promote gender equality in cooperatives. The results indicate that, with the particularities of each country, the evolution of the international context has exerted pressure for action in this area. However, the changes introduced by cooperatives require that the experience for women be successful, in terms of promoting real long-term empowerment and being a viable economic alternative that transcends the times of crisis that have encouraged them. - Abstract
This paper analyses the news on Covid-19 and 2019-nCoV in the Spanish media. This is done by using news retrieved from My news database. The analysis includes the total amount of news in Spanish media by type of media; the evolution of the publication in digital media considering various periods of time, and the volume of news in the most used Spanish digital media. The results show that digital media are the most used among other types to publish on the topic, with a significant increase since the beginning of the alarm state. In this sense, some arguments on the function and utility of this type of media during the confinement are exposed. Also, the essential role of digital media covering the population’s information needs is discussed. The digital media with the largest number publications are abc.es, 20minutos. es, and elconfidencial.com. The value of this work is that it can serve as starting point for others in order to carry out content analysis on the subject considering different channels and digital media. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: This paper analyses the pressures that journalism has exerted or attempted to exert from politics. Methodology: The study uses a combination of qualitative methodologies, such as focus groups discussion, and quantitative ones, such as surveys of journalists; both methodologies allows to know how politics influence journalists and how it can limit media instruments of accountability. Results: this study presents the results of an investigation that shows that journalists and citizens share the perception that political influence is one of the main assumptions that affect the development of good journalism. Discussion/conclusion: Although journalists recognize political and government pressures, the study concludes that they do not give in or feel responsible to political parties or governments. The Global Capability Framework for Public Relations and Communication Management (Fawkes et at., 2018) is the first international proposal that applies the capability concept to the discipline in order to describe the scope and future potential of a global profession. A global framework with 11 capabilities is the result of an empirical research (Delphi, survey, interviews and focus groups) with more than 1.400 experts, scholars and practitioners, in nine countries of five continents (Argentina, Australia, Canada, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA). Also, each country has its own capability framework. In this paper it is presented for the first time the specific frameworks, and its comparison, from Argentina and Spain, the only participants' hispanic countries. As a general conclusion, the findings reveal a strong strategic and social orientation of the profession, but there are significant differences that may be explained by different regional contexts. ELECTIONS , *POLITICAL agenda , *FEDERAL government , *POLITICAL parties , *CONTENT analysis - Abstract
Introduction: This is a research paper that focuses on the Spanish General Elections of 2015 and the subsequent elections, which were held in 2016 as a result of the former ones not producing any agreements leading to the creation of a stable executive. During that period and, in particular, since 2015, politics in Spain overcame a historical two-party domination for the first time in its democracy - on the one hand, the Popular Party (PP) and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) - giving way to new political parties aspiring to reach national government, for example, Podemos and Ciudadanos. The main elements of the research deal with studies in agenda setting including an analysis of the Spanish public and media agendas, with a particular emphasis on political coverage. Methodology: A content analysis of the press has been carried out (El Mundo and El País) during the campaign period of the aforementioned elections, revealing the most significant topics on the agenda. Results and Discussion: The data produced by the study indicate that the problems deemed important for the country by Spanish voters have been relegated to a second tier during the electoral campaign. Leaders and different groups prefer to highlight issues linked to politics and governance called "meta-topics" in their speeches, centering on pacts, agreements and self-reference rather than the usual issues of the political agenda such as employment, health and education, among others. - Abstract
This paper presents a critique of the interpretation of the results and some other methodological issues of the 2019 Spanish report on reading Barómetro de hábitos de lectura y compra de libros en España. It is argued that both the methodology and interpretation are essential in any field of knowledge in order to reach valid conclusions that are in accordance with reality. The critique depicts a different scenario regarding the conclusions of the analyzed Spanish report. The categories used for the frequency of reading must be reconfigured. Otherwise, it is difficult not to conclude that people in Spain are avid readers (only by reading at least once a month). On the other hand, if three out of four people in Spain do not use the library, the optimistic conclusion regarding the evaluation rating of the few people who do use libraries should be revised to include the information about those who do not use them. Also, the poor attendance and scarce interest in such use are justified by the fact that public libraries only cover 9.2% of the total reading by the population. Thereafter, two ideas are presented: the first, based on the personal experience of the author of this work, relates to how the evaluation and use of libraries in Spain could be improved by comparison with libraries in other countries; the second suggests that carrying out studies of non-users could be interesting, due to the fact that three out of four people in Spain do not use the library. In conclusion, the misinterpretation of and the definitions of the methodology in the analyzed Spanish report are related to the Pygmalion effect from the field of Pedagogy and Education. Librarians and researchers should be conscious of the real situation of both libraries and reading in Spain, beyond the optimistic conclusions of the 2019 Spanish report on reading. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected more than 200 countries and there are about 10 million registered cases worldwide. This health crisis is generated sudden changes throughout society, and containing the spread of infection required that citizens be confined in their homes. Consequently, governments designed hygiene measures and implemented immediate actions to safeguard the well-being of their population. The objective of this paper is to learn about the communication strategy used by the public health authorities in Mexico and in Spain in response to the COVID-19 health crisis, and thus to learn about the options for communication resources that can be used in a health emergency situation. The websites and official Twitter profiles of each organization are reviewed to determine what story they created and how they included the use of metaphors in their communication. The main finding is the need to build a message that generates an emotional connection with the audience, giving the necessary prominence to the citizen and taking into consideration the cultural context in which it is acted upon. MENTAL health services , *MENTAL health personnel , *MENTAL health , *LINGUISTIC analysis , *COMMUNICATION barriers - Abstract
This paper presents a linguistic and interpretative analysis of the use of conceptual metaphors in the field of mental health, taking as a field of observation the use of Twitter in the first edition of Mad Pride Day in Spain, held on May 20, 2018. The objective is to give a first-person account of the attitudes expressed by activists. The results show a questioning of the coercive logics produced by psychiatric care, a problematization of the hegemonic model as a whole, a criticism of the oppression implied by stigma, communication problems with professionals in the field of mental health, as well as demands for greater dialogue with them. This analysis has allowed us to understand linguistic modes of resignifying the field of mental health, and also to account for the tensions between subjective perceptions of the people diagnosed and the productions of the hegemonic medical model. To know the perceived and real difficulties of the company in Spain in relation to the implementation of R+D+i by the Spanish business, we start from the vision that employees have about the ease or difficulty of their companies at the time of doing research and development and therefore, innovation. In this paper we analyze the highlights of the survey prepared under the auspices of the "Scientific Culture Research Project: perception and attitudes towards science and innovation in the Spanish business sector" funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The results obtained advance that education and the promotion of an innovative attitude are the basis for achieving a successful business development since innovation is one of the key pillars of the maintenance and survival of companies today. SCIENTIFIC community , *COMMUNICATIONS research , *EVALUATION research , *INSTITUTIONAL environment ,RESEARCH evaluation - Abstract
The institutional framework supporting Spanish Communication research has changed radically over the past 30 years, affecting the internal structure of the academic community and the characteristics of scientific production in this field. This paper reconstructs that process by attending to four factors: the increase since the early 1990s in universities offering Communication studies; the establishment of three distinct Communication degree programmes (1991); the deployment and consolidation of a culture of evaluation of research activity (1989-2008); and the recognition of Communication as a specific area in the National RD&I Plan (2010). Such institutional changes have had a significant impact on the structure of the scientific community (exponential growth, incorporation of women, growing internationalisation, etc.) and the general direction of scientific production (publication formats, collaborative research, methodological quality, etc.). The various identified indicators showed a turning point in Spanish Communication research in the mid-2000s, situating it within parameters that differed considerably from those of the previous period. Personal assistance service is a personalized help service for independent living that is part of the "model to attend to diversity". It recognizes the capacity and the right of everyone to enjoy the maximum of his autonomy in development of his life project. This paper analyses one of the few experiences in Spain of implementation of the service for people with intellectual disability and/or severe mental illness. Using a qualitative methodology (semi-structured interviews and focus groups), the research provides some ideas about the identity of the service, the role of personal assistants, the participation of the voluntary sector and the assessment made by their managers and their target audience. EDUCATION policy , *COMPARATIVE method , *COMPARATIVE education , *EDUCATIONAL attainment , *ASSESSMENT of education , *ANTI-globalization movement - Abstract
Nowadays, there is an open discussion regarding the consequences of globalization in education. Some experts consider the existence of transnational influences that drive to a progressive harmonization of educational policies in a worldwide level. Other experts consider that the States continue being a key factor in the configuration of education systems. The objective of this paper is contributing to such discussion, analysing the current models of school system evaluation in two countries with characteristics very well differentiated, as are Mexico and Spain. In order to achieve this goal, it has been set up a research based on comparative method that allows to note the similarities and the differences between both models. The results indicate a convergence between Mexico and Spain that, despite their different contexts and educational problems, have adopted models of evaluation practically homogeneous. Even though these results are limited to these two countries and cannot be generalized, the analogies found seem to strengthen the existence of a process of educational standardization in a global perspective. Therefore, the streams of thought that emphasize the primacy of international influence over national levels in educational policies are reinforced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
