INDUSTRIAL management , *MARKET share , *ADVERTISING campaigns , *PRICES , *VIRTUAL reality , *FRUIT drying - Abstract
This study analyzes the influence of forming elements of a commercial strategy on simulated industrial companies. For that, from a virtual competition environment, a quantitative model was defined, capable of determining the impact of price, payment term and number of advertising campaigns on the percentage market participation of each player (competitor). The methodology is descriptive with a quantitative approach, using the "R" software and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator software, which estimated the impact of each of the variables considered. The sample was generated from data obtained in an industrial management experiment. The results show that the variable price little influenced the market share of the companies in analysis, on the other part, longer payment terms and investments in advertising campaigns appear as more representative. This paper analyzes the displacement of Brazilian exports of matching products by China in selected countries markets in South America: Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. These countries are relevant to Brazilian international trade, especially in manufactured products. The paper uses the Constant Market Share (CMS) methodology, with data from the period 2005 to 2019. The results indicate losses for Brazil in trade with the countries analyzed, while there are gains for China. Such losses are more significant in the periods 2005-2009 and 2010-2014, and in trade for Argentina. Still, the displacement of Brazilian exports by China is concentrated on Medium-Low and Medium-High technological intensity products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MICROBREWERIES , *SEMI-structured interviews , *LITERATURE reviews , *BREWERIES , *MARKET share - Abstract
This article is about existing innovations in special breweries in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. With the advent of the production of special beers, we sought to understand the innovations generated by the sector and also which innovation strategies are used. To reach the proposed objective, the study used a qualitative-descriptive research with literature review, use of a semi-structured script for interviews during visits to breweries and with content analysis to systematize the data. After analyzing the data, it was noticed that incremental innovations occur in breweries. In addition, evidence pointed out that to seek to expand market share, special breweries make use of step-by-step and customer-oriented innovation strategies, but there is the use of the process-specialized innovation strategy only by those market-leading breweries that have greater reach to financial resources, specialized labor and greater productive capacity. This work aims to verify the relationships among the following variables that involve operations and logistics activities: financial results, market share and stock levels. The theoretical framework addressed the following aspects: market share, stocks, pulled and pushed production, and the use of company games in surveys. The data collection took place through the use of a Logistics game with characteristics that simulate the conditions found in Brazil. As for the methodology, it consists of quantitative, descriptive and laboratory research. The procedure adopted was the analysis of correlations between variables, as presented in the hypotheses. The conclusion reached regarding the relation between stock levels and market share was a plausibly positive relation, although there might not have been any confirmation. We could not confirm the relationship between stock levels and financial results. This study contributes in a practical way by demonstrating how companies can use a scenario simulator to test logistics strategies, without risks of real impacts on their financial results and market share.

This paper investigated which junior enterprises of executive secretariat courses in Brazil work with event services, analyzing their characteristics and verifying their performance in the Brazilian event market. The importance of this study is due to the growing participation of the events market in the national economy according to ABRAFESTA (s.d.), highlighting the social and corporate event sectors, which are the types of events that account for the majority in the market; therefore, they represent an opportunity for several organizations in the industry, including junior enterprises. Through a qualitative approach, the junior enterprises that had events as a service in their portfolio were identified and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 3 collaborators from the following companies: Conset Consultoria, Excelência Jr. and SEC Jr. Consultoria. The results showed that the junior enterprises evolved in relation to changes, for innovating their portfolio and seeking markets outside the universities, expanding their services to compete for market share with the "senior" companies, as those companies' main focus in the brand expansion. This work aims to analyze the performance of Brazilian exports of the main Ornamental and Cladding Rocks (ROR), compared to world exports, addressing them in aggregate and disaggregated terms. The application of the Constant Market Share (CMS) model seeks to identify, in the 2004-2015 period, the main sources of growth in exports of goods in this sector and, thus, contribute to a better understanding of the factors underlying its external competitiveness. The results indicate that in the 2004-2007 and 2008-2011 sub-periods the growth of Brazilian exports in the sector, as a whole, was primarily due to the growth effect of world trade. Nevertheless, the composition and destination effects also had a positive influence. In these two sub-periods, the competitiveness effect was negative. For the 2012-2015 period, there is a significant change compared to previous periods, with the destination effect of exports being the main source of growth for Brazilian ROR exports. ECONOMIC indicators , *SCIENCE databases , *EMERGING markets , *FACTOR analysis , *MARKET share - Abstract
Objective: To analyze the scientific production related to the market performance in the high-tech market from 1997 to 2019. Method: Bibliometrics and systematic review methodologies were used. The search process was performed in the Web of Science and SPELL databases and resulted in the selection of 23 articles within the defined scope, among 82 studies. The selected studies were analyzed through descriptive statistics, Descending Hierarchical Classification (DHC) and Corresponding Factor Analysis (CFA). Results: The results point to recent interest in measuring performance in the hightech market, especially in emerging markets such as Taiwan and China, with the use of multidimensional indicators of a financial and non-financial nature. Through the DHC and CFA analyses, we have been able to observe four Classes - 'Internal Abilities', 'Alliances', 'Downstream Focus' and 'Upstream Focus' - and these dominant areas indicate the interest associated with market performance in the high-tech market. Originality/relevance: The study innovates by proposing a protocol to perform textual analysis of scientific articles with the aid of Iramuteq software, enabling the identification of different approaches of the studies and grouping by similarities. Contributions: We propose an agenda for future studies based on the results and gaps about performance and indicators used by companies in the high-tech market. From the managerial point of view, it is noteworthy that the most used indicators in this market are sales, market share and new product performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LOW-income consumers , *CUSTOMER loyalty , *RETAIL industry , *MARKET share , *CUSTOMER satisfaction , *COMPETITIVE advantage in business - Abstract
The retail industry has many challenges in competitive terms. Many believe that only the price is responsible for the satisfaction and consequent customer loyalty. However, the marketing tools can be used to differentiate and generate competitive advantage for participants in this sector. This is a study that measures the marketing elements impacts on low-income consumer satisfaction and its influence in relation to repurchase intentions. This study provides information that contributes to small food retailers seeking to improve market share in the low-income segment. A descriptive research was conducted in a city on the north of the country and through a survey we obtained a sample performed with 384 elements to measure the impacts on the satisfaction of individuals with low income by factors Product, Price, Point of Sale, Promotion and people. From the statistical analysis, it was found that the product factors, Promotion and Point of Sale influence statistically significantly customer satisfaction and satisfaction influences statistically significantly intend to supermarket customer repurchase. Although low-income consumers form the sample, the price factor does not influence the satisfaction of these consumers as well as the People factor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT This papaer analyzed the global MDF production and its concentration degree between 1995 and 2016. In order to measure and analyze this concentration, we used the Concentration Ratio [CR(k)], the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI), Theil Entropy Index (E), Hall and Tideman Index (HTI), the Comprehensive Concentration Index (CCI), and the Gini Index (G). Global MDF production grew 12.81% p.a. from 1995 to 2016, reaching 99 million m3 at the end of the time series. China took over the hegemony in 2001 and arrived in 2016 with about 60% of the world’s MDF supply. The CR(k) of the global MDF production inferred a high concentration, mainly in the CR(4) from 2009. The CR(8) remained with a moderately high average concentration. During this period more than 90% of the offer was retained in the CR(20). The HHI, E and HTI indices corroborate that there is high concentration in global MDF production, as well as the CCI in the studied period. The inequality indicated by G also presented increasing behavior and was classified as strong and very strong. The concentration indicators were efficient in evaluating the concentration degree of the world MDF supply.

DIVIDENDS , *STEEL industry , *DIVIDEND yield , *CORPORATE governance , *MARKET share - Abstract
This research studies the relationship between the variables of competitiveness and the dividend distribution in Brazilian enterprises of the steel and metallurgical industry. The data was collected from the database Economatica from traded companies of the steel and metallurgical industry listed in BM&FBovespa and qualified in some of their levels of corporate governance. Six companies, which met the criteria of the study, composed the sample. The hypothesis suggests that exits a significant and positive relation between competitiveness and dividend distribution. The competitiveness is measured through the market share, while the dividend distribution is calculated through dividend yield. The results of the research were product from a linear regression that showed that barely two out of the six companies in the study have a significant and a positive relation between competitiveness and dividend distribution. Therefore, it cannot be accepted the hypothesis. Moreover, others measured variables showed a significant and positive relationship with competitiveness. For future investigations, this research recommends to use other proxys to measure competitiveness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Assim sendo, uma operação cujo intuito consiste em alargar a dimensão das partes envolvidas, nem sempre apresenta um impacto positivo para ambas., Portugal’s growing exposure on the international scene has aroused the interest of several foreign stakeholders in the country, specially in what the banking sector in concerned. On one hand, the present Thesis’s focus on how the Portuguese banking system has been loosing market share and, on the other hand, how this phenomenon has allowed foreign banking entities to own the national banking system. Thereby, the acquisition of Banco Espírito Santo de Investimento (BESI) by Haitong Securities, carried out in 2015, is the case study used, as a basis for obtaining such outcomes. For this purpose, an analysis of the impact of the acquisition on the market share was performed for the two years following the acquisition, compared to previous year and the acquisition’s competition year, both for the acquired bank (BESI) and the acquirer (Haitong Securities). Based on the main empirical studies on mergers and acquisitions’ review, the impact of these operations seems to be not consensual between the companies involved, including the ones belonging to the banking sector. From a general perspective, the acquisition reviewed on the case study had an average positive impact, regarding the market share of the total assets, customer deposits and customer loans for the acquired financial institution, when compared to the pre and acquisition years. However, from the point of view of the acquiring bank, the average impact of the acquisition on the aforementioned variables is mostly negative, both in the previous year and the year of the operation. Therefore, a transaction for which the purpose is to broad the scope and the firm’s size for both stakeholders involved, does not always have a positive impact for both sides.

Despite the advances in studies on the effects of distribution channel strategies, the relation between distribution and market share is still a little explored topic, especially in emerging markets. For that reason, this paper’s core proposal is to investigate the relation between distribution and market share variables in the Brazilian market, specifically in the beverage sector, comparing two important types of consumer market channels: big and small supermarkets. For such, an empirical study was conducted based on a database with more than 180 stock keeping units (SKUs) sold by three manufacturers in the southeast of Brazil. By means of statistical analyses, the results indicate a convex and growing relation among the variables studied. In other words, there is an inflection point at which market share growth is more accentuated because of distribution. Furthermore, the curves that describe these variables show different effects when comparing big and small supermarkets.

- Abstract
The aim of this paper was to analyze technological advances in the manufacturing industry of the State of Paraná from the 2000s. The paper argues that technological advances were decisive for changes in the manufacturing industry from the 2000s. The theoretical framework employed was the Schumpeterian approach about innovation, and its impacts on the representativeness of each group of technological intensity. As methodological procedure, we used the collection of data on added value, employment, research and development, which were organized in tables and graphs for analysis. The results showed that the group which has the largest market share is the low technological intensity, between 2000 and 2012, because of the importance of the primary sector. This group is composed of the sectors of food and beverage, wood and furniture, paper and cellulose. There was also increased representation of the added value of the medium-high technological intensity group, which raised its market share in the period. In fact, highlighting the industry of automotive vehicles, trailers and semitrailers, the sector that contributed most to the transformations occurred in the State of Paraná. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, Ohlson’s Linear Information Dynamic (LID) is analyzed and the effect of other information on the abnormal earnings series is evaluated. The hypothesis that industry structure and market share have significant effects on abnormal earnings in the following period is tested, with Ohlson’s LID persistence maintained. The results confirm the premise of LID in a sample of Brazilian public firms, considering all the statistical models. The hypothesis regarding market share is rejected as its effect on the degree of abnormal earnings persistence has no informational content, either directly or jointly. Finally, the results confirm that different industries affect abnormal earnings persistence differently. In view of these results, the research hypotheses are partially rejected. It is concluded that (a) industry contains other information that can impact abnormal earnings for the following period and (b) market share (in isolation and together with industry concentration) does not imply differentiated impacts on firms’ abnormal earnings for the following period, and therefore do not reflect the presence of other information in Ohlson’s Model (1995).

The paper is an empirical analyze of some theoretical propositions that relate the firm capabilities and structure to its sectoral performance. The firm performance was measured by its profitability, market share, and indexes of productivity. The determinants of the firm performance were based on the main arguments of Edith Penrose, Alfred Chandler, Richard Nelson and Sidney Winter, and some propositions of Stephen Hymer and Raymond Vernon. These theoretical propositions guide the shape of the econometric models specific to each author. To test the econometric models, it was used a database with 4,498 manufacturing firms. The main results show the importance of the technological innovation, the external trade, and the economies of scale and scope as determinants of the profit asymmetries among firms of an industry.

The development and competitiveness in the pharmaceutical industry have attracted the interest of the literature given its importance for the economy and for health. In the Industrial Economics perspective, the potential competition that arises with patent expiration and generic entry have motivated several authors to identify the different deterrence strategies used by brand-name drug companies to secure and/or maintain their market position. Among them, we focus on pricing strategies. The purpose of this study is to understand the pricing strategy of brand-name drug companies prior patent expiration, and, how the price differences between the brand-name drug and its generic version influences the market share of the brand-name company. We implemented a contrafactual model “Interrupted time series” (ITS) to estimate the effect of generic entry on the price of brand-name drugs, through causal inference. Market share was analyzed by using the Ordinary Least Squares Method (OLS). The results show a downward trend in the price of brand-name drugs when they faced the threat of entry of a generic competitor. This downward trend extends over time. Regarding market share, there is indeed a market power transference to the generic drug. However, we cannot generalize the results obtained since the sample is not representative, it is limited to only 8 DCI.
