Search

Se describen a los micro-papers como formatos novedosos e incipientes para la difusión del conocimiento científico, tanto en revistas científicas como a través de otros métodos nativos del Internet (repositorios, blogs, etcétera). Planteamos la importancia de la utilización de este formato reducido de comunicación de la ciencia para transmitir ciertos tipos de hallazgos, pues presenta una condensación de la información básica en un documento breve, de fácil lectura y con amplia audiencia, sin perder la calidad propia de los trabajos científicos revisados. Para ello, se realiza un estudio descriptivo de carácter exploratorio por medio de una revisión bibliográfica que ahonda en su uso actual y experiencias previas. Concluimos que su viabilidad para la difusión de contenidos científicos concretos busca la agilidad, sin que ello implique la pérdida de la calidad en la difusión científica.

APPLICATION OF MASS SPECTROMETRY WITH PAPER SPRAY IONIZATION AND THE OPLS-DA CHEMOMETRIC METHOD FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF PROSTATE CANCER BY ANALYSIS OF URINE SAMPLES. In this study, paper spray ionization mass spectrometry (PSI-MS) allied to orthogonal projections on the latent structure-discrimination analysis (OPLS-DA) was employed to differentiate urine samples from patients with prostate cancer and control individuals (without prostate cancer). The parameters of sensitivity, specificity, efficiency and Matthew’s correlation coefficient determined to analyze the efficiency and quality of the OPLS-DA model obtained a value equal to 1, which means, respectively, that the model has a good performance to correctly classify true positive samples and true negatives. These results showed 100% correct classification of the samples from the training and test set, demonstrating a high efficiency of the OPLS-DA model when classifying all samples considered as belonging to the class of interest (urine from control patient) into class 1 and all samples considered as belonging to the non-interest class (urine from patients with prostate cancer) in class 0. This efficiency resulting from the application of this model suggests that the PSI-MS combined to OPLS-DA is a promisor approach for a rapid diagnosis of prostate cancer, via chemical fingerprints of urine samples.

Este volume surge como consequência direta do Simpósio internacional PAPER TRAILS: post-industrial histories, technical memories and art practices in Tomar que teve lugar em Tomar (Portugal) entre 25 e 27 de maio de 2022. Por sua vez, o simpósio insere-se num projeto homónimo concebido, em parceria com colaboradoras da École de Design et Haute École d’Art du Valais (EDHEA), no Centro de Tecnologia, Restauro e Valorização das Artes (TECHN&ART), uma unidade de Investigação e Desenvolvimento financiada pela Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) com a referência UID/05488/2020 e pertencente ao Instituto Politécnico de Tomar (IPT).

Se trata de exploraciones esenciales en torno al papel, su textura y las relaciones originadas a partir de su recorte y superposición en capas. Son obras minimalistas en su técnica que despliegan paisajes de formas plegadas y laminadas con profundidad y equilibrio que parten también del imaginario personal sobre la arquitectura. Las composiciones tienen un formato de 21x21 cm. Las mismas reglas operan en todas ellas: el orden y el número de capas, colores, etc., pero se recombinan en cada pieza de forma diferente. Las capas de papel se separan entre sí a unas distancias concretas y se unen de forma solidaria sólo por una pestaña en la parte superior, lo que permite una cierta libertad y tolerancia en la separación entre ellas, de forma que la percepción puede variar levemente en función del plegado o la curvatura del papel, incluso de las condiciones de humedad y atmosféricas.

During the recycling of a cardboard box in the shape of a right prism with a square base to build a tetrahedron, there was the curious coincidence that the height of the first was equal to the inclined height of the second. After some bending and cutting on the prism, its dynamic conversion to the tetrahedron and vice versa was achieved. This fact motivated us to carry out a study on the meaningful learning of a small group of participants (N = 10) with minimum primary school education, regarding the volume of these two common geometric bodies. It was found that 70 % of the study population thought that the volumes were equal and that 100 % had forgotten the formula to calculate the volume of the tetrahedron. A template to build the model and a video to illustrate the mentioned transformation process are also presented.

As in other countries, In Brazil, new genetic materials of Eucalyptus spp. and their hybrids are multiplied through cloning. These materials, currently in experimental trials, must undergo several stages to select the best ones for pulp and paper production. Therefore, new studies on wood quality are essential. Therefore, this study aimed to group 11 clones of Eucalyptus spp. wood, from a clonal plantation in the municipality of Palmital, São Paulo State, for the production of paper and cellulose. For this purpose, four trees of each clone of 4-year-old Eucalyptus spp. were collected. From each tree, a log of 1 m in length was taken from the base of the tree, for the study of the characterization of the basic density and cellular dimensions of the wood. The results showed that there were significant differences between clones for basic density, fiber length, vessel element length and fiber wall thickness. The Runkel ratio, wall fraction and stiffness coefficient did not show significant differences between the different genotypes. From the results obtained, we can conclude that clones can be differentiated only by basic density, fiber length, vessel element length and fiber wall thickness. The Runkel index, flexibility coefficient and wall fraction of Eucalyptus spp. were more efficient to group the clones into two groups.

In recent years, technological development in analytical instrumentation has progressed vigorously, which has allowed the evolution of analytical techniques that play an indispensable role within society, highlighting mass spectrometry. Parallel to the technological advance of this technique, the development of new ionization methods that are simpler, faster, and allow direct analysis without the need for prior treatment or sample processing is underway. The methods of ambient ionization derived from paper spray have been developing rapidly in current days, mainly in the forensic field, due to the chemical modifications made in the paper substrate and the introduction of new types of organic materials that function as a probe/substrate to collect, store, and ionize the sample, then enabling more efficient and selective analyzes. This review highlights direct analyzes by applying paper spray ionization in the forensic field and some variations of this technique, including Thread Spray Ionization (TSI) when a fabric thread is used; Touch Spray Ionization (TSI), which uses materials such as metallic needles, medical swabs, and wooden sticks; Fiber Spray Ionization (FSI), which applies polymeric fibers as substrates.

In the criminal sphere, it is extremely important to identify perpetrators of crimes based on latent fingerprints (invisible to the naked eye) revealed at crime scenes and their corresponding objects. The present work aimed to evaluate four synthetic analogues of curcumin as possible IDL developers, and to compare their results with those of carbon black developer, as well as to reach the most adequate parameters in the use of the LTQ and FT-ICR mass spectrometers with the paper spray ionization (PS) source to study the chemical composition of the endogenous substances contained in the IDL. For this, a 24-1 factorial design was developed, where it was verified that the distance and voltage factors were the most influential for the increase in the response of signals, in the analysis of latent fingerprints by PS. Among the detected substances we can mention around 20 fatty acids, and squalene. Finally, four potential developers, synthetic analogues of curcumin, were compared with carbon black developer. The revelation of latent fingerprints occurred efficiently, allowing the visualization of minutiae, such as bifurcation and end of line, making it possible to classify them, according to the Vucetich Fingerprint Classification System.

In this paper, we estimated the methane emissions by the disposal of sanitary and domestic-use paper consumed throughout Brazil from 1901 to 2016. The apparent consumption of this type of paper from 1961 to 2016, calculated from the data of the FAOSTAT system, was used to estimate the amount of waste disposed of annually in three site categories: sanitary landfill, controlled dump, and open-air, uncontrolled dump. The 2006 IPCC Guide methodology was used to calculate CH4emissions and long-term carbon storage. Nine scenarios based upon the law that establishes the National Solid Waste Policy (NSWP) were examined, considering 100% waste disposal and treatment in landfills or incineration from 2014. The total emission was estimated at 1.967 MtCH4, corresponding to 55.080 MtCO2eq by GWP-AR5, and the stored carbon at 3.724 Mt, corresponding to 13.655 MtCO2eq. CH4emission increased beyond the population growth rate due to an increase in the per capita paper consumption in the country, from 0.02 kgCH4.year-1 in 1961 to 0.30 kg CH4.year-1 in 2016. The NSWP has not yet been accomplished, and the scenarios outlined indicate that, from the point of view of CH4 emissions, it would be more advantageous to carry out incineration instead of applying other waste treatment technologies.

As práticas pedagógicas centradas em videojogos têm vindo a tornar-se cada vez mais populares, dado oferecerem vantagens empiricamente validadas no que diz respeito ao envolvimento dos alunos, à sua motivação e sentido de agência. Estes construtos afetivos são agora reconhecidos como componentes-chave de uma aprendizagem eficaz e significativa, favorecendo o desenvolvimento de competências cognitivas de nível superior. Contudo, enquanto se atesta um número elevado de estudos sobre o uso de videojogos educativos nas áreas das Ciências, Tecnologia, Engenharia e Matemática (STEM), é necessário ainda explorar as potencialidades desses recursos nas disciplinas de Humanidades. Analogamente, devem ser empreendidos mais esforços no sentido da investigação e implementação de atividades que atribuam aos alunos, especialmente àqueles de níveis inferiores ao do Ensino Superior, o papel de designers de videojogos, aliado ao de jogadores. Desta feita, criam-se as condições para que os alunos construam material didático autêntico, sob a forma de experiências digitais imersivas, que apresentam tanto um valor educacional como de entretenimento. Assim, este artigo funciona como um Position Paper sobre a Aprendizagem Baseada em Jogos Digitais ou Digital Game-based learning (DGBL), descrevendo as vantagens afetivas de se jogar e criar videojogos educativos na sala de aula de Humanidades, enquanto reflete criticamente sobre possíveis obstáculos ao sucesso desta prática. O nosso objetivo é estudar como a tecnologia educativa e imersiva pode satisfazer as necessidades de aprendizagem da Geração Z, tendo em consideração os diferentes fatores contextuais que definem o seu perfil.

Having the South American Amazon as our spatial cut, this paper aims to discuss it as a space of physical, environmental and socioeconomic relevance to regional rearticulation, highlighting the issue of transport infrastructure and the importance of Brazil to boost this process in contemporary times. With the end of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) in 2019, several of its councils were paralyzed and discontinued, such as the Infrastructure and Planning Council (Cosiplan), reflecting the abandonment of efforts built since the beginning of the 21st century. In addition, relations between national preferences and the indispensable search for development, and mechanisms of cooperation and regional integration, which are fundamental instruments to meet such demands, were stressed. In turn, a scenario of discredited institutions made room for greater action by multiple public and private, internal and increasingly international and multinational actors who, in a way disconnected from regional arrangements, directed infrastructure investments focusing on their own interests, resulting in expiation of the the socio-environmental vulnerability in the Amazonian territories. We argue that it is necessary to integrate to preserve and develop. Regional governance and institutionality are central pillars for the resumption of a more resilient South American integration process, aimed at protecting and developing the Amazon, in which Brazil has an important driving role to be exercised and a directive leadership to retrieve.

The article seeks to identify if cryptocurrency white papers bring purely technical positions. The research is justified on the growing discussion regarding the regulation of cryptocurrencies. Aside this discussion, there is a scenario in which cryptocurrencies seem to have emerged precisely from an attempt to move away from authoritative public control. At first, we analyzed the conceptualization of white papers, and their purposes. Subsequently, we evaluated the content of the cryptocurrency white papers with the highest market cap at the time of the esearch. We identified the presence of political-ideological content coupled with the technical content in these documents. Finally, the presented result shows that political-ideological elements in white papers can serve the regulating agent in their decision-making process, either to decide whether or not to regulate, but also to define the limits of their performance.

This paper includes an analysis of academic papers that focus on cultural aspects written by MA students in the ‘Teach & Learn in Spain’ program at Instituto Franklin-UAH. The percentage of academic papers focusing on cultural aspects written by these students who acted as Language Assistants (LAs) in bilingual schools in Spain is quite high. This suggests the importance of the cultural component in the teaching of English as a second language and their high level of sociocultural awareness. Thus, this paper has several objectives: a) to determine the existence of a specific sociocultural awareness in research papers; b) to identify the cultural aspects that were considered essential by the LAs in this program and show the strategies used to provide information; and c) to compare findings considering the theoretical background. The method will rely on a mixt approach considering quantitative and qualitative analyses and will be specific for each of the objectives.

Este artigo visa apresentar como os veículos de mídia brasileiros apareceram na cobertura dos principais jornais e agências de notícias internacionais que trabalharam no país durante os anos do Regime Militar (1964-1985). Com este trabalho historiográfico, a pesquisa apresentada permite que se ampliem estudos sobre: as distinções entre os métodos de censura aplicados a veículos nacionais e internacionais; o decorrer das mudanças nas políticas externas brasileiras e estadunidenses ao longo dos 21 anos de ditadura, refletidas no jornalismo transnacional; a evolução midiática nacional e sua influência política, considerando as alterações no modelo jornalístico, outorgadas pela realidade da Guerra Fria. Este artigo ambiciona uma proposta interdisciplinar e transnacional para o objeto oferecido.

This paper aimed to determine the quality indexes for paper and cellulose based on the fiber features from two wood species of interest, Eucalyptus pellita and E. tereticornis. The mean annual increment (IMA) was calculated by measuring DBH and Height (25 years), a 10 cm disk from each tree was collected for density determinations and anatomical studies for cellulose and paper. Tree height, trunk diameter at 1.30 m in height (DBH), and volume per tree were higher in E. pellita when compared to E. tereticornis. The volume per hectare and average annual increment were higher in E. tereticornis compared to E. pellita. Based on the quality indexes calculated from fiber dimensions, we did not observe any variation in flexibility coefficient between the two species; however, this index was more heterogeneous with the lowest value in E. tereticornis pith. Eucalyptus pellita showed a lower wall fraction value, including a lower overall value in pith. The Runkel index was lowest in E. pellita; in addition, the highest value, above 1, was found in pith position in E. tereticornis. The slenderness index did not differ between species and it was not possible to detect which had performed better. The results indicate that E. pellita and E. tereticornis have potential for the production of paper with high mechanical resistance, such as writing, printing and packaging. The wood of both species has potential for use in producing paper and cellulose.

Objetive. To know some characteristics of the communication channels used by the Brazilian Archival community. Method. It’s a bibliometric study about the prestige of scientific journals in articles of Brazilians archival science journals in order. The study use analysis of citations, with a random sample of complete 116 references of journal articles, and select reference data from the ABCDM database, from the Universidade de Brasília, which were exported into MS-Excel and SPSS. Results. The results present rankings of document types, journal titles and their countries, as well as the most frequent languages of these references. 78 channel types were identified, specially books (32.42%) and journal articles (22.46%). Among the 180 identified journal titles (89 Brazilian and 91 from other countries), the Brazilian most cited were Estudos Históricos (7.66%), Ciência da Informação (7.48%), Arquivo & Administração (5.47%), DataGramaZero (3.65%), Acervo (3.47%) and Arquivística.net (3.47%). Among foreigners, the most cited journals were Archivaria (6.02%), Archival Science (4.20%), American Archivist (3.47%) and Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (2.19%). The countries with the most cited journals were Brazil (61.86%), United States (12.04%) and Canada (11.31%). The most mentioned language in the references were Portuguese (63.32%) and English (30.11%). Conclusions. The search to results point to a significant lack of specific current Brazilian journals and show that results resemble those of other research areas related to information areas in general, showing that Archival Science keep scientific communication features common to other areas of information in Brazil.

As it is environmentally sensitive, the pulp and paper sector carry out social and environmental actions to mitigate the negative effects of production. Socioenvironmental evidence is the strategy that companies use to demonstrate social and environmental actions; therefore, this study aims to analyze the evolution of socioenvironmental evidence of Brazilian pulp and paper companies. To this end, the content of the sector’s sustainability reports, published in the Global Reporting Initiative database, was analyzed. Data were processed through descriptive statistics and multiple factor analysis. The results show that the pattern of evidence is similar among companies. The environmental category was the most evident; however, there was a decline in disclosure levels from 2013, especially for the product responsibility category.

Mitigation of fungal biodeterioration on paper documents and artworks represents a challenge to conservators worldwide. Numerous lists of fungal species have been identified from paper collections, but are those species responsible for the respective biodeterioration phenomena or just environmental contaminants? The present work was aimed at obtaining an association between specific fungal stains and causative fungal species. 23 stains from three paper documents were sampled. Fungal structures observed in situ with optical and scanning electron microscopy were compared with the identification of isolates by molecular biology tools. Correlation between the observed fungal structures and the identified fungal isolates was achieved, varying from 13% to 64% of the samples within the three studied documents. Grey/black and dark brown stains were associated with Chaetomium globosum, C. murorum, Penicillium chrysogenum, P. commune, Myxotrichum deflexum and Stachybotrys chartarum. Eurotium rubrum was isolated from a foxing stain and Penicillium citrinum was identified on light orange stains.

There have been new facets of multilateralism, which have motivated the realignment of traditional power relations established globally, especially regarding the United States and China. This new strategic environment can be observed in changes made to the Brazilian National Defense White Paper (LBDN) of 2020, as well as in the dialectic between white papers of the United States (2017), and China (2019). To investigate these realignments and their possible impacts on the Brazilian defense sector, the analysis was carried out in two phases: (1) analysis of the general characteristics of the Defense White Papers by the USA and China; and (2) comparison of discourses conveyed in chapters on international cooperation in each Defense White Paper. Speech patterns were analyzed according to rationales of Lexical Semantics and Critical Discourse Analysis. As a result, elements of semantic fields, intertextuality and modality in discourse were pointed out as parameters that could contribute to the evaluation of cooperation and deterrence/dissuasion actions to be adopted by the USA and China in the 21st century.

La práctica artística contemporánea tuvo un espacio de reflexión y creación de opinión en las páginas de Papers d’Art. De la mano de un conjunto de voces propias e independientes se visibilizaron formas de producción artística multidisciplinarias, desde la perspectiva divulgadora de una crítica que conectaba dinámicamente los significados artísticos con los sociales y culturales. Conviene resaltar el desplazamiento del significado de la concepción del arte contemporáneo en calidad de pieza clave en la cultura intelectual, incluyendo política, filosofía, ciencia u otros formatos de creación como la música y la literatura. Partiendo del análisis de la conciencia crítica de los diferentes colaboradores y la investigación historiográfica en torno a cuestionamientos estéticos y simbólicos, se despliega una revisión del conjunto de los discursos incluidos en la sección Estudios e Investigación. Contents of the Study and Research section Abstract: Contemporary artistic practices were provided with a space for reflection and the creation of opinion in the galleries of the Fundació Espais and in the pages of its art magazine, Papers d’Art. A group of independent voices of multidisciplinary artistic production was made audible thanks to this publication that provided a critique which forged dynamic connections between artistic meaning and social and cultural contexts. This paper highlights a shift in meaning of the conception of contemporary art as a key element in intellectual culture, including politics, philosophy, science and other creative formats such as music and literature. Based on an analysis of the critical awareness of the various contributors to the magazine and on the historiographic study of certain aesthetic and symbolic questions, a review of the articles published in the Studies and Research section is detailed. No puede negarse que los llamados a publicar o Call For Papers (CFP), utilizados de manera sistemática por las llamadas revistas “depredadoras”, son importantes para las revistas de excelencia y las de segundo orden que recurren a estos anun¬cios para sus ediciones regulares, temáticas y conmemorativas. En este artículo, se exponen los resultados de una encuesta realizada en 2016 a 199 editores de revistas científicas colombianas de áreas como Ciencias Naturales, Ingeniería y Tecnología, Ciencias Médicas y de la Salud, Ciencias Agrícolas, Ciencias Sociales, Humanidades y Multidisciplinarias. 143 de las revistas estudiadas (75%) tienen una periodicidad semestral; 53 editores participantes suelen usar los anuncios de CFP con el objetivo de llamar artículos para sus ediciones regulares. De ellos, 30% (114) de los editores utiliza el sitio web de la revista para difundir sus anuncios de CFP y el 29,5% (111) el correo electrónico. Sin embargo, 66 editores no respondieron a qué tan efectivos resultaron estos anuncios para atraer artículos, al no poder determinar el porcentaje de recibidos que fueron publicados = It cannot be denied that the call for papers (CFP), used in a systematic way by the ‘predatory’ journals, are important for journals of excellence and second-class ones that turn to these announ¬cements for their regular, themed and commemoratives editions. In this article we show the results of a survey carried out in 2016 to 199 editors of Colombian scientific journals of areas such as Natural Science, Engineering and Technology, Medical Scien¬ces, Agricultural Sciences, Humanities, and Multidisciplinary Sciences. The 75% (143) of the studied journals have a biannual regularity. 37.7% (53) of the editors usually use the CFP announcements to call for articles for their regular editions. 30% (114) of the editors use the journal’s web page to issue their CFP announcements and 29.5% (111) use the e-mail. Nonetheless, 66 editors could not answer how effective were these announcements to draw articles, because they could not define the percentage of the material received that was finally published.

ABSTRACT Sugarcane bagasse, a waste material generated by the sugar-alcohol industry, is rich in lignocellulosic components such as cellulose and hemicellulose. The bagasse can be employed as a raw material in the pulp and paper industry, but is currently rarely used for this purpose, due to the availability of traditional sources such as Eucalyptus and Pinus. The objective of this work was to compare the physical and mechanical properties of papers produced using the cellulose extracted from sugarcane, Eucalyptus, and Pinus by the Kraft method. Four paper samples were produced using cellulose obtained from the following fiber sources: (I) 100% sugarcane bagasse; (II) 100% Eucalyptus; (III) 75% Eucalyptus + 25% Pinus; (IV) 75% sugarcane bagasse + 25% Pinus. Physical and mechanical tests were performed based on regulatory methodologies of the paper industry. The results indicated that the physical and mechanical characteristics of the paper produced from the sugarcane cellulose were similar to those of the traditional paper produced using Eucalyptus. Particular features such as good tearing resistance and tensile strength, as well as increased porosity and moisture, could be adjusted according to the intended use of the paper. Therefore, sugarcane bagasse can be considered a sustainable alternative to Eucalyptus and Pinus for the production of high quality paper, adding value to this agricultural residue.

Abstract The study extends the conversation on the effect that co-authorship has on the citation impact of papers by analyzing the short-term advantage of co-authored papers. The results suggest that co-authored papers have a higher short-term impact than single-authored ones in all scientific domains. The study adds insights on the use of the immediacy index as an alternative indicator to evaluate the short-term competitive advantage of co-authored papers concerning the number of citations they attract. Furthermore, the study shows the efficacy of the immediacy index in comparing the short-term impact of different groups.

Este texto apresenta reflexões sobre as narrativas científicas veiculadas nos resumos socializados no GT 20 – Psicologia da Educação das cinco últimas reuniões da Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Educação – ANPEd Centro-Oeste. Orienta-se pelo diálogo com a Teoria das representações sociais, destacando a relação dos processos comunicacionais e os themata de base como modos de se pensar a circulação e a produção do pensamento social. O eixo interpretativo privilegiou a antinomia individual-coletivo e seu potencial gerador de ambientes de pensamento no âmbito da psicologia escolar e educacional. A metodologia consistiu na análise de conteúdo de 75 títulos, seguido da análise lexical dos 45 resumos das comunicações orais, com apoio do software Iramuteq. As narrativas científicas difundidas ancoraram-se na perspectiva psicossocial, orientada pela oposição dialética do thema individual-coletivo. Destacaram-se os debates propostos pelas Teoria histórico-cultural, Teoria das representações sociais e Teoria crítica, em diálogo com a sociologia, a antropologia e a filosofia. Observou-se a interdependência entre diferentes instâncias da realidade, privilegiando investigações sobre cultura, ideologia e produção de subjetividades; aprendizagens e práticas pedagógicas; formação de professores, condições concretas de trabalho e adoecimento docente e processos comunicacionais e significações por diferentes atores sociais envolvidos na cena educacional. Além disso, foram identificados outros lócus de pesquisa, como a família, o hospital, a cidade e as mídias sociais

Estudo diplomático dos diferentes ensaios tipológicos em papel para expedição de cartas de confirmação utilizadas pela chancelaria do Príncipe Alfonso de Trastâmara sob título régio, e pelos Reis Católicos até ao final da guerra de sucessão contra Afonso V de Portugal e Juana la Beltraneja, abordando em particular formulários e elementos de validação para determinar em detalhes as diferenças com os modelos oficiais de pergaminho. Por fim, aborda-se a escolha da estrutura das cartas de misericórdia para a criação de um novo arquétipo ratificador em papel com o qual se possa fazer face à premente necessidade de agilizar a sua tramitação

This article seeks to contribute to the discussion about the role of online media in cases of public interest, in this case a financial political scandal (Thompson, 2001). For this, it was inquired into how it becomes visible (Thompson, 2001 & 2005), through Twitter, the link between the presidential candidate Sebastián Piñera and the scandal over tax havens, in particular, the case of the ‘Panama Papers’. The months of the presidential candidacy were set as the time limit, concluding in the first round of the presidential elections in Chile (between March 21 and November 19, 2017). It was concluded that on Twitter the scandal is visible through three main acts: discredit, face and take position, and two secondary acts, placed between them: unmask and federate. In this sense, social networks allow us to establish a space for questioning current democracies, for interaction with other “traditional” communication media, and ultimately to debate issues that affect citizens, as in this case the creation of Companies in tax havens by a former president and current presidential candidate. As Cardon (2010) points out, Internet expands the public space, transforming the nature of democracy.

L’objectiu d’aquest article és estudiar la importància que té l’arxiu com a eina de construcció d’una identitat nacional i si a través de la seva organització es pot veure si la dita construcció nacional ha estat reeixida o no. En aquest sentit, s’agafa l’exemple de l’Arxiu Històric Nacional d’Espanya i s’analitza des de l’organització dels primers arxius en territori espanyol fins a la construcció de l’Arxiu Històric Nacional a finals del segle xix. Mitjançant aquesta anàlisi també es posa en relleu el paper que va tenir la Història en la formació de la identitat nacional i la seva interrelació amb l’arxiu. Una ciència no podria ser sense l’altre.

Writing Studies scholars have raised concerns about framing student struggles to integrate secondary sources as an ethical problem of plagiarism. They propose, instead, framing student citation practices as transitional markers of development in which students use patchwriting to learn the discursive norms and values of academia. Patchwriting as a literacy tool for transfer of knowledge raised questions for me about whether students develop other scaffolds to aid in learning transfer. In this pilot study, I investigate student use of anchor sources, the “perfect source” that frames a student’s central argument, rhetorical structure, and/or purpose. Based on a random sample of a nationwide corpus of First-Year Writing research papers from 16 US institutions, findings show that 21 of 30 research papers (70%) revealed evidence of an anchor source. Six of the 9 papers without anchor sources show evidence of significant rhetorical problems. Results suggest evidence of knowledge transfer, as well as pedagogical implications for supporting this transitional stage in student development.

El present article analitza la relació epistolar entre el doctor Joan Solé i Pla i Josep Subirà Puig, dos familiars que des de Barcelona i Madrid es van comprometre amb l’ajut material i la promoció dels voluntaris espanyols i catalans a les files de la Legió Estrangera francesa durant la Primera Guerra Mundial. A través de la seva correspondència busquem analitzar les projeccions nacionals en disputa dels discursos sobre els voluntaris i comprovar una qüestió escassament treballada: la important cobertura i organització de la propaganda sobre els voluntaris impel·lida per Josep Subirà, qui, malgrat tot, va mantenir amb Solé i Pla una relació estreta marcada per la cordialitat familiar i l’entusiasme per les mútues activitats aliadòfiles.

This paper discusses 286 proposals and reports of Green Chemistry (GC) teaching experiences, in papers of the Journal of Chemical Education (JCEd) until 2019. The analysis was based on previous categories: source-problem, paper focus, subjects/area of knowledge, target groups, GC contents, type of approach and purpose(s) of the proposal. A list of possible characteristics of each category served as an example to compare with the information resulting from the analyses, and thus improve the discussions. In 127 papers, GC and its teaching were associated, albeit generally, with the theme of sustainability/sustainable development, which points to its potential to face environment-related aspects of chemistry in teaching. A systemic vision in the interconnection between GC and sustainability/sustainable development appeared more explicitly in 39 papers up to 2019. So far, the analysis highlights a certain reproduction of traditional chemistry teaching, and little evidence of the particularities of GC teaching. Despite the intention of inserting GC into chemistry teaching, proposals for its incorporation are often made superficially, more as an addendum or an extra quality than a specific goal. More methodological detail of the experiments carried out is needed to help in the dissemination of GC in the training curriculum of chemists. The discussions and reports on teaching approaches based on Systems Thinking showed the opening of a promising new methodological challenge within this theoretical paradigm.

Conservation environment with high humidity content or exposure to liquid water are directly linked to degradation of cellulosic materials, such as paper and fabrics. This research had as main objective the development of formulations based on two water-repellent products commercially available: a fluoroacrylic co-polymer and a polydimethylsiloxane. The purpose was to test their applicability to paper and textiles, both ancient and modern. Different analytical techniques have been used: FTIR-ATR spectroscopy, colorimetric analysis, observations by SEM-EDX and light microscopy, contact angle measurement and mechanical strength. Applications were carried out by spray and immersion achieving a systematization of the method and the choice of non-toxic solvents. Two of the four formulations tested were prepared with the addition also of silica nanoparticles. The results highlighted the compatibility and effectiveness of fluoroacrylic polymer with low nanosilica percentages applied by immersion.

Paulo Freire is the most cited author in bibliographic references of papers in the Brazilian area of Science Education destined for teacher training. However, analytical-contextual knowledge on this is lacking and still requires further investigation. For example, what would be the profile of the citations? In which types of citations does Freire appear? For what purpose? Why? To answer most of these questions, this study aims to analyze Paulo Freire citations in papers from the Brazilian area of Science Education. We carried out a Bibliometric survey where we analyzed citations. We researched five journals: Ciência & Educação, Ensaio Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências, Investigações em Ensino de Ciências, Revista Brasileira de Pesquisa em Educação em Ciências, and Alexandria: Revista de Educação em Ciência e Tecnologia. If Freire's ideas have been challenged within the restricted environment of a few political parties in Brazil, in the area of scientific knowledge there was an opposite effect: in research on teacher training in the Brazilian area of Science Education, Paulo Freire's theoretical and methodological contributions prevailed quantitatively and qualitatively in citations characterized as organic, conceptual, evolutionary and confirmatory.

This paper aims to carry out a diachronic analysis of Brazilian scientific productivity in the Library and Information Science field as indexed by the Scopus database for the period 1986-2015. We also analyze the main journals that publish Brazilian contributions, compare the impact of Brazilian production between papers published in Latin language journals and those in English, and identify the primary language of Brazilian papers and the main collaborating countries. We carried out a search on Brazilian scientific productivity in the analyzed field in the Scopus database for the studied period. Then, through a manual filter, we identified a corpus of 1,195 papers. Of the 90 journals identified, 26 journals were considered the main venues for Brazilian Library and Information Science research. These were grouped using multivariate cluster analysis. The main collaborating countries were grouped based on normalized values of co-authorship using Salton's cosine measure. Since 2006, Brazilian scientific production has experienced a similar growth tendency as the rest of the world. We observed that Brazilian journals, publishing in Portuguese, formed a cluster, while English and Spanish language journals clustered separately. We observed that papers published in English received on average more citations than those papers published in other languages.

In this work, the peels of ripe banana (Musa sp.), variety “Prata”, were used to prepare a flour, which was evaluated for its physicochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity. The characterization of its chemical profile was performed by a fast and simple method: paper spray-mass spectrometry. This flour had high carbohydrate content and total dietary fiber, and significant amount of total phenolic compounds with antioxidant activity. In addition, this flour exhibited higher water-holding, oil-holding and swelling capacities than those of fruit by-products reported in the literature. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the presence of functional groups of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, constituents of insoluble dietary fiber. By the paper spray-mass spectrometry technique, it was possible to suggest the presence of 26 substances such as organic acids, phenolic acids, flavonoids, sugars, quinones, and terpenoids. Thus, this study demonstrated that the ripe banana peel flour has potential application as an ingredient for functional foods.

This article presents an exploratory study about the use of the word “metacognition” in papers published in Science and Mathematics Teaching Brazilian journals of stratum A1 and A2 of CAPES, from 2007 to 2017. The corpus of the research was constituted of 430 papers that were analysed by the procedures of Content Analysis. Two interpretative movements were carried out: the first focused on the general intentionality of the article, exploring the contexts in which the word metacognition was used, systematized in six emerging categories: Learning Process; Metacognitive process; Teacher training; Evaluation Instrument; Learning Object and Learning Environment; the second focused on the meanings of the word metacognition presented in the articles, from which thirteen categories emerged: Metacognitive Process; Metacognitive strategy; Metacognitive Ability; Metacognitive Character; Metacognitive thinking; Learning; Metacognitive Knowledge; Teacher Metacognition; Self-regulation; Awareness raising; Metacognitive Competence; Metacognitive Model and Metacognitive Level. From these analyzes resulted what we call the „general diagram‟, which represents a synthesis of researches about metacognition published in Science and Mathematics Teaching Brazilian journals in the last 11 years.

Introduction: The National Scientific Congress (NSC) is an annual event held in Peru in which medical students from all over the country present their research work. Objectives: To determine the publication rate in indexed scientific journals of research papers submitted to the NSCs held between 2010 and 2014, as well as the factors associated with their publication, and to describe the characteristics of the published papers. Materials and methods: Retrospective study in which 407 abstracts of research papers were reviewed. A publication time window of 6 years (from submission) was considered. A bivariate analysis was performed to assess differences between categorical and numerical variables using the chi-square and Mann-Whitney U tests, respectively. In addition, a multivariate analysis was performed using Poisson regression models (a crude and an adjusted model), calculating relative risk (RR) values with their respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) to determine the factors associated with the publication of papers. The proposition of thinking about the Organizational Studies from Latin America (LA) has as its premise to acknowledge that epistemology is political and that there exists an epistemology of domination which is inseparable from its material foundation. First, this essay discusses the meaning of LA, arguing that it is both a geopolitical space and a category of analysis. It then analyzes Organizational Studies in LA from the Brazilian perspective. Finally, the study emphasizes the importance of knowledge based on a critical ethic that contributes to make organizational processes that confront the multiple concrete expressions of coloniality visible, which be also relevant to struggling communities and collectives.

ABSTRACT Objective: To report the process of organization and construction of an information technology structure named Nursing Activities Score (NAS) Cloud Technology®. Method: This project was based on the life cycle theory and has enabled the development of technological production through software engineering. Results: The NAS Cloud Technology® was developed for remote and collaborative access on a website hosted by Google Sites® and protected in a business environment by the certified security and data protection devices Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). In 2015, this system received more than 10.000 submissions/month, totaling 12 care units for critical patients covered by the information technology structure, circa 200 nurses per day involved in the collection and hundreds of daily submissions, integrating the complete transition from paper to cloud. Conclusion: The development of NAS Cloud Technology® system has enabled the use of technology as a facilitating means for the use of Nursing care data, providing tools for decision-making on the nursing personnel sizing required for the care demands in the inpatient care units. The potential of cloud structures stands out due to their possibility of innovation, as well as low-cost access and high replicability of the information system.
