Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF-21) has been suggested as a potential therapeutic target for insulin resistance in health-related metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes. Despite the metabolic effects of resistance (RT) and aerobic training (AT) on diabetes symptoms, uncertainty exists regarding the superiority of effects manifested through these training approaches on FGF-21 and biochemical and physiological variables associated with metabolic disorders in men diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. This study aimed to investigate the impact of a 12-week RT and AT on FGF-21 levels and symptoms associated with metabolic disorders in male individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Thirty-six sedentary obese diabetic men (40 to 45 years old) were matched based on the level of FGF-1. They and were randomly divided into two training groups (RT, n = 12 and AT, n = 12) performing three days per week of moderate-intensity RT or AT for 12 weeks and an inactive control group (n = 12). Both training interventions significantly improved FGF-21, glucose metabolism, lipid profile, hormonal changes, strength, and aerobic capacity. Subgroup analysis revealed that RT had greater adaptive responses (p < 0.01) in fasting blood sugar (ES = -0.52), HOMA-IR (ES = -0.87), testosterone (ES = 0.52), cortisol (ES = -0.82), FGF-21 (ES = 0.61), and maximal strength (ES = 1.19) compared to AT. Conversely, AT showed greater changes (p < 0.01) in cholesterol (ES = -0.28), triglyceride (ES = -0.64), HDL (ES = 0.46), LDL (ES = -0.73), and aerobic capacity (ES = 1.18) compared to RT. Overall, both RT and AT interventions yielded significant moderate to large ES in FGF-21 levels and enhanced the management of biochemical variables. RT is an effective method for controlling FGF-21 levels and glucose balance, as well as for inducing hormonal changes. Purpose: The original aim of the study was to determine, in a double-blind 3-arm crossover human trial (n = 7), the effect of supplemental levels of iron (25 mg) and zinc (30 mg) on β-carotene (synthetic) bioavailability (10 h postprandial). However, despite the high dose of supplemental β-carotene (15 mg) consumed with the high fat (18 g), dairy-based breakfast test meal, there was a negligible postprandial response in plasma and triglyceride rich fraction β-carotene concentrations. We then systematically investigated the possible reasons for this low bioavailability of β-carotene. Methods: We determined (1) if the supplemental β-carotene could be micellised and absorbed by epithelial cells, using a Caco-2 cell model, (2) if the fat from the test meal was sufficiently bioavailable to facilitate β-carotene bioavailability, (3) the extent to which the β-carotene could have been metabolised and converted to retinoic acid/retinol and (4) the effect of the test meal matrix on the β-carotene bioaccessibility (in vitro digestion) and Caco-2 cellular uptake. Results: We found that (1) The supplemental β-carotene could be micellised and absorbed by epithelial cells, (2) the postprandial plasma triacylglycerol response was substantial (approximately 75–100 mg dL−1 over 10 h), indicating sufficient lipid bioavailability to ensure β-carotene absorption, (3) the high fat content of the meal (approximately 18 g) could have resulted in increased β-carotene metabolism, (4) β-carotene bioaccessibility from the dairy-based test meal was sixfold lower (p < 0.05) than when digested with olive oil. Conclusion: The low β-carotene bioavailability is probably due to a combination of the metabolism of β-carotene to retinol by BCMO1 and interactions of β-carotene with the food matrix, decreasing the bioaccessibility. The current study examines the phycoremediation potential cum biomass productivity and biomass quality of hitherto uninvestigated five algae in Bold's Basal Medium (BBM) of varying nitrogen (½ to 4 × N), phosphorus (½ to 4 × P), and both together (½ to 2 × NP) with varying N:P. All five algae displayed unique responses in biomass productivity, lipid yield and productivity, and nitrogen (N) and phosphorous (P) removal efficiency. Chlorolobion braunii exhibited the highest biomass productivity (107 to 109.23 mg/L/ day) in N-rich media (3 to 4 × N in BBM), and Monoraphidium contortum exhibited the highest biomass productivity (103.66 mg/L/day) in P-rich media (2 to 4 × P in BBM). All the algae exhibited a higher lipid yield and productivity in BBM with a reduced ratio of N:P (0.85 to 1.47) from a lesser addition of N (½ × N or NP in BBM). Monoraphidium contortum exhibited significantly higher lipid yield (44.38%) and productivity (35.94 mg/L/day) than other species. The lipid content of four species demonstrated high-quality biofuel properties. Halochlorella rubescens exhibited the maximum nitrogen removal efficiency of 96% (in BBM), and Monoraphidium contortum exhibited the maximum phosphorus removal efficiency of 94.4% (2 × NP in BBM). Overall, the experiments stand as a model for understanding the influence of variations in N and P concerning N:P on biomass productivity, lipid content, lipid productivity, and N and P removal rate and efficiency of algae for initial standardization of the culture protocols for further industrial trials. Hypertension, substantially heightens the risk of cardiovascular disease. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of freeze-dried garlic extract in blood pressure and lipid profiles in prehypertensive individuals.Participants (age of 30–70 years) were allocated to intervention (n=47) or control (n=49) groups. The intervention group received two capsules of freeze-dried garlic extract daily for eight weeks, while the control group received identical placebo capsules. Primary outcomes, SBP, DBP, PP, MAP, TC, TG, LDL and HDL levels, serum NO levels, were assessed at baseline, four weeks, and eight weeks.At the end of study, results showed significant changes in the values of SBP, DBP, and MAP except for PP. In comparison to those who received the placebo, a significant drop in SBP, DBP (p<0.001), and MAP (p<0.001) was observed in the intervention group. Also, there were significant changes in TG, LDL, TC, and HDL levels in the interventional group. A noticeable decline was reported in TG (p<0.001), LDL (p<0.001), and TC (p<0.001), while HDL levels increased (p<0.001) in the intervention group compared to those receiving the placebo. Following garlic supplementation, a significant increase in blood NO levels was reported in the intervention group (p<0.001).The study showed that garlic supplementation was effective in lowering blood pressure, improving lipid profile, and increasing nitric oxide levels in prehypertensive participants. Background: Accumulating evidence has linked dyslipidemia during pregnancy to the risk of delivering infants born either large for gestational age (LGA) or small for gestational age (SGA). However, the effects of the vitamin D status on these relationships require further investigation. This study investigated whether the relationship between lipid profiles and the risk of LGA or SGA was influenced by vitamin D levels during the second trimester. Methods: Maternal lipid profile levels, including total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and vitamin D levels, were measured in a cohort of 6,499 pregnant women during the second trimester. Multivariate regression models and subgroup analyses were employed to evaluate the potential associations between maternal lipid profiles, vitamin D levels, and the risk of LGA or SGA. Results: The prevalence of SGA infants was 9.8% (n=635), whereas that of LGA infants was 6.9% (n=447). Maternal TG levels were found to be positively associated with the risk of LGA (odds ratio [OR] = 1.41, 95% confidence interval [CI]:1.17-1.70), whereas a negative association was observed between maternal TG, TC, LDL-C levels, and risk of SGA. Additionally, mothers with higher HDL-C levels were less likely to give birth to an LGA infant (OR=0.58, 95% CI:0.39-0.85). Importantly, associations between TG, TC, LDL-c, and SGA as well as between TG and LGA were primarily observed among pregnant women with insufficient vitamin D levels. As for HDL-C, the risk of LGA was lower in mothers with sufficient vitamin D (OR = 0.42, 95% CI:0.18-0.98) compared to those with insufficient vitamin D (OR = 0.65, 95% CI:0.42-0.99). Wheat germ (WG), a by-product of flour milling, is rich in bioactive substances that may help improve health complications associated with increased adiposity. This study investigated the effects of WG on gut health, metabolic, and inflammatory markers in adults classified as overweight. We hypothesized that WG, because of its many bioactive components, would improve gut health and metabolic, and inflammatory markers in overweight adults. Forty adults (18–45 years old) and with a body mass index between 25 and 30 kg/m2 participated in this single-blinded randomized controlled pilot study. Participants consumed the study supplements containing 30 g of either cornmeal (control, CL) or WG daily for 4 weeks. Primary outcome variables were gut health markers including gut microbiota, gut integrity markers, and fecal short-chain fatty acids, whereas secondary outcome variables included metabolic and inflammatory parameters assessed at baseline and at the end of supplementation. Thirty-nine participants (n = 19 and 20 for CL and WG group, respectively) completed the study. The genus Faecalibacterium was significantly higher in the WG group compared to CL post-supplementation but no significant changes in other gut health markers, short-chain fatty acids, inflammatory markers, and lipid profiles were observed. Compared with baseline, WG improved markers of glucose homeostasis including insulin (P =.02), homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (P =.03), glycated hemoglobin (P =.07), and the pro-inflammatory adipokine, resistin (P =.04). However, these parameters after intervention were not different with control. Our findings suggest that WG supplementation have modest effects on gut health but may provide an economical option for individuals to improve glycemic control. Daily consumption of 30 g of wheat germ supplement for 4 weeks by adults classified as overweight maintained the bacterial genus Faecalibacterium and improved several markers of glucose homeostasis including insulin, HOMA-IR, and HbA1c, and reduced the pro-inflammatory adipokine, resistin. • Early ovarian cessation even in young women play a role in development of unfavorably altered lipid profile. • Women with newly diagnosed POI exhibited adverse lipid profile along with higher fasting glucose level in contrary to age-matched healthy controls. • Women with non-idiopathic POI present unfavorably altered lipid profile when compared to women with unknown cause of POI. Hypoestrogenism related to the cessation of ovarian function increases the risk of metabolic disorders in postmenopausal women. Women with primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) are exposed to longer period of estrogen deficiency together with a subsequently higher risk of long-term comorbidities. To compare metabolic along with hormonal status among newly diagnosed women with POI with pre- and postmenopausal women. To investigate the impact of POI etiology on both metabolic and hormonal profiles. A case-control study with women assigned to one of the groups: 1) POI (n = 216), 2) age-matched premenopausal (n = 216), 3) postmenopausal (n = 227). Lipid profile, fasting glucose and insulin levels together with insulin resistance were determined among all participants. POI women exhibited increased both total cholesterol (TC, p = 0.04) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C, p < 0.01) compared to the premenopausal women and higher triglycerides (TG, p < 0.001) than postmenopausal women. POI group showed higher fasting glucose level (p = 0.04) differently to premenopausal women. The idiopathic POI group showed both lower sex hormone binding globulin (p = 0.02) and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (p = 0.04) along with reduced TC (p = 0.03) and TG (p = 0.01) together with increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (p = 0.04) levels than non-idiopathic POI women. Women with newly diagnosed POI exhibited less favorable lipid profile than pre- or postmenopausal women. Background: Vitamin C reduces oxidative stress as well as prevents nonenzymatic glycosylation of proteins because of its structural similarity to glucose. This prospective study was conducted to investigate the impact of vitamin C supplementation on glycemic control and serum lipid profile in newly diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Materials and Methods: Adult patients attending the outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital, diagnosed with T2DM within the last 3 months, with fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels exceeding 126 mg/dL, were randomly assigned to either control group (n = 98) or study group (n = 102). The study group received oral vitamin C (1 g/day) in addition to metformin 500 mg twice daily, while the control group received metformin 500 mg twice daily alone. Baseline characteristics, including age, gender, and comorbidities, were recorded. The parameters FBG, postprandial blood glucose (PPBG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and serum lipid profile were measured at baseline and at the 12th week. Results: Both the control and study groups experienced significant reductions in FBG, PPBG, and HbA1c levels after 12 weeks. However, the study group exhibited greater improvements, with FBG decreasing by 22.42 ± 2.7 mg/dL (P < 0.05), PPBG decreasing by 33.25 ± 4.9 mg/dL (P < 0.05), and HbA1c decreasing by 1.33 ± 0.3 g% (P < 0.05). Additionally, both groups demonstrated significant improvements in serum lipid profile parameters, with the study group showing more significant improvements in high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and total cholesterol levels compared to the control group. Conclusion: Vitamin C supplementation as an adjuvant therapy with metformin for 12 weeks produces beneficial effects in T2DM patients, including improved glycemic control and significant improvement in the lipid profile. Background Down syndrome (DS) is the most prevalent chromosomal disorder, being the leading cause of intellectual disability. The increased life expectancy of individuals with DS has led to a shift in the incidence of non-communicable chronic diseases, resulting in new concerns, particularly cardiovascular disease (CVD) and Alzheimer's disease. This study aimed to analyse the blood lipid profile of a large DS cohort to establish a baseline for evaluating health risk parameters. Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted on PubMed and Virtual Health Library databases to identify original articles published before July 2022. Selected studies were included in the meta-analysis. Results Fifteen studies reporting serum lipid levels in individuals with DS were incorporated into the analysis. The meta-analysis used the means and standard deviations extracted from the selected studies. The analysis encompassed 671 participants in the DS group and 898 euploid controls. The results indicated significant differences in total cholesterol [C] (mean difference [MD]: −3.34; CI: 95%: −4.94 to −1.73; P < 0.0001), HDL-C (MD: −3.39; CI: 95%: −6.72 to −0.06; P = 0.05) and triglycerides (MD: 21.48; CI: 95%: 9.32 to 33.65; P = 0.0005) levels between individuals with DS and their control counterparts. Conclusions Individuals with DS have less favourable blood lipid concentrations than their controls, particularly HDL-C, triglycerides, and total-C, even when grouped by age. These findings underscore the importance of closer monitoring of lipid profiles in people with DS and the necessity for specific cut-offs for this population, considering the risk for ischemic heart and Alzheimer's diseases. Lipids are crucial substances for the formation and retention of volatile compounds (VOCs). The lipid and VOC profiles of boiled donkey meat were investigated by lipidomics and volatilomics. In total, 4277 lipids belonging to 39 subclasses were identified, comprising 26.93% triglycerides (TGs), 15.74% phosphatidylcholins (PCs), and 9.40% phosphatidylethanolamines. The relative percentage of TG in the meat significantly decreases (p < 0.001) from 0 to 40 min, after which there is no significant change, whereas PCs, sphingomyelins, and methyl phosphatidylcholines (MePCs) show the opposite trend. TG(16:1_18:1_18:2) and TG(16:0_16:1_18:2) appear to be key lipids for retaining VOCs in boiled donkey meat. Furthermore, PC(18:3e_16:0) and MePC(31:0e) were found to be potential markers for discriminating donkey meat. A total of 83 VOCs were detected, including 25.30% aldehydes, 18.07% hydrocarbons, 14.46% ketones, and 13.25% alcohols. Eleven characteristic VOCs with relative odor activity values >1 were identified as the predominant flavor compounds in boiled donkey meat, mainly hexanal and 1‐octen‐3‐ol. Of the 258 differential lipids, 72 of them, especially polyunsaturated‐fatty acid–rich lipids, are the main contributors to the formation of VOCs. Background: Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.) has the potential to treat diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and obesity. However, the evidence from previous studies is not consistent. Objectives: This meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of products derived from artichokes on blood glucose, lipid level, blood pressure, and anthropometric parameters. Methodology: The literature was reviewed via international databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Scopus). A total of 21 RCTs with high quality, assessed by the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool, were included. Results: Artichoke was linked to a significant reduction in fasting blood sugar (FBS) (WMD: −3.76 mg/dL: 95%CI −7.31, −0.22), insulin level (WMD: −1.35 mIU/L: 95%CI −2.29, −0.41), and HOMA-IR (WMD: −1.00: 95%CI −1.95, −0.06). Similar results were observed for LDL-c (WMD: −12.94 mg/dL: 95%CI −18.02, −7.87), total cholesterol (TC) (WMD: −19.64 mg/dL: 95%CI −23.94, −15.35), and triglyceride (TG) (WMD: −13.36 mg/dL: 95%CI −19.06, −7.66). Moreover, participants who administered artichoke experienced a significant reduction in SBP (WMD: −1.59 mmHg: 95%CI −3.02, −0.16), body weight (BW) (WMD: −1.17 kg: 95%CI −1.75, −0.60), and BMI (WMD: −0.30 kg/m2: 95%CI −3.02, −0.16). Conclusion: Artichoke may improve blood glucose, lipid profile, blood pressure, and anthropometric parameters. The quality of fat in infant milk is determined by the fatty acid profile and selected indices describing nutritional value. The aim of this study was to analyze the fatty acid profile and lipid quality indices of infant formulas and compare these data with breast milk. The study material included seven types of cow's milk-based follow-on infant formulas and samples of mature breast milk. The determination of fatty acids was performed using the gas chromatography (GC) technique. Lipid quality indices were calculated based on the relevant equations. Infant formulas contained more medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) and oleic acid. Moreover, they contained more than 30% more linoleic acid and more than twice as much α-linolenic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. In contrast, significant amounts of trans fatty acids (TFAs) were noted in breast milk, while infant formulas contained trace amounts. Infant formulas were characterized by a lower AI (Index of Atherogenicity) (0.49–0.98) and TI (Index of Thrombogenicity) (0.48–0.60) and a higher H/H (hypocholesterolemic/hypercholesterolemic) ratio (1.93–2.30) compared with breast milk (1.47, 1.60, and 1.21, respectively). The composition of infant formulas depended on the type of fat added at the production stage and differed significantly from breast milk, particularly in terms of polyunsaturated fatty acids and lipid quality indices. Consumption of plum does not yet clearly affect the lipid profile. To ascertain the advantages of plum consumption on adult lipid profiles, we conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis. We used pertinent keywords to search the databases of PubMed, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science up to November 10th, 2022, in order to find trials that were eligible. According to the analyses, eating plum significantly lowers LDL levels compared to controls (WMD: −12.50 mg/dL, 95% CI: −22.06, −2.94, p =.010). Although plum consumption did not result in significant changes in TG (WMD: 0.56 mg/dL, 95% CI: −6.02, 7.15, p =.866), TC (WMD: −12.35 mg/dL, 95% CI: −25.05, 0.37, p =.057), and HDL concentrations (WMD: −0.39 mg/dL, 95% CI: −4.69, 3.89, p =.855) compared to the control group. Intake of plums, particularly the intervention type of dried plums, significantly decreased TC levels in unhealthy subjects, according to subgroup analysis. The consumption of plums had a notably statistically significant effect on LDL levels when the intervention type was dried plum and unhealthy subjects were enrolled. Background: Diabetes is prone to be known as the life-long disease that affects the way human bodies handle glucose. This study was conducted to assess relationship between HbA1c and lipid profile seen in Indian Type 2 Diabetes mellitus patients attending tertiary hospital. Material & methods: Necessary demographic, clinical and laboratory parameters were collected as in a preformed questionnaire. All these parameters were analyzed. Data was analyzed with Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSSTM) software version 16. A p value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Majority of patients have a high HbA1c level (79%) whereas the rest have the level within the target value (21%). Majority of the patients had high level of triglyceride i.e. 90%. 64% participants had a low level of HDL which is below 40 mg/dl.. 91% of patients had a high level of LDL. It was found that there was a correlation between high total cholesterol level with high level of HbA1c. There was an also significant correlation between high level of triglyceride and low level of HDL with high level of HbA1c. There was very slight weak significant correlation found between high level of LDL and high level of HbA1c. Conclusion: The study concluded that there was a correlation between lipid profile and HbA1c in patients with T2DM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dyslipidemia is linked to various health complications, including cardiovascular disease and inflammation. This study aimed to assess the association between smoking and lipid profile in the Tabari cohort population. Data from the Tabari Cohort Study involving 4,149 men were analyzed. A standardized questionnaire collected smoking history, while blood samples measured lipid levels and anthropometric measurements were recorded. Statistical analysis utilized chi-square tests and logistic regression, adjusting for potential confounders. The prevalence of smoking was 893 (21.52%; urban: 20.6%, mountainous: 23.8%, significant level:.024). The adjusted odds ratio (OR) of low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) among smokers 1.48 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.25–1.77, p <.001) was the same as non-smokers. The adjusted OR of high low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in men with 1 to 10, 11 to 20, and more than 20 cigarettes per day was 0.95 (95% CI: 0.73–1.25), 1.30 (95% CI: 0.99–1.71), and 2.64 (95% CI: 1.32–5.27) and low HDL was equal to 1.34 (95% CI: 1.06–1.68), 1.61 (95% CI: 1.26–2.05), and 2.24 (95% CI: 1.13–4.42) compared with non-smokers, respectively. The study findings indicate that smoking is associated with lower HDL levels, even after adjusting for potential confounders. The odds of low HDL and high LDL increases with higher smoking intensity. The low HDL and high LDL levels in individuals smoking over 20 cigarettes/day, respectively, show a 2.24-fold and a 2.64-fold increased odds compared to non-smokers. Background: Considering the conflicting effects of bupropion on parameters related to metabolic syndrome including glucose metabolism and lipid profile, in this meta‐analysis study, we investigated the effects of this drug alone or in combination with naltrexone on glucose metabolism and lipid profile. Methods: Scopus, PubMed/Medline, Web of Science and Embase databases were searched using standard keywords to identify all controlled trials investigating effects of bupropion alone and combined with naltrexone on the glucose and lipid profile. Pooled weighted mean difference and 95% confidence intervals were achieved by random‐effects model. Results: Twelve studies with 5152 participants' were included in this article. The pooled findings showed that bupropion alone or in combination with naltrexone would significantly reduce glucose (weighted mean difference (WMD): −2.25 mg/dL, 95% confidence interval (CI): −4.10, −0.40), insulin (WMD: −4.06 μU/mL, 95% CI: −6.09, −2.03), homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA‐IR) (WMD: −0.58, 95% CI: −0.98, −0.19), triglyceride (TG) (WMD: −11.78 mg/dL, 95% CI: −14.48 to −9.08) and increase high‐density lipoprotein (HDL) (WMD: 2.68 mg/dL, 95% CI: 2.13 to 3.24). A Greater reduction in glucose levels was observed with duration >26 weeks. Dose of bupropion intake ≤360 mg and intervention for more than 26 weeks decreased insulin level significantly. With regard to lipid profile, reduction of triglycerides is more significant with dose of bupropion greater than 360 mg and a shorter intervention length equal to 26 weeks. Conclusions: The addition of combination therapies such as bupropion and naltrexone to lifestyle modification can significantly improve glucose metabolism and some lipid parameters. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and effect on lipid profiles of Ainuovirine (ANV)- and efavirenz (EFV) -based regimens in treatment-naïve people living with HIV-1 (PLWH) at week 24. The proportion of PLWH achieving HIV-1 RNA < the limit of quantification in the ANV group was significantly higher than that in the EFV group (89.18% vs. 76.04%, P = 0.002). The mean change of log10 HIV-1 RNA from baseline was greater (-4.34 vs. -4.18, P < 0.001), the median change from baseline in CD4+ T cell count increased more (106.00 cells/µL vs. 92.00 cells/µL, P = 0.007) in the ANV group, while the CD4+/CD8+ ratio was similar (0.15 vs. 0.20, P = 0.167) between the two groups. The mean changes from baseline in total cholesterol (-0.02 for ANV vs. 0.25 mmol/L for EFV, P < 0.001), triglyceride (-0.14 for ANV vs. 0.11 mmol/L for EFV, P = 0.024), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (-0.07 for ANV vs. 0.15 mmol/L for EFV, P < 0.001) was significantly different between the two groups. The percentage of patients with improved lipid profiles was significantly higher in the ANV group (37.44 %) than in the EFV group (29.55%, P = 0.0495). The incidence of any adverse events in the ANV group was significantly lower than that in the EFV group at week 12 (6.2% vs. 30.7%, P < 0.001) and was comparable at week 24 (3.6% vs. 5.5%, P = 0.28). The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the effects of almond consumption on the lipid profiles of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. Eligible trials were searched from four electronic databases until Jan 2020. Five eligible articles were included in the final quantitative analysis. Overall, meta-analysis could not show any beneficial effect of almond consumption on total cholesterol (TC) weighted mean difference (WMD: 0.65 mg/dL, 95% CI: −7.52–8.82, p =.87), triglyceride (TG; WMD: 1.59 mg/dL, 95% CI: −21.77–24.96, p =.89), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C; WMD: −5.40 mg/dL, 95% CI: −13.30–2.50, p =.18), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C; WMD: 1.57 mg/dL, 95% CI: −0.95–4.10, p =.22). However, subgroup analyses showed that serum LDL-C levels were significantly reduced in trials administered > 50 g/d almond. Research into the effects of raspberry on blood pressure and lipid profiles is inconclusive. This meta‐analysis was aimed to determine whether raspberry has beneficial effects in clinical practice and to what extent these effects are associated with blood pressure and lipid profiles. A systematic literature search up to September 2023 was completed in PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science, to identify eligible RCTs. Heterogeneity tests of the selected trials were performed using the I2 statistic. Random effects models were evaluated based on the heterogeneity tests, and pooled data were determined as weighted mean differences with a 95% confidence interval. Eleven randomized controlled trials (with 13 arms) were eligible for this meta‐analysis. Our findings revealed that Raspberry consumption had no significant effects on the blood pressure and lipid profile markers, including systolic blood pressure (SBP) (WMD, −0.37 mm Hg; 95%CI: −2.19 to 1.44; p =.68), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (WMD, −2.14 mm Hg; 95%CI: −4.27 to 0.00; p =.05), total cholesterol (TC) (WMD, −6.83 mg/dL; 95%CI: −15.11 to 1.44; p =.10), triglycerides (TG) (WMD, −5.19 mg/dL: 95%CI: −11.76 to 1.37; p =.12), low‐density lipoprotein‐cholesterol (LDL‐C) (WMD, −5.19 mg/dL; 95%CI: −11.58 to 1.18; p =.11), and high‐density lipoprotein‐cholesterol (HDL‐C) (WMD, 0.82 mg/dL; 95%CI: −1.67 to 3.32; p =.51), compared to control groups. Subgroup analysis showed that raspberry consumption significantly decreased total cholesterol and LDL‐C levels in people with elevated TC levels, metabolic syndrome, and andropause symptoms, as well as those older than 35, while the consumption of raspberries led to a significant increase in HDL‐C levels in females, obese, under 35, and healthy individuals. Raspberry can improve lipid profile and blood pressure, but it is important to keep in mind that further research is necessary to fully understand the exact mechanism of action and a definite conclusion in this regard. Postmenopausal women are prone to develop cardiovascular disorders. In addition, cardiovascular risk in women can be influenced by the long-term prescription of drugs that lead to estrogen deprivation, e.g., aromatase inhibitors, and that can cause dyslipidemia. Little is known about the impact of exemestane, an aromatase inhibitor, on serum lipids' concentration in women. Hence, we conducted a meta -analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to assess the influence of this pharmacological agent on the lipid profile in women. The Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed/Medline and EMBASE databases were searched by two surveyors for manuscripts published from the inception of these databases until April 3rd, 2023. No language restrictions were applied to the search. The random effects model was used to generate the combined results as weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). In total, 8 eligible RCTs were included in the meta -analysis. Overall results from the random effects model indicate that exemestane administration increases LDL-C (WMD: 4.42 mg/dL, 95 % CI: 0.44, 8.41, P = 0.02) and decreases HDL-C (WMD: −6.03 mg/dL, 95 % CI: −7.77, −4.29, P < 0.001) and TC (WMD: −5.40 mg/dL, 95 % CI: −9.95, −0.86, P = 0.02) levels, respectively. Moreover, exemestane prescription only lowered TG concentrations when it was administered for < 12 months (WMD: −14.60 mg/dL, 95 % CI: –23.57 to −5.62, P = 0.001). Currently available evidence suggests that the administration of exemestane in females increases LDL-C values and reduces HDL-C, TC, and, when prescribed for less than 12 months, TG concentrations. Apremilast, a phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor, has shown promise to have a potential beneficial metabolic effect. We conducted a single-centre retrospective study on adult patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis who underwent apremilast treatment over at least 12 and 52 weeks, respectively. Baseline characteristics, weight, lipid profile, and fasting glucose levels were collected at baseline and at 12, 24, and 52 weeks. Furthermore, we conducted a narrative review of the current scientific knowledge on the metabolic effects of apremilast in patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. We observed a significant reduction in average weight and body mass index (BMI) in patients treated with apremilast in both the initial and the subgroup analysis, a significant reduction in triglycerides levels at 24 and 52 weeks, and a significant increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels at 52 weeks, whereas there were no significant changes in total cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein (LDL) concentrations over the 52-week treatment period. These findings suggest a potential positive impact of apremilast on both weight management and lipid profile in individuals with moderate-to-severe psoriasis in the medium–long term. To investigate the effect of the restoring effects of allicin (diallylthiosulfinate, DADS) on the altered lipid profile, osmotic fragility and membrane-bound enzymes in 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) – induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis. 1 week after receiving DADS (20 mg/kg body weight) orally, the buccal pouches of hamsters were painted daily with 0.5% DMBA in liquid paraffin for 14 weeks. The experiment was terminated at the end of 16 weeks. The restoring effects of DADS were evaluated by measuring the lipid profile, osmotic fragility and membrane-bound enzymes were analyzed by using specific colorimetric methods. The modified levels of lipid profiles (total cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, HDL, LDL and VLDL) in plasma, RBC-membrane and buccal mucosa tissues in DMBA-administered hamsters were normalized in DADS-treated animals. We observed an altered activity of erythrocyte membrane-bound enzyme (Na+ K+ -ATPase) and disturbed extracellular Na+ and intracellular K+ cation in the plasma tumor bearing animals, which suggests that the membrane permeability is affected during DMBA-induced oral carcinogenesis. The membrane stabilizing effects of DADS were confirmed by erythrocytes’ osmotic fragility and the levels of sodium, potassium and the activity of Na+ K+ -ATPase were restored in DMBA-treated animals after treatment with the DADS. Increased erythrocyte fragility and permeability in cancer animals are probably due to their altered lipids, osmotic fragility and membrane-bound enzymes. Oral administration of DADS to cancer animals prevented the alterations in red cell fragility and the activity of membrane-bound Na+ K+ -ATPase, which indicates the role of DADS in maintaining the structural integrity of erythrocytes during carcinogenesis. Introduction: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the major leading cause of mortality in men and women around the globe. The incidence of CVD increases with age in both the sexes, whereas it has been noted that there is a marked increase in risk among women after menopause. The hormonal changes associated with the menopause like low level of plasma estrogen and marked increase in follicle stimulating hormone levels exert a significant effect on metabolism of plasma lipids and lipoproteins leading to atherosclerosis, thereby increasing the risk of CVD in postmenopausal women. Objectives: To study the lipid profile parameters and to calculate and compare the lipid indices with lipid profile parameters in pre- and postmenopausal women. Materials and methods: The study group included 90 women comprising 45 postmenopausal (cases) and 45 premenopausal (control) women. To estimate lipid profile, enzymatic method was used and for calculation of lipid indices appropriate formula was used. Results: Altered lipid profile was observed in postmenopausal women, but it was not statistically significant. Atherogenic Index of Plasma, Castelli's risk index-I, atherogenic coefficient, and nonhigh-density lipoprotein cholesterol were significantly increased in postmenopausal women compared with premenopausal women, but there was no significant increase in Castelli's risk index-II. Introduction: The most frequent endocrinopathy affecting women in their reproductive years is PCOS, which affects 5% to 10% of them. PCOS was initially reported by Stein and Leventhal in 1935. Aims: To assess lipid profile in premenopausal women with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Materials and method: It's a hospital based, cross-sectional study. The study was conducted in Eden Hospital, Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata over a period from March 2019 to March 2020. A total of 71 samples have been included in this study. Result: The patients' mean low density lipoprotein (mg/dl) in the control group was 77.0000± 9.0277. The mean low density lipoprotein (mg/dl) of patients in the PCOS group was 141.4080± 36.4961.The difference between the two groups' mean low density lipoprotein (mg/dl) was statistically significant (p<0.0001). Additionally, the patients' mean high density lipoprotein (mg/dl) in the control group was 80.3333± 18.7466. Patients in the PCOS group had an average high density lipoprotein of 40.2084± 6.3429 mg/dl. The mean high density lipoprotein (mg/dl) varied significantly between the two groups (p<0.0001). Conclusion: Our study concludes that anthropometric parameters (weight, BMI, waist circumference) and lipid profile have significant correlation with premenopausal patients with PCOS. Background: Acne vulgaris is a common disorder of pilosebaceous units affecting adolescents and young adults. The various causes include diet, stress, seborrhea, and premenstrual flare. Objective: The objective of this study was to compare lipid profile, insulin, and adiponectin levels in acne and controls. Materials and Methods: Sixty patients of acne from the age group of 12 to 25 years and 20 healthy age- and gender-matched controls were included in the study. Results: Patients with acne showed significantly higher levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), higher levels (although not statistically significant) of triglyceride, and very LDL and significantly lower levels of high-density lipoprotein as compared to controls. Furthermore, individuals with acne had significantly lower levels of serum adiponectin and significantly higher mean levels of fasting serum insulin as compared to controls. Conclusion: Derangements in serum lipid profile, serum insulin, and serum adiponectin levels can predispose to acne in adolescent individuals. Burn survivors experience profound physiological changes following injury, which may have lasting implications for cardiovascular health. This study aims to investigate the cardiovascular risk profile among burn survivors treated at a burn center in northern Iran. This observational study was conducted from 2022 to 2023 at the burn centre affiliated with Guilan University of Medical Sciences, Rasht, Iran. This study assessed a cohort study of 210 burn survivors, focusing on individuals with ≥20% TBSA burn injuries who had recovered and returned to their daily lives. This study assessed patients' lipid profiles, Framingham General Cardiovascular Risk Score (FGCRS) and risk factors, including demographics, clinical variables and physical activity. Statistical analysis employed descriptive and inferential statistics. The mean age was 49.23 years, and the mean TBSA burned was 37.06%. The risk of cardiovascular disease in 66% of the study population was less than 10%, and in 13%, it was more than 20%. Significant associations were identified between CVD risk and sex, diabetes, hypertension, BMI, TBSA burned, years after burn, physical activity level and LDL. Of the lipid profile measures, LDL, triglycerides and TC/HDL exceeded the desirable levels. This research highlights the heightened cardiovascular risk in burn survivors, emphasizing the necessity for targeted interventions and regular monitoring. Identifying modifiable risk factors enables healthcare practitioners to develop tailored strategies, enhancing cardiovascular health in this vulnerable population and improving overall outcomes and quality of life. Background Specific components of lipid profile seem to differently impact on immune activity against cancer and unraveling their prognostic role in patients with solid cancer treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) is needed. Materials and Methods We retrospectively collected baseline clinicopathological characteristics including circulating lipid profile (total cholesterol [TC], triglycerides [TG], low-density lipoproteins [LDL], high-density lipoproteins [HDL]) of patients with consecutive solid cancer treated with ICIs, and we investigated their role in predicting clinical outcomes. Results At a median follow-up of 32.9 months, among 430 enrolled patients, those with TC ≥ 200 mg/dl showed longer median progression-free survival (mPFS; 6.6 vs. 4.7 months, P  = .4), although not reaching statistical significance, and significantly longer median overall survival (mOS; 19.4 vs. 10.8 months, P  = .02) compared to those with TC < 200 mg/dl. Conversely, patients with TG ≥150 mg/dl displayed shorter PFS (3.4 vs. 5.1 months, P  = .02) and OS (7.1 vs. 12.9 months, P  = .009) compared to those with TG <150 mg/dl. TC and TG were then combined in a "LIPID score" identifying three subgroups: good-risk (GR) (TC ≥200 mg/dl and TG <150 mg/dl), intermediate-risk (IR) (TC <200 mg/dl and TG <150 mg/dl or TC ≥200 mg/dl and TG ≥150 mg/dl) and poor-risk (PR) (TC <200 mg/dl and TG ≥150 mg/dl). The mPFS of GR, IR, and PR groups was 7.8, 4.3, and 2.5 months, respectively (P  = .005); mOS of GR, IR, and PR was 20.4, 12.4, and 5.3 months, respectively (P  < .001). At multivariable analysis, the PR profile represented an independent poor prognostic factor for both PFS and OS. Conclusions We developed a lipid score that defined subgroups of patients with cancer who differently benefit from ICIs. This meta-analysis of randomised clinical trials aimed to compare the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and its different protocols versus moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) and/or control on total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, HbA1c levels, and fasting glucose in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The search strategy was performed in PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane CENTRAL, EMBASE, Web of Science, Sport DISCUS, and PEDro, until January 2023. A total of 31 studies (1092 individuals) were included. When compared to control, HIIT decreased total cholesterol by −0.31 mmol/L (95% CI −0.49; −0.12), LDL by −0.31 mmol/L (95% CI −0.49; −0.12), triglycerides by −0.27 mmol/L (95% CI −0.33; −0.2), HbA1c by −0.75% (95% CI −0.97; −0.53), fasting glucose by −1.15 mmol/L (95% CI −1.44; −0.86), and increased HDL by 0.24 mmol/L (95% CI 0.06; 0.42). No difference was found in the comparison between HIIT versus MICT for any of the outcomes analysed, however subgroup analysis showed that a moderate-interval (>30s to < 2 min) and moderate-term (>4 to < 12 weeks) HIIT protocol reduced total cholesterol, when compared to MICT. Context Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Low-calorie, low-fat therapeutic diets (TDs) developed by the US National Cholesterol Education Program, ie, the Step I and II diets and the therapeutic lifestyle changes diet, are approximately similar and are the initial therapeutic interventional approaches for lifestyle modification. Objective This systematic review with meta-analysis was undertaken to evaluate the effects of TDs diet on blood lipids, apolipoprotein A-1, apolipoprotein B, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, and insulin. Data Sources A comprehensive search of the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases until October 2022 was performed to identify clinical trials investigating the effects of TDs on the aforementioned parameters. Data Extraction One investigator screened the records and extracted data, and another reviewed the extracted data. Data Analysis A total of 910 records were retrieved. After records were screened for eligibility, 34 clinical trials met the inclusion criteria. The pooled analysis from the random-effects model revealed a significant reduction in total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, apolipoprotein A-1, and apolipoprotein B in the TD intervention group vs the control group. The overall effects of TDs on fasting blood glucose, insulin, and blood pressure were not significant, but the results of subgroup analysis revealed a significant reduction in fasting blood glucose with the Step II diet and an intervention duration of more than 24 weeks. For blood pressure, the Step I diet and an intervention duration of more than 24 weeks resulted in significant reduction. There was no evidence of publication bias, but strong heterogeneity was observed. Conclusion Therapeutic diets have promising effects on lipid profile parameters, glycemic indexes, and blood pressure, which can promote cardiovascular health. Cardiovascular disease is prevalent globally and is the most common complication of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Previous studies have suggested that curcumin and probiotics may improve the lipid profile, so we aimed to investigate the effects of the edible powder enriched with these substances on lipid profile level and atherogenic indices such as Atherogenic Coefficient (AC), Castelli Risk Index‐I (CRI‐I), Castelli Risk Index‐II (CRI‐II), and Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP). In the present parallel randomized double‐blinded placebo‐controlled clinical trial, 124 people with MetS with overweight or obesity were randomly allocated to 4 groups and were followed up for 8 weeks. The participants received a low‐calorie diet and a daily sachet of enriched powder drink. The sachets contained either 109 CFU of probiotics or 1 g of curcumin, or probiotic + curcumin (pro + cur), or placebo, respectively. The fasting lipid profile and atherogenic indices were measured at the beginning and end of the study. One hundred and fourteen participants completed the study. At the end of the study, the within‐ and between‐group comparisons showed no significant differences in lipid profile and atherogenic indices (p >.05). Based on the results of the current study, taking an oral powder containing 1 g curcumin and 109 CFU probiotics for 8 weeks had no effect on the lipid profile level and atherogenic indices; however, more studies are recommended. Purpose: Previous research indicates that vitamin D and omega-3 co-supplementation may benefit overall health, but current evidence regarding its effects on lipid profile remains unclear. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the effects of vitamin D and omega-3 co-supplementation on lipid profile (total cholesterol [TC], low-density lipoprotein [LDL], triglyceride [TG] and high-density lipoprotein [HDL]) in adults. Design/methodology/approach: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, relevant studies were obtained by searching the PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases (from inception to January 2022). Weighted mean differences and 95% confidence intervals were estimated via a random-effects model. Heterogeneity, sensitivity analysis and publication bias were reported using standard methods. Findings: Pooled analysis of six randomized controlled trials (RCTs) revealed that vitamin D and omega-3 co-supplementation yielded significant reductions in TG (p = 0.631). A pooled analysis of five trials indicated a significant association between omega-3 and vitamin D treatment and reductions in TC (p = 0.001) and LDL (p = 0.001). Although, pooled analyses of omega-3 and vitamin D did not significantly affect HDL. Originality/value: The findings suggest that vitamin D and omega-3 co-supplementation lowers TG, TC and LDL in adults. Future, large-scale, RCTs on various populations are needed to elucidate further beneficial effects of vitamin D and omega-3 co-supplementation on lipid profile and establish guidelines for clinical practice. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a frequent disorder that affects reproductive-aged women and has reproductive, metabolic, and psychosocial effects. This research was intended to investigate the comparison between food intake and adipose tissue distribution in Saudi women suffering from PCOS and a control group. To determine the sociodemographic variables, a case–control study was performed with patients from King Fahad Medical City's Reproductive Endocrine and Infertility Medicine Department (REIMD). The case–control study comprised 42 PCOS patients (PCOS-Ps) and 63 as a control group, all aged 20–45 years. Three-day records were collected from participants to estimate the nutrient intake of cases and controls. A body composition analyzer was used to measure body mass index (BMI), body fat (BF), and visceral fat (VF). Biochemical measurements were taken to determine the lipid profile, total testosterone, and serum vitamin D-25-OH. The women's frequency distribution based on sociodemographic characteristics revealed significant differences within and between the groups. The variations in dietary intake between the PCOS-P and control groups were primarily in terms of total calories, carbohydrates, niacin, and folate, all of which were significantly higher in the PCOS-P group. Dietary fiber, unsaturated fat, vitamin A, vitamin B12, calcium, phosphorus, and selenium, on the other hand, were significantly higher in the control group. A majority of both groups had significantly higher BMI (overweight or obese) and higher BF, but normal VF. According to the findings, testosterone levels in PCOS-Ps were significantly higher than in the control group, but vitamin D-25-OH and high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were significantly lower. Age, monthly income, cholesterol, low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and testosterone were the fundamental causes impacting women's anthropometric indices. In conclusion, although both groups were overweight or obese, and differences in calorie and nutrient intake, HDL-C, testosterone, and vitamin D-25-OH levels were observed. We assessed whether the impact of cabotegravir plus rilpivirine on inflammation reduction differs from that of oral antiretrovirals, using real-world data. Inflammatory biomarkers and lipid profiles were followed from baseline to 8 months after switching. Seventy-eight participants were analyzed. The CD4/CD8 ratio and C-reactive protein did not change. There were transient decreases in CD8 and CD4 counts in the group that switched from the dolutegravir-based regimen, but not in the tenofovir alafenamide-based regimen group. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol increased, resulting in a decrease in the total-cholesterol to HDL cholesterol ratio, whereas there was no significant change in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. OBJECTIVE Lung cancer (LC) is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Multiple studies have shown tumor progression and prognosis to be associated with immune status and nutritional condition. Alterations in blood lipid levels have been demonstrated to be a risk factor for LC. In the present study, we evaluate the effect of blood parameters on brain metastasis in LC. METHODS Patients identified with brain metastases during diagnosis or therapy and who subsequently underwent radiation therapy were included in the study. Patient characteristics, laboratory parameters, pathologic subtype, disease stage, treatment modalities, and outcome following treatment were recorded, and the patients' PFS and OS were calculated. RESULTS Univariate analysis revealed neutrophil, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and C-reactive protein levels to be significantly different between groups according to brain metastases. In a subgroup analysis based on cancer subtypes, LDL and lymphocyte levels were found to be significantly different in squamous cancer, while LDL was different in the undifferentiated subtype. OS was different in the NLR low and high groups, favoring the NLR low group (p=0.015; OS: 12 vs. 9 months), and the monocyte/lymphocyte ratio was significant in terms of OS favoring the low group with a cutoff value of 0.56 (p=0.002; OS: 13 vs. 9 months). CONCLUSION Our study identified differences in the inflammatory and lipid profiles of LC patients in terms of brain metastases and survival. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in women that is characterized by fluid-filled sacs in the ovaries and various symptoms, including high androgen levels, endometrial irregularities, and cysts. Although the main cause of PCOS remains unknown, it has been linked to genetic, endocrine, and metabolic factors, and there are several treatment options, including lifestyle modifications, medications, and surgery. Natural products such as medicinal plants and fruits are being explored as potential treatments for PCOS because of their bioactive compounds with pharmacological effects related to antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer, and antidiabetic properties. Some of these compounds improve insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, and enhance glucose metabolism, thereby benefiting patients with PCOS. This mini-review examined the effects of natural products on PCOS, including their effects on ovarian histological changes, blood glucose, sex hormones, and lipid profiles, based on animal and human studies. This study suggests that the use of natural products as complementary medicines can be a promising resource for the development of effective therapeutics for PCOS; however, further research is needed to fully understand their benefits. Background: The Healthy Eating Index (HEI) and Alternate Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) are instruments developed by competing American research teams, aiming to assess the level of adherence to a dietary pattern, claimed to prevent chronic illness conditions such as dyslipidemia. This systematic review evaluated cross-sectional studies examining the association between HEI/AHEI score and the lipid profile in healthy participants. Methods: The systematic review was Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) compliant, and a search process was conducted through Scopus, Web of Knowledge, Google Scholar, Cochrane, PubMed, and ScienceDirect up to November 2022. Studies assessing the relationship between HEI/AHEI and lipid profile (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglyceride (TG)) were eligible for inclusion. The statistical differences in outcomes, anthropometric indices, and demographic data were extracted from the selected studies. Also, the quality assessment of studies was performed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Results: The systematic search presented 17 cross-sectional studies. Most of the studies revealed a significant correlation between HEI score and lipid profile (LDL-C, HDL-C, TG, and TC) (P < 0.05), while a few of them indicated a significant relationship between AHEI score and these factors. Overall, the elevation of HEI/AHEI score was associated with the improvement in lipid profile (P < 0.05), though this association was more obvious for HEI compared with AHEI. Conclusions: Overall, the results of the study indicated that an improved lipid profile in healthy individuals is associated with a higher score in either HEI or AHEI. The lipid profiles of the oyster Crassostrea gigas cultured in Khanh Hoa coast at three locations and harvested in different months throughout the year were compared. Seasonal and locational changes in total lipid (TL) content, phospholipid content, free fatty acid content, fatty acid (FA) composition, and thrombogenicity index were found. The total lipid content and n-3/n-6 ratio in oysters from Ninh Hoa were higher compared to those from Cam Lam and Van Ninh. For oyster from all three farming areas, the total lipid content was the lowest during the two spawning seasons (May and September). Lipids from C. gigas were separated into neutral and polar lipid fractions using silica gel column chromatography. The amount of neutral lipids recovered from the oyster muscle was significantly higher than that of the polar lipids. The FA composition showed that C. gigas was abundant in saturated fatty acids (30.89-39.16 g/100 g TL), followed by polyunsaturated fatty acids (28.13-35.88 g/100 g TL), and monounsaturated fatty acids (19.32-23.75 g/100 g TL). The dominant polyunsaturated fatty acids of oysters from the three farming areas were eicosapentaenoic acid (9.09-13.77 g/100 g TL) and docosahexaenoic acid (6.71-16.47 g/100 g TL). Based on the present findings, it can be concluded that the Pacific oyster C. gigas cultured in Khanh Hoa, Vietnam is a promising source of highly nutritious exploitable lipids. In the present study, the effects of recycled oxidized coconut oil were assessed on hematobiochemical, antioxidant and cardiac markers in albino mice. In all, 24 mice were divided into three groups: group I, II, and III; animals in each group received a normal diet as well as fresh and deep-oxidized coconut oil. The outcomes demonstrated that group III mice fed with thermally oxidized coconut oil revealed a significant alteration in the form of decreased levels of alkaline phosphatase, alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, total white blood corpuscle, platelet count, hemoglobin (Hb), Hb concentration, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, and hematocrit (HCT) (p > 0.05). Likewise, levels of triglyceride, cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein in group III were high, while level of high-density lipoprotein was weakened. Moreover, it was observed that administration of oxidized coconut oil (group III) caused significant changes in the levels of creatinine, uric acid, serum urea, total proteins, globulin, albumin, blood urea nitrogen, and serum glucose as well as concentrations of serum electrolytes, such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium. This study also showed that group III mice had low levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and radical scavenging capacity and high levels of thiobarbituric reactive substances. However, animals in group II, fed with diet of fresh coconut oil, showed normal levels of all the above-mentioned hematobiochemical, antioxidant, and lipid markers, compared to control mice (group I) and group-III animals. The histological findings of the liver and heart further confirmed the findings of the current investigation, that is, deep-oxidized coconut oil has negative consequences and ought to be avoided. Aims and background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the most common mental health disorder. It is a multifactorial disease and the pathophysiology is not clear, which results in fewer available options for treatment and more treatment-resistant cases. The development of early diagnostic and prognostic markers will help in the reduction of the burden of this disease. Oxidative stress plays an important role in depression and it is evident that antioxidant effects are exerted by many treatment modalities available for depression. Lipids have a role in inter- and intraneuronal functions of the brain, they can also be developed as markers for MDD. Materials and methods: In this study, we compared serum antioxidant status and serum lipid profile in MDD patients and healthy controls. A total of 30 MDD patients and 30 healthy controls were included in the study. Serum antioxidant level and serum lipid profile were done using a kit-based method on an autoanalyzer. Results: The level of antioxidants [mean ± standard deviation (SD)] in controls was 1.332 ± 0.215 mmol/L and in MDD patients was 1.399 ± 0.298 mmol/L, the difference was not significant. The level of total cholesterol in controls was 169.203 ± 31.114 mg/dL and in MDD patients was 193.080 ± 38.876 mg/dL, the difference was statistically significant (p = 0.011). The difference in low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and triglycerides (TG) levels was insignificant between healthy controls and MDD patients. Conclusion: Mixed findings from our study and the various literature suggest that there is a complex association between MDD, antioxidants, and lipid profile, and extensive study is needed in the field. Background: Stroke is a global health problem. It is the leading cause of adult disability and the second leading cause of mortality worldwide. Mortality from strokes is the second leading cause worldwide. About 15 million people suffer from non-fatal strokes leading to disability in about a third of patients. Methodology: The present descriptive observational study was carried out in Medicine OPD and IPD at Navodaya medical College, Raichur from June 2023 to December 2023 involving 50 diagnosed cases of stroke of both sex. Results: Mean age of the study population was 63.47±10.21 years. Males were predominant in our study with male to female ratio of 2.03:1. Mean total cholesterol in diabetic patients was 205.23±33.31 and in non-diabetic patient was 146.05±17.21 (p<0.01). Mean VLDL in diabetic patients was 33.15±7.62 and in non-diabetic patient was 29.10±5.11 (p<0.01). Mean LDL in diabetic patients was 116.71±38.23 and in non-diabetic patient was 75.25±16.17 (p<0.01). Conclusion: Mean values of lipid parameters like total cholesterol, LDL and VLDL were significantly elevated in diabetic stroke as compared to non-diabetic stroke patients in our study (p<0.05). Background: Growing evidence shows the undisputable role of non-HDL-C and remnant cholesterol (remnant-C) in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk assessment and treatment. However, the reference interval (RI) for these lipid parameters is not readily available. The aim of the present investigation was to determine the age and sex-specific RIs for non-HDL-C and remnant-C as well as other lipid parameters among a healthy population in southern Iran. We also report the RI of lipid parameters in rural and urban residents, smokers and post-menopausal women. Methods: Among 14 063 participants of Bandare Kong and Fasa cohort studies, 792 healthy subjects (205 men and 578 women) aged 35-70 years were selected. Fasting blood samples were used for determination of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG) and HDL-C using colorimetric methods. Non-HDL-C and remnant-C were calculated using the valid formula. The 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles were calculated and considered as RI. Results: In the total population (n = 792, age 35-70), RIs for non-HDL-C and remnant-C was 74.0-206.8 and 8.0-52.7 mg/dL, respectively. Age (35-44 and ≥ 45 years) and gender-specific RIs for serum non-HDL-C and remnant-C were determined. Remnant-C and non-HDL-C level were different between sex and age categories. The mean value of all lipid parameters except HDL-C was higher in men, urban residents, subject with age ≥ 45 years and smokers. Conclusion: This is the first study in which the RIs for non-HDL-C and remnant-C in southern Iran are reported. Introduction: Myonectin is a key player in mediating lipid and glucose metabolism, and exercise training positively influences it by upregulating this myokine. However, the impact of different exercise regimens on myonectin levels is not well understood. This study aims to investigate the effects of three weeks of circuit resistance training on serum myonectin levels and lipid profiles in young men. Material & Methods: Twenty sedentary young males (average age: 23.6 ± 3.2 years) participated, randomly assigned to circuit resistance training (n=10) and control (n=10) groups. Circuit resistance training, comprising nine sessions over three weeks with nine exercises per session at 60% of one-repetition maximum (1RM), was conducted. The control group maintained their daily routine. Blood samples, collected 48 hours post-training, underwent serum myonectin and lipid profile analysis using specialized kits. SPSS software version 24, ANCOVA tests (p < 0.05), were used for data analysis. Results: The study revealed a significant increase in serum myonectin levels in the trained group compared to controls (p = 0.027). Additionally, the trained group exhibited a significant reduction in cholesterol and an increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels compared to controls (p < 0.05). Triglyceride and lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL) levels did not significantly change in the trained group compared to controls (p > 0.05). Conclusion: This study demonstrates that short-term circuit resistance training (three weeks) significantly improves the lipid profile in sedentary subjects. Radio frequency (RF) heating has been proved an alternative roasting method for peanuts, which could effectively degrade aflatoxins and possesses the advantages of greater heating efficiency and penetration depth. This study aimed to investigate the influences of RF roasting on the lipid profile of peanut oil under 150 °C target temperature with varied peanut moisture contents (8.29 % and 20 %) and holding times (0, 7.5, and 15 min), using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS)-based lipidomics. In total, 2587 lipid species from 35 subclasses were identified. After roasting, the contents of sterol lipid (ST) and subclasses of glycerophospholipids (GPs) and glycoglycerolipids increased significantly, while fatty acid (FA), Oxidized (Ox-) FA, cholesterol (CE), and all subclasses of glycerolipids (GLs) decreased, and 1084 differential lipids were screened. The highest ST and lowest CE contents in peanut oil were achieved by medium roasting (7.5 min). The raise in moisture content of peanut simply affected a few GPs subclasses adversely. Compared with hot air (HA) roasting, RF decelerated lipid oxidation, showing higher levels of diacylglycerol, triacylglycerol and FA, with no additional negative impact and only 69 exclusive differential lipids. During RF roasting, hydrolysis and oxidation of fatty acyl chains into secondary oxides were the central behaviors of lipids transformation. The effect of drying on the lipid profiles of the lean (LN) and fat (FT) portions of non-smoked bacon was investigated based on a lipidomic approach. The study identified 989 lipids belonging to 26 subclasses in bacon, with triglyceride and phosphatidylethanolamine being the most abundant. Triglycerides, phosphatidylcholines, and phosphatidylethanolamines were significantly decreased, whereas diglycerides, free fatty acids, and lysophospholipids were increased after drying. TG (16:1/18:1/18:2) and TG (16:0/18:1/18:1) were the primary lipids responsible for the binding of volatiles. Based on VIP > 1 and P < 0.05, 355 and 444 differential lipids were observed in the FT and LN portions, respectively. In total, 26 lipids were screened as key precursors for the production of key aroma compounds of bacon in the FT portion, while 127 were screened in the LN portion. PE (18:0/18:2) is believed to be the primary lipid molecule precursors responsible for the development of aroma in both lean and fat portions. The aim of the current study was to explore the changes in lipid and NT-proBNP levels in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients through different phases of the disease: from the pre-clinical stage and RA onset up to the treatment phase with biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDS). Thirty-eight consecutive patients, initially with arthralgia and rheumatoid factor and/or anti-citrullinated protein antibodies without arthritis, who later developed RA and eventually started treatment with bDMARDs, were included. Lipid spectrum and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels were measured longitudinally from several months before diagnosis through treatment with bDMARDs. From baseline, C-reactive protein (CPR) initially increased sharply, decreasing with the start of biological treatment. Low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c) remained stable, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-c) increased, apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1 and lipoprotein (a) (Lp(a)), and total cholesterol (TC)/HDL-c ratio and apolipoprotein B (ApoB) decreased during follow-up. NT-proBNP closely followed progression of CRP. TC, LDL-c, TC/HDL-c ratio, ApoA and ApoB inverse correlated with CRP, while Lp(a) positively correlated. HDL-c and triglycerides showed no correlation. Changes in the lipid profile and NT-proBNP in RA patients seem to be related to inflammation, with changes reflecting an increase in CVD risk occurring along with rises in CRP levels. Ruzu herbal bitters (RHB) is a polyherbal mixture produced in Nigeria indicated for diabetes and other ailments. The consumers of the product testify of its efficacy, but there are not much scientific information on RHB. The study determined the effect of RHB on the liver function and lipid profile parameters of alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Fifty-four adult albino rats were divided into nine groups of six rats each. Group 1 was the normal control, while groups 2–6 were diabetic. Group 2 was not treated, while groups 3–6 were respectively treated with 5 mg/kg b.w of glibenclamide, 0.14, 0.29, and 0.57 ml/kg b.w of RHB. Groups 7–9 were not diabetic but treated as groups 4–6. Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of freshly prepared alloxan into adult male albino Wister rats with a single dose of 120 mg/kg body weight. The blood sugar level, weight, liver function, and lipid profile of the rats were tested using standard methods. The results showed a significant (P < 0.05) increase in the blood glucose level and decrease in weight in the diabetic-untreated group compared to the normal group. The liver function and lipid profile tests showed significant (P <0.05) increases in the activities of gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST); increases in the levels of total bilirubin, total cholesterol (T.CHOL), triglycerides (TG), very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL); decreases in the levels of total protein, albumin and high-density lipoproteins (HDL), in the diabetic-untreated group compared to the normal group. However, treatment of the diabetic rats with different doses of RHB caused the reversal of these effects to near-normal levels in a dose-dependent manner.
