Objective: To evaluate the influence of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) on the bond strength of adhesive restorative materials to healthy and caries-affected dentin. Material and Methods: 04 electronic databases and 02 additional searches were assessed. In vitro studies considering sound or caries-affected human or bovine dentin (population), use of aPDT before restorative treatment (intervention), use of other dentin disinfection techniques (comparison), and bond strength to dentin (outcome) were included. The risk of bias for in vitro studies was used as a method to check the evidence. The method used to present and synthesize results was data extraction. Results: The total number of included studies was 11, including 550 permanent teeth. Bond strength was evaluated mainly through the shear bond strength (SBS) test, with dentin affected by caries being the substrate most frequently used in studies. Six studies demonstrated that aPDT with methylene blue (MB) negatively affected the SBS values of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) to dentin. Regarding risk of bias assessment, all studies were at high risk of bias. Conclusion: The effects of aPDT on adhesion to dentin vary depending on the type of substrate and the photosensitizer used. Mainly, MB negatively affected the SBS values from RMGIC to dentin. The conclusion should be interpreted considering the high risk of bias in the studies.

Objective: To find out what the acid-base resistant zone (ABRZ) is and the mechanism of its formation. Material and Methods: This systematic review was based on the search of laboratory studies in which self-etching adhesive systems were used. The electronic database PubMed was used for the search. The search began on August 2021 and ended on June 2022. We have analyzed the materials and methods of each research and entered them in the appropriate tables to give a clearer assessment of the obtained results. Results: This systematic review included 15 full-text articles published from 2011 to 2019. The ABRZ is formed on both dentine and enamel. On dentine, the ABRZ is formed only when using self-etching adhesive systems; on the enamel, on the contrary, the step of preliminary etch and rinse contributes to the formation of a thicker ABRZ. The functional monomer MDP and fluorine increase the thickness of the ABRZ and provide a hybrid layer /ABRZ boundary without defects and erosions. Conclusion: Self-etching adhesive systems ensure the creation of an ABRZ resistant to acid-base tests. This phenomenon can provide the resistance of tooth tissues to demineralization, and therefore increase their resistance to caries.

Objective: To evaluate the mineral density of enamel and dentin tissues of healthy individuals using three-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography. Material and Methods: CBCT images of 15 healthy individuals, previously obtained for various reasons, were used in this study. In HU measurements, mineral density measurements were made from three different regions of enamel and three different regions of dentin, and the values obtained were compared. Enamel and dentin mineralization density measurements were measured from six regions, namely the crown cutting edge, buccal middle and cervical region for enamel, and the crown cutting edge, cervical region and root apex for dentin. The adhesive process, by the conventional method, in dentin, has been shown to be flawed in several aspects that leads to less durability of restorations with composite resins, among them, there are problems that approach the use of phosphoric as a conditioning agent. In this perspective, new alternative conditioning agents are suggested, among which phytic acid stands out, which has potential in this applicability, in addition to being a chelator of dental tissues, among other properties. This study aims to evaluate Phytic Acid as a dentin conditioning agent, through an integrative literature review, analyzing its properties, resistance and biomodifying effect. A search was carried out in the PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science and Scielo databases, using the descriptors registered in the MeSh “Phytic Acid”, “dentin”, their Entry Terms were also used, and combined between si by the Boolean operators AND and OR. A total of 198 articles were entered, which, after applying the eligibility criteria, left 7 articles for qualitative synthesis. Literary data show that phytic acid, when used for the treatment of dentin, resulted in less collagen degradation, it demonstrated good efficacy in removing the smear layer, improved the ultimate tensile strength, preventing the collapse of collagen fibrils. collagen, thus improving conditioning, as it increases the resistance of the restoration. Abstract This study evaluated the influence of non-thermal argon plasma applied to dentin on the shear strength of two adhesive systems. Ninety tooth fragments were embedded in epoxy resin and distributed into experimental groups (n=15): G1 and G4 - adhesive systems applied according to the manufacturers’ instructions; G2 and G5 - dentin treated with non-thermal argon plasma for 30 seconds before hybridization; G3 and G6 - dentin treated with non-thermal argon plasma for 30 seconds after hybridization. Cylinders were made with composite resin in the adhesive area, and the specimens were submitted to the shear strength test. Higher values were observed when applying the plasma treatment after hybridization (G1: 26.51 MPa, G2: 29.22 MPa, G3: 30.27 MPa, G4: 22.66 MPa, G5: 28.33 MPa, G6: 29.32 MPa). The treatment with non-thermal argon plasma significantly increased the shear strength values regardless of the application time.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in arresting dentin caries lesions when applied under different concentrations and times. Material and Methods: Forty-two bovine blocks were selected and fixed in 24-well plates. Each well received a mixed bacterial inoculum added to the culture medium with 5% sucrose. The plates were incubated in microaerophilia (7 days) for caries formation, confirmed by micro-CT (M1). SDF was applied over the carious lesions for different times and concentrations (n=6): SDF 30% - immediate removal, 1 minute and 3 minutes; SDF 38%, - immediate removal, 1 minute and 3 minutes. The group without treatment was the control. Then, the samples were again scanned by micro-CT (M2) and submitted to a second cariogenic challenge for 21 days. Then, a final scan was performed (M3). Results: Mean pH at the culture medium and lesion depth were compared using Kruskal-Wallis and Wilcoxon tests. 38% SDF showed the lowest metabolic activity of the biofilm. All 38% groups and 30% 1 and 3 minutes did not show an increase in mean lesion depth comparing M3 with M1. However, only 30% 3 minutes and 38% 1 and 3 minutes showed a significant reduction of lesion depth. Conclusion: The minimum application time of 30% SDF to arrest dentin caries lesion was 1 minute, while 38% SDF arrested with application and immediate removal.

Introduction: Caries disease has a multifactorial etiology and can affect the entire tooth structure. In deep cavities, expectant treatment can avoid damage to the pulp. In early lesions, the ART technique is an acceptable alternative. Objective: To discuss indications, contraindications, techniques, and clinical relevance of the expectant treatment (conventional and modified) and the ART technique in the treatment of carious lesions. Methods: A literature review of scientific articles (published in PubMED/Medline and Scielo databases, between 2009 and 2020) and books considered relevant to this study. Results: In the expectant treatment, carious dentin is removed in two stages: a superficial removal of the carious lesion at the first visit, and a final removal after different time intervals. However, some authors argue that it is not necessary to perform the second step. Just lower the glass-ionomer cements and then perform the definitive restoration, a technique known as modified expectant treatment, is necessary. Regarding the ART technique, the management of the lesion is conducted with the least possible intervention, using only manual instruments. It is reliable and well accepted especially in the Pediatric Dentistry clinic. Both culminate in favorable therapeutic results. Conclusion: Initially, the dentist must always carry out a thorough diagnosis of caries lesions aiming at the maximum prevention of the dental structure. Objective: To compare the capacity of silver diamine fluoride (30%) and the bioactive giomer light-curing varnish for arresting ICDAS score 5 non-retentive caries lesions. Material and Methods: An in vitro analytical study was conducted using 36 healthy primary teeth, in which a cavity was created, divided into 3 groups: control (distilled and deionized water), giomer-based light-curing varnish - Barrier Coat, and Silver Diamine Fluoride 30% – Cariestop (SDF). The samples were analyzed for mineral loss as measured by surface microhardness (SMH). The Knoop microhardness test was performed using the HVS-1000 microhardness tester. The data were compared by two-way analysis of variance – treatment and time (before and after treatment) followed by Tukey's post-test. The significance level adopted in all analyzes was 5%. Results: The specimens treated with giomer showed higher SMH compared to the untreated group but were similar to those of the SDF group. The SDF group, on the other hand, showed no statistically significant difference from the control group (p=0.010). Conclusion: The giomer varnish had a remineralizing effect on artificial dentinal caries.

Objective: To investigate the difference of chemical bonds between urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) bonding agents with ethanol solvent and acetone solvent on dentin collagen. Material and Methods: This experimental comparison study used three groups: G1 (Control): UDMA and collagen; G2: UDMA, collagen and ethanol; and G3: UDMA, collagen and acetone. The groups were then pelleted and analysed with FTIR, then the peak value of carbonyl absorption band from each study group was calculated. The result of FTIR analysis and the peak of carbonyl absorption band (P) was calculated using the formula: P = (BC / AB) X 100; AB. BC is measured in centimeters. The study of chemical bond differences between ethanol-solvent UDMA agents compared with acetone-solvent on dentin collagen resulted in a graph of peak of carbonyl absorption bands of UDMA and dentin collagen groups. To determine the chemical bonds of UDMA from the top of the carbonyl ester absorption bands with wavenumber absorption in range 1700-1750 cm-1, the decreasing peak of the carbonyl absorption bands is assumed as more chemical bonds that formed. Access to the pulp cavity is the stage of endodontic treatment that aims to expose the mouth of the root canals. For a long time, creating a straight path to the canal, with the complete removal of the pulp chamber roof, was the ideal cavity format. However, in recent decades, excessive dentin wear, which makes it possible to reduce tooth strength, has been investigated. So, a new access cavity format, which allows the maximum possible preservation of the support structures, was proposed to increase the resistance of endodontically treated teeth. Despite the advantages supposedly attributed to minimally invasive accesses, this format has been questioned for hindering the visibility of the entrance to the channels, the location, and the possibility of leaving untouched areas on the walls of the channels. Therefore, this work carried out a bibliographical survey to verify the scientific consistency regarding the interference of coronary access in dental resistance. The minimally invasive access showed no difference regarding increased fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth compared to the traditional access. A beautiful smile is often considered to have an important role on people’s lives, since it contributes to self-confidence and social relationships. Therefore, dental discrepancies such as conoid teeth could affect negatively one’s life and, as long as the patient desires, intervention should take place. Conoid teeth have significant alterations of basic anatomy, size and shape, which lead to a non-proportional smile. This case report regards to a reshape of a conoid lateral incisor, using direct composites, in order to help the orthodontic work. The chosen technique to provide this reshape was developed by the Styleitaliano® group, in order to simplify the restorative steps, using only three composite shades (one for dentin, one for enamel and one for optical effect). This case report emphasizes that different dentistry areas, such as Cosmetic Dentistry and Orthodontics must perform together in order to achieve good results, especially in cases that require shape changes.

It is known that the tooth submitted to endodontic treatment presents an increase in dentinal permeability, due to the removal of dentinal mud, through the use of auxiliary chemical substances (SQA). Therefore, a marked morphological alteration can leave the dentinal surface without mineral support, which can compromise the filling. Thus, the selection of the SQA in relation to the cementing material is fundamental for a perfect adhesion to the dentinal walls. Objective: to evaluate in vitro the level of dentin permeability of auxiliary chemical substances most used in endodontic treatment, in the root dentin of bovine teeth. Material and methods: 40 roots of bovine specimens were used, which were divided into four groups (n = 10) and irrigated according to the experimental conditions: G1 = 15 ml of 0.5% sodium hypochlorite (control); G2 = Endo-PTC cream association and 15 ml of 0.5% sodium hypochlorite; G3 = 15 ml of 17% EDTA-T; G4 = 15 ml of 10% citric acid. Then, the root canals were filled with 2% methylene blue dye, with ph 7.2, for 24 hours. Then, the specimens were cross-sectioned into three 2 mm thick fragments, for reading on a stereoscope, with a 25-fold magnification. The quantification of the level of dye infiltration was performed using a mathematical formula. Results: after the statistical analysis, the results proved to be statistically significant. The adhesion of the composite resin to the dentin occurs by the formation of the hybrid layer. Thus, its degradation causes loss of union resistance on interface resin / dentin interface, directly influencing the longevity of the restoration. After the acid etching and the application of the adhesive system into demineralized dentin, collagen fibers not involved by adhesive system get unprotected and susceptibles to attack by metalloproteinases (MMPs). The enzymes, present in the dentin itself, are rehabilitated by phosphoric acid or by the acids monomers of the self-etching adhesives initiating degradation. The application of chlorhexidine (CHX) in the dentin, after acid conditioning, prevents or slows down the degradation of the collagen fibers of the hybrid layer. This literature review sought to clarify the effect of MMPs on the degradation of the hybrid layer and the effects of chlorhexidine on the adhesion process. It was concluded that the adhesive bonding to dentin decreases with the passage of years due in part to the action of MMPs, which degrade collagen not infiltrated by adhesive monomers in the deepest part of the hybrid layer. In addition, the use of chlorhexidine as a therapeutic inhibitor in conventional adhesive systems is capable of inhibiting the MMPs and thus the adhesive bonding to the dentin can be kept stable for a longer period of time. Abstract Introduction Convencional resin cements can be used in combination with a total-etch system in a conventional mode or as self-adhesive resin cements. The latter are less technique sensitive and able to bond to dental tissues without previous treatment or adhesive layer and requires only a single step to be applied to dental structures. Objective To compare qualitatively the adhesive interfaces of two self-adhesive resin cements and one conventional resin cement after different tooth surface treatments under scanning electron microscopy. Material and method 42 crowns of bovine incisors were sectioned and flattened exposing enamel (E) or dentine (D) substrate. Subgroups were defined according to conditioning type and time: E1—no treatment, E2—37% phosphoric acid for 15 seconds, E3—37% phosphoric acid for 30 seconds; D1—no treatment, D2—37% phosphoric acid for 5 seconds; D3—11.5% polyacrylic acid for 15 seconds. A resin block was bonded to each substrate using the self-adhesive resin cements RelyX U100 (3M ESPE) and RelyX U200 (3M ESPE). As a reference hybrid layer, six resin blocks were luted with RelyX ARC and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose adhesive system (3M ESPE) (enamel—EA; dentine—DA). After aging for 7 days in a moist environment at 37±1°C, samples were prepared for microscopy analysis. Result and Discussion In the ARC specimens, there was hybrid layer formation in both EA and DA. U100 E1 showed gaps at the adhesive interface, while E2 and E3 showed interaction for both self-adhesive cements. There was superficial interaction with bothU100 and U200 in D1, while in D2 and D3, resin tags were only observed in the case of U100. Conclusion It was concluded that substrate conditioning may enhance the interaction between self-adhesive resin cements and dental tissues, although this is not the case for RelyX U200 and dentine.

Abstract Introduction Glass-fiber posts are used in order to improve the retention of restorations in endodontically treated teeth. Objective To evaluate the bond strength of glass-fiber posts submitted to different surface treatments and cemented to the root canal dentin with self-adhesive resin cement. Material and method Thirty roots of human canines were prepared and divided according to two factors: surface treatments (silane, 35% hydrogen peroxide, or sodium bicarbonate) and root thirds (cervical and middle thirds). The glass-fiber posts were cemented with self-adhesive resin cement (RelyX U200). After 24 h, the specimens were prepared for microtensile bond strength test (hourglass format), fracture pattern and micromorphological assessment by scanning electronic microscopy, in order to measure the cement line. Resumo Introdução Os adesivos autocondicionantes apresentam técnica adesiva simplificada e diminuição na sensibilidade pós-operatória. Quando aplicados sobre a dentina, atuam sobre a smear layer, cuja efetiva remoção ainda constitui um desafio. Uma substância utilizada como pré-tratamento dentinário na ajuda da remoção da smear layer é o etilenodiamino tetracético dissódico (EDTA). Objetivo Avaliar os efeitos do EDTA em associação com sistemas adesivos autocondicionantes na resistência de união ao microcisalhamento. Material e método Foram seccionadas as superfícies oclusais de 72 terceiros molares humanos extraídos, para expor superfície dentinária plana. Os dentes preparados foram divididos em: dentina sem pré-tratamento; dentina tratada com EDTA 0,1M; dentina tratada com EDTA 0,5M. Cada grupo recebeu tratamento de três sistemas adesivos autocondicionantes: Single Bond Universal (SBU), AdheSE (AdheSE) e Clearfil SE Bond (CSEB). Foi delimitada a área adesiva e assim posicionada uma matriz transparente, para inserção com resina composta Z250XT seguida de polimerização por 40 segundos. Após 24 horas de armazenamento, os dentes foram submetidos ao ensaio de microcisalhamento. Abstract Introduction Adhesive technology has been developed quickly since its introduction about fifty years ago. Its goal is to produce a close contact within enamel and dentin. Failures in this process could result in microleakage, and allow the infiltration of bacteria, fluids and ions. Recent studies have been shown the use of chlorhexidine associated with adhesive systems can be able to inhibit the bacteria action. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the addiction of different percentages of chlorhexidine to a self-etch adhesive. Methodology The solution of digluconatechlorhexidine was increased to the primer of the two pass self etch adhesive to create a 0.5%, 1.0% and 2.0% chlorhexidine primer solution and after they were distributed in four groups (G1, G2, G3 and G4). Saliva samples (N=10) were used to test bacteria activity. Result They were spread in a blood medium with filter paper disks containing the different treatments. After the incubation, the inhibitions halos formation were evaluated. Conclusion This study demonstrated that, in vitro, the addition of different percentages of chlorhexidine digluconate to the self-etch adhesive induced inhibited halos at bacteria of saliva samples, independent from their concentration.

Introduction: the adequate endodontics access is essential for efficient placement of root canals, mechanical-chemical preparation, and root canal filling. In addition, it avoids complications such as instrument fracture inside the canal, anatomy deviation and perforation of the roots. As an alternative to Traditional Endodontic Cavities (TEC) has been reported in the literature the Conservative Endodontic Cavity (CEC) with the proposition of preservation of pericervical dentin and pulp chamber ceiling, to provide gain of mechanical resistance for the teeth submitted to endodontic treatment. Objective: to carry out a review of the literature on minimally invasive endodontic access and its influence on endodontic treatment. Methods: search for scientific articles in Google Academic, Scielo, Bireme and Pubmed databases, including publications in Portuguese, English and Spanish . In this way, we also compare the influence of the traditional endodontic TEC and CEC access to the root canals, being divided into topics: Access to pulp bed, placement of root canals, auxiliary mechanisms in minimally invasive endodontic access, root canal instrumentation and mechanical resistance the fracture. Conclusion: CEC can compromise root canal localization, impede instrumentation and do not offer a significant increase in tooth resistance after endodontic treatment, emphasizing the importance of further studies. In endodontics, chelating substances are indicated for smear layer removal. This study evaluated, by micro-shear, the bond strength between composite resin and dentin surfaces treated with EDTA (17%) and chitosan (0.2%). The palatal, mesial and distal walls were removed from 30 crowns of bovine teeth, to expose buccal dentin of coronary chamber, whose abrasion produced the smear layer. The surface was treated, considering 3 groups (n = 10): G1 (control) distilled water (1min); G2 EDTA application (3 min) and distilled water (1 min); and G3 chitosan application (3 min.), distilled water (1 min.). All groups received 2 ml of NaOCl (2.5%), 2 ml of distilled water (1 min), and then stored in distilled water (37 °C). After that (24 h), 3 Tygon matrix (1 mmX1 mm) were fixed to the dentin after surface storing them with a two-step adhesive system. Then, the matrixes were filled with composite resin, and once photoactivated, the matrix were removed resulting in cylinders that were submitted to micro-shear bond test in universal test machine. The results (MPa) were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey, with significance level of 5%. It was observed that G2 and G3 bond strength were statistically equivalent (p> 0.05), but significantly higher than G1 (p <0.05). It is concluded that chitosan and EDTA resulted in similar bond strength under the conditions tested. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: with advent and creation of the laser apparatus in 1960 by Theodore Harold Maiman and posterior use in Endodontics in 1971 with Weichman, several potential applications were created for the use of lasers. This study allows the clinician a better understanding of the use of the laser in dentistry more specifically in the endodontic area. Objective: the objective of this study is to show the use of laser equipment in the endodontic area in the following modalities: Pulp diagnosis, pulp capping, pulpotomy, preparation and root canal cleaning, sterilization of root canals and photodynamic therapy (PDT), root canal irrigation, Smear layer removal and parendodontic surgery. Method: a critical literature review. Conclusion: this study provides evidence that laser equipment can be considered and used as an alternative instrument that can complement or replace some of the conventional endodontic treatments. Objective: To determine the relationship between dental fluorosis (DF) severity and fluoride [F] concentration in tooth and water in DF endemic areas. Methods: Life-long residents from two DF endemic communities were studied. Forty-five extracted teeth were collected and analyzed for DF severity and tooth [F]. Thylstrup-Ferjeskov Index (TFI) was used to measure DF severity and instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) for tooth [F] concentration. Water from regional wells was also collected (n=9) and analyzed for F content using specific ion F electrode. Results: Water [F] varied between 0.2ppm and 4.7ppm. TFI scores ranged from 0 to 6; [F] from 120ppm to 2,140ppm in enamel and 304ppm to 4,800ppm in dentin. No correlation was found between DF severity and [F] in enamel (rs=0.22,p=0.15) and dentin (rs=-0.19,p=0.20), nor between water [F] and [F] in enamel (rs=-0.09,p=0.65) and dentin (rs=-0.11,p=0.56). Weak correlation between DF severity and water [F] (rs=0.38,p=0.04) was found. Linear regression analysis showed that TFI couldn’t be predicted from a linear combination of the independent variables (age, enamel and dentin [F]). When enamel, dentin and water [F] were used as independent variables in the linear regression (predict DF severity), only water [F] showed influence in DF severity (p=0.013;t=2.67). Conclusion: Even in areas of endemic DF, tooth [F] didn’t correlate with DF severity and the relationship between water [F] and DF severity was very weak. Therefore, tooth [F] may not be a good predictor/indicator of DF severity.

Objective: The proposal at this work is to evaluate, the standard of etching of the dentine after the application of acidulous primer of a self etching adhesive system (Clearfill Liner Bond 2) using SEM. Method: Preparations cavities were done on 5 human molars, as follows: For each tooth, 2 preparations with diamond tip , 2 with drills carbide in low rotation and 2 with CVDentus tip were done; they received a type of treatment: without acid etching, acid etching with acid phosphoric 37% for 15s and application of acidulous primer. The specimens had been analyzed in SEM, where images were enlarged to 200, 2000 and 5000 times. Results: In the cases prepared with CVDentus tip, the smear layer with appearance of flakes, was noticed; in addition to that we also noticed the presence of exposed dentin tubules. On the preparation with diamont tip conventional and drill carbide the smear layer presented a more compacted form. For the cases that CVDentus tip were used, a smear layer with flake aspect was present besides the presence of displayed dentin tubules. In the conventional preparations (diamont tip) smear layer presented residues in dentine intertubular. Conclusion: For this analysis we can affirm that with the use of the CVDentus tip and the application of primer acidulous we have the smear layer less adhered, with a standard of different etching.

Objective: To evaluate the bonding longevity of one-step self-etch adhesive systems to dentin, after solvent evaporation with warm or cold airstream. Material and methods: Clearfil 3S Bond and OptiBond All-In-One adhesives were applied on flat dentin surfaces, solvent evaporation was performed with a warm (60±2 °C) or cold air (20±2 °C), the surfaces were light cured (600mW/cm² during 10 s), and blocks of composite resin were built (3 x 2mm). After storage in distilled water (24-hour at 37 °C), the samples were sectioned into 0.8 mm² sticks and tested in tensile (0.5 mm/min) at 24-hour and 6-month periods. Two sticks from each experimental group were prepared for nanoleakage observation of the bond interface. The mean bond strength values of experimental groups (in MPa) were subjected to a three- way Analysis of Variance and post-hoc Tukey's test (5%), using tooth as the experimental unit. Results: Higher bond strength was observed with warm air (p=0.000) for solvent evaporation, and 24 hour of water storage (0.003. No significant differences were observed for both the adhesive systems (p=0.343) and interactions. Conclusion: The bonding durability was influenced by the air temperature for solvent evaporation. Dentin hypersensitivity - DH is characterized by an acute and short-duration pain caused by the movement of fluids into the dentinal tubules that are exposed to the oral environment. Recently, the use of lasers has been proposed as an alternative for the treatment of DH. This study conducted a literature review based on papers published between 2009 and 2016 about the use of low and high intensity lasers for the treatment of HD. The database PubMed was consulted, using the following keywords: dentin hypersensitivity, laser, Nd : YAG, Er:YAG, GaAlAs, Er, Cr:YSGG, CO2, HeNe, and hydrodinamic theory. It was observed that the treatment of DH with lasers can be a biocompatible, non-invasive, and efficient method. The low-intensity lasers (HeNe and GaAlAs) stimulate nerve cells in the pulp tissue, interfering with the polarity of the cell membranes by increasing the amplitude of the action potential, that inhibits the transmission of stimuli to the central nervous system. It stimulates the odontoblasts to produce reparative dentine, which decreases dentin permeability and impairs the movement of fluids into the dentinal tubules. The high-intensity lasers (Nd:YAG, Er:YAG, Er,Cr:YSGG and CO2) obliterate the dentinal tubules by direct irradiation of dentin that is exposed to the oral environment, promoting the dissolution and resolidification of hydroxyapatite crystals, leading to elimination of pain sensitivity for a long period. It can be concluded that the high and low intensity lasers are effective for the treatment of cervical dentine hypersensitivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: the adhesive dentistry had its beginning in the enamel etching. With the rapid development of new products, in vitro tests have become valuable to compare the UK adhesives to enamel, dentin and other substrates - in immediate or long-term analyzes to evaluate the bond durability. Objective: to evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) of all-in-one adhesives on different substrates after a week storage in distilled water. Methodology: seventy five bovine incisors were used and obtained 25 samples of uncut enamel/UE; 25 of cut enamel/CE; 25 of dentin/DE; more 25 of Filtek Z350XT/ XT. Five adhesives were applied, and divided into 5 groups (n=5): [1]37% phosphoric acid + Single Bond 2/SB adhesive control; [2] BeautiBond/BB; [3]Bond Force/BF; [4]One SE/SE; [5]Single Bond Universal/UN. Four Tygon tubings were positioned on the substrates and filled in with Filtek Z350 XT Flow. After 20s VLC, the tubes were removed to expose 4 specimens for each sample (20 cylinders per group). After a week in distilled water 37°C, the specimens were tested in an universal testing machine. The tensile load resulting in shear was performed on the basis of the cylinder at a speed of 0.5 mm/min. The results were expressed in MPa and analyzed by Anova (p<0,001) and Tukey test (p<0.05). Results: comparing each substrate, there was no difference for the UE and the CE. To dentin, the SE and the UN resulted in higher SBS. For the composite substrate, the higher SBS was observed in UN. Comparing the substrates, the SBS was lower to some adhesives in UE and DE. Conclusion: the all-in-one adhesives are substrate-dependents. The highest SBS was obtained for the UN in the composite substrate, and lowest SBS mean to BF in dentin substrate. The SBS in CE and XT was more stable, when compared to other substrates.
