Bu çalışma, karşılaştırmalı bir bakış açısı benimseyerek Eavan Boland, Kathleen Jamie ve Gülten Akın'dan seçme şiirlerle kadın öznelliğinin yansımalarını inceler. İrlanda edebiyatından Boland, İskoç edebiyatından Jamie ve Türk edebiyatından Akın, hem toplumlarına uyum sağlamaya çalışan hem de çelişkili bir şekilde toplumlarının belirleyici rollerine karşı çıkan kadın öznelerinin belirli imgelerini şiirleştirir. Çalışmanın genel çerçevesini şairlerin poetikalarındaki öznelliğin devingenliği oluşturur. Çalışma, kadın imgesinin kabus gibi bir bedensellikle düşsel huzurlu ortamlar arasında nasıl sürekli bir değişimde olduğunu tartışır. Çalışma, şiirlerini şekillendiren edebi ve toplumsal kaynaklara atıfta bulunarak üç şairin karşılaştırılabilir özellikleriyle başlar. İlk ve son şiirlerindeki geçirgenliği göstermek için erken ve son derlemelerinin neden seçildiğiyle devam eder. Çalışma şiirleri iki kısımda inceler. İlk kısım, dil ve tarih çerçevesinde Kristeva'nın öznellik tartışmasına atıfta bulunarak öznenin toplumsal olanın müdahalesi karşısında nasıl hayatta kaldığını tartışır. İkinci kısım, tabiiyet sürecinde toplumsal olanın baskılamasını yeni bir akışkanlığa çeviren sevginin etkisini değerlendirir. Çalışma sonuç olarak, şairlerin ilk ve son şiirlerindeki sabit bir paradigma arayışları ve her seferinde yaşadıkları yenilgi neticesinde sürekli bir bağlantısızlığı kabul etmeleriyle kendilerine has bir birlik hissini açığa çıkarır. This study evaluates the facets of female subjectivity through selected poems of Eavan Boland, Kathleen Jamie and Gülten Akın from a comparative perspective. Boland from Irish literature, Jamie from Scottish literature and Akın from Turkish literature poeticize certain images of female subjects who have to adapt into their societies and react against the defining roles in a paradoxical way, which forms the main frame of the study, the dynamism of subjectivity in the poetries of Boland, Jamie and Akın. The study argues how the images of woman subjects undergo a consistent change between the dream-like peaceful atmospheres and nightmarish corporeality. The study starts with the discussion of comparable qualities that the three poets share by referring to the literary and social sources shaping their poetries. It continues with the reasons behind preferring the early and later collections in order to suggest the transitivity between their first and last poems. The study analyses the female subjectivity in the poems of Boland, Jamie and Akın in two parts. The first chapter argues how the subject survives against the intrusion of the social by referring to the Kristevan argument of subjectivity within the frames of language and history. The second chapter evaluates the influence of the amative powers subverting the repression of the social into a new fluidity in the subjection process. The study concludes by that three poets' search for a stable paradigm and their failure in each case in their early and later poems offer for them an idiosyncratic sense of unity through their acknowledgement of a continuous disconnectedness. 217

Edebiyatımızın usta öykücüleri arasında ismi anılan Sabahattin Ali, eserlerinde toplumun aksayan yanlarını betimleyerek okuru, bu doğrultuda düşünmeye sevk etmekte ve ideal toplumun çizgilerini örtülü bir şekilde hissettirmektedir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, Sabahattin Ali'nin eserlerini değerler eğitimi yönüyle incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Ali'nin üç roman, dört öykü ve bir tiyatro eseri incelenmiş ve incelenen eserlerde Milli Eğitim Bakanlığının 2017'de Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Öğretim Programında belirlediği 10 kök değer altında 35 alt değeri örneklendirecek iletiler tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmada yöntem olarak içerik analizi seçilmiş ve eserlerde değerler tek tek tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler not edilmiş, değerler tanımlanarak incelenen eserlerdeki iletiler, sayfa numaralarıyla her değere ait tabloda yansıtılmıştır. 10 kök değer içerisinde en fazla `sevgi` değerinin işlendiği tespit edilirken `adalet` değeriyle ilgili iletilere diğer değerlere oranla daha az rastlanılmıştır. İncelenen eserlerde değerlerin işlenme sıklığı ve yüzdesi kök değer ve alt değerleri içeren oranlarla ayrı ayrı verilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda incelenen eserler, değerler açısından çok zengin bir içeriğe sahip olmasalar da toplumda eksikliğini en çok hissettiğimiz sevgi, fedakarlık ve yardımseverlik gibi duygular, yazarın olayları ele alış tarzıyla somut bir şekilde resmedilmiş ve bu tür duyguların aslında toplumu oluşturan temel duygular olduğu okura yansıtılmıştır. Sabahattin Ali, who is mentioned among the master storytellers of our literature, encourages the reader to think in this direction and make the lines of the society to be felt implicitly in his works describing the disruptions of the society. The main purpose of this study is to examine Sabahattin Ali's works in terms of values education. In line with this purpose, Ali's three novels, four stories and one play were examined and in the examined works messages that exemplify the 35 subvalues under 10 root values, which were determined by the ministry of National Education in Turkish Language and Literature Curriculum in 2017, were identified. In the research, content analysis was chosen as a method and the values in the works were determined one by one. The data obtained were noted, the messages in the works examined by defining the values were reflected in the table of each value with the page numbers. While it was determined that the value of `love` was depicted the most in the 10 root values, the messages about the value of `justice` were encountered less compared to the other values. The frequency and percentage of processing of the values in the works examined were given separately with the ratios including the root values and the subvalues. As a result of this research; although the examined works do not contain a rich content in terms of values, lack of feelings such as love, sacrifice and benevolence we feel in the society were pictured in a concrete manner by the way the writer handles the events and it was reflected to the reader that such feelings are actually the basic feelings that form the society. 158

Bu tez Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu ve Ahmed Ali'nin romanlarındaki milliyetçiliği iki yazarın milliyetçiliği yorumlayışı bakımından karşılaştırmakta ve eserlerinde var olan milliyetçilik ideolojisi ile yozlaşma arasında bir ilişki kurmayı amaçlamaktadır. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu ve İngiliz Hindistan'ında iki Müslüman toplumda yetişmiş ünlü modern edebi figür olan ve kendilerinin de diplomat olarak hizmet ettikleri milli devletlerinin 20. Yüzyıl'da sırasıyla Türkiye ve Pakistan olarak ortaya çıkışlarına şahitlik eden Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu ve Ahmed Ali'nin eserleri, özellikle bu devletlerin kuruluşu ve kurulduktan sonraki süreçte, ülkelerindeki kültürel atmosferin oluşumunda da önemli bir rol üstlenmektedir. Bu çalışma bahsi geçen iki yazarın milliyetçilik görüşüne bağlılıkları açısından eserlerinde milliyetçiliği ele alışlarını ortaya koymayı hedeflerken, aynı zamanda mevcudiyetleri sömürge tecrübesinin yaşanıp yaşanmamasına bağlı olarak açıklanmaya çalışılan modernist milliyetçilik ve kültürel milliyetçilik gibi kavramlara başvurarak, Yakup Kadri ve Ahmed Ali'nin romanlarındaki milliyetçilik anlayışı arasındaki farklar da açıklanmaya çalışılacaktır. Yakup Kadri ve Ahmed Ali, hem dikkatli birer gözlemci hem de devlet işleyişini bilen diplomatlar olarak, milliyetçiliği toplumlarının varlığını ve gelişimini sağlayacak gerçek bir çözüm olarak yorumlamış ve bu çözümleri de ahlaki birer tercih olarak görmüşlerdir. This dissertation compares and contrasts the nationalism in the novels of Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu and Ahmed Ali with reference to their understanding of nationalism and aims at establishing the relation between nationalist ideology and corruption present in the novels of these writers. Being two modernist and famous literary figures of two Muslim communities in the Ottoman Empire and British India that witnessed the establishment of nation-states in the twentieth century, for which they served as diplomats for many years, the works of Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu and Ahmed Ali have strong influence on the construction of the cultural atmosphere in their societies, especially during and after the establishment of nation-states in what is now Turkey and Pakistan, respectively. While this study aims at explaining how these two writers position nationalism in their novels with specific references to their attachment to nationalist worldview, it also seeks to demarcate the differences in their understanding of nationalism by resorting to certain types of nationalism such as modernist nationalism and cultural nationalism, the existence of which is explained through their relations to the presence and absence of colonialist experience in general. Yakup Kadri and Ahmed Ali both knowing the state mechanism and being keen observers, interpreted nationalism according to what they believed as a true solution for the existence and development of their societies, thus accepting this solution as a moral choice as well. When the close relationship between literature and nation-states is considered, the construal of nationalism on a moral basis gives clues about not only the place of literature in the age of nation-states but also mirrors the attitude of the intelligentsia towards the idea of nationalism and people in general. Bu çalışma, Kate Chopin'in Uyanış, Zora Neale Hurston'ın Tanrıya Bakıyorlardı ve Sevgi Soysal'ın Yürümek romanlarında cinsel politikanın yansımalarını incelemektedir. Cinsel politika teorisi, cinsiyetler arasındaki güç farklılıklarının nedenlerini ve sonuçlarını inceleyerek; cinsiyetler arasında eşit olmayan güç dağılımını ortaya çıkaran bir methoddur. Bu teori ayrıca ataerkil sistemin yapısını da ortaya koyar. Öte yandan, edebiyat bireylerin yaşamını yansıtan en önemli kaynak olduğundan dolayı, cinsel politika teorisini de etkili bir şekilde anlamamızı sağlar. The term `sexual politics` is a method that reveals the unequal amount of power between sexes by examining the reasons and the consequences of power differences between sexes. This theory also puts forward the structure of patriarchy. On the other hand, as literature is the most important source that reflects the lives of individuals, it enables us to understand the term sexual politics effectively too. As the novels are from different historical and social context, the lives of the main characters reflecting sexual politics, prove that unequal sharing of power between sexes does not belong to a particular place or time, but it is universal and it is as old as the patriarchal system itself. Bu çalışmanın amacı Latife Tekin'in Sevgili Arsız Ölüm (1983) adlı romanının Dear Shameless Death (2001) adıyla İngilizce çevirisinde karşılaşılan kültürel öğelerin çevirisinde hangi çeviri stratejilerinin tercih edildiğini ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaçla, Sevgili Arsız Ölüm ve Saliha Paker ve Mel Kenne tarafından çevrilmiş olan Dear Shameless Death adlı İngilizce çevirisi karşılaştırmalı olarak analiz edilmiştir. İlk olarak Sevgili Arsız Ölüm adlı romandaki kültürel öğeler ve hedef kültürdeki karşılıkları belirlenmiştir ve bir örneklem kümesi oluşturulmuştur. Daha sonra örneklem kümesinde yer alan kültürel öğeler Newmark'ın (1988) oluşturmuş olduğu kültürel öğelerin sınıflandırılması şemasına göre sınıflandırılmıştır. Sonrasında ise bu öğeler geniş kapsamda Venuti'nin (1995) yerlileştirme ve yabancılaştırma stratejilerine göre değerlendirilmiştir. Son olarak da Eirlys E. Davies (2003) ve Javier Franco Aixelá'nın (1996) kültürel öğelerin çevrilmesi için önerdikleri taksonomiler kullanılarak ortak bir strateji grubu oluşturulmuş, kültürel öğeler bu taksonomilere göre incelenmiştir. Oluşturulan 100 adet örneklem kümesi incelendiğinde, çevirmenlerin kültürel öğelerin çevirisinde karşılaştıkları sorunları çözmek için bir yandan addition, preservation, orthographic adaptation gibi yabancılaştırma stratejilerini kullanırken diğer yandan omission, globalization ve localization gibi yerlileştirme stratejilerine başvurdukları görülmüştür. Kültürel öğelerin çevirisinde en sık başvurulan çeviri yönteminin ise globalization olduğu saptanmıştır. Creation ve transformation stratejileri için örnekler bulunamadığından bu çalışmanın kapsamı dışında bırakılmıştır. This study aims at demonstrating which translation strategies are preferred in order to deal with the translation of culture-specific items in Latife Tekin's Sevgili Arsız Ölüm (1983) and its English translation entitled Dear Shameless Death (2001). To achieve this primary aim, a comparative analyses is carried out between Sevgili Arsız Ölüm and Dear Shameless Death, translated into English by Saliha Paker and Mel Kenne, and a sample set consisting of conspicuous examples for culture-specific items is created. Then the culture-specific items in the sample set is classified according to Newmark's (1988) categorization of culture-specific items. These culture-specific items are analyzed according to Venuti's (1995) domestication and foreignization methods in broad sense. Finally, a common strategy group is created based on Eirlys E. Davies (2003) and Javier Franco Aixelá's (1996) taxonomies proposed for translation of culture-specific items and the samples are analyzed according to these taxonomies. When the sample group of 100 culture-specific items are analyzed, it has been seen that the translators used, on the one hand, foreignization strategies such as addition, preservation, orthographic adaptation and on the other hand, domestication strategies such as omission, globalization and localization in order to deal with translation of culture-specific items. The most frequently used strategy among others has been determined to be globalization strategy. Creation and transformation strategies were left out of this study's scope as there were not found any peculiar examples. 125

In the first chapter of the study, the main focus in on the woman question in the late Victorian era of the nineteenth century England. Particularly, the New Woman and the roots of first wave feminism are explained with its theoretical and historical background. In the second chapter, the woman question and the New Woman in the Ottoman Empire are analyzed with the rise of feminism in Ottoman society. Also, it is aimed to compare the New Woman in Britain and Ottoman societies in order to understand the desire and the disease of the New Woman. Furthermore, in the last two chapters, the focus is on representatives of the New Woman novels Handan by Halide Edip Adıvar and the Story of an African Farm by Olive Schreiner. The aim of this study is to discuss the heroines Handan and Lyndall comparatively in order to understand the metaphors of desire and disease of the New Woman in Ottoman and English societies within the scope of feminist criticism., Bu çalışmanın ilk bölümünde, temel odak noktası on dokuzuncu yüzyıl sonu geç Viktorya dönemi İngilteresi ve kadın sorunsalıdır. Özellikle, Yeni Kadın imgesi ve birinci dalga feminizminin doğuşu ve gelişimi tarihsel ve teori bağlamında incelenmiştir. İkinci bölümde, geç Osmanlı dönemi ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti kuruluş dönemi kadın sorunsalı ve feminizminin gelişimi analiz edilmiştir. Ayrıca, İngiltere ve Osmanlı'daki Yeni Kadın imgesi, arzu ve hastalıklarını anlayabilme amacıyla karşılaştırılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Yeni Kadın romanına örnek teşkil eden iki kadın yazar Olive Schreiner Bir Afrika Çiftliğinin Öyküsü ve Halide Edip Adıvar'ın Handan romanlarını Yeni Kadın'ın arzu ve hastalık metaforları göz önüne alınarak, feminist teori bağlamında karşılaştırmalı bir şekilde tartışmaktır.

1948'de Kayseri'de doğan Emir Kalkan, sadece Kayseri'nin değil Türk hikâyeciliğinin geleceğinde adından sıkça söz ettirecek önemli bir değeridir. Yazarın bu önemi, Kayseri özelinde Anadolu insanının yaşayışını, hayata bakış açısını ve psikolojisini, tüm bunlarla birlikte Kayseri'nin imkân ve imkânsızlıklarını hikâyelerinde etkili bir gözlem gücü ve kendine has üslubu ile işlemesinden ileri gelmektedir. Bütün ömrünü geçirdiği coğrafyayı ve o coğrafyanın insanlarını, değerlerini hikâyelerinde derinlemesine yansıtır. Hikâyeciliğimizde yeteri kadar yer bulamayan öz toprağının değerlerini, farklı bir soluk ve bakış açısının yanı sıra özgün bir üslûp ve sade bir Türkçe ile hikâyelerine taşır. The importance of author proceeds form his unique style and his effective monitoring ability in his works where he talked about the lives of the people in Anatolia, their perspective towards life and their psychology by focusing on Kayseri and besides all these things, he talked about the possibility and impossibility of Kayseri in his works. He reflects the geography where he lived for a life-spoon and people of that geography and the valves of them deeply. In his stories, he uses the valve of the territory that hasn't gained enough importance in our stories with a different perspective as well as his unique style and a pure Turkish language. Bu çalışmada modernist yazar Vüs'at O. Bener'in Buzul Çağının Virüsü (1984) ve Bay Muannit Sahtegi'nin Notları (1991) romanlarının, Gilles Deleuze'ün edebiyatın bir sağlık girişimi olduğuna dair önermesi üzerine düşünmek için üretken vakalar teşkil ettiğini savunuyorum. Bu romanların (yazan) öznelerine Bener'in kendine özgü `hasta` ve `şizoid` özne figürasyonunun birer modeli olarak yaklaşarak bu metinlerin öznellik sorununu bir sağlık sorunu olarak, iç dünya ile dış dünya, bireysel dert ile kolektif dert, özel tarih ile kamusal tarih arasındaki ayrımı hem biçimde hem içerikte sorunsallaştırarak irdelediklerini öne sürüyorum. Bu romanlarda yazı eyleminin yalnızca kişisel değil siyasal anlamları da olan bir çıkmaz ama aynı zamanda da bir çıkış yolu olarak belirmesinin bu öznellik sorunsallaştırmasının bir semptomu olduğunu savunuyorum. Nihayetinde, Bener'in karamsar olduğu düşünülegelen romanlarının aslında yeni bir yaşam ihtimaline dair bir tartışma açtıklarını göstermeyi hedefliyorum. In this study, I argue that modernist author Vüs'at O. Bener's novels Buzul Çağının Virüsü (1984) and Bay Muannit Sahtegi'nin Notları (1991) constitute productive cases for reflecting upon Gilles Deleuze's proposition on literature being an enterprise of health. Approaching the (writing) subjects of these novels as models of Bener's distinctive figuration of `sick` and `schizoid` subjects, I assert that these texts probe the question of subjectivity as a question of health, by challenging both in form and content the distinction between inner world and exterior world, individual concern and collective concern, private history and public history. The appearance of the act of writing in these novels as an impasse, but at the same time as a way-out, having not only personal but also political significations, I further argue, is a symptom of this problematization of subjectivity. I ultimately aim to show that Bener's novels, which have been deemed to be pessimist, indeed open a discussion on a new possibility of life. 105

Ever since Modernist and Capitalist systems started to steer human life, critical approaches towards these two phenomenon have treated as subjects in literary works. In such literary works, which question human being's perception of ethics, the relationship between power and person brings along the options of being included in the system and rejecting it. Standing against the "inevitable ending" which turns human being into an automat defined as "a bureaucratic steel cage" by Weber, Marx has relatively more optimistic attitude about the possibility of human to escape from the system. In his theatre play titled Gizler Carsisi , Turgay Nar narrates how human is corrupted through violence and control methods of power within the scope of hierarchical relations in the world. Messages that the author aims to give to readers/audience may differ in almost every stage; yet the main theme can be read as tragedy of human being which keeps to be objectified in front of the power. The strength behind money and power ensures a control over crowds via violence, memory impairment and amnesia. The author ironically narrates how humanbeing comes into power and then systematically puts pressure on the same species in order to disidentify them and include them into the system. Accordingly, civilization does not prevent humanbeing's insanity; the one who feeds this wild order and sacrifices oneself to it is nothing else than humanbeing. In the work, it is also emphasized that humanbeing is going to face "blinding and corruption" as soon as the questioning about the world comes to an end. In his work titled Gizler Carsisi, Turgay Nar ironically narrates how Besikci, an ordinary citizen, is systematically desensitized by the power and turned into a beast that does not hesitate to kill even his own child, through symbolical characters. Ozet Modernizm ve Kapitalizm sisteminin insanoglunun hayatina yon vermeye baslamasiyla bu iki olguya yonelik elestirel yaklasimlar, edebi eserlerde sikca islenmistir. Insanin etik algisinin da sorgulandigi bu tur eserlerde iktidar-birey arasindaki iliski, sisteme dâhil olma veya sisteme karsi cikma tercihlerini de beraberinde getirmektedir. Weber’in “burokratik demir kafes” olarak tanimladigi ve insanin bir otomat haline donusturuldugu “kacinilmaz son”a karsi cikan Marx; insanin sistemden uzaklasabilecegi konusunda daha iyimser bir tavir sergiler. Turgay Nar, Gizler Carsisi adli tiyatro metninde insanin dunyada hiyerarsik iliskiler sarmalinda iktidarin siddet ve kontrol yontemleriyle nasil curumeye ugratildigini anlatir. Yazarin, okuyucuya/seyirciye vermek istedigi mesajlar, hemen her sahnede degisse de ana tema iktidar karsisinda nesnelesen insanin trajedisi olarak okunabilir. Iktidar ve paranin gucu, kalabaliklar uzerinde siddet, unutkanlik, hafiza kaybi gibi vasitalarla denetim saglar. Yazar, insanin iktidara geldikten sonra hemcinsi uzerinde sistematik bir baski kurarak onu kimliksizlestirip sisteme dâhil ettigini ironik bir tarzda bu eserinde isler. Buna gore, uygarlik, insanoglunun cinnetini durduramamistir; bu vahsi duzeni emziren ve kendini ona tutsak/kurban eden de insanin kendisidir. Eserde, dunyayla ilgili sorgulamanin kesildigi an insanin “korlesme ve curume”yle karsi karsiya kalacagi tehlikesi de dile getirilir.

Ali Canip Yöntem (1887-1967) who is one of the prominent names of the national literary movement gave many works relating to literary theory and criticism as well as poem. Before being connected to national literary, author who has largely been seeking on the line extending from Muallim Naci to Cedideci (New Literature movement) and Fecr-i Aticis (Dawn of the Future) has deep thoughts in his many articles that will light the way for today’s artists and researchers either due to hiscommand of our classical literature or of Western Literature. From hiswritings in question, in our article, opinions of Yöntem about somematters such as what is the art and literature, why it is existing, whatcould be its power and effect, how to take advantage of art andliterature, the place and importance of the imitation in art, pleasure,beauty, perception and genius concepts, purpose of art, relationshipbetween artist and school of art, art and dialectic, poem and knowledge,poem and sensation etc were scanned and these opinions were whollyattempted to be assessed. Apart from these, problems collected undersome titles such as what, in fact, is the concept of national literature adhow it should be understood, our mistakes when assessing the concept“national”, dimensions of artist and public when assessing within thecontext of national literature have been the topic of the Ali CanipYöntem’s articles and opinions of author about these issues wereattempted to be examined by us. Yöntem also referred to the problemsabout limits of literary criticism and features which a reviewer musthave, and attached importance to the relationship of literary criticismwith literary text. Milli edebiyat akımının önde gelen isimlerinden olan Ali Canip Yöntem (1887 – 1967), şiirin yanı sıra edebiyat teorisine ve eleştirisine ilişkin eserler de vermiştir. Milli edebiyata mensup olmadan önce, Muallim Naci’den Edebiyatı Cedidecilere, Fecr-i Âticilere uzanan çizgide geniş bir arayış içinde olan yazar, yazdığı çok sayıdaki makalesinde, gerek dönemindeki Türk edebiyatına, gerekse klasik edebiyatımıza ve Batı edebiyatına hakimiyetiyle, günümüz sanatçı ve araştırmacılarına ışık tutacak derinlikli düşüncelere sahiptir. Makalemizde; söz konusu yazılarından hareketle, Yöntem’in; sanat ve edebiyatın ne olduğu, ne için var olduğu, gücünün ve etkisinin ne olabileceği, sanat ve edebiyattan nasıl yararlanılabileceği, sanatta taklit, haz, güzellik, sezgi, deha kavramlarının yeri ve önemi, sanatın gayesi, sanatçı – sanat mektebi ilişkisi, sanat ve diyalektik, şiir ve bilgi, şiir ve duygu gibi meselelerdeki görüşleri taranarak, bu düşünceleri bütünlüklü bir biçimde değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bunların dışında, milli edebiyat kavramının gerçekte ne olduğu ve nasıl anlaşılması gerektiği, bizde “milli”lik kavramı değerlendirilirken yapılan hatalar, milli edebiyat bağlamında değerlendirildiğinde sanatçı – halk ilişkisinin boyutları gibi başlıklarda toplanabilecek problemler de Ali Canip Yöntem’in makalelerine konu olmuş ve tarafımızdan, yazarın bu meselelerdeki görüşleri incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Yöntem, ayrıca, edebi eleştirinin sınırları ve eleştirmenin sahip olması gereken nitelikleri sorunlarına da değinmiş, edebi eleştirinin edebi metinle olan ilişkisini önemsemiştir.

It is seen that the “Kızılelma” motif that found an area of use in different genres of our traditional literature continues to make new senses in the Modern Turkish Literature with the pens of authors and poets such as Ziya Gökalp, Aka Gündüz, Ömer Seyfettin, Nihal Atsız, Niyazi Yıldırım Gençosmanoğlu, Dilaver Cebeci, Ragıp Şevki Yeşim, Mim Kemal Öke, Halil Delice. In our article, it’s attempted to introduce and assess these works and discussed new senses made by “Kızılelma” in our traditional and modern literature. Geleneksel edebiyatımızın farklı türlerinde kullanım alanı bulan “Kızılelma” motifinin, Yeni Türk Edebiyatında, Ziya Gökalp, Aka Gündüz, Ömer Seyfettin, Nihal Atsız, Niyazi Yıldırım Gençosmanoğlu, Dilaver Cebeci, Ragıp Şevki Yeşim, Mim Kemal Öke, Halil Delice gibi şair ve yazarların kaleminde yeni anlamlar kazanmaya devam ettiği görülmektedir. Makalemizde bu eserler tanıtılmaya ve değerlendirilmeye gayret edilmiş, “Kızılelma”nın geleneksel ve modern edebiyatımız içerisinde kazandığı anlamlar üzeride durulmuştur.

Compared to natural and applied sciences, the emergence of social sciences falls in with quite a late time period. The appearance and self-realization of literature, which forms one of the significant branches of social sciences, took place only at the beginning of 20. century. It is a well-known fact that the science of literature, with approximately a hundred-year history, has some short¬comings with respect to both terminology and methodol¬ogy. The primary problem that the literature scientists in Turkey as well as in the world should overcome is the question of basing the concepts upon an objective ground and minimizing the concept confusion. It is obvious that the science of literature, with its content of objective con¬cepts and terms and its peculiar language, will go beyond its present position. This study is intended to objectivize a few concepts of New Turkish Literature. However, needless to say, the shortcomings of the study is hoped to be supplemented by the eminent figures of the discipline in due course. Doğa ve fen bilimlerine göre sosyal bilimlerin or¬taya çıkışı oldukça geç bir zaman dilimine denk gelmek¬tedir. Sosyal bilimlerin önemli şubelerinden biri olan ede¬biyat biliminin ortaya çıkışı ve kendini kanıtlaması ise ancak 20. yüzyılın başından itibaren gerçekleşmiştir. Yaklaşık yüz yıllık geçmişi bulunan edebiyat biliminin gerek terminolojik düzeyde, gerekse yöntem bakımından bazı eksiklerinin olduğu ortadadır. Bütün dünyada ol¬duğu gibi Türkiye’de de edebiyat bilimcilerin halletmesi gereken sorunların başında kavramları nesnel bir zemine oturtup kavram kargaşasını en alt düzeye indirmek gel¬mektedir. İçeriği nesnelleştirilmiş kavram ve terimlerden oluşmuş ve kendine özgü bir dil kurmuş olan edebiyat biliminin, bulunduğu noktanın çok ötesine geçeceği orta¬dadır. Bu çalışma, Yeni Türk Edebiyatı alanının bazı kav¬ramlarını nesnelleştirmeye dönük bir amaç gütmekle bir¬likte, oldukça ciddi eksikleri barındırmakta ve bu eksik¬liklerin, alanın önde gelen, yetkin edebiyat bilimcilerince tamamlanacağı beklentisini taşımaktadır.

Archives are primary resources to refer for thosewho will do research on new Turkish literature field.Nevertheless, it can’t be said that they are utilized properlyuntil recent times. Lack of seperation and limitedaccess to archives have also influence on this issue. Inthis article, the archives related to research field of new Turkish literature is presented. State (Prime Ministry’s)Ottoman Archives are mentioned largedly. Divisions thatcontains information and documents on new Turkish literatureare explained. In addition to this, some exampleresearches that utilise the archives are also given.

Interdisciplinary connections in social siciencescontribute to the scientific qualificaitons of the thestudies. Therefore, “history” and “method of historicalstudies” are the initial fields for every literatureresearchers. 1970-1980 yılları Türk toplum hayatında ve siyasî tarihinde çalkantılı bir dönem olmuş, sonraki yıllara büyük izler bırakmıştır. Bu yıllarda edebiyatımızda ortaya konan romanlarda yazarlar ister istemez siyasî düşüncelerini eserlerine yansıtmışlardır. 1970 yılından 1980 yılına kadar yazılan romanların ele alındığı bu çalışmada siyasî eğilimlerin açıkça görüldüğü eserler temel alınmıştır. Çalışmada 1970-80 yılları arasında yazılan 2128 adet eser taranmış, bunlardan siyasî eğilimlerin en çok görüldüğü eserler seçilmiştir. Türk Edebiyatında yazılan romanların birçoğunda yazarlar romanlarını yaşadıkları hayatın bir parçası gibi görmüş, yaşadıkları tüm gelişmeleri romanda da anlatmaya çalışmıştır. Bu tez, Virginia Woolf ve Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar'ın yaşadığı bunalımın gerçek sebeplerini incelemektedir. Woolf ve Tanpınar, kültürel değişim ve bu değişimin toplum ve bireyler üzerindeki etkisine eserlerinde yer vermişlerdir. Bu çalışma, Woolf ve Tanpınar'ın yaşadığı bunalımın asıl sebebinin, toplumsal dönüşüm karşısında ikilemde kalmaları olduğunu iddia etmektedir. Woolf ve Tanpınar'ın günlükleri, bu tepkilerin en iyi analiz edildiği eserlerdir; bu günlüklerde yazarların iç çatışmaları, çevreleri hakkında fikir ve düşünceleri, bunalım hallerinin yanı sıra sanatçı ve yazar olarak entelektüel camia içerisindeki konumları hakkında bilgi verebilecek bir çok değerlendirme bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışma, günlükleri edebi ve sosyal açıdan değerlendirerek, bu eserlerin tutarlılığını, bir edebi tür olarak diğer nevilerden farkını, ve sosyal çevre ve durumla bağını incelemektedir. Bu günlükler, aynı zamanda Türkiye ve Avrupa'daki, özellikle de İngiltere'deki, toplumsal dönüşümü göstermesi açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Tanpınar'ın eserleri, Türk modernleşmesini ve bu modernleşmenin bireyler üzerindeki etkisini tahlil eden en önemli çalışmalar arasında yer almaktadır. Türk modernleşmesinin ne geleneksel ne de batılı, fakat farklı bir tarzda gerçekleştiğini göstermek için bu çalışmada, Türkiye'nin batılılaşma süreci ile Avrupa tarzı modernleşme, Aydınlanma ve modernite bağlamında karşılaştırılmıştır. Bu tez, Woolf, Tanpınar ve eserlerinin, özellikle de günlüklerinin, önemini toplumsal ve zihniyet değişimi ekseninde anlamaya katkı sağlamaktadır. This dissertation investigates the real source of Virginia Woolf and Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's tragedies by analyzing their diaries. Their awareness of cultural change and its effects on society led them to show their reactions in their works, in which their depression can be clearly seen. This study claims that their anxieties about social transformation were the main realities that they could not escape and thus became the central motive for their depression. Their concerns about social transformation can be best analyzed in their diaries since the diaries are full of their inner conflicts, feelings, and opinions about their surroundings, depressive moments, and their conflicts between aesthetics and politics that help us to analyze their roles as artists. I analyze Woolf and Tanpınar's diaries in terms of literary and social orientation, the question of existential authenticity, their connection with their social contexts, and the relation of their diaries to other genres. The diaries also reflect social transition in Turkey and Europe, and especially in Britain. Tanpınar's works are among the best sources that identify Turkish modernization and its impact on society. His diary brings a different interpretation to his tragedy of a changing civilization since it helps us to analyze the deepest concerns of Tanpınar and thus sheds light on him and his whole society. Woolf experienced a similar tragedy from a different cultural perspective. She emphasized that a change in human character is a sign of decadence, and she identified a twentieth-century crisis. To demonstrate that Turkish modernization was neither traditional nor truly Western but a chaotic mingling of the two, this study compares and contrasts Turkish Westernization with European modernization within the context of the Enlightenment and modernity. This dissertation makes an original contribution to understanding the position of Woolf, Tanpınar, and their works – especially their diaries – in the context of social and psychic transformation. 272

Haşim Koç Tercüme Metinlerin Ağı Olarak Kültür Repertuarı: Tanzimat'tan Sonraki Yeni Edebiyat (1830-1870) Bu tez, de Osmanlıların 1830 ile 1870 yıllan arasında Fransız kültürü ile olan karşılaşmalarını çok daha detaylı ele alacak bir projenin ana çerçevesini çizmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu karşılaşma sonucunda 1870 yılından itibaren Osmanlılara yeni bir seçim kümesi sağlayan bir repertuar meydana gelmiştir. Bu araştırma yeni repertuarın unsurlarım tanınırken, bu unsurların içerik analizlerini sonraki çalışmaya bırakmaktadır. Unsurlar olarak sözlükler ve dönemin yeni türdeki ilk örnekleri olan tercümeler incelenmiştir. Bu unsurlar Osmanlı reformcularının bilinçli bir çabası olarak ortaya çıkmıştır ve bu çaba elli yıl önce görülmeyen türlerin ve edebiyat ürünlerinin ortaya çıkmasıyla sonuçlandığından başarılı sayılabilir. Aslında, bu repertuarın oluşumunun aniden olmadığı, tam aksine eski repertuarın geleneksel öğeleriyle yeni repertuarın bilinmeyen öğeleri arasında uzun dönemli bir iletişimin sonucunda meydana geldiği de gözükmektedir. Bu nedenle, Osmanlıların önceki dönemlerde tercümeye bakışları da dikkate alınmıştır. Felsefi diyaloglar, tiyatro oyunları, romanlar ve şiirdeki ilk örnekler bizim üzerinde ısrarla durduğumuz kaynaklardı. Önceki dönemlerdeki gelişmelerin bu döneme etkisi, Lale Devri sonrası 18. yüzyıl esas alınarak incelenmiştir. Cultural Repertoire as a Network of Translated Texts: The New Literature after the Tanzimat Period (1830-1870) by Haşim Koç This thesis aims to draw the general framework of a broader project about the period between 1830 and 1870 with particular reference of the cross-cultural encounter of Ottomans with the French. This encounter ended up in the emergence of a new cultural repertoire in 1870 which provided a new set of options for the members of the Ottoman society. This study aims to focus on the description of the elements of the new repertoire, whereas the detailed project should deal with the content analysis in order to find out dynamics of the construction process of the new cultural repertoire. For the framework, dictionaries and translated literature in forms of new genres are primarily analyzed. This framework emerges after the conscious planning activity by the Ottoman reformers, which may be defined as a successful attempt because of the newly emerged literature, which was not seen fifty years ago. However, the appearance of this new repertoire does not take place suddenly, but on the contrary, it is the result of a long- term negotiation process between the traditional elements of the old repertoire and the unknown elements of the new repertoire. Thus, the earlier understanding of the Ottoman translation was also taken into consideration. The first samples of philosophical dialogues, theatre plays, novels, and poetry are of particular interests for us. Also the role of the earlier developments upon this period is taken into consideration with particular reference to 18th century beginning with Tulip Era. IV 227
