Abstract: This paper makes an analysis of the literature that supports the creation and implementation of CyberL@bKids. CyberL@bKids is a digital platform designed for teaching and learning English according to the curriculum of the Ministry of Education in Costa Rica. It was created by researchers at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), in order to meet the needs of I and II Cycle of public education in the area of ​​English. The design and structure of this digital platform are student-centered. Within this paper, there is a description of the representative colors and characters for each grade (1st to 6th), examples of interactive activities, samples of the presentation of vocabulary, illustrations of the presentation of grammatical structures in context, and examples of the integration of skills, among others. The literature emphasizes the use of meaningful learning strategies, task-based and content-based teaching methods for the teaching and learning of English as a foreign through the integration of technology (ICT). This platform was piloted by the Ministry of Education for a year, and since 2012, CyberL@bKids is used by all primary schools in the country.Resumen: Este ensayo hace un análisis de la literatura que sustenta la creación e implementación de CyberL@bKids. CyberL@bKids es una plataforma digital diseñada para la enseñanza y aprendizaje del inglés de acuerdo al currículo del Ministerio de Educación de Costa Rica. La misma fue creada por investigadores de la Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), con el propósito de cumplir con las necesidades de la educación del I y II Ciclo de Educación Pública en el área de inglés. El diseño y la estructura de esta plataforma digital están centrados en el estudiante. Dentro de este ensayo se describe los colores y personajes representativos para cada grado (primero a sexto grado), ejemplos de actividades interactivas, muestras de la presentación del vocabulario, de las estructuras gramaticales en contexto, y de la integración de destrezas, entre otros. La literatura enfatiza la utilización de estrategias de aprendizaje significativas y métodos de enseñanza basado en tareas y en contenidos auténticos para la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del inglés como lengua extranjera mediada por las TIC. Esta plataforma fue piloteada por el Ministerio de Educación por un año, y a partir del año 2012, es utilizada por todas las escuelas primarias del país.

Resumen: Abordar la evaluación del profesor, independientemente del nivel educativo en que se desempeña, implica tener claridad en dos aspectos: por una parte, desde qué posición conceptual se asume la evaluación y, por otra, qué se va a evaluar del profesor. En la literatura existente sobre la evaluación de la práctica educativa se encuentra, frecuentemente, el abordaje de estos dos conceptos de manera separada. El presente trabajo articula estos dos conceptos para tener una precisión conceptual de lo que implica el constructo de evaluación de la práctica educativa y su importancia en el proceso evaluativo. Para ello, primero, se realiza un recorrido teórico de la evaluación en su sentido más general y en el ámbito educativo. Segundo, se discuten los diferentes objetos, propósitos o finalidades y características de todo proceso de evaluación, independientemente del nivel educativo en el cual éste se lleve a cabo. Finalmente, asumiendo el paradigma conceptual de evaluación para mejorar, se discute el constructo de evaluación de la práctica educativa, haciendo énfasis en la diferencia con la evaluación de la práctica docente.Abstract: Two key aspects of research on teacher performance evaluation, regardless of the teaching context where the research is to be conducted, are the theoretical foundations to support the evaluation process and the dimensions to evaluate in the teaching performance. While these two aspects should be theoretically interconnected within the research design, they are often addressed as independent aspects, both in theoretical and empirical research. This paper aims at bridging these two concepts by putting forward the construct of educational practice evaluation and its relevance to teacher evaluation. Thus, the paper first reviews the evolution of the construct of evaluation, within a general and educational framework. Then, the goal, focus, and steps of educational evaluation research are described. Finally, arguing that teacher evaluation results should primarily lead to educational quality improvement, the construct of educational practice evaluation is discussed, spotting out differences between teacher performance evaluation and educational practice evaluation.

This paper presents a research study about timber shear walls, with materials commercially available in Costa Rica. With new developments in engineered timber, the Costa Rican Seismic Code included a chapter on timber structures, defining diaphragms and shear walls as part of the lateral resisting system. A research study was then carried out, with the objective of determining the structural behavior of a typical shear wall. Twelve specimens were constructed and tested, varying the nail spacing and anchorage system. The specimens were tested with monotonic and cyclic loading procedures according to ASTM E564 and ASTM E2126 respectively. It was found that the specimens can develop an adequate shear strength and stiffness if the end studs are adequately anchored to the foundation. These results are an important input for the Costa Rican Seismic Code and for the development of engineered timber in Costa Rica.

El presente trabajo describe petrográfica y genéticamente, una serie de hallazgos de peperitas como ejemplos de coexistencia espacial y temporal del magmatismo con la sedimentación en Costa Rica. Los casos se presentan en complejos ígneos básicos (ofiolitas) variando desde mezclas incompletas (megabloques de radiolaritas con diabasas en el Complejo de Nicoya) hasta mezclas completas en varios grados de calizas pelágicas del Maastrictiano-Paleoceno (Formación Golfito) o del Paleoceno con basaltos (Subcomplejo Quepos o Formación Tulín) para dar peperitas brechoides y bulbosas. Dentro del arco Oligo-Mioceno, se tienen ejemplos a lo largo de la cordillera de Talamanca y sus estribaciones, así como en las llanuras de Sarapiquí, representados por peperitas brechoides, fluidales y bulbosas en cuerpos de lava latiandesíticos (Formación Pacacua) o chimeneas peperíticas brechoides en ignimbritas (Miembro Mata de Limón), o posibles peperitas brechoides en los depósitos de flujos de lava del prospecto minero de Crucitas (Formación Cureña), o simples posibles peperitas brechoides en flujos de lava andesíticas (Formación Pacacua en Talamanca), o como brechas hidroclásticas con fragmentos de composición dacítica de Carbonal en Guanacaste, justamente entre las playas Cabuyal y Naranjo. Todas ellas serían los equivalentes proximales del vulcanismo explosivo, efusivo y subvolcánico (domos endógenos y criptodomos) y su concomitancia con la sedimentación fluvial. En el Cuaternario, un ejemplo se da en la base de la Formación Tiribí al contacto con el lacustre de Palmares. Se incluyen en el presente trabajo, además, casos posibles o potenciales. Se espera que la descripción e interpretación de este tipo de rocas ayude a su identificación en otras regiones de Costa Rica y Centroamérica en general, así como una fuente potencial para la prospección de metales valiosos.This paper describes petrographically and genetically, a number of peperites, as examples of spatial and temporal coexistence of magmatism and sedimentation in Costa Rica. The cases are presented in basic igneous complexes (ophiolites), mixtures varying from incomplete (megablocks of radiolarite with diabase in the Nicoya Complex) to complete mixes in various stages of Maastrichtian-Paleocene (Golfito Formation) or Paleocene pelagic limestones with basalts (Quepos Subcomplex or Tulín Formation) to form brechoid and pillowed peperites. Within the Oligo-Miocene arc, there are examples extended along the Talamanca range and its foothills, as well as Sarapiquí’s plains represented for brechoid and bulbous (fluidal) peperites in latiandesitic lavas (Pacacua Formation) or brechoid peperitic pipes in ignimbrites (Mata de Limón Member) or possible brechoid peperites in lavas in the Crucitas mining prospect (Cureña Formation), or simple brechoid peperites in andesitic flow (Pacacua Formation, in Talamanca) or as hydroclastic breccias with fragments of dacitic composition in lava flow deposits of Carbonal Guanacaste, just between the beaches Cabuyal and Naranjo. All these rocks represented proximal equivalents of the explosive, effusive and subvolcanic volcanism (endogenous domes and criptodomes) and his concomitance with the fluvial sedimentation. In Quaternary period, we have a sample in the base of Tiribí Formation in contact with Palmares Lacustrine. Also this paper included possible and potential cases. It hopes that the description and interpretation of this type of rocks helps to its identification in other regions of Costa Rica and Central America in general, as well as a potential source for the exploration of valuable metals.

Resumen: El presente documento recoge los aportes de una investigación titulada: “Modelo de Aprendizaje en Entornos Virtuales en la Educación Superior” que se está desarrollando para el Doctorado en Investigación con énfasis en las Ciencias Sociales en la Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí (UNACHI), David, Chiriquí, República de Panamá, cuyo Programa Doctoral se realiza de acuerdo con el convenio firmado entre UNACHI y la Universidad del Mar, Chile. Se destacan las gestiones más sobresalientes y las acciones dirigidas hacia la implementación de las TIC para mejorar la calidad de la educación a nivel superior. Se describen los cambios generados por las nuevas Tecnologías de la Información y de la Comunicación en el sistema educativo a nivel mundial, vaticinando la transformación del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje, y la forma en que docentes y alumnos acceden al conocimiento y la información. Finalmente, se puntualiza el esfuerzo que realiza el Estado Panameño en la introducción de las TIC a nivel superior con una descripción de la trayectoria de la educación virtual en diferentes instituciones a nivel nacional.Abstract: The following paper reflects input of a research study entitled “A Model for Virtual Learning in Higher Education”, which is being developed for a Doctoral Program in Research with emphasis in Social Science at Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí (UNACHI), David, Chiriquí, Republic of Panama. This doctoral program is being held according to the agreement signed between UNACHI and Universidad del Mar, Chile. This article makes reference to the international and national policies, particularly in the Republic of Panama, for the implementation of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The paper highlights the most outstanding management policies and directed actions towards the execution of ICTs for the improvement of the quality of higher education. The main changes or transformations generated from ICTs are described, foreseeing renovations in the teaching and learning process and in the ways both professors and students acquire knowledge and information in higher education. Finally, the paper pinpoints the efforts done by the Panamanian government to innovate in virtual education through ICTs nationwide.

Resumen: El presente ensayo se basa en un trabajo realizado como requisito para el curso Tecnología Asistiva para la Diversidad de Usuarios, del programa de Doctorado Psicología Evolutiva, Aprendizaje y Educación, de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, durante el segundo semestre del 2009. El estudio hace una recopilación documental sobre la historia de la tecnología al servicio de población con discapacidad y el uso específico de las TIC en la atención de las personas con discapacidad intelectual. Además, se presenta una descripción de software alternativos de dominio público y sitios Web disponibles en la internet considerados idóneos por su funcionalidad pedagógica, calidad en el entorno audiovisual, cantidad de los dispositivos multimedia presentes, el nivel de accesibilidad para los usuarios y el grado de motivación y atractivo que presenta para mantener la curiosidad, atención e interés necesarios para la atención pedagógica de esta población estudiantil.Abstract: This paper is based on a work carried out as a request for the course of Support Technologies for users' diversity, of Evolutionary Psychology Doctoral Program of University Autonomous of Madrid, during the second semester 2009. The paper makes a summary of documents about the history of technologies to support people with disabilities and its specific uses of TIC to attend people with intellectual disabilities. Furthermore, it presents a description of alternative public domain software and web sites available on line considered suitable for teaching because of its visual environment quality, quantity of multimedia devices, the level for users accessibility and the motivation and attractiveness to maintaining curiosity, attention and interest for the education of this student population.

Speaking is a remarkable feature of human beings. People speak on a daily basis in order to communicate and exchange meaningful information. Therefore, the development of such ability in L2 students becomes very important. This study reflects upon the experience of using three speaking activities: 1- a role-play, 2- an interview and 3- speaking workstations to foster students’ oral production in the EFL class (English as a Foreign Language). Ad- ditionally, the methodology and the action plan are addressed. Facilitated by action research, this study reports on the use and subtleties of these speaking activities. The effectiveness and implementation of these activities are also discussed in this paper. The relevance of these activities to the teaching of speaking constitutes one of the main findings of this paper. Finally, this research project was especially useful as it heightened awareness of the re- searcher’s teaching beliefs.

Dos factores principales en los intercambios conversacionales: en primer lugar, la intención comunicativa y segundo, la sociedad misma. Este documento se centra en un tipo de acto comunicativo definido por Michael McTear (1985) como el captador de la atención. Captar la atención es, de acuerdo con McTear, dispositivos multifuncionales utilizados por el hablante para iniciar un intercambio o para establecer la comunicación después de varios intentos fallidos. La intención del hablante, un niño en este caso, es captar la atención de los adultos cuando necesita ayuda para realizar algún tipo de tarea escolar. En general, este trabajo presenta los resultados de un estudio observacional en el que los niños, en edades de seis a doce, interactuan en el aula y en la biblioteca de la escuela. Se supone, pues, que si se les ha dado la instrucción adecuada, el niño necesitará muy poca ayuda, pero si por alguna razón, el niño no entiende el mensaje del maestro, él / ella va a hacer uso de captar la atención con el fin de establecer la comunicación . Por otra parte, el niño va a utilizar captar la atención para obtener información o para participar en las actividades de clase. Two main factors condition conversational exchanges: fírst, the communicative intent and second, society itself. This paper concentrates on one type of communicative act defined by Michael McTear (1985) as the attention getter. Attention getters are, according to McTear, multifunctional devices used by the speaker to initiate an exchange or to establish communication after various unsuccessful attempts. The intention of the speaker, a child in this case, is to capture the attention of the adult whenever help is needed to perform some kind of school task. In general, this paper presents the results of an observational study in which children, ages six to twelve, interact in the classroom and in the school library. It is assumed, then that if proper instruction has been given, the child will need very little help, but if for some reason, the child does not understand the teacher's message, he/she will make use of attention getters in order to establish communication. Furthermore, the child will use attention getters to obtain information or to participate in class activities.

Resumen:Este artículo enmarca el tema concerniente al bilingüismo en general y como primera lengua. Se presenta un marco teórico acerca de cómo los niños aprenden un primer idioma. Este artículo resume la literatura relacionada con el bilingüismo y se hace una explicación acerca de dos procesos que lo fundamentan: Un Padre-Un Idioma y el Idioma Minoritario en Casa. El documento incluye ejemplos testimoniales acerca de una niña de tres años, llamada Itzel, que fue criada bajo la influencia de los procesos mencionados e incluye ejemplos del lenguaje de la niña tales como el cambio de códigos (code-switching) y/o la mezcla de códigos (code-mixing) como parte de su evolución en el bilingüismo como primer idioma. Esto evidencia que un niño o una niña puede ser bilingüe en un contexto donde no se habla otra lengua o en un contexto extranjero. Finalmente, se realiza una reflexión acerca del rol decisivo que desempeñan la dedicación, la consistencia y el esfuerzo, como componentes cruciales para el logro del bilingüismo como primera lengua.Abstract: This article deals with main issues concerning bilingualism and bilingual first language acquisition (BFLA). The properties of almost periodical functions and some new results have been published in [CA1], [CA2] and [CA3] In this paper we show some new definitions in order to analize some singularities. For this functions we find some uniqueness sets in $$\mathbb{R}$$ and $$\mathbb{R^{n}}$$. The paper finishes analizing the relation of this functions and the function sinc.

Resumen:En este artículo, a partir del análisis del impacto del Internet en los procesos de aprendizaje y en la vida cotidiana de la juventud costarricense, se expone una experiencia en la utilización de bitácoras electrónicas o “blogs” para el desarrollo de la competencia comunicativa. Esta experiencia consistió en la creación de bitácoras electrónicas o “blogs”, en forma grupal, para la elaboración y difusión de una indagación sobre varias temáticas de la realidad centroamericana. Se llevó a cabo durante el primer semestre de 2008 con estudiantes del curso Expresión Escrita I perteneciente al Bachillerato en Educación Primara de la Escuela de Formación Docente de la Universidad de Costa Rica. A partir de la experiencia descrita, se promueve la reflexión y la inquietud sobre las posibilidades que brinda Internet, específicamente la Web 2.0, para el desarrollo de la competencia comunicativa. Se concluye que la utilización de bitácoras electrónicas o “blogs”, permitió innovar procesos educativos y generar contextos significativos para el desarrollo de la competencia comunicativa.Abstract:Stemming from an analysis of the impact of Internet on the learning process and on the daily life of Costa Rican youth, this paper portrays an experience in the use of electronic blogs for the development of communication competence. The study was conducted generating group blogs to explore and disseminate different topics of the Central American reality; it was conducted during the first semester of the 2008 academic year, with students of the Written Expression I course of the Bachelor’s in Elementary Education of the School of Teacher Education at the University of Costa Rica. The knowledge developed from this practice created awareness and encouraged reflection on the possibilities offered by Internet and specifically the Web 2.0. The paper concludes that the use of electronic blogs in this instance, promoted innovation of the educational process and generation of meaningful contexts for the development of communication competence.

Resumen:El presente artículo describe resultados y conclusiones de una investigación realizada en un centro escolar de nivel medio llamado Instituto Brigadier General Martín Rodríguez, de financiamiento público y gestión privada, de la ciudad de Tandil, provincia de Buenos Aires, República Argentina. En este artículo se ha abordado la problemática de la estructura del centro escolar y su impacto en la gestión del conocimiento y la generación de aprendizaje organizacional en la escuela. Se investigó distinta bibliografía referida a la estructura organizacional, la gestión del conocimiento, las teorías denominadas principios, disciplinas, o procesos de aprendizaje organizacional, y organización y gestión de centros escolares. Se ha planteado a partir de allí el modelo de observación que caracteriza la dinámica y evolución del aprendizaje organizacional y sus efectos. Directivos, Docentes, Personal de apoyo, Alumnos aportaron sus opiniones para este trabajo. Bajo este modelo de abordaje, se evidencian en el caso planteado características estructurales predominantemente inhibidoras de los procesos de aprendizaje organizacional. Respecto de los conocimientos tratados e intercambiados entre personas del centro escolar, existe un exceso de cuestiones analíticas, en detrimento de creaciones originales o nuevas prácticas a partir de dichos procesos organizacionales. Es decir, no solo la estructura impide el aprendizaje organizacional, sino que además la característica del conocimiento intercambiado lo vuelve no benéfico organizacionalmente hablando.Abstract:The following paper describes results and conclusions of a research carried out in The Instituto Brigadier General Martín Rodríguez, a public financing and private management high school, located in Tandil city, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. The problem of the school structure has been addressed in this paper, as well as its impact on knowledge management and the production of organizational learning in the school. It has been gathered different literature related to the organizational structure, the knowledge management, theories named principles, disciplines, or processes of organizational learning, as well as organization and management of schools; based on such literature, the observation model (which characterizes the dynamics and evolution of organizational learning and its effects) has been presented. Faculty Board, Teachers, Non-Teaching staff, and students gave their opinions for this paper. According to this approaching model, the structural features, which inhibit the organizational learning processes in a prevailing way, are shown in this study case. Regarding the knowledge discussed and exchanged among people from the school, there is an excess of analytical issues in prejudice of original inventions or new practices based on such organizational processes; in other words, the organizational learning is affected not only by the structure, but also by the exchanged knowledge feature which, in turn, becomes such learning negative, organizationally speaking.

This is the first of two papers devoted to the proof of Zilber’s dichotomy for the case of difference-differential fields of characteristic zero. In this paper we use the techniques exposed in [9] to prove a weaker version of the dichotomy, more precisely, we prove the following: in DCFA the canonical base of a finite-dimensional type is internal to the fixed field of the field of constants. This will imply a weak version of Zilber’s dichotomy: a finite-dimensional type of SU-rank 1 is either 1-based or non-orthogonal to the fixed field of the field of constants.

Resumen:El objetivo principal del artículo es destacar la significación de la perspectiva histórico-cultural del desarrollo humano para el diseño de estrategias educativas favorecedoras del aprendizaje escolar de niños y niñas con deficiencias. A partir de las contribuciones de Vygotsky, en ese campo, y de los aportes de la Teoría de la Subjetividad, elaborada a partir da la perspectiva histórico-cultural, se presentan principios que, en su configuración sistémica, pueden constituir una base sólida para la reestructuración de diversos aspectos del trabajo educativo en la Educación Especial. En la primera parte del artículo son discutidas algunas de las concepciones y conceptos desarrollados por Vygotsky en su obra “Fundamentos de Defectología”. La fundamentación del carácter social de la deficiencia, los conceptos de defecto primario, defecto secundario y compensación, y la consideración del carácter creativo del aprendizaje y del desarrollo de las niñas y los niños deficientes. Se presentan las ideas centrales de la Teoría de la Subjetividad elaborada por González Rey, especialmente la concepción del aprendizaje escolar como un proceso de la subjetividad irreducible a habilidades y procesos intelectuales. Por último, se fundamentan tres implicaciones educacionales derivadas de la articulación de los dos sistemas conceptuales presentados: favorecer la creación de espacios comunicativos/relacionales que contribuyan a generar en el niño nuevas producciones de sentido sobre el aprendizaje y sobre la deficiencia, estimular en ellos el desarrollo de la condición de sujetos negada por las posiciones asistencialistas y paternalistas dominantes y el enfoque cualitativo, constructivo, singular, procesual e interactivo de los procesos de diagnóstico y de evaluación educacional.Abstract:The main proposal of this paper is to discuss the significance of historical–cultural approach in human development for the designing of educational strategies oriented to the facilitation of handicap children’s school learning. Starting from Vygotsky’s contribution to this topic and including the contributions of the Theory of the subjectivity from a historical cultural standpoint, are discussed some principles that in their systemic configuration could become a strong basis for the reorganization of some aspects concerning educational work in special education. In a first moment of the paper are discussed some conceptions and concepts developed by Vygotsky in his works “The Fundamentals of Defectology”. Concepts like the social character of the handicapped, the concepts of primary and secondary deficiency, the creative character of learning and the development of handicapped children are introduced and discussed. Following that moment are brought to the discussion some of the González Rey’s central ideas about subjectivity, emphasizing the definition of the school learning as a subjective process irreducible to intellectual skills and processes. Finally are proposed three educational implications resulted from the articulation of the two discussed theoretical approaches: the creation of new communicative scenarios oriented to the development of new subjective sense productions by children, concerning learning and their own defects, the effort to the emergence of the subject condition of the child, a position witch has been rejected by paternalistic dominant positions in this area, and the importance of a constructive, singular and interactive qualitative approach for the school processes of diagnosis and evaluation.

Resumen:En el presente artículo se discuten ideas y conceptos centrales de la primera y última parte de la obra de Lev S.Vygotski, los cuales han sido obviados por la mayoría de sus seguidores, tanto en la antigua Psicología Soviética, como en la Psicología Occidental. La obra de Vygotski ha sido identificada, de forma general, con su teoría cultural-histórica, asociada a sus trabajos entre 1928 y 1931. En este trabajo se retoman las ideas de Vygotski sobre el carácter generador de las emociones, el lugar de la fantasía y la imaginación, la personalidad y la unidad de lo cognitivo y lo afectivo, desarrolladas en algunos de sus primeros trabajos y discutidas en relación a sus consecuencias para la educación. También, son analizadas las categorías de sentido, vivencia y situación social del desarrollo, a través de las cuales Vygotski intenta concretar su idea de la unidad de lo cognitivo y lo afectivo en el desarrollo humano. A partir de esas categorías se introduce la cuestión de la subjetividad en el marco histórico cultural, la que se apoya en las categorías de sentido subjetivo y configuraciones subjetivas. Finalmente, se discuten las consecuencias de la reinserción de la cuestión de la subjetividad a partir del legado de Vygotski para la educación.Abstract:This paper focuses on ideas and concepts developed by Lev S.Vygotsky at the beginning and the end of his work. These ideas have been overlooked by most of his followers, either in the former Soviet psychology or in the Western psychology. Vygotsky´s work has been generally identified with his cultural-historical theory related to his works between 1928 and 1931. In this paper we examine Vygotsky´s ideas concerning the relevance of the emotions, the generative character of the psyche, fantasy, imagination, personality and the unity between emotional and cognitive processes, developed at the first and third moments of his work, and discuss in their implications for education. Vygotsky‟s concepts of sense, „pereshivanie, and social situation of development are also discussed. We argue that through these concepts Vygotsky made an attempt to represent his idea of the cognitive - emotional unity in the human development. The idea of the subjectivity is analyzed in relation to such categories from a historical – cultural standpoint. This idea is introduced based on the categories of subjective sense and subjective configurations. Finally, the consequences of the reinsertion of the topic of subjectivity on this approach for the education are discussed

Resumen:El contenido temático de este artículo es el resultado del Trabajo Final de Graduación de la Maestría Centroamericana en Administración Universitaria de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Se expone un análisis comparativ o de la condición del docente interino en la Universidad de Costa Rica (Sede Rodrigo Facio), durante el I ciclo 2007. Los alcances fueron obtenidos por medio de un estudio mixto a través de un método estadístico descriptivo con carácter polietápico del diseño muestral, cuyo fin fue interpretar y concluir sobre la situación que se plantea respecto al tema señalado. Como parte de las conclusiones se destaca que la contratación del docente interino en esta casa de estudios no cumplió con lo indicado en la normativa universitaria y ésta situación abarcó un 61,5 % del total del personal docente, en el ciclo señaladoAbstract:The following information is the result of a final graduation paper of the Central American Master Program in Institutional Administration of the University of Costa Rica. This paper develops a comparative analysis of the condition of temporary faculty at the University of Costa Rica (main campus Rodrigo Facio) during the first cycle, 2007. The scope of the study was gathered through a statistical and descriptive mixed study with a representative sampling whose purpose was to interpret and conclude about the reality of temporary faculty at the University of Costa Rica . Among the most outstanding conclusions obtained during the duration of the study, this paper highlights that the hiring of temporary faculty of the University of Costa Rica did not comply with the regulations or norms of the University and that the hiring of these professors represented 61,5 % of the total amount of faculty during the first cycle, 2007.

Recently, in the field of project scheduling problems the concept of partially renewable resources has been introduced. Theoretically, it is a generalization of both renewable and non-renewable resources. From an applied point of view, partially renewable resources allow us to model a large variety of situations that do not fit into classical models, but can be found in real problems in timetabling and labour scheduling. When modelling real problems, the problem of project scheduling with partially renewable resources, as many other combinatorial problems, gets such large dimensions that it is quite difficult to apply solution procedures. In this paper, we describe some powerful preprocessing techniques that reduce significantly the dimension of the problems and therefore improve the efficiency of any algorithm used for solving them. The paper shows the excellent results obtained by these techniques on a set of test instance taken from the literature. Keywords: Project Scheduling, Preprocessing, Partially Renewable Resources.

Many data analysis problems deal with non supervised partitioning of a data set, in non empty clusters well separated between them and homogeneous within the clusters. An ideal partitioning is obtained when any object can be assigned a class without ambiguity. The present paper has two main parts; first, we present different methods and heuristics that find the number of clusters for optimal partitioning of a set; afterwards, we propose a new heuristic and we perform different comparisons in order to evaluate the advantages on well known data sets; we end the paper with some concluding remarks. Resumen: Este artículo trata sobre la comunicación y la conducta asertivas como habilidades sociales, las cuales pueden ser desarrolladas y, de esta forma, mejorar el desempeño en las relaciones interpersonales. Se presentan diversas concepciones teóricas acerca de la asertividad, entendida básicamente como autoafirmación personal, la capacidad de respetar los derechos propios y los ajenos, y poder expresar de manera apropiada los sentimientos y pensamientos sin producir angustia o agresividad. Se estudian las características principales que definen y distinguen los comportamientos asertivos de aquellos que no lo son. Se analizan algunos de los principales estilos empleados por las personas para enfrentar las distintas situaciones de la vida, entre ellos el agresivo, el manipulador, el pasivo y el asertivo. Asimismo, se analiza la vinculación existente entre las dificultades que muestran algunas personas para comunicarse efectivamente y manifestar una conducta adecuada, y los problemas en la autoimagen y la autoestima de estas. Se comentan diversas creencias, pensamientos, derechos y principios asociados con las conductas asertivas y no asertivas. Finalmente, se hace referencia al campo educativo y la relación entre asertividad y adolescencia.Abstract:This paper deals with the assertive conducts and communication as social skills, so it is possible to develop and improve the performance in human relationships. There are many theoretical conceptions about assertively; it can be understood basically as the ability to express thoughts and feelings keeping the aggression and the anguish out. The main characteristic that defines the assertive and non-assertive behaviors are analyzed.Some of the main styles that the people uses to approach life such as the aggressive, the passive, the manipulative and the assertive, are studied. It also analyzes some of the challenges for the use of assertive conducts and communication and those are related with self-image and self-esteem issues. This paper deals with some of the believes and thoughts of the assertive and non-assertive conducts, just like the rights and principles of assertively. Finally a reference to the educational field it is made and the relationship between assertively and adolescence.

Fuel demand during the last 50 years in Costa Rica has increased constantly. Do the price of fuels and Gross National Income contribute to explain these trends? This paper explores the existence of causal relations between economic growth, fuel price, and transport demand (represented by fuel consumption and registered vehicles). Vector autoregression (VAR) models were estimated with a time series of data of 1965-2019. Causal relations were found between fuel demand and income, but not with registered vehicles. The effect of price on demand and income were documented, which is important for policy formulation (in particular, possible taxation of fuel demand as a carbon mitigation strategy).gation strategy.

En este documento se identifican elementos importantes relacionados con la perspectiva de género, que fueron producto de una experiencia investigativa de tipo cualitativa, con un método fenomenológico. Las personas participantes fueron cuatro maestras de educación primaria de una institución educativa subvencionada, perteneciente a la Dirección Regional de Educación San José Norte. Se plantearon preguntas claves que dirigieron el proceso de estudio. Para recabar la información se hizo uso de la entrevista a profundidad y se devolvió la información a las personas participantes con el propósito de validarla, mediante la técnica de discusión grupal. Un hallazgo importante, es el predominio del pensamiento hegemónico sobre lo que significa el ser mujer y el ser hombre, sin conciencia clara de que se transmite a la población infantil ese imaginario social respecto de sus habilidades sociales. Se presentan algunos aportes relevantes de la disciplina de Orientación sobre esta temática. This paper identifies important elements related to a gender perspective that were contributions of participants in a qualitative research experience in which a phenomenological methodology was used. Participants were four primary school teachers from one of the state-subsidised institutions of the North San José Educational Region. In-depth interviews were used to gather information. Group discussion was the technique used for data validation. An important finding is the predominance of hegemonic thinking about what it means to be a woman and to be a man, without a clear awareness that social imagery regarding their social abilities is transmitted to the children they teach. The relevance of Counseling interventions to address the topic are discussed in the paper.

Esta experiencia relata la intervención con una familia en el año 2008, mediante sesiones de trabajo, solicitadas por la abuela materna, debido a los problemas que el niño presentaba. Este proceso se realizó bajo el enfoque de la investigación acción. Dichas sesiones se realizaron en la cámara Gessel, de la Universidad Libre de Costa Rica. La supervisión estuvo a cargo del Director de Trabajo Social del Hospital Nacional Psiquiátrico, en el periodo indicado. La familia reportaba dificultades para el manejo de reglas y límites. En el documento se presentan los logros reportados por la familia sesión por sesión; lo cual refleja la capacidad de cambio y aprendizaje que demostró para hacer los ajustes necesarios que les permitiera crecer y fortalecerse. Este tipo de intervención facilita el acercamiento parental con su hijo, lo que genera cambios en todo el sistema familiar. This paper describes the intervention of a family in 2008. During the intervention there were developed several sessions because the child's grandmother noticed problems. This intervention was based on action research. Sessions took place in the Gesell chamber of Universidad Libre de Costa Rica, under the supervision of M. Sc. Gerardo Casas, Headman of the Social Work Unit at the Hospital Nacional Psiquiátrico. In this particular family, rules and limits setting were hard for the parents. This paper presents the achievements reported by the family in each session. It is concluded that the family has a huge change and learning capacity, which allows them to apply the necessary adjustments for growing and strengthening. The intervention eased rapprochement between father and son, and this changes the whole family system.
