Background: Despite the success of PD-1 blockade in recurrent/metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), its effect for locoregionally advanced NPC (LANPC) remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the benefit of adding PD-1 blockade to the current standard treatment (gemcitabine and cisplatin IC plus cisplatin CCRT ) for LANPC patients. Methods: From January 2020 to November 2022, 347 patients with non-metastatic high-risk LANPC (stage III-IVA, excluding T3-4N0) were included. Of the 347 patients, 268 patients were treated with standard treatment (IC-CCRT), and 79 received PD-1 blockade plus IC-CCRT (PD-1 group). For the PD-1 group, PD-1 blockade was given intravenously once every 3 weeks for up to 9 cycles (3 induction and 6 adjuvant). The primary endpoint was disease-free survival (DFS) (i.e. freedom from local/regional/distant failure or death). The propensity score matching (PSM) with the ratio of 1:2 was performed to control confounding factors. Results: After PSM analysis, 150 patients receiving standard treatment and 75 patients receiving additional PD-1 blockade remained in the current analysis. After three cycles of IC, the PD-1 group had significantly higher rates of complete response (defined as disappearance of all target lesions; 24% vs. 9%; P = 0.006) and complete biological response (defined as undetectable cell-free Epstein-Barr virus DNA, cfEBV DNA; 79% vs. 65%; P = 0.046) than that in the standard group. And the incidence of grade 3–4 toxicity during IC was 47% in the PD-1 group and 41% in the standard group, with no significant difference (P = 0.396). During follow-up period, additional PD-1 blockade to standard treatment improved 3-year DFS from 84 to 95%, with marginal statistical significance (HR, 0.28; 95%CI, 0.06-1.19; P = 0.064). Conclusion: Additiaonl PD-1 blockade to gemcitabine and cisplatin IC and adjuvant treatment results in significant improvement in tumor regression, cfEBV DNA clearance, superior DFS, and comparable toxicity profiles in high-risk LANPC patients. Clean fire extinguishing systems applicable to the pottery jar liquor warehouse are in demand. In this study, taking 53vol% liquor as the research subject, fire models of various clean fire extinguishing systems comprising water mist, liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2) and liquid nitrogen (LN2) were established using a fire dynamic simulator to determine their fire extinguishing effect. A feasibility assessment of systems was performed under different fire source types, fire source sizes, and ventilation conditions. The fire extinguishing efficiency was analyzed in terms of the fire extinguishing time, oxygen concentration, and space temperature. The results showed that the success rate of the LCO2 and LN2 fire extinguishing systems was 100%, whereas the success rate of the water mist fire extinguishing system was 95%. In terms of reducing the oxygen concentration at the bottom of the space and the temperature in the space, the LCO2 system exhibited the best performance, followed by the LN2 system, and lastly the water mist. Under different ventilation conditions and fire source types, the LCO2 fire extinguishing system was least affected, whereas the effectiveness of the water mist fire extinguishing system reduced under natural ventilation conditions, and the extinguishing efficiency of the LN2 fire extinguishing system was affected by the fire source type. Overall, the LCO2 system presented more advantages in extinguishing fires in pottery jar liquor warehouses and can provide a new idea for the development and application of clean and efficient fire extinguishing systems. In this article, we formalize the problem of semiautomatic construction of the contour of area objects from satellite hyperspectral images and present a solution algorithm using PCA and Dijkstra's algorithm. The contour is considered as the boundary of an object, which can be used for its segmentation and classification. The semiautomatic contour accepts reference points specified by the operator. Image inpainting is the process of filling in missing or damaged areas of images. In recent years, this area has received significant development, mainly owing to machine learning methods. Generative adversarial networks are a powerful tool for creating synthetic images. They are trained to create images similar to the original dataset. The use of such neural networks is not limited to creating realistic images. In areas where privacy is important, such as healthcare or finance, they help generate synthetic data that preserves the overall structure and statistical characteristics, but does not contain the sensitive information of individuals. However, direct use of this architecture will result in the generation of a completely new image. In the case where it is possible to indicate the location of confidential information on an image, it is advisable to use image inpainting in order to replace only the secret information with synthetic information. This paper discusses key approaches to solving this problem, as well as corresponding neural network architectures. Questions are also raised about the use of these algorithms to protect confidential image information, as well as the possibility of using these models when developing new applications. Understanding the response mechanism of ecosystem services (ES) to landscape patterns is important in regional landscape planning and sustainable development. In this study, the landscape index and InVEST model were used to quantitatively analyze the spatio-temporal evolution of landscape patterns and ES in the Ganjiang River Basin of China from 1990 to 2020. Furthermore, the bivariate Moran's I method and spatial error model were used to test the spatial correlation between landscape index and ES. The results showed that (1) cropland decreased and construction land increased, and the overall landscape tended to be fragmented, the patch shape complicated, and landscape diversity increased from 1990 to 2020. Water conservation (WC) and soil conservation (SC) capacity increased by 10.56 mm and 16.24 t hm–2 a–1, respectively, whereas carbon storage (CS) decreased by 1.22 t hm–2 a–1. (2) The responses of different typical ES to landscape patterns were different in the landscape index and response degree. Typical ES negatively responded to Shannon's diversity index and patch density. WC was sensitive to the Splitting Index, whereas SC and CS were more responsive to the average patch area. (3) The overall purpose of territorial spatial planning within a basin should be to reduce the fragmentation and heterogeneity of the landscape. According to four local aggregation patterns of landscape index and ES, corresponding measures can be taken according to local conditions in different regions. These results can provide a quantitative basis for landscape management and ecological construction in the Ganjiang River Basin and scientific guidance for the Yangtze River conservation strategy. Objectives: To compare neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) to CCRT alone in children and adolescents (age ≤ 18 years) with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (CA-LANPC, stage III-IVA). Materials and methods: 195 CA-LANPC patients who were treated through CCRT with or without NAC between 2008 and 2018 were enrolled in this study. A matched cohort composed of CCRT patients and NAC-CCRT patients was generated by propensity score matching (PSM) at a 1:2 ratio. Survival outcomes and toxicities were compared between the CCRT group and NAC-CCRT group. Results: Of the 195 patients, 158 (81%) received NAC plus CCRT, and 37 (19%) received CCRT alone. The NAC-CCRT group had higher EBV DNA levels (≥ 4000 copy/mL), more advanced TNM stage (stage IV disease), and lower incidence of a high radiation dose (> 6600 cGy) than the CCRT group. To avoid bias in treatment selection within retrospectively analysis, 34 patients from the CCRT group were matched with 68 patients from the NAC-CCRT group. In the matched cohort, the 5-year DMFS rate was 94.0% in the NAC-CCRT group versus 82.4% in the CCRT group, with marginal statistical significance (HR = 0.31; 95%CI 0.09–1.10; P = 0.055). During treatment, the accumulate incidence of severe acute toxicities (65.8% vs 45.9%; P = 0.037) in the NAC-CCRT group was higher than the CCRT group. However, the CCRT group had significantly higher accumulate incidence of severe late toxicities (30.3% vs 16.8%; P = 0.041) than the NAC-CCRT group. Conclusions: Addition of NAC to CCRT tended to improve long-term DMFS in CA-LANPC patients with acceptable toxicity. However, relative randomized clinical trial is still needed in the future. Objectives: To assess whether integrative radiomics and transcriptomics analyses could provide novel insights for radiomic features' molecular annotation and effective risk stratification in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: A total of 627 NSCLC patients from three datasets were included. Radiomics features were extracted from segmented 3-dimensional tumour volumes and were z-score normalized for further analysis. In transcriptomics level, 186 pathways and 28 types of immune cells were assessed by using the Gene Set Variation Analysis (GSVA) algorithm. NSCLC patients were categorized into subgroups based on their radiomic features and pathways enrichment scores using consensus clustering. Subgroup-specific radiomics features were used to validate clustering performance and prognostic value. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis with the log-rank test and univariable and multivariable Cox analyses were conducted to explore survival differences among the subgroups. Results: Three radiotranscriptomics subtypes (RTSs) were identified based on the radiomics and pathways enrichment profiles. The three RTSs were characterized as having specific molecular hallmarks: RTS1 (proliferation subtype), RTS2 (metabolism subtype), and RTS3 (immune activation subtype). RTS3 showed increased infiltration of most immune cells. The RTS stratification strategy was validated in a validation cohort and showed significant prognostic value. Survival analysis demonstrated that the RTS strategy could stratify NSCLC patients according to prognosis (p = 0.009), and the RTS strategy remained an independent prognostic indicator after adjusting for other clinical parameters. Conclusions: This radiotranscriptomics study provides a stratification strategy for NSCLC that could provide information for radiomics feature molecular annotation and prognostic prediction. Purpose: Although total en bloc spondylectomy (TES) is strongly recommended for spinal giant cell tumor (GCT), it is extremely difficult to excise a L5 neoplasm intactly through the single-stage posterior approach. Given the risk of neurological and vascular injury, intralesional curettage (IC) is usually recommended for the treatment of L5 GCT. In this study, we presented our experience with the use of an improved TES to treat L5 GCT through the single-stage posterior approach. Methods: This study included 20 patients with L5 GCT who received surgical treatment in our department between September 2010 and April 2021. Of them, seven patients received improved TES without iliac osteotomy, and the other 13 patients received IC (n = 8), sagittal en bloc resection (n = 1), TES with iliac osteotomy (n = 3), and TES with radicotomy (n = 1) as control. Results: The mean operative time was 331.43 ± 92.95 min for improved TES group and 365.77 ± 85.17 min for the control group (p = 0.415), with the mean blood loss of 1142.86 ± 340.87 ml vs. 1969.23 ± 563.30 ml (p = 0.002). Postoperative treatment included bisphosphonates in nine patients and denosumab in 12 patients including one patient who changed from bisphosphonates to denosumab. Three patients who received IC experienced local recurrence, and no relapse was observed in improved TES group. Conclusion: Single-stage posterior TES for L5 GCT was previously considered impossible. In this study, we presented our experience with the use of an improved surgical technique for L5 TES through the single-stage posterior approach, which has proved to be superior to the conventional procedures in terms of blood loss control and complication and recurrence rates. Purpose: To identify molecular basis of four parameters obtained from dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, including functional tumor volume (FTV), longest diameter (LD), sphericity, and contralateral background parenchymal enhancement (BPE). Material and methods: Pretreatment-available gene expression profiling and different treatment timepoints MRI features were integrated for Spearman correlation analysis. MRI feature-related genes were submitted to hypergeometric distribution-based gene functional enrichment analysis to identify related Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes annotation. Gene set variation analysis was utilized to assess the infiltration of distinct immune cells, which were used to determine relationships between immune phenotypes and medical imaging phenotypes. The clinical significance of MRI and relevant molecular features were analyzed to identify their prediction performance of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and prognostic impact. Results: Three hundred and eighty-three patients were included for integrative analysis of MRI features and molecular information. FTV, LD, and sphericity measurements were most positively significantly correlated with proliferation-, signal transmission-, and immune-related pathways, respectively. However, BPE did not show marked correlation relationships with gene expression alteration status. FTV, LD and sphericity all showed significant positively or negatively correlated with some immune-related processes and immune cell infiltration levels. Sphericity decreased at 3 cycles after treatment initiation was also markedly negatively related to baseline sphericity measurements and immune signatures. Its decreased status could act as a predictor for prediction of response to NAC. The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) of China started to provide global services in 2020, which provides a new data source for snow depth sensing through the Global Navigation Satellite System Interferometric Reflectometry (GNSS-IR) technique. This study, taking advantage of two stations in the snow season of 2020, first evaluates the performance of the five state-of-the-art snow depth models on BDS data and provides a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics of BDS data toward snow depth estimations. The results show that the snow depth estimations using the SNR, triple-frequency SNR combination (SNR_COM), and triple-frequency phase combination (F3) models are comparable, with high correlation coefficient R2 (root-mean-square error, RMSE) values of 0.93 (3.17 cm), 0.93 (3.12 cm), and 0.93 (3.27 cm), respectively. The models of geometry-free linear combinations of the phase measurements (L4) and combination of pseudorange and carrier phase of dual-frequency signals (F2C) are slightly poorer, with mean R2 (RMSE) values of 0.69 (7.18 cm) and 0.82 (4.68 cm), respectively. The snow depth retrieval results show similar accuracy using data from the BDS-3 and BDS-2 (RMSE = 3.63 cm vs. 3.72 cm). The results from the IGSO satellites are more reliable than those from the MEO satellites. The effects of satellite elevation angles and sampling rates are also analyzed to determine the optimal parameter selections (i.e., 5°–25° or 5°–30° and sampling rates < 120 s). Objective: Epistaxis after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a common clinical critical illness, which often leads to death of patients. This article focuses on the relationship between massive epistaxis and pseudoaneurysm after radiotherapy in patients with NPC and discusses clinically relevant treatment strategies. Methods: A review was performed in 21 patients with massive epistaxis after radiotherapy for NPC from January 2011 to December 2019, and all of the patients were examined by computed tomography angiography (CTA). We also reviewed the English literature over the past 10 years to analyze the characteristics and related causes of pseudoaneurysms in terms of the clinical stage of NPC, course of radiotherapy, and affected artery. An analysis was performed on the methods of endovascular interventional treatment of such pseudoaneurysms. Results: Among the 21 patients, 19 cases had bone destruction of the skull base; 13 cases were also found to have tumor recurrence; 15 cases were in stage III or IV of NPC; pseudoaneurysms were observed in 14 cases, of which nine cases had pseudoaneurysms in the internal carotid artery (ICA), and the rest had pseudoaneurysms in the external carotid artery (ECA). These data were consistent with the results of the literature review. Analysis with imaging revealed that the petrous ICA was the common predilection site. There were 11 out of 14 cases of pseudoaneurysms with sentinel hemorrhage in the initial phase. All 14 pseudoaneurysm patients underwent endovascular interventional therapy, but one died from hemorrhagic shock during the procedure. No rebleeding was observed among the other patients during 72 h after intravascular treatment. Nevertheless, regrettably two patients died on the 10th and 17th days after intervention. Conclusion: Pseudoaneurysm, which was a serious complication after radiotherapy in patients with NPC, could cause massive epistaxis with high mortality. The formation of a pseudoaneurysm was closely associated with a high carcinoma stage, re-radiotherapy, and local bone destruction and infection. Most cases had sentinel epistaxis, which was considered the bleeding characteristic. The imaging material prompted that pseudoaneurysm had a predisposition to the petrous part of the ICA, while the preferred therapy was endovascular embolization treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to compare self-expandable metallic stent placement with catheter drainage for malignant bilioenteric anastomotic stricture in terms of efficacy and safety.Materials and Methods: This study included 54 patients with malignant bilioenteric anastomotic stricture treated from March 2016 to February 2021. Twenty-seven patients underwent insertion of self-expandable metallic stent (Stent group); the remaining twenty-seven patients underwent internal-external catheter drainage (Catheter group). Technical success was defined as successful placement of stent or drainage catheter in the appropriate position; clinical success was defined as a 20% reduction in serum bilirubin within 1 week after the procedure, compared with baseline. Complications, duration to stent/catheter malfunction, and overall survival were evaluated.Results: Technical success was achieved in all patients in both groups. In the Stent group, 21 patients received one stent and the other 6 patients required two stents. Clinical success rates were similar between the groups [Stent group, 92.6% (25/27); Catheter group, 88.9% (24/27)]. There were no major complications. The median duration to stent/catheter malfunction was significantly longer in the Stent group (130 days) than in the Catheter group (82 days; P = 0.010). The median overall survival was also significantly longer in the Stent group (187 days) than in the Catheter group (118 days; P = 0.038).Conclusion: Self-expandable metallic stent placement might be better than internal-external catheter drainage for malignant bilioenteric anastomotic stricture in terms of the duration before stent/catheter malfunction and patient survival. Immune evasion is key to cancer initiation and later at metastasis, but its dynamics at intermediate stages, where potential therapeutic interventions could be applied, is undefined. Here we show, using multi-dimensional analyses of resected tumours, their adjacent non-tumour tissues and peripheral blood, that extensive immune remodelling takes place in patients with stage I to III hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We demonstrate the depletion of anti-tumoural immune subsets and accumulation of immunosuppressive or exhausted subsets along with reduced tumour infiltration of CD8 T cells peaking at stage II tumours. Corresponding transcriptomic modification occur in the genes related to antigen presentation, immune responses, and chemotaxis. The progressive immune evasion is validated in a murine model of HCC. Our results show evidence of ongoing tumour-immune co-evolution during HCC progression and offer insights into potential interventions to reverse, prevent or limit the progression of the disease. In order to design cancer immune therapies, it is important to understand how tumours evade the immune response that is mounted against them. Plants deploy cell-surface and intracellular leucine rich-repeat domain (LRR) immune receptors to detect pathogens1. LRR receptor kinases and LRR receptor proteins at the plasma membrane recognize microorganism-derived molecules to elicit pattern-triggered immunity (PTI), whereas nucleotide-binding LRR proteins detect microbial effectors inside cells to confer effector-triggered immunity (ETI). Although PTI and ETI are initiated in different host cell compartments, they rely on the transcriptional activation of similar sets of genes2, suggesting pathway convergence upstream of nuclear events. Here we report that PTI triggered by the Arabidopsis LRR receptor protein RLP23 requires signalling-competent dimers of the lipase-like proteins EDS1 and PAD4, and of ADR1 family helper nucleotide-binding LRRs, which are all components of ETI. The cell-surface LRR receptor kinase SOBIR1 links RLP23 with EDS1, PAD4 and ADR1 proteins, suggesting the formation of supramolecular complexes containing PTI receptors and transducers at the inner side of the plasma membrane. We detected similar evolutionary patterns in LRR receptor protein and nucleotide-binding LRR genes across Arabidopsis accessions; overall higher levels of variation in LRR receptor proteins than in LRR receptor kinases are consistent with distinct roles of these two receptor families in plant immunity. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are often enriched in tumors, where their immunosuppressive function has a key role in tumor persistence and progression. In colorectal cancer (CRC), however, Tregs are frequently associated with an improved clinical outcome. Tumor-infiltrating Tregs have been shown to exhibit a distinct signature comprising the co-stimulatory molecules (OX40, 4-1BB), cytokine receptors (IL1R2, IL21R, CCR8, CD30), and co-inhibitory molecules (PD-L1, TIGIT). Here, we showed by flow cytometry that circulating CD45RO+ Tregs from patients with CRC (n = 25) have elevated CD30 and OX40 expression compared to healthy subjects (n = 14). We identified co-expression of CD30 and OX40 on circulating CD45RO+ Tregs using single-cell images captured by the DEPArray™ system. The frequency of CD30+OX40+CD45RO+ Tregs was significantly higher in CRC patients than in healthy subjects (P < 0.001). Importantly, receiver operating characteristic analysis confirmed that this CD30+OX40+ Treg subset could strongly discriminate between CRC patients and healthy subjects with the highest accuracy of 92.3%, an AUC of 0.92, a sensitivity of 88%, a specificity of 100%, a positive predictive value of 100%, a negative predictive value of 82.35%, and a trade-off value of 3.44%, compared to other Treg subsets. Consistently, multiplex-IHC/IF of tumor-infiltrating Tregs revealed a significant association between high densities of CD30+OX40+ Tregs and improved overall survival; no such association was found for other subsets. The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of miR-34c on PDGF-BB-induced HAVSMCs phenotypic transformation and proliferation via PDGFR-β/SIRT1 pathway, so as to find a new method for early diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. HA-VSMCs were treated with platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) at 0 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h or 36 h to explore the optimal time for phenotypic transformation of VSMCs. And then, PDGF-BB-induced HA-VSMCs were transfected with miR-34c mimics/mimics NC and pcDNA3.1-PDGFR-β/pcDNA3.1-NC to observe cell biological behaviour. CCK8 was used to detect cell proliferation activity. Transwell chamber assay was used to detect cell invasion. Early apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry. The expression of α-SMA and Smemb was detected by immunofluorescence staining. The expressions of PDGFR-β, IRF9, Acetyl-NF-κB/p65, Acetyl-p53 and CyclinD1 were analyzed by Western blot analysis. The expression of miR-34a, miR-34b and miR-34c was detected by RT-PCR, and the targeting relationship between miR-34c and PDGFR-β was detected by luciferase reporting assay. The results indicated the proliferation and migration of PDGF-BB-induced HA-VSMCs significantly increased, and apoptosis significantly decreased. Besides, α-SMA decreased significantly, while Smemb increased significantly. Furthermore, expressions of PDGFR-β, IRF9, Acetyl-NF-κB/p65, Acetyl-p53 and CyclinD1 increased significantly, and SIRT1 decreased significantly. Experimental results showed that, miR-34c mimics significantly inhibited cell proliferation and migration, and promoted cell apoptosis, and miR-34c inhibitor had the opposite effects. MiR-34c mimics significantly increased α-SMA expression and decreased Smemb expression, while the opposite effects were reflected after transfection with miR-34c inhibitor. Moreover, miR-34c mimics significantly decreased the expressions of PDGFR-β, IRF9, Acetyl-NF-κB/p65, Acetyl-p53 and CyclinD1, and significantly increased the expression of SIRT1, while miR-34c inhibitor had the opposite effects. Luciferase assay confirmed that PDGFR-β was a potential target of miR-34c. Subsequently, PDGF-BB-induced HA-VSMCs were co-transfected with miR-34c mimics and pcDNA3.1-PDGFR-β. The results indicated that PDGFR-β reversed the biological function of miR-34c mimic. The results revealed the potential application value of miR-34c as a marker molecule of phenotypic transformation, providing a potential target for improving phenotypic transformation. The clinical relevance of immune landscape intratumoural heterogeneity (immune-ITH) and its role in tumour evolution remain largely unexplored. Here, we uncover significant spatial and phenotypic immune-ITH from multiple tumour sectors and decipher its relationship with tumour evolution and disease progression in hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC). Immune-ITH is associated with tumour transcriptomic-ITH, mutational burden and distinct immune microenvironments. Tumours with low immune-ITH experience higher immunoselective pressure and escape via loss of heterozygosity in human leukocyte antigens and immunoediting. Instead, the tumours with high immune-ITH evolve to a more immunosuppressive/exhausted microenvironment. This gradient of immune pressure along with immune-ITH represents a hallmark of tumour evolution, which is closely linked to the transcriptome-immune networks contributing to disease progression and immune inactivation. Remarkably, high immune-ITH and its transcriptomic signature are predictive for worse clinical outcome in HCC patients. This in-depth investigation of ITH provides evidence on tumour-immune co-evolution along HCC progression. Intratumoural heterogeneity is a feature of liver cancer. Neural networks, as an important computing model, have a wide application in artificial intelligence (AI) domain. From the perspective of computer science, such a computing model requires a formal description of its behaviors, particularly the relation between input and output. In addition, such specifications ought to be verified automatically. ReLU (rectified linear unit) neural networks are intensively used in practice. In this paper, we present ReLU Temporal Logic (ReTL), whose semantics is defined with respect to ReLU neural networks, which could specify value-related properties about the network. We show that the model checking algorithm for the Σ2 ∪ Π2 fragment of ReTL, which can express properties such as output reachability, is decidable in EXPSPACE. Oncolytic virus (OV) immunotherapy is characterized by viruses which specifically target cancer cells and cause their cytolysis. They provide a unique and promising new tool for the eradication of cancer as they interact with and affect the tumor microenvironment (TME), vasculature, and immune system. Advancements of genetic engineering have allowed for these viruses to be armed in such a way to have enhanced targeting, strong immunomodulation properties, and an ability to modify the TME. However, there are still major limitations in their use, mostly due to difficulties in delivering the viral particles to the tumors and in ensuring that the immunomodulatory properties are able to stimulate the host immune response to mount a complete response. Using novel delivery systems and using OVs as a complementary therapy in a combinatorial treatment have shown some significant successes. In this review, we discuss the major issues and difficulties in using OVs as anti-tumor agents and some of the strategies put in place so far to overcome these limitations. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a bioactive sphingo-lipid with a broad range of activities coupled to its role in G-protein coupled receptor signalling. Monitoring of both intra and extra cellular levels of this lipid is challenging due to its low abundance and lack of robust affinity assays or sensors. We here report on fluorescent sensory core-shell molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) particles responsive to near physiologically relevant levels of S1P and the S1P receptor modulator fingolimod phosphate (FP) in spiked human serum samples. Imprinting was achieved using the tetrabutylammonium (TBA) salt of FP or phosphatidic acid (DPPA·Na) as templates in combination with a polymerizable nitrobenzoxadiazole (NBD)-urea monomer with the dual role of capturing the phospho-anion and signalling its presence. The monomers were grafted from ca 300 nm RAFT-modified silica core particles using ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as crosslinker resulting in 10–20 nm thick shells displaying selective fluorescence response to the targeted lipids S1P and DPPA in aqueous buffered media. Potential use of the sensory particles for monitoring S1P in serum was demonstrated on spiked serum samples, proving a linear range of 18–60 µM and a detection limit of 5.6 µM, a value in the same range as the plasma concentration of the biomarker. miR-548-3p is one of the members of miR-548 family, a large primate-specific miRNA gene family. The role of miR-548-3p in lung cancer was less studied. In this study, we found the expression of miR-548-3p was lower both in clinical tumor specimens and lung cancer cells compared with normal controls. In vitro, miR-548-3p inhibited lung cancer cell growth and promoted cell apoptosis at the S stage of cell cycle. The underlying mechanism of miR-548b-3p-induced cell proliferation inhibition and apoptosis may be associated with the inhibition of PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. In vivo, miR-548b-3p also suppressed tumor growth in xenografts model of lung cancer cells. Our results indicated that miR-548b-3p might be an anti-tumor target of lung cancer in the future. Objective: To verify whether the pedicle screw placement (PSP) skills of young surgeons receiving immersive virtual reality surgical simulator (IVRSS) training could be improved effectively and whether the IVRSS-PSP training mode could produce a real clinical value in clinical surgery.Methods: Twenty-four young surgeons were equally randomized to a VR group and a NON-VR group. Participants in VR group received IVRSS-PSP training, and those in NON-VR group used the conventional model of observing a spinal model first and then watching a teaching video of spinal surgery for 40 minutes x five. The nailing outcome of the participants before and after training was evaluated by statistical analysis in both groups.Results: Post-training data analysis showed that the success rate and accuracy rate of screw placement in VR group and NON-VR group were 82.9% and 69.6% vs. 74.2% and 55.4%, respectively, showing statistically significant differences between the two groups by chi-square test (P < 0.05).Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that IVRSS-PSP was helpful to improve the success rate of PSP for young surgeons, and may provide valuable reference for PSP training of young surgeons. Energy circulation in geospace lies at the heart of space weather research. In the inner magnetosphere, the steep plasmapause boundary separates the cold dense plasmasphere, which corotates with the planet, from the hot ring current/plasma sheet outside. Theoretical studies suggested that plasmapause surface waves related to the sharp inhomogeneity exist and act as a source of geomagnetic pulsations, but direct evidence of the waves and their role in magnetospheric dynamics have not yet been detected. Here, we show direct observations of a plasmapause surface wave and its impacts during a geomagnetic storm using multi-satellite and ground-based measurements. The wave oscillates the plasmapause in the afternoon-dusk sector, triggers sawtooth auroral displays, and drives outward-propagating ultra-low frequency waves. We also show that the surface-wave-driven sawtooth auroras occurred in more than 90% of geomagnetic storms during 2014–2018, indicating that they are a systematic and crucial process in driving space energy dissipation. CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) ceramics with desirable dielectric properties were prepared by a green gelcasting forming method combined with pressureless sintering. A non-toxic natural macromolecule, glutinous rice flour (GRF) was used as the gelling agent for the gelcasting process. The significant parameter, namely, the dosage of gelling agent was carefully studied so as to optimize the gelcasting process. The results showed that the dosage of GRF had evident effect on both gelcasting process and the final dielectric properties of CCTO ceramics. CCTO ceramics from the green body solidified with 3.5 wt% GRF showed relatively optimal dielectric properties, namely a dielectric constant up to 1.60 × 104 and a loss of only 0.063 (at 1 kHz test frequency). A disturbance of reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis may cause the pathogenesis of many diseases. Inspired by natural photosynthesis, this work proposes a photo-driven H2-evolving liposomal nanoplatform (Lip NP) that comprises an upconversion nanoparticle (UCNP) that is conjugated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) via a ROS-responsive linker, which is encapsulated inside the liposomal system in which the lipid bilayer embeds chlorophyll a (Chla). The UCNP functions as a transducer, converting NIR light into upconversion luminescence for simultaneous imaging and therapy in situ. Functioning as light-harvesting antennas, AuNPs are used to detect the local concentration of ROS for FRET biosensing, while the Chla activates the photosynthesis of H2 gas to scavenge local excess ROS. The results thus obtained indicate the potential of using the Lip NPs in the analysis of biological tissues, restoring their ROS homeostasis, possibly preventing the initiation and progression of diseases. Hydrogen can be used to reduce the concentration of reactive oxygen species (ROS), but its delivery to diseased tissues is challenging due to its low solubility. Autophagy receptor p62/SQSTM1 promotes the assembly and removal of ubiquitylated proteins by forming p62 bodies and mediating their encapsulation in autophagosomes. Here we show that under nutrient-deficient conditions, cellular p62 specifically undergoes acetylation, which is required for the formation and subsequent autophagic clearance of p62 bodies. We identify K420 and K435 in the UBA domain as the main acetylation sites, and TIP60 and HDAC6 as the acetyltransferase and deacetylase. Mechanically, acetylation at both K420 and K435 sites enhances p62 binding to ubiquitin by disrupting UBA dimerization, while K435 acetylation also directly increases the UBA-ubiquitin affinity. Furthermore, we show that acetylation of p62 facilitates polyubiquitin chain-induced p62 phase separation. Our results suggest an essential role of p62 acetylation in the selective degradation of ubiquitylated proteins in cells under nutrient stress, by specifically regulating the assembly of p62 bodies. Background: Surgical resection represents the main therapeutic method for sacral chordoma, but plans for resection mode must weigh neurological loss against complete tumor excision, a difficult balance to strike. The purpose of this study was to provide useful information contributing to surgical decision making in sacral chordoma. Methods: A retrospective review was performed on 47 patients with large sacral chordoma. Prognostic factors affecting recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed using the Kaplan–Meier method and Cox proportional hazards model. Quality of life was assessed by the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G) questionnaire and compared using Student's t test. Results: Resection mode was the independent prognostic factor affecting RFS, while independent prognostic factors affecting OS were resection mode and postoperative recurrence. As for quality of life, the en bloc resection group showed a higher score in emotional well-being, while the piecemeal resection group scored better in function well-being. No significant difference was identified in total the FACT-G score between two groups. Conclusions: On the one hand, en bloc resection showed huge advantages in disease control for sacral chordoma. Background: To investigate the clinical significance of five inflammatory biomarkers and conventional clinical parameters in prognostic prediction of spinal chondrosarcoma.Methods: Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to investigate independent prognostic factors for recurrence and death of patients with spinal chondrosarcoma. Disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were estimated by Kaplan-Meier curve, and differences were analyzed by log-rank test. The optimal cutoff values for NLR, PLR, LMR, and CAR were determined by X-tile program.Results: The optimal cutoff value for NLR, PLR, LMR, AGR, and CAR was 2.7, 200, 3.0, 1.5, and 0.2, respectively. Of the 150 patients included, recurrence was detected in 105 patients, and death occurred in 78 patients. Multivariate analysis indicated that Tomita I-III, total resection, and CAR < 0.2 were significantly associated with longer DFS. Meanwhile, preoperative Frankel score D-E, total resection, and CAR < 0.2 were favorable prognostic factors for OS. Subtype analysis showed that only total resection was an independent prognostic factor for DFS of recurrent spinal chondrosarcoma.Conclusion: Total resection could significantly reduce the recurrence rate of spinal chondrosarcoma and improve OS of chondrosarcoma patients. Tomita classification I-III was a favorable factor for DFS, and preoperative Frankel score A-C was an adverse prognostic factor for OS. The objective of this study was to systemically and comprehensively evaluate the associations between smoking and disease outcomes in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Information on smoking, clinical features, and sociodemographic characteristics was collected by a questionnaire administered directly to the patient. Group differences were analyzed by t test or chi-square test. Logistic regression analysis was conducted with the Bath AS Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Bath AS Functional Index (BASFI), C-reactive protein, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate as the dependent variables and different stratification of smoking duration, smoking intensity, and cumulative smoking as independent variables. In order to compare our results with previous studies, meta-analysis was performed to calculate standardized mean difference (SMD) for relationship between outcomes and smoking status. A total of 1178 AS patients were analyzed. Compared with non-smokers, the risk of having active disease (BASDAI ≥ 4) was higher in patients who smoked at least 15 years, or 15 cigarettes per day, or 15 pack-years (OR = 1.70 [1.06, 2.73], 1.75 [1.08, 2.82], and 1.97 [1.06, 3.67], respectively); and smokers had increasing risk of BASDAI ≥ 4 with increasing years of smoking, or cigarettes per day, or pack-years (p-trend = 0.010, 0.008 and 0.006, respectively). The risk of having active disease was higher in patients who smoked at least 15 cigarettes per day or 15 pack-years (OR = 1.74 [1.06, 2.84] and 2.89 [1.56, 5.35], respectively), with increasing number of cigarettes per day and pack-years. Smokers had an increased risk of BASFI ≥ 4 (p-trend = 0.040 and 0.007, respectively). By meta-analysis, current, former and ever smokers had significantly higher BASDAI (SMD = 0.34 [0.18, 0.48], 0.10 [0.01, 0.19], and 0.27 [0.20, 0.34], respectively) and BASFI (SMD = 0.35 [0.16, 0.55], 0.30 [0.22, 0.39], and 0.35 [0.21, 0.50], respectively) compared to non-smokers. Dynamic optimization problems are constrained by differential and algebraic equations and are found everywhere in science and engineering. A well-established method to solve these types of problems is direct transcription, where the differential equations are replaced with discretized approximations based on finite-difference or Runge-Kutta schemes. However, for problems with thousands of state variables and discretization points, direct transcription may result in nonlinear optimization problems which are too large for general-purpose optimization solvers to handle. Also, when an interior-point solver is applied, the dominant computational cost is solving the linear systems resulting from the Newton step. For large-scale nonlinear programming problems, these linear systems may become prohibitively expensive to solve. Furthermore, the systems also become too large to formulate and store in memory of a standard computer. On the other hand, direct transcription can exploit sparsity and structure of the linear systems in order to overcome these challenges. In this paper we investigate and compare two parallel linear decomposition algorithms, Cyclic Reduction (CR) and Schur complement decomposition, which take advantage of structure and sparsity. We describe the numerical conditioning of the CR algorithm when applied to the linear systems arising from dynamic optimization problems, and then compare CR with Schur complement decomposition on a number of test problems. Purpose: Multi-level reconstruction incorporating the chest wall and ribs is technically demanding after multi-segmental total en bloc spondylectomy (TES) of thoracic spinal tumours. Few surgical techniques are reported for effective reconstruction. A novel and straightforward technical reconstruction through posterior-lateral approach was presented to solve the extensive chest wall defect and prevent occurrences of severe respiratory dysfunctions after performing TES. The preliminary outcomes of surgery were reviewed.Methods: Multi-level TES was performed for five patients with primary or recurrent thoracic spinal malignancies through posterior-lateral approach. The involved ribs and chest wall were removed to achieve tumour-free margin. Then titanium mesh with allograft bone and pedicle screw-rod system were adopted for the circumferential spinal reconstruction routinely. Titanium rods were modified accordingly to attach to the screw-rod system proximally, and the distal end of rods was dynamically inserted into the ribs.Results: The mean surgery time was 6.7 hours (range 5-8), with the average blood loss of 3260 ml (range 2300-4500). No severe neurological complications were reported while three patients had complaints of slight numbness of chest skin (no. 1, 3, and 5). No severe respiratory complications occurred during peri-operative period. No implant failure and no local recurrence or distant metastases were observed with an average follow-up of 12.5 months.Conclusions: The single-stage reconstructions incorporating spine and chest wall are straightforward and easy to perform. The metabolic characteristics of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or diabetes mellitus (DM) have been studied, but the metabolic abnormalities of RA patients complicated with DM are not completely understood. Therefore, we recruited RA patients with DM to investigate the metabolic abnormalities in these patients. We collected data of RA patients with DM and age- and sex-matched RA and DM patients from Changhai Hospital's electronic medical record system. Data of demographically matched healthy controls were also collected from the health management system of the Hangzhou Sanatorium of People's Liberation Army. Blood pressure, uric acid, glucose, and lipid levels were compared. The clinical data of RA with DM ( n = 104), DM ( n = 100), and RA ( n = 100) patients and healthy controls ( n = 100) were collected and compared. RA patients with DM had higher blood pressure and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels than the other three groups, a higher triglycerides (TG) level than healthy controls and RA patients, and a lower TG level than DM patients. RA patients with DM exhibited a relatively high proportion of metabolic abnormalities based on existing standards. Our study examined metabolic abnormalities in RA patients with DM for the first time, and our results suggest that clinicians should pay more attention to the metabolic abnormalities of RA patients with DM. Rationale: Environmental enrichment (EE) could influence brain plasticity and behavior in rodents. Whether the early EE may predispose individuals to a particular social hierarchy in the social dominance tube test (SDTT) at adulthood is still unknown. Objective: The present study directly investigated the influence of EE on competitive success in the SDTT among adult rats. Methods: Male rats were maintained in EE from postnatal days 21 to 35. Social dominance behavior was determined by SDTT, competitive food foraging test, and mate preference test at adulthood. IBA-1 expression in the hypothalamus was examined using immunohistochemistry and western blot. Results: EE rats were prone to become submissive during a social encounter with standard environment (SE) rats in the SDTT. No difference was found in food foraging in the competitive food foraging test between SE and EE rats. Male EE rats were more attractive than the SE to the female rats in the mate preference test. IBA-1 expression was found to be decreased in the hypothalamus of EE rats compared to SE group. Infusion of a microglia inhibitor reduced percentage of forward in SE rats in the SDTT. Infusion of DNA methyltransferase inhibitor prevented the development of subordinate status in EE rats and restored the expression of IBA-1 in the hypothalamus. Conclusions: The results suggest that early EE did not lead to reduced social hierarchy in the male rat. Study Design: Eighteen consecutive patients with adult-onset intradural spinal teratoma underwent surgical treatment in our center from 1998 to 2013.Background and Purpose: Teratoma is defined as a neoplasm composed of elements derived from three germ cell layers (ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm). Intraspinal teratoma is extremely rare and accounts for 0.2-0.5% of all spinal cord tumors. Moreover, teratoma occurs primarily in neonates and young children. Adult-onset intradural spinal teratoma is even rare. The aim of this study was to discuss the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and therapeutic strategies of adult-onset intradural spinal teratoma.Methods: This retrospective study included 18 consecutive adult patients with intradural teratoma who were surgically treated in our center between 1998 and 2013. The clinical features, pathogenesis, diagnostic strategies and surgical outcomes were discussed. Neurological function outcomes were evaluated by the JOA scoring system.Results: Of the 18 included patients, 4 patients received subtotal resection and the other 14 patients received total resection. All the 18 cases were diagnosed with mature teratoma. The mean follow-up period was 79.7 (median 60.5; range 27-208) months. Local recurrence occurred in two of the four patients who underwent subtotal resection and in no patient who underwent total resection. The neurologic status improved in 16 cases and remained unchanged in the other two patients.Conclusions: Adult-onset intradural spinal teratoma is extremely rare. To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest series of patients with this disease. Barrier methods have led to several nonlinear programming (NLP) solvers (e.g. IPOPT, KNITRO, LOQO). However, certain regularity conditions are required for convergence of these methods. These conditions are violated for optimization models with dependent constraints, thus leading to method failure. These shortcomings can be identified by checking the inertia of the KKT matrix, and current solvers either add regularizing terms to correct the inertia of the KKT matrix or revert to more expensive trust region methods to solve the barrier problem. This study improves on these approaches with a new structured regularization strategy; within the Newton step it identifies an independent subset of equality constraints and removes the remaining constraints without modifying the KKT matrix structure. This approach leads to more accurate Newton steps and faster convergence, while maintaining global convergence properties. Implemented in IPOPT with linear solvers HSL_MA57, HSL_MA97 and MUMPS, we present numerical experiments on hundreds of examples from the CUTEr test set, modified for dependency. These results show an average reduction in iterations of more than 50 % over the current version of IPOPT. Little information has been published in the literature regarding survival outcomes of patients with Ewing's sarcoma family tumors (ESFTs) of the spine. The purpose of this study is to explore factors that may affect the prognosis of patients with non-metastatic spinal ESFTs. A retrospective analysis of survival outcomes was performed in patients with non-metastatic spinal ESFTs. Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to identify prognostic factors for recurrence and survival. Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were defined as the date of surgery to the date of local relapse and death. Kaplan-Meier methods were applied to estimate RFS and OS. Log-rank test was used to analyze single factors for RFS and OS. Factors with p values ≤0.1 were subjected to multivariate analysis. A total of 63 patients with non-metastatic spinal ESFTs were included in this study. The mean follow-up period was 35.1 months (range 1-155). Postoperative recurrence was detected in 25 patients, and distant metastasis and death occurred in 22 and 36 patients respectively. The result of multivariate analysis suggested that age older than 25 years and neoadjuvant chemotherapy were favorable independent prognostic factors for RFS and OS. In addition, total en-bloc resection, postoperative chemotherapy, radiotherapy and non-distant metastasis were favorable independent prognostic factors for OS. Age older than 25 years and neoadjuvant chemotherapy are favorable prognostic factors for both RFS and OS. Micro pin fin heat sink has been widely utilized to cool high-heat-flux devices in a variety of industrial fields, such as microelectronic, nuclear, and aerospace devices. The fabrication of micro pin fins is critical for the development of pin fin heat sink cooling systems. In this study, a laser micromilling method is proposed to process circular micro pin fins (CMPFs) in pure copper plates. A pulsed fiber laser is used, and multiple-pass reciprocating scanning is conducted. The effects of processing parameters, i.e., laser output power, scanning speed, and scanning times, on the geometric dimensions of CMPFs are systematically assessed together with the metal removing mechanisms. The results show that the height of micro pin fins increased greatly with increasing laser output power and scanning times, while it decreased with the increase in scanning speeds. Nevertheless, a reversed trend was noted for the bottom width between two pin fins. The top width was notably dependent on the laser output power. These results are believed to be closely related to the energy density and remelting process during the laser micromilling process. Furthermore, the effects of pin fins diameter on the geometric dimensions of CMPFs were also explored. This study sheds some lights on the fabrication of circular micro pin fins for their promising applications in heat sink cooling systems and is believed to be of practical importance. In this paper, we address the problem of verifying probabilistic and epistemic properties in concurrent probabilistic systems expressed in PCTLK. PCTLK is an extension of the Probabilistic Computation Tree Logic (PCTL) augmented with Knowledge (K). In fact, PCTLK enjoys two epistemic modalities K for knowledge and $Pr_{\triangledown b}K_{i}$ for probabilistic knowledge. The approach presented for verifying PCTLK specifications in such concurrent systems is based on a transformation technique. More precisely, we convert PCTLK model checking into the problem of model checking Probabilistic Branching Time Logic (PBTL), which enjoys path quantifiers in the range of adversaries. We then prove that model checking a formula of PCTLK in concurrent probabilistic programs is PSPACE-complete. Furthermore, we represent models associated with PCTLK logic symbolically with Multi-Terminal Binary Decision Diagrams (MTBDDs), which are supported by the probabilistic model checker PRISM. Finally, an application, namely the NetBill online shopping payment protocol, and an example about synchronization illustrated through the dining philosophers problem are implemented with the MTBDD engine of this model checker to verify probabilistic epistemic properties and evaluate the practical complexity of this verification. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are potent and established recognition phases in separation and enrichment applications. Because of their robustness, versatility and format adaptability, they also constitute very promising sensing phases, especially when the active sensing element is directly integrated into the MIP. Fluorescent MIPs incorporating fluorescent monomers are perhaps the best developed and most successful approach here. This article reviews the state of the art in this field, discussing the pros and cons of the use of fluorescent dye and probe derivatives as such monomers, the different molecular interaction forces for template complexation, signalling modes and a variety of related approaches that have been realized over the years, including Förster resonance energy transfer processes, covalent imprinting, postmodification attachment of fluorescent units and conjugated polymers as MIPs; other measurement schemes and sensing chemistries that use MIPs and fluorescence interrogation to solve analytical problems (fluorescent competitive assays, fluorescent analytes, etc.) are not covered here. Throughout the article, photophysical processes are discussed to facilitate understanding of the effects that can occur when one is planning for a fluorescence response to happen in a constrained polymer matrix. DMSP/OLS nighttime light (NTL) image is a widely used data source for urbanization studies. Although OLS NTL data are able to map nighttime luminosity, the identification accuracy of distribution of urban areas (UAD) is limited by the overestimation of the lit areas resulting from the coarse spatial resolution. In view of geographical condition, we integrate NTL with Biophysical Composition Index (BCI) and propose a new spectral index, the BCI Assisted NTL Index (BANI) to capture UAD. Comparisons between BANI approach and NDVI-assisted SVM classification are carried out using UAD extracted from Landsat TM/ETM+ data as reference. Results show that BANI is capable of improving the accuracy of UAD extraction using NTL data. The average overall accuracy (OA) and Kappa coefficient of sample cities increased from 88.53% to 95.10% and from 0.56 to 0.84, respectively. Moreover, with regard to cities with more mixed land covers, the accuracy of extraction results is high and the improvement is obvious. For other cities, the accuracy also increased to varying degrees. Hence, BANI approach could achieve better UAD extraction results compared with NDVI-assisted SVM method, suggesting that the proposed method is a reliable alternative method for a large-scale urbanization study in China's mainland. A GPS-based method is presented to measure vegetation water content. Commercially available geodetic-quality GPS receivers and antennas are used. The method is tested using GPS measurements collected over three field seasons. The GPS data are compared with in situ data for three plant types: desert grass, wheat, and alfalfa. The GPS retrievals of vegetation water content are based on the GPS signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) data. Instrumental issues that affect the SNR data are discussed, particularly satellite transmit power variations, footprint variations, and temperature effects. The amplitudes of the SNR data show a nearly linear relationship to the water content in grasses (0-0.5 kg/m) and wheat crops (0-0.9 kg/m). As predicted by theory, this simple linear relationship breaks down in vegetation with heavy water content, such as alfalfa. The field results are consistent with forward model predictions, whose effect restricts the use of this simple linear model for vegetation to water content of less than ~1 kg/m. This study, using laboratory experiments and scaling analysis, evaluates the influence of geothermal heating on global oceanic circulation. Upon a well-developed large-scale convective flow, an additional heat flux perturbation δ F/ F is employed. The increments of flow and thermal properties, including eddy diffusivity K, flow velocity V and bottom temperature T, are found to be independent of the applied heat flux F. Together with the scaling analysis of convective flow at different configurations, where the flow is thermally driven in the relatively low or extremely high turbulent thermal convections or the horizontal convection, the variances of flow properties, δ K/ K and δ V/ V, are found to be close to 0.5% and 0.75% at δ F/ F=2%. This means that the small heat flux perturbation plays a negligible role in the global convective flow. However, δ T/Δ T is found to be 1.5% at δ F/ F=2%, which would have a significant effect in the local region. The results might provide a clue to understanding the influence of geothermal heating on global oceanic circulation. It is expected that geothermal heating will contribute less than 1% in turbulent mixing and volume flux to global oceanic circulation, so its influence can be negligible in this situation. However, when it comes to the local environment, the influence of geothermal heating cannot be ignored. xSm(MgTi)O-(1 − x)CaSrTiO (x = 0.50-0.95) ceramics are prepared by a conventional solid-state ceramic route. The microstructure and microwave dielectric properties are investigated as a function of the x-value and sintering temperature. The single phase solid solutions were obtained throughout the studied compositional range. The variation of bulk density and dielectric properties are related with the x-value. Increasing sintering temperature can effectively promote the densification and dielectric properties of xSm(MgTi)O-(1 − x)CaSrTiO ceramic system. With the content of Sm(MgTi)O increasing, the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency τ value decreased, and a near-zero τ could be obtained for the samples with x = 0.80. The optimal microwave dielectric properties with a dielectric constant ε of 30.1, Q × f of 115,000 GHz (at 8.0 GHz), and τ of 8.9 ppm/°C were obtained for 0.80Sm(MgTi)O-0.20CaSrTiO sintered at 1,550 °C for 3 h, which showed high density and well-developed grain growth.
