1. The Impact of the COVID 19 Pandemic on Psychiatric Hospitalizations in a Portuguese Department: A Retrospective Observacional Study

Abstract: Introduction The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic on March 11th 2020. Since then, the containment measures were leading to increasing mental health problems in the general population and worsening of some pre‑existing psychiatric conditions. To our knowledge, there are few studies characterizing the impact of the COVID‑19 pandemic on psychiatric hospitalizations across the world. Objectives We aimed to compare the number and characteristics of the hospitalizations in the mental health department of a Portuguese psychiatric hospital from March 2nd 2019 to October 31st 2019 with those that occurred in the same period in 2020. Methods We conducted a retrospective observational study including all patients admitted to hospital during these periods (n=805). Sociodemographic data, clinical characteristics and information about the context of hospitalization were collected. Statistical analysis was performed using t Student Test, Mann‑Whitney and Chi‑square. Results In the pandemic period there was a marked reduction in the number of psychiatric hospitalizations. There was a statistically significant difference in the median length of stay and in the percentage of involuntary hospitalizations between the two periods. In 2019, the most frequent International Classification of Diseases (10th Revision) diagnostic categories were F30‑F39 (mood disorders) and in 2020 were F20‑F29 (schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders). Conclusions The reorganization of services and the decrease in admissions through the emergency department may explain these results. Disclosure of Interest None Declared

2. Neurohormonal modulation: The new paradigm of pharmacological treatment of heart failure

Abstract: The current paradigm of medical therapy for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is triple neurohormonal blockade with an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI), a beta-blocker (BB) and a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA). However, three-year mortality remains over 30%.Stimulation of counter-regulatory systems in addition to neurohormonal blockade constitutes a new paradigm, termed neurohormonal modulation. Sacubitril/valsartan is the first element of this new strategy.PARADIGM-HF was the largest randomized clinical trial conducted in HFrEF. It included 8442 patients and compared the efficacy and safety of sacubitril/valsartan versus enalapril. The primary endpoint was the composite of cardiovascular mortality and hospitalization due to HF, which occurred in 914 (21.8%) patients receiving sacubitril/valsartan and in 1117 (26.5%) patients receiving enalapril (HR 0.8, 95% CI 0.73-0.87, p=0.0000002; NNT 21). Sacubitril/valsartan reduced both primary endpoint components, as well as sudden cardiac death, death due to worsening HF, and death from all causes. Patients on sacubitril/valsartan reported less frequent deterioration of HF and of quality of life, and discontinued study medication less frequently because of an adverse event.PARADIGM-HF demonstrated the superiority of sacubitril/valsartan over enalapril, with a 20% greater impact on cardiovascular mortality compared to ACEIs. Accordingly, in 2016, the European (ESC) and American (ACC/AHA/HFSA) cardiology societies simultaneously issued a class I recommendation for the replacement of ACEIs by sacubitril/valsartan in patients resembling PARADIGM-HF trial participants. Resumo: O paradigma atual da terapêutica médica da insuficiência cardíaca com fração de ejeção reduzida (ICFEr) é o triplo bloqueio neuro-hormonal com inibidores da enzima conversora da angiotensina (IECA), bloqueadores beta-adrenérgicos (BB) e antagonistas dos recetores mineralocorticóides (ARM). Contudo, a mortalidade a três anos destes doentes mantém-se superior a 30%.A estimulação de sistemas contra-reguladores em adição ao bloqueio neuro-hormonal constitui um novo paradigma designado por modulação neuro-hormonal. O sacubitril/valsartan é o primeiro passo desta nova estratégia.O PARADIGM-HF foi o maior estudo aleatorizado realizado na ICFEr, tendo incluído 8442 doentes. Comparou a eficácia e segurança do sacubitril/valsartan versus enalapril. O objetivo primário foi o composto mortalidade cardiovascular/hospitalização por IC. Este ocorreu em 914 (21,8%) doentes sob sacubitril/valsartan e 1117 (26,5%) doentes sob enalapril (hazard ratio (HR) 0,8, IC95% [0,73-0,87], p=0,0000002, número de doentes necessário para prevenir um evento [NNT]=21). O sacubitril/valsartan reduziu ambos os componentes do objetivo primário. Diminuiu a morte súbita cardíaca, a devida a agravamento da IC e também a morte por todas as causas. Nos doentes sob sacubitril/valsartan ocorreu menos frequentemente agravamento da IC, deterioração da qualidade de vida e interrupção da medicação em consequência de um efeito adverso.O PARADIGM-HF demonstrou superioridade do sacubitril/valsartan relativamente ao enalapril, sendo o seu efeito sobre a mortalidade cardiovascular 20% superior ao dos IECAs. Assim, as Sociedades Europeia (ESC) e Americanas (ACC/AHA/HFSA) de Cardiologia incluíram, simultaneamente, em 2016 uma recomendação de Classe I para substituição dos IECAs pelo sacubitril/valsartan em doentes com características semelhantes aos participantes do ensaio PARADIGM-HF. 3. White matter disconnection and decreased functional connectivity between orbitofrontal cortex and the contralateral temporo-occipital cortex in adults with obsessive compulsive disorder

Abstract: Introduction Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) affects 2-3% of the general population. The neurobiology of OCD has been linked to dysfunction of cortico-striatal circuits connecting the orbitofrontal (OFC) to the striatum. Recently, this loop has become an approved target for non-invasive neuromodulatory treatment of OCD. Objectives To explore structural and functional connectivity of the OFC in OCD subjects and healthy controls. Methods 14 OCD patients and 12 age/sex-matched controls underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (3T-Philips scanner) for diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and resting state functional connectivity (rsFC). DTI images were brain extracted and corrected for movement and eddy currents. A diffusion tensor model was fitted to each voxel and used to generate Fractional Anisotropy (FA) maps. Voxel-wise statistical analysis of FA was performed using Tract-Based Spatial Statistics. RsFC images were preprocessed and seed-based correlation (SBC) analysis was performed using Data Processing Assistant for Resting-State fMRI. Results We found decreased values of FA in the body of the Corpus Callosum bilaterally (MNI_coordinates: x= 16, y= -16, z= 33 and x= -19, y= -16, z= 42) and left superior longitudinal fasciculus in OCD patients (fig 1, left), as well as decreased rsFC of the right superior orbitofrontal seed with the left inferior frontal gyrus and left middle occipital gyrus (fig 2, right). Conclusions Using an exploratory multimodal approach we found evidence of abnormal structural and functional long-range connectivity of the OFC in OCD. If confirmed in a larger sample these connectivity abnormalities could be explored as potential predictors of response to OFC-targeted non-invasive neuromodulatory interventions. Abstract: Background: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD–Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective noninterventional registry, which is providing important information on the baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and 1-year outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This report describes data from Indian patients recruited in this registry. Methods and results: A total of 52,014 patients with newly diagnosed AF were enrolled globally; of these, 1388 patients were recruited from 26 sites within India (2012–2016). Abstract: La orbitopatía tiroidea es una patología potencialmente grave que amenaza la visión. Es la manifestación extratiroidea más frecuente de la enfermedad de Graves y, aunque la prevalencia no está evaluada en Colombia, puede producir pérdida de la visión, con consecuencias catastróficas. Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior, se realizó este trabajo con el objetivo de describir su enfoque diagnóstico y terapéutico basado en la mejor evidencia disponible. Se elaboró un protocolo de manejo aplicable a nuestro medio y se realizó una evaluación y adaptación de la guía European Group on Graves’ Orbitopathy (EUGOGO) del 2016 (1). Para la evaluación se usó la herramienta AGREE IIy se utilizó la metodología GRADE para la graduación de la calidad de la evidencia y formulación de las recomendaciones (2). Adicionalmente, se hizo una revisión sistemática de la literatura con el objetivo de evaluar la eficacia de la terapia biológica en el manejo de la orbitopatía de Graves. Se presentan las recomendaciones para el diagnóstico, tratamiento y seguimiento. Se recalca la importancia de contar con un equipo multidisciplinario con experiencia en el manejo de la orbitopatía tiroidea (endocrinología, oftalmología, cirugía de órbita, radioterapia y reumatología), idealmente en un centro de tercer nivel de atención. Es esencial la clasificación adecuada para determinar qué pacientes se benefician del tratamiento inmunosupresor. Si se maneja de forma oportuna, se puede lograr una disminución de la aparición de secuelas irreversibles

6. Estimating red deer abundance using the pellet-based distance sampling method

Abstract: Many European agricultural landscapes have been abandoned facilitating the comeback of large ungulates. In Portugal, the increase in red deer numbers caused local conflicts with landowners reporting economic losses in forest and agricultural plantations. A great effort is needed to mitigate human-red deer conflicts through management strategies. Successful management strategies require reliable information on population trends. Here we propose an easy and readily applied method to estimate an increasing ungulate population. We estimated the red deer population density in a Mediterranean environment located in northeastern Portugal: Lombada National Hunting Area (LNHA) and Serra de Montesinho (SM), using pellet group counts coupled with distance sampling to account for pellet detectability. The estimated red deer density using a stratified detection function was 5.81 indd per 100 ha for LNHA and 1.34 indd per 100 ha for SM (95% CI: 3.65-9.25 and 0.74-2.42, respectively). For the entire area, the estimated density was 3.38 deer per 100 ha (95% CI: 2.18-5.24). Monitoring population trends is crucial to assess the impact of methods aimed at reducing the population size or impact and here we provided an example of a robust method that can be implemented to continuously monitor expanding populations.

Abstract: Abstract For half a century, the Mallet Scale (MS) has been utilized to assess upper limb function in patients with obstetric brachial plexus palsy (OBPP). However, the correct use of the MS requires trained personnel and the MS does not measure compensatory movements. For this reason, new methods are needed to compensate for these weaknesses. This study introduces an innovative method for objective functional motion analysis using accelerometers to measure upper limb movements in thirty patients with obstetric brachial plexus lesions. Five triaxial accelerometers were positioned on the chest and each upper limb. They recorded acceleration signals during repetitive everyday tasks: hand-to-mouth (HM), hand-to-neck (HN), and hand-to-spine (HS). From these signals, 54 features were extracted and subjected to linear correlation tests to identify 5 suitable features. An algorithm was then developed to categorize patients into five groups and compute an individual movement performance score (iMPScore) assessing the patient’s upper extremity function. By using the iMPScore more than 75% of all participants have been classified correctly with respect to their MS category. Identification of MS I category patients in general and assessing upper extremity function of MS I to III in HS tasks were most challenging. We conclude that the introduced approach is a valuable tool for gauging movement limitation of upper limbs in patients with obstetric brachial plexus palsy. Compared to other clinically established methods, it becomes possible to record and even quantify the extent of compensatory movements. In this way, an objective, user- and patient-friendly method is offered, which supports significantly physicians and therapists in their evaluation of OBPP.

Abstract: The effect of environmental and genetic effects on the farrowing interval in Dalland (C-40) sows in the Southeast of Brazil was studied. Data consisting of 1,013 farrowing intervals recorded in two herds were analyzed, using a model that included the sire and the dam as random effects and the year of farrowing, the herd and the farrowing season as fixed effects, plus the covariables sow's age at farrowing, litter size at birth, lactation length and weaning-estrus interval. For the farrowing interval first only, variance components were estimated by REML, with an animal model that included, as fixed effect, a contemporary group and, as random effects, the additive genetic variance and the error. The mean farrowing interval was 140.9+5.7 days, with a 4.0% coefficient of variation. Variance analysis showed no effect of either year, season of farrowing or herd on the farrowing interval. The sire effect was not important for the farrowing interval, but the dam represented an important source of variation. The total number of piglets born and the sow's age at farrowing had no influence on the farrowing interval. The length of lactation exerted an influence on the farrowing interval, accounting for 19.4% of the total variation of this trait. Likewise, the linear regression of the weaning-estrus interval in relation to the farrowing interval was highly significant, accounting for 51.7% of the total variation. The heritability estimate was 0.00, suggesting that no genetic gain can be obtained by selection for a shorter farrowing interval.

La ardilla roja (Sciurus vulgaris), que estaba extinta en Portugal desde el s. XVI, fue reintroducida en varios parques urbanos en la década de los años 90, principalmente con fines estéticos y recreativos. Evaluamos la eficacia de esta reintroducción en dos parques urbanos y describimos los pasos fundamentales de la misma. Se evaluaron la utilización del hábitat, la densidad y abundancia de la población y las medidas de gestión adoptadas durante los proyectos de reintroducción. Las reintroducciones fueron relativamente eficaces dado a que las ardillas seguían presentes 20 años después de la liberación. No obstante, las poblaciones en ambos parques están disminuyendo debido a la falta de una gestión activa y a la mala calidad del hábitat. La reintroducción eficaz de la ardilla roja en zonas donde no hay ardillas arborícolas exóticas conlleva tres etapas fundamentales. La etapa previa al proyecto comprende estudios sobre la calidad del hábitat; la proximidad genética entre los donantes y la población silvestre más cercana, y la salud de las poblaciones donantes. En la etapa de liberación, el número de individuos liberados dependerá de la variabilidad de los recursos disponibles; asimismo, se ha observado que la técnica de liberación dura es un método eficaz y viable desde el punto de vista económico. Las actividades posteriores a la liberación deberían analizar la adaptación, mitigar la mortalidad, hacer un seguimiento de la necesidad de aportar alimentación complementaria, prestar apoyo veterinario y fomentar la sensibilización pública y la educación.

En este trabajo se evaluó el potencial que tienen las egagrópilas del aguilucho lagunero (Circus aeruginosus) como un método no invasivo para estudiar las comunidades de pequeños mamíferos, mediante la comparación de los resultados con los obtenidos en las trampas de tipo Sherman y las de caída (pitfall). Los tres métodos se utilizaron simultáneamente en un complejo formado por tierras agrícolas y humedales en el noroeste de Portugal. Las estimaciones de la riqueza, la diversidad, la uniformidad y la abundancia de especies y la proporción de cada una de ellas dentro de la comunidad mostraron diferencias significativas entre los tres métodos. Nuestros resultados sugieren que la utilización de las egagrópilas del aguilucho lagunero es más eficaz para inventariar las especies de pequeños mamíferos que cualquiera de los dos tipos de trampas, al mismo tiempo que evita la muerte involuntaria de animales asociada con el muestreo de pequeños mamíferos no voladores. Además, el análisis de las egagrópilas fue el método más rentable. Entre los dos métodos de captura, la muerte involuntaria de animales fue mayor en las trampas de caída que en las trampas de tipo Sherman. Se discuten las ventajas y los inconvenientes de los tres métodos tanto desde una perspectiva técnica como conservacionista.

In this constructive solution, the insulation is placed over the waterproofing material as a protection. It is believed that this solution provides a longer life cycle; given the fact that it limits the thermal variation the waterproofing material bears up to the end of its life cycle. Consequently, the result will be providing a longer life to the waterproofing membrane. This constructive solution always incorporates polymers or other materials with a thermoplastic addition in their composition. Some polymers show interactions between them that can affect their integrity, and, at the same time, the bulk of the polymeric materials are incompatible. The extruded polystyrene board is always present in the inverted flat roof, and although it is an unbeatable product for this use, it presents incompatibilities and interactions with other materials, and these can affect their properties and therefore the durability of them.

En el presente estudio, utilizamos datos obtenidos con cámaras de trampeo en estudios sobre la jineta común (Genetta genetta) en Serra da Malcata (Portugal) concebidos para comparar las estimaciones de abundancia producidas por los modelos de SECR y los modelos tradicionales de captura para una población cerrada. Utilizando los modelos de SECR, observamos la existencia de heterogeneidad espacial en la distribución de la jineta y las estimaciones de la densidad fueron aproximadamente dos veces inferiores a las obtenidas en los modelos para poblaciones cerradas. Las estimaciones del modelo no espacial se limitaron al tamaño de la cuadrícula de muestreo y probablemente infravaloraron los movimientos, lo que conllevaría que se sobreestimara la densidad. Los estudios futuros deberían sopesar la incorporación de modelos de carga–distancia que puedan incluir hipótesis explícitas sobre la forma en que las variables medioambientales influyen en la métrica de la distancia.

Abstract: Neoplasia is one of the main causes of euthanasia in geriatric captive nondomestic felids. However, few studies have examined oral tumors in these animals. We describe here the clinicopathologic features of gingival squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in 2 lions (Panthera leo) from separate zoologic collections. In both cases, the lions had a history of sialorrhea, bloody oral discharge, and anorexia. Autopsy findings in both lions were similar and were characterized by poorly circumscribed, friable, and bloody gingival masses with grossly apparent invasion of the mandibular bone; a pathologic fracture was observed in 1 case. Histologically, the masses consisted of poorly circumscribed, unencapsulated, densely cellular proliferations of neoplastic epithelial cells arranged in irregular islands, cords, and anastomosing trabeculae with formation of keratin pearls, which, coupled with positive immunohistochemistry for pancytokeratin, were diagnostic for SCC. Abstract: Bottom-up design of electrolyte mixtures for battery systems requires predicting macro thermodynamic properties from molecular constituents. For instance, molten salt electrolyte batteries require conditions far above room temperature to operate. Therefore, discovering mixtures with increasingly lower eutectic melting points is desirable. A model that can approximate chemical activity is a valuable tool to search through the vast compositional design space. Machine learning can predict properties of materials such as vibrational free energies, electronic energy gaps, and thermal conductivities. Moreover, they can learn physical models such as interatomic potentials. The COSMO-SAC model uses theory and empirical parameterization to predict liquid-vapor and liquid-solid properties using first-principles calculations. However, obtaining activity coefficients required for parameterizing the COSMO-SAC model is costly and limited to a select chemical space. In this work, we explored if machine learning methods could improve the COSMO-SAC model and bridge density functional theory calculations to liquid phase thermodynamic properties. Our data-driven approach uses existing databases for sigma-profiles of organic solvents and reconciles their methodological differences via ensemble averaging. First, an optimal machine learning model is constructed for each dataset. Our machine learning algorithms use the sigma-profile as an input feature to predict binary mixtures' activity coefficients using multi-output regression. Each dataset uses different choices of functionals, methods, and basis sets. Therefore, our ensemble model attempts to predict corrected activity coefficients given the combination of all the model outputs. The activity coefficients used for training are generated using the COSMO-SAC model. This approach enables the extraction of meaningful information from the existing datasets to improve the COSMO-SAC model for obtaining thermodynamic properties of electrolyte mixtures. With the liquid phase activities, we can identify electrolyte mixtures that meet desired phase equilibria conditions.

This article focuses on the application of deep learning algorithms to detect the presence of masks on people in public spaces (using RGB cameras), as well as the detection of the caruncle in the human eye area to make an accurate measurement of body temperature (using thermal cameras). For this task, synthetic data generation techniques were used to create hybrid datasets from public ones to train state-of-the-art algorithms, such as YOLOv5 object detector and a keypoint detector based on Resnet-50. For RGB mask detection, YOLOv5 achieved an average precision of 82.4%. For thermal masks, glasses, and caruncle detection, YOLOv5 and keypoint detector achieved an average precision of 96.65% and 78.7%, respectively. Abstract: Marine organisms are a source of active biomolecules with immense therapeutic and nutraceutical potential. Sulfated fucose-rich polysaccharides are present in large quantities in these organisms with important pharmacological effects in several biological systems. These polysaccharides include sulfated fucan (as fucoidan) and fucosylated chondroitin sulfate. The development of these polysaccharides as new drugs involves several important steps, among them, demonstration of the effectiveness of these compounds after oral administration. The oral route is the more practical, comfortable and preferred by patients for long-term treatments. In the past 20 years, reports of various pharmacological effects of these polysaccharides orally administered in several animal experimental models and some trials in humans have sparked the possibility for the development of drugs based on sulfated polysaccharides and/or the use of these marine organisms as functional food. This review focuses on the main pharmacological effects of sulfated fucose-rich polysaccharides, with an emphasis on the antidislipidemic, immunomodulatory, antitumor, hypoglycemic and hemostatic effects.

Abstract: This study investigates the osteogenic differentiation of umbilical-cord-derived human mesenchymal stromal cells (hUC-MSCs) on biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) scaffolds derived from cuttlefish bone doped with metal ions and coated with polymers. First, the in vitro cytocompatibility of the undoped and ion-doped (Sr2+, Mg2+ and/or Zn2+) BCP scaffolds was evaluated for 72 h using Live/Dead staining and viability assays. From these tests, the most promising composition was found to be the BCP scaffold doped with strontium (Sr2+), magnesium (Mg2+) and zinc (Zn2+) (BCP-6Sr2Mg2Zn). Then, samples from the BCP-6Sr2Mg2Zn were coated with poly(ԑ-caprolactone) (PCL) or poly(ester urea) (PEU). The results showed that hUC-MSCs can differentiate into osteoblasts, and hUC-MSCs seeded on the PEU-coated scaffolds proliferated well, adhered to the scaffold surfaces, and enhanced their differentiation capabilities without negative effects on cell proliferation under in vitro conditions. Overall, these results suggest that PEU-coated scaffolds are an alternative to PCL for use in bone regeneration, providing a suitable environment to maximally induce osteogenesis.

Abstract: Acute high-altitude (HA) exposure can induce several pathologies. Dexamethasone (DEX) can be taken prophylactically to prevent HA disease, but the mechanism by which it acts in this setting is unclear. We studied the transcriptome of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from 16 subjects at low altitude (LA, 225 m) and then 3 days after acute travel to HA (3500 m) during the India-Leh-Dexamethasone-Expedition-2020 (INDEX2020). Half of the participants received oral DEX prophylaxis 4 mg twice daily in an unblinded manner, starting 1 day prior to travel to HA, and 12 h prior to the first PBMC collection. PBMC transcriptome data were obtained from 16 subjects, half of whom received DEX. The principal component analysis demonstrated a clear separation of the groups by altitude and treatment. HA exposure resulted in a large number of gene expression changes, particularly in pathways of inflammation or the regulation of cell division, translation, or transcription. DEX prophylaxis resulted in changes in fewer genes, particularly in immune pathways. The gene sets modulated by HA and DEX were distinct. Deconvolution analysis to assess PBMC subpopulations suggested changes in B-cell, T-cell, dendritic cell, and myeloid cell numbers with HA and DEX exposures. Acute HA travel and DEX prophylaxis induce significant changes in the PBMC transcriptome. 27. Accuracy of intraoperative consultation in lesions of the salivary glands: analysis of 748 cases

Abstract: Introduction: Lesions of the salivary glands are uncommon, representing 2% to 6.5% of all neoplasms of head and neck, and because of the difference in treatment between them, an accurate diagnosis is essential. The cytological study by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy is a highly accurate method used to diagnose lesions of the salivary glands. Intraoperative consultation (IOC), in its turn, is a test that provides diagnosis during surgery, aiming to differentiate malignant from benign lesions and to enable the most appropriate surgical approach. Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of IOC in salivary gland lesions. Material and methods: A survey was conducted in the database of Instituto Nacional de Câncer (Inca) into IOC for diagnosis of salivary gland lesions from January 2001 to December 2012, and found 748 cases. Diagnosis made at IOC (IOCD) was compared with the gold standard histopathological diagnosis and classified into: 1) consenting; 2) discordant; and 3) indeterminate. From these data, sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were calculated. Results: Among the 748 IOCs, results were concordant in 656 cases (88%), discordant in 56 (7%), and indeterminate in 36 (5%). Sensitivity was 78%, specificity 99% and accuracy 92%. Conclusion: Our results indicate that IOC in salivary gland lesions is highly accurate and can contribute to the surgical approach.

28. Exploiting polyelectrolyte complexation for the development of adhesive and bioactive membranes envisaging guided tissue regeneration

Abstract: Mussels secrete protein-based byssal threads to tether to rocks, ships, and other organisms underwater. The secreted marine mussel adhesive proteins (MAPs) contain the peculiar amino acid L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA), whose catechol group content contributes greatly to their outstanding adhesive properties. Inspired by such mussel bioadhesion, we demonstrate that catechol-modified polysaccharides can be used to obtain adhesive membranes using the compaction of polyelectrolyte complexes (CoPEC) method. It is a simple and versatile approach that uses polyelectrolyte complexes as building blocks that coalesce and dry as membrane constructs simply as a result of sedimentation and mild temperature. We used two natural and biocompatible polymers: chitosan (CHI) as a polycation and hyaluronic acid (HA) as a polyanion. The CoPEC technique also allowed the entrapment of ternary bioactive glass nanoparticles to stimulate mineralization. Moreover, combinations of these polymers modified with catechol groups were made to enhance the adhesive properties of the assembled membranes. Extensive physico-chemical characterization was performed to investigate the successful production of composite CoPEC membranes in terms of surface morphology, wettability, stability, mechanical performance, in vitro bioactivity, and cellular behavior. 29. Training Effects on the Stress Predictors for Young Lusitano Horses Used in Dressage

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate stressful responses during a 6-week training protocol in young Lusitano horses used for dressage. The hypothesis was that the proposed training protocol would improve fitness and ensure the welfare of the animals by reducing stress predictors. Nine 4-year-old horses were evaluated before (M1) and six weeks after (M2) beginning a training protocol. The training program was performed six times per week and included 40–80 min of individually intensity-adjusted preparatory exercises for dressage. For both moments, the horses were examined before (T0) and after (T1) dressage simulation tests (DST), and at 30 (T2) and 240 min (T3) during the recovery period. Blood samples were taken to determine the horses’ cortisol levels, total WBC, and neutrophil and lymphocyte counts. All variables were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests, with p ≤ 0.05. After training, there was a significant reduction in cortisol (p = 0.0133), HR (p = 0.0283), total WBC (p < 0.0001), and neutrophil (p < 0.0001) and lymphocyte (p = 0.0341) counts. Other findings included an increase in HRV parameters related to a cardiac vagal modulation. In conclusion, the chosen training protocol led to better fitness as the horses worked more intensively with lower cardiovascular requirements, and they showed blunted cortisol responses at M2. Such data can be used to evaluate performance, but also to predict the welfare of athletic horses.

Abstract: Introduction Portugal has one of the highest vaccine coverage rates among European countries, associated with excellent vaccine convenience and confidence levels. Considering both the high rate of pediatric vaccination in Portugal and the excellent indicators of vaccine convenience established, an analysis of confidence and complacency indicators could help understand this positive example. This study aimed to characterize parental beliefs according to the intention to vaccinate a next child and identify cognitive and demographic predictors of that intention in a Portuguese sample. Methods We measured perceptions of vaccines’ safety and efficacy, perceptions of the severity of vaccine-preventable diseases, beliefs related to conspiracy theories, attitudes towards immunization requirements, perceptions of social norms as predictors of the intention to vaccinate a subsequent child. We also inquired if parents had previously refused a recommended vaccine. The authors disseminated the questionnaire online to reach a diverse population of parents of 0–12 years old children. The final sample included 1,118 parents, 96.9% reported their intention to vaccinate the next child, and 3.6% had previously refused a vaccine. Two additional open-ended questions regarding motives to vaccinate or refuse a future baby's vaccination were answered by 886 parents. Results All the evaluated parental cognitive dimensions were significantly different between the group of parents who would vaccinate a next child and those who expressed the intention not to vaccinate. Beliefs about the safety and efficacy of vaccines and having fewer children were significant predictors of that intention. Conclusion The vast majority of parents reported attitudes and beliefs favorable to pediatric vaccination with high consistency in all cognitive dimensions assessed. Concerns regarding pediatric vaccines’ safety need to be sensitively and actively addressed by health providers to maintain excellent vaccination coverage rates.

31. Explaining Individual and Collective Programming Students’ Behavior by Interpreting a Black-Box Predictive Model

Abstract: Predicting student performance as early as possible and analysing to which extent initial student behaviour could lead to failure or success is critical in introductory programming (CS1) courses, for allowing prompt intervention in a move towards alleviating their high failure rate. However, in CS1 performance prediction, there is a serious lack of studies that interpret the predictive model’s decisions. In this sense, we designed a long-term study using very fine-grained log-data of 2056 students, collected from the first two weeks of CS1 courses. We extract features that measure how students deal with deadlines, how they fix errors, how much time they spend programming, and so forth. Subsequently, we construct a predictive model that achieved cutting-edge results with area under the curve (AUC) of.89, and an average accuracy of 81.3%. To allow an effective intervention and to facilitate human-AI collaboration towards prescriptive analytics, we, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, go a step further than the prediction itself and leverage this field by proposing an approach to explaining our predictive model decisions individually and collectively using a game-theory based framework (SHAP), (Lundberg et al., 2020) that allows interpreting our black-box non-linear model linearly. In other words, we explain the feature effects, clearly by visualising and analysing individual predictions, the overall importance of features, and identification of typical prediction paths. This method can be further applied to other emerging competitive models, as the CS1 prediction field progresses, ensuring transparency of the process for key stakeholders: administrators, teachers, and students.

Abstract: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused immeasurable impacts on the health and socioeconomic system. The real-time identification and characterization of new Variants of Concern (VOCs) are critical to comprehend its emergence and spread worldwide. In this sense, we carried out a national epidemiological surveillance program in Brazil from April to October 2021. Genotyping by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and sequencing were performed to monitor the dynamics and dissemination of VOCs in samples from 15 federative units. Delta VOC was first detected on June 2021 and took sixteen weeks to replace Gamma. To assess the transmissibility potential of Gamma and Delta VOCs, we studied the dynamics of RT-qPCR cycle threshold (Ct) score in the dominance period of each variant. The data suggest that Delta VOC has a higher transmission rate than Gamma VOC. We also compared relevant symptom patterns in individuals infected with both VOCs. The Delta-infected subjects were less likely to have low oxygen saturation or fatigue, altered results on chest computed tomography, and a propensity for altered X-rays. Altogether, we described the replacement of Gamma by Delta, Delta enhanced transmissibility, and differences in symptom presentation.

Abstract: Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) can occur as a complication of schistosomiasis. In humans, schistosomiasis-PH persists despite antihelminthic therapy and parasite eradication. We hypothesized that persistent disease arises as a consequence of exposure repetition. Methods: Following intraperitoneal sensitization, mice were experimentally exposed to Schistosoma eggs by intravenous injection, either once or three times repeatedly. The phenotype was characterized by right heart catheterization and tissue analysis. Results: Following intraperitoneal sensitization, a single intravenous Schistosoma egg exposure resulted in a PH phenotype that peaked at 7-14 days, followed by spontaneous resolution. Three sequential exposures resulted in a persistent PH phenotype. Inflammatory cytokines were not significantly different between mice exposed to one or three egg doses, but there was an increase in perivascular fibrosis in those who received three egg doses. Significant perivascular fibrosis was also observed in autopsy specimens from patients who died of this condition. Conclusions: Repeatedly exposing mice to schistosomiasis causes a persistent PH phenotype, accompanied by perivascular fibrosis. Perivascular fibrosis may contribute to the persistent schistosomiasis-PH observed in humans with this disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The lack of in vitro tissue and organ models capable of mimicking human physiology severely hinders the development and clinical translation of therapies and drugs with higher in vivo efficacy. Bioprinting allow us to fill this gap and generate 3D tissue analogues with complex functional and structural organization through the precise spatial positioning of multiple materials and cells. In this review, we report the latest developments in terms of bioprinting technologies for the manufacturing of cellular constructs with particular emphasis on material extrusion, jetting, and vat photopolymerization. We then describe the different base polymers employed in the formulation of bioinks for bioprinting and examine the strategies used to tailor their properties according to both processability and tissue maturation requirements. By relating function to organization in human development, we examine the potential of pluripotent stem cells in the context of bioprinting toward a new generation of tissue models for personalized medicine. We also highlight the most relevant attempts to engineer artificial models for the study of human organogenesis, disease, and drug screening. Finally, we discuss the most pressing challenges, opportunities, and future prospects in the field of bioprinting for tissue engineering (TE) and regenerative medicine (RM).

Abstract: Metabolite profiles of chicken breast extracts and water mobility in breasts were studied using proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectroscopy and time-domain NMR (TD-NMR) relaxometry, respectively, using normal breast (NB), and wooden breast (WB) and white striping (WS) myopathies in broilers. One thousand eight hundred sixty broilers were raised to commercial standards, receiving the same diets that were formulated as per the different growth stages. At 49 D of age, 200 animals were slaughtered following routine commercial procedures, and at 4 h postmortem, the whole breast (pectoralis major muscle) was removed and visually inspected by an experienced meat inspector who selected NB (without myopathies) and samples with the presence of WS and WB myopathies. Fifteen breasts (5 each of NB, WS, and WB) were analyzed through TD-NMR relaxometry, and samples of approximately 20 g were taken from each breast and frozen at −80°C for metabolite profiling through 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Multivariate statistical analysis was used to evaluate the effect on water relaxometry and metabolite profile in accordance with the presence and type of myopathy in the breast. 1H-NMR data showed that the metabolite profiles in WS and WB breasts were different from each other and from NB. This pilot study shows that myopathies appear to be related to hypoxia, connective tissue deposition, lower mitochondrial function, and greater oxidative stress compared with NB. The longitudinal and transverse relaxation time of the breasts determined by TD-NMR relaxometry was shorter for NB than that for WS and WB, indicating greater water mobility in breasts affected by myopathies. 1H-NMR spectroscopy can be used to differentiate the metabolism of WS, WB, and NB, and TD-NMR has the potential to be a fast, simple, and noninvasive method to distinguish NB from WB and WS. As a practical application, the metabolomic profile as per the occurrence of breast myopathies may be used for a better understanding of these issues, which opens a gap to mitigate the incidence and severity of WS and WB. In addition, the present study brings an opportunity for the development of a new and objective tool to classify the incidence of breast myopathies through TD-NMR relaxometry.

36. The Role of Disk Tearing and Precession in the Observed Variability of Pleione

Abstract: We acquired H$\alpha$ spectroscopic observations from 2005 to 2019 showing Pleione has transitioned from a Be phase to a Be-shell phase during this period. Using the radiative transfer code \hdust\ we created a grid of $\sim100,000$ disk models for Pleione. We successfully reproduced the observed transition with a disk model that varies in inclination while maintaining an equatorial density of $\rho_0(r) = 3\times 10^{-11} (r/R_{eq})^{-2.7}~\rm{g~cm^{-3}}$, and an H$\alpha$ emitting region extending to $15~\rm{R_{eq}}$. We use a precessing disk model to extrapolate the changing disk inclination over $120$ years and follow the variability in archival observations. The best-fit disk model precesses over a line of sight inclination between $\sim25\rm{^{\circ}}$ and $\sim144\rm{^{\circ}}$ with a precessional period of $\sim80.5$ years. Our precessing models match some of the observed variability but fail to reproduce all of the historical data available. Therefore, we propose an ad-hoc model based on our precessing disk model inspired by recent SPH simulations of similar systems, where the disk tears due to the tidal influence of a companion star. In this model, a single disk is slowly tilted to an angle of $30^{\circ}$ from the stellar equator over $34$ years. Then, the disk is torn by the companion's tidal torque, with the outer region separating from the innermost disk. The small inner disk returns to the stellar equator as mass injection remains constant. The outer disk precesses for $\sim15$ years before gradually dissipating. 37. Standardization of the Foot Sagittal Axis for Measurement of Hindfoot Alignment Using Weight- Bearing Computed Tomography (WBCT)

Abstract: Category: Hindfoot; Other Introduction/Purpose: The radiographic measurement of hindfoot alignment (HA) suggested by Saltzman, worldwide accepted, uses the medial aspect of the foot as the sagittal axis. When defining the medial face of the foot as its axis, the adduction and abduction deformities of the forefoot are disregarded, making it necessary to rotate the ankle internally or externally to acquire the radiographic image according to Saltzman protocol. The emergence of weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT) allowed immeasurable advancements for a better understanding of the joints relations of the foot and ankle under stress. Previous studies using this technology adopted several sagittal axes to measure HA. Our hypothesis is that the adduction observed in the forefoot of the cavovarus feet illusively accentuates the real deformity of the hindfoot. Methods: Two evaluators calculated the HA of twenty-eight feet - 14 cavovarus and 14 neutral or slightly valgus (control group) - in three different sagittal axes (second metatarsal axis, calcaneus - second metatarsal axis and talar dome axis). Measurements were compared by Student's t-test after normality test by Shapiro-Wilk method. Observers' agreement was evaluated by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). P-values Results: We found excellent intra-observer (0.93) and inter-observer (0.9) agreements following the measuring assessment. The average Foot and Ankle Offset (FAO) of the cavovarus feet group was -3.35 (-0.64 - -7.01), while the control group was 2.01 (-1.3 - 6.4). The mean difference in HA when comparing the axis of the talar dome with the axis of the second metatarsal was 9.88 ° (3.1 ° - 17 °), while in the control group the mean difference was 3.16 (0.2 ° - 7.5 °). All of these data showed statistical significance. Conclusion: As a great variability was observed in the measurements of hindfoot alignment in the cavovarus foot group in the sagittal axes analyzed, this article suggests standardizing the measurement of hindfoot alignment using the talar dome axis. In addition, it becomes possible to quantify adaptations of the hindfoot secondary to modifications of the forefoot in an isolated manner.

Abstract: Pectus excavatum (PE) is the most common abnormality of the thoracic cage, whose severity is evaluated by extracting three indices (Haller, correction and asymmetry) from computed tomography (CT) images. To date, this analysis is performed manually, which is tedious and prone to variability. In this paper, a fully automatic framework for PE severity quantification from CT images is proposed, comprising three steps: (1) identification of the sternum's greatest depression point; (2) detection of 8 anatomical keypoints relevant for severity assessment; and (3) measurements' geometric regularization and extraction. The first two steps rely on heatmap regression networks based on the Unet++ architecture, including a novel variant adapted to predict 1D confidence maps. The framework was evaluated on a database with 269 CTs. For comparative purposes, intra-observer, inter-observer and intra-patient variability of the estimated indices were analyzed in a subset of patients. The developed system showed a good agreement with the manual approach (a mean relative absolute error of 4.41%, 5.22% and 1.86% for the Haller, correction, and asymmetry indices, respectively), with limits of agreement comparable to the inter-observer variability. In the intra-patient analysis, the proposed framework outperformed the expert, showing a higher reproducibility between indices extracted from distinct CTs of the same patient. Abstract: This article discusses the challenges of studying pulmonary hypertension (PH) in animal models, particularly in mice. PH is characterized by elevated pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance, and understanding its pathophysiological mechanisms is difficult due to the diverse clinical conditions associated with the disease. The article highlights the use of combined stimuli to induce experimental PH, similar to the "two-hit" model in humans, where two insults are required to induce clinical disease. The authors attempted to develop a new model of severe and persistent PH in mice by combining surgical pneumonectomy with different stimuli, but the results were essentially negative. The study emphasizes the resilience of mice to PH stimuli compared to rats and humans, but also acknowledges the progress made in the field of PH research through murine studies. The authors suggest considering the addition of multiple concurrent stimuli in future studies to better mimic the complexity of human disease. The article concludes by commending the authors for publishing a well-performed negative result, which adds to the scientific literature and helps other researchers avoid unnecessary efforts in creating the same model. Abstract: Fungi comprise a great diversity of species with distinct ecological functions and lifestyles. Similar to other eukaryotes, fungi rely on interactions with prokaryotes and one of the most important symbiotic events was the acquisition of mitochondria. Mitochondria are organelles found in eukaryotic cells whose main function is to generate energy through aerobic respiration. Mitogenomes (mtDNAs) are double-stranded circular or linear DNA from mitochondria that may contain core genes and accessory elements that can be replicated, transcribed, and independently translated from the nuclear genome. Despite their importance, investigative studies on the diversity of fungal mitogenomes are scarce. Herein, we have evaluated 788 curated fungal mitogenomes available at NCBI database to assess discrepancies and similarities among them and to better understand the mechanisms involved in fungal mtDNAs variability. From a total of 12 fungal phyla, four do not have any representative with available mitogenomes, which highlights the underrepresentation of some groups in the current available data. We selected representative and non-redundant mitogenomes based on the threshold of 90% similarity, eliminating 81 mtDNAs. Comparative analyses revealed considerable size variability of mtDNAs with a difference of up to 260 kb in length. Furthermore, variation in mitogenome length and genomic composition are generally related to the number and length of accessory elements (introns, HEGs, and uORFs). We identified an overall average of 8.0 (0–39) introns, 8.0 (0–100) HEGs, and 8.2 (0–102) uORFs per genome, with high variation among phyla. Even though the length of the core protein-coding genes is considerably conserved, approximately 36.3% of the mitogenomes evaluated have at least one of the 14 core coding genes absent. Also, our results revealed that there is not even a single gene shared among all mitogenomes. Other unusual genes in mitogenomes were also detected in many mitogenomes, such as dpo and rpo, and displayed diverse evolutionary histories. Altogether, the results presented in this study suggest that fungal mitogenomes are diverse, contain accessory elements and are absent of a conserved gene that can be used for the taxonomic classification of the Kingdom Fungi.

42. Highly Porous Composite Scaffolds Endowed with Antibacterial Activity for Multifunctional Grafts in Bone Repair

Abstract: The present study deals with the development of multifunctional biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) scaffolds coated with biopolymers—poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) or poly(ester urea) (PEU)—loaded with an antibiotic drug, Rifampicin (RFP). The amounts of RFP incorporated into the PCL and PEU-coated scaffolds were 0.55 ± 0.04 and 0.45 ± 0.02 wt%, respectively. The in vitro drug release profiles in phosphate buffered saline over 6 days were characterized by a burst release within the first 8h, followed by a sustained release. The Korsmeyer–Peppas model showed that RFP release was controlled by polymer-specific non-Fickian diffusion. A faster burst release (67.33 ± 1.48%) was observed for the PCL-coated samples, in comparison to that measured (47.23 ± 0.31%) for the PEU-coated samples. The growth inhibitory activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus was evaluated. Although the RFP-loaded scaffolds were effective in reducing bacterial growth for both strains, their effectiveness depends on the particular bacterial strain, as well as on the type of polymer coating, since it rules the drug release behavior. The low antibacterial activity demonstrated by the BCP-PEU-RFP scaffold against E. coli could be a consequence of the lower amount of RFP that is released from this scaffold, when compared with BCP-PCL-RFP. In vitro studies showed excellent cytocompatibility, adherence, and proliferation of human mesenchymal stem cells on the BCP-PEU-RFP scaffold surface. The fabricated highly porous scaffolds that could act as an antibiotic delivery system have great potential for applications in bone regeneration and tissue engineering, while preventing bacterial infections.

Abstract: Food innovation and entrepreneurship are important topics in graduate food studies. Students should be challenged to promote an innovative attitude towards their future career in the food industry sector, as professionals working in a small and medium-sized enterprise, or in a large multinational company, or even as entrepreneurs with their own working projects. The present case study shows a curricular unit of a master course that intends to integrate the knowledge on new and sustainable technologies and products, based on seminars of experts on hot topics, on visits to food industry enterprises and market expositions and on the development of a state-of-the-art report about an emergent or novel food technology or product with oral presentation. Hot topic seminars included edible coatings, bioprocessing, allying tradition and innovation in food products, new convenience foods, challenging tests, and new clean and sustainable processes. Entrepreneur alumni lectures were also promoted allowing exchange of experiences. Visits included a high pressure technology unit of a food industry, an innovation and development department of a food industry, an entrepreneurship centre and a food exhibition. A satisfaction survey was made, through the response of a questionnaire by the students, proving the effectiveness and success of this unit course framework. A SWOT analysis was carried out to gain a better understanding of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats involved in the curricular unit objectives.

Abstract: Resistive switching (RS) devices are promising forms of non-volatile memory. However, one of the biggest challenges for RS memory applications is the device-to-device (D2D) variability, which is related to the intrinsic stochastic formation and configuration of oxygen vacancy (VO) conductive filaments (CFs). In order to reduce the D2D variability, control over the formation and configuration of oxygen vacancies is paramount. In this study, we report on the Zr doping of TaO x -based RS devices prepared by pulsed-laser deposition as an efficient means of reducing the VO formation energy and increasing the confinement of CFs, thus reducing D2D variability. Our findings were supported by XPS, spectroscopic ellipsometry and electronic transport analysis. Zr-doped films showed increased VO concentration and more localized VOs, due to the interaction with Zr. DC and pulse mode electrical characterization showed that the D2D variability was decreased by a factor of seven, the resistance window was doubled, and a more gradual and monotonic long-term potentiation/depression in pulse switching was achieved in forming-free Zr:TaO x devices, thus displaying promising performance for artificial synapse applications.

Abstract: Marine organisms are a source of active biomolecules with immense therapeutic and nutraceutical potential. Sulfated fucose-rich polysaccharides are present in large quantities in these organisms with important pharmacological effects in several biological systems. These polysaccharides include sulfated fucan (as fucoidan) and fucosylated chondroitin sulfate. The development of these polysaccharides as new drugs involves several important steps, among them, demonstration of the effectiveness of these compounds after oral administration. The oral route is the more practical, comfortable and preferred by patients for long-term treatments. In the past 20 years, reports of various pharmacological effects of these polysaccharides orally administered in several animal experimental models and some trials in humans have sparked the possibility for the development of drugs based on sulfated polysaccharides and/or the use of these marine organisms as functional food. This review focuses on the main pharmacological effects of sulfated fucose-rich polysaccharides, with an emphasis on the antidislipidemic, immunomodulatory, antitumor, hypoglycemic and hemostatic effects.

Abstract: Actually, the robot programming is still a hard work (Wrn, 1998). Some causes are: difficulty of available equipment reserve to improve it, complex handling, and technologic approach demanded to learn it. This research demonstrates that the manufacturing cell integration can be accelerated, the communication between different platforms of robots can be optimized and costs with specialized people can be reduced. The off-line programming method was created to minimise the integration cell time. But the contemporary off-line programming has not brought significative gains to the manufacture cell integration, also to reduce the robot programmer working hours. The contemporary programming tools to manufacture cells were projected without the necessary abstraction, to generalize the robot programming problem. The available tools present in robot kits, can program and interact only with its platform, files and libraries. The demand grows for a unified tool that interact between different manufacturers solutions, turning easy robot programming to the companies. The development focus creates portable software, capable to write robot programs to different manufacturer's languages. Hence actually, it research is able to extract reference coordinates from a neutral project CAD file, generate motion commands to different robot platforms, through different input interfaces, running over different operating systems. Summarizing the process: ? The points cloud is extracted from a STL file ? The coordinates references are transformed by scaling, translations and rotations matrixes ? The interesting points are selected according the planned task ? The proprietary robot programs are generated ? The program is sent to the robot controller and runs. So, the effective Off-line programming was tested successfully.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-04-06 The advancement of direct ethanol fuel cell (DEFC) represents a real challenge to electrochemical science because ethanol changes significantly the triple phase boundary properties such as the redox reactions and the proton transport. Ethanol molecules promote poor fuel cell performance due to their slow oxidation rate, reduction of the proton transport due to high affinity of ethanol by the membrane, and due to mixed potential when the ethanol molecules reach the cathode by crossover. DEFC performance has been improved by advances in the membranes, e.g., low ethanol crossover polymer composites, or electrode materials, e.g., binary/ternary catalysts. Herein, high temperature (130 °C) DEFC tests were systematically investigated by using optimized electrode and electrolyte materials: Nafion-SiO2 hybrid electrolyte and well-alloyed PtSn/C electrocatalyst. By optimizing both the electrode and the electrolyte in conjunction, DEFCs operating at 130 °C exhibited a threefold increase on performance as compared to standard commercially available materials. Abstract: © 2021 Basto, Calduch-Giner, Oliveira, Petit, Sá, Maia, Fonseca, Matos, Pérez-Sánchez and Valente., [Objective]: This study aims to determine the maximal inclusion level of defatted (d-) Tenebrio molitor larvae meal (TM) able to replace dietary fishmeal (FM) without compromising growth performance, general metabolism, and flesh quality traits in European sea bass, and to evaluate the major underlying physiological mechanisms. [Materials and Methods]: Fish (55 ± 2 g) were fed with diets containing increasing levels of dTM: 0, 40, 80 and 100% (CTRL, TM40, TM80, and TM100, respectively) to replace FM. After 10 weeks of feeding, the growth performance, nutrient and energy balance, intestinal integrity, plasma metabolites and the expression of genes related to growth and nutrient metabolism, in liver and muscle were determined. The fatty acids (FA) profile, textural properties and color were also evaluated in muscle. [Results]: Protein and lipids digestibility remained unaltered up to 80% dTM inclusion. Growth performance parameters were similar among dietary treatments. The dTM inclusion increased the hepatosomatic index in fish fed TM100. Muscle eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated FA levels were maintained up to 80% dTM inclusion, but total cholesterol and non-esterified FA increased with dietary dTM inclusion. In liver, the expression of elongation of very long-chain FA protein 6 (elovl6) and FA desaturase 2 (fads2) did not change in fish fed TM40 and TM80, but elovl6 decreased whilst fads2 increased in fish fed TM100 when compared to those fed CTRL. The expression of cholesterol 7 alpha-monooxygenase (cyp7a1) decreased with dietary dTM inclusion. In muscle, the expression of myoblast determination protein-2 (myod2) decreased in fish fed TM80 and TM100. Abstract: [EN] This study aims to identify the various forms of integration of olive-oil-producing small farms (OSFs) into food systems in four Southern European regions, as well as to identify the most beneficial strategies of integration. Drawing on data from the SALSA Project, the study has found that besides self-provision, OSFs are engaged in multiple types of integration, including reciprocity relations as well as relations with informal and formal markets. Multiple strategies with synergistic effects co-exist at the farm/farm household level. However, specific territorial resources are partially mobilized by actors? strategies; consequently, olive oil identities are valorized on the market to some extent, but less so through positive externalities. Therefore, the unrealized potential of localization of food systems in which OSFs operate is identified., This study draws on material from the Project "SALSA" ("Small farms, small food businesses and sustainable food security"). Abstract: Results are reported from a search for the lepton flavor violating decay tau -> 3 mu in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 33.2 fb(-1) recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016. The search exploits tau leptons produced in both W boson and heavy-flavor hadron decays. No significant excess above the expected background is observed. An upper limit on the branching fraction B(tau -> 3 mu) of 8.0 x 10(-8) at 90% confidence level is obtained, with an expected upper limit of 6.9 x 10(-8).
