Over the last dozen of years Poland, on a global scale, from a large exporter of pork and pigs has become the considerable importer of weaners; we also import porkers and pork. There are many reasons for this dramatic change in swine production. Certainly, one of the most important is the high degree of infections with both pathogenic and facultatively pathogenic agents in swine herds. In Polish pig farms the animals are often heavily infected with both bacterial and viral pathogens. Under these conditions, similarly to the chronic stress, immune system is overstimulated and forced to constant battle against intruders, what subsequently results in exhaustive immune disorders. This article presents the negative consequences of the excessive, prolonged the immune reactivity and the ways to counteract these conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
