In this paper, the asymptotic waveform evaluation (AWE) technique is first applied to the conventional eigenmode expansion method for characterizing a power/ground (P/G) plane pair and analyzing the simultaneous switching noise on such plane pairs for printed circuit boards or multichip modules. The application of AWE avoids a large number of iterations in computing the impedance frequency response of a P/G plane pair structure and greatly reduces the computation time. Meanwhile, to obtain an accurate solution in an entire frequency range, we employ the complex frequency hopping technique which can help select multiple expansion points. In addition, the proposed approach can also be used to characterize the P/G plane pair structures with irregular shapes. Three examples demonstrate its high efficiency and good accuracy. The eigenmode expansion method (EEM) is a convenient technique for characterizing a power/ground (P/G) plane pair structure. The requirements of the plane pair's shape, however, and a double-infinite series in its equation limit its applications. To overcome its disadvantages and extend its applications, this paper proposes some techniques for the EEM and makes some modifications to it. First, by employing the newly presented inverted composition method and the segmentation method, the improved EEM can be used to characterize a holey P/G plane pair with irregular shapes. Second, by employing a trigonometric Fourier series and a particular Pade approximation method--the [eta]/-algorithm, the double-infinite series in EEM can be changed into a single one and its convergence can be accelerated apparently so that the computation efficiency of the EEM is greatly improved. An example is considered to compare the numerical data of the new EEM with corresponding measurement results, thus demonstrating the good accuracy. The computation time of the proposed method is compared with that of the finite-element method (FEM), which shows that the new method has higher efficiency. A novel wideband bandpass filter with a very compact size is presented in this article. Using a side-coupled stepped impedance resonator, wideband characteristics with adjustable centre frequency and 3-dB fractional bandwidth can be obtained easily. Finally, a filter sample is designed and fabricated to provide an experimental verification on the proposed topology. Good insertion/return losses, flat group delay, wide bandwidth as well as ultra compact size are achieved as demonstrated in both simulation and experiment, which makes this filter a very promising candidate for applications in future wideband communication system. An efficient expression of the effective permittivities along x -, y -, z -direction is obtained by analogy with the circuit concept of series–parallel connection of capacitance. Under the condition of numerical stability, the approximate formulae of effective permittivities for various inhomogeneous cell mesh are combined with the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) scheme of arbitrary spatial cell size to calculate resonant frequency of 3-D cavity. A novel, multilayer fractal PBG is presented here as the substrate for a microstrip line and the resulting configuration builds a low-pass filter of wide stopband. A time-domain full-wave method for the extraction of broadband equivalent circuit parameters of symmetrical coupled interconnection lines on chips is presented. This method is based on the two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. After determination of the even and odd mode propagation constant gamma and characteristic impedance Zc of the lines, the RLGC matrices per unit length can be obtained. Many techniques are proposed and used during the time-domain analysis to improve the efficiency. The circuit parameters extracted can be inserted into circuit simulation software to investigate the time-domain responses of high-speed integrated circuits on chips. A wideband bandpass filter using parallel-coupled-lines with periodical grooves is presented in this article. Owing to the slow wave effect brought by periodical grooves, the proposed structure's resonant frequency can be lowered effectively. This effect has been used in this article to realize wideband filter with compact size. Based on this theory, a two-pole compact wideband bandpass filter using proposed structures is designed and fabricated as a sample. This letter presents the design and experiment of a single-cavity dual-mode bandpass filter and a double-cavity dual-mode bandpass filter realized by substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) structure. Both the filters are designed and simulated by network theory and high frequency structure simulator (HFSS), and fabricated using multilayer low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology. This article proposes a novel wideband bandpass filter using a novel microstrip multiple-mode resonator (MMR). This MMR is composed of a section of open-ended microstrip-line and an asymmetric compact microstrip resonant cell (ACMRC) connected to the open-ended microstrip-line section at its central point. Its three resonant modes are employed in this article to construct the wider passband of the proposed filter. In addition, multiple transmission zeros brought by the ACMRC will help to create a quasi-elliptic response and extend the stopband. Finally, a demonstration filter is designed, fabricated and tested to show the validity of the proposed structure.
