Bile acids (BAs) are natural metabolites in mammals and have the potential to function as drugs against viral infection. However, the limited understanding of chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) receptors and downstream signaling, along with its lower suppression efficiency in inhibiting virus infection limits its clinical application. In this study, we demonstrate that farnesoid X receptor (FXR), the receptor of CDCA, negatively regulates interferon signaling, thereby contributing to the reduced effectiveness of CDCA against virus replication. FXR deficiency or pharmacological inhibition enhances interferon signaling activation to suppress virus infection. Mechanistically, FXR impairs the DNA binding and transcriptional abilities of activated interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) through interaction. Reduced IRF3 transcriptional activity by FXR–IRF3 interaction significantly undermines the expression of Interferon Beta 1 (IFNB1) and the antiviral response of cells, especially upon the CDCA treatment. In FXR-deficient cells, or when combined with Z-guggulsterone (GUGG) treatment, CDCA exhibits a more potent ability to restrict virus infection. Thus, these findings suggest that FXR serves as a limiting factor for CDCA in inhibiting virus replication, which can be attributed to the “signaling-brake” roles of FXR in interferon signaling. Targeting FXR inhibition represents a promising pharmaceutical strategy for the clinical application of BAs metabolites as antiviral drugs.

The bile acid sodium symporter (BASS) family plays an important role in transporting substances and coordinating plants’ salt tolerance. However, the function of BASS in Brassica rapa has not yet been elucidated. In this study, eight BrBASS genes distributed on five chromosomes were identified that belonged to four subfamilies. Expression profile analysis showed that BrBASS7 was highly expressed in roots, whereas BrBASS4 was highly expressed in flowers. The promoter element analysis also identified several typical homeopathic elements involved in abiotic stress tolerance and stress-related hormonal responses. Notably, under salt stress, the expression of BrBASS2 was significantly upregulated; under osmotic stress, that of BrBASS4 increased and then decreased; and under cold stress, that of BrBASS7 generally declined. The protein–protein interaction analysis revealed that the BrBASS2 homologous gene AtBASS2 interacted with Nhd1 (N-mediated heading date-1) to alleviate salt stress in plants, while the BrBASS4 homologous gene AtBASS3 interacted with BLOS1 (biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles complex 1 subunit 1) via co-regulation with SNX1 (sorting nexin 1) to mitigate an unfavorable growing environment for roots. Further, Bra-miR396 (Bra-microRNA396) targeting BrBASS4 and BrBASS7 played a role in the plant response to osmotic and cold stress conditions, respectively. This research demonstrates that BrBASS2, BrBASS4, and BrBASS7 harbor great potential for regulating abiotic stresses. The findings will help advance the study of the functions of the BrBASS gene family.

Abstract Ovarian cancer (OV) poses a significant challenge in clinical settings due to its difficulty in early diagnosis and treatment resistance. FOXP4, belonging to the FOXP subfamily, plays a pivotal role in various biological processes including cancer, cell cycle regulation, and embryonic development. However, the specific role and importance of FOXP4 in OV have remained unclear. Our research showed that FOXP4 is highly expressed in OV tissues, with its elevated levels correlating with poor prognosis. We further explored FOXP4’s function through RNA sequencing and functional analysis in FOXP4-deficient cells, revealing its critical role in activating the Wnt signaling pathway. This activation exacerbates the malignant phenotype in OV. Mechanistically, FOXP4 directly induces the expression of protein tyrosine kinase 7 (PTK7), a Wnt-binding receptor tyrosine pseudokinase, which causes abnormal activation of the Wnt signaling pathway. Disrupting the FOXP4-Wnt feedback loop by inactivating the Wnt signaling pathway or reducing FOXP4 expression resulted in the reduction of the malignant phenotype of OV cells, while restoring PTK7 expression reversed this effect. In conclusion, our findings underscore the significance of the FOXP4-induced Wnt pathway activation in OV, suggesting the therapeutic potential of targeting this pathway in OV treatment.

Background: Ferroptosis, a newly recognized form of programmed cell death, is distinguished by its reliance on reactive oxygen species and iron-mediated lipid peroxidation, setting it apart from established types like apoptosis, cell necrosis, and autophagy. Recent studies suggest its role in exacerbating or mitigating diseases by influencing metabolic and signaling pathways in conditions such as tumors and ischemic organ damage. Evidence also links ferroptosis to various kidney diseases, prompting a review of its research status and potential breakthroughs in understanding and treating these conditions. Summary: In acute kidney disease (AKI), ferroptosis has been confirmed in animal kidneys after being induced by various factors such as renal ischemia-reperfusion and cisplatin, and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) is linked with AKI. Ferroptosis is associated with renal fibrosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD), TGF-β1 being crucial in this regard. In diabetic nephropathy (DN), high SLC7A11 and low nuclear receptor coactivator 4 (NCOA4) expressions are linked to disease progression. For polycystic kidney disease (PKD), ferroptosis promotes the disease by regulating ferroptosis in kidney tissue. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and lupus nephritis (LN) also have links to ferroptosis, with mtDNA and iron accumulation causing RCC and oxidative stress causing LN. Key Messages: Ferroptosis is a newly identified form of programmed cell death that is associated with various diseases. It targets metabolic and signaling pathways and has been linked to kidney diseases such as AKI, CKD, PKD, DN, LN, and clear cell RCC. Understanding its role in these diseases could lead to breakthroughs in their pathogenesis, etiology, and treatment.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) can cause a range of kidney diseases. HCV is the primary cause of mixed cryoglobulinaemia, which leads to cryoglobulinaemic vasculitis and cryoglobulinaemic glomerulonephritis (GN). Patients with acute cryoglobulinaemic vasculitis often exhibit acute kidney disease due to HCV infection, which typically progresses to acute kidney injury (AKI). HCV also increases the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the likelihood of developing end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Currently, direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) can be used to treat kidney disease at different stages. This review focuses on key findings regarding HCV and kidney disease, discusses the impact of DAAs, and highlights the need for further research and treatment.

The stimulator of interferon genes (STING), an integral adaptor protein in the DNA-sensing pathway, plays a pivotal role in the innate immune response against infections. Additionally, it presents a valuable therapeutic target for infectious diseases and cancer. We observed that fangchinoline (Fan), a bis-benzylisoquinoline alkaloid (BBA), effectively impedes the replication of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV), influenza A virus (H1N1), and herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) in vitro. Fan treatment significantly reduced the viral load, attenuated tissue inflammation, and improved survival in a viral sepsis mouse model. Mechanistically, Fan activates the antiviral response in a STING-dependent manner, leading to increased expression of interferon (IFN) and interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) for potent antiviral effects in vivo and in vitro. Notably, Fan interacts with STING, preventing its degradation and thereby extending the activation of IFN-based antiviral responses. Collectively, our findings highlight the potential of Fan, which elicits antiviral immunity by suppressing STING degradation, as a promising candidate for antiviral therapy.

Abstract Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress induces the unfolded protein response (UPR), and prolonged ER stress leads to cell apoptosis. Despite increasing research in this area, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we discover that ER stress upregulates the UPR signaling pathway while downregulating E2F target gene expression and inhibiting the G2/M phase transition. Prolonged ER stress decreases the mRNA levels of E2F2, which specifically regulates the expression of F-Box Protein 5(FBXO5), an F-box protein that functions as an inhibitor of the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) ubiquitin ligase complex. Depletion of FBXO5 results in increased ER stress-induced apoptosis and decreased expression of proteins related to PERK/IRE1α/ATF6 signaling. Overexpression of FBXO5 wild-type (not its ΔF-box mutant) alleviates apoptosis and the expression of the C/EBP Homologous Protein (CHOP)/ATF. Mechanistically, we find that FBXO5 directly binds to and promotes the ubiquitin-dependent degradation of RNF183, which acts as a ubiquitin E3 ligase in regulating ER stress-induced apoptosis. Reversal of the apoptosis defects caused by FBXO5 deficiency in colorectal cancer cells can be achieved by knocking down RNF183 in FBXO5-deficient cells. Functionally, we observed significant upregulation of FBXO5 in colon cancer tissues, and its silencing suppresses tumor occurrence in vivo. Therefore, our study highlights the critical role of the FBXO5/RNF183 axis in ER stress regulation and identifies a potential therapeutic target for colon cancer treatment.

Introduction: Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is characterized by excessive proliferation of alveolar epithelial cells and fibroblasts, abnormal deposition of fibrous connective tissue, altered alveolar structure, impaired lung function, and increased airway resistance. Curcumin has been studied as an inhibitor of pulmonary fibrosis. Methods: This study investigated curcumin's inhibitory effect and mechanism on bleomycin (BLM) -induced pulmonary fibrosis in mice. Curcumin was administered to the mice to assess its therapeutic potential. The mice were weighed every two days, and the respiratory function of the mice was measured on day 7, 14, and 21. After 21 days, the mice's lung tissue was examined for hydroxyproline (HYP), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels, as well as relevant protein expression. Results: The administration of curcumin significantly alleviated respiratory dysfunction and improved the quality of life of mice with pulmonary fibrosis. It led to an increase in the expression of oxidative stress-related proteins Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and Heme Oxygenase-1 (HO-1), while reducing apoptosis-related factors. Pathological examination revealed a notable reduction in lung tissue fibrosis. Conclusions: Curcumin demonstrated promising therapeutic effects in mice with BLM-induced pulmonary fibrosis. The activation of the Akt pathway, upregulating the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1, contributed to curcumin's antioxidant effects and its potential for treating pulmonary fibrosis in mice.

Background: California hare coltivirus (CHCV) was isolated in California in 1976 from a hare. Despite its long history, it remained unclear whether CHCV was exclusively distributed in California with limited host ranges. Main body: By next-generation sequencing (NGS), we obtained a complete sequence of CHCV from Ixodes persulcatus collected in 2019 in northeast China. An expanded epidemiological investigation was subsequently performed on ticks belonging to four species (Ix. persulcatus, Haemaphysalis concinna, Devmacentor silvarum, Haemaphysalis longicornis) collected in northeastern China by applying CHCV-specific RT-PCR and sequencing. CHCV RNA-positive results were found in 1.56% of the tick samples. Positive ticks were obtained in three of four sampled locations, with the highest rate observed in Inner Mongolia (2.69%), followed by Heilongjiang (1.94%) and Jilin provinces (0.55%). All positive results were derived from Ix. persulcatus ticks (2.33%), while no positive detection was found in the other tick species, even at the same location. Sequence analysis revealed that the current CHCV showed a high genetic identity (>80% amino acid identity) with the previously reported CHCV in all segments except segment seven (64.59% amino acid identity). Phylogenetic analysis based on RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) amino acid sequences demonstrated that both the current and previously reported CHCV strains were grouped phylogenetically into the genus Coltivirus. Both CHCV strains formed a distinct clade, clustering with three human pathogenic coltiviruses (Colorado tick fever virus, Salmon River virus, and Eyach virus), and were distant from the other coltiviruses. Conclusions: We report the identification and characterization of CHCV for the first time in Ix. persulcatus ticks, expanding the currently known geographic scope, host, and genetic heterogeneity in CHCV.

Leucine-rich repeat extensin (LRX) is involved in the regulation of crucial cellular processes, such as cell wall growth and development, as well as signaling. However, the presence of the LRX gene family in Brassica rapa (B. rapa) has not been previously reported. This study identified 17 BrLRXs within the Brassica rapa genome by bioinformatic analysis, and these genes were distributed on seven chromosomes. Phylogenetic and covariance analyses indicate that BrLRXs can be categorized into two distinct branches: the trophic branch and the reproductive branch, with a close relationship observed between BrLRXs and AtLRXs. According to cis-acting element analysis, this gene family is rich in hormone-responsive and stress-responsive elements such as drought-inducibility, abscisic acid, methyl jasmonate, and gibberellic acid responsive elements, suggesting a potential role in abiotic stress response. Transcriptomic, proteomic, and RT-qPCR analyses demonstrated significant up-regulation of BrLRX2 and BrLRX6 under salt stress, while BrLRX3, BrLRX6, and BrLRX8 were significantly down-regulated under osmotic stress. Our analysis of the protein tertiary structure predicts a strong association between LRX proteins and RALF. Protein–protein interaction prediction revealed that LRX interacts with the RALF protein and the receptor FER, which have been previously reported to jointly regulate plant stress responses. We propose that BrLRX6 and BrLRX8 are implicated in osmotic stress, while BrLRX2 and BrLRX6 are involved in the modulation of salt stress.

Platycodon grandiflorus set ornamental, edible, and medicinal plant with broad prospects for further application development. However, there are no reports on the YABBY transcription factor in P. grandiflorus. Identification and analysis of the YABBY gene family of P. grandiflorus using bioinformatics means. Six YABBY genes were identified and divided into five subgroups. Transcriptome data and qRT-PCR were used to analyze the expression patterns of YABBY. YABBY genes exhibited organ-specific patterns in expression in P grandiflorus. Upon salt stress and drought induction, P. grandiflorus presented different morphological and physiological changes with some dynamic changes. Under salt treatment, the YABBY gene family was down-regulated; PgYABBY5 was up-regulated in leaves at 24 h. In drought treatment, PgYABBY1, PgYABBY2, and PgYABBY3 were down-regulated to varying degrees, but PgYABBY3 was significantly up-regulated in the roots. PgYABBY5 was up-regulated gradually after being down-regulated. PgYABBY5 was significantly up-regulated in stem and leaf at 48 h. PgYABBY6 was down-regulated at first and then significantly up-regulated. The dynamic changes of salt stress and drought stress can be regarded as the responses of plants to resist damage. During the whole process of salt and drought stress treatment, the protein content of each tissue part of P grandiflorus changed continuously. At the same time, we found that the promoter region of the PgYABBY gene contains stress-resistant elements, and the regulatory role of YABBY transcription factor in the anti-stress mechanism of P grandiflorus remains to be studied. PgYABBY1, PgYABBY2, and PgYABBY5 may be involved in the regulation of saponins in P. grandiflorus. PgYABBY5 may be involved in the drought resistance mechanism in P. grandiflorus stems and leaves. This study may provide a theoretical basis for studying the regulation of terpenoids by the YABBY transcription factor and its resistance to abiotic stress.

Background: Astragali Radix is regarded as an important traditional medicinal plant and has been widely used as a Qi-Invigoratin medicine for more than 2000 years. However, the mechanism of its medicinal and nutritional components in different accessions is unexplored. Moreover, the lack of SSR markers for Astragali Radix has stalled genetic breeding and variety identification. To develop EST-SSRs, transcriptome sequencing was performed based on the Illumina platform. Results: Approximately 99.6 million raw data points were collected, and 296,618 unigenes with an average length of 1,459 bp were obtained. A total of 71,207 SSR loci within 56,097 SSR-containing unigenes were identified. Of these SSR-containing unigenes, 26,188 (46.7%), 16,736 (29.8%), and 8,858 (15.8%) were related to items in the GO database, KEGG database, and COG database, respectively. The motifs A/T, AG/CT, AT/AT, and AAT/ATT were the most common types, accounting for 39.78%, 19.14%, 10.12%, and 4.60%, respectively, and the average length of the EST-SSRs was 17.16 bp. We acquired 8 functional markers linked to key genes correlated with the biosynthesis of flavonoids. The genetic similarity among the 60 AR varietal resources ranged from 0.2692 to 0.8077, with an average of 0.5742. The dendrogram results indicated that the 60 AR samples tested had high levels of genetic similarity. Conclusions: The 71,207 EST-SSR loci identified here offer valuable source of DNA markers for the genetic diversity identification of 60 Astragali Radix varieties. These results will facilitate genetic map construction, functional gene identification, variety identification, molecular marker-assisted breeding, and genetic diversity analysis in Astragali Radix.How to cite: Jiang M, Yan S, Ren W, et al. Betula pendula purple rain is a variety of Betula pendula that is native to Europe and has important ornamental and economic value. In this study, we sequenced the complete chloroplast genome of B. pendula purple rain. This genome had a typical quadripartite structure with 160,552 bases, including a large single copy (LSC) region of 89,433 bases, a small single copy (SCC) region of 19,007 bases and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 26,056 bases. The GC content of the chloroplast genome was 36% and contained 124 genes, including 79 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNA genes and 37 tRNA genes. The maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis of reported chloroplast genomes showed that B. pendula purple rain was most closely related to Betula occidentalis and Betula platyphylla.

CCT MOTIF FAMILY (CMF) genes belong to the CCT gene family and have been shown to play a role in diverse processes, such as flowering time and yield regulation, as well as responses to abiotic stresses. CMF genes have not yet been identified in Brassica rapa. A total of 25 BrCMF genes were identified in this study, and these genes were distributed across eight chromosomes. Collinearity analysis revealed that B. rapa and Arabidopsis thaliana share many homologous genes, suggesting that these genes have similar functions. According to sequencing analysis of promoters, several elements are involved in regulating the expression of genes that mediate responses to abiotic stresses. Analysis of the tissue-specific expression of BrCMF14 revealed that it is highly expressed in several organs. The expression of BrCMF22 was significantly downregulated under salt stress, while the expression of BrCMF5, BrCMF7, and BrCMF21 was also significantly reduced under cold stress. The expression of BrCMF14 and BrCMF5 was significantly increased under drought stress, and the expression of BrCMF7 was upregulated. Furthermore, protein–protein interaction network analysis revealed that A. thaliana homologs of BrCMF interacted with genes involved in the abiotic stress response. In conclusion, BrCMF5, BrCMF7, BrCMF14, BrCMF21, and BrCMF22 appear to play a role in responses to abiotic stresses. The results of this study will aid future investigations of CCT genes in B. rapa.

Guanine nucleotide-exchange factors (GEFs) genes play key roles in plant root and pollen tube growth, phytohormone responses, and abiotic stress responses. RopGEF genes in Brassica rapa have not yet been explored. Here, GEF genes were found to be distributed across eight chromosomes in B. rapa and were classified into three subfamilies. Promoter sequence analysis of BrRopGEFs revealed the presence of cis-elements characteristic of BrRopGEF promoters, and these cis-elements play a role in regulating abiotic stress tolerance and stress-related hormone responses. Organ-specific expression profiling demonstrated that BrRopGEFs were ubiquitously expressed in all organs, especially the roots, suggesting that they play a role in diverse biological processes. Gene expression analysis revealed that the expression of BrRopGEF13 was significantly up-regulated under osmotic stress and salt stress. RT-qPCR analysis revealed that the expression of BrRopGEF13 was significantly down-regulated under various types of abiotic stress. Protein–protein interaction (PPI) network analysis revealed interactions between RopGEF11, the homolog of BrRopGEF9, and the VPS34 protein in Arabidopsis thaliana, as well as interactions between AtRopGEF1, the homolog of BrRopGEF13 in Arabidopsis, and the ABI1, HAB1, PP2CA, and CPK4 proteins. VPS34, ABI1, HAB1, PP2CA, and CPK4 have previously been shown to confer resistance to unfavorable environments. Overall, our findings suggest that BrRopGEF9 and BrRopGEF13 play significant roles in regulating abiotic stress tolerance. These findings will aid future studies aimed at clarifying the functional characteristics of BrRopGEFs.

Chemical modifications are a specific and efficient way to regulate the function of biological macromolecules. Among them, RNA molecules exhibit a variety of modifications that play important regulatory roles in various biological processes. More than 170 modifications have been identified in RNA molecules, among which the most common internal modifications include N6-methyladenine (m6A), n1-methyladenosine (m1A), 5-methylcytosine (m5C), and 7-methylguanine nucleotide (m7G). The most widely affected RNA modification is m6A, whose writers, readers, and erasers all have regulatory effects on RNA localization, splicing, translation, and degradation. These functions, in turn, affect RNA functionality and disease development. RNA modifications, especially m6A, play a unique role in renal cell carcinoma disease. In this manuscript, we will focus on the biological roles of m6A in renal diseases such as acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, lupus nephritis, diabetic kidney disease, and renal cancer.

Traditional agricultural practices of hand-picking ripe tomatoes are labor-intensive and inefficient for large-scale harvesting. To address this, we propose an innovative approach using the YOLOv7 algorithm for ripe tomato detection, enabling robotic arms to perform the picking. However, the occlusion of tomatoes in the field often leads to unclear target features, causing false or missed detections. So it is worth studying and this paper proposes a tomato detection method based on improved YOLOv7. The novelty is shown below. First, a new structure called ReplkDext is redesigned to increase the receptive field. ReplkDext is introduced before the last layer of CBS in the backbone. Secondly, to overcome the problem of low FLOPS caused by frequent access to memory in traditional neural networks, the head structure of YOLOv7 is redesigned. By using FasterNet to optimize the structure between Concat and CBS in the head, FasterNet makes the model balance between running speed and detection accuracy. Finally, to improve the ability of convolution, ODConv is added after the last ELANN-2 structure in the Head layer. ODConv improves the feature extraction ability of small targets and obtains more feature information about ripe tomatoes. Experiments show that compared with YOLOv7, Map@.5 of Tomato-YOLOv7 has increased by 1.3%. The model is overall better than other models. The overall contribution of the Tomato-YOLO model is to provide important insights into agricultural product detection and provide a theoretical basis for automated tomato harvesting in orchards.

Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are the number one killer threatening people's life and health, among which cardiovascular thrombotic events are the most common. As the cause of particularly serious cardiovascular events, thrombosis can trigger fatal crises such as acute coronary syndrome (myocardial infarction and unstable angina), cerebral infarction and so on. Circulating monocytes are an important part of innate immunity. Their main physiological functions are phagocytosis, removal of injured and senescent cells and their debris, and development into macrophages and dendritic cells. At the same time, they also participate in the pathophysiological processes of pro-coagulation and anticoagulation. According to recent studies, monocytes have been found to play a significant role in thrombosis and thrombotic diseases of the immune system. In this manuscript, we review the relationship between monocyte subsets and cardiovascular thrombotic events and analyze the role of monocytes in arterial thrombosis and their involvement in intravenous thrombolysis. Finally, we summarize the mechanism and therapeutic regimen of monocyte and thrombosis in hypertension, antiphospholipid syndrome, atherosclerosis, rheumatic heart disease, lower extremity deep venous thrombosis, and diabetic nephropathy.

The present study attempted to explore the effects of sleep deprivation on the visual search patterns and hazard response times of taxi drivers when they encountered different types of hazards. A two (driver groups: sleep deprivation or control) × two (hazard types: covert hazard or overt hazard) mixed experimental design was employed. A total of 60 drivers were recruited, half of whom were in the sleep-deprived group and half of whom were in the control group. A validated video-based hazard perception test that either contained covert hazards (12 video clips) or overt hazards (12 video clips) filmed from the drivers’ perspective was presented to participants. Participants were instructed to click the left mouse button quickly once they detected a potentially dangerous situation that could lead to an accident. Participants’ response time and eye movements relative to the hazards were recorded. The sleep-deprived group had a significantly longer response time and took a longer time to first fixate on covert hazards than the control group, while they had a shorter response time to overt hazards than the control group. The first fixation duration of sleep-deprived drivers was longer than that of the control group for overt hazards, while the duration of the first fixation of the two driver groups was similar for covert hazards. Sleep deprivation affects the visual search patterns and response times to hazards, and the adverse effects of sleep deprivation were worse in relation to covert hazards. The findings have some implications for classifying and evaluating high-risk taxi drivers whose hazard perception ability might be affected by insufficient sleep.

The effects of video game experience on cognitive functioning have been extensively studied; however, differences in inhibitory control between different types of video game players at high and low perceptual loads have yet to be explored. This study aimed to examine the inhibitory control of two types of video game players using distracting stimuli with different perceptual loads. Therefore, 35 action video game (ACT) players and 35 strategy video game (STG) players were recruited via a video game questionnaire and were studied using flanker tasks with different perceptual loads. The results showed that ACT players could attend to the distribution of distracting stimuli and inhibit them better than STG players could. Furthermore, players with ACT game experience obtained better task performance when the perceptual load was high. The current findings highlight the relevance of inhibitory control in high perceptual load conditions to the game genre and discuss the reasons for this phenomenon.

Physical exercise has been widely identified as a supplementary therapy for Parkinson's disease (PD). Evaluating changes in motor function over long-term periods of exercise and comparing efficacy of various exercise types will enable a better understanding of the effects of exercise on PD. In the current study, a total of 109 studies that covered 14 types of exercise were included in the analyses, enrolling 4,631 PD patients. The results of meta-regression revealed that chronic exercise delays the progression of PD motor symptoms, mobility, and balance decline deterioration, whereas for the non-exercise PD groups, motor function progressively decline. Results from network meta-analyses suggest that dancing is the optimal exercise for general motor symptoms of PD. Furthermore, Nordic walking is the most efficient exercise to mobility and balance performance. The results from network meta-analyses also suggest that Qigong may have specific benefit in improving hand function. The findings of the current study provide further evidence that chronic exercise preserves the progression of motor function decline in PD and suggest that dancing, yoga, multimodal training, Nordic walking, aquatic training, exercise gaming, and Qigong are effective PD exercises.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?RecordID=276264, identifier: CRD42021276264.

Abstract Many circRNAs are involved in the carcinogenesis of breast cancer (BCa) through the transcription of microRNAs (miRNAs) and mRNAs. This study investigated circRBM33 regulation of the miR-542-3p/hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) axis in BCa. BCa clinical tissue samples were collected to test differential expressions of circRBM33, miR-542-3p, and HIF-1α. MCF-7 cells were subjected to normoxia or hypoxia and transfected with plasmids that regulated CircRBM33, miR-542-3p, and HIF-1α expression levels. Glycolysis was evaluated by measuring glucose consumption, lactic acid production, and protein expression of hexokinase 2, glucose transporter type 1 and lactic dehydrogenase A. Cell proliferation and apoptosis were also assessed, and the interactions between genes were explored. CircRBM33 and HIF-1α were upregulated, while miR-542-3p was downregulated in BCa tissue samples and cell lines. Hypoxia induced circRBM33 expression in BCa cells, which negatively regulated miR-542-3p expression. CircRBM33 knockdown or miR-542-3p rescue reduced glycolysis and proliferation and promoted apoptosis of BCa cells. MiR-542-3p inhibition rescued circRBM33 knockdown-mediated glycolysis, proliferation and apoptosis of BCa cells. MiR-542-3p targeted HIF-1α, and the overexpression of HIF-1α reversed the effect of miR-542-3p upregulation on glycolysis, proliferation, and apoptosis of BCa cells. Collectively, downregulating circRBM33 suppresses miR-542-3p-targeted HIF-1α expression, resulting in the inhibition of glycolysis and proliferation and the promotion of BCa cells’ apoptosis.

Lake wetlands play a crucial role in mitigating climate change. Human activities and climate change impact the carbon sequestration capacity of lake wetlands. However, this process is intricate. Clarifying the decisive factors that affect carbon sequestration is crucial for preserving, utilizing, and enhancing the carbon sequestration capacity of plateau lake wetlands. Here we analyzed the regulatory role of land use under policy guidance on the carbon sequestration capacity of the plateau lake wetland of Caohai (CHLW), SW China. The results show that: (1) The cumulative carbon sequestration varied significantly from 1990 to 2020, with the highest carbon sequestration of 15.80 × 105 t C in 1995 and the lowest of 3.18 × 105 t C in 2020, mainly originating from endogenous carbon sequestration within the plateau lake wetlands. (2) As of 2020, the carbon stock of CHLW was approximately 2.54 × 108 t C. (3) The carbon sequestration in CHLW experienced a dynamic change process of decrease-increase-decrease over 30 years, mainly influenced by land use changes under policy regulation, with human and natural factors accounting for 91% and 9%, respectively. (4) Under three simulated scenarios (Q1, Q2, and Q3), the ecological priority scenario exhibited positive regulation on the carbon sequestration of CHLW and the entire protected area in 2030 and 2060, with the highest increase in carbon sequestration. This scenario is consistent with the current conservation policy, indicating that the current protection policy for CHLW is scientifically reasonable. This research demonstrates how land use and climate changes impact carbon storage in wetlands, with consideration of policy guidance. It provides references for utilizing and conserving lake wetlands worldwide, ultimately achieving the dual goals of wetland conservation and carbon neutrality.

BackgroundYang-ge dancing is a culturally specific exercise in which people are required to perform motor skills in coordination with rhythmic music. As an integrated exercise with both physical (decelerating the progression of aged-related motor function degeneration) and mental benefits, it has gained great popularity in China, especially among middle-aged and older adults. It remains largely unknown whether Yang-ge dancing (YG) can effectively improve main symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD), while conventional exercise rehabilitation program has been recommended in the hospital setting. To this end, this study aimed to investigate the comparative effects of exercise therapy on motor function of PD patients.Materials and methodsA sample of 51 PD patients were randomly assigned to Yang-ge dancing, conventional exercise, or conventional exercise with music. Participants in each group performed 60 min per session, five sessions per week of interventions for 4 weeks. All the participants were assessed using the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale—motor examination, Berg balance test, timed up and go test, and Purdue pegboard test. Motor performances were examined before and after intervention.ResultsAll the three groups were benefited from exercise. Compared to conventional exercise, the Yang-ge dancing and conventional exercise with music had additional positive effects in mobility with reference to baseline.In addition, compared to the two conventional exercise groups (either with/without music), the Yang-ge dancing further enhanced manual dexterity.ConclusionExercise with rhythmic auditory stimulation optimized mobility in PD, while YG dance specifically contributed to improvement in manual dexterity.Clinical trial registeration[https://clinicaltrials.gov/], identifier [ChiCTR2200061252].

Biodiesel is considered a potential substitute for fossil diesel because of its unique environmentally friendly and renewable advantages. The efficient and durable heterogeneous catalysts are vital to greenly and efficiently drive the biodiesel production process. The ionic liquid-functionalized materials, possessing the characteristics of both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, are one of the promising substitutions for conventional homogeneous acid/base catalysts for producing biodiesel. This mini-review focuses on recent advances in supported acid/base ionic liquids to synthesize ionic liquid-functionalized materials for producing biodiesel. The methods of immobilizing ionic liquids on supports were summarized. The merits and demerits of various supports were discussed. The catalytic activities of the ionic liquid-functionalized materials for biodiesel production were reviewed. Finally, we proposed the challenges and future development direction in this area.

Salix floderusii is a rare alpine tree species in the Salix genus. Unfortunately, no extensive germplasm identification, molecular phylogeny, and chloroplast genomics of this plant have been conducted. We sequenced the chloroplast (cp) genome of S. floderusii for the first time using second-generation sequencing technology. The cp genome was 155,540 bp long, including a large single-copy region (LSC, 84,401 bp), a small single-copy region (SSC, 16,221 bp), and inverted repeat regions (IR, 54,918 bp). A total of 131 genes were identified, including 86 protein genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The S. floderusii cp genome contains 1 complement repeat, 24 forward repeats, 17 palindromic repeats, and 7 reverse repeats. Analysis of the IR borders showed that the IRa and IRb regions of S. floderusii and Salix caprea were shorter than those of Salix cinerea, which may affect plastome evolution. Furthermore, four highly variable regions were found, including the rpl22 coding region, psbM/trnD-GUC non-coding region, petA/psbJ non-coding region, and ycf1 coding region. These high variable regions can be used as candidate molecular markers and as a reference for identifying future Salix species. In addition, phylogenetic analysis indicated that the cp genome of S. floderusii is sister to Salix cupularis and belongs to the Subgenus Vetrix. Genes (Sf-trnI, Sf-PpsbA, aadA, Sf-TpsbA, Sf-trnA) obtained via cloning were inserted into the pBluescript II SK (+) to yield the cp expression vectors, which harbored the selectable marker gene aadA. The results of a spectinomycin resistance test indicated that the cp expression vector had been successfully constructed. Moreover, the aadA gene was efficiently expressed under the regulation of predicted regulatory elements. The present study provides a solid foundation for establishing subsequent S. floderusii cp transformation systems and developing strategies for the genetic improvement of S. floderusii.

Light quality consists of a spectrum of different bands, which not only affects plant, development, and primary metabolism but also affects the secondary metabolism of plants. It is an important factor affecting the content of active components of medicinal plants. The A. paniculata seedlings planted in the laboratory, as materials, were tested with red light, far red light, blue light, and ultraviolet light separately. The study assays the content of six main chemical components separately by LC-MS, observes the changes in the content, and analyzes the relationship between the light quality and the active ingredient of A. paniculata. Using the ointment yield and pH value, the fingerprint analysis method of A. paniculata standard decoction was established, and we discussed the selection of index components of A. paniculata standard decoction. It was suggested to select andrographolide as the index component. It will provide a theoretical basis for the large area cultivation of A. paniculata and optimize the quality of medicinal materials to ensure the quality of standard decoction.

Acer ukurunduense refers to a deciduous tree distributed in Northeast Asia and is a widely used landscaping tree species. Although several studies have been conducted on the species’ ecological and economic significance, limited information is available on its phylo-genomics. Our study newly constitutes the complete chloroplast genome of A. ukurunduense into a 156,645-bp circular DNA, which displayed a typical quadripartite structure. In addition, 133 genes were identified, containing 88 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. In total, 107 simple sequence repeats and 49 repetitive sequences were observed. Thirty-two codons indicated that biased usages were estimated across 20 protein-coding genes (CDS) in A. ukurunduense. Four hotspot regions (trnK-UUU/rps16, ndhF/rpl32, rpl32/trnL-UAG, and ycf1) were detected among the five analyzed Acer species. Those hotspot regions may be useful molecular markers and contribute to future population genetics studies. The phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that A. ukurunduense is most closely associated with the species of Sect. Palmata. A. ukurunduense and A. pubipetiolatum var. pingpienense diverged in 22.11 Mya. We selected one of the hypervariable regions (trnK-UUU/rps16) to develop a new molecular marker and designed primers and confirmed that the molecular markers could accurately discriminate five Acer species through Sanger sequencing. By sequencing the cp genome of A. ukurunduense and comparing it with the relative species of Acer, we can effectively address the phylogenetic problems of Acer at the species level and provide insights into future research on population genetics and genetic diversity.

The problem of coordinating a two-echelon green product supply chain with environmentally conscious consumers under demand uncertainty is studied in this paper. In the green product supply chain, a manufacturer produces green product through developing green technology and a retailer promotes the green product through green marketing. The demand of the green product is uncertain with the mean and the variance as the only known information. After analyzing the utility that a consumer gained from the green product, the problem is then formulated as a distribution-free-based Stackelberg game for a decentralized system under three contracts, i.e., wholesale price-only (WPO), revenue and green marketing cost-sharing (RGMS), and two-part tariff (TPTF) contracts. The analytical results are also proposed to show the effects of the system parameters on supply chain optimal decisions. By comparing with the centralized system, the coordination level for each contract is investigated. Numerical examples and sensitivity analysis with respect to several system parameters are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the contracts under demand uncertainty. The results demonstrate that both RGMS and TPTF contracts are superior to WPO contract. Especially, TPTF contract can always coordinate the supply chain, while RGMS contract can improve the supply chain coordination level only if the revenue and cost sharing coefficients satisfy certain conditions.

The high-performance defect-rich MoS2 dominated by sulfur vacancies as well as Mo-rich environments have been extensively studied in many fields, such as nitrogen reduction reactions, hydrogen evolution reactions, as well as sensing devices for NH3, which are attributed to the under-coordinated Mo atoms playing a significant role as catalytic sites in the defect area. In this study, the Mo cluster-MoS2 composite was creatively synthesized through a one-step sulfurization process via H2/H2S gas flow. The Mo6 cluster iodides (MIs) coated on the fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass substrate via the electrophoretic deposition method (i.e., MI@FTO) were used as a precursor to form a thin-film nanocomposite. Investigations into the structure, reaction mechanism, and NH3 gas sensing performance were carried out in detail. The results indicated that during the gas flowing, the decomposed Mo6 cluster iodides played the role of template and precursor, forming complicated Mo cluster compounds and eventually producing MoS2. These Mo cluster-MoS2 thin-film nanocomposites were fabricated and applied as gas sensors for the first time. It turns out that after the sulfurization process, the response of MI@FTO for NH3 gas increased three times while showing conversion from p-type to n-type semiconductor, which enhances their possibilities for future device applications.

The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to evaluate the efficacy of a 10-week neuromuscular training (NMT) program on the postural control of elite youth competitive ballroom dancers. Forty-two dancers (21 couples) were randomly assigned to either the NMT group (n = 22) or the control group (CG; n = 20). Participants in NMT underwent a three-sessions-per-week NMT program for 10 weeks. Testing at baseline and after the 10 weeks intervention included the Y-balance test (YBT) and Modified-Balance Error Scoring System (M-BESS). Results of YBT indicated that NMT participants demonstrated increased reach in the posterolateral and posteromedial directions for the right and left lower limb, whereas no significant change was found in the anterior direction for both limbs. Results of Modified-Balance Error Scoring System (M-BESS) showed that NMT participants displayed significantly decreased errors of the double-leg floor (p = 0.026), single-leg foam (p = 0.010), double-leg foam (p = 0.003), tandem floor (p = 0.031), and tandem foam (p = 0.038), while no significant change was found in single-leg floor performance (p = 0.476). CG participants did not exhibit any significant change during the 10-week period. In summary, the study affirmed that the 10-week NMT program enhanced the postural control performance of youth ballroom dancers and showed effects on ballroom dance-specific performance and lower-limb injury prevention. The results suggest that NMT may be a valuable addition to ballroom dance training regimens.

Sanicula rubriflora refers to a kind of edible wild herbs, which possesses reputed medicinal value. Chloroplasts (cp) is essential organelle in plant cells and has a genome that can be inherited autonomously. The complete chloroplast genome of S. rubriflora was assemble and annotated in the present study. It was a circular molecular genome with a size of 155,700 bp in length, which has a typical quadripartite structure. For instance, a large single-copy (LSC) of 85,979 bp and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 26,333 bp were disconnected by a small single-copy (SSC) of 17,053bp. A total of 130 genes have been annotated, including 86 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 36 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs) and 8 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs). The total GC content of the complete chloroplast genome reached 37.9%. A maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis with the reported chloroplast genomes revealed that S. rubriflora is most closely related to Saniculachinensis in the phylogenetic relationships.

Purpose: To explore the effects of physical activity (PA) intervention on executive function (EF) and motor skills (MS) among children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and/or autism spectrum disorder (ASD).Methods: Relevant studies were sourced from PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CNKI and Wanfang Data. Only randomized controlled trials (RCT) were included based upon the following criteria: (1) participants were children and clinically diagnosed with ADHD/ASD, (2) intervention strategies were identified as chronic physical activity, and (3) EF (e.g., cognitive flexibility) and/or MS (e.g., gross motor skills) were measured at baseline and post-intervention and compared with an eligible control group.Results: Eleven studies involving 346 participants were finally identified. PA elicited significant improvements in EF and MS in children with ADHD/ASD. Regarding changes in the EF of participants, PA showed a great improvement in overall EF [standardized mean difference (SMD): 0.90, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.49–1.30, p < 0.00001], inhibitory control (SMD: 1.30, 95% CI 0.58–2.02, p = 0.0004) and cognitive flexibility (SMD: 0.85, 95% CI 0.42–1.29, p = 0.0001), but no significant improvement in working memory (SMD: 0.28, 95% CI −0.15–0.71, p = 0.20). Significant improvements were also found with respect to gross motor skills (SMD: 0.80, 95% CI 0.30–1.30, p = 0.002), but no significant changes were found in fine motor skills (SMD: 0.30, 95% CI −0.91–1.52, p = 0.62).Conclusion: Chronic PA interventions may promote EF and MS in children with ADHD/ASD, especially in inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, and gross motor skills. However, PA interventions seemed to have insignificant effects on working memory and fine motor skills to children with ADHD/ASD.PROSPERO registration number: CRD42019118622

Abstract Background The insurance reimbursement rate of medical cost affects the quality and quantity of health services provided in China. The nature of this relationship, however, has not been reliably described in the field of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The objective of the current study was to examine the impact of low reimbursement rates of medical costs on diagnosis, treatment and outcomes among patients with NSCLC. Methods We examined care of 2643 NSCLC patients and we divided the study cohort into a high reimbursement rate group and a low reimbursement rate group. The impact of reimbursement rates of medical costs on quality of care of NSCLC patients were examined using logistic regression and generalized linear models. Results Compared with patients insured with high reimbursement rate, patients insured through lower reimbursement rate programs were less likely to benefit from early detection and treatment services. Delayed detection was more common in low reimbursement group and they were less likely to be recommended for adjuvant chemotherapy, or to receive adjuvant chemotherapy and postoperative radiation therapy and they had lower odds to receipt chemotherapy response assessment. However, low reimbursement rate group had lower rate of in-hospital mortality and metastases. Conclusions Low reimbursement rate mainly negatively influenced the diagnosis and treatment of NSCLC. Reducing the gap in reimbursement rate between the three health insurance schemes should be a focus of equalizing access to care and improving the level of medical compliance and finally improving quality of care of NSCLC.

Abstract Background Large gap exists between clinical practice and recommended care and large room exists for the improvement of care quality for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in China. Results of some studies have shown that assessment of care quality can help to make improvement and the development of quality indicators is deemed as the initial and most essential part. Yet there is no such an indicators system specifically suitable for Chinese health care system. The goal of the study is to set up a group of Chinese quality indicators for NSCLC care and make it the first step towards the improvement of NSCLC care quality in China. Methods We constructed a new indicator framework based on the characteristics of NSCLC care and the nature of Chinese health care system. Under the new framework, potential indicators were collected and a 3-round modified Delphi process was conducted by a national multi-disciplinary Expert Panel to develop a set of indicators until they reached the final consensus. Results A new indicator framework (structure, process, communication, management of symptoms or treatment toxicity and outcome) was developed. Seventy four indicators were extracted from guidelines and relevant literatures as potential indicators; 43 indicators plus 1 suggested indicator were remained after the discussion of Round 1; questionnaires of Round 2 were rated by Expert Panel and 19 indicators met the inclusion criteria and entered Round 3; 2 of the eliminated indicators in Round 2 were retrieved by the Expert Panel at the in-person meeting (Round 3). Therefore, 21 indicators got the final consensus of the Expert Panel. Conclusions Guided by the new indicator structure, a set of indicators suitable for Chinese healthcare system was developed and can be utilized to measure and improve the care quality of non-small cell lung cancer.

Compared to the traditional fullerene derivatives, non-fullerene acceptors show more tunable absorption bands as well as adjustable energy levels which are favorable for further PCE enhancement of organic solar cells. In order to enhance light-harvesting property of dithienonaphthalene (DTN)-based acceptors, we designed and synthesized two novel non-fullerene acceptors (DTNIF and DTNSF) based on a ladder-type DTN donor core flanked with two different acceptor units. In combination with a benchmark wide bandgap copolymer (PBDB-T), the best performance device based on DTNIF displayed a high PCE of 8.73% with a short-circuit current (Jsc) of 13.26 mA cm−2 and a large fill factor (FF) of 72.77%. With a reduced bandgap of DTNSF, the corresponding best performance device showed an increased Jsc of 14.49 mA cm−2 although only a moderate PCE of 7.15% was achieved. These findings offer a molecular design strategy to control the bandgap of DTN-based non-fullerene acceptors with improved light-harvesting.

Though evidence-based treatments have been recommended for breast cancer, underuse of the treatments was still observed. To certain extent, patients' access to care, which can be enhanced by increasing the coverage of health insurance, could account for the current underuse in recommended care. This study aimed to examine the association between different proportions of reimbursement and quality of recommended breast cancer care, as well as length of hospital stay. In this retrospective study, 3669 patients diagnosed with invasive breast cancer between 1 June, 2011 and 30 June, 2013 were recruited. Seven quality indicators from preoperative diagnosis procedures to adjuvant therapy and one composite indicator were selected as dependent variables. Logistic regression and generalized linear models were used to explore the association between quality of care and length of hospital stay with different reimbursement rates. Compared with UEBMI (urban employment basic medical insurance), which represented high level reimbursement rate, patients with lower rates of reimbursement were less likely to receive core biopsy, HER-2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor-2) testing, BCS (breast conserving surgery), SLNB (sentinel lymph nodes biopsy), adjuvant therapy and hormonal treatment. No significant difference in preoperative length of hospital stay was observed among the three insurance schemes, however URBMI (urban resident basic medical insurance) insured patients stayed longer for total length of hospital stay. Significant disparities in utilization of evidence-based breast cancer care among patients with different proportions of reimbursement were observed. Patients with lower rate of reimbursement were less likely to receive recommended care. Our findings could provide important support for further healthcare reform and quality improvement in breast cancer care.

BACKGROUND: Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) is a common pathogen that causes bacterial pneumonia. However, with increasing bacterial resistance, there is an urgent need to develop new drugs to treat S. pneumoniae infections. Nanodefensin with a 14-carbon saturated fatty acid (ND-C14) is a novel nanoantimicrobial peptide designed by modifying myristic acid at the C-terminus of human α-defensin 5 (HD5) via an amide bond. However, it is unclear whether ND-C14 is effective against lung infections caused by S. pneumoniae. METHODS: In vitro, three groups were established, including the control group, and the HD5 and ND-C14 treatment groups. A virtual colony-count assay was used to evaluate the antibacterial activity of HD5 and ND-C14 against S. pneumoniae. The morphological changes of S. pneumoniae treated with HD5 or ND-C14 were observed by scanning electron microscopy. In vivo, mice were divided into sham, vehicle, and ND-C14 treatment groups. Mice in the sham group were treated with 25 μL of phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). Mice in the vehicle and ND-C14 treatment groups were treated with intratracheal instillation of 25 μL of bacterial suspension with 2x108 CFU/mL (total bacterial count: 5x106 CFU), and then the mice were given 25 μL PBS or intratracheally injected with 25 μL of ND-C14 (including 20 μg or 50 μg), respectively. Survival rates were evaluated in the vehicle and ND-C14 treatment groups. Bacterial burden in the blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were counted. The lung histology of the mice was assessed. A propidium iodide uptake assay was used to clarify the destructive effect of ND-C14 against S. pneumoniae. RESULTS: Compared with HD5, ND-C14 had a better bactericidal effect against S. pneumoniae because of its stronger ability to destroy the membrane structure of S. pneumoniae in vitro. In vivo, ND-C14 significantly delayed the death time and improved the survival rate of mice infected with S. pneumoniae. ND-C14 reduced bacterial burden and lung tissue injury. Moreover, ND-C14 had a membrane permeation effect on S. pneumoniae, and its destructive ability increased with increasing ND-C14 concentration. End resource depletion causes a range of consequences, such as threats to food security, increasing poverty, and social unrest. Therefore, reasonable and effective land use has become a crucial issue of the nation and localities nationwide. Research results in Tan Binh commune, Dak Doa district, Gia Lai Province in Vietnam showed that long-term industrial and agricultural land occupies most of the commune's agroforestry land. The study also had shown that there are six common land use types (LUTs) in the commune. In particular, the LUT of pepper cultivation had the highest economic benefit, whereas the LUT of coffee brought the highest social benefit. However, the LUT of chayote was the highest in overall benefits with Ect of 0.93; thus, this LUT should be widely applied throughout Tan Binh commune. Based on the results of exploration carried out from 2003 to 2017, oil shales from different areas of the Permian Lucaogou Formation in the Junggar Basin in the northern Bogda Mountains, Northwest China were comparatively investigated, their resources were summarized and development potential was analyzed. The layer of oil shale in the central region of the study area is the thickest, with the greatest cumulative thickness of 198.75 m, while in the western and eastern regions the layer is relatively thin, 66.18 m and 130.00 m, respectively. The total organic carbon (TOC) content of oil shale is 5-35 wt%, whereas the average TOC of oil shale in the central and eastern regions is higher than that in the western region. Based on Hydrogen Index (HI)-Tmax and Pyrolytic Hydrocarbon (S2)-TOC diagrams, the organic matter type of oil shale in the central region is mainly I, and in the western and eastern regions mostly II1-II2 and I-II1, respectively. In the plane of the whole northern Bogda Mountains, the oil yield of oil shale greatly varies, and the quality of oil shale in the central region is the highest. Of all the studied samples, those with an oil yield > 5 wt% account for 70%. Oil shale resources in the study area total 55.241 billion tons (identified resources are 3.921 billion tons), while converted shale oil resources form 5.293 billion tons. Of the 55.241 billion tons, oil shale resources with an oil yield higher than 5 wt% account for 97.26%. Analysis shows that the Yaomoshan Mountain mining area has the greatest development potential, followed by the Lucaogou and Shanghuangshanjie-Panjiazikou mining areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective • To explore the effectiveness of quality control circle (QCC) management model in reducing the error rate of dispensing disposable items. Methods • Our hospital’s sterilization supply center implemented QCC management model from May 2021 to December 2021 to compare the error rate of disposable items dispensed before and after the implementation of the QCC activities. Results • The one-time item dispensing error rate was lower after the QCC activities, the order claim error rate, print order error rate, and inventory error rate were also reduced, and the required loading time and delivery time were shortened (P < .05). Conclusion • QCC activities can reduce the error rate of dispensing disposable items, save time, improve efficiency, and enhance clinical satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, a new biosensor using electrochemical magnetic loading of Tyrosinase (Tyr) immobilized on chitosan microspheres via in situ hybridization with Fe3O4 (Chitosan@Fe3O4) was developed. Fe3O4 was used to reduce the applied potential while chitosan microspheres helped in keeping the affinity with enzyme. The magnetic microspheres were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Energy dispersive spectroscopy and Fourier transform Infra-red spectroscopy. These microspheres were confirmed to possess high electron transport performance of -50 mV. Parameters affecting the biosensor response such as amount of modifying material, pH, applied potential and temperature were optimized. The biosensor selectively detected catechol in a linear range from 2.64 X 10-6 M to 8.4X10-5 M at a sensitivity of 14.72 μA/mM with a limit of detection of 0.79 μM and a Michaelis--Menten constant (Km app) of 14.3 μM. The proposed design possesses attributes like cost effectiveness, ease of recycling and high selectivity in bio-sensing and thus can be deemed as a promising approach for commercial level biosensor synthesis. The utilization of low bandgap copolymers has been considered as one of the most efficient ways to increase power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of fullerene-based polymer solar cells (PSCs). However, an increase in the short-circuit current (JSC) value is usually counteracted by a decrease in the open-circuit voltage (VOC), which limits a further PCE enhancement of fullerene-based PSCs. As a result, nonfullerene acceptors with wide-range tunable energy levels are used as alternatives to the traditional fullerene acceptors to overcome the negative trade-off between the JSC and VOC. Here, a novel nonfullerene acceptor is developed by using an angular-shaped dithienonaphthalene flanked by electron-withdrawing 3-ethylrhodanine units via benzothiadiazole bridges. The obtained nonfullerene acceptor exhibits a high-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level of -3.75 eV with enhanced absorption. In combination with a benchmark low bandgap copolymer (PTB7-Th), a high PCE of 9.51% with a large VOC of 1.08 V was achieved for the nonfullerene PSCs, demonstrating an extremely low energy loss of 0.50 eV, which is the lowest among all high-performance (PCE > 8%) polymer-based systems with similar optical bandgaps. The results demonstrate the bright future of our nonfullerene acceptor as an alternative to the fullerene derivatives for PSCs with large JSC and VOC values and improved device stability. Two novel small molecule acceptors (DTNIC6 and DTNIC8) based on a ladder-type dithienonaphthalene (DTN) building block with linear (hexyl) or branched (2-ethylhexyl) alkyl substituents are designed and synthesized. Both acceptors exhibit strong and broad absorption in the range from 500 to 720 nm as well as appropriate highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) levels. Replacing the linear hexyl chains with the branched 2-ethylhexyl chains has a large impact on the film morphology of photoactive layers. In the blend film based on DTNIC8 bearing the branched alkyl chains, morphology with well-defined phase separation was observed. This optimal phase morphology yields efficient exciton dissociation, reduced bimolecular recombination, and enhanced and balanced charge carrier mobilities. Benefited from these factors, organic solar cells (OSCs) based on PBDB-T:DTNIC8 deliver a highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.03% with a high fill factor (FF) of 72.84%. This unprecedented high FF of 72.84% is one of the highest FF values reported for nonfullerene OSCs.
