The present article proposes to analyze the transmedia capacity of VTubers, content creators, independent or under agencies, who interact with the audience via a virtual 2D or 3D avatar generated by computer graphics and controlled by human movement capture. For the course of this work, through the perspective of a marketing strategy composed of collective construction, the analysis found an opportunity to prove that, through the use of moe sentiments, kawaii aesthetics, and incentives towards the participative culture of other social actors, VTubers have the ability to expand their media market beyond that of their original live streams in media platforms. To prove such a hypothesis, case studies of the current portfolio of cultural products from Hololive, one of the biggest international VTuber agencies, and of the consumer/fan productions of these content creators under the Hololive brand were promoted. Other than proving the initial hypothesis, the results show that the agency’s interface with the consumers/fans, constructed via providing infrastructural and financial incentives by the company, takes it to promising corporate results, indicative that such actions represent the birth of a new transmedia perspective.

DIGITAL transformation , *POPULARITY , *ORGANIZATIONAL communication , *HYPOTHESIS , *NARRATIVES - Abstract
The article discusses the growing popularity of collaborations between virtual influencers as a visibility, exposure and engagement strategy for organizations. With the advantage of a certain control of the narrative over what they “say and do”, virtual influencers have been chosen as a way to transmit their brands’ values and key messages. However, it is always worth an ethical, critical and reflective look at the transparency of who these figures are. The basic methodology of the text is bibliographical research, but also exploratory and essayistic. The exploration exercise proposed here allowed us to construct hypotheses so that considerations could be made about the relationships between digital transformations and consumption, advantages and points of attention of collaborations between virtual and real influencers. Abstract This study aims to present evidence for the validity of the Over-indebtedness Protection and Risk Scale (OPRIS). The instrument was constructed to assess attitudinal aspects (behavioral, cognitive, and affective) that prevent or encourage over-indebtedness, considered a serious social problem. Four hundred and forty-four adults participated in the online version. Exploratory Factor Analysis revealed the presence of two factors: protection against over-indebtedness (13 items) and risk of over-indebtedness (21 items), with good levels of adjustment. Criterion validity showed that both factors differentiated groups in terms of self-perceived stress, financial concern, presence/absence of debt, and consumption profile. OPRIS is considered to have the potential to help formulate public policies aimed at addressing the phenomenon of over-indebtedness.

The Free Word Association technique was used with the objective of knowing the perception of consumers about inspected and non-inspected cheeses and their main drivers. Participants residing in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, were recruited online and invited to list the first four words and/or expressions that came to their minds when faced with images of uninspected homemade cheese and inspected cheeses, both artisanal and industrialized. All valid words were grouped by semantic meanings in dimensions/categories, and those cited by at least 5% of the participants were analyzed using the chi-square test of independence, considering 5% of the meaning. There was no statistical relationship (p0.05) of acceptance or rejection between the three types of cheese, most words related to feelings were positive for all products analyzed. For uninspected homemade cheeses, consumers’ perception is linked to traditional forms of production, mentioning words such as colonial, artisanal, homemade, and familiar; the correlation of these cheeses with cultural habits and forms of consumption is also strong. The artisanal inspected cheeses were associated with the words industrialized, standardized, label, packaging, and expensive, clearly linked to industrial manufacturing processes, greater consumer safety and greater added value. For inspected industrialized cheeses (mozzarella), the words pizza, snack, melted, and delicious indicate good acceptance and refer to gastronomy. The findings reveal that the perception of inspected cheeses is directly related to quality and control, which is not the case for non[1]inspected cheeses, related to traditional production and cultures.

ARTIFICIAL intelligence , *SOCIAL networks , *ALGORITHMS - Abstract
Consumer society is characterized by consumers' insatiable desire to acquire more and more material goods. With the migration from the physical environment to the digital realm and the influence of algorithms (AI), consumerism has taken an even larger role in people's lives. Therefore, the aim of this article is to investigate how the algorithms (AI) used in Instagram advertising strategies stimulate impulse purchases. To achieve the established objectives, an exploratory and descriptive method was adopted, with literature research and field research using a questionnaire (survey) as the chosen technical procedure. Through the research, it was possible to identify, among the respondents, that the digital environment has altered their buying behaviors, intensifying impulse purchases. This is because algorithms personalize the content displayed in social media feeds, especially on Instagram, and enhance advertisements, resulting in conversions. Another aspect observed was the respondents' perception of algorithms, as they believe that excessive content personalization can create a kind of "bubble", limiting people's ability to discover new products and ideas that can expand their horizons. Since food choices involve classifications and symbols that cover their consumption with an ethical and moral character, the objective of this paper is to analyze media consumption convocations of vegetable meat. Based on the theoretical-methodological assumptions of French Discourse Analysis, we aim to study some different processes of discursive production materialized in the communication of media actors that convoke for this product consumption, such as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) linked to animal rights and brands that produce vegetable meat. We will observe the discourses in dispute and the different discursive strategies mobilized by these actors in media scenarios that promote the consumption of vegetable meat. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Piracy plays an ambiguous role: it creates jobs for people on the margins of the formal market and offers affordable products due to the high taxes on the originals. This raises ethical complexities in the consumption and organization of pirated products. Thus, the aim of this article is to understand how the daily practices of the pirate market are organized in the commercial center of Fortaleza, Ceará. The study used systematic observations, field diaries and in-depth interviews. It uncovered a set of cunning practices, including mafia aspects, subsistence strategies and camouflage tactics, which shape the pirate market. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The interest in social justice and sustainability issues in the fashion industry has grown exponentially in recent years, given the concern for the worldwide preservation of the natural goods that remain on the earth and the valorization of professionals in the production chain. Slow fashion emerges as a relevant movement in this context. It seeks to slow down the mass industrial production of the fashion area that is currently known by overriding the valuing of quality and people who work throughout the production chain to the detriment of quantity and exploitation of natural resources. This paper aims to verify whether the five dimensions of the Consumer Orientation to Slow Fashion (COSF) scale fit satisfactorily to Brazil and then draw profiles of slow fashion product consumption in this exact scenario. Thus, we planned and applied a virtual questionnaire using the COSF scale with 414 volunteers from Brazil. We treated the collected data by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, k-means, structural equation modeling, and analysis of variance. As a result, we observed that the COSF scale did not thoroughly adjust to the Brazilian context. Thus, we identified three orientation profiles for slow fashion consumption: averse to exclusivity, highly, and low orientation.

Chile’s specific form of capitalism has given rise to a class of financial consumers who navigate a consumer society with low incomes but easy access to credit. As a result, being in debt has become a common expectation in Chilean society. In this study, we conducted 46 in-depth interviews with indebted financial consumers to examine the practices, materialities, and moral and social evaluations surrounding credit and debt. We explored how these concepts are reinterpreted and domesticated in a context where indebtedness is deeply entrenched. Through our analysis, we identified three interrelated processes: (1) moral operations that allow for the separation of credit from debt; (2) the redefinition of prices, values, and materialities through various credit practices used by financial consumers to survive in a precarious consumer society; and (3) the subjective evaluation and categorization of debt levels, which subverts conventional quantifications and categorizations of debt. Our findings demonstrate how financial consumers can unmoralize indebtedness and redefine credit, providing opportunities for counter-agency, collectivization, and politicization of indebted subjects. This article contributes to the discussion on the meaning of debt, provides insight into the financialization of everyday life, and offers a perspective on installation and participation in a consumer society from the viewpoint of subordinated subjects in the Global South.

After having been excluded for a long time in the fashion consumer market, in recent times fat women seem to be finally conquering space, with the emergence of a variety of initiatives, such as fashion weeks, beauty contests, fashion brands and scientific events aimed specifically at the fat public in Brazil. Considering consumption as central in the definition of the identity of the contemporary subject, our objective in this article is to analyze the growth of the women plus size fashion market, evaluating its weaknesses and strengths, and especially its influence on the formation of the identity of the plus size woman. For this, we undertook a bibliographic review of authors who deal with consumption, body, capitalism, identity, and fat body and plus size fashion: among them Polain (2013), Jimenez (2020), Sassateli (2012), García-Canclini (2010), Bauman (2008), Aires (2019), MCracken (2003). We also conducted documentary research on journalistic articles and advertising pieces. As an empirical method, we observed the plus size fashion market in the city of São Paulo from 2019 to 2020. The objective of the present study was to investigate the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on consumer behavior. The focus was in the cities of Macaé and Rio das Ostras, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In-depth interviews were conducted guided by a semi-structured script. There were 15 interviews. The results showed that, before the pandemic, in-person purchases were made quite frequently, while online purchases were less frequent. Because of de pandemic, there were changes in consumer behavior. Many interviewees increased their hedonic consumption and consumption, which used to be mostly face-to-face, became online or through delivery. Some important criteria in making a purchase decision were: price, following the Ministry of Health's recommendations, product quality, free shipping, other customers reviews, and delivery time. Most respondents intend to continue shopping online even after the pandemic, because of practicality or different options and price comparisons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

/// Adolescents participate in social networks on a regular basis as a new space for leisure and entertainment among this group, with little awareness of responsible use. The purpose of this study was to analyse the consumption of digital media and social networks in young people, as well as to assess their influence on the family and socio-educational environment. The research, of a cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational nature, was carried out with the participation of 104 students of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) from an educational centre in the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, by means of the completion of a Likert scale questionnaire. From the results obtained, it is evident that there are significant differences in the use of social networks, according to gender and that there is a evidence of a relationship between their perception of digital competence and participation in social networks; on the other hand, adolescents do not perceive risky behaviour, as well as the possibility of having conflicts in their socio-family environment due to their participation in social networks.

ABSTRACT Cassava by-products are abundant and largely unused in familiy agro-industries in the Amazon region, where slow-growing broilers are commonly raised. Thus the incorporation of cassava by-products in broiler feed may provide starch enrichment for better zootechnical performance. We evaluated the use of cassava residues instead of corn in the diet of slow-growing broilers. We determined the chemical composition of cassava scrapings (CS) and cassava starch residue (CSR), and tested the digestibility of the residues in 192 broilers and three treatments: inclusion of 30 g kg-1 CS or CSR and a control without residue, with eight replicates of eight broilers each. Digestibility was assessed through collection of total excreta from 19 to 22 days of age. Apparent and corrected metabolizable energy, and apparent digestibility coefficients of dry matter, crude protein and crude energy were significantly higher for CSR than CS. Therefore, only CSR was used in a performance experiment using 324 broilers 30 to 90 days old, distributed in four treatments (0; 6.8; 13.4 and 20 g kg-1 CSR in feed) with nine replicates of nine broilers each. There was no significant difference among treatments in weight gain, feed intake, yield of carcass, breast and viscera, meat color, luminosity, pH, shear force, cooking-weight loss and drip loss. As there was a significant reduction in feed conversion and thigh and drumstick yield for 20 g kg-1, we suggest the incorporation of CSR up to 13.4 g kg-1.

Losing weight is one of the most common desires among the population with obesity, overweight and even by people influenced by the media and the standard of a "perfect body". To achieve weight loss, different diets are used as a strategy: low carb, intermittent fasting and high protein are some examples. In this context, the work proposed to evaluate in the scientific literature the use of proteins in the weight loss process, considering the frequency and possible damage caused by the high protein diet. As a methodological strategy, a bibliographic mapping of works published between the years 2006 and 2022 was carried out in Pubmed/MEDLINE and Science Direct data sources. The descriptors used in the searches were: proteins, weight loss, dietary strategies and consumption, words extracted from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). The Boolean operators "AND" and "OR" were used to establish the relationship between the keywords in the searches. The results found showed that the use of protein was efficient in weight loss in conjunction with physical activity and a balanced diet. It was concluded that protein is efficient in the weight loss process, contributing to eutrophy, even though there is no unanimity about dosage and intervention time, emphasizing that the diet must be balanced and accompanied by healthy habits that involve physical activity and consistency. ABSTRACT This study approached the consumer preference and characteristics of eggs from various categories sold at supermarkets in Rio de Janeiro. The study was performed in three phases. In the first one, 180 'caipira' eggs were randomly acquired from three supermarkets considering the consumers’ socioeconomic profile (middle, upper, and lower class). In the second phase, 456 eggs from conventional, free-range, 'caipira' and omega-3 enriched categories were obtained without considering the socioeconomic condition. After the acquisition, the eggs were taken for further analyses made the next day. The last phase was based on the perception and prevalence of consumers found in the second stage. This time, 443 consumers answered a Google Forms questionnaire. 'Caipira' eggs sold at supermarkets frequented by upper-class consumers maintained a better quality. When social class was discarded as a criterion, eggs from 'caipira', free-range, organic, and omega-3 enriched systems showed inferior quality compared to conventional eggs. The consumer preferences indicated that much misinformation regarding technical aspects of egg production persists, despite the increasing consumption of this protein source. In addition, the study revealed that many consumers still think there are hormone inputs in poultry farming, and they know very little about the production process or the differences among the egg categories for sale at Brazilian supermarkets.

This article represents a part of the findings of my doctoral research on the relationship between pregnancy and consumption. What I present here aims to discuss the imperative of visibility as a condition of existence in contemporary times. In conjunction with the imperative of performance and the entrepreneurial logic that permeates our existence, we witness what I called pregnancy-ostentation. A new way of managing, being and being in the world, which is reflected in the lives of babies since their intrauterine life. In this context, pregnancies imbricated by consumption, cause babies to be born even before delivery. Babies exist as images, also mediated by objects and mediated in their intrauterine lives. Pregnant women would be responsible for taking care of the project of a new life, making every effort to ensure that the results are successful, as recommended by the contemporary pedagogy of pregnancy.

Abstract This special issue of Cadernos EBAPE.BR sought to provoke a reflection focused on uncertain consumption practices in an uncertain future. While prior marketing and consumer research has explored consumer practices framed by an institutionalized, known, and more or less predictable context, the set of articles approved in this edition reveals different nuances. From experiential accounts of grief to the role of music in coping with the struggles of isolation to the overlap of social roles, these papers may help us to reflect on what we can do together, as a society, to tackle the challenges brought by COVID-19 not only at the local level but also globally.

Abstract The phenomenon of watching live online music events became popular during the COVID-19 pandemic as a leisure activity practiced at home while social distancing. For 3 months, they were part of the routine of Brazilians and foreigners, before exponentially losing their audience. This trajectory is the object of research for this paper, studied under the prism of practice theory to understand the elements that form this consumption practice, its synchrony with other everyday practices, and external phenomena that act in the consolidation (or not) of a practice. In-depth interviews were conducted with 24 practitioners, and the results were analyzed through a thematic analysis. The findings provide clues as to why the practice declined, emphasizing the overlapping of practices belonging to the routine created during social distancing and the reduction of the initial originality (understanding) of more intimate lives that get lost in the search for innovations in practice. Possible developments in the future of post-pandemic live events and theoretical and managerial contributions are also discussed.

DRUG utilization , *SELF medication , *MEDICAL prescriptions , *PHARMACEUTICAL industry , *SYMPTOMS - Abstract
Self-medication is practiced by a large part of the population as a behaviour, defined as the use of drugs without a medical prescription, in which the individual determines the drug and dosage that will be used by himself. Despite being a routine action, it can present risks and health problems, such as masking diseases symptoms, side effects and intoxications. This practice can be influenced by pharmaceutical industry marketing in order to increase sales. In this context, the objective of this research was to evaluate the profile of the practice of selfmedication by inhabitants of a city in the southwest of Bahia and how marketing influences their consumption behavior. A cross-sectional research with a quantitative approach was carried out in Vitória da Conquista - BA. The collection was carried out in person with 100 participants during the month of October 2022 through the application of a questionnaire containing 15 questions. The results obtained showed that 90% are adept at self -medication, 75.5% of these due to headache. Although 59.8% declared that previous prescriptions are the main reason for self-medicating, 42% have already bought medication because they saw it in advertisements and 54% believe marketing influences their drug consumption. Based on this, it was noticed that the prevalence of self-medication in the study sample is high, which indicates the need for different rules on pharmaceutical marketing, aimed at promoting the rational use of medicines.
