This paper presents possible approaches to the use of a reference ontology for digital journals, supporting bibliographic processesin systematic literature reviews. The benefits are highlighted of using specialized servicesthrough “batch” or “on-the-fly”processingof information from different repositories, such as recognized and indexed databases and portals or specific websites. It isconcluded that the use of reference ontology enables the creation of services that ensure greater interoperability betweendifferent repositories, allowing a more inclusive and accurate retrieval of information, as it standardizes the concepts related tothe access points of scientific journals.

Abstract This paper has the main goal of analyzing and explaining the use of the web platform for doing psycholinguistics experiments online called Penn Controller for Ibex (PCIbex) (ZEHR; SCHWARZ, 2018). To illustrate its use, we presented an experiment developed for the research: “Processamento de sentenças e Foco: estudos de interface na Psicolinguística experimental”. For further exemplification of the platform, we compared it to other similar tools called PsychoPy (PEIRCE, 2007). This study proves itself relevant because the literature in Portuguese about this platform is scarce. As a result, we aim to contribute to the dissemination of PCIbex in the Brazilian research community.

The social media sentiment analysis consists on extracting information from users in comments made in their social network. Such topic has been the focus of many study works in the last few years. It can assist the decision-making process of companies, aid teaching methods and even identify and boost intentions and opinions about candidates in elections. However, due to the Big Data environment in which these data are inserted, the traditional analysis can be compromised because of the high dimensionality added to other factors. The implication on the analysis is resulted by high computational cost and low quality of results. Besides that such analysis is impracticable manually as it exceeds the human capacity of understanding. Up to date research has given a focus on how to analyze feelings of users with machine learning and techniques inspired by nature, allowing the study of users’ opinions. In order to analyze such data effectively, a feature selection through these approaches is proposed. Machine learning added to lexical analysis has become an attractive alternative to overcome this challenge and facilitate its processing. This paper aims to present a hybrid bioinspired approach to realize feature selection and improve sentiment classification quality. The scientific contribution is the improvement of a classification model considering preprocessing of the data with different languages and contexts. The results prove that the developed method enriches the predictive model by improving the accuracy by 10% to 17%. This method selected 45% of the attributes in average compared to traditional analysis. CAPES: 88887.512827/2020-00

Theory of Constraints (TOC) states that every system has a single constraint that limits its performance, on which improvement efforts should be concentrated. This paper compared, through computer simulation, several methods of identifying the capacity-constrained resource in the perspective of a process of continuous improvement. Six make-to-stock (MTS) production line configurations managed by the Simplified Drum-Buffer-Rope (S-DBR) system were simulated, in which six improvement methods were applied, three of them based on the TOC literature, and their performance measured and compared in terms of cycle time and order fill rate. The results showed that, in balanced systems, improvements spread over all resources allowed better results, because, in this case, it is necessary to improve everything to benefit the overall performance. In unbalanced environments, on the other hand, the three methods recommended by TOC, which recommend efforts concentrated on the weakest point of the system, achieved superior performance, with emphasis on the strategy based on the level of utilization. In addition to advancing the frontiers of knowledge in continuous improvement and TOC, the research results show that managers should focus their attention on the resource with the highest degree of utilization to get better and faster performance gains.

Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T19:42:43Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-11-01 Renewable sources of energy appear to be a great solution to problems related to rising demand for electricity and the ever-growing worldwide concern about carbon dioxide emission levels as they are non-polluting, clean and abundant. Wind energy is one of the most promising forms of renewable energy. Thus, in order to further improve wind generation technology, this work presents a wind turbine emulator (WTE) capable of simulating power curves of a turbine by means of hardware-in-the-loop control. An WTE is an important tool for the development of renewable energy systems providing a controllable test environment that allows the evaluation and improvement of control schemes which is difficult to acquire in real wind turbines as wind speed is random. Thus, this paper presents the analysis, modeling and experimental implementation of a wind turbine emulator using a three-phase induction motor (TIM) driven by a frequency inverter. For this, a closed loop control of torque and speed is implemented. This control causes the TIM along with the frequency inverter to emulate the actual behavior of a wind turbine, considering variations in wind dynamics, aerodynamic phenomena, load effects and pitch angle. The control algorithm is designed via MATLAB / Simulink software and communication between the computational model and the experimental bench is ensured through the microcontroller DSP TMS320F28335. Using a torque sensor and an encoder, this model defines the torque level on the system shaft and the rotational speed of the TIM. These signals are fed back to the computational model and thus the power curve of the WTE is defined with the voltage level to be applied to the frequency inverter. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of using the TIM-frequency inverter assembly for emulating a wind turbine, since the WTE can represent a real wind turbine. ABSTRACT This paper aims to examine the noun phrase with non-canonical order of constituents, called ‘discontinuous Np’ by Keizer (2007). The analysis and description of discontinuity aims to search, based on Functional Discourse Grammar theoretical framework (HENGEVELD; MACKENZIE, 2008), for pragmatic, semantic and formal factors which motivate the speaker’s choice of specific encodings to these Nps in the Morphosyntactic Level. The sample is constituted from spoken language records from the Iboruna database, which represents the spoken variety in the northwest of São Paulo State, collected by the ALIP project, within the Functional Grammar Research Group, at UNESP, in São José do Rio Preto. For the purposes of this work, the following criteria are explored: (i) motivation for discontinuity; (ii) type of intervening material in the Np; (iii) morphosyntactic configuration of the discontinuous Np; and (iv) structural weight of the element displaced from the Np. The analysis shows that discontinuity is predominantly motivated by pragmatic aspects, in particular, by the focal status of information provided by part of the Np. Furthermore, the prototypical discontinuous Np is characterized by the interference of morphosyntactic material between the head noun and its postnuclear constituents. Although there is this linear distancing, the comprehension of discontinuous statements is not impaired due to a semantic link preserved at the Representational Level, a possible interpretation in a theoretical model such as FDG.

Made available in DSpace on 2022-05-01T08:44:33Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-09-01 This paper presents a detailed design methodology for a DC-DC converter based on the recent Quasi-Y Source impedance network, which has interesting characteristics for applications related to renewable energy sources. Despite the advantages of this particular impedance network, there is a lack in the current literature, of details regarding the design of the diode and coupled inductors, and a description of its leakage inductance impact on the performance of the Quasi-Y-Source based converter. Therefore, this work presents design guidelines for the coupled inductors including core material choice criteria and optimization of windings combinations. Several analyses are conducted, through computational simulation, with respect to voltage stresses on the converter switches. The simulations results are compared with experimental implementation considering different voltage gain B operational scenarios. The obtained results shows that the proposed approach is useful to design: (a) Quasi-Y Source DC-DC converter components; (b) Evaluate the best coupled inductors configuration; (c) Implement closed loop controllers and snubbers circuits. A discussion evaluating the converter characteristics is made, exploring possible solutions to problems related to real operation scenarios.

Urban solid waste management is a complex system due to the many variables that compose it, which makes it difficult for managers to make decisions. Among the decision-making tools is system dynamics. To identify the gaps between the literature and the studies about urban solid waste management by using system dynamics method, a survey of published papers on the subject was made, which were later analyzed using some defined criteria, such as the level of the study, the software used for modeling, the variables included in the model, among others. The research identified that, among the stages of solid waste management, the collection process is still little incorporated in the models, being mentioned in only nine studies analyzed. Besides, the environmental, financial and institutional requirements were not adequately explored in the models. Future research should endeavor to include these elements in the models, which will allow the proposed system to be approximated to the complex reality of solid waste management.

In disasters, when affected areas are remote or difficult to access, or when other ways of transport are not available, helicopters become the most appropriate vehicles to reach the victims, specialy in cases of floods, landslides and earthquakes. However, the planning of air transport operations in the context of a disaster response is of great complexity, so that operational research has significant application and potential contribution to the area. In this context, we propose a procedure that aims to optimize the use of helicopters in response operations to small and medium-scale disasters. The proposed procedure seeks to minimize the total time of operation and the mobilization of air resources during the last mile delivery in relief operations. The proposed procedure is applied on a post-disaster scenario, taking as basis the real characteristics of the response operation to the floods, occurred in 2011, in the mountain region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Individuals use information to reduce discomfort, effort and errors. Thinking about it, headphones were invented, so that the music could be heard without disturbing others; household appliances, to reduce the effort in washing dishes or clothes; and calculating machines, so that human distraction would not cause an accident in calculating the weight that a bridge could bear. But the information has hardly changed the certainties and doubts about which is the most suitable college course to attend; what are the best practices that could contribute to the individual's daily life, during the academic career, which includes when and what to study, what to eat and what to do in their free time. It is undeniable that there is greater access to information, but many times, instead of browsing this information, the individual sinks into it. In addition, teachers and students remain stuck in curriculum, with the same menu being provided for carnivores, vegetarians or lactose intolerants. If before students were beaten with rules in their hands and were attacked psychologically, having to learn the same as everyone else, nowadays only rules have ceased to exist, at least in theory. Reducing errors in choosing a higher education course and the entire life that governs the academic path can be a dream for many individuals and an integrative system that collects information about the individual and guides him in his academic path could be an extremely useful compass. Know which college course to take; knowing which discipline, among the electives, to choose; know the right time to get up and sleep; what to do throughout the day; what and when to eat; they are all informational outputs that the utopian system could provide, in order to contribute to the individual's success. This paper will attempt to discuss these issues, investigating part of the enabling technologies in today's Society 5.0. The objective is to initiate a debate on the delegation to an integrative system of data, information and knowledge management, the success of individuals and society., Bobcatsss, Bobcatsss 2021: Digital Transformation

Abstract: As an important part of the intelligent transport system, the autonomous vehicles (AVs) have attracted the attention of researchers during the last decades. One of the most recurring topics about AVs is to verify their technology safety aspects, to guarantee that their market deployment is feasible and widely applied. This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of the researches on the subject, from the Web of Science database, to identify their main characteristics, evolution, and potential trends. Safety-focused studies on AV continue to expand and are published in renowned journals, mainly in the areas of transport science technology and electrical and electronic engineering, and can be divided into those that seek to improve the performance of systems responsible for responding appropriately to an accident, or to a cyberattack. As to accidents, the most relevant articles on the subject indicate that it is important that the AV is able to drive skillfully and safely in uncertain environments, minimizing potential risks. As to possible cyberattacks, it is important that the AV has sufficient redundancy in any input source, to allow of an efficient protection against possible attacks. These actions serve to increase the acceptance of potential users and to make the technology viable for commercialization. Made available in DSpace on 2021-06-29T18:00:51Z (GMT). The main purpose of clustering voice pathologies is the attempt to form large groups of subjects with similar pathologies to be used with Deep-Learning. This paper focuses on applying Kohonen's Self-Organizing Maps and Hierarchical Clustering to investigate how these methods behave in the clustering procedure of voice samples by means of the parameters absolute jitter, relative jitter, absolute shimmer, relative shimmer, HNR, NHR and Autocorrelation. For this, a comparison is made between the speech samples of the Control group of subjects, the Hyper-functional Dysphonia and Vocal Folds Paralysis pathologies groups of subjects. As a result, the dataset was divided in two clusters, with no distinction between the pre-defined groups of pathologies. The result is aligned with previous result using statistical analysis. Dictionaries are works that describe the lexicon in its most varied forms. Therefore, along with grammars, one of its roles is to present information about grammatical words, whose meaning is usually related to their syntactic function. This is the case of conjunctions. Understood as grammatical elements generally used to connect textual elements, they are fundamental for textual cohesion. Based on this context, this paper aims at describing the lexicographic information present in the entries of the subordinating conjunctions that and if in the type 4 school dictionaries of the Brazilian National Plan for the Didactic Books collection (2012 edition). In order to understand the concept of conjunction, we discuss the ideas of researchers such as Cunha and Cintra (2017), Bechara (2001) and Bagno (2012), in addition to the works of Pontes (2009) and Brazil (2012) to understand how school dictionaries are organized. As for the analysis of the data, this research has qualitative and descriptive orientation. Our results indicate that most of the entries analyzed have grammatical orientation in the lexicographic information they present about integral conjunctions, addressing their syntactic function, as commonly occurs in grammars. We could notice that the grammatical approach given to conjunctions in the works we have analyzed is oriented by standard language prescriptions, based on grammar rules and nomenclature, what hinders the comprehension of the entries for readers who do not know syntactic prescriptions, especially those related to compound sentences structure.

Traditional material selection starts from a concept or product to research and definition of suitable materials for the project. However, in cases of use of new materials or unconventional materials an inversion occurs: starting with a material for research and definition of possible products. The purpose of reversing the selection of materials is to introduce a new material or an unconventional materialon the market. This paper presents an inverted material selection model proposal, consisting of the material characterization steps, consideration of environmental aspects, comparison with conventional materials, manufacturing processes and definition of applications. Based on this model, two case studies were carried out with sustainable materials: composites with rice husks and porongo. With the case studies, it was possible to validate the inverted material selection model.

The linguistic recognition of Sign Languages in 1960 and, more recently, in Brazil, ensured the officialization of the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), in 2002. Through this recognition, significant changes occurred in the scientific areas tha involve the study of that language as, for example, the registration of sign-terms. Thus, Libras becomes an object of studies in different language sciences, mainly in the Communicative Theory of Terminology (CTT), which chooses as object of investigation the linguistic behavior of the terminological units and, therefore, we believe that there is space in this theory for studying the units belonging to Libras. Under this bias, the present work aims to analyze the Terminological Definition (TD) of the sign-terms registered in the Brazilian Sign Language Dictionary (DLSB), mainly with regard to the organization and writing of the statements that constitute the definition of the signterms of Medicinal Plants in Libras. This investigation is justified by the need of the user to understand how these sign-terms are defined, considering the precepts of CTT and the cultural and functional aspects that make up the language. The preliminary results indicate that the DLSB provides many contributions to the areas of study of the lexicon and Libras, however it still constitutes a needy space in the sense of observing the terms under the lenses of the TD. In short, the themes discussed in this paper will provide some reflections about the process of building definitions in dictionaries, although many terminological issues still need to be further explored in future researches.

Despite many advances in the field of dead-time compensators (DTCs) for unstable first-order plus dead-time (UFOPDT) processes, the tuning, in general, is manually carried out. Therefore, this paper proposes simple tuning rules for a DTC intended to UFOPDT processes. The rules are based on the relative dead time, desired closed-loop time constant, and achievable robustness. Besides, as the practical implementation is always in the discrete-time domain, a method to choose the sampling period for UFOPDT processes is presented. Four simulation examples from the literature are used to show the advantages of the proposed method. In addition, an experiment with a propeller pendulum is performed to confirm such advantages in the control of a real unstable process with dead time.

This paper presents the application of the Augmented Reality tool – AR Sandbox in the Landscape and Urban and Rural Planning. From the topological educational experience carried out with the semiotic resource of tangible computing, it enabled numerous applications such as: recognizing the studied landscape and its modeled; understand the graphic translation of this modeled by representing by level curves; interact (tactile and visually) with the transformations of the modeled; simulate the path of the flowing waters on the different surfaces of a modeled; study strategies for the scope and protection of territories; and especially identify areas susceptible to natural and man-made accidents and disasters. As a result, it presents the great potential of the tool in expanding experiences and accelerating results. The tool was developed with the participation of teachers and students, expanding their experiences and interactions and accelerating their learning process, in addition to sensitizing them about prevention of risk areas in human settlement spaces.

This paper presents a first outline of an encompassing account of extra-clausal constituents (ECCs) within the framework of Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG). Drawing primarily on English corpus data, we investigate both the functional and the formal properties of this heterogeneous class of constituents, focusing in particular on their underlying pragmatic structure and contribution to the ongoing discourse, and on the communicative factors relevant to their placement within the larger linguistic expressions within which they occur. More specifically, we suggest that each ECC forms a separate, though invariably dependent unit of communicative behaviour (i.e. a Subsidiary Discourse Act). Moreover, we argue that the mechanism governing the placement of ECCs vis-à-vis both their hosts and each other is fundamentally different from the placement rules proposed in FDG for morphosyntactic units belonging to the clause, phrase or word; the result is a system that captures both the functional constraints on the placement of ECCs and their greater positional freedom. This paper presents a first outline of an encompassing account of extra-clausal constituents (ECCs) within the framework of Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG). Industrial Control Systems (ICS) networks offer a high level of automation combined with high levels of control, quality, and process improvement. Since network corporate users have to access the ICS environment, these networks have to be interconnected. However, this interconnection can introduce risks to the systems and manufacturing processes, which leads to the need to ensure the interconnection is done safely. The objective of this paper is to perform modeling and validation of a proposed secure interconnection between ICS and corporate networks using Colored Petri Networks (CPN). In addition to the best practices published in related works, this paper recommends some integrated features like the use of terminal server service, secure manual uplinks, and unidirectional security gatewayto enhance environmental security. However, our main contribution is the validation process performed in a CPN, which made it possible to execute queries in the state space resulting from the simulation -that works as a proof of concept. As a result, thepaper presents a secure and validated model of interconnection between ICS and corporate networks, capable of being applied to any interconnection environment

In this paper, we describe the various ways of giving feedback to learners, in this case Chinese, after completing a written task, as well as the process we have adopted to make the correction process more efficient and effective. Thus, in the theoretical part of this study, we address the feedback given by peers (classmates), and feedback that involves the teacher, not only written (direct and indirect), but also teacher-student conferencing. In the practical part of this paper, we analyze how the adopted method of correction and rewriting makes the process more reflective and thoughtful, not only improving the written tasks, but also leading students to retain the aspects understood and corrected, even if this retention is not absolute in the majority of the cases. Keywords: Writing tasks. Feedback. Retention. Chinese learners.

The literature on operations strategies has extensively addressed the notion that competitive priorities and structural decisions should be aligned to create, develop, and maintain competitive advantages. However, the speed and scale of new manufacturing technologies are modifying an organization’s strategies and manufacturing capabilities to address new market requirements, competition, and new entrants. Advances in robotics are poised to change the global business landscape and to support organizations in improving upon their operations strategies. Industrial robots usually help improve product quality and provide better work conditions to limit the use of resources, resulting in cost savings. One of the main trends in robotics is that of human-robot collaboration (HRC), which influences operations strategies and which can have a disruptive effect on business models and market structures. The aim of this paper is to explore and understand the relationship between the competitive priorities (quality, cost, flexibility, and delivery) of classical operations and the competitive advantage of adopting HRC for a Brazilian automotive parts supplier. The results indicate that the hybrid cell (U-shaped manufacturing cell) fully adheres to cost and dependability priorities and partially adheres to quality and flexibility priorities.

ABSTRACT This paper compares the use of two multicriteria decision analytical methods used for military material selection. In the decision analysis the Analytic Hierarchy Process - AHP was initially used first in order to rank the alternatives in the presence of multiple criteria. This study was conducted in the Army Evaluation Center, a unit of the Brazilian Army. The other decision analysis method employed was TODIM, which is based on Prospect Theory, thus allowing to take risks into account in the modeling stage. Although the two multi-criteria methods rely on different decision paradigms, this application study showed that results were quite similar to justify the use of either method in the practice of similar military decisionmaking processes.

Application programming interfaces (APIs) are everyday tools for any programmer. During its usage, an API mediates the communication process between designers and users. This mediation may be implemented in three different ways: the source code, the documentation, and the API behavior. According to the resources used, an API may reach higher or lower levels of conversation with its users. In this paper, we propose a conceptual framework for the definition and classification of conversational APIs. A conversational API is one capable of communicating its internal logic of operation and how to be properly used. Through the proposed framework, we introduce how to classify an API according to its level of conversation. Besides, we use our framework for evaluating three common Java APIs for managing date/time. Our experience indicates that the proposed conceptual framework may be useful for supporting designers in implementing their API interfaces accordingly to the proper needs of communication required by their different types of users.

Code smells are considered symptoms of poor implementation choices, which may hamper the software maintainability. Hence, code smells should be detected as early as possible to avoid software quality degradation. Unfortunately, detecting code smells is not a trivial task. Some preliminary studies investigated and concluded that machine learning (ML) techniques are a promising way to better support smell detection. However, these techniques are hard to be customized to promote an early and accurate detection of specific smell types. Yet, ML techniques usually require numerous code examples to be trained (composing a relevant dataset) in order to achieve satisfactory accuracy. Unfortunately, such a dependency on a large validated dataset is impractical and leads to late detection of code smells. Thus, a prevailing challenge is the early customized detection of code smells taking into account the typical limited training data. In this direction, this paper reports a study in which we collected code smells, from ten active projects, that were actually refactored by developers, differently from studies that rely on code smells inferred by researchers. These smells were used for evaluating the accuracy regarding early detection of code smells by using seven ML techniques. Once we take into account such smells that were considered as important by developers, the ML techniques are able to customize the detection in order to focus on smells observed as relevant in the investigated systems. The results showed that all the analyzed techniques are sensitive to the type of smell and obtained good results for the majority of them, especially JRip and Random Forest. We also observe that the ML techniques did not need a high number of examples to reach their best accuracy results. This finding implies that ML techniques can be successfully used for early detection of smells without depending on the curation of a large dataset.

Distance education is understood as well-planed online learning mediated by computer technologies. Online learning involves more planning and design decisions and thus it is more rigorous than Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT). Given the COVID-19 pandemic several undergraduate and graduate classroom courses had to adapt their traditional classes to ERT. In this context, we have adapted our methodology based on face-to-face classes to incorporate the gamification as a strategy to deal with ERT. The goal of this paper is to present the remote methodology based on the gamification that we have applied on two Computer Science courses. To use the gamification, we have selected a free online gamification, called Classcraft, that enable us to use asynchronous tools. In our methodology, we first organized the course' contents into modules and then, for each module, we defined the activities to work the module's topics; the interactions between the professor and students; and the evaluation criteria. The results showed that the gamification as ERT strategy is effective to engage the students during the pandemic. However, they had difficulties to understand the purpose of using asynchronous tools such as forum.

The development of soft skills is essential for future software engineers since the development process requires creativity, communication and problem-solving skills. Instructors can adapt pedagogical strategies to train students' soft skills and the technical knowledge needed for the profession. Design Thinking (DT) is a methodology that promotes the production of creative and innovative software solutions. Teaching DT in Software Engineering (SE) courses can promote students with an interdisciplinary teaching practice that stimulates soft skills to understand and explore problems and design innovative software solutions. This paper presents research exploring how DT provides practical experiences and it supports the development of students' soft skills from SE courses. We proposed and developed a dynamic based on the DT phase that simulates practical situations of a software project. The students' perceptions of the dynamics were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the dynamics promoted practical experiences and the development of soft skills, such as problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, diversity, and critical thinking.

In this paper, the fruit-based beverage production scheduling problem is studied. The aim is to determine the lot sizing and scheduling production, optimizing inventory costs, backorders and cleanings. Fruit-based beverage production processes typically consist of two production stages, beverage preparation and pasteurization/filling/beverage packaging, including the following characteristics: an intermediate inventory in the second stage, temporal cleanings in both stages and the need for synchrony between the two stages. An effective heuristic based on a two-phase mathematical model is proposed to solve the problem in situations where item changeovers in the tanks (Stage 1) and in the lines (Stage 2) are sequence-dependent on the production. In the first stage, the heuristic searches for feasible solutions, while the second is an improvement stage. Computational tests were run using data based on real instances of a beverage company in two variants of the heuristic and both are promising because they are able to find good solutions to the problem in computational times acceptable in practice.

Many types of physical models have been developed for runoff estimation with successful results. However, accurate runoff estimation remains a challenging problem owing to the lack of field data and the complexity of its hydrological process. In this paper, a machine learning method for runoff estimation is presented as an alternative approach to the physical model. Various types of input variables and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) architectures were examined in this study. Results showed that a two-layer network with the tansig activation function and the Levenberg–Marquardt learning algorithm had the best performance. For this architecture, the most effective input vector consists of a catchment perimeter, canal length, slope, runoff coefficient, and rainfall intensity. However, results of multivariate analysis of variance indicated the significant interaction effect of input data and the ANN architecture. Thus, to create a suitable ANN model for runoff estimation, a systematic determination of the input vector is necessary.

Cloud provider Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) gives access to resources in the form of virtual servers, also known as instances. EC2 spot instances (SIs) offer spare computational capacity at steep discounts compared to reliable and fixed price on-demand instances. The drawback, however, is that the delay in acquiring spots can be incredible high. Moreover, SIs may not always be available as they can be reclaimed by EC2 at any given time, with a two-minute interruption notice. In this paper, we propose a multi-workflow scheduling algorithm, allied with a container migration-based mechanism, to dynamically construct and readjust virtual clusters on top of non-reserved EC2 pricing model instances. Our solution leverages recent findings on performance and behavior characteristics of EC2 spots. We conducted simulations by submitting real-life workflow applications, constrained by user-defined deadline and budget quality of service (QoS) parameters. The results indicate that our solution improves the rate of completed tasks by almost 20%, and the rate of completed workflows by at least 30%, compared with other state-of-the-art algorithms, for a worse-case scenario.

Perforated cardboard is a rigid material widely used during the second half of the 19th century as an embroidery support, but very little-known today. Intervention cases are rare, and so an intervention on a poor condition 1879 glass beads embroidered specimen is presented here. The intervention was a complex task, mainly due to the fragility of the object and the existence of different materials linked to each other, that did not allow the execution of treatments to which they are usually subjected when isolated. The most intricate operation was the simultaneous action of micro-consolidation and micro-infill. These involved the insertion of Japanese paper fibres and 4 % Tylose MH300 between the perforated paper layers, and the insertion of Japanese paper strips between the embroidery lines. For the embroidery housing, it was necessary simultaneously to avoid the most unfavourable conditions for both the preservation of the glass and the paper. In 2013 new improvements took place at the storage areas of the national palaces of Pena, Queluz and Sintra administrated by Parques de Sintra–Monte da Lua. The initial goal was to achieve a better use of the little space available by building custom made polypropylene boxes so stacking up could be done safely. We tried to develop a system that was simple and easily repeatable so that identical materials, methods and organization principles could be followed in storage areas in spite of the different characteristics of existing objects. This paper share practical aspects that were developed while searching for an optimal solution to adequately cushion and box museum objects. The ongoing assessment, carried out according to the agents of deterioration, triggered significant changes to the initial methodology. Results of the evaluation of the use of boxes to block or mitigate some agents of deterioration and their contribution to preventive conservation are presented. How these improvements reflected in collection management is also discussed. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is a strategy to deal with communication deficiencies. Such deficiencies are presented in people with Intellectual Disability (ID). AAC exploits more than one communication channel to send messages, however it cannot ensure that communication happens. In this paper we develop a prototype of collaborative system to support the communication of people with ID. We employ Design Science Research (DSR) and Participatory Design (PD) to tackle the problem. PD is used in the three design cycles of DSR, which are: knowledge about the user; adaptation of a communication model; and development of screens prototypes. The results are requirements related to communication of people with ID.

This paper is part of my postdoctoral program, carried out from March 2019 to February 2020. It aimed to observe some aspects related to teaching-learning issues applied to academic summaries. In this paper, the discussion about the test results of the usability of the “AutorIA” software, which is an outcome of this piece of research, is emphasized. These tests intended to analyze the process related to the interaction between students and computer, checking, in this way, the ease of use of the system (CONRAD; LEVI, 2002). The theoretical support for the software development was based on a hybrid perspective: on the one hand, it was based on the principles of Sociodiscursive Interactionism proposed by Bronckart (1999, 2006) and Cristóvão (2013), as well as its didactic perspective, according to Schneuwly and Dolz (2004); on the other hand, it was gleaned from aspects of the Socio-rhetorical Theory proposed by Swales (1990) and Askehave; Swales (2001), prioritizing the “Create a Research Space Model” (CARS model) and its possible adaptations to the academic summary. The methodology, bounded to the Applied Linguistics, was based on a qualitative perspective of interpretative nature (MOREIRA; CALEFE, 2008), with an empirical methods approach. The results showed that students, in general, gave a positive feedback about the software used for producing academic summaries, demonstrating that technology proves to be an important resource in the didactization process.

Abstract: This paper aims to support researchers in the decisions about the use of closed answer questions in their questionnaires by critically reviewing the literature regarding the implications of such decisions for the nature, validity and reliability of the measure. This literature’s review provides arguments for the researcher to decide on how best to operationalize their variables through a closed response. Arguments presented support decision-making in the construction of response options to be provided to the respondent, and the type of scale to be used: graphical or non-graphical; categories or continuous assessment; with 3 or more points; with or without labels and in this case, with what kind of labels, etc. Other topics are illustrated to be considered for construction of a response scale analyzing the specific case in which “perceived frequencies” are measured. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

This study aims to identify the integration between quality tools and multi-criteria methods, using a bibliometric and systemic analysis. In order to meet this research objective, the methodology used to select the bibliographic portfolio, perform the bibliometric and systemic analysis was the ProKnow-C (Knowledge Development Process – Constructivist). As result were selected 17 articles that represented the bibliographic portfolio and 351 articles as reference for the bibliographic portfolio. The results highlight the journals: Expert Systems with Applications e Applied Soft Computing Journal. The most aligned articles with the theme were, “Supplier selection paradigm: An integrated hierarchical QFD methodology under multiple-criteria environment”, and “Decision making with the analytic hierarchy process”. In the systemic analysis were considered six lenses, according to the theoretical affiliation MCDA-C, and was concluded that the articles were not totally aligned with this specific affiliation. The AHP and TOPSIS methods stood out as the most used methods in this portfolio. It was verified that the quality tools when used integrated with multi-criteria methods allow the creation of decision making evaluation models for scenarios present in the papers found in this research.
