Raceway curvature ratio is a very important parameter, because its values influence the performance characteristics of rolling-element bearings, their durability and the level of generated vibrations. However, the level of generated vibrations is one of the most important operating parameters of the rolling-element bearings. Excessive vibrations generated by rolling-element bearings affect the operation of the whole mechanism. The article presents experimental studies aimed at evaluation of influence of the inner and outer raceway curvature ratios of 6304-type rolling-element bearings on generated vibrations values. The raceway curvature ratio was determined based on results of metrological measurements. For this purpose, the radii of the inner and outer raceways as well as the diameters of the balls were measured. Design and principle of operation of an innovative system for analysis of the raceway geometry of the rolling bearing rings was presented. The vibration analysis was carried out in three frequency ranges, i.e. low (50-300 Hz), medium (300-1,800 Hz) and high (1,800-10,000 Hz). Values of measured vibrations were expressed in Anderon units. The test results showed that increase in the raceway curvature ratio causes a moderate decrease in the value of the generated vibrations. The research results presented in this article will serve as a guidance to designers and manufacturers of the rolling-element bearings on how to modify the geometry of raceways and balls to obtain bearings that generate low vibration values. That is very important in car transportation.

The composition, sizes and shapes of particles in the clouds of Venus have previously been studied with a variety of in situ and remote sensor measurements. A number of major questions remain unresolved, however, motivating the development of an exploratory mission that will drop a small probe, instrumented with a single-particle autofluorescence nephelometer (AFN), into Venus’s atmosphere. The AFN is specifically designed to address uncertainties associated with the asphericity and complex refractive indices of cloud particles. The AFN projects a collimated, focused, linearly polarized, 440 nm wavelength laser beam through a window of the capsule into the airstream and measures the polarized components of some of the light that is scattered by individual particles that pass through the laser beam. The AFN also measures fluorescence from those particles that contain material that fluoresce when excited at a wavelength of 440 nm and emit at 470–520 nm. Fluorescence is expected from some organic molecules if present in the particles. AFN measurements during probe passage through the Venus clouds are intended to provide constraints on particle number concentration, size, shape, and composition. Hypothesized organics, if present in Venus aerosols, may be detected by the AFN as a precursor to precise identification via future missions. The AFN has been chosen as the primary science instrument for the upcoming Rocket Lab mission to Venus, to search for organic molecules in the cloud particles and constrain the particle composition.

Objectives: The circadian clock is an autonomous oscillator that controls key aspects of cell physiology, including metabolism, transcriptional state, and cell signaling. Disturbances of circadian rhythms lead to disruption of cell and tissue homeostasis, which promotes carcinogenesis. The aim of the study was to determine the expression of circadian rhythm-related genes in endometrial cancer and to select miRNAs involved in the regulation of their expression. Material and methods: 50 endometrial tissue samples were collected from patients who underwent hysterectomy: 40 diagnosed with endometrial cancer and 10 without cancer. Expression profile of circadian rhythm-related genes was evaluated using microarrays and validated with RT-qPCR. MicroRNA expression was assessed using microarrays. Then mirTAR tool was used to identify miRNAs involved in the expression regulation of circadian rhythm-related genes. Results: CLOCK expression is disrupted in endometrial cancer, which may be due to miR-15b, miR-331-3p and miR-200a overexpression. Elevated NPAS2 and CSNK1D levels may be associated with miR-432 silencing. In addition, high miR--874 and miR-200a expression may be potentially responsible for the reduction of PER3 level. Conclusions: Change of CLOCK, CSNK1D, NPAS2 and PER3 expression may suggest that circadian rhythms are disrupted in endometrial cancer. In this paper the distribution of electrification current flowing across a pipe, for alternating charge near a surface, is presented. A distribution of charge density was arbitrarily assumed compatible to the Stern theory. Assuming that the velocity distribution is parabolic (in laminar regime) or logarithmic (in turbulent regime), the convective current density can be obtained. The distribution of current density shows changes of sign at different distances from the boundary. This may be the reason for the change of total electrification current sign that is often observed during experimental measurements. The genesis of the research work presented in this paper constitutes the issue of the effective and efficient recognition of single-source one-time partial discharge forms that can occur in insulation systems of power transformers. The paper presents research results referring to the use of single-direction artificial neural networks for recognizing basic partial discharge forms that can occur in paper-oil insulation impaired by aging processes. The research work results presented show the recognition effectiveness of basic partial discharge forms depending on the descriptor of the analysis of the acoustic emission signal analysis. The detailed cognitive aim was selection of input parameters and an artificial neural network which would be the best, considering recognition effectiveness and processing time, and which could be used as a classifier in an expert diagnostic system making identification of partial discharges measured by using the acoustic method possible. The paper presents results the aim of which was determining the most favorable conditions of ECT (Electrostatic Charge Tendency) measurement taking of insulation oils in the spinning disk system. The work proved that a proper selection of the size and roughness of the disk surface makes the measured volume density of charge [q.sub.w] independent of the hydrodynamic conditions in the measuring system on the solid and liquid phase border. Charge [q.sub.w] density meets then the criterion of a material coefficient and can be used for comparing the results obtained from the systems varying in dimensions and hydrodynamic conditions. The changes suggested also ensure a high repeatability and reproducibility of the results obtained. Index Terms--Dielectric liquids, power transformer insulation, transformer oil.

In early February 2001 (during the austral summer), over 900 000 digital images of ice crystals were recorded at the South Pole using two ground-based cloud particle imagers (CPIs). Of these, 721 572 crystals >50 [micro]m were classified into crystal habits. When sorted by number, 30% of the crystals were rosette shaped (mixed-habit rosettes, platelike polycrystals, and rosette shapes with side planes), 45% were diamond dust (columns, thick plates, and plates), and 25% were irregular. When sorted by area, rosette shapes comprised 50%, diamond dust 30% and irregular 20%. By mass, the percentages were 57% rosette shapes, 23% diamond dust, and 20% irregular. Particle size distributions as a function of maximum dimension and equivalent radius are compared with previous studies. Particles are generally found to be slightly larger than previous austral wintertime studies. In 2002, a polar nephelometer (PN) that measures scattering phase function was incorporated with one of the CPIs. Correlated measurements between the two instruments showed that 22[degrees] and 46[degrees] peaks in the phase function were present when diamond dust was recorded by the CPI, but not when rosette shapes were present. Visual observations confirmed the presence of 22[degrees] and 46[degrees] atmospheric halos in some, but not all, of the diamond dust events. No visual halos were observed when rosette shapes were precipitating. Average PN phase functions are presented for diamond dust and rosette shapes. The diamond dust and rosette-shaped ice crystals appear to be very similar in shape to those observed by CPIs in cirrus clouds. Cloud conditions at the South Pole that were associated with various crystal types are discussed, as are some effects of blowing snow.

The subject matter of this paper refers to the application of optical spectral diagnostics to the detection of electromagnetic waves generated by partial discharges. The research work refers to creeping discharges at bakelite/oil interface. The analysis of optical spectrum time changes was performed. The influence of voltage on the changes of the creeping discharge optical spectrum was determined. The spectrum distibutions were determined in the area of creeping discharges. The results obtained at this stage of the research can constitute a source material for people dealing with issues connected with electrical material science and diagnostics of insulation systems. The subject matter of this paper refers to the improvement of the acoustic emission (AE) method when used for detection, measurement and location of partial discharges (PDs) in oil insulation systems of power appliances. The detailed subject matter refers to the issues connected with the application of modern methods of digital processing of signals obtained during technical high-power measurements. The paper presents the results of measurements and analyses of the AE pulses generated in setups making the modeling of basic PD forms that can occur in oil insulations possible. The research concentrated mainly on the following types of PDs: point-plane, multipoint-plane, multipoint-plane with a layer of pressboard, surface, generated in gas bubbles and on the indeterminate-potential particles moving in oil. In each case, the acoustic pulses generated by PDs in both positive and negative half times of the voltage supplying the spark gaps under study were analyzed. The AE pulses measured were subject to the wavelet analysis. For each of the PD forms the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) was determined and the corresponding time-frequency distributions were drawn. Moreover, for the AE pulses generated by PDs of the surface and multipoint-plane types, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) was calculated, the runs of the particular details for six frequency levels and the approximation run were presented. In reference to the DWT analysis for the particular details, the probability density functions (PDF) and the autocorrelation functions (ACF) were determined at the particular levels of decomposition. Also columnar diagrams showing the energy value that is transferred at the particular levels of decomposition were presented. Moreover, the energy density spectrum runs determined through a FFT were presented for comparison. The Morlet wavelet was used to determine the CWT, and the symlet wavelet was used to calculate the DWT. Next, the distributions obtained for the particular PD forms underwent a comparative analysis taking into account the voltage polarization. It was observed that different frequency structures occur for the particular PD forms. Also, a different time of coherent structure duration for the particular PD forms was observed. The paper presents results of measurements and analysis of the flow electrification process in the Swinging Cylinder System. This system is similar to the Couette system. The proposed system has the ability to perform different movement function of the internal electrode. The identification of the electrification process was made based on small step movements of the electrode in both directions. The battery powered measurement device was mounted inside the movable inner cylinder. In addition, it allows for the wireless transmission of the measured data. A series of the electrification current measurements were made in response to the impulse changes of the speed of the measuring electrode. The article presents the results of measurements and analysis of the flow electrification process. The research is presented with a new type of measurement instrument, in which one of the electrodes moves in an oscillating manner. The arrangement comprises two parallel plates and the liquid is relocated in one dimension. One of the electrodes is in the form of a copper wire. As a result, the liquid distribution is assumed as very simple and similar to the classic Stokes boundary layer. The electrification current measurements for different oscillation frequencies were performed in such an arrangement. The basic characteristics of the measured current and the determined process models were tested. The nonlinear approach and the linear approach were used. In the case of the nonlinear mode, the displacement of electrode was employed as an input. Hammerstein's mode with a piecewise linear input nonlinearity estimator was used for identification. In the case of the linear mode, the calculated velocity magnitude was used as an input into the system. The discrete time Output Error model and the Transfer Function model were used as a linear model. In each case, very good compliance was obtained between the simulation responses and the actual current measurements. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This paper is related to the phenomenon of streaming electrification. The selected results of nonlinear identification of the electrification process are presented. We described the signals used for identification and validation and then two structures of the models used: the nonlinear autoregressive model and the Hammerstein-Wiener model. We then conducted parametric identification and compared the obtained results. We used the Gauss function as the input signal. In the case of the autoregressive model, we used the sigmoid network to estimate the nonlinearity. In the case of the Hammerstein-Wiener model, we tested various types of input nonlinearities. The piecewise linear nonlinearity estimators turned out to be the most effective. Results for the most effective models of both structures: the results of the nonlinear ARX model and the Hammerstein-Wiener model were similar and had varying fit values in the range of 1 to 3 percent. They also had similar generalisation features. In all cases, we also obtained similar shapes of the processes of residues and correlation functions. They indicate a relatively faultless representation of the responses of models as well as certain differences, especially in the end part of the processes representing the given process.
