In the study of archaeological ceramics, it is important to have compositional data to identify their origin and source. The fabric also provides useful information on the production technology, especially with regard to the firing steps. The work presented here is connected to this field and focuses on the main parameters related to the terracotta artefacts preparation. Thus, one can consider the effects in terracotta characteristics of different raw materials and firing parameters, in particular for pottery of Caltagirone, which is one of most important centres of pottery production in Italy, active since the Neolithic. To this end, terracotta samples have been reproduced in a laboratory setting according to the ancient procedure of Caltagirone manufacture, starting from clay and degreaser extraction in local historical sites. The analysis was conducted using a portable X-Ray Fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometer for elemental characterization of sand degreaser and of clays during each step of the realization process and in different firing conditions. SEM-ED techniques were also employed to verify the method and results for some of the samples after firing process. Framing the technological context of manufacture production, known in the specific case, it is also possible to identify potential outcomes and limits in the study of potsherds using pXRF technology, in applying the methodology to historic artefacts.

The accurate identification of pigments is of principal relevance in the field of cultural heritage conservation and restoration practices. In this preliminary study, a first attempt to set up a procedure for accurate red pigment identification, based on the assessment of the correlations existing between visible reflectance spectrometry (vis-RS) and Raman data, is presented. The proposed approach involved the realization of a library consisting of data acquired on a set of 35 pure red historical pigments supplied by ©Kremer Pigmente. In particular, vis-RS data, collected through a Konica Minolta CM-2600d spectrophotometer, were registered, together with the position of the Extrema Points (E.P.s) encompassing both the maximum and minimum points of the first derivative of the % spectral reflectance factor (SRF%) curves. Portable Raman spectroscopy measurements were collected by a B&W Tek Inc. portable Raman spectrometer equipped with a 785 nm laser. For each tested pigment, the positions and relative intensities of the characteristic Raman peaks were considered. The library was then tested for the characterization of the red/reddish painted areas of the medieval wall painting located within The Norman Castle of Aci Castello (Catania, Italy), and was shown to be essential for the unambiguous identification of the pigment used. It is worth noting that this study represents the first novel attempt to establish a reliable and efficient methodology for pigment identification, offering promising prospects in reducing uncertainties and ambiguities arising from the application of a single stand-alone approach.

IntroductionSurgical-related injuries are frequent, in fact the reported percentage of musculoskeletal disorders in surgeons is between 47% and 87%. These conditions are caused by long periods of standing, incorrect postures, repeated movements, little rest between operations, the lack of integrated operator rooms, the correct number and arrangement of monitors and the use of non-ergonomic instruments. This survey aims to assess the Italian overview both highlighting how prevalent surgical-related injury is in our surgeons and whether there is an operating room ergonomics education program in Italian surgical specialty schools.MethodsAn anonymous questionnaire was designed through SurveyMonkey© web application. This survey was composed of 3 different sections concerning the general characteristics of the participants, their surgical background and any training performed, and any injuries or ailments related to the surgical activity. The survey was carried out in the period 1th of December 2022 and the 6th of February 2023.ResultsAt the close of our survey, 300 responses were collected. Among the participants, the two most represented specialties were Gynecology and Obstetrics (42.3%) and General Surgery (39.7%) and surgeons were mainly employed in the Northern regions of Italy (54.8%). Analyzing the participants’ background, 61.7% of the respondents had laparoscopic training during their training and only 53.1% had a pelvic trainer during their residency. In accordance with 98.7% of the respondents, during surgery we have the feeling of being in an uncomfortable position that causes discomfort or muscle pain, and regarding the frequency of these discomforts, the majority of our study population experiences these problems monthly (46.2%), while in 29.6% it is experienced weekly, 12.1% annually and finally 12.1% daily. The surgical approach that is most correlated with these disorders is laparoscopy (62.7%) while the one that causes the least discomfort is robotic surgery (1.4%). These discomforts cause 43.9% of our population to take a break or do short exercises to reduce pain during surgery, and the body areas most affected are the back (61.6%), neck (40.6%) and shoulders (37.8%).ConclusionDespite this, our survey allows us to highlight some now-known gaps present in the surgical training program of our schools and the lack of protection toward our surgeons during their long career.

According to the neo-functional developmental theory, newborns and infants exhibit complex psycho-bodily functioning. The Basic Experiences of the Self (BEsS) refer to how they fulfil their essential life needs by organising their psycho-bodily functions in a typical configuration. As part of our research study, we developed a prototype psychometric tool called the BEsS Assessment Form (BAF) to assess the BEsS in infants aged zero to three years. We collected video recordings of their spontaneous behaviour and used the BAF to evaluate function polarity. In the BAF, thirty pairs of words represent functions in their dyadic polarity. To estimate the level of function polarity, we used the Osgood semantic differential scale, which ranges from seven to one. The study’s results confirm that functions can be assessed by grading along the opposite polarity spectrum. Moreover, in accordance with the theory, the functions can be grouped into four domains: the emotional, postural motor, physiological, and cognitive-symbolic planes. Our findings suggest that the characteristics of BEsS are significantly influenced by the activation of the physiological and postural motor functions, which are related to the early regulation of the autonomic nervous system and can be used to evaluate infant arousal.

In light of challenges like climate change, pollution, and depletion of fossil fuel reserves, governments and businesses prioritize renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. Renewable energy forecasting models play a crucial role for energy market operators and prosumers, aiding in planning, decision-making, optimization of energy sales, and evaluation of investments. This study aimed to develop machine learning models for hydropower forecasting in plants integrated into Water Distribution Systems, where energy is generated from water flow used for municipal water supply. The study involved developing and comparing monthly and two-week forecasting models, utilizing both one-step-ahead and two-step-ahead forecasting methodologies, along with different missing data imputation techniques. The tested algorithms—Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average, Random Forest, Temporal Convolutional Network, and Neural Basis Expansion Analysis for Time Series—produced varying levels of performance. The Random Forest model proved to be the most effective for monthly forecasting, while the Temporal Convolutional Network delivered the best results for two-week forecasting. Across all scenarios, the seasonal–trend decomposition using the LOESS technique emerged as the most successful for missing data imputation. The accurate predictions obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of using these models for energy planning and decision-making.

Abstract Objectives Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is the leading cause of hospitalization for lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) in young children worldwide. We evaluate the epidemiological and clinical patterns of RSV infection in infants hospitalized for LRTI in in Palermo, South Italy, Sicily. Methods We collected the demographic details of infants hospitalized to G. Di Cristina Children's Hospital in Palermo for LRTI between November 2005 and May 2006. We also included all cases occurred in newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Of Palermo. Results During the studied period, 335/705 hospitalized infants for LRTI were enrolled in the study. The trend of hospitalization started in late winter and lasting until May 2006 with an epidemic peak in spring. 178/335 infants tested for viral infection showed RSV disease. Three cases occurred in preterm newborns hospitalized from birth in NICU. The likelihood to be RSV+, rather than RSV negative (RSV-) was higher for infants < 6 months and lower for infants with history of breast feeding (P < 0.05). RSV infection was associated with a higher likelihood to be admitted to intensive care unit and to a longer hospitalization and oxygen therapy. Conclusion The study shows that, in Sicily, RSV is an important cause of LRTI in infants. The seasonal distribution shows that both LRTI and RSV infections peak in late spring, in contrast to Northern Italy. Our data could help to define the regional appropriate start of prophylactic interventions.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a major global health challenge, leading to significant morbidity and mortality while straining healthcare systems. Despite progress in medical treatments for CVDs, their increasing prevalence calls for a shift towards more effective prevention strategies. Traditional preventive approaches have centered around lifestyle changes, risk factors management, and medication. However, the integration of imaging methods offers a novel dimension in early disease detection, risk assessment, and ongoing monitoring of at-risk individuals. Imaging techniques such as supra-aortic trunks ultrasound, echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance, and coronary computed tomography angiography have broadened our understanding of the anatomical and functional aspects of cardiovascular health. These techniques enable personalized prevention strategies by providing detailed insights into the cardiac and vascular states, significantly enhancing our ability to combat the progression of CVDs. This review focuses on amalgamating current findings, technological innovations, and the impact of integrating advanced imaging modalities into cardiovascular risk prevention, aiming to offer a comprehensive perspective on their potential to transform preventive cardiology.

This work explores the potential of self-powered MEMS devices for application in the preventive conservation of cultural heritage. The main objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of piezoelectric aluminum nitride MEMS (AlN-MEMS) for monitoring vibrations and to investigate its potential for harvesting energy from vibrations, including those induced by visitors. A preliminary laboratory comparison was conducted between AlN-MEMS and the commercial device Tromino®. The study was then extended to the Picture Gallery of Ursino Castle, where joint measurements with the two devices were carried out. The analysis focused on identifying natural frequencies and vibrational energy levels by key metrics, including spectral peaks and the Power Spectral Density (PSD). The results indicated that the response of the AlN-MEMS aligned well with the data collected by the commercial device, especially observing high vibrational energy around 100 Hz. Such results validate the potential of AlN-MEMS for effective vibration measurement and for converting kinetic energy into electrical power, thereby eliminating the need for external power sources. Additionally, the vibrational analysis highlighted specific locations, such as the measurement point Cu4, as exhibiting the highest vibrational energy levels. These points could be used for placing MEMS sensors to ensure efficient vibration monitoring and energy harvesting.

Thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) and optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters (OSLD) are practical, accurate, and precise tools for point dosimetry in medical physics applications. The objective of this study is to investigate the luminescence properties—both OSL and TL—of lithium fluoride (LiF) doped with magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), and phosphorous (P) (LiF: Mg, Cu, P), commercially known as TLD-100H. The goal is to devise a methodological approach for dose measurement that allows for obtaining two independently measured dose values at each irradiation point, thereby improving accuracy and precision. The luminescence properties of TLD-100H were studied using a beta irradiation source (90Sr/90Y) integrated into the TL/OSL DA-15 automated Risø reader. This study identified the ideal experimental conditions for optimal dose evaluation and used them for dosimeter calibration across doses ranging from 0.5 to 4.0 Gy. The results demonstrated that, under optimal measurement parameters, the OSL and residual thermoluminescence (ResTL) signals—correlated to two trap systems within the dosimeter—exhibited high reproducibility, stability over multiple cycles, and high precision and accuracy (≤2%). Specifically, the OSL response showed good linear behavior across the investigated dose range, while the ResTL signal exhibited linear behavior between 0.5 and 2 Gy and sublinear behavior for doses >2 Gy.

The aim of the present study was to explore the effectiveness of bibliotherapy in rehabilitation settings. The term bibliotherapy, coined in the 1930’s by the psychiatrist William Menninger, conveys the importance of reading as a tool for cultural promotion and growth, as a means through which to acquire knowledge, enhance one's cognitive and emotional abilities, develop strategies for managing discomfort, as well as a psychoeducational and cognitive technique in the psychotherapeutic field. A study carried out on Pubmed showed that recent research on bibliotherapy, in particular experimental research, would be lacking and requires a humanistic medical approach, drawing on the knowledge and methods of psychology and cognitive literary studies, as well as clinical disciplines to broaden our understanding of how the dynamic processes of interpretation mediate between the textual and characteristic structures of mental health and illness. This narrative review was conducted on PubMed database and used two key terms “Bibliotherapy” AND “rehabilitation” AND “prison”. Studies in line with this specific issue were included. The search of PubMed database provided a total of 470 items recruited online; of these 464 studies were excluded according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. After the screening, a total of 6 studies assessing the bibliotherapy in rehabilitation setting, met the inclusion criteria and were included in the narrative review. Bibliotherapy as a self-help approach also in psychotherapeutic treatments can activate the desire to seek changes in attitudes and behaviour, to acquire knowledge of symptoms, and the value of self-care. A psychological intervention self-administered through ACT bibliotherapy with minimal therapeutic support can improve the physical and emotional functioning of adults with chronic pain. If studies report the efficacy of parent-mediated bibliotherapy in situations of childhood anxiety, nocturnal fears, specific phobias, in adolescence chatbot-delivered self-help depression intervention was proven to be superior to the minimal level of bibliotherapy in terms of reduction on depression and anxiety. Bibliotherapy interventions may be helpful to fight against weight gain and potentially facilitate smoking cessation.

ABSTRACTWe present a new 1:25,000-scale geological map of the lower Belice River valley, the area struck by the M > 5.0 devastating 1968 seismic sequence, whose seismic source and seismotectonic framework are still controversial. The map, utilizing dating methods and traditional field survey approaches integrated by high-resolution topography, provides an unprecedented detail and precision on the spatial distribution and on the compressional growth geometries of the prominent sedimentary sequence. This map, supported by the first recognition of an on-shore Chibanian-Calabrian deposition and by identifying a flight of marine terraces, offers new insights on the long-lasting syn-depositional tectonic forces up to late-Pleistocene-Holocene times. Such tectonic forces may take part in the regional ongoing deformational phase, prompting detailed studies on the potential seismic sources affecting the area.

This paper returns the outcomes of a research-training project, as result of the collaboration between university researchers and teachers and principals of a network of schools in Lazio. Research-training is a way of doing empirical research that, making use of differentiated methodologies aims to develop teaching professionalism through the construction of research paths agreed between universities and schools. The present investigation started from a training need made explicit by schools: the need to develop skills useful for dealing with the transition from grades to judgments. A synthesis of teachers’ diverse views on assessment and perceptions of change is proposed here. The reflection and evidence gathered can help to prefigure the direction to be taken to overcome the risk that the use of feedback or levels may trace a construct that refers to the grade, de-emphasizing or effectively nullifying its value. Feedback and restitution, on the other hand, are tools of a motivating design that aims to provide learners with guidance for understanding and analysing their own learning and support for making effective and conscious choices in organising future learning.

Sport Vision is a speciality of multidisciplinary interest aimed at improving the performance of the visual system to achieve benefits in practiced sports, as well as in daily life and in preventive care. The type of training practiced by the athlete, his or her physical condition, cognitive level, and level of fatigue condition affects the speed of the reaction time and, consequently, the speed of motor response. Specific orthoptic exercises, the use of technological devices, the recovery of static and dynamic postural stability by using unstable platforms and the dual-task paradigm can help to achieve the expected results. The aim of this systematic review of Sport Vision was to assess the overall existing literature on Sport Vision, paying particular attention to the effects of visual training and its application in different sports and in rehabilitation and preventive settings. We analysed published English language studies about the role of sport vision in athletic performance from 1950 to 2023. We searched through the Medline database. The PRISMA 2020 checklist was used to assess the transparency and reproducibility of this review. The enrolled papers were evaluated with the Jadad Scale, Amstar 2 Scale and Newcastle–Ottawa Scale. 25 (16 studies, 5 reviews, 2 comments, 1 editorial, 1 descriptive paper) out of 476 studies met the inclusion criteria. Due to the variability in the age of the samples, the different techniques, the treatments among the participants in the studies and the finding of non-evaluable articles, a meta-analysis was not conducted. The limitations of this review are the single database research, the studies analyzed contain a non-statistically representative sample size and the lack of a control group. There is no standardized test to measure performance. It was shown that the development of visual skills can benefit athletes in injury prevention, and can lead to improved sports performance and motor function at any age, acquiring adaptive motor behaviour even when the visual system is impaired, due to task repetition and familiarity of the gesture. We intended to identify a multidisciplinary approach and a manual treatment scheme to optimize the circuitry involved in sport vision in order to increase the results that are achieved, but further studies will be needed to this end.

This paper introduces an innovative sensor utilizing bubbles coated with thermochromic paint, aiming to facilitate temperature measurements in challenging-to-reach locations without the requirement of an external power source. The research conducted is innovative in terms of both methodology and application. The characterization of the thermochromic properties of paints was, in fact, performed using spectroradiometric measurements by selecting a temperature range useful for applications in various fields including preventive conservation. The study encompasses two main objectives: (1) analyzing the color characteristics of thermochromic paint and plastic resin that forms the bubbles, and (2) assessing a temperature sensor comprising a thermochromic paint-coated bubble subjected to temperature variations. The thermochromic paint exhibits reversible color modifications in response to temperature changes, making it an ideal candidate for applications of this nature. The color characterization phase involves measurements using a spectroradiometer to compare the spectral reflectance factor (SRF%) of the colored plastic resin spread on canvas with that of the inflated bubbles. The sensor characterization entails evaluating color changes of the thermochromic paint on the bubble surface with varying temperatures. Experimental results indicate that the combination of a red (R) bubble and blue (B) thermochromic paint produces quantifiable color variations suitable for the proposed applications, whereas the alternative combination under examination, namely a blue bubble and red thermochromic paint, yields less accurate results. Considering that for both thermochromic paints the color change temperature is 35 °C, it is possible to see how, for B bubble with R thermochromic paint, the chromatic coordinates change value: C* = 3.14 ± 0.14 and h = 289.54 ± 11.58 at room temperature, while C* = 2.96 ± 0.12 and h = 304.20 ± 12.17 at 35 °C. The same is true for R bubble with B thermochromic paint where C* = 25.31 ± 1.01 and h* = 285.05 ± 11.40 at room temperature, while C* = 20.87 ± 0.85 and h = 288.37 ± 11.53 at 35 °C. The study demonstrates the potential of the approach and suggests further investigations into reproducibility and expanded color combinations. The results provide a promising basis for future improvements in temperature monitoring with thermochromic bubble sensors.

We derived reference values of left-ventricular (LV) and right-ventricular (RV) strain parameters in a cohort of 100 healthy subjects by feature tracking cardiac magnetic resonance (FT-CMR). Global and regional strain values were calculated for the LV; circumferential and radialSAX strain parameters were derived from the short-axis (SAX) stack, while longitudinal and radialLAX strain parameters were assessed in three long-axis (LAX) views. Only global longitudinal strain (GLS) was calculated for the RV. Peak global LV circumferential strain was −16.7% ± 2.1%, LV radialSAX strain was 26.4% ± 5.1%, LV radialLAX strain was 31.1% ± 5.2%, LV GLS was −17.7% ± 1.9%, and RV GLS was −23.9% ± 4.1%. Women presented higher global LV and RV strain values than men; all strain values presented a weak relationship with body surface area, while there was no association with age or heart rate. A significant association was detected between all LV global strain measures and LV ejection fraction, while RV GLS was correlated to RV end-diastolic volume. The intra- and inter-operator reproducibility was good for all global strain measures. In the regional analysis, circumferential and radial strain values resulted higher at the apical level, while longitudinal strain values were higher at the basal level. The assessment of cardiac deformation by FT-CMR is feasible and reproducible and gender-specific reference values should be used.

This paper aims at assessing the use of nanomaterials in painting conservation and in cleaning practices that could be alternative to the traditional ones to overcome the limits of new green materials. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles have been spread and studied on historical painting surfaces with good results. In particular, the properties of TiO2 nanoparticles have been considered useful for self-cleaning and protective purposes against the accumulation of dirt and dust that represents the first phase in deterioration of historical painting surfaces. TiO2 nanoparticles, prepared in distilled water by Pulsed Laser Ablation in Liquids, were applied on painting mock-ups realized in the laboratory according to old recipes and using historical binders and pigments. The surface characteristics of the painting were investigated by contact angle measurement and by Atomic Force Microscopy. The optical and aesthetical compatibility of the colloidal dispersions with the painting was assessed by spectrophotometry, and then the cleaning efficiency was evaluated by discoloration of a dye under ultraviolet irradiation, at fixed time intervals, using colorimetric technique. Because of the high reactivity of nanoparticles, the possibility of degrading the painting surface, together with the chromatic marker, was examined by colorimetric measurements. The evaluation of the color changes is important for all the materials belonging to cultural heritage, especially painting, for which the color modification induced by protective and/or cleaning interventions could irremediably compromise the work of art.

This study investigates Intraobserver Features Variability (IFV) in radiomics studies and assesses the effectiveness of the ComBat harmonization method in mitigating these effects. Methods: This study utilizes data from the NSCLC-Radiomics-Interobserver1 dataset, comprising CT scans of 22 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) patients, with multiple Gross Tumor Volume (GTV) delineations performed by five radiation oncologists. Segmentation was completed manually ("vis") or by autosegmentation with manual editing ("auto"). A total of 1229 radiomic features were extracted from each GTV, segmentation method, and oncologist. Features extracted included first order, shape, GLCM, GLRLM, GLSZM, and GLDM from original, wavelet-filtered, and LoG-filtered images. Results: Before implementing ComBat harmonization, 83% of features exhibited p-values below 0.05 in the "vis" approach; this percentage decreased to 34% post-harmonization. Similarly, for the "auto" approach, 75% of features demonstrated statistical significance prior to ComBat, but this figure declined to 33% after its application. Among a subset of three expert radiation oncologists, percentages changed from 77% to 25% for "vis" contouring and from 64% to 23% for "auto" contouring. This study demonstrates that ComBat harmonization could effectively reduce IFV, enhancing the feasibility of multicenter radiomics studies. This study provides a detailed description of the new HUGO™ RAS System and suggests docking settings for gynecological surgery. The system is composed of an “open” surgical console with an HD–3D passive display, a system tower, and four arm carts. Each arm has an extremely wide range of adaptability resulting from the numerous joints. The human cadaver labs were performed at the ORSI Academy between August and December 2021. All procedures were performed by two surgical teams, each composed of a high-volume surgeon experienced in robotic surgery, gynecologic oncology, and pelvic sidewall surgery, and one bedside assistant. Three main gynecological surgical scenarios were identified: standard pelvic surgery, pelvic sidewall surgery, and para-aortic/upper abdominal surgery. Concerning the port placement, the chosen options were called “straight” and “bridge”; instead, the so-called “compact” and “butterfly” configurations were identified for the arm cart positioning. Four cadavers were used to perform total hysterectomy, radical hysterectomy, pelvic exenteration, pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy, and omentectomy. We performed several tests, identifying the best system configurations to draw the proper efficiency from the flexibility of the system in all gynecological surgical scenarios. The straight port placement seems to be adequate for standard pelvic surgery. The bridge trocar position is best to reach the deeper and lateral anatomical regions of the female pelvis. The compact and butterfly arm cart allocations are adequate for both straight and bridge port placement. When deep pelvic surgery was performed, the bedside assistant became more proficient by working with a standard laparoscopic instrument from an ancillary port placed in the left iliac fossa. The arm carts needed to be moved in an open manner, like for the proposed butterfly configuration. On the contrary, the compact disposition left enough space to assist from Palmer’s point port. Several basic and advanced gynecological surgical procedures were performed and completed successfully without encountering any technical or surgical issue, the results obtained were judged sufficient to proceed with the clinical experience in daily practice. The HUGO™ RAS system is flexible and highly performative in various surgical scenarios.

IntroductionThe J-Plasma has recently been introduced into the surgical community with different intrinsic characteristics aimed to further reduce the thermal effect and enhance precision when compared to standard radiofrequency. This study aimed to investigate the role of this new technology in different conditions of gynecological carcinomatosis characterized by the indication for regional peritonectomy and/or ablation, either in laparotomy (LPT) or in laparoscopy (LPS), in the context of a modern personalized approach to the surgical management of gynecological malignancies.Material and MethodsFrom January 2019 to April 2019, 12 patients were selected for this prospective pilot study at the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS in Rome. In this single surgeon experience, the inclusion criteria were: histologically proven advanced ovarian/endometrial cancer, primary or interval debulking surgery, and intraoperative indication for regional peritonectomy. Six patients were treated by LPS (Group 1) and 6 by LPT (Group 2).ResultsIn Group 1 the indication for debulking surgery was in 4 cases an interval debulking surgery and 2 advanced endometrial cancer. All patients in Group 2 underwent primary debulking surgery for advanced ovarian cancer. The whole cohort achieved a complete tumor excision after surgery. The median OT and median EBL were 195 min and 100 ml in Group 1, and 420 min and 500 ml in Group 2. The median hospital stay was 4 days in Group 1 and 13 days in Group 2, respectively. No intra and postoperative complications were registered within 60 days after surgery.ConclusionsJ-Plasma allows to approach delicate maneuvers on viscera, mesentery, and blood vessels with a high degree of safety and precision thanks to its limited vertical and lateral thermal spread, favoring the surgeon to push ever higher the cytoreduction/morbidity tradeoff. The use of J-Plasma in cytoreductive surgery could also increase the range of possible minimally invasive procedures, narrowing the technical distance with the open technique and thus contributing to designing a personalized surgical strategy for each patient in different scenarios of peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Hereditary periodic recurrent fevers (HRF) are monogenic autoinflammatory associated to mutations of some genes, such as diseases caused by mutations of including MEFV, TNFRSF1A and MVK genes. Despite the identification of the causative genes, the intracellular implications related to each gene variant are still largely unknown. A large –scale proteomic analysis on monocytes of these patients is aimed to identify with an unbiased approach the mean proteins and molecular interaction networks involved in the pathogenesis of these conditions. Monocytes from HRF 15 patients (5 with MFV, 5 TNFRSF1A and 5with MVK gene mutation) and 15 healthy donors (HDs) were analyzed by liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry before and after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. Significant proteins were analyzed through a Cytoscape analysis using the ClueGo app to identify molecular interaction networks. Protein networks for each HRF were performed through a STRING database analysis integrated with a DISEAE database query. About 5000 proteins for each HRF were identified. LPS treatment maximizes differences between up-regulated proteins in monocytes of HRF patients and HDs, independently from the disease’s activity and ongoing treatments. Proteins significantly modulated in monocytes of the different HRF allowed creating a disease-specific proteomic signatures and interactive protein network. Proteomic analysis is able to dissect the different intracellular pathways involved in the inflammatory response of circulating monocytes in HRF patients. The present data may help to identify a “monocyte proteomic signature” for each condition and unravel new possible unexplored intracellular pathways possibly involved in their pathogenesis. These data will be also useful to identify possible differences and similarities between the different HRFs and some multifactorial recurrent fevers.
