Hysterical neurosis affects social perception and, thus, the quality of life. This problem has received only fragmentary scientific attention so far, in spite of the rapid increase in the number of citizens with clinical disabilities, the risk of which is quite high in patients with hysterical neurosis. This article introduces the clinical and socio psychological mechanisms that trigger the rigid patterns of neurotic hysterical personality development, as well as various therapeutic ways to overcome them. The study involved K. K. Yakhin and D. M. Mendelevich’s Questionnaire of Neurotic States, the Quality of Life Questionnaire issued by the World Health Organization, I. Ya. Gurovich and A. B. Shmukler’s Questionnaire for Assessing Social Functioning and Quality of Life of People with Mental Health Issues, N. G. Garanyan’s Emotion Recognition Test, N. S. Kurek’s Pose and Gesture Test, J. P. Guilford and M. O. Sullivan’s Social Intelligence Test adapted by E. S. Mikhailova. The empirical research revealed that the patients had an average level of quality of life because they needed constant psychiatric support and experienced problems at work and in private life. The patients also demonstrated a moderate decrease in social perception. The clinical symptoms prevented them from concentrating on perceptual elements, making them unable to understand the context and anticipate consequences. Their catathymic perception caused uncontrolled projections. However, patients with minimal deficit of social perception and intelligence, being active community members, were able to compare and critically assess their life situation. As a result, they expressed dissatisfaction with their well-being. Their deficient social perception chronicled neurosis; eventually, the patients accepted their clinical status, lowered their claims, and developed an uncritical positive assessment of life. The study revealed a strong feedback between the quality of life and social perception, which may help in psychotherapy and rehabilitation of patients with hysterical neurosis.

The African tulip tree, Spathodea campanulata, is an invasive species introduced on the island of Tahiti in 1932 and officially declared a "threat to biodiversity in French Polynesia" in 1998. As part of the CADISPAT project (Dispersal ability of Spathodea, 2019-2020) devoted to the study of the dispersion of the African tulip tree in the Society Archipelago in French Polynesia, a survey by questionnaire was conducted among 291 people on the islands of Tahiti and Moorea in September 2019. The aim of this survey was to collect information on the level of knowledge and the societal representations of the local population on this invasive species. The results of the survey revealed an overall low level of knowledge of the tulip tree, even if it varies somewhat according to a certain number of socio‑demographic criteria and a social perception which seems rather positive. If the African tulip tree is described, in a pragmatic way, as invasive and assimilated to a certain number of nuisances, it also appears to be very appreciated for the aesthetic character of its red flowering and is associated with various functions. This recalls the importance of trees in Ma'ohi culture, but also seems to suggest a certain cultural appropriation of African tulip tree introduced into French Polynesia almost 100 years ago today. This could limit the population's support for the management of this invasive species.

- Abstract

In this paper we describe a bottom-up exploration of the social evaluations that emerge from the gossip people hear about others in a workplace context. We used the Dual Perspective Model (DPM: Abele & Wojciszke, 2007, 2014, 2018) to code open-format gossip stories provided by 522 participants for evaluations of gossip targets’ warmth and morality (i.e., communion) and competence and assertiveness (i.e., agency). We additionally coded evaluations of work-effort, self-control, and stress, as well as the gossip topic. Our analysis revealed that communion facet evaluations were more frequent than agency facet evaluations. Additionally, gossip was predominantly negative, reflecting the fact that evaluations usually conveyed information about low warmth, morality and competence; assertiveness was an exception, with high evaluations more common than low. These negative evaluations were most frequently contained in gossip about the negative character of the target and work-related norm transgressions. Our analysis further revealed distinct patterns of co-occurrence for the DPM facets, providing further evidence of the utility of distinguishing not only between the major dimensions of social evaluation, but also their facets. This research provides new insights regarding the variety, prevalence, and valence of social evaluations that emerge from workplace gossip. Most important in the present context, it shows the usefulness of the DPM facets in understanding the content of gossip.

According to the primacy of morality hypothesis, moral traits are the most substantial contributor to – and when positive, always contribute positively to – global impressions of others. In three experiments (N = 413), we asked participants to form global impressions of the financial advisor (Study 1a), car mechanic (Study 1b), and physician (Study 1c). Contrary to the primacy of morality hypothesis, we showed that when people evaluate experts, they are guided primarily by experts’ competence (solving or not solving clients’ problems), not morality (moral or immoral intentions). The global impressions of the experts who made a mistake and did not solve clients’ problems were negative regardless of the experts’ moral or immoral intentions. However, the competent experts were continually assessed positively regardless of their good or bad intentions. The meta-analysis showed that the effect of manipulated intention on global impression was not significant. The results pose a challenge to the idea that moral behaviors are the most relevant when making global impressions of others.

- Abstract
Teenage parenthood involves a dual transition to adulthood and parenthood. A small-scale phenomenon, there remains a gap between statistical reality and social perception. The media and politicians take up the issue as a synonym for socio-psychological difficulties. The literature points in particular to the consequences of these maternities on the future of mothers, children and their relationships. However, some studies qualify the literature by identifying different types of teenage pregnancy and parenthood profiles., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.)

The Stereotype Content Model (SCM) plays a prominent role in social perception research when comparing the evaluation of different targets on warmth and competence dimensions. However, there is scarce information on the SCM’s measurement properties. Thus, in this article, we provide a comprehensive test of the SCM’s structural validity (i.e., reliability, dimensionality, cross-group comparability of measurement properties). We re-analysed published SCM data from English speaking participants (study 1: 78 datasets from 43 original publications, 'N' = 20,819) and German participants (study 2: 29 datasets from 23 original publications, 'N' = 10,854). We used confirmatory factor analyses to assess the scales’ reliability and dimensionality as well as measurement invariance assessment to examine cross-group comparability as a precondition for meaningful and valid mean-value comparison. We found on average good reliabilities of the SCM scales. In contrast, about 35% of all 1093 examined SCM measurement models presented adequate scale dimensionality, and regarding the scales’ cross-group comparability, we found (partial) scalar measurement invariance in about 11% of all cases. These findings indicate considerable validity concerns in published SCM research, as a meaningful and valid measurement of warmth and competence was not given in approximately two thirds of all cases, and mean-value comparisons were potentially biased due to lacking cross-group comparability for about eight out of nine cases. We propose future directions to improve the measurement quality and validity in SCM research and invite fellow researchers to constructively discuss these ideas.

This paper explores the different meanings that heritage has for conservation, tourism and local identity. Based on an in-depth examination of a conceptual framework, heritage was seen to have three different meanings: (i) the one recognized at the institutional level by administrations concerned with the protection of assets and spaces; (ii) the one that is based on the configuration of the image of the land within the tourism sector; and (iii) the one that corresponds to the sense of identity of the local people in that community. The aim of this research is to identify the relationships between these significances in order to contribute toward improved heritage management. To this end, an empirical methodology was configured based on standard techniques in social sciences, including an analysis of the content of public policies, a semiotic analysis of the tourism image and consultation using questionnaires. This methodology makes it possible to isolate the different variables and determine how the synergies between them are made manifest within a specific rural context, and then predict how these impacts can be replicated elsewhere. Based on our results, the conclusion is that more heterogeneous values of heritage need to be incorporated into both the tourism image and the social perception, using the latest academic approaches. It also shows that the traditional segmentation of administrative frameworks prevents a similar development within the existing institutional contexts.

ADAPTABILITY (Personality) , *SOCIAL perception , *SELF-perception , *DEVELOPMENTAL psychology , *TASK performance , *SOCIAL psychology - Abstract
The self is a crucial component of the psychic life and plays a central role for the adaptation to the environment. In daily life, this adaptative function is ensured, inter alia, by numerous biases filtering information and favoring those which are self-related. After succinctly reviewing the most documented among them which are affective and mnesic biases, the current paper provides a critical review of literature about a bias which is supposed to be perceptive, the self-prioritization effect (SPE). That has been revealed by Sui et al. (2012, Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 38(5), 1105) with an astute matching task and consists in the fact that arbitrarily tagging shapes to a word referring to the participant (e.g., you--square) leads to faster and more accurate responses as compared to shapes tagged to a word referring to another identity (e.g., strange--circle). The methodological variations of this task and the SPE's both extension and putative origins will be presented, as well as the restrictions which border it, related to the individuals, to the experimental situation and to some more general properties of the self. Finally, some avenues for future research will be proposed, drawing some promising paths: beyond being a robust and intriguing phenomenon, SPE can indeed be considered as a convenient tool to assess some mechanisms underlying social cognition, in various fields using an experimental approach such as developmental psychology and social psychology. Contrary to what many people believe, satanism is a reality that most people are unaware of and there have not been made many studies on it either. Usually people associate it to crime, but we cannot ignore that it is true just in some cases and only in certain specific circumstances. The autohor conducted a research by using questionnaires and interviews with the aim to deepen and increase the theorical and empiracl knowledge on this topic and to find the possible connection between satanism and crime. The results showed a big difference between what is perceived by society and the reality of the situation. The purpose of the article is to put forward a new point of view on satanism which may help us to gain a better awareness of the situation.

In the face of the multitude of academic curricula offered to young bachelors who knock on the doors of Cameroonian universities, the reality is however the reality of a crisis of orientation. At this stage, many people do not know which route to take, and even more so are those who are experimenting or whose choices are based on their peers and predecessors. Based on a literature search and data collection, the present scientific contribution offers a constructivist and strategic reading of the mechanisms leading to the choice of an academic discipline in Cameroonian university. As a result, in the choice of an academic course, the social logic resulting from the socio-cultural representations that take place in the social environment of young graduates is being implemented, or the strategic choices of the latter. This is how they integrate diverse social perceptions as well as their interest in school, in this case success, prestige, employability facilities, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Through a national and international press review (about 60 pages monthly, and 2 000 sources), the Foundation Médéric Alzheimer (FMA) found that Alzheimer's disease continues to supply an abundant media and cultural production. Therefore FMA wished to understand how the social perceptions on Alzheimer's disease, subjects with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers, have evolved since 2010. We reviewed printed press, documentaries, and awareness campaigns. Cultural productions included fiction materials such as novels, theatre plays, films, television series etc. We estimated at about one hundred and fifty the number of articles that were analyzed. Observed trends show that Alzheimer's disease has been trivialized, becoming a "background noise" both in media (coverage of research advances, local stories) and fiction works (in particular by singers and comedians, development of child literature etc.). Meanwhile, the disease is represented in a more sophisticated way, for instance addressing the specific needs of certain groups (young persons with dementia, person with sensory deficits, or cultural groups...). Alzheimer's associations are notably faced to critical issues (What to show? What and how to communicate?), without pessimism or overly naïve optimism. Representations of people with Alzheimer's disease are highly contrasted, between incarnation of heroism and figure of undesirable, as representations of caregivers (between sacrifice and abuse). Changes in Alzheimer disease representation will continue, thanks to the advocacy of persons with dementia themselves, activists and founders of groups and associations, in a society that some people appeal to become more dementia-friendly. This article aims to present the results of a content analysis of 1149 comments made by young internet users in response to 29 journalistic articles published by media outlets on the web. These comments (expressions of anger, cynical comments, explanation of clandestine migrations causes, etc), written spontaneously and anonymously, are a relevant way to explore all sorts of explanations, representations and different types of collective thoughts recorded in the socio-cognitive history of Algerian society. It can also play the role of a meta-system to a supposed social representation of clandestine migration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Zoriy N. PECULIARITIES OF INVETIGATION OF SOCIAL PERCEPTION IN SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY The article discusses the implementation of mechanisms of social perception in consideration of the social conditions of the individual in- formation society. The methodological problems of studying the social perception in social psychology have been grounded in terms of social cognition aiming to determine the integrity of the individual criteria. There have been indicated that the concept of social perception reveals the mechanisms and phenomena of perception, including the process of perception behavior of another person; interpretation of behavior in terms of perceived causes of behavior and expected outcomes; emotional evaluation; building strategies and behavior, all this formsng a complete picture of human perception of the world. Social perception at this stage of development of psychology is the notion categorially uncertain, because it has no key position in foreign psychology, the vast majority of it being absorbed by the psychology of influence and social cognition. In the context of study of the problem there has been raised the the question of investegation of the norm of "justice" on the background of a modern information society, which, respectively, determine the conditions of formation of enlightened spiritual personality that would ensure the future implementation of the principle of justice. Key words: social perception, social psychology, social cognition, personality’s integrity criteria.

The relationship to the face weaves close links with identity and otherness. It is not just a means of inter-human knowledge; it is also a major means of self/other communication underpinned by those mentalization networks that open up the attribution of intentions and emotions to others (theory of mind) as well as that particular disposition known as empathy, which enables us to put ourselves in another person’s shoes by feeling and understanding what they are experiencing while remaining ourselves. Neuropsychology attempts to shed light on the brain processes that underlie this encounter with the face and that may be altered by neurodegenerative diseases, and in particular by Alzheimer’s disease. The pandemic period also leads us to examine the clinical consequences of wearing a mask both in normal subjects and in subjects suffering from diseases that affect the relationship with the face of others. A humanistic neuropsychology must integrate an embodied ethics that attempts to discern what, in the perception of the Other, contributes to hindering the expression of otherness, which is inseparable from the human condition. In the pandemic context linked to Covid-19, neuropsychology with its clinical requirements and ethics with its performative aim on care practices, can thus cross-fertilize each other to propose compromises that are certainly attentive to public health but also to the well-being of each human being, especially the most vulnerable.

successful planning for tourism cannot exist without taking into account the opinions and attitudes of the host population. This paper analyses the attitudes of residents in a region of the Spanish Mediterranean coast where tourism is mainly based on the building of second homes, often on a massive scale. A face-to-face survey indicates that the opinion context in which residential tourismhas developed with such intensity is contained in a framework of social legitimisation. It is possible to distinguish between two groups: the defenders who tend to justify the residential tourism process by recognising the economic benefits it may bring and the critics who tend to question the socio-cultural and environmental costs of such development.

This paper aims to highlight the differences between men and women regarding impressionformation. It is based on secondary analysis of the data gathered in two previous experiments withsimilar conditions. However, the hypotheses formulated within this study have not been testedbefore. The current analysis was conducted on 86 participants, 47 males and 39 females. Their agesranged between 15 and 32, as they were either high school or university students engaged in amaster’s program. Their task consisted of watching a 14 seconds long video of a female confederatereading a neutral text and then evaluating her using a semantic differential with four dimensions:sociability, ethics, power and activity. Based on previous studies, it was hypothesized that men andwomen will form different first impressions of the actor employed in the movie. More precisely, themajority of the studies undertaken in this area compare men and women’s accuracy scores of facialexpressions decoding, yielding mostly significant differences, with women achieving higheraccuracy. A small percentage has addressed other aspects of social perception like: personality traitsor socio-demographic characteristics, yielding similar results. However, the current experimentfailed to reveal any differences between men’s and women’s evaluations. Accuracy assessmentswere disregarded in this study, since establishing unequivocal criteria for personality traitsevaluation is yet to be achieved. The results are consistent with a small percentage of the studiesconducted on gender differences in social perception and allow multiple interpretations.

Weight-related social stigma is associated with adverse health outcomes. Health care systems are not exempt of weight stigma, which includes stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. The objective of this study was to examine the association between body mass index (BMI) class and experiencing discrimination in health care.We used data from the 2013 Canadian Community Health Survey, which included measurements of discrimination never collected previously on a national scale. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the risk of self-reported discrimination in health care in adults (≥18 years) across weight categories: not obese (BMI30 kg/m2), obese class I (BMI = 30-35 kg/m2) and obese class II or III (BMI ≥ 35 kg/m2).One in 15 (6.4%; 95% CI: 5.7-7.0%) of the adult population reported discrimination in a health care setting (e.g. physician's office, clinic or hospital). Compared with those in the not obese group, the risk of discrimination in health care was somewhat higher among those in the class I obesity category (odds ratio [OR] = 1.20; 95% CI: 1.00-1.44) and significantly higher among those in class II/III (OR = 1.52; 95% CI: 1.21-1.91), after controlling for sex, age and other socioeconomic characteristics.Quantified experiences of weight-related discrimination underscore the need to change practitioner attitudes and practices as well as the policies and procedures of the health care system. More research is needed on the social and economic impacts of weight stigma to inform focused investments for reducing discrimination in the health care system as a microcosm of the society it reflects. Weight stigma is associated with adverse physical and mental health outcomes. Based on data from the first nationally representative survey on every day and medical discrimination, we found that 6.4% of Canadian adults experienced discrimination in a health care setting. Higher-weight people were significantly more likely to report discrimination in health care, after adjusting for sex, income group and other social and demographic characteristics, than those whose body mass index was in the not obese category. More research is needed to inform interventions to reduce weight stigma in the health care system.

The aim of this study was to document the scope of violations of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) "Code for Broadcast Advertising of Alcoholic Beverages" (CRTC Code) by drinking venues posting alcohol-related content on social media platforms, and to assess whether CRTC Code violations by drinking venues relate to their popularity among university students and to students' drinking behaviours. In phase 1 of the study, a probability sample of 477 students from four Canadian university responded to a questionnaire about their drinking and preferred drinking venues. In phase 2, a probability sample of 78 students assessed the compliance of drinking venues' social media posts with the 17 CRTC Code guidelines. We pooled both datasets and linked them by drinking venues.Popular drinking venues were overwhelming posting alcohol-related content that contravenes the CRTC Code. Adjusted effect estimates show that a decrease in the mean level of compliance with the CRTC Code was significantly associated with a 1% increase in popularity score of drinking venues (t-test, p.001). With regard to drinking behaviours, a 1% increase in the overall mean level of compliance with the CRTC Code was associated with 0.458 fewer drinking days per week during a semester (t-test, p = .01), 0.294 fewer drinks per occasion (t-test, p = .048) and a lesser likelihood of consuming alcohol when attending a drinking venue (t-test, p = .001).The results of this study serve as a reminder to territorial and provincial regulatory agencies to review their practices to ensure that alcohol advertising guidelines are applied and enforced consistently. More importantly, these results call for the adoption of federal legislation with a public health mandate that would apply to all media, including print, television and radio, digital and social. According to Canadian university students surveyed, popular drinking venues are overwhelmingly posting alcohol-related content on Facebook and Instagram that contravenes the CRTC "Code for Broadcast Advertising of Alcoholic Beverages" (CRTC Code). The heaviest drinkers tend to prefer drinking venues that post images that violate several CRTC Code guidelines. The current self-regulatory system fails Canadian youth by not taking action when a great number of alcohol portrayals and promotions support a culture of excessive drinking. The federal government should adopt new legislation that would apply to all media, include mandatory preclearance of alcohol advertisements and administrative and deterrence systems for infringements on marketing restrictions.

Adaptation to climate change is attracting more and more attention, as much in scientific fields as in political spheres. However, its implementation remains fragmented, especially in the urban areas of industrialised countries despite their significant vulnerability to climate hazards due to high density of populations and economic activities. The City of Paris’ Climate Plan was developed in 2006 through a participatory approach and includes a chapter dedicated to adaptation, based on the final report from the workshop concerning adaptation in Paris (named Workshop H). This paper reports the retrospective study conducted with the organizers (municipal and consultants) of the Climate Plan, observers and participants involved in Workshop H. Results suggest it is difficult to achieve a clear collective understanding of what adaptation to climate change implies and what it looks like once it is translated into actions in an urban area such as Paris. Among the main barriers towards a collective understanding, is the recent awareness of climate change, the semantic ambiguity behind the word “adaptation” as well as the overlap between mitigation and adaptation concepts.

Abstract: Social cognition, which refers to how people think about themselves and others in the social world, is a core component for social, professional and interpersonal functioning and is commonly impaired in schizophrenia. This cognitive domain has strong associations with daily activities and could act as a link between social functioning and neurocognition. Two primary domains of social cognition: theory of mind and emotions perception have been studied for long and many arguments highlighted the direct relationship between impairments of these processes and the alteration of functional outcomes in schizophrenia. During the past 15years, researchers are interested in social cognition and developed, in the field of cognitive remediation, some therapeutic approaches with the aim of reducing difficulties and handicaps. The first programs were supported by the assumption that the improvement of neurocognition was necessary before enhancing social cognition. At the same time, other authors hypothesized that it is possible to improve the performance of people with schizophrenia by directly targeting impaired functions, and so developed specific programs. More recently, researchers intend to develop global programs that take into account all components of social cognition impaired in schizophrenia in order to improve functional outcomes. Abstract: Social cognition is described as the processes underlying interpersonal relationships. The crucial role of these processes in rehabilitation, especially in adult psychiatry, has raised needs of clinical assessment in this particular cognitive domain. However, social cognition is a multidimensional construct which has been studied in numerous recent international researches. This review is aimed at inventorying available tools in French language for social cognition assessment in adults, and at drawing recommendation for practice in clinical neuropsychology. Results show that despite the lack of available tools, the assessment of social cognition is feasible in several dimensions, such as facial emotion recognition, theory of mind, alexithymia and emotional awareness. Each of the identified tools has specific benefits and limits that delimitate their potential usefulness. Globally, the incomplete validation of tools, as well as their heterogeneity and their multidetermination should lead to some caution when assessing performances and interpreting results. However, when crossing assessments and controlling for basic neurocognitive difficulties, the identified tools can provide detailed information about each patient''s social cognition profile. Studies remain necessary to further validate existing tools and to allow more reliable and diversified assessment. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: It is now well-recognized that cognitive dysfonctions contribute to a decisive way to the difficulties of the everyday, social and professional life of the people with schizophrenia. The cognitive variables would explain between 16 and 30% of the variance in the functional status when assessed one to three and a half years later. However, the specificity of the complex relationships between the cognitive domains and the functional variables still remains to be identified. To this end, it is necessary to carry out studies by respecting various principles: selecting not multi-determined cognitive tasks; investigating specific daily-life tasks (e.g. shopping, choosing a menu, preparing a meal), in particular by an observation in real situation in order to identify the problematic components; this has to be made by determining a priori hypotheses regarding the cognitive nature of the difficulties; taking into account the heterogeneity of the cognitive deficits and the functional difficulties of people with schizophrenia. It also remains to investigate the presence of mediator variables of the relationships, such as the potential of learning, the social cognition, the metacognitive processes and the intrinsic motivation. Besides, other personal or environmental factors can also play a role in the functional status, as for example, the negative symptoms, the awareness that has the person of his(her) state and its consequences, or the critical attitude of relatives towards the person with schizophrenia. Abstract: Societal changes permeate our perceptions of adolescence and lead to a reading disorder psychodynamic adolescent, constantly at work. In light of the history of child psychiatry, we hypothesize that these changes are necessarily accompanied by an evolution of care devices to respond to new forms of expression issues, if not to new problems. Starting from this premise, we argue that creating Maison des adolescents is a response congruent with clinical practice that illustrates, also, some aspects of societal change.
