Abstract Introduction Working memory (WM) is suggested to play a pivotal role in relearning and neural restoration during stroke rehabilitation. Using EEG, this study investigated the oscillatory mechanisms of WM in subacute stroke. Methods This study included 48 first subacute stroke patients (26 good-recovery, 22 poor-recovery, based on prognosis after a 4-week period) and 24 matched health controls. We examined the oscillatory characteristics and functional connectivity of the 0-back WM paradigm and assessed their associations with prognosis. Results Patients of poor recovery are characterised by a loss of significant beta rebound, beta-band connectivity, as well as impaired working memory speed and performances. Meanwhile, patients with good recovery have preserved these capacities to some extent. Our data further identified beta rebound to be closely associated with working memory speed and performances. Conclusions We provided novel findings that beta rebound and network connectivity as mechanistic evidence of impaired working memory in subacute stroke. These oscillatory features could potentially serve as a biomarker for brain stimulation technologies in stroke recovery.

Abstract Background To investigate the impact of chronic endometritis (CE) on the recurrence of endometrial polyps (EPs) in premenopausal women after transcervical resection of endometrial polyps (TCRP). Methods This prospective study enrolled 507 women who underwent TCRP between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. The patients were divided into a CE group (n = 133) and non-CE group (n = 374) based on the expression of CD138 in the endometrium. The EP recurrence rate at 1 year after TCRP was compared between the CE and non-CE groups and between groups with mild CE and severe CE. The impact of CD138 expression by resected EPs on EP recurrence also was investigated. Results The EP recurrence rate at 1 year post-TCRP was higher in the CE group than in the non-CE group (25.6% vs. 10.4%) and also higher in the severe CE group than in the mild CE group (34.5% vs. 18.7%). Additionally, the EP recurrence rate was higher among patients with CD138-expressing EPs than among those with EPs lacking CD138 expression (30.5% vs. 6.5%). The odds ratio (OR) for EP recurrence in the CE cohort compared with the non-CE cohort was 3.10 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.84–5.23) after adjustment for EP number and precautions against EP recurrence. The ORs for EP recurrence in patients with mild CE and severe CE were 2.21 (95%CI 1.11–4.40) and 4.32 (95%CI 2.26–8.26), respectively. Similarly, the OR for EP recurrence in cases with CD138-expressing EPs relative to cases with EPs lacking CD138 expression was 6.22 (95%CI 3.59–10.80) after adjustment for EP number and precautions against EP recurrence. Conclusions CE multiplied the recurrence rate of EPs in premenopausal women after TCRP, and this effect positively correlated with CE severity. CD138 expression by EPs also was associated with a higher risk for EP recurrence.

Early identification of acute gout is crucial, enabling healthcare professionals to implement targeted interventions for rapid pain relief and preventing disease progression, ensuring improved long-term joint function. In this study, we comprehensively explored the potential early detection of gout flares (GFs) based on nurses’ chief complaint notes in the Emergency Department (ED). Addressing the challenge of identifying GFs prospectively during an ED visit, where documentation is typically minimal, our research focused on employing alternative Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to enhance detection accuracy. We investigated GF detection algorithms using both sparse representations by traditional NLP methods and dense encodings by medical domain-specific Large Language Models (LLMs), distinguishing between generative and discriminative models. Three methods were used to alleviate the issue of severe data imbalances, including oversampling, class weights, and focal loss. Extensive empirical studies were performed on the Gout Emergency Department Chief Complaint Corpora. Sparse text representations like tf-idf proved to produce strong performances, achieving F1 scores higher than 0.75. The best deep learning models were RoBERTa-large-PM-M3-Voc and BioGPT, which had the best F1 scores for each dataset, with a 0.8 on the 2019 dataset and a 0.85 F1 score on the 2020 dataset, respectively. We concluded that although discriminative LLMs performed better for this classification task when compared to generative LLMs, a combination of using generative models as feature extractors and employing a support vector machine for classification yielded promising results comparable to those obtained with discriminative models.

Background: To comprehensively investigate the behaviors of oncologists with different working experiences and institute group styles in deep learning-based organs-at-risk (OAR) contouring. Methods: A deep learning-based contouring system (DLCS) was modeled from 188 CT datasets of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in institute A. Three institute oncology groups, A, B, and C, were included; each contained a beginner and an expert. For each of the 28 OARs, two trials were performed with manual contouring first and post-DLCS edition later, for ten test cases. Contouring performance and group consistency were quantified by volumetric and surface Dice coefficients. A volume-based and a surface-based oncologist satisfaction rate (VOSR and SOSR) were defined to evaluate the oncologists' acceptance of DLCS. Results: Based on DLCS, experience inconsistency was eliminated. Intra-institute consistency was eliminated for group C but still existed for group A and group B. Group C benefits most from DLCS with the highest number of improved OARs (8 for volumetric Dice and 10 for surface Dice), followed by group B. Beginners obtained more numbers of improved OARs than experts (7 v.s. 4 in volumetric Dice and 5 v.s. 4 in surface Dice). VOSR and SOSR varied for institute groups, but the rates of beginners were all significantly higher than those of experts for OARs with experience group significance. A remarkable positive linear relationship was found between VOSR and post-DLCS edition volumetric Dice with a coefficient of 0.78. Conclusions: The DLCS was effective for various institutes and the beginners benefited more than the experts.

Decalcified bone matrix has great potential and application prospects in the repair of bone defects due to its good biocompatibility and osteogenic activity. In order to verify whether fish decalcified bone matrix (FDBM) has similar structure and efficacy, this study used the principle of HCl decalcification to prepare the FDBM by using fresh halibut bone as the raw material, and then degreasing, decalcifying, dehydrating and freeze-drying it. Its physicochemical properties were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and other methods, and then its biocompatibility was tested by in vitro and in vivo experiments. At the same time, an animal model of femoral defect in rats was established, and commercially available bovine decalcified bone matrix (BDBM) was used as the control group, and the area of femoral defect in rats was filled with the two materials respectively. The changes in the implant material and the repair of the defect area were observed by various aspects such as imaging and histology, and its osteoinductive repair capacity and degradation properties were studied. The experiments showed that the FDBM is a form of biomaterial with high bone repair capacity and lower economic cost than other related materials such as bovine decalcified bone matrix. FDBM is simpler to extract and the raw materials are more abundant, which can greatly improve the utilization of marine resources. Our results show that FDBM not only has a good repair effect on bone defects, but also has good physicochemical properties, biosafety and cell adhesion, and is a promising medical biomaterial for the treatment of bone defects, which can basically meet the clinical requirements for bone tissue repair engineering materials.

Abstract Background Tissue-engineered bone grafts (TEBGs) that undergo vascularization and neurotization evolve into functioning bone tissue. Previously, we verified that implanting sensory nerve tracts into TEBGs promoted osteogenesis. However, the precise mechanisms and interaction between seed cells were not explored. In this study, we hypothesized that neurotization may influence the osteogenesis of TEBGs through vascularization. Methods We cultured rat Schwann cells (SCs), aortic endothelial cells (AECs), and bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) and then obtained BM-MSC-derived induced endothelial cells (IECs) and induced osteoblasts (IOBs). IECs and AECs were cultured in an SC-conditioned medium (SC-CM) to assess proliferation, migration, capillary-like tube formation, and angiogenesis, and the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels in the supernatants were detected. We established an indirect coculture model to detect the expression of nestin and VEGF receptors in IECs and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-2 in SCs. Then, SCs, IECs, and IOBs were labeled and loaded into a β-tricalcium phosphate scaffold to induce prevascularization, and the scaffold was implanted into a 6-mm-long defect of rat femurs. Three groups were set up according to the loaded cells: I, SCs, and IECs (coculture for 3 days) plus IOBs; II, IECs (culture for 3 days) plus IOBs; III, IOBs. Nestin and TIMP-2 expression and osteogenesis of TEBGs were evaluated at 12 weeks post-implantation through histological and radiological assessments. Results We found that SC-CM promoted IEC proliferation, migration, capillary-like tube formation, and angiogenesis, but no similar effects were observed for AECs. IECs expressed nestin extensively, while AECs barely expressed nestin, and SC-CM promoted the VEGF secretion of IECs. In the coculture model, SCs promoted nestin and VEGF receptor expression in IECs, and IECs inhibited TIMP-2 expression in SCs. The promotion of prevascularized TEBGs by SCs and IECs in group I augmented new bone formation at 6 and 12 weeks. Nestin expression was higher in group I than in the other groups, while TIMP-2 expression was lower at 12 weeks. Conclusions This study demonstrated that SCs can promote TEBG osteogenesis via IECs and further revealed the related specific characteristics of IECs, providing preliminary cytological evidence for neurotization of TEBGs.

Background/Aims: Osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by degradation of cartilage, sole cell type of which is chondrocytes. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) possess multipotency and can be directionally differentiated into chondrocytes under stimulation. This study was aimed to explore the possible roles of vitamin D and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) in the chondrogenic differentiation of BMSCs. Methods: BMSCs were isolated from femurs and tibias of rats and characterized by flow cytometry. After stimulation with vitamin D, BMSC proliferation and migration were measured by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and Transwell assays, respectively. Chondrogenic differentiation was estimated through expression levels of specific markers by qRT-PCR and Western blot analysis. After stable transfection, the effects of aberrantly expressed TGF-β1 on vitamin D-induced alterations, including BMSC viability, migration and chondrogenic differentiation, were all evaluated utilizing CCK-8 assay, Transwell assay, qRT-PCR and Western blot analysis. Finally, the phosphorylation levels of key kinases in the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathways were determined by Western blot analysis. Results: Vitamin D remarkably promoted BMSC viability, migration and chondrogenic differentiation. These alterations of BMSCs induced by vitamin D were reinforced by TGF-β1 overexpression while were reversed by TGF-β1 silencing. Additionally, the phosphorylation levels of ERK, JNK and c-Jun were enhanced by TGF-β1 overexpression but were reduced by TGF-β1 knockdown. Conclusion: Vitamin D promoted BMSC proliferation, migration and chondrogenic differentiation. TGF-β1 might be implicated in the vitamin D-induced alterations of BMSCs through regulating ERK/JNK pathway.

Purpose: To develop a triptolide (TP) self-microemulsifying drug delivery system and to investigate its anti-tumor effect on human gastric cancer line MGC80-3 xenografts in nude mice.Methods: The medium chain triglyceride (MCT) was selected as oil phase; polyoxyethylene castor oil (EL) was selected as surfactant, and PEG-400 was selected as cosurfactant. The mass ratio of each phase was optimized by central composite design and response surface methodology to prepare TP-SMEDDS (self-microemulsifying drug delivery system). The quality of TP-SMEDDS was evaluated, and its inhibitory effect on tumor growth investigated in nude mice transplanted with MGC80-3 cells.Results: The final prescription process was defined as follows: MCT mass ratio: 25.3%; EL mass ratio: 49.6%; PEG-400 mass ratio: 25.1%. The prepared TP-SMEDDS was a transparent liquid with a clear appearance (the theoretical particle size: 31.168 nm). On transmission electron microscopy, the microemulsion particles were spherical in size and uniformly distributed without adhesions. The in vitro release experiment showed complete release of the prepared TP-SMEDDS in PBS solution in 6 h. In vivo antitumor activity showed its inhibitory effect in the xenograft model.Conclusion: The self-microemulsifying delivery system improved the oral bioavailability and the in vivo antitumor effect of TP.

Irrigation and fertilization obviously affected green vegetables growth. Six irrigation system and fertilization coupling treatments were set to investigate their interacted effects on soil properties of greenhouse green vegetable. They were ACC (urea fertilizer+ superphosphate fertilizer+ potassium sulphate fertilizer +normal irrigation) as a check, OC (bio-organic fertilizer + normal irrigation), OS (bioorganic fertilizer + water-saving irrigation), CFC (NPK compound fertilizer + normal irrigation), CFS (NPK compound fertilizer + water-saving irrigation), OCFC (bio-organic fertilizer + NPK compound fertilizer + normal irrigation), and OCFS (bio-organic fertilizer + NPK compound fertilizer + water-saving irrigation). Results showed significant differences presented in soil water (SW), pH, EC, organic matters (SOM), available nitrogen (AN), available phosphorus (AP), available potassium (AK) and total nitrogen (TN) among all treatments (P<0.05). Compared to the transplanting time, all treatments improved soil EC, AN, AK and TK, reducing soil AP, TN and TP. Moreover, only ACC had the higher pH value, with ACC, OCFC, OCFS and CFC had the higher SW. OS received the largest T (26.63 C)biggest EC (337.5 us/cm), AN (107.95 mg/kg) and TK (13.11 g/kg). OCFS had the largest SOM at 17.80 g/kg, which surpassed that at transplanting time and followed with the biggest TN (0.76 g/kg). The most AP (35.85 mg/kg), AK (127 mg/kg) and TP (0.81 g/kg) presented in CFS, OC and OCFC, respectively. The lowest soil available and total nutrients appeared in ACC and OC, respectively. The results of Pearson and double factor variance analysis showed SW had evidently closely related to other soil properties, and interacted influences between irrigation and fertilizer application extremely significantly popped on W and AK (P<0.01). Summarily, water-saving irrigation and bio-organic fertilizer coupling treatment could be the most beneficial to improve the soil properties for vegetable planting in this paper, withincreased soil organic matters by NPK compound fertilizer. BackgroundHuman leukocyte antigen DP (HLA-DP) locus has been reported to be associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in populations of Japan and Thailand. We aimed to examine whether the association can be replicated in Han Chinese populations.Methodology/principal findingsTwo HLA-DP variants rs2395309 and rs9277535 (the most strongly associated SNPs from each HLA-DP locus) were genotyped in three independent Han cohorts consisting of 2 805 cases and 1 796 controls. By using logistic regression analysis, these two SNPs in the HLA-DPA1 and HLA-DPB1 genes were significantly associated with HBV infection in Han Chinese populations (P = 0.021∼3.36×10(-8) at rs2395309; P = 8.37×10(-3)∼2.68×10(-10) at rs9277535). In addition, the genotype distributions of both sites (rs2395309 and rs9277535) were clearly different between southern and northern Chinese population (P = 8.95×10(-5) at rs2395309; P = 1.64×10(-9) at rs9277535). By using asymptomatic HBV carrier as control group, our study showed that there were no associations of two HLA-DP variants with HBV progression (P = 0.305∼0.822 and 0.163∼0.881 in southern Chinese population, respectively; P = 0.097∼0.697 and 0.198∼0.615 in northern Chinese population, respectively).ConclusionsOur results confirmed that two SNPs (rs2395309 and rs9277535) in the HLA-DP loci were strongly associated with HBV infection in southern and northern Han Chinese populations, but not with HBV progression.

Background: Study on viruses has greatly benefited from visualization of viruses tagged with green fluorescent protein (GFP) in living cells. But GFP tag, as a large inserted fragment, is not suitable for labelling Hepatitis B virus (HBV) that is a compact virion with limited internal space. Aim: To visualize HBV in living cells, we constructed several recombinant HBV fluorescently labelled with biarsenical dye to track the behaviour of HBV in the cytoplasm of infected cells. Methods: By mutagenesis, a smaller size tetracysteine (TC) tag (C-C-P-G-C-C) that could be bound with a biarsenical fluorescent dye was genetically inserted at different cell epitopes of HBV core protein expressed in transfected cells. Result: Confocal microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations showed that TC-tagged core proteins bound with biarsenical dye could specifically fluoresce in cells and be incorporated into nucleocapsid to form fluorescent virions. The recombinant fluorescent HBV virions retained their infectivity as wild-type ones. Moreover, tracking of fluorescent HBV particles in living cells reveals microtubule- dependent motility of the intracellular particles. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time to generate fluorescent HBV virions with biarsenical labelling and to visualize their trafficking in living cells. The fluorescent HBV may become one highly valuable tool for further studying detailed dynamic processes of HBV life cycle and interaction of HBV with host in live-imaging approach. Abstract This paper presents the synthesis of mesoporous materials from hydrotalcite-like layered double hydroxides (LDHs) with the Mg2 +/(Al3 + + In3 +) molar ratio of 3.0 on the brucite-like lattice and the interlayer carbonate anions, using a novel separate nucleation and aging steps method developed in our laboratory. The physicochemical properties of as-synthesized LDHs and resulting calcined products at 500C were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), simultaneous thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), 27Al nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption-desorption experiments. The results indicate calcination of LDHs with a well-crystallized single phase and nanoscale crystallites leads to the formation of the type MgO-like phase, and the pore size distributions of uncalcined and calcined LDHs are mostly in the range of mesopores. Furthermore, calcined materials have higher surface areas, pore volumes, pore diameters and surface basicities than corresponding precursors. When used as solid base catalysts for the Knoevenagel condensation of ethyl cyanoacetate with benzaldehyde, the material with higher density of base sites on the surface also exhibited a higher catalytic activity. Particularly, calcined MgAlIn-LDH has highest density of base sites resulting in a highest catalytic activity, as points to an important role of indium as a modifier of the surface properties of solid base catalysts. Stem cell therapy offers a novel approach to treating difbetic foot ulcers. Fish skin decellularized matrix, a type I collagen, provides a promising carrier for stem cells, creating a supportive microenvironment that enhances cell survival and therapeutic potential. This study aims to investigate the effects and mechanisms of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUCMSCs) loaded onto a fish collagen sponge for wound healing in diabetic rats. The study evaluates stem cell‐loading efficiency with fish collagen sponge in vitro, assesses material distribution on diabetic rat wounds, and establishes a wound model. Rats are divided into the Self‐healing group, Fish collagen sponge group, and Sponge loaded with HUCMSCs group. Therapeutic effects are evaluated through various analyses, including histopathology and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction for collagen‐related gene expression levels. Compared to the self‐healing group, both the fish collagen group and the composite group show faster wound repair and improved healing outcomes. The composite group exhibits superior wound healing quality, with fish collagen contributing to enhanced tissue regeneration through collagen regulation at the wound site. Loading HUCMSCs onto a fish collagen sponge shows promise for treating diabetic wounds by addressing nutrient deficiency and cell supply issues, offering potential benefits for patients undergoing treatment. In this work, phase-apodized silicon grating filters with varying sidewall corrugation width and location were investigated, while the resonance wavelength, extinction ratio, and rejection bandwidth were tuned flexibly. The grating filters with a waveguide width of 500 nm and grating period of 400 nm were fabricated and characterized as a proof of concept. The resonance wavelength of the device can be shifted by 4.54 nm by varying the sidewall corrugation width from 150 to 250 nm. The corresponding rejection bandwidth can be changed from 1.19 to 2.03 nm by applying a sidewall corrugation location offset from 50 to 200 nm. The experimental performances coincide well with the simulation results. The presented sidewall corrugation-modulated apodized grating can be expected to have great application prospects for optical communications and semiconductor lasers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Irrigation and fertilizer interaction is an efficient cultivation management strategy for facility agriculture. However, the effects of irrigation and fertilizer management on tomato growth and its physiological factors remain unclarified. In this study, two irrigation patterns (W1, conventional irrigation; W2, water-saving irrigation) and four fertilizer application patterns (CF, chemical fertilizer; BOF, biological organic fertilizer; NPK, nutrient compound fertilizer; BOF+NPK) were selected to observe the effects of their interaction on cherry tomato plant growth, leaf photosynthesis and fruit quality through pot experiments. The results showed that W2 treatments promoted plant height growth compared to W1 under the same fertilizer addition. Moreover, irrigation and fertilizer management had significant effects on net photosynthetic rate, intercellular oxidation concentration, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate at the first sequence flowering and fruiting stages. The maximum tomato plant height (99.0 cm) was achieved under the irrigation and fertilizer pattern of BOF and W2, along with the highest fruit yield of 1.98 kg/plant, which was approximately 31.1% higher than the minimum yield under the combined CF and W2 treatment. Under W2 treatments, the application of either NPK or BOF increased the soluble sugar content of tomatoes. The structural equation models showed that the soil alkali hydrolyzed nitrogen could directly significantly affect the yield and soluble sugar. The findings suggest that optimization of irrigation-fertilizer interactions positively regulates tomato growth, providing an efficient model for tomato irrigation and fertilizer management and a reference for sustainable development of facility agriculture. Addressing the challenge of identifying GFs prospectively during an ED visit, where documentation is typically minimal, our research focused on employing alternative Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to enhance detection accuracy. We investigated GF detection algorithms using both sparse representations by traditional NLP methods and dense encodings by medical domain-specific Large Language Models (LLMs), distinguishing between generative and discriminative models. Three methods were used to alleviate the issue of severe data imbalances, including oversampling, class weights, and focal loss. Extensive empirical studies were performed on the Gout Emergency Department Chief Complaint Corpora. Sparse text representations like tf-idf proved to produce strong performances, achieving F1 scores higher than 0.75. The best deep learning models were RoBERTa-large-PM-M3-Voc and BioGPT, which had the best F1 scores for each dataset, with a 0.8 on the 2019 dataset and a 0.85 F1 score on the 2020 dataset, respectively. We concluded that although discriminative LLMs performed better for this classification task when compared to generative LLMs, a combination of using generative models as feature extractors and employing a support vector machine for classification yielded promising results comparable to those obtained with discriminative models. This study aims to enhance the productivity of high-voltage transmission line insulators and their operational safety by investigating their failure mechanisms under ultimate load conditions. Destructive tests were conducted on a specific type of insulator under ultimate load conditions. A high-speed camera was used to document the insulator's failure process and collect strain data from designated points. A simulation model of the insulator was established to predict the effects of ultimate loads. The simulation results identified a maximum first principal stress of 94.549 MPa in the porcelain shell, with stress distribution characteristics resembling a cantilever beam subjected to bending. This implied that the insulator failure occurred when the stress reached the bending strength of the porcelain shell. To validate the simulation's accuracy, bending and tensile strength tests were conducted on the ceramic materials constituting the insulator. The bending strength of the porcelain shell was 100.52 MPa, showing a 5.6% variation from the simulation results, which indicated the reliability of the simulation model. Finally, optimization designs on the design parameters P1 and P2 of the insulator were conducted. The results indicated that setting P1 to 8° and P2 to 90.062 mm decreased the first principal stress of the porcelain shell by 47.6% and Von Mises stress by 31.6% under ultimate load conditions, significantly enhancing the load-bearing capacity. The process of solid propellant production, which is the most widely used high-energy material, has garnered significant attention from researchers. However, there have been relatively few studies on its processing, due to the unique nature of the casting process. This paper aims to further analyze the pouring process of the propellant slurry. Initially, we obtained a sample of the propellant slurry and measured its rheological parameters using a rotary rheometer. From the analysis of the experimental results, we derived the viscosity parameters and the yield values of the propellant slurry. Subsequently, we simulated the pouring process, setting the slurry parameters based on the data obtained from the rheological measurement experiment. The simulation results demonstrated that the flower plate significantly impacts upon the cutting and separating effect on the slurry during pouring. Upon leaving the flower plate, the slurry descends onto the core mold platform under the influence of gravity, gradually flowing along the edge of the core mold. Although there may be some small voids in the pouring process, the voids will disappear completely at the end of pouring. A comparison with the actual pouring situation revealed a higher consistency between the simulation results and reality, thus establishing the reliability of the simulation method as a reference for analyzing the pouring process. Under the conditions of karst development and soft upper and hard lower strata, ground-settlement control for tunnels under airport taxiways is stricter than for ordinary tunnels. Tunnel construction methods and karst disposal measures are also important. These are engineering problems that need to be solved urgently to ensure the safe passage of tunnels under airport taxiways. Taking the intercity railway tunnel under taxiways T3 and T4 of Guangzhou Baiyun international airport as a case study, theoretical analysis and field tests on karst treatment measures and ground-settlement control measures were conducted. Karst treatment measures and a pile support plate (PSP) structure have been proposed to support the taxiways. The effect of the system was analysed numerically method and on-site surface settlement was monitored. The maximum monitored settlement of T3 and T4 taxiway surfaces was 5.90 mm and the differential settlement was 0.12‰. The numerical results provided a similar value and did not exceed the settlement control standard for airport taxiways. The key technologies for the construction of tunnels under airport taxiways in karst areas and upper soft and lower hard strata are presented, karst disposal measures are summarised and the PSP protection system is described. Water and fertilizer coupling is a high-efficiency technology for the development of facility agriculture. However, the interaction effect of nitrogen (N) and air carbon dioxide (CO2) on hydroponic purple cabbage, especially on its leaf anthocyanins under hydroponic solution systems, remains unexplored. In this study, six treatments were set as C0N0, C0N2, C0N4, C1N0, C1N2 and C1N4, with N0, N2 and N4 being 0.0 g/L, 0.2 g/L and 0.4 g/L exogenous urea-N to hydroponic solution dilution, respectively. C0 and C1 were set as with and without CO2 fertilizer (i.e., 800 g CO2 agent added one week after transplanting and 600 g CO2 agent added when the plant reached 15 cm in height), respectively. Pot experiments were conducted to investigate the interaction effect of N and air CO2 (NÃ--CO2) on the growth, photosynthesis, yield and anthocyanin content of hydroponic purple cabbage Brassica campestris ssp. chinensis. The results showed NÃ--CO2 extremely significantly influenced plant height (H), net photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs), intercellular oxidation concentration (Ci), transpiration rate (Tr), leaf water use efficiency (LWUE) and yield. The C1N0 treatment had the largest yield at 262.5 g/plant, with higher values for root length, root weight, plant height and leaf number than the other treatments. The Pn, Ci and Tr of C1N4 were the highest at 3.05 μmol CO2/m²·s, 352.8 μmol CO2/m²·s and 2.31 mmol H2O/m²·s, respectively. The C1N2 treatment received the largest Gs value of 0.70 mol H2O/m²·s and the largest Tr of 2.31 mmol H2O/m²·s. There was the highest LWUE for C0N2 (1.41) and the highest anthocyanin content for C1N2 (1.35 mg/kg). There was a significant negative correlation between leaf number and anthocyanin (r = -0.414, p<0.05). The findings demonstrated that adding CO2 fertilizer and 0.2 g/L exogenous urea-N to hydroponic solution dilution is a potential NÃ--CO2 coupling strategy to increase anthocyanin and the yield of purple cabbage. Much effort has been made in the past decades to citation function classification, but noteworthy issues exist. Annotation difficulty resulted in limited data size, especially for minority classes, and inadequate representativeness of the underlying scientific domains. Concerning algorithmic classification, state-of-the-art deep learning-based methods are flawed by generating a feature vector for the whole citation context (or sentence) and failing to exploit the full realm of citation modelling options. Responding to these issues, this paper studied contextualised citation function classification. Specifically, a large new citation context dataset was created by merging and re-annotating six datasets about computational linguistics. A variety of strong SciBERT-based citation function classification models were proposed, and new states of the art were achieved. Through deeper performance analysis, this study focused on answering several research questions about the effective ways of performing citation function classification. More specifically, the study justified the necessity of modelling in-text citations in context and confirmed the superiority of doing citation function classification at citation (segment) level. A particular emphasis was placed on in-depth per-class performance analysis to understand whether citation function classification is robust enough to suit various popular downstream applications and what further efforts are required to meet such analytic needs. Main path analysis is a popular method for extracting the scientific backbone from the citation network of a research domain. Existing approaches ignored the semantic relationships between the citing and cited publications, resulting in several adverse issues, in terms of coherence of main paths and coverage of significant studies. This paper advocated the semantic main path network analysis approach to alleviate these issues based on citation function analysis. A wide variety of SciBERT‐based deep learning models were designed for identifying citation functions. Semantic citation networks were built by either including important citations, for example, extension, motivation, usage and similarity, or excluding incidental citations like background and future work. Semantic main path network was built by merging the top‐K main paths extracted from various time slices of semantic citation network. In addition, a three‐way framework was proposed for the quantitative evaluation of main path analysis results. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis on three research areas of computational linguistics demonstrated that, compared to semantics‐agnostic counterparts, different types of semantic main path networks provide complementary views of scientific knowledge flows. Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of heparin-coated venous stents in animals. Methods: We used atomic layer deposition technology to obtain a heparin coating with good stability and then prepared a heparin-coated venous stent based on this technology. The experimental stents were prepared according to the diameter of the rabbit inferior vena cava and were divided into Ni-Ti alloy stent group, Ni-Ti-Al2O3 stent group and Ni-Ti-Al2O3-Heparin stent group. 3 days, 7 days and 14 days after stent implantation, the materials were collected, and the three groups of stents were observed by hard tissue section pathology, immunohistochemistry and scanning electron microscope to observe the differences in vascular wall inflammation, thrombosis, lumen stenosis and vascular intima regeneration. Result and Conclusion: The experiment confirmed the safety of the heparin-coated stent in vivo. Compared with the control group, the experimental group showed a high degree of vascular endothelialization and an intact neointimal structure 14 days after implantation. The superposition of basic non-diffracting beams triggered new research hotspots lately, laying opportunities for long-distance wireless optical communication. The Lommel-Gaussian (LMG) beam formed by the superposition of Bessel-Gaussian light not only possesses non-diffraction feature, but also has tunable symmetry. With the help of Poynting vector analysis, we observed a smaller radial energy flow component during the propagation of the high order symmetrical LMG beam, which allows it to maintain the original beam profile over long distance. Thanks to the energy oscillation of the mainlobe and sidelobes, the mainlobe blocked by the symmetrical LMG beam can be restored. Also, the random phase screen with angular spectrum method is used to describe the beam behaviors in turbulence. The results show that the symmetry LMG is preferred in free space optical communication, and the asymmetric LMG performs poorly due to asymmetric energy transfer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Tissue-engineered bone grafts (TEBGs) that undergo vascularization and neurotization evolve into functioning bone tissue. Previously, we verified that implanting sensory nerve tracts into TEBGs promoted osteogenesis. However, the precise mechanisms and interaction between seed cells were not explored. In this study, we hypothesized that neurotization may influence the osteogenesis of TEBGs through vascularization. Methods: We cultured rat Schwann cells (SCs), aortic endothelial cells (AECs), and bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) and then obtained BM-MSC-derived induced endothelial cells (IECs) and induced osteoblasts (IOBs). IECs and AECs were cultured in an SC-conditioned medium (SC-CM) to assess proliferation, migration, capillary-like tube formation, and angiogenesis, and the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels in the supernatants were detected. We established an indirect coculture model to detect the expression of nestin and VEGF receptors in IECs and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-2 in SCs. Then, SCs, IECs, and IOBs were labeled and loaded into a β-tricalcium phosphate scaffold to induce prevascularization, and the scaffold was implanted into a 6-mm-long defect of rat femurs. Three groups were set up according to the loaded cells: I, SCs, and IECs (coculture for 3 days) plus IOBs; II, IECs (culture for 3 days) plus IOBs; III, IOBs. Nestin and TIMP-2 expression and osteogenesis of TEBGs were evaluated at 12 weeks post-implantation through histological and radiological assessments. Results: We found that SC-CM promoted IEC proliferation, migration, capillary-like tube formation, and angiogenesis, but no similar effects were observed for AECs. IECs expressed nestin extensively, while AECs barely expressed nestin, and SC-CM promoted the VEGF secretion of IECs. In the coculture model, SCs promoted nestin and VEGF receptor expression in IECs, and IECs inhibited TIMP-2 expression in SCs. The promotion of prevascularized TEBGs by SCs and IECs in group I augmented new bone formation at 6 and 12 weeks. Nestin expression was higher in group I than in the other groups, while TIMP-2 expression was lower at 12 weeks. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that SCs can promote TEBG osteogenesis via IECs and further revealed the related specific characteristics of IECs, providing preliminary cytological evidence for neurotization of TEBGs. Main path analysis is a famous network‐based method for understanding the evolution of a scientific domain. Most existing methods have two steps, weighting citation arcs based on search path counting and exploring main paths in a greedy fashion, with the assumption that citation networks are acyclic. The only available proposal that avoids manual cycle removal is to preprint transform a cyclic network to an acyclic counterpart. Through a detailed discussion about the issues concerning this approach, especially deriving the "de‐preprinted" main paths for the original network, this article proposes an alternative solution with two‐fold contributions. Based on the argument that a publication cannot influence itself through a citation cycle, the SimSPC algorithm is proposed to weight citation arcs by counting simple search paths. A set of algorithms are further proposed for main path exploration and extraction directly from cyclic networks based on a novel data structure main path tree. The experiments on two cyclic citation networks demonstrate the usefulness of the alternative solution. In the meanwhile, experiments show that publications in strongly connected components may sit on the turning points of main path networks, which signifies the necessity of a systematic way of dealing with citation cycles. This article elaborates how to identify and evaluate causal factors to improve scientific impact. Currently, analyzing scientific impact can be beneficial to various academic activities including funding application, mentor recommendation, discovering potential cooperators, and the like. It is universally acknowledged that high-impact scholars often have more opportunities to receive awards as an encouragement for their hard work. Therefore, scholars spend great efforts in making scientific achievements and improving scientific impact during their academic life. However, what are the determinate factors that control scholars' academic success? The answer to this question can help scholars conduct their research more efficiently. Under this consideration, our article presents and analyzes the causal factors that are crucial for scholars' academic success. We first propose five major factors including article-centered factors, author-centered factors, venue-centered factors, institution-centered factors, and temporal factors. Then, we apply recent advanced machine learning algorithms and jackknife method to assess the importance of each causal factor. Our empirical results show that author-centered and article-centered factors have the highest relevancy to scholars' future success in the computer science area. Purpose: To develop a triptolide (TP) self-microemulsifying drug delivery system and to investigate its anti-tumor effect on human gastric cancer line MGC80-3 xenografts in nude mice. Methods: The medium chain triglyceride (MCT) was selected as oil phase; polyoxyethylene castor oil (EL) was selected as surfactant, and PEG-400 was selected as cosurfactant. The mass ratio of each phase was optimized by central composite design and response surface methodology to prepare TP-SMEDDS (self-microemulsifying drug delivery system). The quality of TP-SMEDDS was evaluated, and its inhibitory effect on tumor growth investigated in nude mice transplanted with MGC80-3 cells. Results: The final prescription process was defined as follows: MCT mass ratio: 25.3%; EL mass ratio: 49.6%; PEG-400 mass ratio: 25.1%. The prepared TP-SMEDDS was a transparent liquid with a clear appearance (the theoretical particle size: 31.168 nm). On transmission electron microscopy, the microemulsion particles were spherical in size and uniformly distributed without adhesions. The in vitro release experiment showed complete release of the prepared TP-SMEDDS in PBS solution in 6 h. In vivo antitumor activity showed its inhibitory effect in the xenograft model. Osteogenic efficiency of pre-vascularization and non-vascularization decalcified bone scaffolds in bone defect repair was investigated. Twenty-one Sprague-Dawley (SD) mice were randomly assigned to three groups, and a bone defect area of ~1.5 cm in length in the thigh bone of the right posterior limbs of each mouse was made. Pre-vascularization decalcified bone scaffolds in vitro (group A) and non-treatment decalcified bone scaffolds (group B) were separately implanted. The defect vacancy was considered as the blank control (group C). Sampling was made 4 weeks after the operation for the histological examination, and then the osteogenic efficiency was observed by gross sample, imaging, hematoxylin and eosin staining and Masson's staining. When implanting pre-vascularization decalcified bone scaffolds in vitro, the scaffolding material showed an obvious absorption, and more new bone formations and abundant vascular proliferation were observed. In non-vascularization decalcified bone scaffolds implanting, absorption insufficiency of the scaffolding material was observed, fewer new-born bone formations were shown, and the new vessels were very small and few in number. The demineralized bone matrix (DBM) putty is a traditional bone graft utilized to facilitate the repair and reconstruction of bone. Recent studies indicated the DBM putties with the various carriers were different in bone repairing ability. In order to prepare a kind of DBM putty with a good biocompatibility and bioactivity, the DBM gel was processed from the DBM and the feasibility as a carrier for the DBM putty was evaluated. After the bovine DBM gel was prepared, the BMPs content as well as the ability to promote osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells in vitro were investigated. Then the DBM putty was prepared and filled into the rat calvarial defect model to evaluate the bone repairing ability by micro-CT and histology. The result showed there was 2.953 ± 0.054 ng BMP contained in per gram of the DBM gel. And the ALP production of MC3T3-E1 cells in the DBM gels group increased with prolonged culturing, the mineralized nodules formed in MC3T3-E1 cells on 14th day after co-culture. The putty prepared by DBM gel was easy to handle without loss of DBM particles at room temperature. In the rat calvarial bone defect experiment, histological observation showed more mature bone formed in the DBM putty group than that in the type I collagen group at 12 weeks, which indicated the bone putty prepared by DBM gel exhibited a better bone repair capability. Background/Aims: Osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by degradation of cartilage, sole cell type of which is chondrocytes. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) possess multipotency and can be directionally differentiated into chondrocytes under stimulation. This study was aimed to explore the possible roles of vitamin D and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) in the chondrogenic differentiation of BMSCs. Methods: BMSCs were isolated from femurs and tibias of rats and characterized by flow cytometry. After stimulation with vitamin D, BMSC proliferation and migration were measured by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and Transwell assays, respectively. Chondrogenic differentiation was estimated through expression levels of specific markers by qRT-PCR and Western blot analysis. After stable transfection, the effects of aberrantly expressed TGF-β1 on vitamin D-induced alterations, including BMSC viability, migration and chondrogenic differentiation, were all evaluated utilizing CCK-8 assay, Transwell assay, qRT-PCR and Western blot analysis. Finally, the phosphorylation levels of key kinases in the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathways were determined by Western blot analysis. Results: Vitamin D remarkably promoted BMSC viability, migration and chondrogenic differentiation. These alterations of BMSCs induced by vitamin D were reinforced by TGF-β1 overexpression while were reversed by TGF-β1 silencing. Additionally, the phosphorylation levels of ERK, JNK and c-Jun were enhanced by TGF-β1 overexpression but were reduced by TGF-β1 knockdown. Conclusion: Vitamin D promoted BMSC proliferation, migration and chondrogenic differentiation. It is important to help researchers find valuable papers from a large literature collection. To this end, many graph-based ranking algorithms have been proposed. However, most of these algorithms suffer from the problem of ranking bias. Ranking bias hurts the usefulness of a ranking algorithm because it returns a ranking list with an undesirable time distribution. This paper is a focused study on how to alleviate ranking bias by leveraging the heterogeneous network structure of the literature collection. We propose a new graph-based ranking algorithm, Mutual Rank, that integrates mutual reinforcement relationships among networks of papers, researchers, and venues to achieve a more synthetic, accurate, and less-biased ranking than previous methods. Mutual Rank provides a unified model that involves both intra- and inter-network information for ranking papers, researchers, and venues simultaneously. We use the ACL Anthology Network as the benchmark data set and construct the gold standard from computer linguistics course websites of well-known universities and two well-known textbooks. The experimental results show that Mutual Rank greatly outperforms the state-of-the-art competitors, including Page Rank, HITS, Co Rank, Future Rank, and P- Rank, in ranking papers in both improving ranking effectiveness and alleviating ranking bias. Inflammation is a physiological response to infection or injury and involves the innate and adaptive immune system. Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) is a well-known flavonoid that elicits an important therapeutic effect by inhibiting inflammatory response. In this study, we examined whether Tan IIA exerts anti-inflammatory activity and investigated the possible mechanisms, including Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-MyD88-nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway and microRNA expression in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 cells. Tan IIA could attenuate the inflammatory reaction via decreasing cytokine, chemokine, and acute-phase protein production, including GM-CSF, sICAM-1, cxcl-1, MIP-1α, and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), analyzed by Proteome profile array in LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells. Concurrently, the messenger RNA (mRNA) expressions of IL-1β, TNF-α, and COX-2 were also significantly reduced by Tan IIA. Additionally, Tan IIA decreased LPS-induced NF-κB activation and downregulated TLR4 and MyD88 protein expression levels. We also observed reduced microRNA-155, miR-147, miR-184, miR-29b, and miR-34c expression levels, while LPS-induced microRNA-105, miR-145a, miR-194, miR-383, miR-132, and miR-451a expression levels were upregulated using microRNA (miRNA) qPCR array. Our results indicate that Tan IIA could exert an anti-inflammatory effect on LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells by decreasing TLR4-MyD88-NF-κB signaling pathway and regulating a series of cytokine production and miRNA expression. It is very useful to understand metropolitan human movement patterns for better city planning and traffic management. As the most accessible and wide-coverage data source for probing the laws behind city pulse and human movement, taxi O/D data have been receiving more and more attention from road traffic administration offices. In this paper, we design a visual analysis system for big taxis O/D data for assisting understanding the spatio-temporal patterns of human mobility. The system first helps users determine the regions of interest for further investigation by the global heat map view of O/D distributions; visually encodes the spatio-temporal patterns of the O/D data of the to-be-analyzed regions chosen by lasso or rectangle region selection tools; and provides a multi-dimensidoneonal analysis of the latent spatio-temporal patterns of taxis O/D data through interactions between multiple coordinated views of visualizations including circular pixel graph, spatio-temporal stacked graph and nested pixel bar. The proposed system of taxis O/D data visual analysis gets interesting findings about the metropolitan residents' movement behavior when applied to large-scale real taxis GPS data in Hangzhou and receives good user feedbacks.
