Abstract

We present a preliminary list of the Culicidae species collected in seven localities at the province of Misiones,Argentina, since the mosquito fauna of this region is poorly known. Mosquito sampling was carried out during springsummer,between August 2006 and January 2007, the months of highest abundance of these insects. Collection of specimenswas made with a CDC-like trap (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) in peri-urban zones. Sixty-five species wereidentified. The geographic distribution of Anopheles darlingi, Uranotaenia davisi and Howardina fulvithorax is extended.

Abstract

Introduction: The CoQun® study is a multicenter, controlled trial aimed to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of Coqun®, an ophthalmic solution of Coenzyme q10 (CoQ10) and Vitamin E (VitE), in patients affected by primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Pre-clinical studies and small non-controlled clinical trials have previously shown a potential role of CoQ10 and VitE in glaucoma neuroprotection, both in vitro and in vivo. Methods: Randomized, parallel arm, multicenter, double-blind study. POAG patients with an IOP ranging from 17 to 21 mm Hg on monotherapy with a prostaglandin analogue (PGA) will be considered for study enrollment. Inclusion criteria will be visual field (VF) mean deviation between − 4 and − 10 dB and VF Pattern Standard Deviation between 4 and 10 dB. Eligible patients will be randomized to receive CoQun® (Arm A) or placebo (Arm B), in addition to PGA monotherapy. Planned Outcomes: Primary outcome will be time to progression, defined as the time between the baseline visit and the visit with confirmed VF progression. A total of 612 patients are planned to be enrolled, to detect a hazard ratio of 0.65, with a power of 80% and an alpha error of 0.05 (two-sided). For study power calculation, 10% non-evaluable patients are assumed. This is the first study investigating, in a randomized, double-blind and controlled fashion, the neuroprotective effects of CoQ10 and VitE in POAG patients. Abstract

The progress in high performance computing we are witnessing today offers the possibility of accurate electron density calculations of systems in realistic physico-chemical conditions. In this paper, we present a strategy aimed at performing a first-principle computation of the low energy part of the X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) spectrum based on the density functional theory calculation of the electronic potential. To test its effectiveness, we apply the method to the computation of the X-ray absorption near edge structure part of the XAS spectrum in the paradigmatic, but simple case of Cu2+ in water. In order to keep into account the effect of the metal site structure fluctuations in determining the experimental signal, the theoretical spectrum is evaluated as the average over the computed spectra of a statistically significant number of simulated metal site configurations. The comparison of experimental data with theoretical calculations suggests that Cu2+ lives preferentially in a square-pyramidal geometry. The remarkable success of this approach in the interpretation of XAS data makes us optimistic about the possibility of extending the computational strategy we have outlined to the more interesting case of molecules of biological relevance bound to transition metal ions. We present a fully general derivation of the Laplace–Young formula and discuss the interplay between the intrinsic surface geometry and the extrinsic one ensuing from the immersion of the surface in the ordinary Euclidean three-dimensional space. We prove that the (reversible) work done in a general surface deformation can be expressed in terms of the surface stress tensor and the variation of the intrinsic surface metric. Abstract

We present precision lattice calculations of the pseudoscalar decay constants of the charmed sector as well as determinations of the bottom quark mass and its ratio to the charm quark mass. We employ Nf=2+1+1 dynamical quark gauge configurations generated by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration, using data at three values of the lattice spacing and pion masses as low as 210 MeV. Abstract

Physical review / D 95(9), 094515(2017). doi:10.1103/PhysRevD.95.094515, We present physics results from simulations of QCD using $N _f$ = 2 dynamical Wilson twisted mass fermions at the physical value of the pion mass. These simulations are enabled by the addition of the clover term to the twisted mass quark action. We show evidence that compared to previous simulations without this term, the pion mass splitting due to isospin breaking is almost completely eliminated. Using this new action, we compute the masses and decay constants of pseudoscalar mesons involving the dynamical up and down as well as valence strange and charm quarks at one value of the lattice spacing, a ≈ 0.09 fm. Further, we determine renormalized quark masses as well as their scale-independent ratios, in excellent agreement with other lattice determinations in the continuum limit. In the baryon sector, we show that the nucleon mass is compatible with its physical value and that the masses of the Δ baryons do not show any sign of isospin breaking. Finally, we compute the electron, muon and tau lepton anomalous magnetic moments and show the results to be consistent with extrapolations of older ETMC data to the continuum and physical pion mass limits. Abstract

The Smit-Swift-Aoki formulation of a lattice chiral gauge theory is presented. In this formulation the Wilson and other non invariant terms in the action are made gauge invariant by the coupling with a nonlinear auxilary scalar field, omega. It is shown that omega decouples from the physical states only if appropriate parameters are tuned so as to satisfy a set of BRST identities. In addition, explicit ghost fields are necessary to ensure decoupling. These theories can give rise to the correct continuum limit. Similar considerations apply to schemes with mirror fermions. Simpler cases with a global chiral symmetry are discussed and it is shown that the theory becomes free at decoupling. Recent numerical simulations agree with those considerations.

Abstract

We present unquenched lattice QCD results for the matrix elements of four-fermion operators relevant to the description of the neutral K and D mixing in the standard model and its extensions. We have employed simulations with Nf=2+1+1 dynamical sea quarks at three values of the lattice spacings in the interval 0.06-0.09 fm and pseudoscalar meson masses in the range 210-450 MeV. Our results are extrapolated to the continuum limit and to the physical pion mass. Renormalization constants have been determined nonperturbatively in the RI-MOM scheme. In particular, for the kaon bag parameter, which is relevant for the K¯0-K0 mixing in the standard model, we obtain BKRGI=0.717(24).

Abstract

We prove that conservation of the stress tensor is a consequence of the invariance of the partition function under canonical diffeomorphisms. From this observation a simple and general derivation of the formula which gives the local expression of the stress tensor of a molecular system in terms of its microscopic degrees of freedom readily follows. The derivation is valid in the canonical as well as the microcanonical ensemble. It works both in the classical and in the quantum mechanical settings and for arbitrary boundary conditions. In particular, if periodic boundary conditions are assigned to the system, the usual minimal-image prescription is naturally born out for mathematical consistency. An interesting outcome of our general analysis is that only in the case of a short-range interaction potential a truly local formula for the stress tensor can exist. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We present the first Nf=2+1+1 results for the matrix elements of the operators describing neutral K and D mixing in the Standard Model and its extensions. The combination of maximally twisted sea quarks and Osterwalder-Seiler valence quarks ensures O(a)-improvement and continuum like renormalization pattern. We have used the Nf=2+1+1 dynamical quark gauge configurations generated by ETMC. Simulations include three lattice spacings in the interval [0.06:0.09] fm and pseudoscalar meson masses in the range [230:500] MeV. Our results are extrapolated to the continuum limit and to the physical quark masses. The calculation of the renormalization constants has been performed non-perturbatively in the RI-MOM scheme.

Abstract

We present precise lattice computations for the b-quark mass, the quark mass ratios mb/mc and mb/ms as well as the leptonic B-decay constants. We employ gauge configurations with four dynamical quark flavors, up/down, strange and charm, at three values of the lattice spacing (a ~ 0.06 - 0.09 fm) and for pion masses as low as 210 MeV. Interpolation in the heavy quark mass to the bottom quark point is performed using ratios of physical quantities computed at nearby quark masses exploiting the fact that these ratios are exactly known in the static quark mass limit. Our results are also extrapolated to the physical pion mass and to the continuum limit and read: mb(MSbar, mb) = 4.26(10) GeV, mb/mc = 4.42(8), mb/ms = 51.4(1.4), fBs = 229(5) MeV, fB = 193(6) MeV, fBs/fB = 1.184(25) and (fBs/fB)/(fK/fpi) = 0.997(17)., Version to appear in PRD. Abstract

We present results on the nucleon scalar, axial and tensor charges as well as on the momentum fraction, and the helicity and transversity moments. The pion momentum fraction is also presented. The computation of these key observables is carried out using lattice QCD simulations at a physical value of the pion mass. The evaluation is based on gauge configurations generated with two degenerate sea quarks of twisted mass fermions with a clover term. We investigate excited states contributions with the nucleon quantum numbers by analyzing three sink-source time separations. We find that, for the scalar charge, excited states contribute significantly and to a less degree to the nucleon momentum fraction and helicity moment. Our analysis yields a value for the nucleon axial charge agrees with the experimental value and we predict a value of 1.027(62) in the $\overline{\text{MS}}$ scheme at 2 GeV for the isovector nucleon tensor charge directly at the physical point. The pion momentum fraction is found to be $\langle x\rangle_{u-d}^{\pi^\pm}=0.214(15)(^{+12}_{-9})$ in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ at 2 GeV., Comment: The experimental value of the helicity plotted in Fig.17 is corrected. Abstract

We present a lattice QCD calculation of the pseudoscalar decay constants fK, fD and fDs performed by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with Nf=2+1+1 dynamical fermions. We simulated at three different values of the lattice spacing, the smallest being approximately 0.06fm, and with pion masses as small as 210MeV. Our main results are: fK+/fπ+=1.183(17), fK+=154.4(2.1)MeV, fDs=242.1(8.3)MeV, fD=201.9(8.0)MeV, fDs/fD=1.199(25) and (fDs/fD)/(fK/fπ)=1.005(15).

Abstract

We present a lattice QCD calculation of the pseudoscalar decay constants fK, fD and fDs performed using the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with Nf = 2 + 1 + 1 dynamical quarks, which include in the sea, besides two light mass degenerate quarks, also the strange and charm quarks with masses close to their values in the real world. The simulations are based on a unitary setup for the two light mass-degenerate quarks and on a mixed action approach for the strange and charm quarks. We use data simulated at three different values of the lattice spacing in the range 0.06 - 0.09 fm and at pion masses in the range 210 - 450 MeV. Our main results are: fK+ / fpi+ = 1.184 (16), fK+ = 154.4 (2.0) MeV, which incorporate the leading strong isospin breaking correction due to the up- and down-quark mass difference, and fK = 155.0 (1.9) MeV, fD = 207.4 (3.8) MeV, fDs = 247.2 (4.1) MeV, fDs / fD = 1.192 (22) and (fDs / fD) / (fK / fpi) = 1.003 (14) obtained in the isospin symmetric limit of QCD. Combined with the experimental measurements of the leptonic decay rates of kaon, pion, D- and Ds-mesons our results lead to the following determination of the CKM matrix elements: |Vus| = 0.2269 (29), |Vcd| = 0.2221 (67) and |Vcs| = 1.014 (24). Abstract

We present simulations of QCD using Nf=2 dynamical Wilson twisted mass lattice QCD with physical value of the pion mass and at one value of the lattice spacing. Such simulations at ~0.09 fm became possible by adding the clover term to the action. While O(a) improvement is still guaranteed by Wilson twisted mass fermions at maximal twist, the introduction of the clover term reduces cutoff effects related to isospin symmetry breaking. We give results for a set of phenomenologically interesting observables like pseudo-scalar masses and decay constants, quark masses and the anomalous magnetic moments of leptons. We mostly find remarkably good agreement with phenomenology, even though we cannot take the continuum and thermodynamic limits.

Abstract

International audience; In this contribution, results from $N_f=2$ lattice QCD simulations at one lattice spacing using twisted mass fermions with a clover term at the physical pion mass are presented. The mass splitting between charged and neutral pions (including the disconnected contribution) is shown to be around $20(20)~\mathrm{MeV}$. Further, a first measurement using the clover twisted mass action of the average momentum fraction of the pion is given. Finally, an analysis of pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants is presented involving linear interpolations in strange and charm quark masses. Matching to meson mass ratios allows the calculation of quark mass ratios: $\mu_s/\mu_l=27.63(13)$, $\mu_c/\mu_l=339.6(2.2)$ and $\mu_c/\mu_s=12.29(10)$. From this mass matching the quantities $f_K=153.9(7.5)~\mathrm{MeV}$, $f_D=219(11)~\mathrm{MeV}$, $f_{D_s}=255(12)~\mathrm{MeV}$ and $M_{D_s}=1894(93)~\mathrm{MeV}$ are determined without the application of finite volume or discretization artefact corrections and with errors dominated by a preliminary estimate of the lattice spacing.

Abstract

We present a precise lattice QCD determination of the b-quark mass, of the B and Bs decay constants and first preliminary results for the B-mesons bag parameter. Simulations are performed with Nf = 2 Wilson twisted mass fermions at four values of the lattice spacing and the results are extrapolated to the continuum limit. Our calculation benefits from the use of improved interpolating operators for the B-mesons and employs the so-called ratio method. The latter allows a controlled interpolation at the b-quark mass between the relativistic data around and above the charm quark mass and the exactly known static limit.

We present preliminary results at beta = 1.95 (a = 0.077 fm) on the first unquenched N_f=2+1+1 lattice computation of the B_K parameter which controls the neutral kaon oscillations in the Standard Model. Using N_f=2+1+1 maximally twisted sea quarks and Osterwalder-Seiler valence quarks we achieve O(a) improvement and a continuum-like renormalization pattern for the four-fermion operator. Our results are extrapolated/interpolated to the physical light/strange quark mass but not yet to the continuum limit. The computation of the relevant renormalization constants is performed non perturbatively in the RI'-MOM scheme using dedicated simulations with N_f=4 degenerate sea quark flavours produced by the ETM collaboration. We get B_K^{RGI} (a = 0.077) = 0.747(18), which when compared to our previous unquenched N_f=2 determination and most of the existing results, suggests a rather weak B_K^{RGI} dependence on the number of dynamical flavours. We are at the moment analysing lattice data at two additional beta values which will allow us to perform an extrapolation to the continuum limit.

Abstract

We compute non-perturbatively the B-parameters of the complete basis of four-fermion operators needed to study the Kaon oscillations in the SM and in its supersymmetric extension. We perform numerical simulations with two dynamical maximally twisted sea quarks at three values of the lattice spacing on configurations generated by the ETMC. Unwanted operator mixings and O(a) discretization effects are removed by discretizing the valence quarks with a suitable Osterwalder-Seiler variant of the Twisted Mass action. Operators are renormalized non-perturbatively in the RI/MOM scheme. Abstract

We present a lattice QCD calculation of the heavy-light decay constants f_B and f_Bs performed with Nf=2 maximally twisted Wilson fermions, at four values of the lattice spacing. The decay constants have been also computed in the static limit and the results are used to interpolate the observables between the charm and the infinite-mass sectors, thus obtaining the value of the decay constants at the physical b quark mass. Our preliminary results are f_B=191(14) MeV, f_Bs=243(14) MeV, f_Bs/f_B=1.27(5). They are in good agreement with those obtained with a novel approach, recently proposed by our Collaboration (ETMC), based on the use of suitable ratios having an exactly known static limit.

Abstract

We present a lattice QCD calculation of the pseudoscalar decay constants $f_K$, $f_D$ and $f_{D_s}$ performed by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ dynamical fermions. We simulated at three different values of the lattice spacing, the smallest being approximately $0.06fm$, and with pion masses as small as $210$MeV. Our main results are: $f_{K^+}/f_{\pi^+}=1.183(17)$, $f_{K^+}=154.4(2.1)$MeV, $f_{D_s}=242.1(8.3)$MeV, $f_D=201.9(8.0)$MeV, $f_{D_s}/f_D=1.199(25)$ and $(f_{D_s}/f_D) / (f_K/f_\pi) = 1.005(15)$., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, presented at the 31st International Symposium on Lattice Field Theory (Lattice 2013), 29 July - 3 August 2013, Mainz, Germany

Abstract

We prove that the stress tensor, τab, of a molecular system with arbitrary, short-range interactions can be point-wisely expressed as the functional derivative of the partition function with respect to the local deformation tensor. In this approach, the set of components of τab has a simple interpretation as the set of Lagrangian multipliers which one needs to introduce to enforce the conditions relating point particle displacements to the body local deformation tensor.
