Name or naming is significant in the construction of identity. While studies on online identity constructions have concentrated on examining textual or graphical discourse to reflect identities, identity construction based on profile names has received very little attention. This study examines identity construction in naming among Yoruba Facebook (FB) users. Fifty purposively selected FB profile names were analysed using Castells’(2010) identity construction framework. Four identified identities in the Profile names of Yoruba Facebook Users, namely religiously pious, innovators, football lovers and entertainers were indexed by six linguistic features – hybridisation of orthography (HOO), back formation, blending, compounding, clipping and hypocorism. The linguistic features showed the connection between the linguistic peculiarities of FB profile names and the identity constructed in the social media platform.

Avatars of the Storyteller in Le Petit Chaperon Uf by Jean-Claude Grumberg. Since the 17th century, when the story became part of the written literature thanks to Charles Perrault, the fairy-tale Le Petit Chaperon rouge represents an inexhaustible source of inspiration for all art creators. Over time, the renewal stakes of this canonical history changed and, during the 21st century, the heroine of the marvelous universe enters the theatre stage and inscribes the recreative approach of the tale in a contemporary art that puts together aesthetics and ethics. One of the authors who successfully managed to reconcile ancient and contemporary culture by transforming the canonical scheme of this tale is Jean-Claude Grumberg. Being a contemporary writer who finds the creative substance of his work in his childhood memories and in the painful experience of the deportation of the Jews, Grumberg wrote in 2005 the play Le Petit Chaperon Uf in order to tell the Shoah differently and to propose alternatives to a possible recurrence of evil. In his process of cultural and generic adaptation of the tale, the storyteller has an essential role. Our study aims to answer to two questions: ''why the storyteller is metamorphosing?'' and ''who is his avatar?'' in the play Le Petit Chaperon Uf. Playing an essential role in the process of transmitting the tale over time, nowadays, he becomes part of the performance and his voice merges with the voice of other participants in the action. The wolf-storyteller and the heroine-storyteller try, each in turn, to tell the tale in order to impose their own version of the great [His]Story of humanity: the terrifying and monstrous, for the Nazi-wolf, and that of peace, for the little girl forced to wear the yellow hood. Cuvinte-cheie: basm, adaptare teatrală, hibridizare, rescriere, literatură contemporană Article history: Received 02 February 2024; Revised 26 May 2024; Accepted 05 June 2024; Available online 25 June 2024; Available print 30 June 2024.

In Morocco, as almost everywhere in the world, the preventive measures induced by the health crisis have forced not only urgent and massive but also radical and permanent changes in school practices. Therefore, digital technology has been introduced as the most appropriate outcome to ensure pedagogical continuity. Apprenticeships and classes, which until then were entirely provided in person, were suddenly turned into an educational model that alternates face-to-face and virtual self-learning courses, at a distance, hence the concept of “hybrid” teaching. Given its abrupt and hasty nature, much has been said about this “hybrid approach”. Some may see it as a fantastic opportunity to promote ICTs, but most consider it very random and even chaotic. With that being said, the following contribution aims to study the hybridization of FLE teaching/learning as it has been implemented by some high schools in Kenitra during the pandemic (school year 2020/2021) to analyze its effects and main factors, before giving suggestions to improve and take full advantage of this learning system.

The objective of this paper is to review the electrification modes associated with the Great Algerian South Networks (GSN). The study focuses on the conceptualization of the GSN through the dimensioning of mini-grids. Given the remoteness and difficulties of fuel supply, a series of reforms have been undertaken to promote the energy transition and ensure the development of these regions through the realization of hybrid systems in order to reduce the dependence on fossil fuel sources by ensuring energy savings.

As marine ecosystems respond to climate change and other stressors, it is necessary to evaluate current and past hybridization events to gain insight on the outcomes and drivers of such events. Ancestral introgression within the gadids has been suggested to allow cod to inhabit a variety of habitats. Little attention has been given to contemporary hybridization, especially within cold-water-adapted cod (Boreogadus saida Lepechin, 1774 and Arctogadus glacialis Peters, 1872). We used whole-genome, restriction-site associated, and mitochondrial sequence data to explore the degree and direction of hybridization between these species where previous hybridization had not been reported. Although nearly identical morphologically at certain life stages, we detected very distinct nuclear and mitochondrial lineages. We detected one potential hybrid with a Arctogadus mitochondrial haplotype and Boreogadus nuclear genotype, but no early generational hybrids. The presence of a late generation hybrid suggests that at least some hybrids survive to maturity and reproduce. However, a historical introgression event could not be excluded. Contemporary gene flow appears asymmetrical from Arctogadus into Boreogadus, which may be due to overlap in timing of spawning, environmental heterogeneity, or differences in population size. This study provides important baseline information for the degree of potential hybridization between these species within Alaska marine environments.

The objective of this paper is to investigate the hybridization dynamics of the Third sector at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The progressive contamination between the State, market, family and Third sector spheres has long been subject of interest of the scholars. This paper aim at analysing these dynamics through the case study of Fondazione Banco Alimentare (Italian Food Bank Foundation). The case helps in investigating the impact of the pandemic on the role, logics and actors that make up the Third sector (both organizations and people) and its relation with the other subsystems. The empirical analysis shows that the pandemic and its consequences has enhanced the role of Fondazione Banco Alimentare, thanks to its relevance during the food emergency that also increased its visibility in the media. There are more institutional and non-institutional donors, more beneficiaries and help requests that resulted also in an accelerated professionalization and training of volunteers and employers. In conclusion, the Italian Food Bank and its network dealt with processes of digitalization, institutionalization and professionalization. These transformations resulted in a new positioning of the organization in the public sphere and redefined its relationship between local, national and European institutions.

The Algerian electric system consists of the northern interconnected grid, the “Pôle In Salah – Adrar – Timimoun” regional grid and many mini-grids supplying dispersed localities in the Great Algerian South. Although these mini-grids share, as of end-2018, only 4% of the whole country power generation capacity, the huge renewable energies, mainly solar PV, potential availability stimulates, in the framework of the efforts deployed towards a low-carbon energy transition, to integrate PV to existing fossil fuels-based power plants. In this context, this paper presents the first attempt achieved by SKTM, a subsidiary of Sonelgaz, by the integration of PV power plants to the power generation systems supplying Tamanrasset, Tindouf and Djanet localities. Positive outcomes in terms of fuel saving and CO2 emissions reduction which would be retrieved from this first experience are highlighted.

In the article, acclimatization of South Korean varieties of soybeans to the soil-climate conditions of the Republic of Uzbekistan and cross-breeding between them has a positive effect. According to our experiments, the combinations F1CH11(-018) x CH30(-969) and F1CH27(-266) x CH30(-969) were observed in F1 hybrids from the main elements of productivity in terms of inheritance of the number of pods per plant. In addition, F1CH11(-018) x CH30(-969) and F1CH27(-266) x CH30(-969) combinations for seed weight per plant showed positive heterosis in all but 3 combinations for lower pod location characters, positive complete and incomplete dominance was observed. Character superiority in the number of seeds per plant in CH30(-969), CH7(-014), CH28(-268) and CH28(-268), F1CH11(-018) x CH30(-969), F1KO20 x CH30 In (-969) combinations, a high index of 1000 seed weight was found in CH7(-014) and K09(339) variety samples. In combinations F1K09(339) x CH30(-969), F1US-25(-622) x CH30(-969), F1CH11(-018) x CH30(-969), F1US-25(-622) x CH30(-969 ), the phenomenon of heterosis was observed in F1CH11(-018) x CH30(-969), F1US-44 (-641) x CH30(-969) and F1KO20 x CH30(-969) combinations. It has been highlighted that the continuation of research on the above-studied variety samples and hybrid combinations will be highly effective in increasing productivity.

- Abstract
What are the effects of the intensification of energy interdependence between Russia, the world’s second largest exporter of hydrocarbons, and China, the world’s largest importer? Bilateral interdependence is the lever for the hybridization of the institutions governing international energy relations. Based on the issues of power and energy security, the intensification of interdependence leads to institutional changes, known as hybridization, which are linked to a specific security-efficiency trade-off. Four factors shape this hybridization: the structural context faced by the actors, the strategic behaviour of the state-firms complex, sectoral properties and existing institutional arrangements. It happens that the French language cannot express all the realities lived by its various speakers. This is the reason why, some reinvent and create each day adequate French language for different Francophone situations or contexts. Léopold Sédar Senghor is being one of the precursors to have introduced new terms into the French language making of this an Africanized-French. According to him, this kind of French is the language of the Civilization of the Universal. Our study tries to apprehend what are the reasons for choosing Africanized-French, and to show that this undoubtedly makes part of the Francophone concept.

This article contributes to the understanding of the hybrid dimension of the French language, trying to show the intrusions, in written French, of language inputs from sub-Saharan African societies, particularly the socio- linguistic heritage of French-speaking Black African novelists. Hybridization can lend itself to several interpretations but we will study it by focusing on its living dimension which is nourishing dynamic because it contributes to giving the mother tongue a new breath, a new vitality which, while being subversive by a decanonization of the classical French language, makes it more realistic and brings it closer to the African public. We concentrate on the presence of clearly quoted proverbs, verbal interactions but also on words and expressions appearing to be strange for French. It is therefore a literary approach that focuses on the metamorphoses and the dynamism of the linguistic mixing.

This article aims to investigate the development of ethnic identity. The main focus of the study is the young generation of Russian minority living in Lithuania’s biggest cities – Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda. The hypothesis of this study is based on previous research and tends to examine whether the younger generation of Russians have difficulties identifying themselves as members of a specific ethnic group and/or have hybrid ethnic identity. In order to collect the necessary data, qualitative and quantitative methods were used. The main age group of this study was youngsters aged from were 15 to 29 y.o. There were also a control group of older Russians aged from 45 to 60 y.o. The latter group was selected in order to compare the data. The study has shown that around 20 percent of all young participants have double or hybrid ethnic identity. The majority of them identified with two ethnic groups and described themselves as Russian-Lithuanians. Almost half of the young participants had certain doubts in categorizing themselves as members of a particular ethnic group. Even more, around a tenth of all the participants avoided assigning themselves to any ethnic group and defined themselves as “humans”, “Europeans” or “world citizens”. Certain differences between the three cities have been observed as well. Both older and younger Russians from Klaipėda and Vilnius have stronger bonds with their ethnic group and language comparing to Russians from Kaunas. Therefore, the processes of assimilation in this city are more prominent that hybridization. This study has revealed not only the latest tendencies of identity development within Russian minority group, but also numerous different factors that might influence these trends. Complex processes of self-identification as well as the formation of hybrid ethnic identity in young individuals might be caused by globalization, active migration of people, rapid spread of information, multilingualism.

This study deals with the problem of migration, identity and acculturation. The immigrant - the Arab in particular, since the study is limited to the novel "The Drifters" and the book "Killer Identities" by Amin Maalouf, the Lebanese writer residing in France - carries a cultural heritage different from the cultural reality of the host or receiving country. Introverting and closing in on the original identity leads the immigrant to the abyss of marginalization and isolation, and even to loss. A closed identity finds no place in an environment built on diversity and openness. We must believe in and adopt a complex and open identity that respects the other and integrates into his constructive culture without renouncing the mother country and its culture. Whoever integrates into another culture disguising his culture becomes a human being who is rooted and without history. The solution to the problem lies in the process of acculturation through the immigrant's respect for the culture of the host country and adding something to it, and through society's respect for the immigrant's culture and integrating it into it. Here, language plays a key role in building bridges of understanding between the immigrant and the immigrant community.

Far from the traditional representations between conventional and organic/local/direct-selling farming, there is a diversity of non-exclusive strategies, responding to individual logics related not only to the farm trajectory, but also to the beliefs of the farmer. We propose a new reading grid crossing different dimensions and leading to the classification of farms according to four profiles. Convergences and tensions are developing between the different “forms” of agriculture, reflecting complex processes of hybridization and disjunction. Our results, by providing a better understanding of the changes in French agriculture and highlighting the permeability between agricultural models, could be used to shape public policies towards sustainable agriculture and food.

The two verbs in the title which are at the base of our reflection have enabled us to analyze the impact of the existential experience, which is death, in poetic writing. In the first part, we go beyond this intimate orientation to show that religious and cultural beliefs helped the poet to arouse his desire so as to resuscitate the loved ones. This has given us the opportunity to make use of the intertextual practices that underpin our argument. In the second part, we examine the stylistic dualism in the poet's waltz between purism and rebellion. He obtains a linguistic hybridization symbolizing the subversive impetus on which the work is built. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While hybridization is a political injunction in the transformation of tutoring practices and the implementation of the support of the actors involved in higher education is difficult to implement, we wish to use Villemonteix’s notion of supervision to analyze an Amue (Agency for the Mutualization of Universities and Institutions) device. Through this case study, we present an approach to professionalizing casual tutors in higher education. This approach is based on a "soft" supervision of the actors involved (co-opted and not-often-available tutors, a pre-configured technological environment, a training system supported by a strategy and personalized pedagogical support) through six types of relationships. Our investigations offer a response through the “letting go” of actors wishing to set up rapid transformations of training practices while the temporality of the changes is longer.

The first Conte Government took office on the 1st of June, 2018, almost ninety days after the national elections held on the 4th of March: it is the longest period in the history of the Italian Republic between the date of the elections and the birth of a government. What happened to the political communication during this long period? By using content and statistical text analysis, three channels of political communication were analysed: online newspapers, social media and official speeches at the end of the consultations. The intent of the article is to examine some typical dynamics of the new ecosystem of political communication that are strictly linked, in other words: the increasing of disintermediation; the hybridization of institutional, media and social communication spheres; the supposed end of the mediation role of information professionals. This aim was raised also by placing a specific focus on the differences in communication style of the main leaders involved in the formation of the first Conte Government: Luigi Di Maio for the Five Stars Movement and Matteo Salvini for the Lega. By focusing on the entire period of the consultations and on the analysis of the contents conveyed through the various channels, it was possible to understand in depth the peculiarities of the communication strategies adopted, how they relate to each other and to targets and events. The analysis of the data highlighted the low heterogeneity of the peculiar lexicons of the various communication channels and the link between the differences in communication styles, as well as the means by which information and the temporal dimension are conveyed; in addition, it fosters to identify the differences between the main leaders Di Maio and Salvini on these aspects.

While the rugby player figure, reformatted by the impact of professionalization and mediatization, experienced an increasing popularity during the 2000s, the outstanding media coverage of Sébastien Chabal seems interesting on two counts. It represents both the climax of this phenomenon and the come back to a more traditional image of the rugby player, which historically embodies hegemonic masculinity. But after exploiting the bestial masculinity of S. Chabal, advertisers depicted him in more ambiguous situations, and even dressed him up like a woman. Relying on the semiological analysis of a corpus of advertisements featuring S. Chabal, this article illustrates how the communication strategies used by advertisers contributed to the dissemination of new representations of masculinity breaking with prevailing cultural codes. It also sheds light on the dialectic relationship between hybridized masculinities and the hegemonic model.

International audience; The VAGO tool is an expert system for lexical vagueness detection that also measures the degree of subjectivity of the speech, as well as its level of detail. In this paper, we build a neural clone of VAGO, based on a BERT-like architecture, trained on symbolic VAGO scores on a French press corpus (FreSaDa). The qualitative and quantitative analysis shows the fidelity of the neural version. By exploiting explainability tools (LIME), we then show the interest of this neural version for the enrichment of the lexicons of the symbolic version, and for the production of versions in other languages.; L'outil VAGO est un système expert de détection du vague lexical qui mesure aussi le degré de subjectivité du discours, ainsi que son niveau de détail. In 2013, Soleil productions, specialized in fantasy comics, published Les Fables de l’Humpur by Pierre Bordage (scripter) and Olivier Roman (cartoonist), adapted from Bordage’s novel (1999). A former novel has been yet converted in strips by another artists (Les Guerriers du silence) ; but here, Bordage practises a new job, graphic novelist ; for this medium crosses text and drawing, involving a collective work with the drawer and the colourists. As the script writer, Bordage has many new constraints : he produces now text for picture, and also for a stiff framework : page and double page layout ; pre- formatted comic books with their own unity ; etc. So the accurate pattern of the novel, divided into « Livres » and « Chapitres », has been reshuffled ; so the initial « fabliaux » must be placed elsewhere, otherwise. Those new narrative frontiers find an echo with the corporal and geographical frontiers, in this great quest tale ‒ in return, there’s bargain, recreation, lucky find. These « impures » Fables de l’Humpur where really a genetic and generic hybridization novel : it’s especially befitting not a mere auto-adaptation, but an actual intermedial and co-operative creation.

Abstract: The main cause of cancer-related death is due to cancer cell spreading and formation of secondary tumors in distant organs, the so-called metastases. Metastatic cancer cells are detectable in the blood of cancer patients as circulating tumor cells (CTC) and may be exploited for prognostic and monitoring purposes, including in breast cancer. Due to their very low frequency, however, their quantitative detection remains a challenge in clinical practice. Nature has developed mechanisms to amplify rare biological events or weak signals, such as intracellular signaling pathways, cytokine networks or the coagulation cascades. At the National Center for Competence in Research (NCCR) in Bio-Inspired Materials we are coupling gold nanoparticle-based strategies with fibrinogen and DNA bio-inspired amplification cascades to develop an in vitro test to specifically and sensitively detect CTCs in patients' blood. In this article, we describe the biological context, the concept of bio-inspired amplification, and the approaches chosen. We also discuss limitations, open questions and further potential biomedical applications of such an approach.

This article presents a part of the results of a Franco-Quebec research on the effects of the New Public Management (NPM) for social work in the two countries. It shows how the actors involved evoke a dynamic of control of professional practices through the implementation of new managerial standards within institutions in evolution. The effects are differentiated according to the type of organization. Collective work is more coherent but is also more constrained and controlled. Standardization is experienced both as a necessity and as a hindrance to work. The actors are ambivalent about the hybridizations they are led to develop. The NPM thus contributes to the pluralization of logics in social work institutions.

With fur, feathers, corals, antlers or butterflies a constant feature of his creations, Alexander McQueen created designs that gave the animal world pride of place whilst his fashion and the imagery of his catwalk presentations were deeply influenced by Victorian sartorial and visual culture. In this essay the Victorian inspiration of his retro-futuristic designs will be studied to illustrate the uncanny persistence of some of the animalistic fantasies of the Victorian era into the contemporary world. McQueen not only played with Victorian sartorial and animal references but also mixed and matched humans, animals and indeed machines and cross-fertilized them into single creatures thus borrowing from the Victorians not only their bestiaries but also, Frankenstein-like, sewed together parts of different animals to create monstrous hybrids, indeed discomforting animals.

In this paper, we propose a method of designing and analyzing information systems for digital humanities. To illustrate this method, we present web applications dedicated to the collective enrichment of knowledge by the experimentation of the reflexivity and the comparative analysis of the interpretations harvested. The information system that we developed as part of an action research aims to enhance the photographic reports of the presidencies of the French Republic in free access on the site of the french National Archives. We show how the digitization of documents and their availability can be analyzed in terms of document metamorphosis and hybridization of data. Then, we explain how these transformations of information can be automatized to obtain an intensive information culture and a standard consumption of documents. Finally, we present a system of collective enrichment of knowledge to show how to stimulate the interpretation and make interoperable the expression of a point of view while quantifying its complexity. - Abstract
Alterity is questioned within three Russian films which are about genetic mutation and the coming of a new era for Humanity: Tarkovsky's Stalker, Lopuchanski's The Ugly Swans and Iufit's Bipedalism. Stalker defends the idea that a spiritual renewal is necessary to save the world through a mutant girl possessing paranormal capacities. The Ugly Swans adds that mutation should not be considered as pathological, and thus must be accepted with trust in its spiritual power. Nevertheless, Bipedalism recalls that attempts to create a new human being, made in the 1920's-1930's in the USSR, have proved to lead to dead ends and human disasters. The comparison between those three films leads to a temporal point of view about alterity which challenges the more conventional spatial conception of it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The passage of the character to the notion of hybridity is part of a change of paradigm that contemporary art embodies. Hybrid integrates both new disciplines and all traditional disciplines as well as new practices, which are appearing. It manifests itself through a multiplication of forms and through an experimental art, inducing it as a key concept in contemporary art. If the current period includes hybridization as a central issue, it will be interesting to characterize the multiple factors that contribute to this situation, and to determine how new meanings of the term actually involve a reconfiguration of the terminological field, and thus establish new approaches to this problematics. If the art of today is favouring new principles such as reconversion and conversion, it undeniably promotes hybrid, including combinations with other plans, and in a general context in which various mutations operate simultaneously, involving the emergence of a new identity of art.

This hybridization allows the image to explore the border territories of different registers. The text explores the relationship that may exist between animation and documentary, two worlds that seem to be opposed, but which recently intersect in films. To what extent does the relationship that documentary maintains with the world remain in animated films ? This paper attempts to answer this question by studying documentary animation works such as Ari Folman’s Waltz with Bashir and Brett Morgen’s Chicago 10, or by analyzing the use of animation techniques and special effects to manipulate and transform documentary images, as in Avi Mograbi’s Z32.

To contribute to a transition to more sustainable and inclusive food systems, research explores transition processes in territories considering both their actors and spaces. This paper contributes to this by examining the geographical organisation of systems that seek to maintain the strengths of the local while overcoming some of its limits. The connections to places of five companies are analysed. These companies have sustainable sourcing strategies that cannot be fully satisfied locally due to the diversity and volumes of products required. It shows that arrangements are developed to both create hybrid physical and symbolic connections between places and coordinate different scales from local to global. Their detailed analysis provides innovative perspectives into the design of sustainable food systems.

The article explores some of the milestones in the history of the architectural manifesto: from Antonio Sant’Elia’s Futurist manifesto (1914) to the anthologies of the first decade of the twenty-first century, through Rem Koolhaas’ retroactive manifesto (1978). Two graphs from the Manart database are the starting point for questioning the manifestos’ definitional difficulties, especially regarding its recent developments in terms of form and function. The links between the history of manifestos and the evolution of its notion are then outlined, a dynamic situated at the crossroads between textual production and critical reception. Following the renewed interest for the manifesto in architecture—the forms of which are yet to be explored—this paper puts into perspective the idea, introduced by the 1980s, that the manifesto has become an obsolete format.

“Where are we now?” was the question David Bowie asked in a music video directed by American plastician Tony Oursler, and released in 2013. Over the years, Bowie created many avatars, notably thanks to music videos, and in 2016, he would even metaphorically depict his own death in Lazarus. In Where are we now?, he highlighted the questions of disappearance and posterity in particular. On a formal level, the video refers to two genres which can seem very opposite: on the one hand, lyric videos, that are official textual music videos, featuring the lyrics of the illustrated song; on the other hand, video installation and contemporary art. This paper proposes to analyse this music video in the light of equivocality, ambiguities and duplications within a dense network of signs. It will also consider the hybridization, of genres and of Bowie’s body and self-representation as well. The writing of lyrics on screen, which is specific to lyric video as a genre, seems an invitation to interpretation. Specifically, the importance given to the text leads to notice the gradual fading of Bowie himself, as a singer, behind his own song. In the end of the video, he will indeed totally disappear from the screen – a disappearance that echoes afterwards with Bowie’s actual death, a few years later.

The second novel written directly in French by Atiq Rahimi, A Curse On Dostoevsky, calls on the masterpiece Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky. This novel shows various aspects of the hybridization of the author. The Russian novel is manifest in the French novel in two ways: implicitly by the moral reflections on the divine justice and the human justice, and explicitly by many elements of the text (title, epigraph, paratexts, quotations, paraphrases etc.). Being a lot more than a simple pastiche, the French novel is indeed the rewriting of the famous crime committed by Raskolnikov. It is its intertextuality which makes the novel of Rahimi a kind of dialogue with the novel of Dostoevsky on the mode of the rewriting of the reflections and the reformulation of the questions developed in the work of the latter. What are the similarities and the fundamental differences between the character of Rassoul, main character of Rahimi, and that of Raskolnikov, protagonist of Dostoevsky? How has Rassoul become a failed pasticheur? What punishment are they to be subjected to in a country engulfed in an endless fratricidal war? These are the questions to which the present study will seek to find the answers.

In a society characterized by ever-changing identity- and boundary-redefinition, the confines among different kinds of art are shifting consistently. Painting, photography, and cinema often surface in post-modern literature directly or indirectly. In particular, intertextual connections, generated by the intertwining of cinema and literature in literary works, lead to the creation of new text types which can hardly be classified according to traditional genre taxonomies. This essay aims to investigate some hybridization processes, triggered by the presence of cinema in literary texts, through the analysis of two novels which claim a direct connection with cinema: Paradis Conjugal d'Alice Ferney (2008) et Le Garçon incassable de Florence Seyvos (2013).

Antoine Volodine and Christian Garcin both make a distinctive use of shamanism in fictional novels. By multiplying shaman characters and intertwining the shamanistic principles and the narrative, they develop a poetic of instability noticeable through various hybridization processes notably strengthened by the intrusion of supernatural elements. The analysis of three motives in which this game of unstable balance is particularly mirrored – identity, History and fiction – shall turn our attention to the role of shamanism as a vector of fictional dynamism.

Across Oceania, at the same time that coral reef ecosystems are confronting profound global environmental changes, emergent conservation policies are creatively implementing marine protected or managed area governance that demonstrates multiple forms of mixing and interaction between distinct normative regimes (formal/informal, local/State). In this article, we focus on the re-emergence of rāhui, a traditional mode of marine and terrestrial resources management, as a contemporary system for the protection of reef environments in French Polynesia with strong cultural roots. Abolished following Māʻohi (Indigenous Tahitian) conversion to Christianity of at the end of the 18th century, rāhui reappears today in Tahiti as a powerful tool for the conservation of marine resources in the face of environmental changes which threaten the wellbeing of island communities. In Teahupo’o, on Tahiti’s southern coast, contemporary rāhui presents itself as a new conservation policy mobilizing both local and scientific knowledge and institutional legal frameworks with pretension to universal applicability, thus exemplifying the emergence of what we identify as a “hybrid” resource governance. We propose to highlight the hybridization processes at work in this governance form, which, against a background of cooperation, finds itself plunged into the heart of tensions and conflicts specific to the cultural practice of rāhui.
