Resumo: Este artigo apresenta resultados de projeto de pesquisa que objetivou identificar representações no jornalismo online a respeito de ações e políticas públicas voltadas à população em situação de rua. A pesquisa, realizada no âmbito dos estudos críticos do discurso (VAN DIJK, 2009; FAIRCLOUGH, 2010; VIEIRA; RESENDE, 2016) e da análise interdiscursiva de políticas públicas (RESENDE, 2018; FISCHER, 2016), considerou a Folha de S. Paulo (em sua plataforma digital, em folha.uol.com.br) para compor um corpus abrangente das notícias publicadas sobre a população em situação de rua em um período de três anos. A composição do corpus considerou as palavras-chave ‘(morador)(a)(es)+(de rua)’, ‘(pessoas)(população)+(em situação)/(de rua)’, aplicadas ao buscador do veículo jornalístico. A categoria analítica que orientou o mapeamento dos dados no software NVivo foi a metáfora (CHARTERIS-BLACK, 2004). Neste recorte, o foco específico são metáforas espaciais utilizadas para representar os deslocamentos e permanências da população em situação de rua na cidade em textos tratando de ações e políticas públicas. As análises apontaram que sentidos metafóricos nesse corpus têm efeito de justificativa para ações e políticas públicas desumanizantes da população em situação de rua. Abstract: This paper presents results of a research project aimed to identify representations in online journalism regarding actions and public policies towards the homeless population. The research, carried out within the context of critical discourse studies (VAN DIJK, 2009, FAIRCLOUGH, 2010, VIEIRA; RESENDE, 2016) and the interdiscursive analyses of public policies (RESENDE, 2018; FISCHER, 2016), considered Folha de S. Paulo (in its digital platform), to compose a comprehensive corpus of the published news about the homeless population in a period of three years. The composition of the corpus considered the Portuguese language keywords ‘(morador)(a)(es)+(de rua)’, ‘(pessoas)(população)+(em situação)/(de rua)’ applied to the journalistic vehicle search tool. Metaphor (CHARTERIS-BLACK, 2004) was the analytical category that guided the mapping of data in NVivo software. In this paper, the specific focus are metaphors used to represent the displacements and permanences of the homeless population in the city, in texts thematizing actions and public policies. The analyzes pointed out that metaphorical meanings in this corpus have a justification effect for dehumanizing actions and public policies aimed at the homeless population. Resumo: Este trabalho tem por objetivo investigar, em perspectiva longitudinal, o processo de constituição de construções de contraste com agora (português) e de construções de contraste com now (inglês) que expressam oposição semântica. À luz dos percursos de mudança atravessados por essas construções e de um quadro teórico que atribui à pragmática o papel de força motriz da mudança (TRAUGOTT; DASHER, 2002), busca-se reunir evidências do papel dos contextos e da polissemia no desenvolvimento de novos juntores contrastivos. Para tanto, desenvolve-se um estudo diacrônico dos contextos que fornecem condições para as mudanças de agora e de now, que atuam originalmente como advérbios temporais. Os resultados mostram, em conformidade com Traugott (2012), que, se o desenvolvimento de novos juntores envolve gramaticalização, e não apenas mudança de significado, têm papel chave contextos que aliam motivações para reinterpretação semântico-pragmática a motivações para reanálise categorial. Além disso, a análise diacrônica permite reconhecer um amplo conjunto de similaridades entre a trajetória de agora e a trajetória de now, apontando para a produtividade translinguística da fonte temporal como canal de derivação para significados contrastivos. Abstract: This paper aims to investigate, in a longitudinal perspective, the historical development of contrastive constructions with agora (Portuguese) and of contrastive constructions with now (English) that express semantic opposition. In the light of the paths of change undergone by these constructions and of a theoretical framework that assigns to pragmatics the role of the chief driving force in change (TRAUGOTT; DASHER, 2002), the paper searches for evidence of the role of contexts and of polysemy in the development of new contrastive connectives. For this purpose, the research develops a diachronic study of contexts that provide conditions to the changes undergone by agora and by now, which are originally temporal adverbs. The results show, in accordance with Traugott (2012), that, if the development of new connectives involves grammaticalization, and not only meaning change, contexts that ally motivations for semantic-pragmatic reinterpretation and motivations for categorial reanalysis play a key role. Moreover, the diachronic analysis shows a great amount of similarities between the path of change undergone by agora and the path undergone by now, pointing to the productivity, across languages, of the temporal source as a derivation channel for contrastive meanings. This paper explores the quest for an account of the ‘total linguistic fact’. Speech act theory, sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology and social semiotics have all attempted, in various ways and at various times, to find a way to describe as much as possible that is going on around any speech event. While this search for the total linguistic fact will always be a chimerical goal, this paper proposes a framework based on the acronym SEMIOSIS as one way of grasping the complexity of what is at play, comprising social relations, emotional and sensorial engagement, mobility, Iterative activity, objects and assemblages, socio- and translingual practices, interactivity, and spatial repertoires. Looking at data from a small Bangladeshi-run store in Tokyo, the paper shows how bringing in this wider set of concerns at least allows for a more comprehensive account of sociolinguistic moments.

The thesis of this paper is that laziness is not a psychological property of an individual subject but a collective sentiment: it is a reaction, or perhaps even a rebellion, against those who lock us within a culture that sees activity as a supreme value, often as an end in itself. Laziness is the response to those who force us to do and overdo, to give ourselves over to our occupations with zeal and constancy, total dedication and blind perseverance. So, it is not true that a lazy person does nothing, rather they do everything they can in order to not do anything. They work frantically in order to create the perfect conditions that allow them to activate their inertia. This paper tries to prove this thesis by analyzing some exemplary texts such as Goncharov's Oblomov, and linking it, upstream, with traditional Russian fairy tales and, downstream, with Melville Bartleby's famous tale.

This paper presents the phonological vowel systems of 16 Chibchan languages, according to existing descriptions. Its purpose is to provide a basic and systematic overview of the vowel systems found in this family. For each language, the distinctive features needed to distinguish the vowel phonemes are discussed, as well as their phonetic realizations when this is relevant. Whereas the phoneme classification is uncontroversial for many of the languages, there are also some Chibchan languages that have been subject to very different analyses over the years; in these cases, a more thorough discussion is provided. At the end of the paper, the Chibchan vowel systems are compared from a quantitative perspective.

Kamsá is a language isolate spoken in the Sibundoy Valley in the Putumayo department of southern Colombia. Its speech community lives on the eastern slopes of the Andes Mountains, between the linguistic areas of the Andes and the Amazon. This paper presents various grammatical features of Kamsá, including its phonology, nominal morphology (especially noun class and case marking), verbal morphology (especially person/number marking for core arguments and evidentiality), morphosyntactic alignment, and syntax (including discussion of causatives, comparatives, and subordinate clauses). In doing so, the paper places Kamsá within its typological and geographical context, between the Amazon and the Andes.

The conjunction como si select usually in the subordinated adverbial clauses (modal, conditional and comparative) the tenses of the subjunctive mood cantara / cantase and hubiera / hubiese cantado. However in some papers is mentioned the possibility of the construction of como si with the tenses of indicative mood. This paper contains the analysis of the modal selection after como si and, particularly, the possible substitution of subjunctive by the indicative tenses. The analyses is realized on the ground of the corpus of Real Academia Española (CORPES XXI, CREA, CREA. Versión anotada).

This paper discusses teacher-room interaction in a community of practice (WENGER, 1998) of student teachers of English as an Additional Language, focusing on the dyad requests for help—offers of help, which often take place in the community. The community was affiliated with extinct Languages without Borders in a large university in south of Brazil. The research is affiliated with the paradigm of practice theory (YOUNG, 2009) and uses qualitative and interpretive methodology (ERICKSON, 1990; Mason, 2002). It is possible to conclude that the kind of teacher-room interaction presented in this paper greatly contribute to student teachers’ professional development throughout their trajectory in the community.

This paper addresses a new approach to prepositions in primary and secondary education, particularly in upper secondary school. For that purpose it is recommended that the heterogeneity of the language system, linguistic variation and Sociolinguistic Theory should be discussed in the classroom. Then, the paper presents a variationist study of the possibility of alternating prepositions. The paper proceeds with the proposal of constructing an approach to this grammatical component for upper secondary school pupils. The conclusion resumes the importance both of linguistic research to the teaching of Portuguese and of an appropriate teaching methodology to avoid prejudice in relation to language varieties not acquired at school.

Para representar el mundo hispánico, invitamos a la académica uruguaya Virginia Bertolotti, cuyas contribuciones en el ámbito de las investigaciones sobre las formas de tratamiento en el español hispanoamericano son de gran importancia y con quien hemos cruzado camino en los eventos y proyectos sobre el tema al que se orienta esta publicación.

Este número Formas e fórmulas de tratamento do mundo hispânico, luso e brasileiro sistematiza resultados de alguns trabalhos apresentados no III Congresso Formas e fórmulas de tratamento do mundo hispánico e luso-brasileiro (IIICFFT), realizado na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, entre 7 e 9 de maio de 2018. Os artigos, em geral, estão relacionados à análise histórica e diacrônica do tratamento e à reconstrução diacrônica a partir da sincronia variacionista, duas das temáticas propostas no Congresso. Os resultados apresentados buscam discutir aspectos sócio-históricos, geográficos e estilísticos envolvidos no uso das fórmulas e formas de tratamento, bem como algumas correlações dessas formas com clíticos e formas verbais imperativas com foco especialmente no português.

Este artigo apresenta uma análise do sistema de tratamento na posição de sujeito, evidenciado em 91 cartas pessoais baianas produzidas entre 1906-2000 por sertanejos pouco escolarizados. A amostra foi editada por Santiago (2012), que, a partir do estudo de Marquilhas (2000), caracteriza os redatores como “inábeis”, isto é, escreventes situados em fase inicial de aquisição da escrita. Nesse sentido, busca-se contribuir com o mapeamento do sistema pronominal da língua portuguesa, descrevendo, em um corpus representativo da variedade português popular brasileiro (PPB), a alternância entre as formas de referência à segunda pessoa do discurso, identificando as estratégias que condicionam os usos das formas de tratamento pelos remetentes das cartas através da Teoria do Poder e Solidariedade (BROWN; GILMAN, 1960). Sendo assim, esta pesquisa encontra-se inserida no âmbito da Linguística Histórica sócio-histórica (MATTOS E SILVA, 2008a), que contempla os fatores extralinguísticos, ou sociais, e os intralinguísticos, e da análise através do aparato metodológico da Sociolinguística Variacionista (WEINREICH; LABOV; HERZOG, 2006 [1968]; LABOV, 2008 [1972]). De acordo com Lopes e Cavalcante (2011), com base em Scherre et al. (2009; 2015), o português brasileiro (PB) é constituído por três subsistemas de tratamento na posição de sujeito: (I) você, (II) tu, (III) você – tu. Os dados analisados revelaram na amostra o emprego das formas tratamentais o/a senhor/a, vosmecê, você e tu. Entretanto, demonstrou-se vigorar nas cartas de sertanejos baianos o subsistema tratamental exclusivo de você, que se comporta como estratégia mais solidária, empregada especialmente em relações sociais do tipo simétrico.

O objetivo do trabalho é apresentar os resultados de um experimento realizado em Lisboa para detectar o valor social assumido pelas variantes tu e você no português europeu. Um teste de julgamento de aceitabilidade das formas de segunda pessoa em variação na posição de sujeito foi realizado com 34 participantes portugueses seguindo o modelo realizado por Oliveira, Lopes e Carvalho (2016) com falantes do Rio de Janeiro. O objetivo do experimento foi analisar a percepção que os falantes do PE teriam das estratégias de tratamento empregadas para estabelecer uma comparação entre PE e PB. A proposta estabelece uma interface entre a perspectiva Sociolinguística laboviana (WEINREICH; LABOV; HERZOG, 2006 [1968]) e a Sociopragmática (BRIZ, 2004) por um viés experimental (KENEDY, 2015). Os resultados do experimento em Lisboa evidenciaram, diferentemente do que fora observado no Rio de Janeiro, um alto grau de aceitabilidade de tu nos diferentes tipos de interação controlados. O mesmo não se verificou para a variante você, que incitou nos participantes um comportamento mais vacilante durante o julgamento, principalmente, quando a forma aparecia como sujeito focalizado. Os resultados mostraram ainda que a forma verbal de 3SG, como sujeito nulo, não seria uma correlata da variante você, pois apresentou aceitação positiva nas relações assimétricas, o que não ocorreu necessariamente com o você explícito.

Para representar o mundo luso e brasileiro, fizemos uma entrevista com o professor e linguista Carlos Alberto Faraco, destacando suas contribuições aos estudos sobre os pronomes de tratamento no português, disponibilizadas em especial em seu texto clássico O tratamento você em português: uma abordagem histórica, publicado pela revista Fragmenta em 1996 e recentemente reeditado pela revista LaborHistórico (v. 3, n. 2, 2017).

Estudos sobre formas de tratamento na história do português costumam mencionar a data de 1666 como primeiro registro de ocorrência da forma Você. Essa informação, tradicionalmente aceita pela literatura e usualmente realizada a partir de Cintra (1972) e Faraco (1996), faz referência à obra Feira dos Anexins, de D. Francisco Manuel de Melo. Embora seja muito divulgado, esse texto ainda permanece desconhecido por parte dos especialistas. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste artigo é dar a conhecer o texto de Melo, assim como problematizar a datação da nova forma de tratamento Você.

Neste artigo, apresentamos algumas evidências históricas (séculos XIX e XX) da atual realidade sincrônica variável do imperativo de 2a pessoa do singular (vem vs. venha). Com base em cartas pessoais oitocentistas e novecentistas redigidas por brasileiros cultos cujos perfis sociolinguísticos (filiação, faixa etária, nível de escolaridade, profissão) foram levantados (CONDE SILVESTRE, 2007; HERNÀNDEZ-CAMPOY; SCHILLING, 2012), comprovamos a preferência dos missivistas cariocas pelas construções imperativas associadas ao subjuntivo, acompanhando a forma nominativa de referência ao sujeito de 2a pessoa do singular (você). Comprovamos ainda que as construções imperativas vinculadas às formas de indicativo em contexto de alternância tu/você-sujeito (cartas mistas) figuram como contextos de influência intermediária, em termos probabilísticos, na aplicação da regra variável em análise. Isso significa interpretar que as cartas em que também há o você-sujeito (tu/você-suj.) parecem expor rastros históricos do imperativo abrasileirado já em amostras escritas do século XIX como uma repercussão da inserção do você no sistema pronominal (cf. LOPES, 2007; LOPES & CAVALCANTE, 2011).

The present paper brings the treatment given to the content of linguistic variation in the collection of Portuguese language textbooks Novas Palavras (2016), by Emília Amaral, Mauro Ferreira, Ricardo Leite and Severino Antônio. We make up our argument based on studies on language teaching in a socio-interactionist approach and on the guidelines contained in the official documents for this teaching approach, as well as on studies on Sociolinguistics and Teaching, which understand that language is a heterogeneous system and hold that the school should promote a linguistic education of appreciation of Brazilian linguistic plurality. This is a qualitative study structured in bibliographic review and content analysis of the textbook collection. This paper presents theoretical discussions necessary to teaching the topics on linguistic variation in two chapters of the textbook 1, however, the chapters dealing with grammatical issues maintain a more conservative and normative approach.

In the field of diachronic syntax, we present in this article a diatopic-diachronic mapping of second person verbal complements, focusing on the dative forms, in personal letters written in Brazilian Northeast in both 19th and 20th centuries. This mapping allows us to systematize arguments in favor of the hypothesis that innovative forms of BP grammar are first implemented in the Northeast when compared to the Southeast and South in the vast Brazilian territory. Results demonstrate that, in the Northeast, forms associated with the pronoun você are more recurrent for verbal complements in the accusative, dative and oblique functions, in general, and that, for the dative forms, in particular, (1) te is significantly infrequent while lhe has been implemented in the pronominal system since the beginning of the 20th century; and (2) the frequency of null and of prepositional forms (preposition + “você/tu”) has significantly and gradually increased during the 20th century. These results contrast with those found for the Southeast and South of Brazil, especially in the time frame in which these changes are implemented.

This paper aims to problematize the very place of prosuming images (TAPSCOTT; WILLIAMS, 2007), that is, images simultaneously produced and consumed, within the perspectives of the postmodern and the visual turns in contemporary society. Of qualitative/interpretative nature, it discusses and connects such turns to the philosophical concepts of dialogism (BAKHTIN, 1981), cultural translation (MIGNOLO; SCHIWY, 2002; MENEZES DE SOUZA, 2004; HALL, 1997), supplements (DERRIDA, 1978), and visual culture (ROGOFF, 2002; HALL, 1997) by means of interpretations of photographic images from social media (Instagram, Facebook) and free images from websites. The article is divided into 5 sections: after the introduction in which questions of language, representation and visual meaning making are briefly discussed, the second part explores the dialogic nature of language that seeks to juxtapose visual narratives. The third part focuses on the Postmodern and the Visual turns, and suggests that concepts of cultural translation and supplementation are paramount in visual studies. In the fourth section, visual culture – intertwined with cultural translation - is analyzed through the concepts of supplements and ruptures. To conclude, this paper advocates for more critical ways of understanding the so-called crisis of representation in (post) modern society.

This paper discusses the centrality of the labor sphere as an exclusive dimension of social integration, mainly for those who are imprisoned and need to prove that they are capable of being integrated into the job market in order to reduce their penalties. Michel Foucault perceives the labor dimension as a political force that subdues man, contributing to adjust them to a working disciplinary society. Social beings must identify themselves as workers in order to believe that they can achieve the best social positions, be protected from marginality, violence and aggression. The discourses about the centrality of work in the legal criminal system promote work as a possibility of social inclusion, reinforcing power strategies that contribute to criminalize and exclude the ones who are not employed. This paper studied some of these discourses that reinforce the essentiality of work, questioning their positivity, denouncing them as a source of social discipline and conformity.

Este número Interfaces da Prosódia é um desdobramento do número anterior, Fala, voz e expressividade. O grande número de textos recebidos nos fez perceber o interesse que os estudos prosódicos têm suscitado no Brasil e a dimensão desta área relativamente recente de estudos da fala. Como bem retrata Ladd (2014), no capítulo “O que é prosódia?” os termos “prosódia” e “prosódico/a” têm, a partir de 2002, uma inflexão de sentido nos dicionários, registrando o que marca uma grande massa de trabalhos linguísticos, pscianalíticos, psiquiátricos e mais tarde de tecnologia da fala. No Brasil, temos o privilégio de contar com a publicação pioneira de Scarpa (1999) que congrega nove estudos dentro dessa área incipiente, e que se consolida com a organização do congresso internacional Speech Prosody 2008, em Campinas - Brasil.

This paper proposes an innovative approach to the analysis of fiction texts through the combined means of three points of view, viz. FSP, discourse subjects (DSs) and their cohesive chains, and cohesive ties. It explores the theme of metamorphosis of the characters as it appears in all the three examined aspects, and the influence the metamorphosis exerts on them. Three main problems are discussed in the paper. Firstly, it deals with unexpected tokens in the identity chains of the DSs undergoing the metamorphosis and the cohesive ties through which they are incorporated in these cohesive chains. Secondly, it addresses seeming abrupt switches between two thematic progressions which in fact form just one progression. Lastly, the paper discusses the function of the features detected in the texts in relation to the complexity of the idea of metamorphosis.

Child-directed speech, also referred to as motherese, has some specific prosodic patterns that attract the baby to interaction and contribute to the entrance of the baby into the universe of language. Under this perspective, this quantitative and qualitative, cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the relation between the prosodic patterns of maternal speech and the constitution of the mother-baby interactive process, as well as discuss the importance of this early experience to the language acquisition process. Data collection was performed through a semi-structured interview with mothers and audio and video recording of the mother-baby interaction. The results obtained from the maternal speech spectrograms, analyzed in PRAAT® software, and from the baby’s reaction show that the mother ideates her child as a dialogical partner, and that both are attracted by the specific prosodic properties of motherese, given by decreased speech rate and increased vocal range, which reveals that maternal prosody performs a linguistic function since the early months of life. It is expected that this research will support the acknowledgement of maternal prosody’s relevance to mother-baby interaction, through which it is possible to follow the linguistic development of the baby, in addition to enabling the early detection of disturbances.

Attaching a set of keywords has become a norm, or a convention at least, in most academic publications. Surprisingly, these prominent items, encoding the Global Theme of academic discourse and fulfilling numerous other functions, have yet to receive adequate linguistic attention. In syntactic terms they tend to be rather uniform, realized mostly by isolated nouns or by noun phrases (Pípalová 2017). This paper seeks to explore their in-text use (iteration) and FSP standing in authentic research articles. The work, which is part of a larger study, is framed in terms of two objectives. Firstly, it looks at varying frequencies of keyword items and at their distribution across the diverse parts of research articles. Secondly, examining both their explicit and implicit realizations, the paper strives to verify their thematic status in individual sentences. Established on a specialized corpus of recent academic articles drawn from peer-reviewed international journals, the paper attempts to balance quantitative and qualitative research and to correlate the operation of keywords at micro- and macrotextual levels. The results of the study should enrich FSP research and may also have practical relevance for Academic writing courses.

Trata-se do capítulo 3 de Simultaneous structure in phonology, composto de seis capítulos: (1) Gesto, traços e autossegmentos, (2) Fonética na fonologia, (3) Definindo prosódia, (4) Modulações, (5) Sobre a dualidade da padronização e (6) Eventos fonológicos (segmentação, eventos simultâneos e paralelos).

This work describes the intonation of yes-no questions and Wh-questions and their corresponding assertions. The corpus is based on Spanish utterances read in Spanish by four speakers: two L2 Spanish speakers from Brazil and two L1 Spanish speakers from Spain. The work is based on preceding descriptions from Navarro Tomás, 1944; Moraes 1998; Sosa, 1999; Cunha, 2000; Cantero, 2002; Moraes J., 2006; Hidalgo Navarro, 2006; Moraes, 2008; Estebas Vilaplana & Prieto, 2009; Barbosa, 2012; Frota, 2013; Ferreira de Sá, 2013; Silva, 2016. The results show that the most frequent pattern for yes–no questions has rising movement on the prenuclear region and on the nuclear region. For Wh-questions, the predominant melodic movement is falling. The assertions are characterized by a rising prenuclear contour with a peak generally on the pre-nuclear tonic or post-tonic syllable, followed by an F0 fall along the utterance and a nuclear stress at a medium or low level followed by a low F0. Regarding the duration criterion, in yes-no and Wh-questions, the four informants present similar strategies: they shorten the prenuclear region as well as the nuclear pre-tonic syllables and lengthen nuclear tonic and post-tonic syllables. For the assertions statements, it is observed that the Brazilian informants shorten the prenuclear pre-tonic and post-tonic syllables and lengthen the tonic ones. The Spanish informants, in turn, lengthen pre-nuclear pre-tonic and tonic syllables and shorten post-tonic ones. For the nuclear region, the four informants present similar strategies, thus lengthening tonic and post-tonic syllables.

Resumo: Nesse estudo discutiremos a gênese textual (Genética de Textos) de discursos reportados (DR) identificados em processos de escritura e seus respectivos manuscritos escolares, produzidos por uma dupla de alunas do 2º ano do Ensino Fundamental. A partir do protocolo de coleta de dados proposto pelo Sistema Ramos, foram filmados 10 processos de produção de contos etiológicos inventados por essas alunas. As alunas deveriam combinar um conto etiológico inventado e, posteriormente, a dupla escreveria o conto em uma folha de papel. Na primeira parte deste estudo, descreveremos as ocorrências de DR relacionando produto e processo de escritura. Na segunda parte, analisaremos o processo de construção do DR a partir do processo de escritura do conto inventado. Mostraremos que a baixa ocorrência de DR no enunciado escrito em relação ao DR proferido oralmente dá-se em razão do processo genético de construção da narrativa inventada a dois. O DR inscrito na folha de papel é o resultado de uma série de formulações/reformulações ativadas através do diálogo entre as alunas. Essa dinâmica parece ter favorecido a dimensão inventiva da narrativa ficcional e, ao mesmo tempo, a própria produção de unidade de sentido da trama narrativa, colocando em relação as vozes das alunas/narradoras e as vozes dos personagens. Abstract: In this study we will discuss the textual genesis (Genetics of Texts) of reported discourses (DR) identified in writing processes and their respective school manuscripts, produced by a pair of 2nd year of elementary school. From the protocol of data collection proposed by the Ramos System, 10 processes of etiological tales invented by these students were filmed. The students should combine an etiological tale invented, and later the pair of students would write the story on a sheet of paper. In the first part of this study, we describe the occurrences of DR relating product and its writing process. In the second part, we will analyze the process of DR construction from the process of writing a etiological tales. We will show that the low occurrence of DR in the written enunciation in relation to DR uttered orally is due to the genetic process of construction of the narrative invented by two students. The DR inscribed on the sheet of paper is the result of a series of formulations/reformulations activated through dialogue between the students. This dynamic seems to have favored the inventive dimension of the fictional narrative and, at the same time, the very production of unity of meaning of the narrative plot, putting in relation the voices of the students / narrators and the voices of the characters. Abstract: A Standard Arabic (SA) complementizer known as 'inna poses a restriction on word order in the clause it introduces and induces accusative Case-marking on the otherwise nominative preverbal NPs. Following Chomsky’s (2001) account of the morphosyntax of Case, this paper argues that 'inna is a Case assigner and thus it carries an uninterpretable Case feature that determines the value which it assigns to an unvalued Case feature concerning accessible goal within A-bar projection. The paper shows that this argument captures the restriction imposed on 'inna-clauses. Keywords: Arabic; complementizer; Case marking; word order; minimalism. Seguindo o modelo de Chomsky (2001) para a morfossintaxe de Caso, este artigo argumenta que 'inna é um designador de Caso e que ele carrega um traço de Caso não interpretável que determina o valor que o mesmo designa para um traço de Caso até então não marcado de uma meta acessível na projeção de A-barra. Resumen: El objetivo de este trabajo es ofrecer un repaso historiográfico por la evolución de dos signos ortográficos que suelen suscitar bastantes dudas de uso: el punto y coma y los dos puntos. En particular, se someten a análisis tres obras sobre ortografía publicadas por la Real Academia Española en 1741, 1844 y 2010. Como conclusión destaca que el único uso que la edición de 1741 incorporaba para el punto y coma ha permanecido hasta la actualidad; en cambio, en los dos puntos se observa divergencia entre el empleo que describía la edición de 1741 frente a las publicaciones de 1844 y 2010. Abstract: The aim of this paper is to provide an historiographical review about the evolution of two orthographic signs that often lead to doubts about their use: the semicolon and the colon. In particular, three works about orthography published by the Royal Spanish Academy in 1741, 1844 and 2010 are submitted to analysis. In conclusion, this paper emphasizes that the only use the 1741 edition mentioned regarding the semicolon has remained until the present. In contrast, the colon shows divergence between its employment described in the 1741 edition and the 1844 and 2010 publications. Keywords: orthography; semicolon; colon; Royal Spanish Academy.

This paper aims at discussing the need to formulate a bridge between a theory of language (Critical Discourse Analysis, for example) and research on {coteaching|cogenerative dialogue} as a means to not only understand participants identity transformation but also the power relations fostered in {coteaching|cogenerative dialogue} contexts. It is grounded in a socio-historical-cultural perspective of learning and critical discourse analysis. The results of such alignment, in this paper, are presented as a proposal for investigating the ways of exercising control in the ways of acting and interacting in {coteaching|cogenerative dialogues} or other collaborative and democratic environments.Key-Words: critical discourse analysis, interaction, power, socio-historical-cultural perspective.

The article is dedicated to world-modelling in commercial advertising. The author draws on European and Russian cognitive-discursive theories, which emphasize the importance of studying discourse in terms of mental representations and sets out the basics of World Modelling Theory. The named theory is used in the paper as a framework for understanding linguistic mechanisms of structuring information about the world by ‘the powerful’ agent of advertising discourse and its representation in slogans for the main objectives of communication. The argument is that text-worlds, generated by slogans, are cognitive-pragmatic representational structures of discourse, mediating the interaction of agent, client, and product, that depend on a wide range of contextual factors, having marketing character. The paper considers linguistic mechanisms of activating representational structures in correlation with pragmatic aspects of advertising communication, which lead to profiling three entities in the text-worlds – ADDRESSER, ADDRESSEE, PRODUCT. Typical world-modelling patterns are analyzed in the perspective REALITY – POTENTIALITY. It is shown that agent of discourse governs the perception of state of affairs presented in the text-world either exploiting the existing mass representations or creating new ones that eventually become socially accepted.Key-words: advertising discourse, text-world, world-modelling

The paper aims to present the potential, for foreign language students, of the exolingual interactions online in public and open forums. For the analysis of students’ commentaries, I apply the observation categories that were first elaborated for the analysis of posts published in press sites. I focus on narrative commentaries in which web users organize phenomena and events discussed in public discourse and try to give them their individual interpretation. I consider this kind of interaction on press sites as contrib-uting to the civic debates: I argue that they can be also integrated in observation categories used to describe and analyze exchanges between students discussing social issues in reference to foreign lan-guage media information. In the paper I present two kinds of commentaries: those written by native speakers in public forums and those written by FL students in response to public commentaries.

Este artigo apresenta uma análise de interações interlocutivas em fóruns de discussão, inseridos no ambiente de formação continuada de professores de Língua Portuguesa em um Portal Educacional. Buscou-se compreender os sentidos produzidos a partir do horizonte temático-valorativo dessas interações interlocutivas em situação de formação continuada de professores em um ambiente online. A investigação baseou-se nos pressupostos teórico-metodológicos da Perspectiva Dialógica de Linguagem, elaborada pelo Círculo de Bakhtin (BAKHTIN, 2003 [1979]; 2008 [1963]; 2016 [1953]). Foram analisados enunciados produzidos em três fóruns produzidos nos períodos de maio e setembro de 2012 e maio de 2013. A análise aponta para uma acentuação conteudista dos temas em pauta na formação, bem como uma valoração mais proeminente dos materiais disponibilizados e da demanda oficial em detrimento aos posicionamentos dos professores advindos de seus saberes constituídos na prática educativa.

Neste artigo, nosso objetivo é analisar representações do ensino da leitura nas aulas de português do curso secundário brasileiro, manifestas em livros escolares editados na primeira metade do século XX, de modo a depreender as práticas de leitura que eram priorizadas, tendo em vista a função sociocultural, distintiva e hierarquizadora da escola secundária nesse período, destinada prioritariamente às elites dirigentes do país. Subsidiados por princípios e reflexões da História Cultural da leitura e a partir de um corpus constituído com obras didáticas adotadas no secundário, a saber, Céu, terra e mar (1914), de Alberto de Oliveira, Manual de califasia e arte de dizer (1930), de Silveira Bueno, O idioma nacional na escola secundária (1935), de Antenor Nascentes, e Português através de textos (1969), de Magda Soares, constatamos que no curso secundário brasileiro fomentavam-se especialmente práticas de ensino da leitura em voz alta. Essa leitura oralizada dispunha de atenção especial nas recomendações dessas obras didáticas, estabelecendo uma aproximação muito estreita com a tradição da arte retórica, com o objetivo de desenvolver habilidades específicas relativas ao domínio da eloquência, que representava um dos atributos essenciais na formação dos filhos da elite nacional, de início agrária e progressivamente urbanizada, nesse período de formação e consolidação do Estado brasileiro.

Este trabalho visa apresentar uma reflexão sobre a formação docente nos cursos de licenciatura em Letras da Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG), focalizando-a como trabalho educativo, atividade pela qual “o homem transforma a natureza e a si próprio” (DUARTE, 1998, p. 104). Nessa dimensão, as discussões ora propostas corroboram a ideia de educação escolar como promotora do desenvolvimento humano, uma vez que esse desenvolvimento se concretiza nas interações sociais, as quais, por sua vez, são sempre mediadas por signos (signos ideológicos). O currículo desses cursos considera que “as ações com a linguagem se manifestam a cada passo do processo pedagógico” (BRITTO, 2007, p. 67), na medida em que esse processo é articulado na interação comunicativa entre professor, aluno e objeto(s) de conhecimento. Considerando esse contexto específico de formação, estabelecemos como subsídio para as reflexões propostas a análise de planejamentos de disciplina, denominados na referida instituição “Programa de Disciplina”, compreendendo-os como um movimento de “prévia-ideação” que caracteriza a natureza do trabalho na perspectiva de Leontiev (1978). Foi possível observar que esses planejamentos se materializam em gêneros de discurso, instrumentos reveladores de uma proposta de trabalho a ser executada entre sujeitos historicamente situados. Assumindo, portanto, a atividade docente como trabalho educativo mediado por língua(gem), na medida em que esse processo é articulado por signos ideológicos, pela palavra-texto, palavra-enunciado, as discussões e análises ora apresentadas estão ancoradas na perspectiva dialógica e histórico-cultural dos estudos da linguagem.

O presente artigo objetiva apresentar uma contextualização da história dos métodos de alfabetização no Brasil e uma reflexão do método fônico implementado por decreto no Plano Nacional de Alfabetização. O intuito é mostrar, a partir dos estudos de Mortatti (2006), que a discussão acerca de um método salvacionista existe desde quando a escola foi universalizada, no final do século XIX. Desde então se defende a implementação de um método em detrimento de outro. A Política Nacional de Alfabetização aposta no método fônico para erradicar o analfabetismo no Brasil e este artigo apresenta reflexões acerca deste método, que defende a consciência fonológica como pré-requisito para que o sujeito seja alfabetizado, com o propósito de mostrar que a escolha do método deve estar atrelada a necessidade do indivíduo e que a apropriação da leitura e da escrita supera o processo de instrumentalização.

Este artigo é resultado das constantes inquietações despertadas a partir da ascensão da Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BRASIL, 2017), que está sendo objeto de discussão e formação em todas as redes de ensino e em escolas públicas e privadas de todo o país. Diante disso, o objetivo deste trabalho é entender as demandas nacionais que resultaram no surgimento do documento, bem como sua concepção pedagógica comparada aos documentos anteriores, como as Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais da Educação Básica (BRASIL, 2013) e as demandas apontadas pelo Plano Nacional de Educação (BRASIL, 2014). Para tal, buscou-se compreender o conceito de competência presente na BNCC e trazer apontamentos de autores e outros documentos que também exploram o termo, juntamente com outras questões, como a fragmentação dos conteúdos e a avaliação em larga escala - possíveis discussões a partir da leitura do documento. Nesse sentido, foi possível perceber a forte relação que há entre a educação e o mercado de trabalho e o papel que a escola vem sendo forçada a desempenhar no cenário social brasileiro, o que reforça a necessidade de novas reflexões sobre o assunto em questão.

Ao darmos sequência à publicação do número temático: Pesquisas em Linguística Aplicada: o ensino e a aprendizagem das práticas de linguagem em língua portuguesa na Educação Básica, apresentamos, com grande satisfação, os artigos que comporão sua segunda parte.

Este artigo se ocupa da ampliação do horizonte social dos estudantes da Educação Básica nas aulas de Língua Portuguesa a partir de uma experiência de prática de ensino de língua como elemento vivo, cujos arranjos poéticos se constituem significativos na interação verbal. Parte-se do princípio de que os estudos da interação, em especial, aqueles da vertente da Análise Dialógica do Discurso, podem iluminar a discussão da Linguística Aplicada sobre o ensino da Língua Portuguesa na Educação Básica. O objetivo desta reflexão é estabelecer relações entre a prática de ensino de Língua Portuguesa na Educação Básica e a concepção de horizonte social, cuja ampliação resulta de experiências significativas na/com a língua. A metodologia compreende uma pesquisa-ação desenvolvida em uma turma de 1º Ano de Ensino Médio de uma escola pública de Passo Fundo/RS a partir do trabalho com a linguagem poética. O trabalho realizado permitiu concluir que a prática de ensino de Língua Portuguesa envolve não apenas a discussão da língua como objeto de estudo, mas, principalmente, da língua como fenômeno social, marcada pelo conteúdo ideológico, pelo conteúdo relativo à vida, sendo os arranjos poéticos um modo de se vivenciar a realidade social e cultural, capaz de estabelecer sentido pelos efeitos que causa nas pessoas e na vida em sociedade.

As mudanças que o contexto educacional vem passando historicamente aparecem na sociedade contemporânea, sobretudo, no dilema da transição dos documentos norteadores da Educação Básica e em suas concepções de ensino, de sujeito e de alfabetização. Assim, este estudo objetivou fazer uma reflexão teórica e comparativa das concepções de alfabetização no documento Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais da Educação Básica - DCNs (BRASIL, 2013) com o que se pode encontrar no documento que entrou em vigor em 2019, a Base Nacional Comum Curricular – BNCC (BRASIL, 2019a). Para tanto, buscou-se subsídios teóricos em pesquisadores consagrados da educação, como Duarte (2001), Mortatti (2006, 2007, 2010), Sebra e Dias (2011), entre outros autores, que têm estudado os métodos de alfabetização e sua hibridização na então chamada sociedade do conhecimento.

O presente artigo tem como objetivo explorar as primeiras aproximações sobre o trabalho de educação linguística, tendo em vista a ampliação da experiência literária como um dos eixos prioritários do ensino de língua portuguesa no Brasil. A discussão enfrentada, sobre o lugar que a leitura do texto literário ocupa nas aulas de Língua Portuguesa, fundamentou-se na teoria histórico-crítica e na pedagogia histórico-cultural, tendo uma abordagem dialógica e histórica, com a finalidade de promover a aproximação do problema com os fundamentos teórico-filosóficos e pedagógicos.

This paper investigates sociolinguistic styles as indexes to social identities in the context of the ‘German’ colonial zone in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. On the basis of a detailed sequential and stylistic analysis of three interactional episodes in a sindicato office it is shown that the deployment of sociolinguistic style is relevant for the display and ascription of identity-related features of ethnic belonging (daitsch) and positioning on the rural-urban continuum (colono). In particular, the paper focuses on language choice and code-switching/mixing. Key words: identity, bilingualism, German in RS.

Among the sources that reflect the transformations occurred in the imperial ideology during the 3rd-4th centuries, we find the speeches uttered between 289 and 389 in official and solemn circumstances by orators from Gallia (some of them anonymous), reunited since the Antiquity in the corpus entitled Panegyrici Latini. A special place in this respect is occupied by the divine nature of the emperor. The biography on the matter is rather consistent, but we may still add to the discussion an aspect that has not been approached thus far, and that I will approach in this paper, namely the relation between the princeps and the elements of nature. The analysis of the paragraphs concerning the control over the physical universe by the sovereigns allows the emphasis on aesthetical formulas through which the orators have accentuated certain defining elements of the ideology conveyed using their discourses – the cosmocratic rulership, exceptional civilian and military powers, legitimate election, the consensus between the Court and the provincial political circles. The sections of the paper are based on these aspects: 1. Maximianus – fortitudo; fortuna; felicitas; 2. Constantius and the providentia; 3. Constantine – utilitas publica; virtus; princeps salutaris; 4. Theodosius and the meritocratic principality.

Resistance has proven to be a hard concept to define. Debates about resistance in the sociological and sociolinguistic literature cover many aspects: from the degree to which resistance can be seen as related to established social groups (see Rampton 1996), to the level of agentivity and intention that is required for an action to be regarded as resistant, to the type of social behavior that qualifies. Thus, while some see resistance as based on actions, others see it as based on cultural appropriation (Hall and Jefferson 1976). In their comprehensive review of literature on the topic, Hollander and Einwohner (2004) conclude that resistance can be seen as consisting of action and opposition. In this paper, I analyze resistance from the point of view of opposition to ideas, social situations, institutional actions and processes that result or may result in discrimination or stereotyping of specific social groups, as negotiated in the digital sphere by migrant and non-migrant youth belonging to a school-based community. Indeed, it has been argued (Chiluwa 2012, Chibuwe & Ureke 2016) that digital environments constitute ideal arenas for the development of resistance thanks to their wide reach and their ability to mobilize people around common themes. However, much of the research in this area has targeted organized resistance fueled by political or ethnic groups. In this paper I argue that resistance is an emerging process that does not necessarily stem within political contexts or from open choice, but can develop within interactional exchanges focused on everyday life events. Thus, what I am interested in here is in how spontaneous acts and discourses of resistance emerge in the everyday exchanges of a diverse community that was not born around a particular social or political agenda. For this paper, I will examine exchanges that happen on the Facebook page of one of the members of the community. I will show how resistance takes many forms: from irony and jokes to the raising of serious topics, to the dissemination of information and through different discourse genres: from storytelling to the posting of pictures.

ABSTRACT This paper aims to investigate practices in teacher education in the context of the Teletandem Brasil Project (Vassallo & Telles, 2006). Through web conferencing tools, the project pairs up Brazilian university students learning foreign languages with foreign university students learning Portuguese. The partnerships are supported by mediation sessions conducted by professors and researchers of the Teletandem Project. In this paper, we present some theoretical concepts related to telecollaboration (Belz, 2003; O’Dowd, 2007; 2018), besides providing a detailed description and comparison of four editions of preparatory courses for teletandem mediators, organized by researchers of the project. The results of the analysis may provide alternatives for teacher education in a context of growing transcultural connections.

There are different formal structures which requests can be made with depending on the register used and the degree of courtesy. During the teaching process, these structures are introduced according to their recursiveness and difficulty, and not necessarily due to their courtesy. This can cause mismatches between the perception of requests in L2 and in L1. In this paper we intend to analyze if this is really the case, or if there are no differences in the perception of these structures in L1 and L2.

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the Invited Inferencing Theory of Se-mantic Change in order to establish the semantic evolution of idioms with literal correlates, in particular somatisms or kinegrams. The methodology is applied to analyze the testimonies (until 1700) of Spanish somatism cerrar los ojos in a diachronic corpus of Spanish language (CORDE), so as to find out what inferences generated contextual meanings that conditioned its lexicalization as idiom, semanticizing sym-bolic meanings related to death, sleep, knowledge, irrationality, submission or trust.

The paper analyzes the stylistic variation of implosive /s/ in Guayaquil Spanish. The aim is to verify the sociolinguistic status of /s/-weakening according to Labov’s three-level hierarchy: linguistic indicators, markers, and stereotypes. It is argued that the aspired allophone [h], by representing a clear pattern of stylistic variation, can be qualified as a marker, and since it receives metalinguistic commentary from the speakers, it is also a stereotype in the Guayaquil speech community. The analysis contains a quantitative study of /s/ variation on a corpus of radio speech (CHARG) and a qualitative confrontation of the results with responses gathered in a language attitudes survey.

The analysis of students’ texts requires from the teacher scientific knowledge about language which provides him subsidies for the diagnosis of the writings. Thus, this paper aims to present some reflections on the possibilities of using a diagnostic table, designed with the purpose of guiding the teacher – when assessing the student’s text – in the identification of the mastered and non-mastered aspects in writing. The designing of the table is the result of studies carried out by a study group on Portuguese language, consisting of teachers of the early years and supported by the theories of speech genres (BAKHTIN, 2003) and text genres (BRONCKART, 2003), the concept of text as a teaching unit (GERALDI, 1984) and, more specifically, the discussions on practices of linguistic analysis (GERALDI, 1984 and 1997). In order to test the use of the table, we will take texts of the genre ‘note’ produced by students of the 3rd year of elementary school, considering genre, text and spelling aspects.
