Food and alimentation are configured as cultural matters for decades, defined as fertile fields of culture. However, shortage has been narrated in a hegemonic way through the universalist rhetoric of biology and nutrition denying spaces for cultural analysis. This text addresses the genesis of such discourse, offering arguments for a culturalist approach to hunger and food shortages. We argue here for a project that is situated on the slippery slope between nature and culture, but that is equally necessary. Through various ethnographic works, we attempt to show how food shortages are also recreated through deeply cultural practices and ideologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyzes the movie "Okja" from the perspective of corporate sustainability through an observational study supported by film language. As a qualitative, descriptive, and documentary research, based on the concepts of sustainability, green marketing and green makeup, this paper aims to reflect on how the Mirando organization, from the movie "Okja", design their marketing strategies to disseminate sustainable image to remain competitive in the market. In the movie, Okja is one of the super pigs created by the agrochemical company Mirando to solve the worldwide food shortage problem. The plot unfolds with Mikha, the granddaughter of the farmer who bred Okja, trying to rescue her from Mirando, the company that developed the super pig. The film analysis made it possible to illustrate the practice of greenwashing by portraying Mirando's strategies by seeking to disseminate the false idea that its product is completely natural and non-transgenic, in an attempt to seek a new consumer niche with the discourse of being sustainable. The great advances of mankind, among them the technical-scientific milieu, with important discoveries of the 21st century, contributed to improvements in health and mitigation or cure of some diseases. Diseases are the great challenges of contemporary societies that present new demands and healing time, and globalization has brought advances and speed in decision making in the health-disease process. This article proposes to present an analysis on the situation of the residents of a small municipality in the Amazon, Ponta de Pedras, Pará, regarding the existence of diseases common to the inhabitants of the big cities. As a methodology, the article was based on a bibliographical research on the topic presented, and data from the field work at the Municipality of Ponta de Pedras, besides IBGE databases. As a result, a change in the food pattern of the local population, especially the rural population, is observed, justified by shortages of fish and lack of purchasing power for the purchase of other foods, such as chickens and meats. This change in the food profile, among other aspects, has caused diseases that are very common in large cities and metropolises, such as stress, obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes and high blood pressure, caused by fast food standards that interfere with the health of the population. The foreigner colonies formation in Paraná, during the XIX century, was explained by local historiography as motivated by the necessity of a supply agriculture and by one supposed food shortage. In order to support that argument, it was referenced the manifestation of a colonial enterprising: the Swiss Carlos Perret Gentil, founder of Superagui's Colony. The aim of this work is to run through his ideas about the European colonization and the Paraná's farming during the XIXth century, and the after appropriation of those accounts by Paraná's historiography, with the purpose of explaining and forming historical sense of the mentioned events.
