Online trading has become an important component of the portfolio of investors as it provides an attractive and profitable investment option in spite of the risk involved. Many individuals embraced diversified financial portfolios and started investing in Stocks, Cryptocurrencies, Bonds, Metals, and Commodities through online portals. It needs constant attention to the price of the financial commodities to obtain profits. However, the majority of the investors are landing in losses because of the lack of continual monitoring of the prices to ascertain the changes in the prices of financial commodities all the time. In this work, to assist users in order to avoid this tiresome task of continual monitoring, a prototype of a low-cost portable device for change indication in the price of multiple financial commodities of various trading paradigms based on NodeMCU is proposed. The device includes a Data retrieval and processing (DRP) unit in the form of nodeMCU, control unit, and notification unit. The DRP unit initially obtains the list of the financial commodities and control parameters including sampling rate, threshold, and time delay from the Google Firebase real-time database which are collected from user through a mobile application. Further, it fetches the real-time price data of the financial commodities to compute the percentage change in the given time duration and obtain the prioritized list i.e., the list of financial commodities as per the descending order of absolute percentage change and instructs the notification unit to generate alarm through an audio buzzer in case at least if one of the financial commodity exhibits an absolute percentage change greater than a predefined threshold. The notification unit also contains Red and Green LEDs corresponding to each of the financial commodities to indicate negative and positive changes that exceed the threshold. Further, an LCD displays the details of the first financial quantity in the prioritized list. The control unit comprises two designated switches to change the financial quantity whose details are to be displayed on the LCD and a silent mode switch to disable the audio notifications for the sake of convenience of the user. A prototype of the proposed device is realized with 16 cryptocurrencies, a sampling rate of one sample per minute, and a time delay of one hour for the purpose of testing the device. A maximum of 0.20 % of the mean error rate is observed in the price of Dogecoin, and 0% of the mean error rate is observed in the percentage change of price corresponding to all cryptocurrencies. Further, the number of notifications using RED and GREEN LEDs are computed for all cryptocurrencies which are found to be exactly in match with the original data with various threshold values of 1%,2%,5%, and 10%. The total number of notifications including both Red and Green LEDs is found to be higher in HBAR. The proposed device assists investors in making timely decisions for profitable trading and provides valuable insights about the momentum of various markets to readjust the investments and balance the portfolios accordingly.

The established mode of operation of the conveyor with a nominal linear load is the most economically advantageous from the point of view of increasing the energy efficiency of mineral transportation, in which the cargo flow with minerals corresponds to the nominal productivity of the conveyor. An increase in the linear load of the working branch of the traction-bearing body to a nominal value reduces the share of unproductive consumption due to which energy savings are achieved for a certain period of time, characterized by its hourly average value.

The object of research are hydrodynamical processes in fuel delivery system of marine diesel engine of type RT-flex with accumulate fuel injection system of type Common Rail. The problem, being solved, is maintenance of an effective operation of the specified diesel engines due to perfection work of their fuel equipment. The results of simulation modeling of the injection process by accumulator fuel delivery system Common Rail of the 50RT-flex engine are presented. On the basis of the functional diagram of system, a calculation model has been compiled that provides a description of the operation of the systems main blocks. The load characteristic of the fuel equipment is built in the traditional version – the dependence of the fuel delivery parameters from the engine load at a constant speed. For the system under consideration, the control element is the valve assembly connecting the injection control unit (ICU) with injectors. The parameters of the load characteristic in this study are modes with a constant engine speed n = 124 rpm and a change in the opening angle of the control valve in the range – φv = 6.6–14.4 °CA. The parameters of the devices that largely determine the characteristics of the fuel delivery and the quality of the working processes of a diesel engine are considered in more details. Such an element of the system is ICU, the working body of which is the dosing piston. The main parameters of its operation when delivering fuel are the magnitude and speed of the stroke. For the load characteristics in the accepted range of the valve control valve opening angle φv from 6.6 to 14.4 °CA (2.18 times), the piston stroke was hp = 4.29–8.61 mm (2.0 more). In this case, the dependence of hp on φv is linear. Area of use of the data received during research, ship crews and the shore services providing operation of vessels are. A material is applied in process of high school and is already used in various educational forms. The given researches are useful to developers and builders of marine diesel engines of a considered class. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fruit sorting determines market value. Farmers and traders commonly use physical-eye inspection and handpicking for sorting, but this is labour-intensive and ineffective. This research work aims to develop a sensor-based automated system for sorting freshly harvested tomato fruits. The automated system sorts tomato fruits into small, medium, and big sizes for market value. To evaluate the system performance, 115 fruits were machine-sorted and compared to eyeinspection and physical measurement. Physical measurement was done by measuring the minor, intermediate, and major diameters of each fruit with a Vernier calliper. While the eye-inspection was carried out by manual human examination with the eye. Results show average percentage error between physical measurement and automated sorting is 10.264%, which implies 89.736% accuracy. The influence of conveyor speed at three levels (2.8, 3.4, and 3.9) cm sec-1 on overall system performance was evaluated, and the optimum speed of 3.4 cm sec-1 was obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Water pollution is a serious problem in China and abroad. Revealing the source types and their spatio-temporal characteristics is the premise of effective watershed management and pollution prevention. Since the national control unit can better match the administrative division, it was useful for the manager to control water pollution. Taking the Fenhe River Basin as the research area, a SWAT model based on the national control unit was established in this study to reveal the current situation of water quantity and quality. Then, in combination with the differential evolution algorithm, the dynamic water environment capacities of each control unit were further discussed. The results showed that the flow upstream was lower, only 7.62–8.40 m
3 /s, but flow in the midstream and downstream increased to 17.58 m3 /s and 18.32 m3 /s. Additionally, the flow in tributaries was generally lower than that in the main stream, the flow in unit 6 and unit 11 were only 0.23 m3 /s and 0.62 m3 /s. The water quality upstream could meet the water quality requirements of drinking water sources, but the pollution in the midstream was the most serious after passing through Taiyuan City, the concentration of NH3 -N and TP reached to 6.75 mg/L and 0.41 mg/L. The results of water environmental capacity showed that the residual capacity of ammonia nitrogen (NH3 -N) and total phosphorus (TP) in the main stream were positive, indicating that the Fenhe River Basin can accommodate the current pollution load in general, but there was an obvious difference in different months of the year. Especially in the wet season, the non-point source (NPS) pollution problem in the midstream and downstream was more prominent, resulting in a high-capacity consumption rate. It showed that in Taiyuan, Jinzhong, and Linfen Yuncheng in Shanxi Province, should be wary of non-point source pollution. In addition, the water environmental capacity of different units also varied greatly. The capacity consumption of the Taiyuan Section in the midstream was the highest, which mainly occurred in the wet season. The negative values of the residual capacity of NH3 -N and TP reached the highest, −131.3 tons/month and −12.1 tons/month. Moreover, the capacity consumption downstream also reached 21–40% of the whole year in the wet season. In addition to the impact of NPS pollution in the wet season, due to the impact of point source pollution, units 8, 9, and 10 downstream had high negative residual capacity in the dry season, especially in January and February. The construction of a SWAT model based on control units and the further analysis of dynamic water environment capacity could provide technical support for Fenhe River Basin management to realize accurate pollution control. Emotional conversation generation model predicts the response according to the current words and the emotional words. However, the researchers only dedicated to adding more emotional words in the conversation generation model to retain the taste of chat users without considering whether the emotion of a response is suitable for human conversations or not. In this paper, we aim to address the issue of emotion drift which indicates the emotion of a response is not the same category as its post in human conversations. We propose a control unit framework, which consists of emotional channels and word-level attention mechanism, to incorporate natural and smooth emotional words into conversation generation. Emotional channel consists six channels, namely like, sadness, disgust, anger, happiness and other ones, which provides strategy choice control unit to generate emotional words. To improve the importance of emotional content, we use the word-level attention mechanism in emotional channel for acquiring a better emotional decoding response. Experimental results suggest that the proposed model is effective not only in generate content but also in emotion.

The aim of this study is to enhance the fermentation temperature inside the digester by supplying the required thermal energy to be within the desired optimum range (mesophilic range) for biogas production during winter “cold days”. Two 50 L digesters were used in the experiment that was conducted at Solar Energy Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, Cairo. One is a treatment digester and the other is a control digester. The treatment digester is thermally enhanced by a parabolic trough collector, while the control digester operated at the ambient temperature. The experiment was conducted through December 2018 and January 2019. The results show that the average temperature in the control digester through the experiment was 21.5°C, while in the treatment digester it was 27.08°C. This means that the parabolic trough collector enhanced the fermentation temperature in the treatment digester by 20.6%. The total biogas yield of the control digester and the treatment digester was 9684.7 mL/kg. T.S. and 24649.69 mL/kg. T.S. respectively. By comparing both productivities, it was found that the productivity of the treatment digester was 2.5 times more than the productivity of the control digester.

Increased wind power penetration and load demands lead to an increase in the peak-valley difference, which challenges system stability. This paper presents a hierarchical control strategy to coordinate multiple units of aggregated air-conditioning (AC) loads for power regulation to help reduce the peak-valley difference. First, the independent system operator (ISO) determines the purchased reserve capacity according to the roughly expected regulation effect, and the range of adjustable instructions is derived based on the purchased reserve capacity to help reduce the computation burden. Second, the economy optimizations between the ISO and load aggregators (LAs) are carried out to determine the distribution of purchased control units for AC. Third, after implementing unified planning by the ISO, the LAs deliver the scheduling instructions, including the triggering times and unit numbers, to the AC units to achieve short-term power regulation. Additionally, the scheduling accuracy can be set by changing the scale of the AC control units according to the requirements of the instructions. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control framework in Lianyungang, with 1000 control units participating. The method proposed in this paper could relieve the burden of the peak-valley difference effectively with less economic expenditure.

Whole world is suffering from the problem of the energy crisis. This is happening because of the enormous growth of population and industries across the globe. Therefore the whole world is looking to adopt the concepts of green communication technologies and power/energy efficient devices. This work is just towards these technologies. In this work, a power-efficient Control Unit (CU) is designed and implemented on Kintex-7 Ultrascale FPGA. The simulation and power analysis of the control unit is done on VIVADO HLx Design Suite. The power analysis of control unit is observed for different frequency values and it is observed that as the frequency increases the total power consumption also increases. Hence the control unit is more suitable to operate at low frequency values in order to minimize the power consumption. Also, there is a 36% saving in total power consumption when we scale down the device operating frequency of the control unit from 5 GHz to 100 MHz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Li, H.; Zhang, M.; Yuan, J.; Chen, X., and Yu, G., 2020. Assessment on water environmental capacity of coastal lowlands networked with rivers and lakes in the northern region of Jiaxing, China. Journal of Coastal Research, 36(6), 1154–1161. Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208. Networked rivers and lakes are widely distributed in coastal lowlands. The water quality in these regions is generally not good and endangers the ecosystem because pollutants accumulate easily. The northern region of Jiaxing, China, was chosen for the case study. This paper investigates the water environmental capacity of coastal lowlands networked with several rivers and lakes. Field measurements were conducted to collect hydrological, water quality, and statistical data in different periods. The study area was divided into river and lake control units, with 10 units in total. The water environment capacity and pollution sources of each control unit were analyzed. The results showed that the pollution load and remnant water environmental capacity of each control unit differ significantly for different periods and control units. The total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) in the region were severely over the standard values. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) and TP in the river control units were higher than those in the lake control units. During the period between October 2018 and June 2019, all control units exceeded the water environmental capacity of TN, but most control units did not exceed the limit for COD. The remnant water environmental capacity of most control units follows the order that the dry period is greater than the normal period, which is greater than the flood period. Finally, according to the pollution sources and water environmental capacity of each control unit, specific measures to improve the water environment were proposed. This study provides references to assess and improve the water environmental capacity in coastal lowlands networked with rivers and lakes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
In this work, a new elevator system created by a linear switched reluctance motor is presented. Unlike conventional linear motors, the proposed linear motor has more than one translator. Each phase in a translator generates a pulsing force; hence, the total generated force has noticeable ripple making it difficult to soft motion. In order to solve this problem, similar phases in different translators have been located in positions with specified distances together. As a result, similar force pulses would be shifted so that they can compensate together. An appropriate control strategy has been designed for the system, which can control the current, force, speed, and position simultaneously. A conventional proportional–integral controller and an adaptive fuzzy controller have been used to control the speed. In order to have a precise study, a prototype elevator system along with its control unit has been made and the obtained results have been compared with the simulation results. These results confirm that the proposed structure can significantly produce force and speed ripples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Quindi bisogna fare il layout tenendo molta attenzione ai parassiti In our three years of work, we have achieved the realization of a Firing unit board with the GaN and driver in a system in package. Three different boards were realized: A first board with only the resistor, the second one with the resistor and a shunt resistor and a third board with the laser diode and a shunt resistor. A DC-DC was realized for the supply while a control unit was realized for the control of the input signals of the driver.Unfortunately, no measurements of the firing unit have been done yet as we are still waiting for the chip to be completed. The DC-DC and the control unit board have been measured and tested. LIDAR application is the most attractive and efficient solution for this market. The challenges of LIDAR application consist in the development of the electronics generating a current pulse of 50A that lasts for less than 5ns. The technical area of this activity is fully autonomous self-driving car, and in particular what helps an autonomous vehicle to understand the world around it.

The Duliujian River is the largest river in the downstream area of the Haihe River. In order to further clarify the main pollutant load and load contribution of the basin, and analyze the watershed pollution control unit, key pollution sources and their spatial distribution characteristics, this study divides the control unit of the basin, which is based on the digital elevation model (DEM), and applies the expansion template of Arc Map-Arc Hydro tools software. On the basis of water environment capacity and total maximum daily load (TMDL) theory, water quality standards are set in accordance with the requirements of the water body function. Considering seasonal influence and the pollution load contribution rate, a total pollution load control plan and a load optimization allocation plan are proposed, in order to realize the distribution of pollution load among point source, non-point source and safety margin. According to the calculations, TMDL of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and NH
3 -N in the flood season (June-September) in the Duliujian River is the largest, about 27,005 kg/d and 2,296 kg/d, respectively. During the dry season (December-March), the reduction of COD and NH3 -N is the largest, reaching 50.74% and 90.14%, respectively. And Duliujian River is dominated by non-point source pollution. - Abstract
In this study, the energy data transfer problem in a DC microgrid with multiple renewable powered base stations (BSs) is considered. These BSs can share the renewable generation among each other. The energy cooperation is optimised by the control unit. For effective energy cooperation, energy data needs to be transferred from BSs to the control unit with low latency and high reliability. For cellular enabled microgrid communication, the energy data exchange and cellular communication both use the same communication resources. Thus, there will be interference at the control unit and cellular user (CU), which degrades the reliability of energy data transfer. To solve this problem, a linear precoding technique is designed to minimise the mean square error of the desired messages at the control unit, BSs, and CU while the interferences are kept at a predefined level. For the designed precoders, the expressions of signal‐to‐interference‐plus‐noise ratio are formulated and the error performance is analysed. Numerical simulation has been performed to compare the considered precoding technique with other precoding techniques. The simulation results demonstrate that optimum precoding can improve the error performance at the control unit, BSs, and CU by 1, 5, and 3 dB, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Maneuvering motions of a ship in calm water are studied through the concept of MMG model. Governing forces are defined by the use of available empirical formulae that require only main ship particulars as input variables. In order to validate the calculation tool, a full-scale sea experiment was carried out in Osaka Bay using a 17-m twin-screw passenger ferry. Test execution and data measurement were performed through the utilization of an autopilot control unit and satellite compass. The result of a straight running test confirms the acceptable accuracy in addressing the surge motion problem. Reasonable agreement between simulation and experiment is also confirmed for 5 ∘ / 5 ∘ and 10 ∘ / 10 ∘ zig-zag tests despite the strong environmental disturbance. The current model can generally represent the subject ship maneuvering motions and is promising for the application to other ship hulls.

At present, high penetration of photovoltaic (PV) systems on low voltage (LV) distribution systems is increasing worldwide because of several favourable conditions, such as government policies, decreasing cost of PV technologies, and environmental awareness. However, varying sunlight and three‐phase unbalanced load conditions can result in voltage violation, especially an overvoltage problem, and voltage unbalanced conditions that deteriorate the power quality. Therefore, disconnection of PV systems, especially on the downstream node, can occur due to the overvoltage protection of the PV system, which results in PV owners losing revenue from selling electricity. Moreover, some electrical appliances can be damaged from voltage unbalanced conditions. To support a high PV penetration and prevent these adverse impacts, this study applies a control strategy involving coordination between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and Local Control Functions (LCFs) of PV systems. The CCU applies the Adaptive Tabu Search (ATS) technique to search for the optimal LCF parameter setting of PV systems and adjusted this weekly. The optimization problem is the maximization of real power generation from all PV systems under varying (uncertain) sunlight and three‐phase unbalanced loads. MATLAB programming is used for the Newton–Raphson power flow simulation on a modified 19‐node distribution system.

Background: One of the vital organs that require regular check is heart. The representation of heart health can be identified through electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, blood pressure (BP), heart rate, and oxygen saturation (SpO2). Monitoring the heart condition needs to be regularly done to prevent heart attack that can occur suddenly and very quickly particularly for someone who has had a heart attack before. Nevertheless, it raises the problem of cost, time efficient, and flexibility. It takes a high cost and much time to perform this examination. A vital signal monitoring device is needed with low cost, wearable, accurate, and simple in use. Methods: This research designs and develops a device and application for monitoring human vital signals including ECG, SpO2, BP, and heart rate. A multi-sensor system with a control unit was applied to the device which was then called the Armband Vital Sign Monitor. This device can be used to measure vital parameters simultaneously using multiplexing techniques programmed in the microcontroller. Modern industrial technologies require raw materials of high purity from suppliers, especially due to the possible presence of inclusions of heterogeneous metals in them. The existence of metallic inclusions of heterogeneous metals in the raw materials leads to equipment failure, a decrease in the quality of output products, and, consequently, large financial losses. Since the main method of transporting raw materials in the industry is still a conveyor belt, this imposes additional conditions to control and remove metallic inclusions. For various reasons, current methods for removing metallic inclusions in the conveyor belt do not fully meet the needs of modern production. The main issue related to existing removal systems is the lack of intelligent interaction between these systems and the absence of information exchange between systems that detect and remove metallic inclusions. An alternative method for removing metallic inclusions of heterogeneous metals from loose medium has been proposed, which implies the tandem operation of the system that detects metallic inclusions and the system that removes them. The tandem operation of the two systems makes it possible to exchange information about a detected metallic inclusion and, as a result, to more flexibly use tools for the removal of metallic inclusion depending on the size and location of the metallic inclusion relative to the conveyor belt axis. At the same time, the control unit of the removal system makes it possible to control the conveyor belt itself, which allows the removal of complex metallic inclusions using the reverse of the electric drive of the belt, as well as enables a control check of the fact of removal. The developed algorithm of the removal system was implemented in the programming environment TIA-Portal. The introduction of this removal system could reduce the number of metallic inclusions in raw materials by 15‒20 %; moreover, its application is not limited to only one sector of the national economy

In this research subtopic, an electro-hydraulic servo four-legged heavy load (FLHL) robot has been designed and developed. This paper proposes an integration layout cylinder design scheme for a non-lightweight hydraulic servo four-legged robot with high loads and torques of hip joint, and derives the mathematical element analysis model for a parallel hydraulic servo cylinder system. The multiple inherent characteristics of the parallel-executed cylinder integration system model are further explored. Based on the controllable functional requirements of interconnected joints and weakening the influence of internal force coupling, a design idea of force/position hybrid control scheme for the parallel-executed cylinder is determined, and then the force/position signal module design unit is used to reversely solve the force/position hybrid control. Considering the inherent requirements of the servo-executed cylinder force control unit module, the implementation process of magnetic flux compensation and speed compensation is discussed in detail. The minimum amplitude controller is applied to the servo-executed cylinder force unit module, and the proportional integrated controller has been determined in the servo-executed cylinder position control unit module. A compound control strategy proposed in this paper is verified on a parallel hydraulic servo platform. The experimental verification results reveal that the values of position/force attenuation amplitude and lag phase are not greater than 9 % and 18°, respectively. In addition, the feasibility of the interconnected implementation of the hybrid control scheme proposed in this paper is further deepened. The effective conclusion of this research will be accepted in the application field of FLHL robot control system.

In the light of user-side energy power control requirements, a power control strategy for a household-level EPR based on HES droop control is proposed, focusing on the on-grid, off-grid and seamless switching process. The system operating states are divided based on the DC bus voltage information with one converter used as a slack terminal to stabilize the DC bus voltage and the other converters as power terminals. In the on-grid mode, the GCC and the HES are used as the main control unit to achieve on-grid stable operation, whereas in the off-grid mode, the PV, HES and LC are used as the main control unit at different voltages to achieve stable operation of the island network. Finally, a DC MG system based on a household-level EPR is developed using the PSCAD / EMTDC simulation platform and the results show that the control strategy can effectively adjust the output of each subunit and maintain the stability of the DC bus voltage.

A transformer is a permanent device that transfers power from one level to another. The primary goal of load sharing is to prevent the transformer from overload. The effectiveness of the transformer decreases as a result of the overload, and the windings become overheated and maybe burned. As a result, the transformer is protected by sharing load on it. This will be accomplished by using a microcontroller to connect another transformer in parallel. The load on the first transformer is compared to a reference value by the microcontroller. When the load exceeds the reference value, the additional load is shared by the second transformer. As a result, the two transformers operate effectively and harm is avoided. The sensor unit, control unit, and microcontroller are the main modules employed here. Switching is also sent to the control station using a GSM modem. The project's benefits include transformer protection, continuous power delivery, and short circuit protection.

By considering the application requirements of automatic welding of labels on the heads of bundled rebars in the iron and steel industry, an automatic label welding robot system is developed based on machine vision and image processing. The system consists of six modules: pickup unit, image unit, control unit, welding stud unit, label unit, and rebar unit. It can automatically pick up welding studs, pick up labels, perform welding, detect dropped labels, and detect dropped welding studs. The development process of label welding mainly includes the following steps. First, the Cascade RCNN object detection algorithm is used to detect the rebar head, so that the number of rebars and the pixel coordinates of the rebar head centers can be obtained. The detection accuracy of the number of rebars can reach 100%, and the Cascade RCNN average score is 0.9801. Then, an algorithm to identify the center of bundled rebar heads based on the variable-scale method (Davidon–Fletcher–Powell formula (DFP)) is proposed. In addition, limiting conditions, and a process for selection of weldable points for double-label welding are provided. And the coordinate conversion equations of weldable points in different coordinate systems are derived. Finally, a serious of functional verification tests of the robot system were carried out on an actual rebar production line, which verified the accuracy of the weldable point image recognition process, and the usability of the robot system. The results indicate that the accuracy of weldable point recognition can reach 98.99%.

Prospective cardiac gating during MRI is hampered by electromagnetic induction from the rapidly switched imaging gradients into the ECG detection circuit. This is particularly challenging in small animal MRI, as higher heart rates combined with a smaller myocardial mass render routine ECG detection challenging. We have developed an open-hardware system that enables continuously running MRI scans to be performed in conjunction with cardio-respiratory gating such that the relaxation-weighted steady state magnetisation is maintained throughout the scan. This requires that the R-wave must be detected reliably even in the presence of rapidly switching gradients, and that data previously acquired that were corrupted by respiratory motion re-acquired. The accurately maintained steady-state magnetisation leads to an improvement in image quality and removes alterations in intensity that may otherwise occur throughout the cardiac cycle and impact upon automated image analysis. We describe the hardware required to enable this and demonstrate its application and robust performance using prospectively cardio-respiratory gated CINE imaging that is operated at a single, constant TR. Schematics, technical drawings, component listing and assembly instructions are made publicly available.

Optimal scheduling of reconfigurable interconnected microgrids is a precious and critical task for the residential consumers especially with the integration of renewable energy sources, dispatchable units and energy storage systems. In this regard, not only the optimal scheduling of the microgrids in a realistic and correlated environment is a necessity, but also the guarantied security and the prevention of cyber-attacks are mandatory tasks for the operators. This article first addresses these issues by developing a novel framework based on blockchain for secured data transaction from the individual microgrids’ components to the central control unit and then tries to find the optimal scheduling plan using stochastic programming based on point estimate method (PEM). Through such a hybrid PEM-blockchain based framework, the interconnected microgrids can supply the residential loads in a fully reliable, economic and secured structure. We also consider a social-economic framework to not only minimize the total operating cost of the microgrids, but also benefit the customers by enhancing the social factors through the optimal switching. Considering the complex and nonlinear nature of the problem, an effective corrected crow search (CCS) algorithm is deployed to find the most optimal operating point for the microgrids. The quality and capabilities of the proposed model are investigated using a practical residential interconnected microgrid. The results show that the optimal switching could reduce the total operation cost from $22,716 to $21,935 (3.56% reduction). Also, the average energy not supplied (AENS) has reduced from 1.4115 to 1.352 kWh/customer.yr (4.40% reduction), which are notable values. The results advocate the quality and functionality of the proposed framework.

The aim of this study is to suggest a reliable low cost smart system for automating the heat treatment process. This system will reduce human direct interaction. The Fuzzy-PI control algorithm combined with ON/OFF algorithm was designed to automate the whole system operations. The overall automated furnace system includes control unit, algorithm, sensor and drive circuit was simulated in MATLAB/Simulink, tested for different heat treatment techniques. Normalizing and annealing heat treatments were performed on AISI1040 steel using a traditional method as well the embedded system with Fuzzy-PI control. The results show that the suggested Fuzzy-PI control algorithm and whole furnace system can reproduce any desired and arbitrary heat treatment technique curve with minimum error. Heat treatments resulted in significant changes in microstructure and hardness of the AISI1040 steel under investigation. In addition, there is no significant differing between the microstructure and hardness of AISI1040 steel after traditional and automated heat treatment processes. Where the hardness after traditional normalizing heat treatment was 234 HV, while it was 232 HV after automated normalizing heat treatment system. This confirms that the proposed automatic control system for heat treatment processes is reliable and useful in reducing the cost and time spent in these processes.

In some applications, researchers using the synthetic control method (SCM) to evaluate the effect of a policy may struggle to determine whether they have identified a “good match” between the control group and treated group. In this paper, we demonstrate the utility of the mean and maximum Absolute Standardized Mean Difference (ASMD) as a test of balance between a synthetic control unit and treated unit, and provide guidance on what constitutes a poor fit when using a synthetic control. We explore and compare other potential metrics using a simulation study. We provide an application of our proposed balance metric to the 2013 Los Angeles (LA) Firearm Study [9]. Using Uniform Crime Report data, we apply the SCM to obtain a counterfactual for the LA firearm-related crime rate based on a weighted combination of control units in a donor pool of cities. We use this counterfactual to estimate the effect of the LA Firearm Study intervention and explore the impact of changing the donor pool and pre-intervention duration period on resulting matches and estimated effects. We demonstrate how decision-making about the quality of a synthetic control can be improved by using ASMD. The mean and max ASMD clearly differentiate between poor matches and good matches. Researchers need better guidance on what is a meaningful imbalance between synthetic control and treated groups. In addition to the use of gap plots, the proposed balance metric can provide an objective way of determining fit.

The objective of this work is to present the design and testing of a Wireless Sensor Network, powered by solar energy, to be installed on freight trains with the purpose of performing on-board monitoring operations. A complete Wireless Sensor Network requires a certain number of Wireless Sensor Nodes, installed in significant points of a vehicle, provided with sensors and capable of elaborating raw data, transmitting them via wireless network as synthesis information to an on-board control unit. The on-board control unit periodically communicates the data gathered from different sensors to a ground central control unit through the Internet. Each Wireless Sensor Node needs to be powered independently. To achieve this purpose a small solar panel was used to provide the Wireless Sensor Node with the necessary amount of energy. Integrated circuits were designed for power management, acquisition, elaboration and wireless transmission of data and analyzed in terms of performances and energy consumption. The communication protocol between the Wireless Sensor Node and the control unit was first laboratory-tested and finally the whole system was installed on a real wagon, and on-field tests were conducted for a period of almost one year.

- Abstract
In order to meet the needs of the control-unit-based water pollution prevention problem in China, we proposed a comprehensive control unit zoning method with the combined basic administrative region and objective watershed management. The method can effectively connect the natural characteristics of watershed water sources, three-level zoning of water resources, and comprehensively consider the pollution distribution, socio-economics and many other factors. The zoning process includes four steps: (1) Generate the multi-level hydrological unit; (2) Identify the multi-element water catchment units; (3) Obtain the control unit with the administrative boundary as the boundary; (4) Check and adjust the results to meet the actual needs. Based on this method, the Yangtze River Basin was divided into 568 control units with a total area of 1.91 million km². These control units were used as the basic unit to analyze the water quality status and the results show that the upper reaches have good water quality, while the lower reaches have poor water quality and more serious water pollution. Our study helps the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China develop the list of control units that are needed to improve water quality during the "13th Five-Year Plan", with a goal to provide technical support for control-unit-based water pollution prevention and control in the future. - Abstract
Radio over fiber (RoF) is a very attractive and promising technology for wireless access networks, because of several advantages such as providing huge bandwidth, inherent immunity to electromagnetic interference and reduced power consumption. The analog RoF networks cannot be used for the transmission of radio signals over long lengths of fiber due to the distortions induced by dispersion and nonlinearity of the optical link. The digitized RoF communication presents an interesting alternative to circumvent the limitations of ARoF networks. In this paper, we propose an all-optical DRoF (Digital RoF) scheme based on the optical encoding technique and optical codewords instead of modulation techniques. The proposed scheme is composed of an all-optical sampler, an all-optical thresholder and an all-optical encoder. The proposed all-optical DRoF design is simulated by implementing its three main components using the simulation platform, Optisystem. We have also studied the capacity of the proposed encoding architecture in terms of the maximum number of chips that can be supported. Furthermore, ARoF, DRoF and the proposed all-optical DRoF systems are compared based on the minimum bit error rate, the maximum quality factor, and the complexity and implementation cost.
