Purpose: We aimed to identify collaborative disaster governance through the demand and supply analysis of resources recognized by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: We used a descriptive study design with an online survey technique for data collection. The survey questions were developed based on focus group interviews with nurses responding to COVID-19 and expert validity testing. A 42-question online survey focusing on disaster governance was sent to nurses working in COVID-19 designated hospitals, public health offices, and schools. A total of 630 nurses participated in the survey. Demand and supply analysis was used to identify the specific components of disaster governance during a pandemic situation and analyze priority areas in disaster governance, as reported by nurses., Results: Demand and supply analysis showed that supplies procurement, cooperation, education, and environment factors clustered in the high demand and supply quadrant while labor condition, advocacy, emotional support, and workload adjustment factors clustered in the high demand but low supply quadrant, indicating a strong need in those areas of disaster governance among nurses. The nurses practicing at the public health offices and schools showed major components of disaster governance plotted in the second quadrant, indicating weak collaborative disaster governance., Conclusion: These findings show that there is an unbalanced distribution among nurses, resulting in major challenges in collaborative disaster governance during COVID-19. Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the factors explaining protective behaviors against radiation exposure in perioperative nurses based on the theory of planned behavior., Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. A total of 229 perioperative nurses participated between October 3 and October 20, 2021. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 software. The three exogenous variables (attitude toward radiation protective behaviors, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control) and two endogenous variables (radiation protective intention and radiation protective behaviors) were surveyed., Results: The hypothetical model fit the data (χ²/df = 1.18, SRMR = .02, TLI = .98, CFI = .99, RMSEA = .03). Radiation protective intention (β = .24, p = .001) and attitude toward radiation protective behaviors (β = .32, p = .002) had direct effects on radiation protective behaviors. Subjective norm (β = .43, p = .002) and perceived behavior control (β = .24, p = .003) had direct effects on radiation protective intention, which explained 38.0% of the variance. Subjective norm (β = .10, p = .001) and perceived behavior control (β = .06, p = .002) had indirect effects via radiation protective intention on radiation protective behaviors. Attitude toward radiation protective behaviors, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control were the significant factors explaining 49.0% of the variance in radiation protective behaviors., Conclusion: This study shows that the theory of planned behavior can be used to effectively predict radiation protective behaviors in perioperative nurses. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate a computerized touch-screen version of the asthma-specffic quality-of-life (cA-QOL) questionnaire against the conventional paper-and-pencil version (pA-QOL) for equivalence, time for completion, user preference, and ease of use. Methods: A total of 261 patients were recruited. A randomized cross-over design was used. Patients in group A completed the cA-QOL first while waiting to see a physician, and completed the pA- QOL version after seeing the physician. Patients allocated in group B completed these questionnaires in the reverse order. The patients were asked questions about user preference and ease of use of the cA-QOL. The time taken to complete both versions of the questionnaire was measured. Results: Weighted kappa coefficients of all items showed almost per- fect agreement. The time required to complete the pA-QOL is faster than the time for cA-QOL. The patients who preferred the cA-QOL were 37.5%, while those who preferred the pA-QOL were 29.9%. Most patients reported that the cA-QOL was "easy" or "very easy" to complete. Conclusion: The cA-QOL is the computerized equivalent of the pA-QOL. The findings herein demonstrate that the cA-QOL can be helpful to nurses in busy practices for assessing, collecting, and evaluating their patients' health related quality of life. Purpose: This study aimed to develop a situation-specific theory to explain nurses' experiences of the COVID-19 crisis., Methods: The participants were 16 hospital nurses who experienced the COVID-19 crisis. Data were collected through in-depth individual interviews from September 2, 2020 to January 20, 2021. Transcribed interview contents were analyzed using Corbin and Strauss's grounded theory method., Results: A total of 38 concepts and 13 categories were identified through an open coding process. The core category found was becoming a pioneering nurse who turns crises into opportunities. The causal conditions were the chaos of being exposed defenselessly to an unexpected pandemic, fear caused by a nursing care field reminiscent of a battlefield, and moral distress from failing to protect patients' human dignity. The contextual conditions were feeling like the scapegoat of the hospital organization, increasing uncertainty due to the unpredictable state of COVID-19, and relative deprivation due to inappropriate treatment. The central phenomenon was suffering alone while experiencing the dedication of the COVID-19 hero image. The action/interactional strategy were efforts to find a breakthrough and getting the nurse's mind right, and the intervening conditions were gratitude for those who care for broken hearts and getting used to myself with repetitive work. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explain a structural model of posttraumatic growth among psychiatric nurses based on existing models and a literature review and verify its effectiveness., Methods: Data were collected from psychiatric nurses in one special city, four metropolitan cities, and three regional cities from February to March 2016. Exogenous variables included hardiness and distress perception, while endogenous variables included self-disclosure, social support, deliberate rumination, and posttraumatic growth. Data from 489 psychiatric nurses were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0 and AMOS 20.0., Results: The modified model was a good fit for the data. Tests on significance of the pathways of the modified model showed that nine of the 14 paths were supported, and the explanatory power of posttraumatic growth by included variables in the model was 69.2%. For posttraumatic growth among psychiatric nurses, deliberate rumination had a direct effect as the variable that had the largest influence. Indirect effects were found in the order of hardiness, social support, and distress perception. Self-disclosure showed both direct and indirect effects., Conclusion: A strategy to improve deliberate rumination is necessary when seeking to improve posttraumatic growth among psychiatric nurses. Enhancing psychiatric nurses' hardiness before trauma would enable them to actively express negative emotions after trauma, allowing them to receive more social support. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to define and clarify the concept of political competence for nurses., Methods: A hybrid model method was used to investigate the dimensions, attributes, and definitions of the concept. In the theoretical stage of the study, literature on nursing, politics, and other discipline were reviewed. In the fieldwork stage, individual in-depth interviews and focus groups interviews were conducted with politically seasoned experts or activists who had an understanding of the concept of political competence for extensive descriptions in nursing and field of health care., Results: The concept of political competence was represented in four dimensions as political knowledge, political efficacy, political interaction, and political activity. In the political knowledge dimension, there were three attributes, namely, political knowledge, political information and systematic analysis ability. The political efficacy dimension had three attributes of internal political efficacy, external political efficacy, and self-pride of nursing profession. The political interaction dimension had three attributes of organizations and community service, networking, and persuasive power. Conflicts between healthcare professionals and patients are caused and aggravated by differences in views on healthcare professionals' beneficence. Healthcare professionals may consider a certain beneficent act to be a recommendation, whereas the patient may consider the act to be an obligation that the healthcare professionals must follow. Healthcare professionals do not regard such acts to be an obligation; thus, healthcare professionals may not perform the act of beneficence. Patients who believe that the act is the healthcare professionals' obligation may misunderstand and distrust their healthcare professional. It is necessary to establish the right concept for healthcare professionals' beneficence; therefore, the distinction between obligatory beneficence and ideal beneficence must take precedence. In this paper, I argue that discussion on the obligatory beneficence of nurses should be required among healthcare professionals. Nursing is a profession that involves directly helping all individuals, homes, and communities; thus, nurses are forced to perform forms of beneficence outside the scope of their duties, including moral ideal forms. Failing to divide beneficence into moral ideals and obligations and emphasizing unlimited sacrifice and devotion to nurses can deteriorate the treatment of nurses and exhaust nurses with enthusiasm. In this paper, I critically reviewed the duty of rescue proposed by Tom L. Beauchamp and James F. Childress within the nurse-patient relationship. I hypothesized that the duty of rescue can be used to define the scope of nurses' obligatory beneficence. The duty of rescue consists of five individual conditions, which I examined in relation to the special nature of nurse-patient relationship. I applied the duty of rescue to the four hypothetical and practicable cases to confirm that it is possible to apply the duty of rescue to define obligatory beneficence among nursing professionals. I expect that identifying the nature of beneficence using the duty of rescue will present a feasible and sustainable nurse image and provide an opportunity to improve the therapeutic relationship between nurses and patients. Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to investigate clinical nurses’ knowledge and educational needs about dizziness. One of the most frequent complaints among adult persons visiting the hospital is experiencing dizziness. Clinical nurses in the hospital play a crucial role in managing such patients. Methods: Our paper is a cross-sectional survey using structured instruments to evaluate clinical nurses’ knowledge and educational needs about dizziness. This study was conducted January through February 2018. Subjects were 246 clinical nurses in an outpatient, intensive care, internal medicine unit and emergency department at university hospital. Data were analyzed using SPSS statistics 21. Results: The average ofdizziness knowledge score was 57.66±23.75 (range 0-100) and educational need was 3.55±.47(range 0-5). There were significant differences in dizziness knowledge according to age (p<.001), working unit (p<.001), career duration (p<.001), change experience of unit (p<.001), dizziness patient care experience and participation in dizziness education (p<.001). There was positive correlation between knowledge of dizziness and the need for dizziness education (r=.26 p<.001). Conclusion: Results of this paper indicate that a dizziness education program is urgently needed for clinical nurses. Such a program should be seriously considered based on our results. Purpose: To examine the characteristics, core variables, and their correlations in articles published in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration (JKANA) from 2012-2021 and suggest future directions for nursing management research. Methods: A total of 506 articles were analyzed according to study design, participants and setting, statistical methods, keywords, and core concepts and variables. Results: Quantitative research accounted for 73.5%, and most participants were staff nurses (66.8%) and nursing students (9.1%). Furthermore, 318 studies (62.8%) conducted surveys, and settings were mainly acute hospitals(81.5%) and nursing schools (9.7%). Statistical methods for data analysis included independent t-test (81.2%), one-way ANOVA (77.2%), Pearson correlation coefficients (77.2%), post-hoc testing (74.3%), and linear regression(65.9%). Among 2,058 keywords, the most frequent were "nurses" (49.2%), "job satisfaction" (10.7%), and "personnel turnover" (9.1%). The most frequently core concepts were job satisfaction (10.5%), turnover intention(9.5%), organizational commitment (8.5%), and job stress (7.5%). The most frequently variables with significant correlations were turnover intention, work environment, job satisfaction, job stress, burnout, and emotional labor. Conclusion: Most JKANA studies examined nursing-related outcomes and performance. Future research should examine the effects of nursing practice and policy on patient outcomes. This study was performed systematic review and meta-analysis for a comprehensive analysis of the empowerment related variables of clinical nurses in South Korea. Analysis were conducted in accordance with PRISMA guideline, and a total 71 papers were selected. Antecedent variables of empowerment were a total of 16 variables and 56 effect sizes, and showed the total effect size of 0.38 (95% CI: 0.31∼0.44). Outcome variables empowerment were a total of 12 variables and 105 effect sizes, and the showed total effect size of 0.45 (95% CI: 0.41∼0.48). This study showed the trends of studies and investigated the effect size of related variables objectively in the perspective of empowerment of Korean clinical nursing. This study has significance in that it presented the reliable evidence for the positive effect of empowerment on individuals, jobs, and organizations through reliable and valid research methodology. Purpose: This study was done to identify trends in leadership-related research by reviewing studies on hospital nurses in South Korea. Methods: The research was conducted from April 2 to 14, 2018 and search databases were RISS, KISS, DBpia, KM base, NAL, and NDSL. Search terms were 'leadership' and 'nursing' in the Korean language, and total 141 papers were selected. Results: Analysis of the research on leadership showed that 96.4% of research methods were quantitative research, and 60.3% were predictive researches. For study settings, 46.2% were general hospitals, 96.5% were staff nurses. In the study of leadership variables, 60.3% were independent variables and recent leadership was used as a mediating variable (4.3%) and a moderating variable (2.8%). Among the leadership types, self-leadership (31.2%) was the most common, and the main variable related to leadership was job satisfaction (25.8%). Conclusion: These results provide useful data for deriving new research ideas about nursing leadership. Furthermore, this study has significance for providing the evidence for developing new leadership programs and policies in nursing organizations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Patient handovers are critical for patient safety. Studies have shown that nurses are often interrupted during handovers, and standardized guidelines are lacking. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a new handover method for emergency nurses. Methods: This quasi-experimental study implemented a new handover method from August 1, 2022, at the emergency department of a university hospital. Pre- (34 responses) and post- (16 responses, six months later) surveys and post-interviews (six participants) were conducted. In the pre-survey, data were collected regarding handover-related characteristics, cause of handover error, handover perception and handover error experience. Data regarding handover perception and handover error experience were obtained again at the post-survey. Wilcoxon's signed rank test was used to compare handover perception and handover error experience. The interview results were analyzed using inductive content analysis. Results: There were no significant differences in information quality or interaction and support, but the new handover method was more efficient, and handover errors decreased. Four themes were identified from interview responses. Conclusion: By providing a quiet place and allowing emergency nurses to independently review patient records during handovers, we expect to maintain nursing continuity, increase efficiency, and ultimately ensure patient safety and nurses' job satisfaction. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to burnout of nurses working at intensive care units. Methods: The subjects of this study included 149 nurses in intensive care units at six general hospitals. The data was analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used. Results: The factors significantly affecting burnout included work stress ‘high to very high’ (β=.39, p<.001), communication skill (β=-.24, p=.001), subjective health status ‘normal’ (β=.22, p=.001) and ‘bad to very bad’ (β=.20, p=.002) and problem-driven coping (β=-.19, p=.010) in order, and the explanatory power of these factors to the burnout was 46.3%. Conclusion: Based on the results, effective interventions need to be provided to improve intensive care unit nurses’ health conditions and to relieve their work stress. It is necessary to develop practical strategies to improve nurses’ communication and stress coping skills to reduce their burnout. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To estimate the number of practicing nurses required to resolve staffing differences between capital and non-capital regions and analyze the relationship between regional differences in staffing and salary. Methods: Using public data on population, patients, newly licensed nurses, practicing nurses, and annual salaries, regional differences were analyzed in newly licensed nurses per population, practicing nurses per population, practicing nurses per patient (i.e., staffing level), and salary. The number of additionally required practicing nurses was estimated by multiplying staffing differences by the number of patients in the lower-staffed region. Results: During 2002~2022, 71,107 and 243,611 newly licensed nurses were supplied, while the number of practicing nurses increased by 91,886 and 88,070 in the capital and non-capital regions, respectively. The non-capital region had more practicing nurses per population, whereas the capital region had more practicing nurses per patient. In 2020, 31,330 practicing nurses were additionally required in the non-capital region. Salaries were higher in the capital region, and regional salary differences increased during 2011~2020. Regional salary differences were associated with regional staffing differences and the number of additionally required practicing nurses. Conclusion: Government and health insurance policies are required to encourage hospitals in the non-capital region to improve staffing and salaries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify a theoretical basis of end-of-life care by examining attributes of the concept of the nurses' acceptance of patient deaths. Methods: Walker and Avant's approach to concept analysis was used. A literature study was performed to check the usage of the concept. To identify the attributes of the concept and come up with an operational definition, we analyzed 16 qualitative studies on nurses' experiences of death of patients, published in a national science magazine from 1999 to 2015. Results: The nurses' acceptance of death of patients was identified as having four attributes: acceptance through mourning, attaining insight on life and death while ruminating life, facing with fortitude and practicing human dignity. Antecedents of the concept were experiences of patient's death, confusion and conflict, negative emotions, passive responses, denial of patients' death. The consequences of the concept were found as the holistic end-of-life care and active pursuit of life. Conclusion: This study on the attributes of the concept of the nurses' acceptance of death of patients and it's operational definition will likely lay the foundation for applicable end-of-life care mediations and theoretical development. Purpose: Cancer patients need ongoing care from healthcare providers to maintain continuity of treatment. Much research has been conducted on digital health services for providing continuous management of discharged cancer patients. This review aimed to identify nurse-led digital health interventions for discharged cancer patients. Methods: This scoping review was conducted using JBI methodology. The population was post-discharge adult cancer patients, the concept was nurse-led digital health intervention, and the context was open. Databases including PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, KoreaMed, and RISS were searched. Data were summarized about the general characteristics of the article, participants, interventions, and outcomes. Results: Fifty-seven studies were included, with ten studies that focused on the elderly. One third of the participants included in this review had colorectal cancer (32.7%). Telephone was the most frequently used format, while the others were applications, the internet, and telemonitor- ing. The nurses' main roles consisted of counseling, symptom monitoring, and education. Conclusion: The development of nurse-led digital health intervention for the elderly will be necessary, and studies using more diverse technologies will need to be conduct- ed. Digital health interventions for post-discharge colorectal cancer patients could be applied in practice. Nurses should provide emotional support while providing digital health interventions. Purpose : This study explores the professional status of Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) in Korea, who, despite being legally certified, face instability in their professional standing, including their scope of practice and compensation. Method : The study uses Flexner's professional characteristics as a framework to analyze and project the future trajectory of Korean APNs. Results : First, to ensure social accountability, professional bodies need to establish uniform nursing policies related to job roles, and healthcare institutions must adhere to these policies. Second, nursing leaders should spearhead the creation of nursing knowledge essential for the profession's advancement, aiming to establish it as the foundation for nursing practice through a consensus process within the nursing community. Third, the curriculum for APNs should enhance the quantitative and qualitative aspects of practice in response to societal needs. Fourth, professional bodies should formulate consistent nursing policies based on a thorough analysis of the healthcare environment and legal considerations, and guide their implementation in clinical practice through a consensus process within the nursing community. Lastly, guidelines should be established for professional standards suitable for the Korean context. Conclusion : Based on this review, it is recommended that all APNs adhere to the professional standards set by their respective organizations, actively participate in personal quality improvement initiatives, and fulfill their duties and roles as members of these professional bodies. Furthermore, these organizations should devise practical strategies to solidify the APN system and should spearhead a systematic consensus process that garners the agreement of all members within the nursing community. Purpose: In this paper issues and challenges of the workforce policy for nursing were explored and appropriate policy responses identified. Results: Many countries, including South Korea, are facing a shortage of nurses. In South Korea, the number of practicing registered nurses is about half the average for Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member countries. The shortage of nurses is not necessarily a shortage of individuals with nursing qualifications but also includes complex issues, such as lack of well-educated nurses, shortage of nurses willing to work, and geographical imbalances of nurses. The present nurse workforce policies are to increase number of nursing schools, to reduce the length of training, and to replace nurses with nursing assistants. However, the findings of many studies have shown that these attempts resulted in a worsening of patient outcomes and increasingly low quality of care. Conclusion: The findings in this study indicate that nurse workforce policy should have a multi-faceted approach in order to address the many factors affecting nurse shortages. Purpose: To synthesize and identify the studies that delineated the relationship between empowerment and job satisfaction in clinical nurses in Korea. Methods: Electronic databases were searched, including KmBase, KoreaMed. riss4u, National Assembly Digital Library and National Discovery for Science Leaders (NDSL) The search terms included nurse, satisfaction and empowerment. Only papers published in Korean were included. Results: Twelve studies, from 156 references screened, were included the final analysis. All studies were non-experimental and used correlational analysis. A significant positive relationship between structural or psychological empowerment and job satisfaction was found. Older nurses with longer clinical experience and higher education background were more likely to have high level of structural and psychological empowerment and job satisfaction. Conclusion: The study results indicate that to produce an empowering work environment, nurse managers have to create a supportive organizational culture, and provide access to resources and opportunity as well as to strengthen emotional support. Purpose: This paper analyzed the historical origins of the Qi concept and assesses its possible contributions to the development of complementary therapy and new nursing practices., Methods: In order to clarify the Qi concept and measure its theoretical/clinical potentials, this study analyzed both historical data and experimental research that adopt and apply the concept. These include modern/contemporary research measuring its effects in promoting mental and physical health. Using the method of cross-cultural comparison, this study analyzed diverse approaches to the Qi concept and sought to find common features among the approaches., Results: A historical, cross-cultural analysis revealed several fundamental similarities between Qi theories that have developed in the east and the holistic concepts that have evolved in the western traditions. Especially, the analysis of the more recent research on the Qi concept shows ample possibilities of its future contributions to the development of new diagnostic applications and the promotion of overall human health., Conclusion: The historical study of the Qi concept found some key common factors in the diverse philosophical traditions in the east and the west. Considering the growing popularity of complementary therapy among health professionals and the general public, the Qi concept and its clinical applications are expected to promote human health. In this context, this research contributes to developing new nursing practices based on the concept by clarifying its philosophical origins and theoretical backgrounds.

Purpose: This paper was conducted to examine the effects of transformational leadership behaviors, within the substitutes for leadership model (Kerr & Jermier, 1978)., Method: Data was collected from 181 staff nurses in 3 general hospitals, with self-reporting questionnaires (MLQ developed by Bass, rd-SLS developed by Podsakoff, et al., and MSQ developed by Weiss, et al.). Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha and moderated regression analysis were used., Result: 1) The transformational leader behaviors and substitutes for leadership each had correlations with job satisfaction. 2) The total amount of variance accounted for by the substitutes for leadership was substantially greater than by the transformational leadership behaviors. 3) Few of the substitutes variables moderated the relationships between the transformational leader behaviors and job satisfaction in a manner consistent with that specified by Howell, Dorfman, and Kerr (1986)., Conclusion: The finding of this study suggest that leaders need to have a better understanding of those contextual variables that influence job satisfaction. Thus future research should focus attention on the moderating effects of substitutes, as well as the things that leaders can do to influence them. In addition, it may be good to examine the effects of substitutes on other criterion variables.

Purpose: This paper was conducted to test the reliability and validity of rd-SLS, developed by Podsakoff, et al. (1993) which measured 'substitutes for leadership'., Method: The subjects were 345 nurses in 5 general hospitals. Cronbach's and the Guttman split-half coefficient were used to test the reliability of rd-SLS. Factor analysis, and the correlations of the rv-SLS and SLS with rd-SLS were used for convergent and discriminant validity., Result: Cronbach's data was 0.76 and the Guttman split-half coefficient was 0.52. Twelve factors evolved by factor analysis, which explained 70.4% of the total variance. This result was similar to previous study results. However, 'Indifference toward organizational rewards'-related items were classified two factors. It was not clear t hat the rd-SLS consisted of 13 concepts(factors). The correlations of the rv-SLS and SLS with the rd-SLS were 0.93 and 0.87 respectively., Conclusion: The rd-SLS showed a moderate degree of validity and reliability. Thus, it is recommended to use the rd-SLS in general nursing organizations for screening for leadership substitutes. In addition, it is necessary to clarify the concept of organizational rewards. In a further study, the factor structure of the rd-SLS may be considered.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review journal articles, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations on self-leadership in nurses in order to identify overall trends in nursing self-leadership and to suggest strategies to improve self-leadership. Methods: Twenty-six papers on self-leadership in nurses were reviewed. Results: These papers were journal articles, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations regarding nurses who worked in general hospitals, university hospitals, and public health centers. Self-leadership was measured by using instruments developed by Manz (1983), Prussia, Anderson, & Manz (1998), and Houghton & Neck (2002). The instrument was composed of 18 items, with a 5-point Likert scale developed by Manz (1983) and modified by Kim (2002). Nurses' self-leadership was found to be related to job satisfaction, organizational commitment, nursing performance, and citizenship behavior. General characteristics of nurses, including age, education, marital status, position, and career, were also associated with self-leadership. Conclusion: The study findings provide data on recent trends in nurses' self-leadership. Purpose: The study aim was to examine Korean TV documentaries featuring nurses and to understand how the image of nurses has changed over time. Methods: Forty-one Korean documentaries featuring nurses were selected. The qualitative content analysis method of Elo and Kyngäs (2008) was used to identify the images of nurses. Results: Three themes emerged: "emphasis on the image of being a doctor's assistant and caring person," "image of kindness prevailing among the diverse roles of nurses," and "reports on the poor labor conditions behind the positive images of nurses." The image of nurses has gradually changed from performing a passive and auxiliary role to functioning as health care professionals. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, documentaries suggested that the poor labor conditions of nurses should be improved. Conclusion: Active publicity of nurses and nursing communities is needed using documentaries as a resource to inform the public of the various roles of nurses and promote the image of nurses as professionals. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the differences in COVID-19 work-related characteristics, workload, anxiety, stress, and burnout between nurses working in the COVID-19 designated units and those in the general units caring for both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients and to identify factors related to burnout in these two nurse groups. Methods: The study was conducted using data from 192 nurses in the COVID-19 designated units and 340 nurses in the general units from two general hospitals. The data were collected using self-report, structured questionnaires. Independent t-test, chi-squared test, and logistic regression analysis were performed. Results: There were no significant differences observed in workload and burnout between the two groups. For nurses in the general units, workload, stress, adequacy of the number of patients assigned, and the experience of temporary, floating staff were significant factors associated with burnout, while only clinical experience in the current unit was a significant factor among those in the COVID-19 units. Conclusion: Findings indicate significant differences in factors related to burnout between the two nurse groups. Purpose: This study aimed to confirm the mediating effect of social responsibility on the relationship between nurses' stress and burnout from Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in tertiary general hospitals. Methods: For this descriptive cross-sectional study, online survey data from 193 nurses in three tertiary general hospitals were analyzed. Data were collected from March 30 to April 4, 2021. The following statistical analysis were conducted: t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and Hayes Process Macro Model 4 (to test the mediating effect). Results: COVID-19 stress was positively associated with burnout (r=.28, p<.001) and social responsibility (r=.22, p=.002). Social responsibility was negatively associated with burnout (r=-.31, p<.001). Furthermore, the mediation analysis indicated that social responsibility mediated the relationship between COVID-19 stress and burnout. Conclusion: According to the results, the impact of COVID-19 stress on the burnout was mediated by social responsibility. Purpose: This study examined the variations in nursing competence and job satisfaction across different career stages. Additionally, it explored the effect of nursing competence on job satisfaction within each career stages. Methods: Participants were 468 nurses working at a university hospital in B city. Data collection was conducted using self-report questionnaires from April 1 to 15, 2020. The data were analyzed descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, and multiple regression analysis employing SPSS 23.0. Results: General nursing competence improved significantly after the proficiency stage. Care execution and critical thinking were improved as nurses progressed from the novice to the advanced beginner stage. Additionally, communication showed progress in the competent stage. Furthermore, responsibility and self-development were improved after the proficiency stage. Among the sub-competencies examined, self-development, care execution, and communication significantly influenced the job satisfaction of a nurse's career. Moreover, self-development was influential at all stages. Conclusion: This study shows that there was no substantial improvement in nursing competencies as they progressed through various career stages. Self-development was the most crucial sub-competence impacting job satisfaction, with the effects of the sub-competencies varying across career stages. Purpose: This study was to examine the influential factors on patient safety management activities of operating room nurses in general hospitals. Methods: The subject of this study were 133 operating room nurses of seven general hospitals in B metropolitan city. Data were collected from July 23 to August 14, 2020 using self-report questionnaires. For data analysis, a descriptive analysis and stepwise multiple regression were utilized with IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows version 22.0. Results: The significant predictors of patient safety management activities were perception of patient safety culture (β=.73, p<.001) and physical burden (β=-.13, p=.025). These variables were found to contribute 56.3% to the outcomes of patient safety management activities. Conclusion: Based on the research results, to promote patient safety management activities of operating room nurses, it is required to establish active and multifaceted strategies and systems at the hospital level to enhance awareness of patient safety culture and reduce physical burden. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to the professional quality of life of nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: A descriptive survey was conducted among 144 nurses with more than 3 months of work experience in five long-term care hospitals in B metropolitan city. Data were collected from April 15 to 30, 2022 and analyzed using the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney test, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The regression model explained 51% of the variance of long-term care hospital nurses' compassion satisfaction (F=35.72, p<.001). Significant factors were dementia attitude (β=.23, p=.001), professional self-concept (β=.51, p<.001), marital status (married) (β= .16, p=.019) and more than 10 years of clinical experience at a long-term care hospital (β= -.29, p<.001). The regression model explained 36% of the variance of long-term care hospital nurses' compassion fatigue (F=12.93, p<.001). Significant factors were dementia attitude (β=-.27, p=.001), burden on behavioral psychological symptoms of dementia (β=.38, p<.001), women (β=.20, p=.005), more than 10 years of clinical experience at a long-term care hospital (β=.20, p=.004) and experience in education about dementia (yes) (β=-.16, p=.029). Conclusion: This study revealed several factors that are correlated with the professional quality of life of long-term care hospital nurses. To improve their quality of life, hospitals should help nurses have a positive attitude toward dementia, reduce the burden of behavioral psychological symptoms of dementia, and provide dementia care training. Purpose: The usability, user satisfaction, and impact of electronic nursing record (ENR) systems were investigated. Methods: This mixed-method research was performed as a time-motion (TM) study and a survey which were carried out at six hospitals between August and November 2013. The TM study involved 108 nurses from medical, surgical, and intensive care units at each hospital, plus an additional 48 nurses who served as nonparticipating observers. In the survey, 1879 volunteer nurses completed the Impact of ENR Systems Scale, the System Usability Scale, and a global satisfaction scale. Qualitative and quantitative analyses were performed. Results: The mean scores for the ENR impact, system usability, and satisfaction were 4.28 (out of 6), 58.62 (out of 100), and 74.31 (out of 100), respectively, and they differed significantly between hospitals (F=43.43, p<.001, F=53.08 and p<.001, and F=29.13 and p<.001, respectively). A workflow fragmentation assessment revealed different patterns of ENR system use among the included hospitals. Three user characteristics-educational background, practice period, and experience of using paper records-significantly affected the system usability and satisfaction scores. Conclusion: The system quality varied widely among the ENR systems. The generally low-to-moderate levels of system usability and user satisfaction suggest many opportunities for improvement. Purpose: This descriptive survey study was conducted to determine the degree of implementation of anticancer drug safety management guidelines by nurses handling anticancer drugs, safety motivation, safety control, ward safety culture, and anticancer drug safety guidelines. Methods: The subjects of this study were 136 nurses working in the designated ward for anticancer drug treatment, and data collection was conducted from November 3rd to November 16, 2021. Collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistics 28.0 program by frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: As a result of analyzing the effects of the subjects' knowledge of anticancer drug safety management guidelines, safety motivation, safety control, and ward safety culture on the implementation of anticancer drug safety guidelines, it was found to be knowledge of anticancer drug safety management guidelines (β=22), with 7.0% of the explanatory power. Conclusion: The factors influencing the implementation of anticancer drug safety management guidelines were found to be anticancer drug safety management guidelines, and it is suggested that follow-up studies be conducted to develop educational programs and interventions to improve anticancer drug safety guidelines. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of disaster perception, disaster attitude, and communication skills on disaster nursing competence among nurse officers at armed forces hospitals. Methods: In this descriptive study, data were collected from 191 nurse officers at armed forces hospitals in Korea, using convenience sampling. Data were analyzed by conducting descriptive statistics, the independent sample t-test, one-way analysis of variance, the Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean scores for disaster perception, disaster attitude, communication skills, and disaster nursing competency were 73.02±7.66, 36.86±3.96, 57.97±6.39, and 52.88±7.66, respectively. Disaster perception was correlated with disaster attitude (r=.32, p=.002), communication skills (r=.46, p<.001) and disaster nursing competence (r=.40, p<.001). Disaster attitude was correlated with communication skills(r=.28, p<.001) and disaster nursing competence (r=.19, p=.008). Communication skills were correlated with disaster nursing competence (r=.50, p<.001). The factors influencing nurse officers' disaster nursing competence were communication skills (β=.34, p<.001), disaster perception (β=.20, p=.003), experience in disaster education (β=-.20, p=.001), experience in disaster nursing work (β=-.14, p=.022) and working experience (β=.14, p=.033). Purpose: The purpose of the study was to re-evaluate Florence Nightingale's achievements celebrating the 200th anniversary of Nightingale's birth and to reflect on her legacy. Methods: We conducted an extensive literature review with key words in Korean and English using 9 electronic databases, related data, books, articles, websites, and secondary literature. Results: As a result of this study, the five legacy of Nightingale as a social reformer were examined. First, founding nursing in response to social needs. Second, reform of the health care system. Third, a practical social activist who promoted social change for the public good. Fourth, first adoption of health statistics. Fifth, emancipation of women. Nightingale's legacy as a social reformer has had an considerable influence on our society so far. Conclusion: Nightingale was a pioneer in nursing, but she was a social reform activist who successfully transformed the medical systems and even the whole social system based on her keen insight, religious vocation, profession vision, and personal competency. In the middle of World's chaos and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems more necessary than ever to embody the legacy of Nightingale as a social reformer, and put it into practice. Purpose: This study examined the association between nurse staffing and in-hospital 30-day mortality among stroke patients considering the stroke type in the intensive care units in Korea using the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service-National Inpatient Sample 2018 (HIRA-NIS 2018). Methods: The data included a total of 2,876 stroke patients admitted to intensive care units across 72 general hospitals and 39 tertiary hospitals between January and November 2018. Nurse staffing levels were measured using the nurse staffing grades of adult intensive care units in the 2nd quarter of 2018. The relationship between nurse staffing levels and mortality were analyzed using multi-level logistic regression analysis after controlling for patient and hospital characteristics. Results: In patients with ischemic stroke, the risk of death was lower in nurse staffing Grade 5 to 6 compared to Grade 1 (Odds ratio [OR] 0.43, 95% Confidence interval [CI] 0.24~0.75). In hemorrhagic stroke patients, the risk of death tended to be higher in nurse staffing grade 5 to 6 compared to Grade 1 (OR 2.11, 95% CI 1.00~4.45), which was marginally significant (p=.050). Conclusion: Health policies for adequate nurse staffing in intensive care units should be implemented to enhance the quality of care and lead to better outcomes in patients with stroke. Purpose: This study was done to determine whether the Korean version of the cyberbullying scale developed for adolescents is applicable to newly graduated nurses. Methods: This scale was composed of 14 items with the one-factor structure to measure the degree of cyberbullying and 1 item with multiple responses the media used for cyberbullying. Online survey data were collected from 279 newly graduated nurses who worked in hospital. Internal consistency reliability and construct validity using confirmatory factor analysis were conducted using SPSS/WIN 26.0 and AMOS 26.0. Results: The one-factor structure was validated through confirmatory factor analysis (χ²=360.22, df=77, Normed Fit Index (NFI)=.91, Tucker Lewis index (TLI)=.92, Comparative Fit Index (CFI)=.93, and Root Mean-Squared Error of Approximation (RMSEA)=.12). The correlation coefficient between cyberbullying and workplace bullying was .50 (p<.01), confirming the criterion-related validity. The Korean version of the cyberbullying scale showed reliable internal consistency with a Cronbach's α for the total scale of .97. Conclusion: Findings from this study demonstrate that the Korean version of the cyberbullying scale has satisfactory construct validity and reliability to measure cyberbullying experience among newly graduated nurses. The purpose of this study is to identify and clarify the concept of high-risk pregnant nursing. This study used Schwartz-Barcott & Kim's hybrid model to identify the main attributes and indicators. In the fieldwork stage, data were collected in Seoul. The participants were 10 nurses working in the who performed direct nursing care for high risk pregnant women in the high risk ward for more than 5 years. The concept of high-risk pregnant nursing was found to have 5 attributes and 37 indicators in 3 dimensions. Purpose: This study was done to explore the meaning of the intensive care unit (ICU) nurse's alarm reaction and identify essential structure of the reaction experience. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 10 intensive care unit nurses working in higher general hospital. Data collection and analysis were conducted simultaneously by applying Giorgi's phenomenological method. Results: The ICU nurse's alarm reaction was shown to be in a dynamic structure to recognize and respond to alarms. Medical device alarms were recognized through alarm sounds and the importance of alarms was determined through previous experience of alarms and whether alarms were true or false. The problem solving ability to manipulate the alarm devices increased with reaction to alarms, and the nurses showed flexibility to individualize alarm settings according to patients' situations, or respond to alarms according to priority considering the degree of emergency of alarms. In addition, nurses resolved alarms while feeling a sense of mutual responsibility among colleagues in emergency situations. Conclusion: The essential structure of ICU nurses' alarm reaction revealed through this study was the recognition of and reaction to alarms, and the major characteristics explaining this structure were sensitivity, judgment, problem solving ability, flexibility, and mutual responsibility. Purpose: To analyze the changes in nurse staffing grades and to estimate the revenue growth generated by applying government guidelines for improving nurses' working conditions. Methods: Staffing grades, ranging from grade 1 (highest) to 7 (lowest), for 2018 and 2020 were analyzed for 326 general hospitals (GHs) and 1,419 non-general hospitals (NGHs). The annual revenue growth per nurse generated by changing inpatient nursing care fee schedules and newly introducing night shift nursing fees were estimated. Results: Grade 1 GHs increased from 6.9% in 2018 to 39.6% in 2020, whereas grades 6-7 decreased from 31.8% to 17.6%. NGHs with grades 6-7 decreased from 81.8% to 61.6%. GHs and NGHs with no reported staffing grades decreased from 10.6% to 0% and from 63.2% to 14.8%, respectively. The estimated annual revenue growth per nurse from inpatient nursing care fees resulting from 1-grade improvements in staffing was 1.44~7.26 million Korean won (KRW) and 1.25~9.75 million KRW for GHs and NGHs, respectively, while the results from night shift nursing fees were 2.37~5.54 million KRW and 2.20~5.14 million KRW for GHs and NGHs, respectively. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of organizational socialization, perceived organizational vision, and attitude toward organizational change on organizational commitment of nurses working in one hospital. Methods: This study was conducted with 441 participants in a hospital in A city, South Korea from Nov. 1 to 30 2017. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson Correlation and Multiple Regression with the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. Results: There were significant correlations among organizational socialization, perceived organizational vision, attitude toward organizational change and organizational commitment. The factors that significantly influenced organizational commitment were organizational socialization (β=.10 p=.015). perceived organizational vision (β=.20, p<.001), and attitude toward organizational change (β=.44, p<.001). These variables explained 50.0% of the variance in organizational commitment. Conclusion: The findings indicates that organizational socialization, perceived organizational vision and attitude toward organizational change affect organizational commitment. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the domestic studies on Integrated Nursing Care Services (INCS) to confirm research trends and present future directions. Methods: This study used the scoping review method, which comprises six stages: 1) identifying the research question, 2) identifying relevant studies, 3) study selection, 4) charting the data, 5) collating, summarizing, and reporting results, 6) consultation. Results: Studies related to INCS were multiplying and could be categorized into five themes: patient experience, risks to patient, nursing experience, risks to nurse, and environment of INCS unit. Research has primarily focused on investigating the phenomenon, with nurses as the predominant subjects. Although various variables were investigated for nurses, the results were controversial. Research on patients' experiences and risks is insufficient, and research variables are limited. Conclusion: Further research is needed on INCS regarding patients and environments. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and psychometrically test the nursing start-up attitude scale for student nurses. Methods: The initial items were based on the second analysis of systematic review of previous studies and in-depth interview data with 9 nurse entrepreneurs. In total, 25 items were derived based on the pilot survey. Psychometric testing was conducted with 324 student nurses. Data were analyzed using validity and reliability test methods. Results: Six factors, including 12 items explaining 74.4% of the total variance, were verified. The factors were opportunity of self actualization, network building, enhacing start-up competencies, outcomes of start-up, preparation for start-ups, and risk taking. Cronbach's α was .75. Conclusion: As validity and reliability have been verified through various methods, the developed scale in this study can contribute to assessing student nurses' attitudes to nursing start-ups. Purpose: This study was to investigate the structural relationship between nurses' motivation and effectiveness in their occupations using the Job Crafting model. This study was identified that the nurses' occupational motivation affected task, cognitive, and relational crafting. The factors affecting job effectiveness, organizational commitment and job embeddedness were also identified. Methods: The survey was conducted with 596 participating nurses working in common general hospitals and tertiary hospitals within South Korea. A structural equation model was constructed to verify the fitness of this model. Data was analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs. Results: The identified factors affecting occupational motivation was positive affectivity job crafting. Cognitive crafting had a significant impact on task and relational crafting, but task crafting had no significant influence on organizational commitment. Organizational commitment was found to have a significant impact on job embeddedness. As a result of comparing by size of the hospital, the Job Crafting model validated in this study showed higher fitness at tertiary hospitals than in common general hospitals. Conclusion: We found that nurses' job crafting behavior and occupational motivation cause them to have a significant influence on organizational commitment and job embeddedness, which are factors of job effectiveness. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing job satisfaction among ambulatory care nurses. Methods: Data were collected through a self-evaluation survey of 129 nurses in one tertiary hospital. Data were analyzed using paired t-test, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Importance-Performance Analysis, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean scores were: for importance, 3.18 out of 4, for performance, 2.24 out of 4, for professional self-concept, 2.92 out of 4, and for job satisfaction 2.77 out of 5. There were statistically significant positive correlations between professional self-concept and job satisfaction (r=.37, p<.001). Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that satisfaction with professional self-concept, clinical career, and age explained 47.0% of the job satisfaction of ambulatory care nurses (F=37.51, p<.001). Satisfaction with professional self-concept, clinical career, and age were statistically significant predictors of job satisfaction. Conclusion: Findings indicate motivation programs according to clinical career would be useful to improve job satisfaction of ambulatory care nurses. This methodological study was conducted to evaluate the interrater agreement in pressure ulcer risk assessment using the Braden scale, and in pressure ulcer classification, by nurses in a medium-sized hospital. Methods: Data were collected from a medium-sized hospital, located in Seoul, from December 18, 2017 to February 28, 2018. The author (Rater 1) and 20 randomly sampled nurses (Rater 2) independently assessed 100 patients. The Braden scale for risk assessment and the six-stage pressure ulcer classification system were used. The interrater agreement was evaluated using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), the proportion of agreement (Po), and the Bland-Altman plots. Results: For the total score on the Braden scale, the ICC was .85 and the Po was .29. Among the scale items, 'moisture' had the lowest agreement (ICC=.55, Po=.46). The interrater agreement had Po values of .84 and .69 for the presence and the classification of pressure ulcers, respectively. Conclusion: For nurses in medium-sized hospitals, interrater agreement for the Braden scale and for the classification of pressure ulcers should be enhanced. Purpose : This integrative review aimed to synthesize studies on intensive care unit (ICU) nurses' attitude, perceptions, and experiences toward end-of-life care decision-making. Methods : Using Whittermore and Knafl (2005)'s methods, we identified and synthesized research articles published in domestic journals between the years 2003 and 2019 and evaluated the quality of selected articles using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. Results : In the 13 studies reviewed, 12 were published prior to enactment of the "The Act for Hospice and Palliative Care and Decision-Making about Life-Sustaining Treatment (2018)." All nine quantitative studies identified were based on cross-sectional descriptive survey. In four qualitative studies, content analysis (n=2) and phenomenology (n=2) were used. Overall, ICU nurses were well-aware of the necessity of communicating and limiting life-sustaining treatments. Many ICU nurses had positive attitude towards limiting life-sustaining treatments to promote patients' comfort and dignity. Although nurses were willing to take active roles, they also reported having experienced high stress in the process of decision-making and implementation. Conclusions : It is important to prepare ICU nurses with proper knowledge and attitude regarding the topic area. Purpose: This study aims to examine the working time quality and work-life imbalance and verify the effect of working time quality on nurses' work-life imbalance. Methods: Data from the Korean Working Condition Survey were analyzed, and a total of 296 nurses were included. Working time quality was measured using the following: number of work hours per week, amount of weekend work, whether work was done during free time to meet work demands, and whether there were any changes in work hours. Five items were used to determine levels of work-life imbalance. Results: The number of weekend work days was positively related to work-life imbalance (p=.036). Nurses who spent their free time working to meet work demands (p<.001), as well as nurses whose work time changed through an increase in hours (p=.001), showed higher levels of work-life imbalance. In addition, nurses who had worked for less than 1 year had a poor work-life balance compared with those who worked 10 years or more. Conclusion: To improve nurses' work-life balance, it is essential to improve quality of work time by providing fair schedules, avoiding unpredictable changes in work schedule, and supporting new nurses. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the work environment related to the handling and administration of antineoplastic drugs in the members of the Korean Oncology Nursing Society. Methods: The study was carried out from October 2018 to November 2018. The self-reported surveys included questions on the work environment, experience and concerns from occupational exposure, safe activities of antineoplastic drugs and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, and type of PPE (e.g., gown, gloves, and mask). Results: A total of 125 participants from 41 organizations were surveyed. The nurses were mostly educated on safe management of antineoplastic drugs (95.2%) and concerned about health threats caused by occupational exposure (7.23± 2.14 out of 10). In addition, harmful activities were found, with gown use being the lowest when handling antineoplastic drugs. Conclusion: This study supports that appropriate staffing, equipment, and facilities, mandatory education, and establishment of policies are very important in creating a safe work environment for handling antineoplastic drugs. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the sleep quality of nurses in the comprehensive nursing care units of small-medium sized hospitals, and general and work-related characteristics associated with sleep quality of nurses. Methods: Participants were 312 nurses in comprehensive nursing care units of eight small and medium hospitals. The data were collected between June and August, 2018. A survey questionnaire including, sleep quality, general, and work-related characteristics of nurses was used. The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 23.0 program with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and χ² test. Logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors associated with sleep quality. Results: The average score for sleep quality was 8.58±3.18 (0~21). Using a cut-off point of 8.5, 51.9% were poor sleepers. Sleep quality was associated with age (Odds Ratio [OR]=0.93, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]=0.88~0.99). Conclusion: Age was identified as a factor associated with sleep quality among nurses in the comprehensive nursing care units at small and medium sized hospitals. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of resilience and job placement on general hospital nurse's intention to relocate, prepare a practical transfer management plan, and provide basic data on effective personnel management. Methods: Data were collected from 333 nurses in 2 general hospitals with more than 500 beds in P-city. Data analysis was performed using hierarchical regression with the SPSS/WIN 25.0 program. Results: The significant factors influencing turnover intention of hospital nurses were sacrifice, fit, link, interpersonal relationship, followed by experience of turnover. Explanatory power was 42% in the regression model. Conclusion: Resilience and job embeddedness have a positive effect on turnover intention in general hospital nurses. Therefore, efforts to improve resilience, job embeddedness, and organizational support are required to decrease turnover intention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
