The paper aims at exploring two dimensions of the European identity construction - as an open for debates project in which EU citizens deliberately decide to participate and as a power discourse serving certain economic and political goals. Reflecting on the works of Daniel Bell, Johannes Heinrichs and Reinhart Koselleck the research elaborates on these two aspects by analyzing the interaction between the cultural, political and economic sphere. It is claimed in the paper that when the European identity is formed as a project these three spheres remain relatively independent and following their own principles and speed of development. Dissimilarly, the ongoing process of discoursive construction of the EU identity stimulating citizens' emotional attachment to the Union is driven by the economic and political spheres and tries to artificially speed up the development of sense of belonging to the EU in the cultural sphere thus reminding of some of the characteristics of the ethnical Nation building model. In the second half of the 19th century significant socio-economic changes occurred in the whole Europe as a result of the bourgeois revolution. The need for change in lifestyle was also present in the Balkans and it was followed by a period of social modernization and emancipation in various fields. This paper focuses on the status of women and their role in a social change in the Serbian majority community, as well as in the minority Sephardic community in Serbia. The paper presents three theses which authors verify through theoretical study: that both Serbian and Sephardic women took an active part in the modernization of Serbian society, entering new roles and fighting for liberation from patriarchal constraints and thereby contributing to the emancipation and more equal position of women in society; that the emancipation was only partially achieved - Serbian and Sephardic women did gain more rights in certain areas of life, but patriarchal ideas and subordination of women were still dominanant; and that the lifestyle of Jewish women was not much different from the lifestyle of Serbian women because of similar social patterns which shaped their lives over history and made the process of their emancipation quite similar, except for the fact that there were additional obstacles that Sephardic women had to overcome in the process of emancipation. The paper discusses the role of basic science in the modern knowledge society and its relations to the applied research, development and innovation. The main conceptual models in this respect are also considered, as well as the evolution in science policy orientations of EU and USA. Further, the perspectives of so-called "frontier research" and "converging technologies" and their role for the "radical innovations" are presented. In the paper the author reviews basic tendencies of the global and national trade union movement and the influence of these trends on social partnership principles implementation and the trade unions adaptability to permanent changes in socioeconomic field. The author analyses foreign trade unions operational experience, detects development of the level of national trade-unionism and its place and role in European integration and globalization processes. In the beginning, we precisely define optimal currency area, and what is qualitative differency between the term Optimum currency area, and terms Currency area and Monetary union, that exists in the major of the European teritorry. In the second part of the paper we discuss major characteristics and assumptions needed to be fullfiled in order for currency area to be at the same time optimum currency area, too. In the third part we discussed deficiency of currecy area vs reasons to join it. Instead of conclusion we present briefly European experience in unique currency, as well as the issue is that particular currency area is at the same time optimum currency area. Sustainable development has become one of the burning issues on a global, local and individual levels as a result of climate changes, pollution, rapid development and changes in the global information, economic, industrial and business sectors and value systems. In this sense, education for sustainable development, as part of lifelong learning, has become one of the most important strategic and educational policy issues in Serbia. The aim of this paper is to highlight the potential of geography as a school subject, with special reference to the role of the subject matter of geoheritage and geodiversity in education for sustainable development. The aim of pointing the benefits of integrated and out-of-classroom approaches in teaching geography, which favour an active, experiential and exploratory approach to learning about geodiversity and geoheritage, is that students can acquire competencies in sustainable development. As outcomes of geography classes, competencies also represent a basis for raising awareness and increasing accountability and responsibility in individuals for preserving geoheritage and geodiversity as part of the Serbian national treasure. In the paper the models of socially-oriented economies are characterized. It is revealed the concept of social market economy and social functions of the state. The composition of social policy is determined. It is characterized such models of socially-oriented economies as continental, Anglo-Saxon, Scandinavian, Southern European, neoliberal and paternalistic. It is proved that the most successful version of the welfare state is a Scandinavian welfare model. It is conducted the comparison of the social economy models. It is defined the criteria by which models of the social market economy differ. It is proved that under current economic conditions a new paradigm of social policy that combines three forces: state, market and civil society. The article deals with the notion "the lender of last resort". First of all, it tackles upon classic interpretations of the LLR and the theories in the basis of the notion. It explores the evolution of the theoretical framework and touches upon practical experience. Basing on the works of the prominent contemporary scientists the article tends to answer the question of the kind of changes that caused the revision of the LLR theory and reasons why the question of the ECB as LLR is important nowadays. The article discusses the problems the EU and the ECB are currently facing, when the question of ECB as a LLR arises. The opinions of the prominent scientist on this topic are analyzed in order to understand the difference between the LLR for banks and for the governments, and the advantages and disadvantages for the EU economic stability. The text highlights main arguments of the scholars, who are in favor and those, who are against the ECB as an LLR both for the banks and for the governments and makes a conclusion on the perspectives of the ECB as an LLR. Abstract: In this paper the author discusses Boris Akuninʼs novel Altyn-tolobas. The two plot lines in the novel (the seventeenth-century journey of Kornelius von Dorn and the journey to the “new Russia” by his descendant) are shown to run parallel, as they both appear to involve the transfer from “civilized” European cultural space to “uncivilized” Russia. However, it is demonstrated that this simple opposition of “Russia” and “The West” is much more ambiguous and complicated than it might seem at first glance. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: In this paper the author discusses L.V. Nikulin''s travelogue The Seven Seas, published in 1936 and describing his journey through Europe in 1933. In the article Nikulin''s manner of writing is analysed, the use of digressions, of actual and fictitious meetings with several characters in different countries, the use of newspapers and periodicals. Ultimately Nikulin''s goal is to demonstrate the decay and rise of fascism in the European countries, set against the superiority of the young Soviet Union. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The paper deals with problems of using the Latin and French languages under the highbrows. Both languages functioned as a special means of conversation within the groups where they meant the group identity of the speakers. Russian Linguist E. D. Polivanov nominated such languages social group dialects. Latin was the language of the literate in the early Middle Ages and later till the 18th century. French served as a mean of communication of the social elite in Europe in 18th and 19th centuries. Modern financial crisis originated in the U.S. and spread to the entire world and so set great challenges for monetary policy around the world. Central banks around the world have responded decisively imposed unique challenges and timely actions to ensure market liquidity, reduce systemic risks and restore stability in the financial markets. The European Central Bank establishes and implements European monetary policy. In response to the crisis, the ECB not only significantly reduce the official interest rate, but also introduced a package of non-standard measures within the "enhanced credit support" and "Program of the securities market". Overall, the ECB's response to the global financial crisis can be seen through four different stages of the crisis: the period of financial tensions, intensifying financial crisis, the temporary improvement of conditions in the financial markets and the crisis of government debt.
