Latent Heat Storage (LHS) with Phase-Change Materials (PCMs) represents a high energy density storage technology which could be applied in a variety of applications such as waste heat recovery and integration of renewable energy technologies in energy systems. To increase the sustainability of these storage solutions, PCMs have to be developed with particular regard to bio-origin and biodegradability. Triglycerides represent an interesting class of esters as the main constituents of animal and vegetable fats, with attractive thermal properties. In order to be used as PCMs, the thermal behaviour of triglycerides has to be fully understood, as in some cases they have been reported to show polymorphism and supercooling. This study assesses the suitability of triglycerides as PCMs by reviewing the literature published so far on their behaviour and properties. In particular, melting points, enthalpies of fusion, polymorphism, thermal conductivities, heat capacities and thermal cycling stabilities are considered, with a focus on LHS and thermal energy storage applications. In addition, the efforts conducted regarding modelling and the prediction of melting points and enthalpies based on chemical structures are summarized and assessed.

Given their amphiphilic nature and chemical structure, phospholipids exhibit a strong thermotropic and lyotropic phase behaviour in an aqueous environment. Around the phase transition temperature, phospholipids transform from a gel-like state to a fluid crystalline structure. In this transition, many key characteristics of the lipid bilayers such as structure and thermal properties alter. In this study, we employed atomistic simulation techniques to study the structure and underlying mechanisms of heat transfer in dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) lipid bilayers around the fluid-gel phase transformation. To investigate this phenomenon, we performed non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations for a range of different temperature gradients. The results show that the thermal properties of the DPPC bilayer are highly dependent on the temperature gradient. Higher temperature gradients cause an increase in the thermal conductivity of the DPPC lipid bilayer. We also found that the thermal conductivity of DPPC is lowest at the transition temperature whereby one lipid leaflet is in the gel phase and the other is in the liquid crystalline phase. This is essentially related to a growth in thermal resistance between the two leaflets of lipid at the transition temperature. Flexible electronic devices with skin-like properties are hailed as revolutionary for the development of next-generation electronic devices, such as electric-skin and humanoid robotics. Graphene is intrinsically flexible due to its structural thinness in nature and are considered next-generation materials for wearable electronics. These devices usually experience a large mechanical deformation in use so as to achieve intimate conformal contact with human skin and to coordinate complex human motions, while heat dissipation has been a major limitation when the device is under a large mechanical strain. Unlike the small deformation (<1%) induced by intrinsic material factors such as lattice mismatch between material components in devices, a large mechanical deformation (>1%) by an external loading condition could lead to apparent changes to global geometric shapes and significantly impact thermal transport. In this study, we investigated the thermal conductivities of graphene under several large mechanical strains: 2.9%, 4.3%, and 6.1%. We used a refined opto-thermal Raman technique to characterize the thermal transport properties and discovered the thermal conductivities to be 2092 ± 502, 972 ± 87, 348 ± 52, and 97 ± 13 W/(m K) for the relaxed state, 2.9%, 4.3%, and 6.1% tensile strain, respectively. Our results showed a significant decreasing trend in thermal conductivities with an increasing mechanical strain. The findings in this study reveal new thermal transport mechanisms in 2D materials and shed light on building novel flexible nanoelectronic devices with enhanced thermal management. Bond line thickness (BLT) is an essential parameter of thermal conductive composite gels as the thermal interface material (TIM). Extensive research has been performed on designing next-generation TIMs with high thermal conductivity; however, it remains elusive how to link laboratory measurements and the theoretically predicted BLT. Here, we propose a new model to estimate BLT based on a rheological property, in which the TIM is assumed to be a simple power law fluid. To avoid the unrealistic situation of the BLT tending to zero, we introduce a decaying exponential function to describe the influence from fillers during the lid attach process and rebuild the force balance equation. Compared with previously reported models, the theoretical prediction BLT based on the proposed model is in good agreement with the experimental data. The two-dimensional laser-based Ångstrom method measures the in-plane thermal properties for anisotropic film-like materials. It involves periodic laser heating at the center of a suspended film sample and records its transient thermal response by infrared imaging. These spatiotemporal temperature data must be analyzed to extract the unknown thermal conductivity values in the orthotropic directions, an inverse parameter fitting problem. Previous demonstration of the metrology technique used a least-squares fitting method that relies on numerical differentiation to evaluate the second-order partial derivatives in the differential equation describing transient conduction in the physical system. This fitting approach is susceptible to measurement noise, introducing high uncertainty in the extracted properties when working with noisy data. For example, when noise of a signal-to-noise ratio of 10 is added to simulated amplitude and phase data, the error in the extracted thermal conductivity can exceed 80%. In this work, we introduce a new alternative inverse parameter fitting approach using physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) to increase the robustness of the measurement technique for noisy temperature data. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach even for scenarios with extreme levels of noise in the data. Specifically, the PINN-approach accurately extracts the properties to within 5% of the true values even for high noise levels (a signal-to-noise ratio of 1). This offers a promising avenue for improving the robustness and accuracy of advanced thermal metrology tools that rely on inverse parameter fitting of temperature data to extract thermal properties. The binary high-pressure phase diagram of the Ta–Sb system was constructed for the first time in this study, utilizing the evolutionary algorithm USPEX and density functional theory (DFT). Ten pressurized dynamically and mechanically stable or metastable novel phases of Ta–Sb were discovered, including I4/mmm-TaSb2, P4/nmm-TaSb, P-3-Ta2Sb7, I4/mmm-Ta2Sb3, P-4m2-Ta7Sb, Pm-3-Ta7Sb, Pmm2-Ta15Sb, P4/nmm-TaSb3, I4/mmm-Ta3Sb4, and I4/mmm-Ta2Sb5. The compounds P-4m2-Ta7Sb and Pmm2-Ta15Sb exhibit promising characteristics as non-centrosymmetric superconductors (NCSs), with their superconducting critical temperature (TC) being 3.831 and 3.221 K, respectively. The application of pressure tuning is predicted to transform the topological characteristics of P4/nmm-TaSb, causing it to transition from a topological insulator state to a Dirac semimetal state and ultimately reverting back to a topological insulator state. Therefore, the P4/nmm-TaSb compound is considered a promising candidate to investigate topological and superconducting excitations. Moreover, the mechanical and thermal properties of Ta–Sb binary phases were also investigated. The thermal conductivity of I4/mmm-TaSb2, P4/nmm-TaSb, and P4/nmm-TaSb3 all surpasses 20 W m−1 K−1 at 1000 K, showcasing their excellent thermal conductivity properties. The present study addresses the research gap concerning high-pressure structures in the Ta–Sb binary system, thereby offering valuable insights for the design and development of intermetallic compounds within this binary system. Owing to the unique asymmetric geometry, Janus monolayer compounds exhibit various exotic thermal properties and have promising applications in thermal management. In this study, we combine machine learning potentials and the phonon Boltzmann transport equation to perform a comparative study of the thermal transport properties in Janus XBAlY (X = Se, S, Te; Y = S, Se, O; X ≠ Y) monolayers. Our findings unveil a thermal conductivity (κ p) ranking as SeBAlS > TeBAlO > SBAlSe, contradicting the conventional expectation that a higher κ p is typically observed when the average atomic mass is smaller. At room temperature, the κ p of SeBAlS is 174 Wm−1 K−1, which is 4.8 times that of SBAlSe when considering three-phonon scattering processes. Moreover, the consideration of four-phonon scatterings does not alter such ranking. The anomalous κ p phenomenon was explained through a detailed analysis of the phonon–phonon scattering mechanism, phonon bandgap, phonon anharmonicity, and chemical bond strength. This study highlights the intricate relationship between atomic mass, bonding characteristics, and thermal properties, offering insights for designing Janus materials with tailored thermal conductivity. Hafnia (HfO2) is a potential candidate for the high-k gate dielectrics in next-generation high-power electronics. Its thermal transport properties, which determine the performance of these related high-power electronics, are critical while rarely investigated. Here, the thermal transport properties of HfO2 in a wide temperature range of 300–2000 K with a phase transition between monoclinic and tetragonal phases at ∼1765 K, are systematically studied based on the temperature-dependent effective potential landscapes with both propagating and coherence thermal transport considered. It is found that the cage-like structure of monoclinic HfO2 results in the avoid crossing in the phonon band structures, which increases the three-phonon scattering largely. Some phonon modes with significant scattering matrix can have relatively larger 3ph and 4ph scattering rates in tetragonal HfO2. Consequently, the thermal conductivity of HfO2 is only 11.95–1.72 W/mK at 300–2000 K. Our results further show that propagating phonon channels dominate the thermal transport in HfO2 and contribute at least 70% to the total thermal conductivity. The rest of the thermal conductivity of HfO2 results from the coherence thermal transport channels, which is caused by the overlap of phonons. Four-phonon scatterings are found to be significant for the thermal transport in tetragonal HfO2, which can result in a thermal conductivity reduction of ∼50%. The lattice thermal conductivity (LTC) of Ga 2 O 3 is an important property due to the challenge in the thermal management of high-power devices. In this work, we develop machine-learned neuroevolution potentials (NEPs) for single-crystalline β - Ga 2 O 3 and κ - Ga 2 O 3 and demonstrate their accuracy in modeling thermal transport properties. Combining NEP-driven homogeneous non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations with tensor analysis, we determine the spatial distributions of LTCs for two Ga 2 O 3 crystals, showing dissimilar thermal behaviors. Specifically, β - Ga 2 O 3 shows isotropic thermal transport properties, with the LTCs along [100], [010], and [001] directions being predicted to be 10.3 ± 0.2 , 19.9 ± 0.2 , and 12.6 ± 0.2 W/(m K), respectively, consistent with previous experimental measurements. For κ - Ga 2 O 3 , our predictions suggest nearly isotropic thermal transport properties, with the LTCs along [100], [010], and [001] being estimated to be 4.5 ± 0.1 , 3.9 ± 0.1 , and 4.0 ± 0.1 W/(m K). The reduced LTC of κ -Ga 2 O 3 vs β -Ga 2 O 3 stems from its restricted low-frequency phonons up to 5 THz. Furthermore, we find that the β phase exhibits a typical temperature dependence slightly stronger than ∼ T − 1 , whereas the κ phase shows a weaker temperature dependence, ranging from ∼ T − 0.5 to ∼ T − 0.7 . The carbon nano-peapod is a representative structure with interlayer van der Waals (vdW) interactions, in which encapsulated fullerene molecules play a critical role in modulating the transport properties of the carbon nanotubes (CNTs). In particular, their influence on the thermal transport characteristics has been the focal point of considerable attention. In this study, we trained an accurate machine learning potential for fullerene-encapsulated CNTs based on the efficient NEP model to investigate their thermal properties. Using equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation along with the spectral decomposition method for thermal conductivity, we find that the thermal conductivity of fullerene-encapsulated CNTs is roughly 55 % lower than that of empty CNTs, aligning with experimental observations for CNT bundles with fullerene encapsulation [Kodama et al., Nat. Mater. 16, 892 (2017)]. The research suggests that weak vdW interactions between both the fullerene and CNTs, as well as between fullerene molecules themselves, hinder phonon propagation. The encapsulated fullerene contributes to an increase in phonon scattering within the CNTs, ultimately leading to a reduction in thermal conductivity. We utilized machine learning potential to investigate the structure of fullerene-encapsulated CNTs and their heat transport property. When an impurity with a light mass is inserted into a crystal, it can undergo a high-frequency oscillation referred to as a local vibrational mode (LVM). A Fermi resonance may occur between the LVM and lower-frequency modes of the defect. The LVM may also interact with phonons or the electromagnetic field. Understanding these interactions can help model and control diffusion, defect reactions, and thermal conductivity. LVMs have been probed in semiconductors using pressure and alloying as experimental parameters, resulting in anticrossing between localized and extended vibrational modes. These types of vibrational interactions could play an important role in the stability and thermal properties of organic–inorganic hybrid semiconductors. Time-domain thermoreflectance (TDTR) and frequency-domain thermoreflectance techniques have been widely used to measure thermal properties. However, the existence of the metal sensor brings some limitations to the experimental measurement, such as temperature limits, disability to measure low in-plane thermal conductivity, in situ measurement cannot be achieved, etc. This paper proposes a transducerless time-domain thermoreflectance method to measure in- and cross-plane thermal conductivity of nanofilms, in which the optical absorption depth and thermal conductivity tensor are considered to establish a new differential equation that can describe the heat conduction process in multilayer structures. This thermal model can also calculate the effects of spot ellipticity and spot offset distance. Then, the analytical solution and relative deviation of this new model and the surface heat flow boundary model used in conventional TDTR are compared by calculating the phase signals. In terms of experimental measurement, this model is successfully used to derive cross- and in-plane thermal conductivity of PdSi and IrNiTa amorphous alloy nanofilms without a metal sensor. Cordierite-mullite composite ceramics were prepared by solid-state method using Panzhihua low-grade Ti-rich clay, talc, and alumina. Influences of cordierite/mullite ratio, sintering temperature, and the chemical composition of clay on the phase composition, microstructure, physical properties, and thermal properties were investigated in detail. The results showed that the impurity oxides inside the Ti-rich clay had a great ability of forming liquid. Above 1300 °C, the reaction between TiO 2 of the clay and Al 2 O 3 produced stable Al 2 TiO 5 , which was conducive to decreasing the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). At 1300–1350 °C, the secondary mullitization caused the volumetric expansion, decreasing the bending strength and increasing the CTE. The optimum ratio of cordierite to mullite ranged from 90:10 to 80:20, and the sample fired at 1400 °C exhibited the lowest water absorption and porosity (0.64 % and 1.56 %, respectively), optimal bulk density, and bending strength (2.59 g cm−3 and 87.79 MPa), as well as better CTE, thermal conductivity, and thermal storage density (2.91 × 10−6 °C−1, 4.11 W/(m⋅K) (30 °C), and 1181 kJ kg−1, respectively). Compared with the reported values of cordierite-based thermal storage ceramics prepared by using the high-grade clay or minerals, the obtained samples showed the advantages such as lower costs for raw materials, higher bending strength, higher thermal conductivity (1.63–2 times higher), low CTE, and high thermal storage density. In the domain of personal thermal protection, there is a growing demand for lightweight and efficient ceramic thermal insulation materials. However, conventional ceramic membranes face challenges such as brittleness, structural collapse, and pulverization, hindering their practical application. To address this issue, aluminum hydroxide-enhanced silica-zirconia ceramic membranes (SZ@ANFMs) have been successfully fabricated using electrospinning followed by subsequent calcination processes, and their properties have been comprehensively evaluated. The results demonstrate that SZ@ANFMs exhibit outstanding high-temperature resistance under an alcohol lamp, along with an extremely low thermal conductivity (only 0.041 W/m·K), excellent tensile strength (2.3 MPa), and flexible characteristics. This makes them highly promising in the domain of personal thermal protection. In this study, composite phase change materials (CPCMs) comprising hexadecylamine (HDA) (C 16 H 35 N), disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate (DHPD) (Na 2 HPO 4 ·12H 2 O), and expanded graphite (EG) were prepared using the demulsification method. These CPCMs exhibit high latent heat and stable thermal properties. This approach effectively mitigates the issues of substantial supercooling and poor thermal conductivity commonly associated with DHPD and HDA. Additionally, the inclusion of EG imparts superior morphological stability to the CPCMs. The HDA/DHPD/EG CPCMs demonstrated robust thermal and morphological stability at temperatures below 100 °C. Their latent heat reached up to 221 J/g and remained stable at this value even after 50 cold-heat cycles, thereby indicating excellent cycling stability. When EG was incorporated at 2 wt%, the thermal conductivity of the HDA/DHPD/EG CPCMs increased to 0.751 W/(m·K), indicating that the three-dimensional network structure of EG facilitates heat conduction and offers exceptional photothermal conversion capabilities, with a photothermal conversion efficiency of up to 97.1 %. BiCuSeO, an oxide thermoelectric material with a superlattice structure, presents the advantages of affordability, low toxicity, and environmental friendliness. However, its intrinsic low electrical conductivity has impeded its possible applications. To address this challenge, we put tiny PbZr 0.52 Ti 0.48 O 3 (PZT) with varying weight percentages (x = 0, 5, 7, 9, 11) into BiCuSeO (BCSO) to fabricate thermoelectric nanocomposites. Through the spark plasma sintering process, PZT particles underwent in-situ decomposition, generating nano-sized second phases such as PbO 2 , TiO 2 , and PbZrO 3 , which are homogenously distributed within BCSO matrix (validated by XRD and TEM). The introduced PbO 2 , TiO 2 , and PbZrO 3 second phases served a dual purpose: inhibiting the grain growth of BCSO and introducing additional nano-grain boundaries. This resulted in more effective phonon scattering sites, thereby reducing lattice thermal conductivity. Simultaneously, the Pb element derived from PZT decomposition was doped into the Bi site of the BCSO matrix, causing a reduction in the band gap of BCSO from 0.49 eV to 0.388 eV and a significant increase in carrier concentration. Consequently, this doping enhanced the electrical conductivity of BCSO-based composites, with the composite with 11 wt% PZT additive amount exhibiting a remarkable 318-fold increase, reaching 550 S/cm compared to pristine BCSO. Notably, the composite with 7 wt% PZT additive amount achieved an exceptionally low lattice thermal conductivity of 0.333 W m−1 K−1 at 823 K. Through the synergistic optimization of electrical and thermal transport properties, the BCSO-based composite with 7 wt% PZT additive amount obtained a ZT value of ∼0.9 at 873 K, representing a 2.45-fold increase compared to pristine BiCuSeO. This straightforward method presents a cost-effective and scalable approach to enhance the thermoelectric performance of various materials, opening new avenues for potential commercial applications. The current market's imperative demand necessitates the research and development of advanced polymer composites, especially those incorporating nanofillers. Carbon nanotubes, in particular, have attracted significant attention within research and development for their potential in creating multifunctional composites. This study aims to evaluate the impact of incorporating carbon nanotube buckypapers (BP) on the thermal and electrical properties of poly (aryl ether ketone) (PAEK)/glass fiber (GF) composites. The BP was prepared through vacuum filtration and integrated into PAEK/GF composites with varying stacking sequences, followed by hot compression processing. The degradation behavior of the laminates was investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The viscoelastic properties, evaluated by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), suggested an increase in stiffness with the inclusion of BP in two of the analyzed stacking sequences. Thermal conductivity, measured via the pulse laser method, showed results comparable to the base laminate (0.153 W/m·K). Meanwhile, electrical conductivity, assessed using the four‐point probe method in the in‐plane direction, revealed semiconductor properties, achieving a mean value of 3.162 S/cm for one of the samples, indicating electrical anisotropy within the multifunctional composite material. Glass foams and glass-ceramic foams exhibit great potential in thermal insulation of buildings, consequently reducing the necessity for heating or cooling, and ultimately contributing to energy saving. In this study, we prepared glass-ceramic foams utilizing silicate glass as starting material and CaCO 3 as foaming agent through a thermochemical process. Foams with varying degrees of relative crystallinity were produced by controlling temperature and duration of isothermal heat treatment. The foaming mechanism in the glass-ceramics was discussed by analyzing how the heat flow, mass, and volume evolve within the powder mixture during dynamic heating. The crystallization in glass did not show any clear trend on the compressive strength of glass foams. On the other hand, the thermal conductivity of the glass-ceramic foams increases with increasing relative crystallinity. The calculated solid thermal conductivity exhibited a minimum at low relative crystallinity (<20 %). These findings are crucial for designing high performance glass-ceramic foams for thermal insulation, potentially also for fabricating glass-ceramic foams using waste glasses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Thermal protection was always a prominent issue in the aerospace industry. For vehicle safety, reliability and payload requirements, thermal protection materials were usually expected to possess low density, superior mechanical and thermal insulation properties. Here, lightweight and high-strength porous mullite-silica ceramics were manufactured using particle-stabilized foaming technique. The strength and thermal insulation properties of porous ceramics modified with hollow silica spheres were significantly enhanced. A 10 wt% hollow spheres addition achieved a 28.9 % increase in strength and a 33.4 % decrease in thermal conductivity with almost constant porosity (from 86.39 % to 87.04 %). Considering the characteristics of light weight, high compression strength and superior thermal insulation performance, porous ceramics could be applied as thermal protection materials in the aerospace sector. Porous high-entropy transition metal compounds, an important type of ultra-high temperature material, have attracted increasing attention in the applications of extreme environments due to their low density, good thermal insulation and stable chemical properties. A robust, flame-retardant and high-temperature resistant high-entropy carbonitride (Ti 1/5 V 1/5 Mo 1/5 Nb 1/5 Ta 1/5)(C 0.55 N 0.45) (HECN) porous ceramic was synthesized and thoroughly characterized. It exhibited a porosity of 93.5 %, a compressive strength of 1.3 MPa and a good high-temperature stability up to 1673 K, which, along with its outstanding fire-retardancy, and low thermal conductivity (as low as 0.150 W m−1 K−1 at 298 K), made it a good candidate material for thermal insulation applications in ultra-high temperature environments. Moreover, the Density functional theory (DFT) calculations predict that the [N]/([C]+[N]) ratio in HECN foam affects its lattice thermal conductivity which is decreased by 67 % upon increasing the ratio from 0 to 1/2. ABSTRACT Low‐temperature densification of alumina using calcium vanadate (CaV2O6, CV) having a similar dielectric constant as a liquid‐forming additive has been studied. The alumina‒CV composites containing 20‒40 vol.% CV achieve ∼94% of theoretical density at low temperatures of 1100°C‒900°C by liquid‐phase sintering. A reduction in the average size of grains from .87 to .42 µm with a surge in CV amount from 20 to 40 vol.% is observed. The permittivity decreases from 9.2 to 8.90, and the dielectric loss increases from 2.154 × 10‒3 to 4.761 × 10‒3 when the amount of CV in the alumina‒CV composite rises from 20 to 40 vol.%. The temperature coefficient of resonance frequency, thermal expansion coefficient, and thermal conductivity of the alumina‒CV composites are observed in the ranges of ‒54 to ‒72 ppm °C‒1, 6.94‒7.32 ppm °C‒1, and 13.78‒8.02 W m‒1 K‒1, respectively. The compatibility of the composites with Ag for low‐temperature co‐fired ceramics (LTCC) application is established through co‐sintering and energy‐Dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy line spectra analysis. The low‐temperature densification, acceptable range of dielectric and thermal properties, and silver compatibility make the alumina‒CV composite a candidate for LTCC application. New C/SiC composites with continuous fibers were produced through impregnation of carbon fiber preforms and consolidation by hot pressing. The resulting sintered material was investigated as a potential target for nuclear applications, such as radioisotope production. Desired properties include high porosity and high thermal conductivity to allow isotope release from the targets while working at high temperature. To this end, porosimetry and thermal and mechanical characterizations were conducted up to 1250°C. It was shown that the addition of fibers resulted in high porosity, about 40%, while maintaining a very high thermal conductivity, 40 W/m∙K at 1250°C, a value particularly attractive for the intended application. Emissivity at 1250°C was 0.76, compressive strength at room temperature was 134 MPa, and flexural strength passed from about 90 MPa before thermal conductivity measurements to 50 MPa after the tests. During the machining of Inconel 718 using SiAlON ceramics, the tool life can be significantly influenced by diffusion wear. To investigate this crucial wear behavior, this study focuses on the thermochemical interactions in the diffusion couple between SiAlON ceramics and Inconel 718 superalloy. So, we examine the microstructural characteristics and phase formation behavior in the reacted layer between these two materials. The interfaces between these two materials exhibit distinguishable elemental contrasts and phase formations. Particularly, the phases indicate vitrification or devitrification in the diffusion layer, influenced by the chemical composition. This issue in the diffusion couple was analyzed with thermophysical properties using light flash analysis (LFA). After, it was confirmed that the vitrification of the diffusion layer can be induced by the conduction behavior of heat trapped between SiAlON and Inconel 718 during supercooling. These characterizations verify that the devitrification of the welding layer (diffusion layer), resulting from the reaction between SiAlON ceramics and Inconel 718 superalloy, can depend on the thermal conductivity of the prepared ceramics. The continuous updating and iteration of electronic devices brings about a significant accumulation of heat. It is urgent to enhance the thermal properties of polymer‐based composites to alleviate the heat dissipation problem in the microelectronics industry. In this paper, the hot drawing process was introduced to increase the crystallinity of ultra‐high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber and improve its thermal conductivity. The ultra‐high molecular weight polyethylene fiber/epoxy resin (UHMWPE fiber/Epoxy) composites with high thermal conductivity were prepared by compositing UHMWPE fiber with epoxy resin under vacuum conditions. Due to the good crystallinity of the UHMWPE fiber (86%), an efficient thermal conduction path is provided for phonons in the axial direction along the fibers. The results show that the thermal conductivity of the composites reaches a maximum of 3.51 W/mK (in‐plane), which is 17.47 times higher than that of the epoxy resin (0.19 W/mK). The thermography pictures indicate that the composites have better heat transfer capacity with an increase in the draw ratio (λ). In addition, the composites also have the characteristics of low density and low electrical conductivity. These researches will provide a new idea for the preparation of all‐polymer composites with high thermal properties. Carbon fiber reinforced epoxy resin matrix composite is one of the most important composite materials in the world. Many researchers have conducted a lot of research on epoxy resin matrix systems in recent years, mainly to improve the problem with the short curing time of the matrix system and epoxy resin's high viscosity. The final aim is to enhance various aspects of composites' performance and optimize the production process. A new type of water dispersed epoxy resin matrix system is investigated in this paper and the target is to optimize the mechanical, thermal, and electrical performances of the composites with the water dispersed epoxy resin matrix by varying different doping particles and different resin/catalyst ratios. Through a series of experiments, it is evident that varying the ratio of resin to catalyst in the matrix system will not significantly improve the mechanical as well as thermal properties of the composites. However, increasing the amount of catalyst in the matrix system can greatly improve the electrical properties of its composite samples. In addition to this, the addition of doping particles to the matrix systems has the effect of slightly enhancing the tensile modulus, thermal conductivity, and electrical conductivity of their composites. Fluorine rubber (FKM) stands as a pivotal sealing material extensively employed in aerospace and nuclear industries. However, its efficacy will be seriously affected by ionizing radiation. Enhancing its radiation resistance becomes imperative to uphold the stability and safety of associated equipment. This study introduced hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN) into the FKM as radioprotective fillers through mechanical blending. The interfacial interaction between matrix and h‐BN, the mechanical performances, thermal properties, and radiation stability of composites were systematically examined. Noteworthy findings highlight the presence of robust interaction forces between h‐BN and the matrix, leading to increased crosslink density and improved mechanical properties. The tensile strength of composite with 10 phr fillers (BN/FKM‐10) increased by 30% compared to that of pure FKM. Simultaneously, the introduction of h‐BN greatly enhanced thermal conductivity and radiation stability. The absorbed dose required to achieve a 50% reduction in elongation at break of BN/FKM‐10 surpassed that of FKM by 1.69 times. These results underscore the potential of incorporating h‐BN to simultaneously enhance the mechanical performance, thermal property, and radiation resistance of fluorine rubber. Highlights Increasing miniaturization and integration of microelectronic devices have led to an unprecedented attention on heat dissipation and signal transmission of electronic equipment. However, the mostly used method to enhance the thermal conductivity of polymers by adding thermally conductive fillers usually results in the increase of dielectric constant (Dk). It was still challenging to synergistically achieve low Dk and high thermal conductivity of polymer‐matrix composites. Herein, hydroxylated boron nitride nanosheet (BNNS‐OH) with a high yield of 35.67% was prepared by the liquid ultrasonic exfoliation under the assistance of sodium cholate (SC), and grafted with (1H,1H,2H,2H‐perfluorodecyl) trimethoxy silane to prepare fluorinated boron nitride nanosheets (F‐BNNS), which can uniformly disperse in liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and reduce the Dk of LSR composites. The thermal conductivity of LSR composites with 20 wt% F‐BNNS reached 0.489 W·m−1·K−1, showing an increase of 307.35% in comparison with pure LSR (0.12 W·m−1·K−1). Meantime, the Dk of as‐obtained LSR/F‐BNNS (20 wt%) composites is reduced from 3.4 to 2.6, and the dielectric loss (Df) is less than 0.012. The facile and rational design of fluorinated BNNS offers a new insight for the high‐end electronic packaging materials. A new method of exfoliation and fluorinated treatment of h‐BN was proposed. Here, we propose a sensing scheme based on an all-dielectric metamaterial with the smooth reflection and transmission spectral lines in 10-60THz, and verify the applications of the measuring the resonance characteristics of Xuan paper samples. The reflection and thermal conductivity of Xuan paper samples enhance with the concentration of alum water increasing and weaken due to the thickness increasing. This work addresses the problem of obtaining of Ca 3 Co 4 O 9+δ -based ceramics with enhanced thermoelectric performance. Phase-inhomogeneous layered calcium cobaltite ceramics with cationic nonstoichiometry were prepared by solid-state reactions method and a field assisted sintering technology (FAST). Comprehensive experimental characterizations were conducted on the prepared bulk samples, focusing on their phase composition, as well as thermal (including thermal expansion, thermal diffusivity, and thermal conductivity), electrical (encompassing electrical conductivity and the Seebeck coefficient), and functional properties (such as power factor and figure-of-merit). The FAST technique allowed to obtain ceramics with low porosity and high electrical conductivity, which increased as the Ca:Co ratio within the samples decreased, while sample phase inhomogeneity considerably increased the Seebeck coefficient. In the present research, the impacts of Ce additions at various concentrations (0, 1.0, 3.4, and 4.0 wt.%) on the evolution of the microstructure, mechanical properties, and thermal conductivity of as-cast and as-extruded Mg-3Sn alloys were investigated. The findings demonstrate that adding Ce caused the creation of a new ternary MgSnCe phase in the magnesium matrix. Some new Mg17Ce2 phases are generated in the microstructure when Ce levels reach 4%. The thermal conductivity of the Mg-3Sn alloy is significantly improved due to Ce addition, and the Mg-3Sn-3.4Ce alloy exhibits the highest thermal conductivity, up to 133.8 W/(m·K) at 298 K. After extrusion, both the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties are further improved. The thermal conductivity perpendicular to the extrusion direction of Mg-3Sn-3.4Ce alloy could achieve 136.28 W/(m·K), and the tensile and yield strengths reach 264.3 MPa and 227.2 MPa, with an elongation of 7.9%. Adding Ce decreases the dissolved Sn atoms and breaks the eutectic α-Mg and Mg2Sn network organization, leading to a considerable increase in the thermal conductivity of as-cast Mg-3Sn alloys. Thermal and electrical properties were investigated for five nominally phase‐pure high entropy carbide ceramics. The compositions (Hf0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C, (Cr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C, (Hf0.2Mo0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C, (Hf0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2W0.2Zr0.2)C, and (Hf0.2Mo0.2Ti0.2W0.2Zr0.2)C were synthesized by carbothermal reduction of oxides. The thermal diffusivity and heat capacity were measured from room temperature to 1800°C. The room temperature thermal conductivity ranged from 5.1 W/mK for (Hf0.2Mo0.2Ti0.2W0.2Zr0.2)C to 9.0 W/mK for (Cr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C. The thermal conductivity increased over the temperature range with maximum conductivities of 19.6 W/mK measured for (Hf0.2Mo0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C to 29.7 W/mK for (Cr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2Zr0.2)C at 1800°C. The electron contribution to thermal conductivity calculated from measured electrical resistivity varied from 41% to 52% of the total thermal conductivity. The tungsten and molybdenum containing compositions had higher phonon contributions while the niobium and chromium containing compositions had nearly equal electron and phonon contributions to thermal conductivity. YBCO openwork structures were 3D-printed as cuboids with 4.5 × 4.5 × 2 mm dimensions and various filling degrees. Initial pycnometric data showed a slight variation in specimen densities (∼6.153 g/cm3), proving the production process uniformity. The consistency of YBCO superconducting phase (Y-123) was confirmed by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Microstructural and chemical homogeneity was proven by scanning electron microscopy with microprobe analysis. Transport (electrical and thermal) measurements accompanied by simulations of magnetic flux density at the produced structures revealed that they are heavily dependent of filling ratio and geometry. Additionally, this work proves that the 3D printing is an excellent method of fabricating high-quality superconducting structures of desired shapes accordingly to applicational demands. High-entropy ceramics have garnered significant attention in recent years owing to their exceptional properties and structural diversity. In this work, single-phase medium/high entropy ceramics, namely (Ca 0.2 Sr 0.4 Ba 0.4)(Zr 0.5 Ti 0.5)O 3 and (Ca 0.2 Sr 0.4 Ba 0.4)(Zr 0.1 Ti 0.9)O 3 , were successfully designed and prepared utilizing Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). A comprehensive investigation was conducted into the phase structure, microscopic morphology, dielectric properties, and thermal behavior of these ceramics. It was observed that all ceramics maintained a cubic perovskite structure (space group: Pm 3 ‾ m), and the introduction of multi-element doping rendered them more stable across a wide frequency and temperature range. Notably, (Ca 0.2 Sr 0.4 Ba 0.4)(Zr 0.5 Ti 0.5)O 3 exhibited remarkably low dielectric loss (0.0001 at 1 kHz) at room temperature, along with excellent dielectric temperature stability (25–400 °C). By reducing the zirconium concentration in (Ca 0.2 Sr 0.4 Ba 0.4)(Zr 0.1 Ti 0.9)O 3 , a slight decrease in dielectric temperature stability was observed (25–350 °C); however, it demonstrated lower thermal conductivity (0.41 W/(m·K), 1200 °C) and maintained good high-temperature stability. Aluminum nitride (AlN), prized for its high thermal conductivity and electronic insulating properties, finds widespread use in electronic applications, particularly as a substrate material. However, its relatively low fracture toughness limits its application. In this study, to enhance both the thermal and mechanical properties of AlN ceramics, we thoroughly investigate the microstructure, thermal, and mechanical properties of self-reinforced AlN ceramics fabricated by spark plasma sintering, with self-reinforcement achieved through the integration of AlN whiskers within the AlN matrix. Unlike previous studies utilizing conventional pressureless sintering with limited sintering conditions, this work employs spark plasma sintering with a wide range of temperatures (1600–1900 °C) and holding times (10–30 min), providing a comprehensive understanding of the sintering behavior. Microstructural features, observed through optical and scanning electron microscopy, reveal distinct toughening mechanisms via crack deflection and branching, with a maximum 20% enhancement. The self-reinforced AlN ceramics exhibit remarkable improvements in thermal conductivity, reaching up to 150 W m−1 K−1, surpassing reported values for spark plasma-sintered AlN ceramics. Adding AlN whiskers enhances the thermal and mechanical properties of AlN simultaneously, particularly at 1800 °C for 10 min with controlled grain size and nicely integrated AlN whiskers. This work not only contributes valuable insights into the complex relationship between processing parameters, microstructure, and resulting thermal and mechanical properties but also highlights the enhanced thermal and mechanical properties of self-reinforced AlN ceramics. Multi-layered graphene and graphene oxide have been used as reinforcements in nanodevices and nanocomposites due to their extraordinary mechanical and thermal properties. However, compared to graphene, graphene oxide has a lower Young's modulus and lower thermal conductivity. Nanodevices and nanocomposites based on multi-layered graphene and graphene oxide require different mechanical properties and thermal conductivity. This study employed molecular dynamics simulation to investigate 10 models of multi-layered graphene and graphene oxide (in the form of different layer arrangements) in single, double, and triple layers. The results showed that an increase in the number of graphene oxide layers leads to irregularities in the nanosheets, resulting in decreased thermal conductivity (by 64.4%) of the nanosheets decreases. Furthermore, the greater number of graphene layers in multi-layer nanosheets resulted in an increase in Young's modulus (by 79.3%) and tensile strength (by 73.7%). Moreover, the arrangement of graphene and graphene oxide is a crucial factor that can significantly impact the mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of the models. Moreover, an increase in temperature can lead to a decrease in Young's modulus of multilayered nanosheets. Ternary half-Heusler (HH) alloys are under intense investigations recently towards achieving high thermoelectric (TE) figure-of-merit (ZT). Of particular interest is the ZrNiPb-based HH alloy, where an optimal value of ZT ~ 0.7 at 773 K has been achieved by co-doping Sn and Bi at Pb site. In this work, we identify an excellent ZT of 1.3 in ZrNi1+xPb0.38Sn0.6Bi0.02 (x = 0.03, at 773 K) composite alloy. This is achieved by synergistic modulation of electronic as well as thermal properties via introduction of minor phase of full-Heusler (FH) in the HH matrix through compositional tuning approach. These Ni-rich ZrNi1+xPb0.38Sn0.6Bi0.02 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.07) alloys were synthesized via energy efficient and time-curbed techniques that involved Arc melting followed by consolidation via spark plasma sintering. These alloys were characterized by XRD and SEM, which show formation of nanocomposites comprising of HH matrix phase and FH secondary minor phases. Enhancement in ZT is mainly attributed to a synchronized increase in power factor (~42%) and ~25% decrease in its thermal conductivity. Here, TE compatibility factor (S) was also calculated for all samples. The value of |S| ~ 2.7 V−1 (at 773 K) is observed for x = 0.03, which is ~17% higher than bare HH composition (x = 0.0). The theoretically calculated TE device efficiency of best-performing sample ZrNi1.03Pb0.38Sn0.6Bi0.02 is estimated to be η ~ 13.6%. Our results imply that deliberately controlled fine tuning in compositions of HH compounds through compositional tuning approach would lead to novel off-stoichiometric HH phases with enhanced ZT value for efficient TE device fabrication. The energy consumption of buildings presents a significant concern, which has led to a demand for materials with better thermal performance. Thermal conductivity (TC), among the most relevant thermal properties, is essential to address this demand. This study introduces a methodology integrating a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) to predict the TC of concrete based on its mass composition and density. Three scenarios using experimental data from published papers and synthetic data are compared and reveal the model's outstanding performance across training, validation, and test datasets. Notably, the MLP trained on the GAN-augmented dataset outperforms the one with the real dataset, demonstrating remarkable consistency between the model's predictions and the actual values. Purpose: In everyday life, people generally wear two layers of clothes (a knitted vest and a knitted t-shirt) during the summer. It is essential to understand which types of innerwear and outerwear maximize comfort. The primary objective of this research is to investigate the influence of layering outerwear on innerwear, as well as the air gap between two layers, on thermal comfort properties. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, a total of 12 combinations were created from four vest fabrics and three T-shirt fabrics. The thermal properties (thermal conductivity, thermal resistance, thermal absorptivity, thermal diffusion and peak heat flow) were evaluated for the individual inner and outer layers. Each inner layer was layered with an outer layer to observe the effect of layering on the thermal properties. An air gap of 2 mm was introduced between the inner and outer layers to study the effect of air gap on thermal properties. Findings: Tencel fibre exhibits higher thermal conductivity and absorptivity than cotton and polyester. Upon layering an outer layer on an inner layer, the thermal conductivity and thermal absorptivity increase to a slight extent, thermal resistance and diffusion increase drastically and the peak heat flow reduces. With an air gap between the two layers, the thermal conductivity did not improve, the difference in thermal resistance among all the combinations reduced, the thermal absorptivity of the combination textiles was lower than that of the innerwear alone, the thermal diffusion increased and the peak heat flow diminished for all the combinations. Practical implications: In practice, this comprehensive thermal comfort analysis provides specific combinations of inner and outer articles of clothing that are most appropriate for enhancing comfort during the summer season. This paper presents an experimental and numerical study of the freezing-thawing behavior of water in fully saturated sand. A relatively inexpensive and easily replicable experimental procedure was developed to simulate the freezing-thawing cycles in a medium-sized sand sample placed in a modified commercial freezer. By insulating the sides and bottom of the sample well, while allowing good thermal conductivity at the top of the sample, a nearly vertical advance of the freezing and thawing front was achieved. A series of freeze-thaw cycles were performed with higher and lower temperature gradients. A numerical multiphysics model, assuming an axially symmetric geometry based on the transient heat transfer during the phase transition, used a parametric approach to estimate the effective thermal properties of the sand-water-ice system. A good agreement between experimental and modelling results was shown, but slightly different parameter sets were obtained for each temperature gradient. Lattice vibrations or phonons play an important role in determining material properties, including thermal conductivity. To model the phenomenon accurately and efficiently, the most important factors governing phonon physics need to be identified, for example, polarization branches. Research continues into many aspects of the fundamental physical processes involved in phonons and into possible applications of these processes in modern physics. One of the most interesting controversies in the thermal properties of graphene involves the importance of out-of-plane acoustic phonons. The need for clarity in understanding this importance dictates that the thermal conductivity of graphene should be evaluated in various circumstances. The nanoscale heat conduction properties of graphene are studied by iteratively solving the Boltzmann transport equation and rigorously treating the normal and Umklapp collisions in the frame of three-phonon interactions. This captures the mechanistic aspects of thermal conductivity by revealing what phonon branches are present. The thermal conductivity is evaluated in different crystallite sizes and at different frequencies and temperatures. The results indicated that out-of-plane acoustic phonons become increasingly important in the frame of three-phonon interactions. The out-of-plane acoustic branch dominates thermal transport whereas the other acoustic branches make small contributions. The importance of this branch is generally attributed to the high density of states and restrictions governing anharmonic effects. The three-phonon normal and Umklapp processes must be clearly accounted for and the contribution from optical branches is not negligible at higher temperatures. Silicene has recently been revisited as a 2D material with potential thermoelectric applications. Here, the thermal properties of supported silicene are determined by optothermal Raman spectroscopy. Single and multilayer silicene is grown either directly on silver (Ag) substrates or on an intermediate tin (Sn) monolayer, introduced to reduce the influence of the substrate on the physical properties of silicene. Experimental values of an effective cross‐plane thermal conductivity of 0.5 W/mK are obtained for silicene on Ag and 0.3 W/mK for silicene on stanene‐Ag. The values of the interfacial thermal conductance, on the other hand, are 0.3 and 0.5 GW/m2K, respectively. The continuous upgrading of electronic technology has facilitated the integration and miniaturization of electronic and electrical equipment, as well as putting great pressure on the multifunctional demand for internal materials. Developing insulating materials with both low permittivity and high thermal conductivity has become imperative. This perspective focuses on polyimide (PI), which is the top material of the polymer material pyramid, discusses the characteristic parameters that affect its dielectric property and thermal conductivity. A series of basic schemes to regulate the dielectric/thermal properties of PI are summarized, revealing the bottlenecks and drawbacks of the current research. Future development trends of PIs featured low permittivity-high thermal conductivity are anticipated, and novel ideas are proposed for the development of new generation of multifunctional PIs. The conventional theory based on the phonon gas model, which treats thermal transport as particle‐like behavior, shows limitations to describe the unusual thermal transport property in some halide perovskites with strong anharmonicity. Here, the significance of phonon coherence effect on thermal transport of bismuth‐halide perovskite Cs3Bi2Br9 is reported by inelastic neutron scattering and simulations including density functional theory and machine‐learning potential based molecular dynamics. This study shows that the restrictive low‐energy acoustic phonons lead to the limited particle‐like thermal conductivity, which seriously underestimates the lattice thermal conductivity of Cs3Bi2Br9. The significant contribution of wave‐like optical phonon modes, driven by the coherence effect, accounts for an additional ≈50% wave‐like thermal conductivity. Besides, the experimental weak temperature dependence of thermal conductivity along z direction (κ ≈T−0.35) is well reproduced by calculation (κ ≈T−0.37) when including phonon coherence. This work highlights the critical role of phonon coherence in Cs3Bi2Br9 and enhances understanding on the unusual thermal transport properties in halide perovskites and other related materials with strong anharmonicity. While improving the thermal conductivity of composites, single‐size carbon nanotubes (CNT) often degrade their mechanical properties due to the agglomerates. To overcome this limitation, this study reported thermoplastic resin matrix composites synergistically reinforced with small, medium, and large‐size carbon nanotubes (S‐CNT, M‐CNT, and L‐CNT). Using the thermal conductivity (λ) and mechanical properties (flexural strength [F], compressive strength [C] and tensile strength [T]) as the response values, we conducted 21 sets of mixing design experiments and developed the associated quadratic term models. Further multi‐objective optimization was carried out for the above response values. Optimized multiscale CNT synergistically modified composites (S‐CNT, M‐CNT, and L‐CNT contents of 1.25, 7.02, and 2.56 wt%) exhibited a λ value of 1.168 W/mK, which was 121% higher than that of pure composite and also superior to the same content of S‐CNT‐ (1.031 W/mK), M‐CNT‐ (1.016 W/mK), and L‐CNT‐modified composites (0.983 W/mK). Additionally, the optimized composite demonstrated excellent mechanical properties (F = 1482 MPa, C = 848 MPa, and T = 1759 MPa), which were 13%, 11%, and 13% higher than those of the pure composites, respectively, and also surpassed those of the S‐CNT‐, M‐CNT‐and L‐CNT‐modified composites. The relationship between interfacial structure and thermal conductivity in epoxy resin/Al2O3 composite is important but is still elusive. Here, we illuminate this issue by investigating the role of four silane coupling agents in thermal conductivity for epoxy resin/Al2O3 composites. The results show that 3‐glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH560) is the best silane coupling agent to modify Al2O3, resulting in the lowest viscosity and the highest thermal conductivity of the epoxy resin/Al2O3‐KH560 composite compared with alternative systems. This is attributed to the strong interfacial interaction between Al2O3‐KH560 and epoxy resin, as confirmed by the Fowkes model and broadband dielectric spectroscopy. The interfacial thermal resistance between the epoxy resin and Al2O3 is also quantitatively measured via a photothermal radiometry technique. The epoxy resin/Al2O3‐KH560 also has the lowest interfacial thermal resistance (1.50 ± 0.02 × 10−6 m2 K W−1), compared with the other three systems. This study advances the understanding of the relationship between interfacial structure and thermal conductivity in polymer composites. Thermal conductivity of moulding sands is very poorly known. In addition, the study of thermal conductivity variation of moulding sand as a function of its properties is a crucial step in the prediction of moulding defects. So, this study investigates the effects of moisture content, compactibility and permeability of green sand on its thermal conductivity variation, with a specific focus on the combination of bentonite, sand and water for thermal characterization of the transient hot-bridge (THB) method. Three levels of active clay content were selected: 8.1%, 8.98% and 10.03%. For each level of active clay, different mixes were made by varying the amount of added water. Compactibility, permeability and thermal conductivity tests were carried out for each combination of active clay and moisture contents. The experimental results show that thermal conductivity increases with water content and compactibility for different active clay contents, whereas thermal conductivity decreases with permeability, and this variation is highly significant especially for 8.07% of active clay content. In this paper, a novel composite phase change material (CPCM) is prepared with inorganic PCM through impregnation and dispersion method which can be used for thermal management applications. Inorganic PCMs have high latent heat and good thermal conductivity and are non-flammable, but there exist leakage (shape stability) and corrosion problems. To overcome these issues, a porous structured material is impregnated with the inorganic PCM (disodium hydrogen orthophosphate dodecahydrate). The CPCM is prepared by loading various wt% of expanded graphite and boron nitride nanoparticles with the PCM, and characterization is performed to find the thermal properties and stability. The findings from FTIR and XRD analyses validate both the chemical compatibility and crystalline nature of the samples. DSC thermographs reveal the CPCM5 sample has a latent heat value of 168.05 J/g during the heating process, an encapsulation efficiency of 78.8% and a thermal conductivity of 4.69 W/mK. The thermal stability and resistance to corrosion of the composite samples are also enhanced. The best composite PCM sample is then selected, and subsequently, the thermal performance of the heat sink is experimentally investigated. The thermal performance of rectangular cavity heat sink filled with CPCM5 is the highest for various power sources and temperatures with a maximum enhancement ratio of 6.57. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) system, a pivotal technology for advanced aviation engines and ground gas turbines, mitigates direct interaction between high-temperature gas and high-temperature alloy substrates. In this investigation, a series of high-entropy Eu 2 B 2 O 7 (where B = Y, Yb, Ce, Zr, Hf, Ta, and Nb) oxides were synthesized through solid-state reactions. By manipulating B-site cations and introducing substantial atomic size disparities, as well as mass and charge disorder, we synthesized a highly disordered high-entropy Eu 2 B 2 O 7 oxide. This oxide exhibits a disordered fluorite structure and commendable thermal insulation attributes. The observed thermal conductivity of Eu 2 (Y 0.2 Yb 0.2 Zr 0.2 Nb 0.2 Ta 0.2) 2 O 7 ranges from 0.94 to 1.13 W·m–1·K–1, which can be ascribed to amplified lattice anharmonicity and disorder causing supplementary phonon scattering. In addition, It also shows the thermal expansion coefficient of 10.52 × 10−6 K−1 and high-temperature stability. These results denote that the high-entropy Eu 2 B 2 O 7 oxide may become a prospective contender for thermal barrier coatings and thermal insulators. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The effects of Ta doping on the thermal and electrical properties of SnO 2 varistors were researched. The results showed that the thermal conductivity is 2.01 WK−1m−1, the nonlinearity coefficient is 43, and the leakage current density is 0.7 μA/cm2 when the Ta doping level reaches 0.2 mol%. According to the measurement results of the EPR, SEM/EDS, and XRD, the Ta dopant can reduce the oxygen vacancy concentration, which was generated during the sintering. The decline of the oxygen vacancy concentration reduces the phonon scattering, then the thermal conductivity of the varistors is improved. On the other hand, the reduction of the oxygen vacancy concentration elevates the barrier height, so the nonlinearity coefficient is improved and the leakage current density is declined.
