Two‐dimensional (2D) antiferromagnetic (AFM) semiconductors are promising components of opto‐spintronic devices due to terahertz operation frequencies and minimal interactions with stray fields. However, the lack of net magnetization significantly limits the number of experimental techniques available to study the relationship between magnetic order and semiconducting properties. Here, they demonstrate conditions under which photocurrent spectroscopy can be employed to study many‐body magnetic excitons in the 2D AFM semiconductor NiI2. The use of photocurrent spectroscopy enables the detection of optically dark magnetic excitons down to bilayer thickness, revealing a high degree of linear polarization that is coupled to the underlying helical AFM order of NiI2. In addition to probing the coupling between magnetic order and dark excitons, this work provides strong evidence for the multiferroicity of NiI2 down to bilayer thickness, thus demonstrating the utility of photocurrent spectroscopy for revealing subtle opto‐spintronic phenomena in the atomically thin limit. Superconducting niobium (Nb) thin films have recently attracted significant attention due to their utility for quantum information technologies. In the processing of Nb thin films, fluoride‐based chemical etchants are commonly used to remove surface oxides that are known to affect superconducting quantum devices adversely. However, these same etchants can also introduce hydrogen to form Nb hydrides, potentially negatively impacting microwave loss performance. Here, comprehensive materials characterization of Nb hydrides formed in Nb thin films as a function of fluoride chemical treatments is presented. In particular, secondary‐ion mass spectrometry, X‐ray scattering, and transmission electron microscopy reveal the spatial distribution and phase transformation of Nb hydrides. The rate of hydride formation is determined by the fluoride solution acidity and the etch rate of Nb2O5, which acts as a diffusion barrier for hydrogen into Nb. The resulting Nb hydrides are detrimental to Nb superconducting properties and lead to increased power‐independent microwave loss in coplanar waveguide resonators. However, Nb hydrides do not correlate with two‐level system loss or device aging mechanisms. Overall, this work provides insight into the formation of Nb hydrides and their role in microwave loss, thus guiding ongoing efforts to maximize coherence time in superconducting quantum devices. Aim: Pinaceae have been noted for their tendency towards reticulation as a result of interspecific hybridization. Here, we demonstrated the phylogeographic dynamics of the native Northeast Asian sub‐alpine conifer, Abies nephrolepis species complex (ANSC), evolving in circular overlaps along the Northeast Asian landform, which functions as a corridor with the sea, thus acting as a geographic barrier. Location: Northeast Asia: the Korean Peninsula, Japanese Archipelago, Russian Far East and northeastern China. Taxon: Abies nephrolepis species complex (Family Pinaceae, Genus Abies, Section Balsamea, Abies nephrolepis, A. koreana, A. veitchii and A. sachalinensis). Methods: A total of 728 individuals from 38 ANSC populations were analysed using multiplexed inter‐simple sequence repeat genotyping by sequencing to capture variations in biparental nuclear genomes. Eight mitochondrial regions and eight chloroplast regions of each individual were sequenced using the MiSeq platform and Sanger sequencing. Species distribution models were generated. Results: Bayesian clustering with 507 nuclear single nucleotide polymorphisms and the discrepancy between cytoplasmic and nuclear genome lineages implied contemporary and ancient connections between neighbouring species in the form of circular overlap. This genetic connectivity was supported by principal component analysis. Strong correlations between genetic distance and geographic distance were observed, suggesting that gene flow occurs through a continuous chain around the sea. We also found that gene flow direction and intensity changed over time, with support from palaeodistribution modelling. Conclusion: Past hybridization events were captured in cytoplasmic genomes, generating heterogeneity across maternal ancestries. This intensive phylogeographic study demonstrates speciation with incomplete reproductive isolation (continuous gene flow) among neighbouring species with an alteration of the direction and intensity of gene flow due to climate change. The divergence of ANSC due to repeated isolation and reconnection caused by heterogenous physiological environments and climate fluctuation provides a model to solve evolutionary scenarios for reticulate evolution in Pinaceae and other plants. The article deals with the study of the biological characteristics of L. gracilipes Mig var. glanduiosa Maxim as a new berry crop. Seeds were treated with ionizing radiation to obtain new forms of crop plants. The identified number of qualitative signs of variability in seedlings exposed to ionizing radiation allows us to preliminarily speak about the identified mutations in L. gracilipes. The resulting mutant forms of the species L. gracilipes with other biological indicators to varying degrees different from the original species make it possible in the future to isolate promising forms valuable from an economic point of view for domestic berry growing. The currently existing economic indicators of the species L. gracilipes in terms of frost resistance (limit -250С), fruit weight - 0.6 g, low productivity (up to 300 g from one bush), put forward specific tasks for the selection of a new rare crop, promising for its cultivation as a fastgrowing berry bush.

The potential of standard methods of radiation therapy is limited by the dose that can be safely delivered to the tumor, which could be too low for radical treatment. The dose efficiency can be increased by using radiosensitizers. In this study, we evaluated the sensitizing potential of biocompatible iron oxide nanoparticles coated with a dextran shell in A172 and Gl-Tr glioblastoma cells in vitro. The cells preincubated with nanoparticles for 24 h were exposed to ionizing radiation (X-ray, gamma, or proton) at doses of 0.5–6 Gy, and their viability was assessed by the Resazurin assay and by staining of the surviving cells with crystal violet. A statistically significant effect of radiosensitization by nanoparticles was observed in both cell lines when cells were exposed to 35 keV X-rays. A weak radiosensitizing effect was found only in the Gl-Tr line for the 1.2 MeV gamma irradiation and there was no radiosensitizing effect in both lines for the 200 MeV proton irradiation at the Bragg peak. A slight (ca. 10%) increase in the formation of additional reactive oxygen species after X-ray irradiation was found when nanoparticles were present. These results suggest that the nanoparticles absorbed by glioma cells can produce a significant radiosensitizing effect, probably due to the action of secondary electrons generated by the magnetite core, whereas the dextran shell of the nanoparticles used in these experiments appears to be rather stable under radiation exposure. Introduction: The 30–50% non-response rate to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) calls for improved patient selection and optimized pacing lead placement. The study aimed to develop a novel technique using patient-specific cardiac models and machine learning (ML) to predict an optimal left ventricular (LV) pacing site (ML-PS) that maximizes the likelihood of LV ejection fraction (LVEF) improvement in a given CRT candidate. To validate the approach, we evaluated whether the distance DPS between the clinical LV pacing site (ref-PS) and ML-PS is associated with improved response rate and magnitude. Materials and methods: We reviewed retrospective data for 57 CRT recipients. A positive response was defined as a more than 10% LVEF improvement. Personalized models of ventricular activation and ECG were created from MRI and CT images. The characteristics of ventricular activation during intrinsic rhythm and biventricular (BiV) pacing with ref-PS were derived from the models and used in combination with clinical data to train supervised ML classifiers. The best logistic regression model classified CRT responders with a high accuracy of 0.77 (ROC AUC = 0.84). The LR classifier, model simulations and Bayesian optimization with Gaussian process regression were combined to identify an optimal ML-PS that maximizes the ML-score of CRT response over the LV surface in each patient. Results: The optimal ML-PS improved the ML-score by 17 ± 14% over the ref-PS. Twenty percent of the non-responders were reclassified as positive at ML-PS. Selection of positive patients with a max ML-score >0.5 demonstrated an improved clinical response rate. The distance DPS was shorter in the responders. The max ML-score and DPS were found to be strong predictors of CRT response (ROC AUC = 0.85). In the group with max ML-score > 0.5 and DPS< 30 mm, the response rate was 83% compared to 14% in the rest of the cohort. LVEF improvement in this group was higher than in the other patients (16 ± 8% vs. 7 ± 8%). Conclusion: A new technique combining clinical data, personalized heart modelling and supervised ML demonstrates the potential for use in clinical practice to assist in optimizing patient selection and predicting optimal LV pacing lead position in HF candidates for CRT. This article discusses the phenomenon of motherhood through the prism of dyadic relations "mother-child" in an interdisciplinary context: biological, medical, psychological and social aspects are given. The analysis of factors affecting the occurrence of various kinds of problems in dyadic relations is carried out. The data of various studies in different countries, on various social and age groups of respondents are considered. The aspects affecting the dyad and perception of oneself as a mother that arise after childbirth, as well as factors that arise long before motherhood, are evaluated. The article describes the results of a study among unmarried girls regarding their readiness for motherhood, positioning themselves as expectant mothers. The empirical study involved 319 female full-time students at Southern Federal University, aged 18 to 22 years. According to the results of the study, it was determined that most of the girls are not ready to become mothers, not for reasons related to health, but because of a lack of necessary knowledge and skills. They lack information to complete a holistic view of the upbringing and education of the child.

The development of new methods increasing the biological effectiveness of proton therapy (PT) is of high interest in radiation oncology. The use of binary technologies, in which the damaging effect of proton radiation is further enhanced by the selective accumulation of the radiosensitizer in the target tissue, can significantly increase the effectiveness of radiation therapy. To increase the absorbed dose in a tumor target, proton boron capture therapy (PBCT) was proposed based on the reaction of proton capture on the 11B isotope with the formation of three α-particles. Biomineralization is a universal process that has implications in a variety of areas, from civil engineering to medicine. While crystallization of amorphous CaCO3 formed in vitro is known to precede the vaterite-calcite/aragonite pathway, this process could be significantly altered when induced by bacteria, particularly within the extracellular matrix (ECM) of microbial cells. We used a combination of SEM, SANS, SAXS, FTIR and XRD methods to investigate the structure of CaCO3 formed during biomineralization induced by planktonic Bacillus cereus. Formation of precipitates in the presence of CaCl2 and urea was observed both during bacterial growth and in the medium devoid of bacteria and ECM (cell-free system). The pathway for polymorphic transformations of CaCO3 from the amorphous phase to vaterite and further to calcite was confirmed for the bacterium-induced mineralization and did not depend on the concentration of Ca2+ and urea. The structure of CaCO3 sediments differed when formed in cell-free and bacterial systems and varied depending on time and the medium composition. The rate of precipitation was accelerated in the presence of DNA, which had little effect on the solid phase structure in the cell-free system, while strongly affecting the structure and polymorphic composition of the precipitates in bacterial culture. Two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted attention for quantum information science due to their ability to host single-photon emitters (SPEs). Although the properties of atomically thin materials are highly sensitive to surface modification, chemical functionalization remains unexplored in the design and control of 2D material SPEs. Here, we report a chemomechanical approach to modify SPEs in monolayer WSe2 through the synergistic combination of localized mechanical strain and noncovalent surface functionalization with aryl diazonium chemistry. Following the deposition of an aryl oligomer adlayer, the spectrally complex defect-related emission of strained monolayer WSe2 is simplified into spectrally isolated SPEs with high single-photon purity. Density functional theory calculations reveal energetic alignment between WSe2 defect states and adsorbed aryl oligomer energy levels, thus providing insight into the observed chemomechanically modified quantum emission. By revealing conditions under which chemical functionalization tunes SPEs, this work broadens the parameter space for controlling quantum emission in 2D materials. Additionally, many 2D magnetic materials are ambient-reactive and electrically insulating or highly resistive below their magnetic ordering temperatures, which imposes severe constraints on electronic device fabrication and characterization. Herein, these issues are overcome via a fabrication protocol that achieves electrically conductive devices from the ambient-reactive 2D antiferromagnetic semiconductor NiI2. The resulting gate-tunable transistors show band-like electronic transport below the antiferromagnetic and multiferroic transition temperatures of NiI2, revealing a Hall mobility of 15 cm2 V-1 s-1 at 1.7 K. Steady-state and time-resolved resonance energy transfer (FRET) techniques were used to determine the distance of the binding site for diTBA (bis-(1,3-diethylothiobarbituric acid)trimethine oxonol). The analysis indicates that diTBA binding site comes closer to the FM site by ~7 A in chloride buffer as compared to that in citrate because of the effects of anion binding.
