TEACHER training courses , *TEACHER training , *ONLINE education , *REFERENCE books , *ACTION research - Abstract
This article presents the result of an action research that analyzed the participation of 19 teachers in the online course Teacher Training for an Innovative Practice from the View of Edgar Morin's Complex Thought, composed of seven complex lessons referenced in the book Seven Complex Lessons in Education of the Future (MORIN, 2000), promoted by the research group Educational Paradigms and Teacher Training (Pefop). The main contributions pointed out by the participants of the course were identified qualitatively, focusing the sixth knowledge (teaching comprehension), in the three stages in which they were called to reflection and discussion. The teachers involved presented a good understanding, especially since they were in training and had previously studied five other modules of the course. Revealed relevant contributions to the construction of their knowledge, intentions and practices experienced for the transformation of education, based on complex thinking and teaching for understanding, demonstrating a possible path to pedagogical innovation. Ethics education of public health (PH) professionals is insufficient, despite general consensus on the need for it. This article aims to describe the extent to which Spanish masters of public health (MPH) have adopted ethic courses, and to review teaching and/or learning resources on PH ethics available in English. We explored Internet sites from current MPH in Spain and searched for teaching resources using different strategies. A total of 14 MPH were identified out of which seven (50.0%) teach ethics. Ethics is taught together with other aspects of PH in all cases. A total of 12 textbooks on PH ethics were reviewed, five of them include case studies and most have good or high value as teaching tools.

GRAPHIC novels , *COMIC books, strips, etc. , *ALZHEIMER'S disease , *REFERENCE books , *PERSUASION (Psychology) - Abstract
Language is a means of interaction and in the graphic novel, also known as comic book, there are specificities that require the orator to have this knowledge not to miss elements of a good persuasive text, such as clarity, coherence, and cohesion. In this sense, Rhetorical art, which aims to disclose persuasive mechanisms of discourse, is also present in graphic novels, as persuasion can occur in verbal and/or multimodal texts. By presenting verbal and visual language, the discourse, through a multimodal text, is presented to the audience in a more touching and compelling way, capable of awakening movements of exposure of emotional evidence, linked to the heart. This awakening of passions occurs in the graphic novel Wrinkles by Spanish writer Paco Roca. By presenting Alzheimer's disease in a light and emotional way, he allows the work to be persuasive. In this paper, we sought to identify how this multimodal text uses graphic resources to arouse passions in the audience/reader. This study is relevant, as it demonstrates the potential of Rhetoric in multimodal texts -such as in Paco Roca's work, which condenses in images a range of meanings- and how theoretical rhetorical concepts can underpin diverse texts. Comic books references such as Eisner (1999; 2013) and Ramos (2012), as well as Rhetoric references such as Aristotle (2015), Reboul (2004), Meyer (2007), Ferreira (2010), Abreu (2001) Figueiredo (2018) and Fiorin (2016) were used as theoretical background. Our findings reveal some of the passions in the multimodal text, and, based on the theoretical background we used, how they can be evoked in the reader. Graphic sequences like Wrinkles show to be persuasive as they turn to be touching and pensive. In the graphic novel, there is also a pedagogical side of Rhetoric, because in addition to movere and comovere, when reading it, one gets to know a little about Alzheimer's disease, linked to docere. Whilst their 'death' has often been certified, books remain highly important to most professions and academic disciplines. Analyses of citations received by epidemiologic texts may complement other views on epidemiology. The objective was to assess the number of citations received by some books of epidemiology and public health, as a first step towards studying the influence of epidemiological thought and thinking in academia. For this purpose, Institute for Scientific Information/ Thomson Scientific - Web of Science/ Web of Knowledgedatabase was consulted, in May 2006. The book by Rothman & Greenland appeared to have received the highest number of citations overall (over 8,000) and per year. The books by Kleinbaum et al, and by Breslow & Day received around 5,000 citations. In terms of citations per year the book by Sackett et al ranks 3rd, and the one by Rose, 4th of those included in this preliminary study. Other books which were influential in the classrooms collected comparatively less citations. Results offer a rich picture of the academic influences and trends of epidemiologic methods and reasoning on public health, clinical medicine and the other health, life and social sciences. They may contribute to assess epidemiologists' efforts to demarcate epidemiology and to assert epistemic authority, and to analyze some historical influences of economic, social and political forces on epidemiological research.
