Producción Científica, Surgical treatment options for medial compartment osteoarthritis of the knee include high tibial osteotomy, total knee arthroplasty or unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA), depending on the patient's age, level of physical activity and the degree of deformity. METHODS:In this study, we evaluated the long-term results of patients who underwent the Oxford cemented meniscal-bearing unicondylar knee prosthesis through a minimally invasive approach including a clinical, functional and radiographic assessment. RESULTS:Favourable clinical and radiological outcomes were registered overall at ten years after surgery. Overall results of UKA according to the American Knee Society (AKS) using Insall's criteria showed an excellent or good outcome for 492 knees (96.28 %), fair for 11 (2.15 %) and poor for eight (1.57 %) in the post-operative long term. CONCLUSIONS:We believe that with appropriate surgical technique, patient selection, prosthetic design and specific training, surgeons should achieve good outcomes with the added advantages of a minimally invasive approach. High volume for this technique is important in our opinion

Similarity search in a large collection of stored objects in a metric database has become a most interesting problem. The Spaghettis is an efficient metric data structure to index metric spaces. However, for real applications processing large volumes of generated data, query response times can be high enough. In these cases, it is necessary to apply mechanisms in order to significantly reduce the average query time. In this sense, the parallelization of metric structures is an interesting field of research. The recent appearance of GPUs for general purpose computing platforms offers powerful parallel processing capabilities. In this paper we propose a GPU-based implementation for Spaghettis metric structure. Firstly, we have adapted Spaghettis structure to GPU-based platform. Afterwards, we have compared both sequential and GPU-based implementation to analyse the performance, showing significant improvements in terms of time reduction, obtaining values of speed-up close to 10. Process Algebras, PAs, are formalisms able to capture the behaviour of a computing system by, for example, giving the labelled transition system, LTS, where states are nodes and where all possible evolutions of the system are arcs; The drawing of the complete LTS is a NP-complete task, so that, the reaching of a particular ?desired? state is a problem which deserves some heuristic for improving the amount of resources to be carried out. In this line, Artificial Intelligence by means of Genetic Algorithms (GA?s), provides metaheuristic techniques that have obtained good results in problems in which exhaustive techniques fail due to the size of the search space, as it is the exploration of a LTS. In this paper, we try to avoid this problem, so only unfolding the most promising (for the task of reaching a ?goal? state) branches within the LTS. Keywords Process Algebra ? Genetic Algorithm ? A tool for performance evaluation, called BAL, will be presented in this paper. The BAL tool works with systems specification by means of the timed process algebra BTC so that it is able to consider the duration of actions and the context (resources) in which processes are executed. BAL begins by first making the syntactic analysis of the system specification, and then draws up its relevant transition graph by applying the rules of the operational semantics and solves a performance optimization problem relevant to the minimization of the maximum completion time. We will then consider the application of BAL in Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS).

This paper reports the most significant issues related to the launching of a Monolingual Spanish Question Answering evaluation track at the Cross Language Evaluation Forum (CLEF 2003). It introduces some questions about multilingualism and describes the methodology for test suite production, task, judgment of answers as well as the results obtained by the participant systems.

For a long time standard desktop applications have ruled the market. Nevertheless, the availability of information has made the user demand new interaction techniques in completely different contexts and devices, but requesting the same functionality. With this new situation application design should be able to adapt to these differences. To design these adaptive interfaces the specification of these user interfaces should support plasticity at runtime. In this paper a first approach is proposed to support these plasticity features from a formal point of view within a model-based user interface design methodology. Connector paradigm is used to coordinate the communication between Concrete Interaction Objects and Abstract Interaction Objects in a flexible way enough to support adaptivity.
