The construction of a forming limit diagram (FLD) is a conventional approach to obtain limit strains and to evaluate the formability of sheet metal. Appropriate necking criteria should be applied to determine the forming limit curve (FLC) accurately. In recent years, deep research on the determination of the FLC has been carried out, meanwhile, several necking criteria have been proposed. However, the application of inappropriate necking criteria would cause deviations when determining FLCs. In this study, both Marciniak and Nakajima tests were carried out on the AA5086 aluminum sheet to make a comparative investigation of different necking criteria in the determination of FLCs. In the Marciniak test, four existing necking criteria were chosen to construct FLCs, and analyzed in detail. The well-performed time dependent and position dependent methods were selected for the Nakajima test. Meanwhile, the modified Wang method based on the height change of the adjacent points was proposed. The comparative results showed that the time and position dependent methods were relatively conservative in both experiments, while the modified Wang method could identify the onset of localized necking more accurately.

The relativistic quantum dynamics of the generalized Klein-Gordon (KG) oscillator having position-dependent mass in the G\"{o}del-type space-time is investigated. We have presented the generalized KG oscillator in this space-time, and discussed the effect of Cornell potential and linear potential for our considered system. In a recent paper by B. G. da Costa et al. [Phys. Rev. E 102, 062105 (2020)2470-004510.1103/PhysRevE.102.062105], the phenomenological Langevin equation and the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation for an inhomogeneous medium with a position-dependent particle mass and position-dependent damping coefficient have been studied. The aim of this comment is to present a microscopic derivation of the Langevin equation for such a system. It is not equivalent to that in the commented paper.

This article considers a single-machine group scheduling problem with due-window assignment, where the jobs are classified into groups and the jobs in the same group must be processed in succession. The goal is to minimize the weighted sum of lateness and due-window assignment cost, where the weights depend on the position in which a job is scheduled (i.e., position-dependent weights). For the common, slack, and different due-window assignment methods, we prove that the problem can be solved polynomially, i.e., in O N log N time, where N is the number of jobs.

We present the quantum and classical mechanics formalisms for a particle with position-dependent mass in the context of a deformed algebraic structure (named $\kappa$-algebra), motivated by the Kappa-statistics. From this structure we obtain deformed versions of the position and momentum operators, which allow to define a point canonical transformation that maps a particle with constant mass in a deformed space into a particle with position-dependent mass in the standard space. This paper extends sequencing games as introduced by Curiel et al. (1989) to the setting with a position-dependent learning effect. We show that these games are balanced, and analyze the family of equal gains sharing (EGS) rules. In contrast to games without learning effect, we show that only a specific class of EGS rules leads to core allocations. This allocation rule is characterized axiomatically, and we also study its relationship with the β -rule, earlier introduced by Curiel et al. (1994).

Cutters with high flexibility, e.g. side-and-face cutters and band saw cutters, are widely used in industries for finishing of narrow and deep grooves or parting operations. However, because of this flexibility, chatter vibration tends to occur, and it is unique in that the mode shape along the teeth affects the present vibration, the regenerative vibration, and the compliance at the present cutting tooth in both magnitude and phase, which is new to the literature. Hence, a novel regenerative chatter stability model is developed where the position-dependent modal displacement ratio in the cutting direction is considered. Hyper-Kamiokande detector is proposed as a next generation underground water Cherenkov detector in Japan, and is planned to be an order of magnitude bigger than its predecessor, Super-Kamiokande. In order to further improve the detector capabilities in both low and high energy sectors, the multi-PMT modules instrumented with multiple 3-inch PMTs are being developed, in addition to the improved high quantum efficiency 20-inch PMTs. We developed a moveable laser system that can illuminate different positions on the photocathode to measure the characterization of the 3-inch PMTs as a function of the position on the photocathode.

We present a brief introduction to braids, in particular simple positive braids, with a double emphasis: first, we focus on term rewriting techniques, in particular, reduction diagrams and decreasing diagrams. The second focus is our employment of the colored braid notation next to the more familiar Artin notation. Whereas the latter is a relative, position dependent, notation, the former is an absolute notation that seems more suitable for term rewriting techniques such as symbol tracing. Artin's equations translate in this notation to simple word inversions. With these points of departure we treat several basic properties of positive braids, in particular related to the word problem, confluence property, projection equivalence, and the congruence property. In our introduction the beautiful diamond known as the permutohedron plays a decisive role.

Visual scenes are initially processed via segregated neural pathways dedicated to either of the two visual hemifields. Although higher-order visual areas are generally believed to utilize invariant object representations (abstracted away from features such as stimulus position), recent findings suggest they retain more spatial information than previously thought. Here, we assessed the nature of such higher-order object representations in human cortex using high-resolution fMRI at 7T, supported by corroborative 3T data. We show that multi-voxel activation patterns in both the contra- and ipsilateral hemisphere can be exploited to successfully classify the object category of unilaterally presented stimuli. Moreover, robustly identified rank order-based response profiles demonstrated a strong contralateral bias which frequently outweighed object category preferences. Finally, we contrasted different combinatorial operations to predict the responses during bilateral stimulation conditions based on responses to their constituent unilateral elements. Results favored a max operation predominantly reflecting the contralateral stimuli. The current findings extend previous work by showing that configuration-dependent modulations in higher-order visual cortex responses as observed in single unit activity have a counterpart in human neural population coding. They furthermore corroborate the emerging view that position coding is a fundamental functional characteristic of ventral visual stream processing.

This paper studies single-machine due-window assignment scheduling problems with truncated learning effect and resource allocation simultaneously. Linear and convex resource allocation functions under common due-window (CONW) assignment are considered. The goal is to find the optimal due-window starting (finishing) time, resource allocations and job sequence that minimize a weighted sum function of earliness and tardiness, due window starting time, due window size, and total resource consumption cost, where the weight is position-dependent weight. Optimality properties and polynomial time algorithms are proposed to solve these problems.

In this paper, we introduce a group scheduling model with time-dependent and position-dependent DeJong’s learning effect. The objectives of scheduling problems are to minimize makespan, the total completion time, and the total weighted completion time, respectively. We show that the problems remain solvable in polynomial time under the proposed model.

Rigorous use of SUSYQM approach applied for Klein-Gordon equation with scalar and vector potentials is discussed. International audience; This paper studies the management of three yard cranes in two adjacent container blocks in line, where cranes can move from one block to the other. Comparing with existing literature, the new multi-yard-crane scheduling problem incorporates different constraints together: (i) three yard cranes are deployed simultaneously in two adjacent blocks, (ii) non-crossing and inter-crane interference constraints of yard cranes are considered, (iii) the processing time of each container depends on its real-time location, i.e., position-dependent processing times. For the problem, a 0–1 mixed integer programming (MIP) model is constructed to minimize the total flow time to reduce the total container storage time in container yards, which helps to save container yard resources and increase production efficiency. The proposed model can be solved optimally by CPLEX for small-size instances. As the concerned problem is NP-hard, a fast heuristic and an improved genetic algorithm are devised to produce near-optimal solutions for large-size instances. Numerical experiments validate the developed MIP model and demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.

The interest in physical systems with position-dependent mass (PDM) is always topical. In this work we present a new way to construct kinetic energy operators (KEO’s) for particles endowed with a position varying mass within the Schrodinger equation. Taking recent developments of non-Hermitian quantum mechanics into account, we start with a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and we recall that it is quasi-Hermitian and can be always associated to a Hermitian partner. The latter is then used along with the formalism of supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM) to generate exactly solvable models on the basis of shape invariance condition. Some known and new concrete examples are considered as illustrations of the proposed scheme.

Iterative learning control (ILC) enables high performance for systems that execute repeating tasks. Norm-optimal ILC based on lifted system representations provides an analytic expression for the optimal feedforward signal. However, for large tasks the computational load increases rapidly for increasing task lengths, compared to the low computational load associated with so-called frequency domain ILC designs. The aim of this paper is to solve norm-optimal ILC through a Riccati-based approach for a general performance criterion. The approach leads to exactly the same solution as found through lifted ILC, but at a much smaller computational load ( O ( N ) vs O ( N 3 ) ) for both linear time-invariant (LTI) and linear time-varying (LTV) systems. Interestingly, the approach involves solving a two-point boundary value problem (TPBVP). This is shown to have close connections to stable inversion techniques, which are central in typical frequency domain ILC designs. The proposed approach is implemented on an industrial flatbed printer with large tasks which cannot be implemented using traditional lifted ILC solutions. The proposed methodologies and results are applicable to both ILC and rational feedforward techniques by applying them to suitable closed-loop or open-loop system representations. In addition, they are applied to a position-dependent system, revealing necessity of addressing position-dependent dynamics and confirming the potential of LTV approaches in this situation.

WOS: 000454472000163, In the present study we have investigated the bound energy levels and intersubband optical transitions in the Tietz-Hua quantum well for a spatially varying effective mass distribution. The energy levels and eigenfunctions are obtained by solving the effective mass equation through a variational approach. The obtained numerical calculations show that the spatially varying effective mass has a significant effect on the subband energies and transitions between the sub bands in the Tietz-Hua quantum well. We conclude that, the energy levels and hence energy differences between the subband states decrease with increasing the stability and uniformity of the effective mass and eventually converge to the results of the constant effective mass. Furthermore, it was found that the size of the Tietz-Hua quantum well has an important effect on optical responses based on the intersubband transitions and additionally, the asymmetrical form of the Tietz-Hua quantum well is more predominant in stable and uniform effective mass case.

The objective of this paper is to introduce a modified local-to-global methodology to understand the effect of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) confinement on square concrete section. Traditionally, the effect of confinement on square sections has been evaluated through the so-called “arching effect” developed for steel and FRP-confined sections. FRP-confined square section was characterized by a non-uniform confinement stress field, which makes concrete strength strongly position dependent. This novel concept resulted in the “arching effect” being re-examined, which led to a methodology to evaluate the stress-strain behavior of concrete subject to arbitrary FRP confinement stress ratio at a local level. Because of the conception and realization of an innovative true-triaxial testing machine, by the first authors of this paper, research could be extended thus allowing for new test results that form the base of 1) an improved local constitutive relationship and 2) a modified approach for the evaluation of axial stress-strain behavior of an FRP confined square concrete column. The proposed approach has been validated by a set of experimental results of square columns and gave a new perspective on FRP confinement efficiency for square section.

A construction method of infinite families of quasi-exactly solvable position-dependent mass Schr\"odinger equations with known ground and first excited states is proposed in a deformed supersymmetric background. Such families correspond to extensions of known potentials endowed with a deformed shape invariance property. Two different approaches are combined. The first one is a generating function method, which enables to construct the first two superpotentials of a deformed supersymmetric hierarchy, as well as the first two partner potentials and the first two eigenstates of the first potential, from some generating function $W_+(x)$ [and its accompanying function $W_-(x)$]. The second approach is the conditionally deformed shape invariance method, wherein the deformed shape invariance property of the starting potentials is generalized to their extensions by adding some constraints on the parameters and by imposing compatibility conditions between sets of constraints. We consider quantum walks with position dependent coin on 1D lattice $\mathbb{Z}$. The dispersive estimate $\|U^tP_c u_0\|_{l^\infty}\lesssim (1+|t|)^{-1/3} \|u_0\|_{l^1}$ is shown under $l^{1,1}$ perturbation for the generic case and $l^{1,2}$ perturbation for the exceptional case, where $U$ is the evolution operator of a quantum walk and $P_c$ is the projection to the continuous spectrum. This is an analogous result for Schr\"odinger operators and discrete Schr\"odinger operators. We present the Fokker-Planck equation (FPE) for an inhomogeneous medium with a position-dependent mass particle by making use of the Langevin equation, in the context of a generalized deformed derivative for an arbitrary deformation space where the linear (nonlinear) character of the FPE is associated with the employed deformed linear (nonlinear) derivative. The FPE for an inhomogeneous medium with a position-dependent diffusion coefficient is equivalent to a deformed FPE within a deformed space, described by generalized derivatives, and constant diffusion coefficient. The deformed FPE is consistent with the diffusion equation for inhomogeneous media when the temperature and the mobility have the same position-dependent functional form as well as with the nonlinear Langevin approach. The deformed version of the H-theorem permits to express the Boltzmann-Gibbs entropic functional as a sum of two contributions, one from the particles and the other from the inhomogeneous medium. The formalism is illustrated with the infinite square well and the confining potential with linear drift coefficient. Connections between superstatistics and position-dependent Langevin equations are also discussed.

The leakage power has become a vital downside in modern VLSI technology, with the advent in the area of high performance chips and portable electronics. Thus it is necessarily to invest more time and effort in designing low power chip without sacrificing its high performance. This paper describes a steady state gate leakage based on position and biasing states. As a basic reference universal gates are selected and compared the gate leakage of conventional NAND and NOR gate using 180nm TSMC technology. It is shown that the overall leakage in a NAND -gate is smaller than in a NOR gate if equal size transistors are used. It also compares the leakage value of proposed leakage reduction techniques with conventional NAND gate. Simulation results shows up to 88% in average gate leakage reduction with modified techniques.

In this manuscript, we present a general computational method for characterizing the molecular structure of liquid water interfaces as sampled from atomistic simulations. With this method, the interfacial structure is quantified based on the statistical analysis of the orientational configurations of interfacial water molecules. The method can be applied to generate position dependent maps of the hydration properties of heterogeneous surfaces. We present an application to the characterization of surface hydrophobicity, which we use to analyze simulations of a hydrated protein. Since the parity-time-(PT-) symmetric quantum mechanics was put forward, fundamental properties of some linear and nonlinear models with PT-symmetric potentials have been investigated. However, previous studies of PT-symmetric waves were limited to constant diffraction coefficients in the ambient medium. Here we address effects of variable diffraction coefficient on the beam dynamics in nonlinear media with generalized $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric Scarf-II potentials. The broken linear PT symmetry phase may enjoy a restoration with the growing diffraction parameter. Continuous families of one- and two-dimensional solitons are found to be stable. Particularly, some stable solitons are analytically found. The existence range and propagation dynamics of the solitons are identified. Transformation of the solitons by means of adiabatically varying parameters, and collisions between solitons are studied too. We also explore the evolution of constant-intensity waves in a model combining the variable diffraction coefficient and complex potentials with globally balanced gain and loss, which are more general than PT-symmetric ones, but feature similar properties. We give exact analytical results for diffusion with a power-law position dependent diffusion coefficient along the main channel (backbone) on a comb and grid comb structures. For the mean square displacement along the backbone of the comb we obtain behavior < x(2) (t)> similar to t(1/(2-alpha)), where alpha is the power-law exponent of the position dependent diffusion coefficient D (x) similar to |x|(alpha). Depending on the value of alpha we observe different regimes, from anomalous subdiffusion, superdiffusion, and hyperdiffusion. For the case of the fractal grid we observe the mean square displacement, which depends on the fractal dimension of the structure of the backbones, i.e., < x(2) (t)> similar to t((1+upsilon)/(2-alpha)), where 0 < upsilon< 1 is the fractal dimension of the backbones structure. Railway container terminals, where gantry cranes are responsible for loading and unloading containers between freight trains and yards, are important hubs of hinterland logistics transportation. Terminal managers confront the challenge in improving the efficiency of their service. As the most expensive equipment in a terminal, the operational performance of gantry cranes is a crucial factor. In this paper, the gantry crane scheduling problem of railway container terminals is investigated. A mixed integer programming model which considers the effect of dwelling position dependent processing times is formulated. In addition, the safety distances, the travel times and the non-crossing requirement of cranes are incorporated in the mathematical model. A novel discrete artificial bee colony algorithm is presented to solve the intractable scheduling problem. Computational experiments are conducted to evaluate the proposed algorithm on some randomly constructed instances based on typical terminal operational data. Experimental results show that the proposed approach can obtain near optimal solutions for the investigated problem in a reasonable computational time.

We study the classical scheduling problem of minimizing makespan on a proportionate flowshop. Position-dependent job processing times in the most general way are considered. We introduce a polynomial time solution procedure which is more efficient than the one known in the literature. The problem is further extended to allow job-rejection. This more general version is shown to be solved in polynomial time as well.

The aim of this paper is to show the benefits of a Riccati-based approach, which is developed in this paper for a general performance criterion and is applicable to both linear time-invariant (LTI) and linear time-varying (LTV) systems. The approach is implemented on an industrial position-dependent flatbed printer with large tasks which cannot be implemented using lifted ILC. Compared to lifted ILC, the proposed resource-efficient ILC provides the same high performance, but at a significantly smaller computational load (O(N) vs O(N3)) making it more suitable for practical implementation.

Background. Lung transplantation is the optimal treatment for end stage lung disease. Donor shortage necessitates single-lung transplants (SLT), yet minimal data exists regarding regional ventilation in diseased versus transplanted lung measured by Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT).Method. We aimed to determine regional ventilation in six SLT outpatients using EIT. We assessed end expiratory volume and tidal volumes. End expiratory lung impedance (EELI) and Global Tidal Variation of Impedance were assessed in supine, right lateral, left lateral, sitting, and standing positions in transplanted and diseased lungs. A mixed model with random intercept per subject was used for statistical analysis.Results. EELI was significantly altered between diseased and transplanted lungs whilst lying on right and left side. One patient demonstrated pendelluft between lungs and was therefore excluded for further comparison of tidal variation. Tidal variation was significantly higher in the transplanted lung for the remaining five patients in all positions, except when lying on the right side.Conclusion. Ventilation to transplanted lung is better than diseased lung, especially in lateral positions. Positioning in patients with active unilateral lung pathologies will be implicated. This is the first study demonstrating changes in regional ventilation, associated with changes of position between transplanted and diseased lung.

International audience; The object of this study is to assess the relevance of MRI water/fat separation to quantify fat and water in fish in a view of high throughput measurements. The major issue for this purpose is the spatial inhomogeneities of the signal. They are inherent to MRI and they may induce a position dependent bias in the quantification. We have combined water/fat separation methods from the literature and extended them in order to estimate these inhomogeneities. Experimental results show the efficiency of our method and validate the possibility to use MRI for water and fat quantification at a rate higher than one minute per fish cutlet.

We probe the local detection efficiency in a nanowire superconducting single-photon detector along the cross-section of the wire with a far subwavelength resolution. We experimentally find a strong variation in the local detection efficiency of the device. We demonstrate that this effect explains previously observed variations in NbN detector efficiency as a function of device geometry.

A classical field theory for a Schrödinger equation with a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian describing a particle with position-dependent mass has been recently advanced by Nobre and Rego-Monteiro (NR) [Phys. Rev. A 88 (2013) 032105]. This field theory is based on a variational principle involving the wavefunction Ψ(x,t) and an auxiliary field Φ(x,t). It is here shown that the relation between the dynamics of the auxiliary field φ(x,i) and that of the original wavefunction Ψ(x,t) is deeper than suggested by the NR approach. Indeed, we formulate a variational principle for the aforementioned Schrödinger equation which is based solely on the wavefunction Ψ(x,t). A continuity equation for an appropriately defined probability density, and the concomitant preservation of the norm, follows from this variational principle via Noether´s theorem. Moreover, the norm-conservation law obtained by NR is reinterpreted as the preservation of the inner product between pairs of solutions of the variable mass Schrödinger equation. BackgroundIn 1984, Cartwright suggested that physicians should differentiate between patients with either positional obstructive sleep apnoea (POSA) or non-positional OSA. Treatment of POSA has advanced dramatically recently with the introduction of a new generation of positional therapy (PT), a small device attached to either the neck or chest which corrects the patient from adopting the supine position through a vibrating stimulus. Encouraging data have been published suggesting that this simple therapy successfully prevents patients with POSA from adopting the supine position without negatively influencing sleep efficiency, as well as allowing for good adherence. Unfortunately, evaluating the efficacy of PT and comparing results are hindered by the fact that there are no universally used POSA criteria. In 1984, Cartwright introduced the arbitrary cut-off point of a difference of 50 % or more in apnoea index between supine and non-supine positions.IntroductionThe aim of this project was to introduce a new classification system, which ideally should identify suitable candidates for PT: patients that will benefit from a clinically significant improvement of their OSA with PT. The shared use of this classification can facilitate collection of data across multiple centres and comparison of results across studies. We report on the development and process that resulted in the Amsterdam Positional OSA Classification (APOC).MethodA panel of three field experts were instructed to independently assign the diagnosis POSA to 100 randomly selected patients they considered likely to benefit from a clinically significant improvement of their OSA with PT. In a group setting, the completed lists were compared. Discrepancies were discussed until consensus was met. This resulted in the consensus standard used to calibrate the new classification. Using the nominal group technique, the APOC was developed.ResultsThe APOC criteria evolve around the percentage of total sleep time spent in either the worst sleeping position (WSP) or the best sleeping position (BSP) and the apnoea-hypopnoea index (AHI) in BSP. On applying APOC, one discriminates between the true positional patient, the non-positional patient and the multifactorial patient, whose OSA severity is influenced in part by sleep position. APOC has an increased sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) compared to previously applied POSA criteria in identifying patients that will benefit from positional therapy.

This paper investigates a single-machine two-agent scheduling problem to minimize the maximum costs with position-dependent jobs. There are two agents, each with a set of independent jobs, competing to perform their jobs on a common machine. In our scheduling setting, the actual position-dependent processing time of one job is characterized by variable function dependent on the position of the job in the sequence. Each agent wants to fulfil the objective of minimizing the maximum cost of its own jobs. We develop a feasible method to achieve all the Pareto optimal points in polynomial time.

On prouve ici la recurrence au sens de Harris de $X$ en utilisant un schema de regeneration entierement base sur les sauts du processus. De plus, on donnera des conditions explicites en terme de coefficients du processus $X$ permettant de controler la vitesse de convergence a l’equilibre en terme d’inegalites de deviations pour des fonctionnelles additives integrables.

Second order integrals of motion for 3d quantum mechanical systems with position dependent masses (PDM) are classified. Namely, all PDM systems are specified which, in addition to their rotation invariance, admit at least one second order integral of motion. All such systems appear to be also shape invariant and exactly solvable. Moreover, some of them possess the property of double shape invariance and can be solved using two different superpotentials. Among them there are systems with double shape invariance which present nice bridges between the Coulomb and isotropic oscillator systems. A simple algorithm for calculation the discrete spectrum and the corresponding state vectors for the considered PDM systems is presented and applied to solve five of the found systems., misprints are corrected and discussion is extended

Taking elastic anisotropy into consideration, we use a dislocation position dependent model to calculate the preferential formation site of noninterfacial 60° mixed dislocation segment in ellipsoid shaped InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) which is observed in the experiment. From the result, it is clear that the positions near the right edge of the quantum dot are the energy favorable areas for the noninterfacial 60° mixed dislocations.
